Multi-Granularity Information Interaction Framework for Incomplete Utterance RewritingHaowei Du, Dinghao Zhang, Chen Li et al.
Recent approaches in Incomplete Utterance Rewriting (IUR) fail to capture the source of important words, which is crucial to edit the incomplete utterance, and introduce words from irrelevant utterances. We propose a novel and effective multi-task information interaction framework including context selection, edit matrix construction, and relevance merging to capture the multi-granularity of semantic information. Benefiting from fetching the relevant utterance and figuring out the important words, our approach outperforms existing state-of-the-art models on two benchmark datasets Restoration-200K and CANAND in this field. Nuclei Grading of Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma in Histopathological Image by Composite High-Resolution NetworkZeyu Gao, Jiangbo Shi, Xianli Zhang et al.
The grade of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a critical prognostic factor, making ccRCC nuclei grading a crucial task in RCC pathology analysis. Computer-aided nuclei grading aims to improve pathologists' work efficiency while reducing their misdiagnosis rate by automatically identifying the grades of tumor nuclei within histopathological images. Such a task requires precisely segment and accurately classify the nuclei. However, most of the existing nuclei segmentation and classification methods can not handle the inter-class similarity property of nuclei grading, thus can not be directly applied to the ccRCC grading task. In this paper, we propose a Composite High-Resolution Network for ccRCC nuclei grading. Specifically, we propose a segmentation network called W-Net that can separate the clustered nuclei. Then, we recast the fine-grained classification of nuclei to two cross-category classification tasks, based on two high-resolution feature extractors (HRFEs) which are proposed for learning these two tasks. The two HRFEs share the same backbone encoder with W-Net by a composite connection so that meaningful features for the segmentation task can be inherited for the classification task. Last, a head-fusion block is applied to generate the predicted label of each nucleus. Furthermore, we introduce a dataset for ccRCC nuclei grading, containing 1000 image patches with 70945 annotated nuclei. We demonstrate that our proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance compared to existing methods on this large ccRCC grading dataset.

Computer-aided Detection of Squamous Carcinoma of the Cervix in Whole Slide ImagesYe Tian, Li Yang, Wei Wang et al.
Goal: Squamous cell carcinoma of cervix is one of the most prevalent cancer worldwide in females. Traditionally, the most indispensable diagnosis of cervix squamous carcinoma is histopathological assessment which is achieved under microscope by pathologist. However, human evaluation of pathology slide is highly depending on the experience of pathologist, thus big inter- and intra-observer variability exists. Digital pathology, in combination with deep learning provides an opportunity to improve the objectivity and efficiency of histopathologic slide analysis. Methods: In this study, we obtained 800 haematoxylin and eosin stained slides from 300 patients suffered from cervix squamous carcinoma. Based on information from morphological heterogeneity in the tumor and its adjacent area, we established deep learning models using popular convolution neural network architectures (inception-v3, InceptionResnet-v2 and Resnet50). Then random forest was introduced to feature extractions and slide-based classification. Results: The overall performance of our proposed models on slide-based tumor discrimination were outstanding with an AUC scores > 0.94. While, location identifications of lesions in whole slide images were mediocre (FROC scores > 0.52) duo to the extreme complexity of tumor tissues. Conclusion: For the first time, our analysis workflow highlighted a quantitative visual-based slide analysis of cervix squamous carcinoma. Significance: This study demonstrates a pathway to assist pathologist and accelerate the diagnosis of patients by utilizing new computational approaches.

Gland Instance Segmentation by Deep Multichannel Side SupervisionYan Xu, Yang Li, Mingyuan Liu et al.
In this paper, we propose a new image instance segmentation method that segments individual glands (instances) in colon histology images. This is a task called instance segmentation that has recently become increasingly important. The problem is challenging since not only do the glands need to be segmented from the complex background, they are also required to be individually identified. Here we leverage the idea of image-to-image prediction in recent deep learning by building a framework that automatically exploits and fuses complex multichannel information, regional and boundary patterns, with side supervision (deep supervision on side responses) in gland histology images. Our proposed system, deep multichannel side supervision (DMCS), alleviates heavy feature design due to the use of convolutional neural networks guided by side supervision. Compared to methods reported in the 2015 MICCAI Gland Segmentation Challenge, we observe state-of-the-art results based on a number of evaluation metrics.
