AutoVCoder: A Systematic Framework for Automated Verilog Code Generation using LLMsMingzhe Gao, Jieru Zhao, Zhe Lin et al.
Recently, the use of large language models (LLMs) for software code generation, e.g., C/C++ and Python, has proven a great success. However, LLMs still suffer from low syntactic and functional correctness when it comes to the generation of register-transfer level (RTL) code, such as Verilog. To address this issue, in this paper, we develop AutoVCoder, a systematic open-source framework that significantly improves the LLMs' correctness of generating Verilog code and enhances the quality of its output at the same time. Our framework integrates three novel techniques, including a high-quality hardware dataset generation approach, a two-round LLM fine-tuning method and a domain-specific retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) mechanism. Experimental results demonstrate that AutoVCoder outperforms both industrial and academic LLMs in Verilog code generation. Specifically, AutoVCoder shows a 0.5% and 2.2% improvement in functional correctness on the EvalMachine and EvalHuman benchmarks compared with BetterV, and also achieves a 3.4% increase in syntax correctness and a 3.4% increase in functional correctness on the RTLLM benchmark compared with RTLCoder.

Exploring Data Augmentations on Self-/Semi-/Fully- Supervised Pre-trained ModelsShentong Mo, Zhun Sun, Chao Li
Data augmentation has become a standard component of vision pre-trained models to capture the invariance between augmented views. In practice, augmentation techniques that mask regions of a sample with zero/mean values or patches from other samples are commonly employed in pre-trained models with self-/semi-/fully-supervised contrastive losses. However, the underlying mechanism behind the effectiveness of these augmentation techniques remains poorly explored. To investigate the problems, we conduct an empirical study to quantify how data augmentation affects performance. Concretely, we apply 4 types of data augmentations termed with Random Erasing, CutOut, CutMix and MixUp to a series of self-/semi-/fully- supervised pre-trained models. We report their performance on vision tasks such as image classification, object detection, instance segmentation, and semantic segmentation. We then explicitly evaluate the invariance and diversity of the feature embedding. We observe that: 1) Masking regions of the images decreases the invariance of the learned feature embedding while providing a more considerable diversity. 2) Manual annotations do not change the invariance or diversity of the learned feature embedding. 3) The MixUp approach improves the diversity significantly, with only a marginal decrease in terms of the invariance.
Augmentation-Free Dense Contrastive Knowledge Distillation for Efficient Semantic SegmentationJiawei Fan, Chao Li, Xiaolong Liu et al.
In recent years, knowledge distillation methods based on contrastive learning have achieved promising results on image classification and object detection tasks. However, in this line of research, we note that less attention is paid to semantic segmentation. Existing methods heavily rely on data augmentation and memory buffer, which entail high computational resource demands when applying them to handle semantic segmentation that requires to preserve high-resolution feature maps for making dense pixel-wise predictions. In order to address this problem, we present Augmentation-free Dense Contrastive Knowledge Distillation (Af-DCD), a new contrastive distillation learning paradigm to train compact and accurate deep neural networks for semantic segmentation applications. Af-DCD leverages a masked feature mimicking strategy, and formulates a novel contrastive learning loss via taking advantage of tactful feature partitions across both channel and spatial dimensions, allowing to effectively transfer dense and structured local knowledge learnt by the teacher model to a target student model while maintaining training efficiency. Extensive experiments on five mainstream benchmarks with various teacher-student network pairs demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. For instance, the DeepLabV3-Res18|DeepLabV3-MBV2 model trained by Af-DCD reaches 77.03%|76.38% mIOU on Cityscapes dataset when choosing DeepLabV3-Res101 as the teacher, setting new performance records. Besides that, Af-DCD achieves an absolute mIOU improvement of 3.26%|3.04%|2.75%|2.30%|1.42% compared with individually trained counterpart on Cityscapes|Pascal VOC|Camvid|ADE20K|COCO-Stuff-164K. HieraEdgeNet: A Multi-Scale Edge-Enhanced Framework for Automated Pollen RecognitionYuchong Long, Wen Sun, Ningxiao Sun et al.
Automated pollen recognition is vital to paleoclimatology, biodiversity monitoring, and public health, yet conventional methods are hampered by inefficiency and subjectivity. Existing deep learning models often struggle to achieve the requisite localization accuracy for microscopic targets like pollen, which are characterized by their minute size, indistinct edges, and complex backgrounds. To overcome this limitation, we introduce HieraEdgeNet, a multi-scale edge-enhancement framework. The framework's core innovation is the introduction of three synergistic modules: the Hierarchical Edge Module (HEM), which explicitly extracts a multi-scale pyramid of edge features that corresponds to the semantic hierarchy at early network stages; the Synergistic Edge Fusion (SEF) module, for deeply fusing these edge priors with semantic information at each respective scale; and the Cross Stage Partial Omni-Kernel Module (CSPOKM), which maximally refines the most detail-rich feature layers using an Omni-Kernel operator - comprising anisotropic large-kernel convolutions and mixed-domain attention - all within a computationally efficient Cross-Stage Partial (CSP) framework. On a large-scale dataset comprising 120 pollen classes, HieraEdgeNet achieves a mean Average Precision (mAP@.5) of 0.9501, significantly outperforming state-of-the-art baseline models such as YOLOv12n and RT-DETR. Furthermore, qualitative analysis confirms that our approach generates feature representations that are more precisely focused on object boundaries. By systematically integrating edge information, HieraEdgeNet provides a robust and powerful solution for high-precision, high-efficiency automated detection of microscopic objects.

TruNet: Short Videos Generation from Long Videos via Story-Preserving TruncationFan Yang, Xiao Liu, Dongliang He et al.
In this work, we introduce a new problem, named as {\em story-preserving long video truncation}, that requires an algorithm to automatically truncate a long-duration video into multiple short and attractive sub-videos with each one containing an unbroken story. This differs from traditional video highlight detection or video summarization problems in that each sub-video is required to maintain a coherent and integral story, which is becoming particularly important for resource-production video sharing platforms such as Youtube, Facebook, TikTok, Kwai, etc. To address the problem, we collect and annotate a new large video truncation dataset, named as TruNet, which contains 1470 videos with on average 11 short stories per video. With the new dataset, we further develop and train a neural architecture for video truncation that consists of two components: a Boundary Aware Network (BAN) and a Fast-Forward Long Short-Term Memory (FF-LSTM). We first use the BAN to generate high quality temporal proposals by jointly considering frame-level attractiveness and boundaryness. We then apply the FF-LSTM, which tends to capture high-order dependencies among a sequence of frames, to decide whether a temporal proposal is a coherent and integral story. We show that our proposed framework outperforms existing approaches for the story-preserving long video truncation problem in both quantitative measures and user-study. The dataset is available for public academic research usage at https://ai.baidu.com/broad/download.
Gated Convolutional Networks with Hybrid Connectivity for Image ClassificationChuanguang Yang, Zhulin An, Hui Zhu et al.
We propose a simple yet effective method to reduce the redundancy of DenseNet by substantially decreasing the number of stacked modules by replacing the original bottleneck by our SMG module, which is augmented by local residual. Furthermore, SMG module is equipped with an efficient two-stage pipeline, which aims to DenseNet-like architectures that need to integrate all previous outputs, i.e., squeezing the incoming informative but redundant features gradually by hierarchical convolutions as a hourglass shape and then exciting it by multi-kernel depthwise convolutions, the output of which would be compact and hold more informative multi-scale features. We further develop a forget and an update gate by introducing the popular attention modules to implement the effective fusion instead of a simple addition between reused and new features. Due to the Hybrid Connectivity (nested combination of global dense and local residual) and Gated mechanisms, we called our network as the HCGNet. Experimental results on CIFAR and ImageNet datasets show that HCGNet is more prominently efficient than DenseNet, and can also significantly outperform state-of-the-art networks with less complexity. Moreover, HCGNet also shows the remarkable interpretability and robustness by network dissection and adversarial defense, respectively. On MS-COCO, HCGNet can consistently learn better features than popular backbones.

High Performance Visual Tracking with Circular and Structural OperatorsPeng Gao, Yipeng Ma, Ke Song et al.
In this paper, a novel circular and structural operator tracker (CSOT) is proposed for high performance visual tracking, it not only possesses the powerful discriminative capability of SOSVM but also efficiently inherits the superior computational efficiency of DCF. Based on the proposed circular and structural operators, a set of primal confidence score maps can be obtained by circular correlating feature maps with their corresponding structural correlation filters. Furthermore, an implicit interpolation is applied to convert the multi-resolution feature maps to the continuous domain and make all primal confidence score maps have the same spatial resolution. Then, we exploit an efficient ensemble post-processor based on relative entropy, which can coalesce primal confidence score maps and create an optimal confidence score map for more accurate localization. The target is localized on the peak of the optimal confidence score map. Besides, we introduce a collaborative optimization strategy to update circular and structural operators by iteratively training structural correlation filters, which significantly reduces computational complexity and improves robustness. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach achieves state-of-the-art performance in mean AUC scores of 71.5% and 69.4% on the OTB-2013 and OTB-2015 benchmarks respectively, and obtains a third-best expected average overlap (EAO) score of 29.8% on the VOT-2017 benchmark.

AutoEncoder Inspired Unsupervised Feature SelectionKai Han, Yunhe Wang, Chao Zhang et al.
High-dimensional data in many areas such as computer vision and machine learning tasks brings in computational and analytical difficulty. Feature selection which selects a subset from observed features is a widely used approach for improving performance and effectiveness of machine learning models with high-dimensional data. In this paper, we propose a novel AutoEncoder Feature Selector (AEFS) for unsupervised feature selection which combines autoencoder regression and group lasso tasks. Compared to traditional feature selection methods, AEFS can select the most important features by excavating both linear and nonlinear information among features, which is more flexible than the conventional self-representation method for unsupervised feature selection with only linear assumptions. Experimental results on benchmark dataset show that the proposed method is superior to the state-of-the-art method.
