A Posteriori Error Estimation and Adaptive Algorithm for the Atomistic/Continuum Coupling in 2DHao Wang, Mingjie Liao, Ping Lin et al.
Atomistic/continuum coupling methods aim to achieve optimal balance between accuracy and efficiency. Adaptivity is the key for the efficient implementation of such methods. In this paper, we carry out a rigorous a posteriori analysis of the residual, the stability constant, and the error bound, for a consistent atomistic/continuum coupling method in 2D. We design and implement the corresponding adaptive mesh refinement algorithm, and the convergence rate with respect to degrees of freedom is optimal compare with a priori error estimates.

Quantum Langevin Dynamics for OptimizationZherui Chen, Yuchen Lu, Hao Wang et al.
We initiate the study of utilizing Quantum Langevin Dynamics (QLD) to solve optimization problems, particularly those non-convex objective functions that present substantial obstacles for traditional gradient descent algorithms. Specifically, we examine the dynamics of a system coupled with an infinite heat bath. This interaction induces both random quantum noise and a deterministic damping effect to the system, which nudge the system towards a steady state that hovers near the global minimum of objective functions. We theoretically prove the convergence of QLD in convex landscapes, demonstrating that the average energy of the system can approach zero in the low temperature limit with an exponential decay rate correlated with the evolution time. Numerically, we first show the energy dissipation capability of QLD by retracing its origins to spontaneous emission. Furthermore, we conduct detailed discussion of the impact of each parameter. Finally, based on the observations when comparing QLD with classical Fokker-Plank-Smoluchowski equation, we propose a time-dependent QLD by making temperature and $\hbar$ time-dependent parameters, which can be theoretically proven to converge better than the time-independent case and also outperforms a series of state-of-the-art quantum and classical optimization algorithms in many non-convex landscapes.

A Posteriori Error Estimates for Energy-Based Quasicontinuum Approximations of a Periodic ChainHao Wang
We present a posteriori error estimates for a recently developed atomistic/continuum coupling method, the Consistent Energy-Based QC Coupling method. The error estimate of the deformation gradient combines a residual estimate and an a posteriori stability analysis. The residual is decomposed into the residual due to the approximation of the stored energy and that due to the approximation of the external force, and are bounded in negative Sobolev norms. In addition, the error estimate of the total energy using the error estimate of the deformation gradient is also presented. Finally, numerical experiments are provided to illustrate our analysis.

Spectral Perturbation Meets Incomplete Multi-view DataHao Wang, Linlin Zong, Bing Liu et al.
Beyond existing multi-view clustering, this paper studies a more realistic clustering scenario, referred to as incomplete multi-view clustering, where a number of data instances are missing in certain views. To tackle this problem, we explore spectral perturbation theory. In this work, we show a strong link between perturbation risk bounds and incomplete multi-view clustering. That is, as the similarity matrix fed into spectral clustering is a quantity bounded in magnitude O(1), we transfer the missing problem from data to similarity and tailor a matrix completion method for incomplete similarity matrix. Moreover, we show that the minimization of perturbation risk bounds among different views maximizes the final fusion result across all views. This provides a solid fusion criteria for multi-view data. We motivate and propose a Perturbation-oriented Incomplete multi-view Clustering (PIC) method. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
