DiffSmooth: Certifiably Robust Learning via Diffusion Models and Local Smoothing

Diffusion models have been leveraged to perform adversarial purification and thus provide both empirical and certified robustness for a standard model. On the other hand, different robustly trained smoothed models have been studied to improve the certified robustness. Thus, it raises a natural question: Can diffusion model be used to achieve improved certified robustness on those robustly trained smoothed models? In this work, we first theoretically show that recovered instances by diffusion models are in the bounded neighborhood of the original instance with high probability; and the "one-shot" denoising diffusion probabilistic models (DDPM) can approximate the mean of the generated distribution of a continuous-time diffusion model, which approximates the original instance under mild conditions. Inspired by our analysis, we propose a certifiably robust pipeline DiffSmooth, which first performs adversarial purification via diffusion models and then maps the purified instances to a common region via a simple yet effective local smoothing strategy. We conduct extensive experiments on different datasets and show that DiffSmooth achieves SOTA-certified robustness compared with eight baselines. For instance, DiffSmooth improves the SOTA-certified accuracy from $36.0\%$ to $53.0\%$ under $\ell_2$ radius $1.5$ on ImageNet. The code is available at [https://github.com/javyduck/DiffSmooth].

Learning Diverse Tone Styles for Image Retouching

Image retouching, aiming to regenerate the visually pleasing renditions of given images, is a subjective task where the users are with different aesthetic sensations. Most existing methods deploy a deterministic model to learn the retouching style from a specific expert, making it less flexible to meet diverse subjective preferences. Besides, the intrinsic diversity of an expert due to the targeted processing on different images is also deficiently described. To circumvent such issues, we propose to learn diverse image retouching with normalizing flow-based architectures. Unlike current flow-based methods which directly generate the output image, we argue that learning in a style domain could (i) disentangle the retouching styles from the image content, (ii) lead to a stable style presentation form, and (iii) avoid the spatial disharmony effects. For obtaining meaningful image tone style representations, a joint-training pipeline is delicately designed, which is composed of a style encoder, a conditional RetouchNet, and the image tone style normalizing flow (TSFlow) module. In particular, the style encoder predicts the target style representation of an input image, which serves as the conditional information in the RetouchNet for retouching, while the TSFlow maps the style representation vector into a Gaussian distribution in the forward pass. After training, the TSFlow can generate diverse image tone style vectors by sampling from the Gaussian distribution. Extensive experiments on MIT-Adobe FiveK and PPR10K datasets show that our proposed method performs favorably against state-of-the-art methods and is effective in generating diverse results to satisfy different human aesthetic preferences. Double Sampling Randomized Smoothing

Neural networks (NNs) are known to be vulnerable against adversarial perturbations, and thus there is a line of work aiming to provide robustness certification for NNs, such as randomized smoothing, which samples smoothing noises from a certain distribution to certify the robustness for a smoothed classifier. However, as shown by previous work, the certified robust radius in randomized smoothing suffers from scaling to large datasets ("curse of dimensionality"). To overcome this hurdle, we propose a Double Sampling Randomized Smoothing (DSRS) framework, which exploits the sampled probability from an additional smoothing distribution to tighten the robustness certification of the previous smoothed classifier. Theoretically, under mild assumptions, we prove that DSRS can certify $Θ(\sqrt d)$ robust radius under $\ell_2$ norm where $d$ is the input dimension, implying that DSRS may be able to break the curse of dimensionality of randomized smoothing. We instantiate DSRS for a generalized family of Gaussian smoothing and propose an efficient and sound computing method based on customized dual optimization considering sampling error. Extensive experiments on MNIST, CIFAR-10, and ImageNet verify our theory and show that DSRS certifies larger robust radii than existing baselines consistently under different settings. Inverse Reinforcement Learning without an Optimal Demonstrator: A Feasible Reward Set Approach

Inverse reinforcement learning (IRL) typically assumes demonstrations from a single optimal demonstrator, but in many applications data come from multiple imperfect demonstrators with heterogeneous suboptimality levels. We study reward learning in this setting through a feasible-reward-set framework: for each demonstrator, we encode its declared suboptimality level as a linear constraint and intersect the resulting feasible sets across demonstrators. Our theoretical analysis shows that the joint feasible set shrinks monotonically as data are added, and we give an exact characterization of when a new demonstrator strictly tightens it. We further establish two recovery guarantees for the feasible reward set of the ground-truth optimal demonstrator: one bound depends on closeness to the optimal occupancy, while the other requires only sufficient coverage and no near-optimal demonstrator. On the practical side, we introduce strategies to address the inherent reward ambiguity in the obtained reward set and provide an offline algorithm with function approximation for high-dimensional environments. Experiments in tabular grid-world and large language model (LLM) fine-tuning settings are consistent with the theoretical predictions and demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework over baselines.

Graph Collaborative Signals Denoising and Augmentation for Recommendation

Graph collaborative filtering (GCF) is a popular technique for capturing high-order collaborative signals in recommendation systems. However, GCF's bipartite adjacency matrix, which defines the neighbors being aggregated based on user-item interactions, can be noisy for users/items with abundant interactions and insufficient for users/items with scarce interactions. Additionally, the adjacency matrix ignores user-user and item-item correlations, which can limit the scope of beneficial neighbors being aggregated. In this work, we propose a new graph adjacency matrix that incorporates user-user and item-item correlations, as well as a properly designed user-item interaction matrix that balances the number of interactions across all users. To achieve this, we pre-train a graph-based recommendation method to obtain users/items embeddings, and then enhance the user-item interaction matrix via top-K sampling. We also augment the symmetric user-user and item-item correlation components to the adjacency matrix. Our experiments demonstrate that the enhanced user-item interaction matrix with improved neighbors and lower density leads to significant benefits in graph-based recommendation. Moreover, we show that the inclusion of user-user and item-item correlations can improve recommendations for users with both abundant and insufficient interactions. HumanMAC: Masked Motion Completion for Human Motion Prediction

Human motion prediction is a classical problem in computer vision and computer graphics, which has a wide range of practical applications. Previous effects achieve great empirical performance based on an encoding-decoding style. The methods of this style work by first encoding previous motions to latent representations and then decoding the latent representations into predicted motions. However, in practice, they are still unsatisfactory due to several issues, including complicated loss constraints, cumbersome training processes, and scarce switch of different categories of motions in prediction. In this paper, to address the above issues, we jump out of the foregoing style and propose a novel framework from a new perspective. Specifically, our framework works in a masked completion fashion. In the training stage, we learn a motion diffusion model that generates motions from random noise. In the inference stage, with a denoising procedure, we make motion prediction conditioning on observed motions to output more continuous and controllable predictions. The proposed framework enjoys promising algorithmic properties, which only needs one loss in optimization and is trained in an end-to-end manner. Additionally, it accomplishes the switch of different categories of motions effectively, which is significant in realistic tasks, e.g., the animation task. Unsupervised Multi-document Summarization with Holistic Inference

Multi-document summarization aims to obtain core information from a collection of documents written on the same topic. This paper proposes a new holistic framework for unsupervised multi-document extractive summarization. Our method incorporates the holistic beam search inference method associated with the holistic measurements, named Subset Representative Index (SRI). SRI balances the importance and diversity of a subset of sentences from the source documents and can be calculated in unsupervised and adaptive manners. To demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, we conduct extensive experiments on both small and large-scale multi-document summarization datasets under both unsupervised and adaptive settings. The proposed method outperforms strong baselines by a significant margin, as indicated by the resulting ROUGE scores and diversity measures. Our findings also suggest that diversity is essential for improving multi-document summary performance.

Efficient and Accurate Quantized Image Super-Resolution on Mobile NPUs, Mobile AI & AIM 2022 challenge: Report

Image super-resolution is a common task on mobile and IoT devices, where one often needs to upscale and enhance low-resolution images and video frames. While numerous solutions have been proposed for this problem in the past, they are usually not compatible with low-power mobile NPUs having many computational and memory constraints. In this Mobile AI challenge, we address this problem and propose the participants to design an efficient quantized image super-resolution solution that can demonstrate a real-time performance on mobile NPUs. The participants were provided with the DIV2K dataset and trained INT8 models to do a high-quality 3X image upscaling. The runtime of all models was evaluated on the Synaptics VS680 Smart Home board with a dedicated edge NPU capable of accelerating quantized neural networks. All proposed solutions are fully compatible with the above NPU, demonstrating an up to 60 FPS rate when reconstructing Full HD resolution images. A detailed description of all models developed in the challenge is provided in this paper.

Revisiting Domain Generalized Stereo Matching Networks from a Feature Consistency Perspective

Despite recent stereo matching networks achieving impressive performance given sufficient training data, they suffer from domain shifts and generalize poorly to unseen domains. We argue that maintaining feature consistency between matching pixels is a vital factor for promoting the generalization capability of stereo matching networks, which has not been adequately considered. Here we address this issue by proposing a simple pixel-wise contrastive learning across the viewpoints. The stereo contrastive feature loss function explicitly constrains the consistency between learned features of matching pixel pairs which are observations of the same 3D points. A stereo selective whitening loss is further introduced to better preserve the stereo feature consistency across domains, which decorrelates stereo features from stereo viewpoint-specific style information. Counter-intuitively, the generalization of feature consistency between two viewpoints in the same scene translates to the generalization of stereo matching performance to unseen domains. Our method is generic in nature as it can be easily embedded into existing stereo networks and does not require access to the samples in the target domain. When trained on synthetic data and generalized to four real-world testing sets, our method achieves superior performance over several state-of-the-art networks.

Efficient Region-Aware Neural Radiance Fields for High-Fidelity Talking Portrait Synthesis

This paper presents ER-NeRF, a novel conditional Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) based architecture for talking portrait synthesis that can concurrently achieve fast convergence, real-time rendering, and state-of-the-art performance with small model size. Our idea is to explicitly exploit the unequal contribution of spatial regions to guide talking portrait modeling. Specifically, to improve the accuracy of dynamic head reconstruction, a compact and expressive NeRF-based Tri-Plane Hash Representation is introduced by pruning empty spatial regions with three planar hash encoders. For speech audio, we propose a Region Attention Module to generate region-aware condition feature via an attention mechanism. Different from existing methods that utilize an MLP-based encoder to learn the cross-modal relation implicitly, the attention mechanism builds an explicit connection between audio features and spatial regions to capture the priors of local motions. Moreover, a direct and fast Adaptive Pose Encoding is introduced to optimize the head-torso separation problem by mapping the complex transformation of the head pose into spatial coordinates. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method renders better high-fidelity and audio-lips synchronized talking portrait videos, with realistic details and high efficiency compared to previous methods.

When Expressivity Meets Trainability: Fewer than $n$ Neurons Can Work

Modern neural networks are often quite wide, causing large memory and computation costs. It is thus of great interest to train a narrower network. However, training narrow neural nets remains a challenging task. We ask two theoretical questions: Can narrow networks have as strong expressivity as wide ones? If so, does the loss function exhibit a benign optimization landscape? In this work, we provide partially affirmative answers to both questions for 1-hidden-layer networks with fewer than $n$ (sample size) neurons when the activation is smooth. First, we prove that as long as the width $m \geq 2n/d$ (where $d$ is the input dimension), its expressivity is strong, i.e., there exists at least one global minimizer with zero training loss. Second, we identify a nice local region with no local-min or saddle points. Nevertheless, it is not clear whether gradient descent can stay in this nice region. Third, we consider a constrained optimization formulation where the feasible region is the nice local region, and prove that every KKT point is a nearly global minimizer. It is expected that projected gradient methods converge to KKT points under mild technical conditions, but we leave the rigorous convergence analysis to future work. Thorough numerical results show that projected gradient methods on this constrained formulation significantly outperform SGD for training narrow neural nets.

What is a Good Metric to Study Generalization of Minimax Learners?

Minimax optimization has served as the backbone of many machine learning (ML) problems. Although the convergence behavior of optimization algorithms has been extensively studied in the minimax settings, their generalization guarantees in stochastic minimax optimization problems, i.e., how the solution trained on empirical data performs on unseen testing data, have been relatively underexplored. A fundamental question remains elusive: What is a good metric to study generalization of minimax learners? In this paper, we aim to answer this question by first showing that primal risk, a universal metric to study generalization in minimization problems, which has also been adopted recently to study generalization in minimax ones, fails in simple examples. We thus propose a new metric to study generalization of minimax learners: the primal gap, defined as the difference between the primal risk and its minimum over all models, to circumvent the issues. Next, we derive generalization error bounds for the primal gap in nonconvex-concave settings. As byproducts of our analysis, we also solve two open questions: establishing generalization error bounds for primal risk and primal-dual risk, another existing metric that is only well-defined when the global saddle-point exists, in the strong sense, i.e., without strong concavity or assuming that the maximization and expectation can be interchanged, while either of these assumptions was needed in the literature. Finally, we leverage this new metric to compare the generalization behavior of two popular algorithms -- gradient descent-ascent (GDA) and gradient descent-max (GDMax) in stochastic minimax optimization.

Offline Reinforcement Learning via Linear-Programming with Error-Bound Induced Constraints

Offline reinforcement learning (RL) aims to find an optimal policy for Markov decision processes (MDPs) using a pre-collected dataset. In this work, we revisit the linear programming (LP) reformulation of Markov decision processes for offline RL, with the goal of developing algorithms with optimal $O(1/\sqrt{n})$ sample complexity, where $n$ is the sample size, under partial data coverage and general function approximation, and with favorable computational tractability. To this end, we derive new \emph{error bounds} for both the dual and primal-dual formulations of the LP, and incorporate them properly as \emph{constraints} in the LP reformulation. We then show that under a completeness-type assumption, $O(1/\sqrt{n})$ sample complexity can be achieved under standard single-policy coverage assumption, when one properly \emph{relaxes} the occupancy validity constraint in the LP. This framework can readily handle both infinite-horizon discounted and average-reward MDPs, in both general function approximation and tabular cases. The instantiation to the tabular case achieves either state-of-the-art or the first sample complexities of offline RL in these settings. To further remove any completeness-type assumption, we then introduce a proper \emph{lower-bound constraint} in the LP, and a variant of the standard single-policy coverage assumption. Such an algorithm leads to a $O(1/\sqrt{n})$ sample complexity with dependence on the \emph{value-function gap}, with only realizability assumptions. Our properly constrained LP framework advances the existing results in several aspects, in relaxing certain assumptions and achieving the optimal $O(1/\sqrt{n})$ sample complexity, with simple analyses. We hope our results bring new insights into the use of LP formulations and the equivalent primal-dual minimax optimization for offline RL, through the error-bound induced constraints.

CARE: Certifiably Robust Learning with Reasoning via Variational Inference

Despite great recent advances achieved by deep neural networks (DNNs), they are often vulnerable to adversarial attacks. Intensive research efforts have been made to improve the robustness of DNNs; however, most empirical defenses can be adaptively attacked again, and the theoretically certified robustness is limited, especially on large-scale datasets. One potential root cause of such vulnerabilities for DNNs is that although they have demonstrated powerful expressiveness, they lack the reasoning ability to make robust and reliable predictions. In this paper, we aim to integrate domain knowledge to enable robust learning with the reasoning paradigm. In particular, we propose a certifiably robust learning with reasoning pipeline (CARE), which consists of a learning component and a reasoning component. Concretely, we use a set of standard DNNs to serve as the learning component to make semantic predictions, and we leverage the probabilistic graphical models, such as Markov logic networks (MLN), to serve as the reasoning component to enable knowledge/logic reasoning. However, it is known that the exact inference of MLN (reasoning) is #P-complete, which limits the scalability of the pipeline. To this end, we propose to approximate the MLN inference via variational inference based on an efficient expectation maximization algorithm. In particular, we leverage graph convolutional networks (GCNs) to encode the posterior distribution during variational inference and update the parameters of GCNs (E-step) and the weights of knowledge rules in MLN (M-step) iteratively. We conduct extensive experiments on different datasets and show that CARE achieves significantly higher certified robustness compared with the state-of-the-art baselines. We additionally conducted different ablation studies to demonstrate the empirical robustness of CARE and the effectiveness of different knowledge integration.

Deep Richardson-Lucy Deconvolution for Low-Light Image Deblurring

Images taken under the low-light condition often contain blur and saturated pixels at the same time. Deblurring images with saturated pixels is quite challenging. Because of the limited dynamic range, the saturated pixels are usually clipped in the imaging process and thus cannot be modeled by the linear blur model. Previous methods use manually designed smooth functions to approximate the clipping procedure. Their deblurring processes often require empirically defined parameters, which may not be the optimal choices for different images. In this paper, we develop a data-driven approach to model the saturated pixels by a learned latent map. Based on the new model, the non-blind deblurring task can be formulated into a maximum a posterior (MAP) problem, which can be effectively solved by iteratively computing the latent map and the latent image. Specifically, the latent map is computed by learning from a map estimation network (MEN), and the latent image estimation process is implemented by a Richardson-Lucy (RL)-based updating scheme. To estimate high-quality deblurred images without amplified artifacts, we develop a prior estimation network (PEN) to obtain prior information, which is further integrated into the RL scheme. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method performs favorably against state-of-the-art algorithms both quantitatively and qualitatively on synthetic and real-world images.

Deep Dynamic Scene Deblurring from Optical Flow

Deblurring can not only provide visually more pleasant pictures and make photography more convenient, but also can improve the performance of objection detection as well as tracking. However, removing dynamic scene blur from images is a non-trivial task as it is difficult to model the non-uniform blur mathematically. Several methods first use single or multiple images to estimate optical flow (which is treated as an approximation of blur kernels) and then adopt non-blind deblurring algorithms to reconstruct the sharp images. However, these methods cannot be trained in an end-to-end manner and are usually computationally expensive. In this paper, we explore optical flow to remove dynamic scene blur by using the multi-scale spatially variant recurrent neural network (RNN). We utilize FlowNets to estimate optical flow from two consecutive images in different scales. The estimated optical flow provides the RNN weights in different scales so that the weights can better help RNNs to remove blur in the feature spaces. Finally, we develop a convolutional neural network (CNN) to restore the sharp images from the deblurred features. Both quantitative and qualitative evaluations on the benchmark datasets demonstrate that the proposed method performs favorably against state-of-the-art algorithms in terms of accuracy, speed, and model size.

RestoreFormer++: Towards Real-World Blind Face Restoration from Undegraded Key-Value Pairs

Blind face restoration aims at recovering high-quality face images from those with unknown degradations. Current algorithms mainly introduce priors to complement high-quality details and achieve impressive progress. However, most of these algorithms ignore abundant contextual information in the face and its interplay with the priors, leading to sub-optimal performance. Moreover, they pay less attention to the gap between the synthetic and real-world scenarios, limiting the robustness and generalization to real-world applications. In this work, we propose RestoreFormer++, which on the one hand introduces fully-spatial attention mechanisms to model the contextual information and the interplay with the priors, and on the other hand, explores an extending degrading model to help generate more realistic degraded face images to alleviate the synthetic-to-real-world gap. Compared with current algorithms, RestoreFormer++ has several crucial benefits. First, instead of using a multi-head self-attention mechanism like the traditional visual transformer, we introduce multi-head cross-attention over multi-scale features to fully explore spatial interactions between corrupted information and high-quality priors. In this way, it can facilitate RestoreFormer++ to restore face images with higher realness and fidelity. Second, in contrast to the recognition-oriented dictionary, we learn a reconstruction-oriented dictionary as priors, which contains more diverse high-quality facial details and better accords with the restoration target. Third, we introduce an extending degrading model that contains more realistic degraded scenarios for training data synthesizing, and thus helps to enhance the robustness and generalization of our RestoreFormer++ model. Extensive experiments show that RestoreFormer++ outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms on both synthetic and real-world datasets.

An application of Pixel Interval Down-sampling (PID) for dense tiny microorganism counting on environmental microorganism images

This paper proposes a novel pixel interval down-sampling network (PID-Net) for dense tiny object (yeast cells) counting tasks with higher accuracy. The PID-Net is an end-to-end convolutional neural network (CNN) model with an encoder--decoder architecture. The pixel interval down-sampling operations are concatenated with max-pooling operations to combine the sparse and dense features. This addresses the limitation of contour conglutination of dense objects while counting. The evaluation was conducted using classical segmentation metrics (the Dice, Jaccard and Hausdorff distance) as well as counting metrics. The experimental results show that the proposed PID-Net had the best performance and potential for dense tiny object counting tasks, which achieved 96.97\% counting accuracy on the dataset with 2448 yeast cell images. By comparing with the state-of-the-art approaches, such as Attention U-Net, Swin U-Net and Trans U-Net, the proposed PID-Net can segment dense tiny objects with clearer boundaries and fewer incorrect debris, which shows the great potential of PID-Net in the task of accurate counting.

Driving behavior-guided battery health monitoring for electric vehicles using machine learning

An accurate estimation of the state of health (SOH) of batteries is critical to ensuring the safe and reliable operation of electric vehicles (EVs). Feature-based machine learning methods have exhibited enormous potential for rapidly and precisely monitoring battery health status. However, simultaneously using various health indicators (HIs) may weaken estimation performance due to feature redundancy. Furthermore, ignoring real-world driving behaviors can lead to inaccurate estimation results as some features are rarely accessible in practical scenarios. To address these issues, we proposed a feature-based machine learning pipeline for reliable battery health monitoring, enabled by evaluating the acquisition probability of features under real-world driving conditions. We first summarized and analyzed various individual HIs with mechanism-related interpretations, which provide insightful guidance on how these features relate to battery degradation modes. Moreover, all features were carefully evaluated and screened based on estimation accuracy and correlation analysis on three public battery degradation datasets. Finally, the scenario-based feature fusion and acquisition probability-based practicality evaluation method construct a useful tool for feature extraction with consideration of driving behaviors. This work highlights the importance of balancing the performance and practicality of HIs during the development of feature-based battery health monitoring algorithms.

Breaking the Lower Bound with (Little) Structure: Acceleration in Non-Convex Stochastic Optimization with Heavy-Tailed Noise

Zhang et al. (2020) is the first to prove the $Ω(T^{\frac{1-p}{3p-2}})$ lower bound for convergence (in expectation) and provides a simple clipping algorithm that matches this optimal rate. Cutkosky and Mehta (2021) proposes another algorithm, which is shown to achieve the nearly optimal high-probability convergence guarantee $O(\log(T/δ)T^{\frac{1-p}{3p-2}})$, where $δ$ is the probability of failure. However, this desirable guarantee is only established under the additional assumption that the stochastic gradient itself is bounded in $p$th moment, which fails to hold even for quadratic objectives and centered Gaussian noise. In this work, we first improve the analysis of the algorithm in Cutkosky and Mehta (2021) to obtain the same nearly optimal high-probability convergence rate $O(\log(T/δ)T^{\frac{1-p}{3p-2}})$, without the above-mentioned restrictive assumption. Next, and curiously, we show that one can achieve a faster rate than that dictated by the lower bound $Ω(T^{\frac{1-p}{3p-2}})$ with only a tiny bit of structure, i.e., when the objective function $F(x)$ is assumed to be in the form of $\mathbb{E}_{Ξ\sim\mathcal{D}}[f(x,Ξ)]$, arguably the most widely applicable class of stochastic optimization problems. For this class of problems, we propose the first variance-reduced accelerated algorithm and establish that it guarantees a high-probability convergence rate of $O(\log(T/δ)T^{\frac{1-p}{2p-1}})$ under a mild condition, which is faster than $Ω(T^{\frac{1-p}{3p-2}})$. Notably, even when specialized to the finite-variance case, our result yields the (near-)optimal high-probability rate $O(\log(T/δ)T^{-1/3})$.

TOD-CNN: An Effective Convolutional Neural Network for Tiny Object Detection in Sperm Videos

The detection of tiny objects in microscopic videos is a problematic point, especially in large-scale experiments. For tiny objects (such as sperms) in microscopic videos, current detection methods face challenges in fuzzy, irregular, and precise positioning of objects. In contrast, we present a convolutional neural network for tiny object detection (TOD-CNN) with an underlying data set of high-quality sperm microscopic videos (111 videos, $>$ 278,000 annotated objects), and a graphical user interface (GUI) is designed to employ and test the proposed model effectively. TOD-CNN is highly accurate, achieving $85.60\%$ AP$_{50}$ in the task of real-time sperm detection in microscopic videos. To demonstrate the importance of sperm detection technology in sperm quality analysis, we carry out relevant sperm quality evaluation metrics and compare them with the diagnosis results from medical doctors.

AMC-Net: An Effective Network for Automatic Modulation Classification

Automatic modulation classification (AMC) is a crucial stage in the spectrum management, signal monitoring, and control of wireless communication systems. The accurate classification of the modulation format plays a vital role in the subsequent decoding of the transmitted data. End-to-end deep learning methods have been recently applied to AMC, outperforming traditional feature engineering techniques. However, AMC still has limitations in low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) environments. To address the drawback, we propose a novel AMC-Net that improves recognition by denoising the input signal in the frequency domain while performing multi-scale and effective feature extraction. Experiments on two representative datasets demonstrate that our model performs better in efficiency and effectiveness than the most current methods.

Learning to Order for Inventory Systems with Lost Sales and Uncertain Supplies

We consider a stochastic lost-sales inventory control system with a lead time $L$ over a planning horizon $T$. Supply is uncertain, and is a function of the order quantity (due to random yield/capacity, etc). We aim to minimize the $T$-period cost, a problem that is known to be computationally intractable even under known distributions of demand and supply. In this paper, we assume that both the demand and supply distributions are unknown and develop a computationally efficient online learning algorithm. We show that our algorithm achieves a regret (i.e. the performance gap between the cost of our algorithm and that of an optimal policy over $T$ periods) of $O(L+\sqrt{T})$ when $L\geq\log(T)$. We do so by 1) showing our algorithm cost is higher by at most $O(L+\sqrt{T})$ for any $L\geq 0$ compared to an optimal constant-order policy under complete information (a well-known and widely-used algorithm) and 2) leveraging its known performance guarantee from the existing literature. To the best of our knowledge, a finite-sample $O(\sqrt{T})$ (and polynomial in $L$) regret bound when benchmarked against an optimal policy is not known before in the online inventory control literature. A key challenge in this learning problem is that both demand and supply data can be censored; hence only truncated values are observable. We circumvent this challenge by showing that the data generated under an order quantity $q^2$ allows us to simulate the performance of not only $q^2$ but also $q^1$ for all $q^1<q^2$, a key observation to obtain sufficient information even under data censoring. By establishing a high probability coupling argument, we are able to evaluate and compare the performance of different order policies at their steady state within a finite time horizon. Since the problem lacks convexity, we develop an active elimination method that adaptively rules out suboptimal solutions.

Continual-learning-based framework for structural damage recognition

Multi-damage is common in reinforced concrete structures and leads to the requirement of large number of neural networks, parameters and data storage, if convolutional neural network (CNN) is used for damage recognition. In addition, conventional CNN experiences catastrophic forgetting and training inefficiency as the number of tasks increases during continual learning, leading to large accuracy decrease of previous learned tasks. To address these problems, this study proposes a continuallearning-based damage recognition model (CLDRM) which integrates the learning without forgetting continual learning method into the ResNet-34 architecture for the recognition of damages in RC structures as well as relevant structural components. Three experiments for four recognition tasks were designed to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the CLDRM framework. In this way, it reduces both the prediction time and data storage by about 75% in four tasks of continuous learning. Three experiments for four recognition tasks were designed to validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the CLDRM framework. By gradual feature fusion, CLDRM outperformed other methods by managed to achieve high accuracy in the damage recognition and classification. As the number of recognition tasks increased, CLDRM also experienced smaller decrease of the previous learned tasks. Results indicate that the CLDRM framework successfully performs damage recognition and classification with reasonable accuracy and effectiveness.

DecodingTrust-Agent Platform (DTap): A Controllable and Interactive Red-Teaming Platform for AI Agents

AI agents are increasingly deployed across diverse domains to automate complex workflows through long-horizon and high-stakes action executions. Due to their high capability and flexibility, such agents raise significant security and safety concerns. A growing number of real-world incidents have shown that adversaries can easily manipulate agents into performing harmful actions, such as leaking API keys, deleting user data, or initiating unauthorized transactions. Evaluating agent security is inherently challenging, as agents operate in dynamic, untrusted environments involving external tools, heterogeneous data sources, and frequent user interactions. However, realistic, controllable, and reproducible environments for large-scale risk assessment remain largely underexplored. To address this gap, we introduce the DecodingTrust-Agent Platform (DTap), the first controllable and interactive red-teaming platform for AI agents, spanning 14 real-world domains and over 50 simulation environments that replicate widely used systems such as Google Workspace, Paypal, and Slack. To scale the risk assessment of agents in DTap, we further propose DTap-Red, the first autonomous red-teaming agent that systematically explores diverse injection vectors (e.g., prompt, tool, skill, environment, combinations) and autonomously discovers effective attack strategies tailored to varying malicious goals. Using DTap-Red, we curate DTap-Bench, a large-scale red-teaming dataset comprising high-quality instances across domains, each paired with a verifiable judge to automatically validate attack outcomes. Through DTap, we conduct large-scale evaluations of popular AI agents built on various backbone models, spanning security policies, risk categories, and attack strategies, revealing systematic vulnerability patterns and providing valuable insights for developing secure next-generation agents.

Self-recoverable Adversarial Examples: A New Effective Protection Mechanism in Social Networks

Malicious intelligent algorithms greatly threaten the security of social users' privacy by detecting and analyzing the uploaded photos to social network platforms. The destruction to DNNs brought by the adversarial attack sparks the potential that adversarial examples serve as a new protection mechanism for privacy security in social networks. However, the existing adversarial example does not have recoverability for serving as an effective protection mechanism. To address this issue, we propose a recoverable generative adversarial network to generate self-recoverable adversarial examples. By modeling the adversarial attack and recovery as a united task, our method can minimize the error of the recovered examples while maximizing the attack ability, resulting in better recoverability of adversarial examples. To further boost the recoverability of these examples, we exploit a dimension reducer to optimize the distribution of adversarial perturbation. The experimental results prove that the adversarial examples generated by the proposed method present superior recoverability, attack ability, and robustness on different datasets and network architectures, which ensure its effectiveness as a protection mechanism in social networks.

Degeneracy is OK: Logarithmic Regret for Network Revenue Management with Indiscrete Distributions

We study the classical Network Revenue Management (NRM) problem with accept/reject decisions and $T$ IID arrivals. We consider a distributional form where each arrival must fall under a finite number of possible categories, each with a deterministic resource consumption vector, but a random value distributed continuously over an interval. We develop an online algorithm that achieves $O(\log^2 T)$ regret under this model, with the only (necessary) assumption being that the probability densities are bounded away from 0. We derive a second result that achieves $O(\log T)$ regret under an additional assumption of second-order growth. To our knowledge, these are the first results achieving logarithmic-level regret in an NRM model with continuous values that do not require any kind of "non-degeneracy" assumptions. Our results are achieved via new techniques including a new method of bounding myopic regret, a "semi-fluid" relaxation of the offline allocation, and an improved bound on the "dual convergence".

EIA: Environmental Injection Attack on Generalist Web Agents for Privacy Leakage

Generalist web agents have demonstrated remarkable potential in autonomously completing a wide range of tasks on real websites, significantly boosting human productivity. However, web tasks, such as booking flights, usually involve users' PII, which may be exposed to potential privacy risks if web agents accidentally interact with compromised websites, a scenario that remains largely unexplored in the literature. In this work, we narrow this gap by conducting the first study on the privacy risks of generalist web agents in adversarial environments. First, we present a realistic threat model for attacks on the website, where we consider two adversarial targets: stealing users' specific PII or the entire user request. Then, we propose a novel attack method, termed Environmental Injection Attack (EIA). EIA injects malicious content designed to adapt well to environments where the agents operate and our work instantiates EIA specifically for privacy scenarios in web environments. We collect 177 action steps that involve diverse PII categories on realistic websites from the Mind2Web, and conduct experiments using one of the most capable generalist web agent frameworks to date. The results demonstrate that EIA achieves up to 70% ASR in stealing specific PII and 16% ASR for full user request. Additionally, by accessing the stealthiness and experimenting with a defensive system prompt, we indicate that EIA is hard to detect and mitigate. Notably, attacks that are not well adapted for a webpage can be detected via human inspection, leading to our discussion about the trade-off between security and autonomy. However, extra attackers' efforts can make EIA seamlessly adapted, rendering such supervision ineffective. Thus, we further discuss the defenses at the pre- and post-deployment stages of the websites without relying on human supervision and call for more advanced defense strategies.

IP-Adapter Is All You Need: Towards Fine-Tuning-Free Diffusion-Based Talking Face Generation

With the rapid advancement of diffusion models, talking face generation has made remarkable progress. However, existing diffusion-based methods still require task-specific fine-tuning and large-scale audiovisual datasets, resulting in high computational costs that hinder scalability and accessibility of diffusion-based approaches across the research community. To address this, we propose a finetuning-free paradigm that directly performs talking face generation using the pretrained weights of Stable Diffusion and IP-Adapter. This backbone leverages the visual embedding capability of IP-Adapter to mine lip-related semantics from the pretrained Stable Diffusion. To address the challenges of identity drift, synchronization errors, and temporal instability, we also design three trainable-parameterfree components: (1) the Structurist, which explicitly disentangles and reassembles lip and appearance features to mitigate identity drift and appearance distortion; (2) the Structure Controller, which adaptively refines embeddings based on quasi-monotonic motion trends for precise lip synchronization; and (3) the Noise Sensor, which introduces Gaussian prior to detect and suppress flicker and jitter artifacts and enhance temporal consistency. Experimental results show that our method outperforms existing SOTA approaches in both lip-sync accuracy (at least 0.16 gain in PCLD) and visual fidelity (at least 0.7 improvement in FID), establishing a novel fine-tuning-free diffusion framework for talking face generation.

Self-Supervised Intensity-Event Stereo Matching

Event cameras are novel bio-inspired vision sensors that output pixel-level intensity changes in microsecond accuracy with a high dynamic range and low power consumption. Despite these advantages, event cameras cannot be directly applied to computational imaging tasks due to the inability to obtain high-quality intensity and events simultaneously. This paper aims to connect a standalone event camera and a modern intensity camera so that the applications can take advantage of both two sensors. We establish this connection through a multi-modal stereo matching task. We first convert events to a reconstructed image and extend the existing stereo networks to this multi-modality condition. We propose a self-supervised method to train the multi-modal stereo network without using ground truth disparity data. The structure loss calculated on image gradients is used to enable self-supervised learning on such multi-modal data. Exploiting the internal stereo constraint between views with different modalities, we introduce general stereo loss functions, including disparity cross-consistency loss and internal disparity loss, leading to improved performance and robustness compared to existing approaches. The experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, especially the proposed general stereo loss functions, on both synthetic and real datasets. At last, we shed light on employing the aligned events and intensity images in downstream tasks, e.g., video interpolation application.

SPEED: Streaming Partition and Parallel Acceleration for Temporal Interaction Graph Embedding

Temporal Interaction Graphs (TIGs) are widely employed to model intricate real-world systems such as financial systems and social networks. To capture the dynamism and interdependencies of nodes, existing TIG embedding models need to process edges sequentially and chronologically. However, this requirement prevents it from being processed in parallel and struggle to accommodate burgeoning data volumes to GPU. Consequently, many large-scale temporal interaction graphs are confined to CPU processing. Furthermore, a generalized GPU scaling and acceleration approach remains unavailable. To facilitate large-scale TIGs' implementation on GPUs for acceleration, we introduce a novel training approach namely Streaming Edge Partitioning and Parallel Acceleration for Temporal Interaction Graph Embedding (SPEED). The SPEED is comprised of a Streaming Edge Partitioning Component (SEP) which addresses space overhead issue by assigning fewer nodes to each GPU, and a Parallel Acceleration Component (PAC) which enables simultaneous training of different sub-graphs, addressing time overhead issue. Our method can achieve a good balance in computing resources, computing time, and downstream task performance. Empirical validation across 7 real-world datasets demonstrates the potential to expedite training speeds by a factor of up to 19.29x. Simultaneously, resource consumption of a single-GPU can be diminished by up to 69%, thus enabling the multiple GPU-based training and acceleration encompassing millions of nodes and billions of edges. Furthermore, our approach also maintains its competitiveness in downstream tasks.

Chat-REC: Towards Interactive and Explainable LLMs-Augmented Recommender System

Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated their significant potential to be applied for addressing various application tasks. However, traditional recommender systems continue to face great challenges such as poor interactivity and explainability, which actually also hinder their broad deployment in real-world systems. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a novel paradigm called Chat-Rec (ChatGPT Augmented Recommender System) that innovatively augments LLMs for building conversational recommender systems by converting user profiles and historical interactions into prompts. Chat-Rec is demonstrated to be effective in learning user preferences and establishing connections between users and products through in-context learning, which also makes the recommendation process more interactive and explainable. What's more, within the Chat-Rec framework, user's preferences can transfer to different products for cross-domain recommendations, and prompt-based injection of information into LLMs can also handle the cold-start scenarios with new items. In our experiments, Chat-Rec effectively improve the results of top-k recommendations and performs better in zero-shot rating prediction task. Chat-Rec offers a novel approach to improving recommender systems and presents new practical scenarios for the implementation of AIGC (AI generated content) in recommender system studies.

iLoRE: Dynamic Graph Representation with Instant Long-term Modeling and Re-occurrence Preservation

Continuous-time dynamic graph modeling is a crucial task for many real-world applications, such as financial risk management and fraud detection. Though existing dynamic graph modeling methods have achieved satisfactory results, they still suffer from three key limitations, hindering their scalability and further applicability. i) Indiscriminate updating. For incoming edges, existing methods would indiscriminately deal with them, which may lead to more time consumption and unexpected noisy information. ii) Ineffective node-wise long-term modeling. They heavily rely on recurrent neural networks (RNNs) as a backbone, which has been demonstrated to be incapable of fully capturing node-wise long-term dependencies in event sequences. iii) Neglect of re-occurrence patterns. Dynamic graphs involve the repeated occurrence of neighbors that indicates their importance, which is disappointedly neglected by existing methods. In this paper, we present iLoRE, a novel dynamic graph modeling method with instant node-wise Long-term modeling and Re-occurrence preservation. To overcome the indiscriminate updating issue, we introduce the Adaptive Short-term Updater module that will automatically discard the useless or noisy edges, ensuring iLoRE's effectiveness and instant ability. We further propose the Long-term Updater to realize more effective node-wise long-term modeling, where we innovatively propose the Identity Attention mechanism to empower a Transformer-based updater, bypassing the limited effectiveness of typical RNN-dominated designs. Finally, the crucial re-occurrence patterns are also encoded into a graph module for informative representation learning, which will further improve the expressiveness of our method. Our experimental results on real-world datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our iLoRE for dynamic graph modeling.

Stage-wise Distortion-Perception Traversal in Zero-shot Inverse Problems with Diffusion Models

The distortion-perception (D-P) tradeoff is a fundamental phenomenon of Bayesian inverse problems, which characterizes the inherent tension between distortion performance and perceptual quality. Enabling flexible traversal of the D-P tradeoff at inference time is crucial for practical applications. Despite the recent success of diffusion models in zero-shot inverse problem solving, efficient and principled strategies for D-P traversal in diffusion-based inverse algorithms remain inadequately characterized. In this paper, we propose a stage-wise framework for realizing D-P traversal using a single diffusion model in zero-shot inverse problems. Our proposed method, termed MAP-RPS, starts with an MAP estimation stage that approximates the MMSE solution and provides a low-distortion initialization, followed by a re-noised posterior sampling stage that progressively improves perceptual quality. We provide theoretical analyses for both stages, establishing the validity and effectiveness of the proposed design. Furthermore, we extend MAP-RPS to the latent space, yielding LMAP-RPS, which enjoys broader applicability by leveraging large-scale pre-trained latent diffusion backbones. Extensive experiments demonstrate that MAP-RPS and LMAP-RPS enable more effective D-P traversal on various tasks, while also exhibiting strong performance as efficient solvers for real-world inverse problems.

Efficient Training of Large Vision Models via Advanced Automated Progressive Learning

The rapid advancements in Large Vision Models (LVMs), such as Vision Transformers (ViTs) and diffusion models, have led to an increasing demand for computational resources, resulting in substantial financial and environmental costs. This growing challenge highlights the necessity of developing efficient training methods for LVMs. Progressive learning, a training strategy in which model capacity gradually increases during training, has shown potential in addressing these challenges. In this paper, we present an advanced automated progressive learning (AutoProg) framework for efficient training of LVMs. We begin by focusing on the pre-training of LVMs, using ViTs as a case study, and propose AutoProg-One, an AutoProg scheme featuring momentum growth (MoGrow) and a one-shot growth schedule search. Beyond pre-training, we extend our approach to tackle transfer learning and fine-tuning of LVMs. We expand the scope of AutoProg to cover a wider range of LVMs, including diffusion models. First, we introduce AutoProg-Zero, by enhancing the AutoProg framework with a novel zero-shot unfreezing schedule search, eliminating the need for one-shot supernet training. Second, we introduce a novel Unique Stage Identifier (SID) scheme to bridge the gap during network growth. These innovations, integrated with the core principles of AutoProg, offer a comprehensive solution for efficient training across various LVM scenarios. Extensive experiments show that AutoProg accelerates ViT pre-training by up to 1.85x on ImageNet and accelerates fine-tuning of diffusion models by up to 2.86x, with comparable or even higher performance. SPEGC: Continual Test-Time Adaptation via Semantic-Prompt-Enhanced Graph Clustering for Medical Image Segmentation

In medical image segmentation tasks, the domain gap caused by the difference in data collection between training and testing data seriously hinders the deployment of pre-trained models in clinical practice. Continual Test-Time Adaptation (CTTA) aims to enable pre-trained models to adapt to continuously changing unlabeled domains, providing an effective approach to solving this problem. However, existing CTTA methods often rely on unreliable supervisory signals, igniting a self-reinforcing cycle of error accumulation that culminates in catastrophic performance degradation. To overcome these challenges, we propose a CTTA via Semantic-Prompt-Enhanced Graph Clustering (SPEGC) for medical image segmentation. First, we design a semantic prompt feature enhancement mechanism that utilizes decoupled commonality and heterogeneity prompt pools to inject global contextual information into local features, alleviating their susceptibility to noise interference under domain shift. Second, based on these enhanced features, we design a differentiable graph clustering solver. This solver reframes global edge sparsification as an optimal transport problem, allowing it to distill a raw similarity matrix into a refined and high-order structural representation in an end-to-end manner. Finally, this robust structural representation is used to guide model adaptation, ensuring predictions are consistent at a cluster-level and dynamically adjusting decision boundaries. Extensive experiments demonstrate that SPEGC outperforms other state-of-the-art CTTA methods on two medical image segmentation benchmarks. Coordinating CAV Swarms at Intersections with a Deep Learning Model

Connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) are viewed as a special kind of robots that have the potential to significantly improve the safety and efficiency of traffic. In contrast to many swarm robotics studies that are demonstrated in labs by employing a small number of robots, CAV studies aims to achieve cooperative driving of unceasing robot swarm flows. However, how to get the optimal passing order of such robot swarm flows even for a signal-free intersection is an NP-hard problem (specifically, enumerating based algorithm takes days to find the optimal solution to a 20-CAV scenario). Here, we introduce a novel cooperative driving algorithm (AlphaOrder) that combines offline deep learning and online tree searching to find a near-optimal passing order in real-time. AlphaOrder builds a pointer network model from solved scenarios and generates near-optimal passing orders instantaneously for new scenarios. Furthermore, our approach provides a general approach to managing preemptive resource sharing between swarm robotics (e.g., scheduling multiple automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at conflicting areas

DiffRetouch: Using Diffusion to Retouch on the Shoulder of Experts

Image retouching aims to enhance the visual quality of photos. Considering the different aesthetic preferences of users, the target of retouching is subjective. However, current retouching methods mostly adopt deterministic models, which not only neglects the style diversity in the expert-retouched results and tends to learn an average style during training, but also lacks sample diversity during inference. In this paper, we propose a diffusion-based method, named DiffRetouch. Thanks to the excellent distribution modeling ability of diffusion, our method can capture the complex fine-retouched distribution covering various visual-pleasing styles in the training data. Moreover, four image attributes are made adjustable to provide a user-friendly editing mechanism. By adjusting these attributes in specified ranges, users are allowed to customize preferred styles within the learned fine-retouched distribution. Additionally, the affine bilateral grid and contrastive learning scheme are introduced to handle the problem of texture distortion and control insensitivity respectively. Extensive experiments have demonstrated the superior performance of our method on visually appealing and sample diversity. The code will be made available to the community.

Extractive Summarization via ChatGPT for Faithful Summary Generation

Extractive summarization is a crucial task in natural language processing that aims to condense long documents into shorter versions by directly extracting sentences. The recent introduction of large language models has attracted significant interest in the NLP community due to its remarkable performance on a wide range of downstream tasks. This paper first presents a thorough evaluation of ChatGPT's performance on extractive summarization and compares it with traditional fine-tuning methods on various benchmark datasets. Our experimental analysis reveals that ChatGPT exhibits inferior extractive summarization performance in terms of ROUGE scores compared to existing supervised systems, while achieving higher performance based on LLM-based evaluation metrics. In addition, we explore the effectiveness of in-context learning and chain-of-thought reasoning for enhancing its performance. Furthermore, we find that applying an extract-then-generate pipeline with ChatGPT yields significant performance improvements over abstractive baselines in terms of summary faithfulness. These observations highlight potential directions for enhancing ChatGPT's capabilities in faithful summarization using two-stage approaches.

Building an Atlas of Social Experiments to Link Studies, Reconcile Conflicts, and Bridge Gaps

Social and behavioral science runs thousands of experiments each year, yet their findings rarely accumulate into a coherent map of what is known, what conflicts, and what remains missing. We introduce ExAtlas, a framework for turning an archive of experiments into an atlas: a structured map in which studies link, conflict, or leave bridgeable gaps. Given a target study, ExAtlas searches for prior studies that are locally close in treatment and outcome space and asks whether their observed effects can be composed to predict the target effect. This yields three cases. If the composition succeeds and agrees with the observed result, ExAtlas links the target to consistent prior evidence. If composition succeeds but disagrees, ExAtlas reconciles the conflict and proposes candidate moderators or higher-level theories that could explain it. If composition fails, ExAtlas proposes bridge experiments to close the gap. We provide an error bound for composition under local smoothness of the treatment-effect surface. On held-out targets certified as locally supported, ExAtlas recovers effect direction in 98.6% of cases. Human evaluations further suggest that its proposed bridge experiments are plausible and exhibit connectedness, and that its conflict explanations are useful for theory generation. These results suggest that the archive of social experiments contains more latent structure than current practice extracts -- and that making this structure explicit can guide both future theory and future experimentation.

TCBiRRT: Rapid Motion Planning for Tightly Coupled Dual-arm Space Manipulator Using Task-space Random Expansion

Planning the motion path for a tightly coupled dual-arm space manipulator under closed-chain constraints is a fundamental yet challenging problem in on-orbit assembly of large-scale space structures. The closed-chain constraints significantly reduce the feasible configuration space, making it difficult for existing planners to efficiently generate collision-free motions, especially in cluttered environments. To address this issue, this paper proposes a task-space constrained bidirectional rapidly-exploring random tree algorithm, termed TCBiRRT. Unlike conventional methods that operate in the high-dimensional configuration space, the proposed approach performs random sampling and node expansion directly in the task space defined by the manipulated object pose. A task-space node expansion strategy is developed to generate candidate object motions, which are then mapped to continuous joint paths using a path inverse kinematics algorithm. The method is further integrated with a bidirectional RRT framework and a regrasp mechanism to efficiently connect two random trees. Extensive simulations are conducted in representative on-orbit assembly scenarios with varying levels of environmental complexity. The results demonstrate that TCBiRRT achieves significantly higher success rates and orders-of-magnitude improvements in planning time compared to state-of-the-art planners. The proposed method provides an efficient and robust solution for motion planning of tightly coupled dual-arm space manipulators.

VPNets: Volume-preserving neural networks for learning source-free dynamics

We propose volume-preserving networks (VPNets) for learning unknown source-free dynamical systems using trajectory data. We propose three modules and combine them to obtain two network architectures, coined R-VPNet and LA-VPNet. The distinct feature of the proposed models is that they are intrinsic volume-preserving. In addition, the corresponding approximation theorems are proved, which theoretically guarantee the expressivity of the proposed VPNets to learn source-free dynamics. The effectiveness, generalization ability and structure-preserving property of the VP-Nets are demonstrated by numerical experiments.

Synthetic American Option Pricing via Jump-HMM-Driven Heston Implied Volatility

Generating realistic synthetic option prices requires implied volatility as an input, yet implied volatility is itself derived from observed option prices, creating a circular dependency that limits synthetic data for machine-learning and risk-analysis applications. We break this circularity with a pipeline in which implied volatility emerges as an output of a structural model of equity returns. A Jump Hidden Markov Model produces multi-asset price paths with realistic stylized facts and cross-asset tail dependence; a modified Heston variance process, whose mean-reversion target depends on regime state, days to expiration, moneyness, and a market-mood indicator, converts those paths into implied-volatility paths; and a recombining binomial lattice prices American options from the resulting surface. Initializing variance at its mean-reversion target for each strike-expiration pair lets smile, skew, and term structure emerge without external calibration. We calibrate the shape function through a hierarchy spanning a parametric baseline, a globally shared neural surrogate, and a sector-specific neural surrogate fit to a multi-ticker, multi-sector option ladder. A temporal holdout on a multi-day capture isolated scheduled corporate events as the dominant source of test-time generalization error, and calendar-derived earnings-distance and same-sector peer-coupling features recovered the anticipatory portion of that signal. We then apply the framework as a synthetic-data generator on real near-the-money put and call contracts, forward-simulating price paths, and recovering path-conditional implied volatility, finite-difference American Greeks, and terminal short-premium profit and loss from one coherent simulation, and confirm cross-ticker robustness by re-running on a second underlying from a different sector and volatility regime. The framework is released as an open-source Julia package.

A Health Monitoring System Based on Flexible Triboelectric Sensors for Intelligence Medical Internet of Things and its Applications in Virtual Reality

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is a platform that combines Internet of Things (IoT) technology with medical applications, enabling the realization of precision medicine, intelligent healthcare, and telemedicine in the era of digitalization and intelligence. However, the IoMT faces various challenges, including sustainable power supply, human adaptability of sensors and the intelligence of sensors. In this study, we designed a robust and intelligent IoMT system through the synergistic integration of flexible wearable triboelectric sensors and deep learning-assisted data analytics. We embedded four triboelectric sensors into a wristband to detect and analyze limb movements in patients suffering from Parkinson's Disease (PD). By further integrating deep learning-assisted data analytics, we actualized an intelligent healthcare monitoring system for the surveillance and interaction of PD patients, which includes location/trajectory tracking, heart monitoring and identity recognition. This innovative approach enabled us to accurately capture and scrutinize the subtle movements and fine motor of PD patients, thus providing insightful feedback and comprehensive assessment of the patients conditions. This monitoring system is cost-effective, easily fabricated, highly sensitive, and intelligent, consequently underscores the immense potential of human body sensing technology in a Health 4.0 society.

HEGEL: Hypergraph Transformer for Long Document Summarization

Extractive summarization for long documents is challenging due to the extended structured input context. The long-distance sentence dependency hinders cross-sentence relations modeling, the critical step of extractive summarization. This paper proposes HEGEL, a hypergraph neural network for long document summarization by capturing high-order cross-sentence relations. HEGEL updates and learns effective sentence representations with hypergraph transformer layers and fuses different types of sentence dependencies, including latent topics, keywords coreference, and section structure. We validate HEGEL by conducting extensive experiments on two benchmark datasets, and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of HEGEL.

Towards a Universal Causal Reasoner

Despite the importance of causal reasoning, training LLMs to reason causally remains underexplored. Existing data efforts mostly focus on benchmarking LLMs on specific aspects of causality, making them less suitable for training generalizable causal reasoners. To address this, we propose UniCo, a data generation framework that both (1) addresses 18 causal query types across Pearl's Causal Ladder and (2) translates natively symbolic examples into code and natural language forms to simulate real-world use cases where causal terms are not explicitly specified. To ensure data quality, UniCo grounds answers with exact causal inference and filters cases with reasoning shortcuts. Upon supervised finetuning with 66.6K UniCo-generated instances, Qwen3-4B, Qwen3-8B and Olmo-3-7B-Instruct achieve an average of 22.9% improvements across all 18 in-distribution query types, and 8.1% over state-of-the-art causal data generation frameworks on 7 established causal benchmarks outside the training distribution. More importantly, in real-world medical understanding, legal decision, and tabular reasoning, UniCo-trained models consistently display more faithful reasoning traces, outperforming the base models by an average of 20.2% in faithfulness metrics. These suggest that causality-centered training not only strengthens causal reasoning, but also equips LLMs with a causal mindset in general reasoning tasks.

Graph-ToolFormer: To Empower LLMs with Graph Reasoning Ability via Prompt Augmented by ChatGPT

In this paper, we aim to develop a large language model (LLM) with the reasoning ability on complex graph data. Currently, LLMs have achieved very impressive performance on various natural language learning tasks, extensions of which have also been applied to study the vision tasks with multi-modal data. However, when it comes to the graph learning tasks, existing LLMs present very serious flaws due to their several inherited weaknesses in performing {multi-step logic reasoning}, {precise mathematical calculation} and {perception about the spatial and temporal factors}. To address such challenges, in this paper, we will investigate the principles, methodologies and algorithms to empower existing LLMs with graph reasoning ability, which will have tremendous impacts on the current research of both LLMs and graph learning. Inspired by the latest ChatGPT and Toolformer models, we propose the Graph-ToolFormer (Graph Reasoning oriented Toolformer) framework to teach LLMs themselves with prompts augmented by ChatGPT to use external graph reasoning API tools. Specifically, we will investigate to teach Graph-ToolFormer to handle various graph data reasoning tasks in this paper, including both (1) very basic graph data loading and graph property reasoning tasks, ranging from simple graph order and size to the graph diameter and periphery, and (2) more advanced reasoning tasks on real-world graph data, such as bibliographic networks, protein molecules, sequential recommender systems, social networks and knowledge graphs.

Graph Chain-of-Thought: Augmenting Large Language Models by Reasoning on Graphs

Large language models (LLMs), while exhibiting exceptional performance, suffer from hallucinations, especially on knowledge-intensive tasks. Existing works propose to augment LLMs with individual text units retrieved from external knowledge corpora to alleviate the issue. However, in many domains, texts are interconnected (e.g., academic papers in a bibliographic graph are linked by citations and co-authorships) which form a (text-attributed) graph. The knowledge in such graphs is encoded not only in single texts/nodes but also in their associated connections. To facilitate the research of augmenting LLMs with graphs, we manually construct a Graph Reasoning Benchmark dataset called GRBench, containing 1,740 questions that can be answered with the knowledge from 10 domain graphs. Then, we propose a simple and effective framework called Graph Chain-of-thought (Graph-CoT) to augment LLMs with graphs by encouraging LLMs to reason on the graph iteratively. Each Graph-CoT iteration consists of three sub-steps: LLM reasoning, LLM-graph interaction, and graph execution. We conduct systematic experiments with three LLM backbones on GRBench, where Graph-CoT outperforms the baselines consistently. The code is available at https://github.com/PeterGriffinJin/Graph-CoT.

TTSA3R: Training-Free Temporal-Spatial Adaptive Persistent State for Streaming 3D Reconstruction

Streaming recurrent models enable efficient 3D reconstruction by maintaining persistent state representations. However, they suffer from catastrophic forgetting over long sequences due to balancing historical information with new observations. Recent methods alleviate this by deriving adaptive signals from attention perspective, but they operate on single dimensions without considering temporal and spatial consistency. To this end, we propose a training-free framework termed TTSA3R that leverages both temporal state evolution and spatial observation quality for adaptive state updates in 3D reconstruction. In particular, we devise a Temporal Adaptive Update Module that regulates update magnitude by analyzing temporal state evolution patterns. Then, a Spatial Contextual Update Module is introduced to localize spatial regions that require updates through observation-state alignment and scene dynamics. These complementary signals are finally fused to determine the state updating strategies. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of TTSA3R in diverse 3D tasks. Moreover, our method exhibits only 1.33x error increase compared to over 4x degradation in the baseline model on extended sequences of 3D reconstruction, significantly improving long-term reconstruction stability. Lens: Rethinking Training Efficiency for Foundational Text-to-Image Models

We introduce Lens, a 3.8B-parameter T2I model that achieves performance competitive with, and in several cases surpassing, state-of-the-art models with more than 6B parameters across various benchmarks, while requiring significantly less training compute. For example, Lens requires only about 19.3% of the training compute used by Z-Image. The training efficiency of Lens stems from two key strategies beyond its compact model size. First, we maximize data information density per training batch by (i) training on Lens-800M, a dataset of 800M densely captioned image-text pairs whose captions are generated by GPT-4.1 and contain approximately 109 words on average, providing richer semantic supervision than conventional short captions, and (ii) constructing each batch from images with multiple resolutions and diverse aspect ratios, thereby enlarging the effective visual coverage of each optimization step. Second, we improve convergence speed through careful architectural choices, including adopting a semantic VAE that provides better latent representations and employing a strong language encoder that accelerates optimization while enabling multilingual generalization from English-only training data. After pre-training, we apply RL with taxonomy-driven prompts (Lens-RL-8K) and structured reward rubrics to suppress artifacts and improve visual quality, a reasoner module with training-free system prompt search to better align user requests with the model, and distillation-based acceleration for 4-step inference. Through efficient training and systematic optimization, Lens generalizes to arbitrary aspect ratios from 1:2 to 2:1 and resolutions up to 1440^2, and supports prompts in several commonly used languages. Thanks to its compact size, Lens generates a 1024^2 image in 3.15 seconds on a single NVIDIA H100 GPU, while its distilled turbo version performs 4-step generation in 0.84 seconds.
