AdapterShadow: Adapting Segment Anything Model for Shadow DetectionLeiping Jie, Hui Zhang
Segment anything model (SAM) has shown its spectacular performance in segmenting universal objects, especially when elaborate prompts are provided. However, the drawback of SAM is twofold. On the first hand, it fails to segment specific targets, e.g., shadow images or lesions in medical images. On the other hand, manually specifying prompts is extremely time-consuming. To overcome the problems, we propose AdapterShadow, which adapts SAM model for shadow detection. To adapt SAM for shadow images, trainable adapters are inserted into the frozen image encoder of SAM, since the training of the full SAM model is both time and memory consuming. Moreover, we introduce a novel grid sampling method to generate dense point prompts, which helps to automatically segment shadows without any manual interventions. Extensive experiments are conducted on four widely used benchmark datasets to demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed method. Codes will are publicly available at https://github.com/LeipingJie/AdapterShadow.

A Unified Framework for Iris Anti-Spoofing: Introducing Iris Anti-Spoofing Cross-Domain-Testing Protocol and Masked-MoE MethodHang Zou, Chenxi Du, Ajian Liu et al.
Iris recognition is widely used in high-security scenarios due to its stability and distinctiveness. However, iris images captured by different devices exhibit certain and device-related consistent differences, which has a greater impact on the classification algorithm for anti-spoofing. The iris of various races would also affect the classification, causing the risk of identity theft. So it is necessary to improve the cross-domain capabilities of the iris anti-spoofing (IAS) methods to enable it more robust in facing different races and devices. However, there is no existing protocol that is comprehensively available. To address this gap, we propose an Iris Anti-Spoofing Cross-Domain-Testing (IAS-CDT) Protocol, which involves 10 datasets, belonging to 7 databases, published by 4 institutions, and collected with 6 different devices. It contains three sub-protocols hierarchically, aimed at evaluating average performance, cross-racial generalization, and cross-device generalization of IAS models. Moreover, to address the cross-device generalization challenge brought by the IAS-CDT Protocol, we employ multiple model parameter sets to learn from the multiple sub-datasets. Specifically, we utilize the Mixture of Experts (MoE) to fit complex data distributions using multiple sub-neural networks. To further enhance the generalization capabilities, we propose a novel method Masked-MoE (MMoE), which randomly masks a portion of tokens for some experts and requires their outputs to be similar to the unmasked experts, which can effectively mitigate the overfitting issue of MoE. For the evaluation, we selected ResNet50, VIT-B/16, CLIP, and FLIP as representative models and benchmarked them under the proposed IAS-CDT Protocol.

CoDS: Enhancing Collaborative Perception in Heterogeneous Scenarios via Domain SeparationYushan Han, Hui Zhang, Honglei Zhang et al.
Collaborative perception has been proven to improve individual perception in autonomous driving through multi-agent interaction. Nevertheless, most methods often assume identical encoders for all agents, which does not hold true when these models are deployed in real-world applications. To realize collaborative perception in actual heterogeneous scenarios, existing methods usually align neighbor features to those of the ego vehicle, which is vulnerable to noise from domain gaps and thus fails to address feature discrepancies effectively. Moreover, they adopt transformer-based modules for domain adaptation, which causes the model inference inefficiency on mobile devices. To tackle these issues, we propose CoDS, a Collaborative perception method that leverages Domain Separation to address feature discrepancies in heterogeneous scenarios. The CoDS employs two feature alignment modules, i.e., Lightweight Spatial-Channel Resizer (LSCR) and Distribution Alignment via Domain Separation (DADS). Besides, it utilizes the Domain Alignment Mutual Information (DAMI) loss to ensure effective feature alignment. Specifically, the LSCR aligns the neighbor feature across spatial and channel dimensions using a lightweight convolutional layer. Subsequently, the DADS mitigates feature distribution discrepancy with encoder-specific and encoder-agnostic domain separation modules. The former removes domain-dependent information and the latter captures task-related information. During training, the DAMI loss maximizes the mutual information between aligned heterogeneous features to enhance the domain separation process. The CoDS employs a fully convolutional architecture, which ensures high inference efficiency. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the CoDS effectively mitigates feature discrepancies in heterogeneous scenarios and achieves a trade-off between detection accuracy and inference efficiency.

TEFormer: Texture-Aware and Edge-Guided Transformer for Semantic Segmentation of Urban Remote Sensing ImagesGuoyu Zhou, Jing Zhang, Yi Yan et al.
Semantic segmentation of urban remote sensing images (URSIs) is crucial for applications such as urban planning and environmental monitoring. However, geospatial objects often exhibit subtle texture differences and similar spatial structures, which can easily lead to semantic ambiguity and misclassification. Moreover, challenges such as irregular object shapes, blurred boundaries, and overlapping spatial distributions of semantic objects contribute to complex and diverse edge morphologies, further complicating accurate segmentation. To tackle these issues, we propose a texture-aware and edge-guided Transformer (TEFormer) that integrates texture awareness and edge-guidance mechanisms for semantic segmentation of URSIs. In the encoder, a texture-aware module (TaM) is designed to capture fine-grained texture differences between visually similar categories to enhance semantic discrimination. Then, an edge-guided tri-branch decoder (Eg3Head) is constructed to preserve local edges and details for multiscale context-awareness. Finally, an edge-guided feature fusion module (EgFFM) is to fuse contextual and detail information with edge information to realize refined semantic segmentation. Extensive experiments show that TEFormer achieves mIoU of 88.57%, 81.46%, and 53.55% on the Potsdam, Vaihingen, and LoveDA datasets, respectively, shows the effectiveness in URSI semantic segmentation.

Seg2Any: Open-set Segmentation-Mask-to-Image Generation with Precise Shape and Semantic ControlDanfeng Li, Hui Zhang, Sheng Wang et al.
Despite recent advances in diffusion models, top-tier text-to-image (T2I) models still struggle to achieve precise spatial layout control, i.e. accurately generating entities with specified attributes and locations. Segmentation-mask-to-image (S2I) generation has emerged as a promising solution by incorporating pixel-level spatial guidance and regional text prompts. However, existing S2I methods fail to simultaneously ensure semantic consistency and shape consistency. To address these challenges, we propose Seg2Any, a novel S2I framework built upon advanced multimodal diffusion transformers (e.g. FLUX). First, to achieve both semantic and shape consistency, we decouple segmentation mask conditions into regional semantic and high-frequency shape components. The regional semantic condition is introduced by a Semantic Alignment Attention Mask, ensuring that generated entities adhere to their assigned text prompts. The high-frequency shape condition, representing entity boundaries, is encoded as an Entity Contour Map and then introduced as an additional modality via multi-modal attention to guide image spatial structure. Second, to prevent attribute leakage across entities in multi-entity scenarios, we introduce an Attribute Isolation Attention Mask mechanism, which constrains each entity's image tokens to attend exclusively to themselves during image self-attention. To support open-set S2I generation, we construct SACap-1M, a large-scale dataset containing 1 million images with 5.9 million segmented entities and detailed regional captions, along with a SACap-Eval benchmark for comprehensive S2I evaluation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Seg2Any achieves state-of-the-art performance on both open-set and closed-set S2I benchmarks, particularly in fine-grained spatial and attribute control of entities.

Combining Self-Supervised and Supervised Learning with Noisy LabelsYongqi Zhang, Hui Zhang, Quanming Yao et al.
Since convolutional neural networks (CNNs) can easily overfit noisy labels, which are ubiquitous in visual classification tasks, it has been a great challenge to train CNNs against them robustly. Various methods have been proposed for this challenge. However, none of them pay attention to the difference between representation and classifier learning of CNNs. Thus, inspired by the observation that classifier is more robust to noisy labels while representation is much more fragile, and by the recent advances of self-supervised representation learning (SSRL) technologies, we design a new method, i.e., CS$^3$NL, to obtain representation by SSRL without labels and train the classifier directly with noisy labels. Extensive experiments are performed on both synthetic and real benchmark datasets. Results demonstrate that the proposed method can beat the state-of-the-art ones by a large margin, especially under a high noisy level.

A lateral semicircular canal segmentation based geometric calibration for human temporal bone CT ImageXiaoguang Li, Peng Fu, Hongxia Yin et al.
Computed Tomography (CT) of the temporal bone has become an important method for diagnosing ear diseases. Due to the different posture of the subject and the settings of CT scanners, the CT image of the human temporal bone should be geometrically calibrated to ensure the symmetry of the bilateral anatomical structure. Manual calibration is a time-consuming task for radiologists and an important pre-processing step for further computer-aided CT analysis. We propose an automatic calibration algorithm for temporal bone CT images. The lateral semicircular canals (LSCs) are segmented as anchors at first. Then, we define a standard 3D coordinate system. The key step is the LSC segmentation. We design a novel 3D LSC segmentation encoder-decoder network, which introduces a 3D dilated convolution and a multi-pooling scheme for feature fusion in the encoding stage. The experimental results show that our LSC segmentation network achieved a higher segmentation accuracy. Our proposed method can help to perform calibration of temporal bone CT images efficiently.
