Exploring Object-Centric Temporal Modeling for Efficient Multi-View 3D Object DetectionShihao Wang, Yingfei Liu, Tiancai Wang et al.
In this paper, we propose a long-sequence modeling framework, named StreamPETR, for multi-view 3D object detection. Built upon the sparse query design in the PETR series, we systematically develop an object-centric temporal mechanism. The model is performed in an online manner and the long-term historical information is propagated through object queries frame by frame. Besides, we introduce a motion-aware layer normalization to model the movement of the objects. StreamPETR achieves significant performance improvements only with negligible computation cost, compared to the single-frame baseline. On the standard nuScenes benchmark, it is the first online multi-view method that achieves comparable performance (67.6% NDS & 65.3% AMOTA) with lidar-based methods. The lightweight version realizes 45.0% mAP and 31.7 FPS, outperforming the state-of-the-art method (SOLOFusion) by 2.3% mAP and 1.8x faster FPS. Far3D: Expanding the Horizon for Surround-view 3D Object DetectionXiaohui Jiang, Shuailin Li, Yingfei Liu et al.
Recently 3D object detection from surround-view images has made notable advancements with its low deployment cost. However, most works have primarily focused on close perception range while leaving long-range detection less explored. Expanding existing methods directly to cover long distances poses challenges such as heavy computation costs and unstable convergence. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a novel sparse query-based framework, dubbed Far3D. By utilizing high-quality 2D object priors, we generate 3D adaptive queries that complement the 3D global queries. To efficiently capture discriminative features across different views and scales for long-range objects, we introduce a perspective-aware aggregation module. Additionally, we propose a range-modulated 3D denoising approach to address query error propagation and mitigate convergence issues in long-range tasks. Significantly, Far3D demonstrates SoTA performance on the challenging Argoverse 2 dataset, covering a wide range of 150 meters, surpassing several LiDAR-based approaches. Meanwhile, Far3D exhibits superior performance compared to previous methods on the nuScenes dataset. The code is available at https://github.com/megvii-research/Far3D.

Focal-PETR: Embracing Foreground for Efficient Multi-Camera 3D Object DetectionShihao Wang, Xiaohui Jiang, Ying Li
The dominant multi-camera 3D detection paradigm is based on explicit 3D feature construction, which requires complicated indexing of local image-view features via 3D-to-2D projection. Other methods implicitly introduce geometric positional encoding and perform global attention (e.g., PETR) to build the relationship between image tokens and 3D objects. The 3D-to-2D perspective inconsistency and global attention lead to a weak correlation between foreground tokens and queries, resulting in slow convergence. We propose Focal-PETR with instance-guided supervision and spatial alignment module to adaptively focus object queries on discriminative foreground regions. Focal-PETR additionally introduces a down-sampling strategy to reduce the consumption of global attention. Due to the highly parallelized implementation and down-sampling strategy, our model, without depth supervision, achieves leading performance on the large-scale nuScenes benchmark and a superior speed of 30 FPS on a single RTX3090 GPU. Extensive experiments show that our method outperforms PETR while consuming 3x fewer training hours. The code will be made publicly available.
InsViE-1M: Effective Instruction-based Video Editing with Elaborate Dataset ConstructionYuhui Wu, Liyi Chen, Ruibin Li et al.
Instruction-based video editing allows effective and interactive editing of videos using only instructions without extra inputs such as masks or attributes. However, collecting high-quality training triplets (source video, edited video, instruction) is a challenging task. Existing datasets mostly consist of low-resolution, short duration, and limited amount of source videos with unsatisfactory editing quality, limiting the performance of trained editing models. In this work, we present a high-quality Instruction-based Video Editing dataset with 1M triplets, namely InsViE-1M. We first curate high-resolution and high-quality source videos and images, then design an effective editing-filtering pipeline to construct high-quality editing triplets for model training. For a source video, we generate multiple edited samples of its first frame with different intensities of classifier-free guidance, which are automatically filtered by GPT-4o with carefully crafted guidelines. The edited first frame is propagated to subsequent frames to produce the edited video, followed by another round of filtering for frame quality and motion evaluation. We also generate and filter a variety of video editing triplets from high-quality images. With the InsViE-1M dataset, we propose a multi-stage learning strategy to train our InsViE model, progressively enhancing its instruction following and editing ability. Extensive experiments demonstrate the advantages of our InsViE-1M dataset and the trained model over state-of-the-art works. L3TC: Leveraging RWKV for Learned Lossless Low-Complexity Text CompressionJunxuan Zhang, Zhengxue Cheng, Yan Zhao et al.
Learning-based probabilistic models can be combined with an entropy coder for data compression. However, due to the high complexity of learning-based models, their practical application as text compressors has been largely overlooked. To address this issue, our work focuses on a low-complexity design while maintaining compression performance. We introduce a novel Learned Lossless Low-complexity Text Compression method (L3TC). Specifically, we conduct extensive experiments demonstrating that RWKV models achieve the fastest decoding speed with a moderate compression ratio, making it the most suitable backbone for our method. Second, we propose an outlier-aware tokenizer that uses a limited vocabulary to cover frequent tokens while allowing outliers to bypass the prediction and encoding. Third, we propose a novel high-rank reparameterization strategy that enhances the learning capability during training without increasing complexity during inference. Experimental results validate that our method achieves 48% bit saving compared to gzip compressor. Besides, L3TC offers compression performance comparable to other learned compressors, with a 50x reduction in model parameters. More importantly, L3TC is the fastest among all learned compressors, providing real-time decoding speeds up to megabytes per second. Our code is available at https://github.com/alipay/L3TC-leveraging-rwkv-for-learned-lossless-low-complexity-text-compression.git.

StreamChat: Chatting with Streaming VideoJihao Liu, Zhiding Yu, Shiyi Lan et al.
This paper presents StreamChat, a novel approach that enhances the interaction capabilities of Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) with streaming video content. In streaming interaction scenarios, existing methods rely solely on visual information available at the moment a question is posed, resulting in significant delays as the model remains unaware of subsequent changes in the streaming video. StreamChat addresses this limitation by innovatively updating the visual context at each decoding step, ensuring that the model utilizes up-to-date video content throughout the decoding process. Additionally, we introduce a flexible and efficient crossattention-based architecture to process dynamic streaming inputs while maintaining inference efficiency for streaming interactions. Furthermore, we construct a new dense instruction dataset to facilitate the training of streaming interaction models, complemented by a parallel 3D-RoPE mechanism that encodes the relative temporal information of visual and text tokens. Experimental results demonstrate that StreamChat achieves competitive performance on established image and video benchmarks and exhibits superior capabilities in streaming interaction scenarios compared to state-of-the-art video LMM.

Transformer-based toxin-protein interaction analysis prioritizes airborne particulate matter components with potential adverse health effectsYan Zhu, Shihao Wang, Yong Han et al.
Air pollution, particularly airborne particulate matter (PM), poses a significant threat to public health globally. It is crucial to comprehend the association between PM-associated toxic components and their cellular targets in humans to understand the mechanisms by which air pollution impacts health and to establish causal relationships between air pollution and public health consequences. Although many studies have explored the impact of PM on human health, the understanding of the association between toxins and the associated targets remain limited. Leveraging cutting-edge deep learning technologies, we developed tipFormer (toxin-protein interaction prediction based on transformer), a novel deep-learning tool for identifying toxic components capable of penetrating human cells and instigating pathogenic biological activities and signaling cascades. Experimental results show that tipFormer effectively captures interactions between proteins and toxic components. It incorporates dual pre-trained language models to encode protein sequences and chemicals. It employs a convolutional encoder to assimilate the sequential attributes of proteins and chemicals. It then introduces a learning module with a cross-attention mechanism to decode and elucidate the multifaceted interactions pivotal for the hotspots binding proteins and chemicals. Experimental results show that tipFormer effectively captures interactions between proteins and toxic components. This approach offers significant value to air quality and toxicology researchers by allowing high-throughput identification and prioritization of hazards. It supports more targeted laboratory studies and field measurements, ultimately enhancing our understanding of how air pollution impacts human health.

Unified Multi-Contact Fall Mitigation Planning for Humanoids via Contact Transition Tree OptimizationShihao Wang, Kris Hauser
This paper presents a multi-contact approach to generalized humanoid fall mitigation planning that unifies inertial shaping, protective stepping, and hand contact strategies. The planner optimizes both the contact sequence and the robot state trajectories. A high-level tree search is conducted to iteratively grow a contact transition tree. At each edge of the tree, trajectory optimization is used to calculate robot stabilization trajectories that produce the desired contact transition while minimizing kinetic energy. Also, at each node of the tree, the optimizer attempts to find a self-motion (inertial shaping movement) to eliminate kinetic energy. This paper also presents an efficient and effective method to generate initial seeds to facilitate trajectory optimization. Experiments demonstrate show that our proposed algorithm can generate complex stabilization strategies for a simulated robot under varying initial pushes and environment shapes.

CNN-MERP: An FPGA-Based Memory-Efficient Reconfigurable Processor for Forward and Backward Propagation of Convolutional Neural NetworksXushen Han, Dajiang Zhou, Shihao Wang et al.
Large-scale deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are widely used in machine learning applications. While CNNs involve huge complexity, VLSI (ASIC and FPGA) chips that deliver high-density integration of computational resources are regarded as a promising platform for CNN's implementation. At massive parallelism of computational units, however, the external memory bandwidth, which is constrained by the pin count of the VLSI chip, becomes the system bottleneck. Moreover, VLSI solutions are usually regarded as a lack of the flexibility to be reconfigured for the various parameters of CNNs. This paper presents CNN-MERP to address these issues. CNN-MERP incorporates an efficient memory hierarchy that significantly reduces the bandwidth requirements from multiple optimizations including on/off-chip data allocation, data flow optimization and data reuse. The proposed 2-level reconfigurability is utilized to enable fast and efficient reconfiguration, which is based on the control logic and the multiboot feature of FPGA. As a result, an external memory bandwidth requirement of 1.94MB/GFlop is achieved, which is 55% lower than prior arts. Under limited DRAM bandwidth, a system throughput of 1244GFlop/s is achieved at the Vertex UltraScale platform, which is 5.48 times higher than the state-of-the-art FPGA implementations.

Chain-NN: An Energy-Efficient 1D Chain Architecture for Accelerating Deep Convolutional Neural NetworksShihao Wang, Dajiang Zhou, Xushen Han et al.
Deep convolutional neural networks (CNN) have shown their good performances in many computer vision tasks. However, the high computational complexity of CNN involves a huge amount of data movements between the computational processor core and memory hierarchy which occupies the major of the power consumption. This paper presents Chain-NN, a novel energy-efficient 1D chain architecture for accelerating deep CNNs. Chain-NN consists of the dedicated dual-channel process engines (PE). In Chain-NN, convolutions are done by the 1D systolic primitives composed of a group of adjacent PEs. These systolic primitives, together with the proposed column-wise scan input pattern, can fully reuse input operand to reduce the memory bandwidth requirement for energy saving. Moreover, the 1D chain architecture allows the systolic primitives to be easily reconfigured according to specific CNN parameters with fewer design complexity. The synthesis and layout of Chain-NN is under TSMC 28nm process. It costs 3751k logic gates and 352KB on-chip memory. The results show a 576-PE Chain-NN can be scaled up to 700MHz. This achieves a peak throughput of 806.4GOPS with 567.5mW and is able to accelerate the five convolutional layers in AlexNet at a frame rate of 326.2fps. 1421.0GOPS/W power efficiency is at least 2.5 to 4.1x times better than the state-of-the-art works.
