Self-supervised Multi-view Clustering in Computer Vision: A SurveyJiatai Wang, Zhiwei Xu, Xuewen Yang et al.
Multi-view clustering (MVC) has had significant implications in cross-modal representation learning and data-driven decision-making in recent years. It accomplishes this by leveraging the consistency and complementary information among multiple views to cluster samples into distinct groups. However, as contrastive learning continues to evolve within the field of computer vision, self-supervised learning has also made substantial research progress and is progressively becoming dominant in MVC methods. It guides the clustering process by designing proxy tasks to mine the representation of image and video data itself as supervisory information. Despite the rapid development of self-supervised MVC, there has yet to be a comprehensive survey to analyze and summarize the current state of research progress. Therefore, this paper explores the reasons and advantages of the emergence of self-supervised MVC and discusses the internal connections and classifications of common datasets, data issues, representation learning methods, and self-supervised learning methods. This paper does not only introduce the mechanisms for each category of methods but also gives a few examples of how these techniques are used. In the end, some open problems are pointed out for further investigation and development.

Reproducible White Matter Tract Segmentation Using 3D U-Net on a Large-scale DTI DatasetBo Li, Marius de Groot, Meike Vernooij et al.
Tract-specific diffusion measures, as derived from brain diffusion MRI, have been linked to white matter tract structural integrity and neurodegeneration. As a consequence, there is a large interest in the automatic segmentation of white matter tract in diffusion tensor MRI data. Methods based on the tractography are popular for white matter tract segmentation. However, because of the limited consistency and long processing time, such methods may not be suitable for clinical practice. We therefore developed a novel convolutional neural network based method to directly segment white matter tract trained on a low-resolution dataset of 9149 DTI images. The method is optimized on input, loss function and network architecture selections. We evaluated both segmentation accuracy and reproducibility, and reproducibility of determining tract-specific diffusion measures. The reproducibility of the method is higher than that of the reference standard and the determined diffusion measures are consistent. Therefore, we expect our method to be applicable in clinical practice and in longitudinal analysis of white matter microstructure.

Environmental Sound Classification Based on Multi-temporal Resolution Convolutional Neural Network Combining with Multi-level FeaturesBoqing Zhu, Kele Xu, Dezhi Wang et al.
Motivated by the fact that characteristics of different sound classes are highly diverse in different temporal scales and hierarchical levels, a novel deep convolutional neural network (CNN) architecture is proposed for the environmental sound classification task. This network architecture takes raw waveforms as input, and a set of separated parallel CNNs are utilized with different convolutional filter sizes and strides, in order to learn feature representations with multi-temporal resolutions. On the other hand, the proposed architecture also aggregates hierarchical features from multi-level CNN layers for classification using direct connections between convolutional layers, which is beyond the typical single-level CNN features employed by the majority of previous studies. This network architecture also improves the flow of information and avoids vanishing gradient problem. The combination of multi-level features boosts the classification performance significantly. Comparative experiments are conducted on two datasets: the environmental sound classification dataset (ESC-50), and DCASE 2017 audio scene classification dataset. Results demonstrate that the proposed method is highly effective in the classification tasks by employing multi-temporal resolution and multi-level features, and it outperforms the previous methods which only account for single-level features.

Learning And-Or Models to Represent Context and Occlusion for Car Detection and Viewpoint EstimationTianfu Wu, Bo Li, Song-Chun Zhu
This paper presents a method for learning And-Or models to represent context and occlusion for car detection and viewpoint estimation. The learned And-Or model represents car-to-car context and occlusion configurations at three levels: (i) spatially-aligned cars, (ii) single car under different occlusion configurations, and (iii) a small number of parts. The And-Or model embeds a grammar for representing large structural and appearance variations in a reconfigurable hierarchy. The learning process consists of two stages in a weakly supervised way (i.e., only bounding boxes of single cars are annotated). Firstly, the structure of the And-Or model is learned with three components: (a) mining multi-car contextual patterns based on layouts of annotated single car bounding boxes, (b) mining occlusion configurations between single cars, and (c) learning different combinations of part visibility based on car 3D CAD simulation. The And-Or model is organized in a directed and acyclic graph which can be inferred by Dynamic Programming. Secondly, the model parameters (for appearance, deformation and bias) are jointly trained using Weak-Label Structural SVM. In experiments, we test our model on four car detection datasets --- the KITTI dataset \cite{Geiger12}, the PASCAL VOC2007 car dataset~\cite{pascal}, and two self-collected car datasets, namely the Street-Parking car dataset and the Parking-Lot car dataset, and three datasets for car viewpoint estimation --- the PASCAL VOC2006 car dataset~\cite{pascal}, the 3D car dataset~\cite{savarese}, and the PASCAL3D+ car dataset~\cite{xiang_wacv14}. Compared with state-of-the-art variants of deformable part-based models and other methods, our model achieves significant improvement consistently on the four detection datasets, and comparable performance on car viewpoint estimation.
