BMIP: Bi-directional Modality Interaction Prompt Learning for VLM

Song-Lin Lv, Yu-Yang Chen, Zhi Zhou et al.

Vision-language models (VLMs) have exhibited remarkable generalization capabilities, and prompt learning for VLMs has attracted great attention for the ability to adapt pre-trained VLMs to specific downstream tasks. However, existing studies mainly focus on single-modal prompts or uni-directional modality interaction, overlooking the powerful alignment effects resulting from the interaction between the vision and language modalities. To this end, we propose a novel prompt learning method called $\underline{\textbf{B}}i-directional \underline{\textbf{M}}odality \underline{\textbf{I}}nteraction \underline{\textbf{P}}rompt (BMIP)$, which dynamically weights bi-modal information through learning the information of the attention layer, enhancing trainability and inter-modal consistency compared to simple information aggregation methods. To evaluate the effectiveness of prompt learning methods, we propose a more realistic evaluation paradigm called open-world generalization complementing the widely adopted cross-dataset transfer and domain generalization tasks. Comprehensive experiments on various datasets reveal that BMIP not only outperforms current state-of-the-art methods across all three evaluation paradigms but is also flexible enough to be combined with other prompt-based methods for consistent performance enhancement.

BOSS: A Blockchain Off-State Sharing System

Shan Wang, Ming Yang, Tingjian Ge et al.

Blockchain has been applied to data sharing to ensure the integrity of data and chain of custody. Sharing big data such as large biomedical data files is a challenge to blockchain systems since the ledger is not designed to maintain big files, access control is an issue, and users may be dishonest. We call big data such as big files stored outside of a ledger that includes the blockchain and world state at a blockchain node as "off-state" and propose an off-state sharing protocol for a blockchain system to share big data between pairs of nodes. In our protocol, only encrypted files are transferred. The cryptographic key is stored in the world state in a secure way and can be accessed only by authorized parties. A receiver has to request the corresponding cryptographic key from the sender to decrypt such encrypted files. All requests are run through transactions to establish reliable chain of custody. We design and implement a prototypical blockchain off-state sharing system, BOSS, with Hyperledger Fabric. Extensive experiments were performed to validate the feasibility and performance of BOSS.

Top-N Recommendation on Graphs

Zhao Kang, Chong Peng, Ming Yang et al.

Recommender systems play an increasingly important role in online applications to help users find what they need or prefer. Collaborative filtering algorithms that generate predictions by analyzing the user-item rating matrix perform poorly when the matrix is sparse. To alleviate this problem, this paper proposes a simple recommendation algorithm that fully exploits the similarity information among users and items and intrinsic structural information of the user-item matrix. The proposed method constructs a new representation which preserves affinity and structure information in the user-item rating matrix and then performs recommendation task. To capture proximity information about users and items, two graphs are constructed. Manifold learning idea is used to constrain the new representation to be smooth on these graphs, so as to enforce users and item proximities. Our model is formulated as a convex optimization problem, for which we need to solve the well-known Sylvester equation only. We carry out extensive empirical evaluations on six benchmark datasets to show the effectiveness of this approach.
