Video Face Re-Aging: Toward Temporally Consistent Face Re-Aging

Abdul Muqeet, Kyuchul Lee, Bumsoo Kim et al.

Video face re-aging deals with altering the apparent age of a person to the target age in videos. This problem is challenging due to the lack of paired video datasets maintaining temporal consistency in identity and age. Most re-aging methods process each image individually without considering the temporal consistency of videos. While some existing works address the issue of temporal coherence through video facial attribute manipulation in latent space, they often fail to deliver satisfactory performance in age transformation. To tackle the issues, we propose (1) a novel synthetic video dataset that features subjects across a diverse range of age groups; (2) a baseline architecture designed to validate the effectiveness of our proposed dataset, and (3) the development of novel metrics tailored explicitly for evaluating the temporal consistency of video re-aging techniques. Our comprehensive experiments on public datasets, including VFHQ and CelebA-HQ, show that our method outperforms existing approaches in age transformation accuracy and temporal consistency. Notably, in user studies, our method was preferred for temporal consistency by 48.1\% of participants for the older direction and by 39.3\% for the younger direction.

Expediting Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining via Self-distilled Encoders

Bumsoo Kim, Jinhyung Kim, Yeonsik Jo et al.

Recent advances in vision language pretraining (VLP) have been largely attributed to the large-scale data collected from the web. However, uncurated dataset contains weakly correlated image-text pairs, causing data inefficiency. To address the issue, knowledge distillation have been explored at the expense of extra image and text momentum encoders to generate teaching signals for misaligned image-text pairs. In this paper, our goal is to resolve the misalignment problem with an efficient distillation framework. To this end, we propose ECLIPSE: Expediting Contrastive Language-Image Pretraining with Self-distilled Encoders. ECLIPSE features a distinctive distillation architecture wherein a shared text encoder is utilized between an online image encoder and a momentum image encoder. This strategic design choice enables the distillation to operate within a unified projected space of text embedding, resulting in better performance. Based on the unified text embedding space, ECLIPSE compensates for the additional computational cost of the momentum image encoder by expediting the online image encoder. Through our extensive experiments, we validate that there is a sweet spot between expedition and distillation where the partial view from the expedited online image encoder interacts complementarily with the momentum teacher. As a result, ECLIPSE outperforms its counterparts while achieving substantial acceleration in inference speed.

Minecraft-ify: Minecraft Style Image Generation with Text-guided Image Editing for In-Game Application

Bumsoo Kim, Sanghyun Byun, Yonghoon Jung et al.

In this paper, we first present the character texture generation system \textit{Minecraft-ify}, specified to Minecraft video game toward in-game application. Ours can generate face-focused image for texture mapping tailored to 3D virtual character having cube manifold. While existing projects or works only generate texture, proposed system can inverse the user-provided real image, or generate average/random appearance from learned distribution. Moreover, it can be manipulated with text-guidance using StyleGAN and StyleCLIP. These features provide a more extended user experience with enlarged freedom as a user-friendly AI-tool. ImagePiece: Content-aware Re-tokenization for Efficient Image Recognition

Seungdong Yoa, Seungjun Lee, Hyeseung Cho et al.

Vision Transformers (ViTs) have achieved remarkable success in various computer vision tasks. However, ViTs have a huge computational cost due to their inherent reliance on multi-head self-attention (MHSA), prompting efforts to accelerate ViTs for practical applications. To this end, recent works aim to reduce the number of tokens, mainly focusing on how to effectively prune or merge them. Nevertheless, since ViT tokens are generated from non-overlapping grid patches, they usually do not convey sufficient semantics, making it incompatible with efficient ViTs. To address this, we propose ImagePiece, a novel re-tokenization strategy for Vision Transformers. Following the MaxMatch strategy of NLP tokenization, ImagePiece groups semantically insufficient yet locally coherent tokens until they convey meaning. This simple retokenization is highly compatible with previous token reduction methods, being able to drastically narrow down relevant tokens, enhancing the inference speed of DeiT-S by 54% (nearly 1.5$\times$ faster) while achieving a 0.39% improvement in ImageNet classification accuracy. For hyper-speed inference scenarios (with 251% acceleration), our approach surpasses other baselines by an accuracy over 8%.

Make VLM Recognize Visual Hallucination on Cartoon Character Image with Pose Information

Bumsoo Kim, Wonseop Shin, Kyuchul Lee et al.

Leveraging large-scale Text-to-Image (TTI) models have become a common technique for generating exemplar or training dataset in the fields of image synthesis, video editing, 3D reconstruction. However, semantic structural visual hallucinations involving perceptually severe defects remain a concern, especially in the domain of non-photorealistic rendering (NPR) such as cartoons and pixelization-style character. To detect these hallucinations in NPR, We propose a novel semantic structural hallucination detection system using Vision-Language Model (VLM). Our approach is to leverage the emerging capability of large language model, in-context learning which denotes that VLM has seen some examples by user for specific downstream task, here hallucination detection. Based on in-context learning, we introduce pose-aware in-context visual learning (PA-ICVL) which improve the overall performance of VLM by further inputting visual data beyond prompts, RGB images and pose information. By incorporating pose guidance, we enable VLMs to make more accurate decisions. Experimental results demonstrate significant improvements in identifying visual hallucinations compared to baseline methods relying solely on RGB images. Within selected two VLMs, GPT-4v, Gemini pro vision, our proposed PA-ICVL improves the hallucination detection with 50% to 78%, 57% to 80%, respectively. This research advances a capability of TTI models toward real-world applications by mitigating visual hallucinations via in-context visual learning, expanding their potential in non-photorealistic domains. In addition, it showcase how users can boost the downstream-specialized capability of open VLM by harnessing additional conditions. We collect synthetic cartoon-hallucination dataset with TTI models, this dataset and final tuned VLM will be publicly available.
