V2VSSC: A 3D Semantic Scene Completion Benchmark for Perception with Vehicle to Vehicle Communication

Yuanfang Zhang, Junxuan Li, Kaiqing Luo et al.

Semantic scene completion (SSC) has recently gained popularity because it can provide both semantic and geometric information that can be used directly for autonomous vehicle navigation. However, there are still challenges to overcome. SSC is often hampered by occlusion and short-range perception due to sensor limitations, which can pose safety risks. This paper proposes a fundamental solution to this problem by leveraging vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication. We propose the first generalized collaborative SSC framework that allows autonomous vehicles to share sensing information from different sensor views to jointly perform SSC tasks. To validate the proposed framework, we further build V2VSSC, the first V2V SSC benchmark, on top of the large-scale V2V perception dataset OPV2V. Extensive experiments demonstrate that by leveraging V2V communication, the SSC performance can be increased by 8.3% on geometric metric IoU and 6.0% mIOU.

PT-ResNet: Perspective Transformation-Based Residual Network for Semantic Road Image Segmentation

Rui Fan, Yuan Wang, Lei Qiao et al.

Semantic road region segmentation is a high-level task, which paves the way towards road scene understanding. This paper presents a residual network trained for semantic road segmentation. Firstly, we represent the projections of road disparities in the v-disparity map as a linear model, which can be estimated by optimizing the v-disparity map using dynamic programming. This linear model is then utilized to reduce the redundant information in the left and right road images. The right image is also transformed into the left perspective view, which greatly enhances the road surface similarity between the two images. Finally, the processed stereo images and their disparity maps are concatenated to create a set of 3D images, which are then utilized to train our neural network. The experimental results illustrate that our network achieves a maximum F1-measure of approximately 91.19% when analyzing the images from the KITTI road dataset.

A Unified Framework for Joint Mobility Prediction and Object Profiling of Drones in UAV Networks

Han Peng, Abolfazl Razi, Fatemeh Afghah et al.

In recent years, using a network of autonomous and cooperative unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) without command and communication from the ground station has become more imperative, in particular in search-and-rescue operations, disaster management, and other applications where human intervention is limited. In such scenarios, UAVs can make more efficient decisions if they acquire more information about the mobility, sensing and actuation capabilities of their neighbor nodes. In this paper, we develop an unsupervised online learning algorithm for joint mobility prediction and object profiling of UAVs to facilitate control and communication protocols. The proposed method not only predicts the future locations of the surrounding flying objects, but also classifies them into different groups with similar levels of maneuverability (e.g. rotatory, and fixed-wing UAVs) without prior knowledge about these classes. This method is flexible in admitting new object types with unknown mobility profiles, thereby applicable to emerging flying Ad-hoc networks with heterogeneous nodes.

Fast Constraint Propagation for Image Segmentation

Peng Han

This paper presents a novel selective constraint propagation method for constrained image segmentation. In the literature, many pairwise constraint propagation methods have been developed to exploit pairwise constraints for cluster analysis. However, since most of these methods have a polynomial time complexity, they are not much suitable for segmentation of images even with a moderate size, which is actually equivalent to cluster analysis with a large data size. Considering the local homogeneousness of a natural image, we choose to perform pairwise constraint propagation only over a selected subset of pixels, but not over the whole image. Such a selective constraint propagation problem is then solved by an efficient graph-based learning algorithm. To further speed up our selective constraint propagation, we also discard those less important propagated constraints during graph-based learning. Finally, the selectively propagated constraints are exploited based on $L_1$-minimization for normalized cuts over the whole image. The experimental results demonstrate the promising performance of the proposed method for segmentation with selectively propagated constraints.
