Perceptual Quality Assessment of Omnidirectional Audio-visual SignalsXilei Zhu, Huiyu Duan, Yuqin Cao et al.
Omnidirectional videos (ODVs) play an increasingly important role in the application fields of medical, education, advertising, tourism, etc. Assessing the quality of ODVs is significant for service-providers to improve the user's Quality of Experience (QoE). However, most existing quality assessment studies for ODVs only focus on the visual distortions of videos, while ignoring that the overall QoE also depends on the accompanying audio signals. In this paper, we first establish a large-scale audio-visual quality assessment dataset for omnidirectional videos, which includes 375 distorted omnidirectional audio-visual (A/V) sequences generated from 15 high-quality pristine omnidirectional A/V contents, and the corresponding perceptual audio-visual quality scores. Then, we design three baseline methods for full-reference omnidirectional audio-visual quality assessment (OAVQA), which combine existing state-of-the-art single-mode audio and video QA models via multimodal fusion strategies. We validate the effectiveness of the A/V multimodal fusion method for OAVQA on our dataset, which provides a new benchmark for omnidirectional QoE evaluation. Saliency in Augmented RealityHuiyu Duan, Wei Shen, Xiongkuo Min et al.
With the rapid development of multimedia technology, Augmented Reality (AR) has become a promising next-generation mobile platform. The primary theory underlying AR is human visual confusion, which allows users to perceive the real-world scenes and augmented contents (virtual-world scenes) simultaneously by superimposing them together. To achieve good Quality of Experience (QoE), it is important to understand the interaction between two scenarios, and harmoniously display AR contents. However, studies on how this superimposition will influence the human visual attention are lacking. Therefore, in this paper, we mainly analyze the interaction effect between background (BG) scenes and AR contents, and study the saliency prediction problem in AR. Specifically, we first construct a Saliency in AR Dataset (SARD), which contains 450 BG images, 450 AR images, as well as 1350 superimposed images generated by superimposing BG and AR images in pair with three mixing levels. A large-scale eye-tracking experiment among 60 subjects is conducted to collect eye movement data. To better predict the saliency in AR, we propose a vector quantized saliency prediction method and generalize it for AR saliency prediction. For comparison, three benchmark methods are proposed and evaluated together with our proposed method on our SARD. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our proposed method on both of the common saliency prediction problem and the AR saliency prediction problem over benchmark methods. ESIQA: Perceptual Quality Assessment of Vision-Pro-based Egocentric Spatial ImagesXilei Zhu, Liu Yang, Huiyu Duan et al.
With the development of eXtended Reality (XR), photo capturing and display technology based on head-mounted displays (HMDs) have experienced significant advancements and gained considerable attention. Egocentric spatial images and videos are emerging as a compelling form of stereoscopic XR content. The assessment for the Quality of Experience (QoE) of XR content is important to ensure a high-quality viewing experience. Different from traditional 2D images, egocentric spatial images present challenges for perceptual quality assessment due to their special shooting, processing methods, and stereoscopic characteristics. However, the corresponding image quality assessment (IQA) research for egocentric spatial images is still lacking. In this paper, we establish the Egocentric Spatial Images Quality Assessment Database (ESIQAD), the first IQA database dedicated for egocentric spatial images as far as we know. Our ESIQAD includes 500 egocentric spatial images and the corresponding mean opinion scores (MOSs) under three display modes, including 2D display, 3D-window display, and 3D-immersive display. Based on our ESIQAD, we propose a novel mamba2-based multi-stage feature fusion model, termed ESIQAnet, which predicts the perceptual quality of egocentric spatial images under the three display modes. Specifically, we first extract features from multiple visual state space duality (VSSD) blocks, then apply cross attention to fuse binocular view information and use transposed attention to further refine the features. The multi-stage features are finally concatenated and fed into a quality regression network to predict the quality score. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the ESIQAnet outperforms 22 state-of-the-art IQA models on the ESIQAD under all three display modes. EditHF-1M: A Million-Scale Rich Human Preference Feedback for Image EditingZitong Xu, Huiyu Duan, Zhongpeng Ji et al.
Recent text-guided image editing (TIE) models have achieved remarkable progress, while many edited images still suffer from issues such as artifacts, unexpected editings, unaesthetic contents. Although some benchmarks and methods have been proposed for evaluating edited images, scalable evaluation models are still lacking, which limits the development of human feedback reward models for image editing. To address the challenges, we first introduce \textbf{EditHF-1M}, a million-scale image editing dataset with over 29M human preference pairs and 148K human mean opinion ratings, both evaluated from three dimensions, \textit{i.e.}, visual quality, instruction alignment, and attribute preservation. Based on EditHF-1M, we propose \textbf{EditHF}, a multimodal large language model (MLLM) based evaluation model, to provide human-aligned feedback from image editing. Finally, we introduce \textbf{EditHF-Reward}, which utilizes EditHF as the reward signal to optimize the text-guided image editing models through reinforcement learning. Extensive experiments show that EditHF achieves superior alignment with human preferences and demonstrates strong generalization on other datasets. Furthermore, we fine-tune the Qwen-Image-Edit using EditHF-Reward, achieving significant performance improvements, which demonstrates the ability of EditHF to serve as a reward model to scale-up the image editing. Perceptual Quality Assessment of Omnidirectional ImagesHuiyu Duan, Guangtao Zhai, Xiongkuo Min et al.
Omnidirectional images and videos can provide immersive experience of real-world scenes in Virtual Reality (VR) environment. We present a perceptual omnidirectional image quality assessment (IQA) study in this paper since it is extremely important to provide a good quality of experience under the VR environment. We first establish an omnidirectional IQA (OIQA) database, which includes 16 source images and 320 distorted images degraded by 4 commonly encountered distortion types, namely JPEG compression, JPEG2000 compression, Gaussian blur and Gaussian noise. Then a subjective quality evaluation study is conducted on the OIQA database in the VR environment. Considering that humans can only see a part of the scene at one movement in the VR environment, visual attention becomes extremely important. Thus we also track head and eye movement data during the quality rating experiments. The original and distorted omnidirectional images, subjective quality ratings, and the head and eye movement data together constitute the OIQA database. State-of-the-art full-reference (FR) IQA measures are tested on the OIQA database, and some new observations different from traditional IQA are made.

LL-Bench: Rethinking Low-Level Vision Evaluation in the Era of Large-Scale Generative ModelsLu Liu, Huiyu Duan, Chenxin Zhu et al.
Large-scale generative models have demonstrated remarkable capabilities across image generation and editing tasks. However, their performance in low-level vision tasks, which require pixel-wise control, remains insufficiently studied. To address this gap, we introduce \textbf{LL-Bench}, a comprehensive \textbf{Benchmark} for evaluating the capabilities of large-scale generative models on \textbf{L}ow-\textbf{L}evel vision tasks. The benchmark comprises 2,469 real-world degraded images covering 16 low-level degradation tasks, and 28,919 restored images produced by 10 state-of-the-art large-scale generative models and 21 conventional restoration models, which are annotated with 152,020 expert-level pairwise human preferences and 28,334 quality scores. Built upon LL-Bench, we present a systematic diagnosis that reveals the performance boundaries and unique failure modes of large-scale generative models across diverse low-level vision tasks, compared with conventional representative restoration approaches. Moreover, we investigate the effectiveness of current quality evaluation metrics on LL-Bench, which exhibit significant discrepancy with human ratings. To better align restored-image quality assessment with human preferences, we further propose \textbf{LL-Score}, an MLLM-based evaluator that captures both restoration quality and hallucination existence. Extensive experiments demonstrate that LL-score not only outperforms existing image quality assessment metrics, but also serves as a promising reward model for training generative models on low-level vision tasks.

AIGCIQA2023: A Large-scale Image Quality Assessment Database for AI Generated Images: from the Perspectives of Quality, Authenticity and CorrespondenceJiarui Wang, Huiyu Duan, Jing Liu et al.
In this paper, in order to get a better understanding of the human visual preferences for AIGIs, a large-scale IQA database for AIGC is established, which is named as AIGCIQA2023. We first generate over 2000 images based on 6 state-of-the-art text-to-image generation models using 100 prompts. Based on these images, a well-organized subjective experiment is conducted to assess the human visual preferences for each image from three perspectives including quality, authenticity and correspondence. Finally, based on this large-scale database, we conduct a benchmark experiment to evaluate the performance of several state-of-the-art IQA metrics on our constructed database.

End-to-End Human-Gaze-Target Detection with TransformersDanyang Tu, Xiongkuo Min, Huiyu Duan et al.
In this paper, we propose an effective and efficient method for Human-Gaze-Target (HGT) detection, i.e., gaze following. Current approaches decouple the HGT detection task into separate branches of salient object detection and human gaze prediction, employing a two-stage framework where human head locations must first be detected and then be fed into the next gaze target prediction sub-network. In contrast, we redefine the HGT detection task as detecting human head locations and their gaze targets, simultaneously. By this way, our method, named Human-Gaze-Target detection TRansformer or HGTTR, streamlines the HGT detection pipeline by eliminating all other additional components. HGTTR reasons about the relations of salient objects and human gaze from the global image context. Moreover, unlike existing two-stage methods that require human head locations as input and can predict only one human's gaze target at a time, HGTTR can directly predict the locations of all people and their gaze targets at one time in an end-to-end manner. The effectiveness and robustness of our proposed method are verified with extensive experiments on the two standard benchmark datasets, GazeFollowing and VideoAttentionTarget. Without bells and whistles, HGTTR outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods by large margins (6.4 mAP gain on GazeFollowing and 10.3 mAP gain on VideoAttentionTarget) with a much simpler architecture.

Confusing Image Quality Assessment: Towards Better Augmented Reality ExperienceHuiyu Duan, Xiongkuo Min, Yucheng Zhu et al.
With the development of multimedia technology, Augmented Reality (AR) has become a promising next-generation mobile platform. The primary value of AR is to promote the fusion of digital contents and real-world environments, however, studies on how this fusion will influence the Quality of Experience (QoE) of these two components are lacking. To achieve better QoE of AR, whose two layers are influenced by each other, it is important to evaluate its perceptual quality first. In this paper, we consider AR technology as the superimposition of virtual scenes and real scenes, and introduce visual confusion as its basic theory. A more general problem is first proposed, which is evaluating the perceptual quality of superimposed images, i.e., confusing image quality assessment. A ConFusing Image Quality Assessment (CFIQA) database is established, which includes 600 reference images and 300 distorted images generated by mixing reference images in pairs. Then a subjective quality perception study and an objective model evaluation experiment are conducted towards attaining a better understanding of how humans perceive the confusing images. An objective metric termed CFIQA is also proposed to better evaluate the confusing image quality. Moreover, an extended ARIQA study is further conducted based on the CFIQA study. We establish an ARIQA database to better simulate the real AR application scenarios, which contains 20 AR reference images, 20 background (BG) reference images, and 560 distorted images generated from AR and BG references, as well as the correspondingly collected subjective quality ratings. We also design three types of full-reference (FR) IQA metrics to study whether we should consider the visual confusion when designing corresponding IQA algorithms. An ARIQA metric is finally proposed for better evaluating the perceptual quality of AR images.

VideoAesBench: Benchmarking the Video Aesthetics Perception Capabilities of Large Multimodal ModelsYunhao Li, Sijing Wu, Zhilin Gao et al.
Large multimodal models (LMMs) have demonstrated outstanding capabilities in various visual perception tasks, which has in turn made the evaluation of LMMs significant. However, the capability of video aesthetic quality assessment, which is a fundamental ability for human, remains underexplored for LMMs. To address this, we introduce VideoAesBench, a comprehensive benchmark for evaluating LMMs' understanding of video aesthetic quality. VideoAesBench has several significant characteristics: (1) Diverse content including 1,804 videos from multiple video sources including user-generated (UGC), AI-generated (AIGC), compressed, robotic-generated (RGC), and game videos. (2) Multiple question formats containing traditional single-choice questions, multi-choice questions, True or False questions, and a novel open-ended questions for video aesthetics description. (3) Holistic video aesthetics dimensions including visual form related questions from 5 aspects, visual style related questions from 4 aspects, and visual affectiveness questions from 3 aspects. Based on VideoAesBench, we benchmark 23 open-source and commercial large multimodal models. Our findings show that current LMMs only contain basic video aesthetics perception ability, their performance remains incomplete and imprecise. We hope our VideoAesBench can be served as a strong testbed and offer insights for explainable video aesthetics assessment. I2I-Bench: A Comprehensive Benchmark Suite for Image-to-Image Editing ModelsJuntong Wang, Jiarui Wang, Huiyu Duan et al.
Image editing models are advancing rapidly, yet comprehensive evaluation remains a significant challenge. Existing image editing benchmarks generally suffer from limited task scopes, insufficient evaluation dimensions, and heavy reliance on manual annotations, which significantly constrain their scalability and practical applicability. To address this, we propose \textbf{I2I-Bench}, a comprehensive benchmark for image-to-image editing models, which features (i) diverse tasks, encompassing 10 task categories across both single-image and multi-image editing tasks, (ii) comprehensive evaluation dimensions, including 30 decoupled and fine-grained evaluation dimensions with automated hybrid evaluation methods that integrate specialized tools and large multimodal models (LMMs), and (iii) rigorous alignment validation, justifying the consistency between our benchmark evaluations and human preferences. Using I2I-Bench, we benchmark numerous mainstream image editing models, investigating the gaps and trade-offs between editing models across various dimensions. We will open-source all components of I2I-Bench to facilitate future research.

Q-Bench-Portrait: Benchmarking Multimodal Large Language Models on Portrait Image Quality PerceptionSijing Wu, Yunhao Li, Zicheng Zhang et al.
Recent advances in multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have demonstrated impressive performance on existing low-level vision benchmarks, which primarily focus on generic images. However, their capabilities to perceive and assess portrait images, a domain characterized by distinct structural and perceptual properties, remain largely underexplored. To this end, we introduce Q-Bench-Portrait, the first holistic benchmark specifically designed for portrait image quality perception, comprising 2,765 image-question-answer triplets and featuring (1) diverse portrait image sources, including natural, synthetic distortion, AI-generated, artistic, and computer graphics images; (2) comprehensive quality dimensions, covering technical distortions, AIGC-specific distortions, and aesthetics; and (3) a range of question formats, including single-choice, multiple-choice, true/false, and open-ended questions, at both global and local levels. Based on Q-Bench-Portrait, we evaluate 20 open-source and 5 closed-source MLLMs, revealing that although current models demonstrate some competence in portrait image perception, their performance remains limited and imprecise, with a clear gap relative to human judgments. We hope that the proposed benchmark will foster further research into enhancing the portrait image perception capabilities of both general-purpose and domain-specific MLLMs.

Iwin: Human-Object Interaction Detection via Transformer with Irregular WindowsDanyang Tu, Xiongkuo Min, Huiyu Duan et al.
This paper presents a new vision Transformer, named Iwin Transformer, which is specifically designed for human-object interaction (HOI) detection, a detailed scene understanding task involving a sequential process of human/object detection and interaction recognition. Iwin Transformer is a hierarchical Transformer which progressively performs token representation learning and token agglomeration within irregular windows. The irregular windows, achieved by augmenting regular grid locations with learned offsets, 1) eliminate redundancy in token representation learning, which leads to efficient human/object detection, and 2) enable the agglomerated tokens to align with humans/objects with different shapes, which facilitates the acquisition of highly-abstracted visual semantics for interaction recognition. The effectiveness and efficiency of Iwin Transformer are verified on the two standard HOI detection benchmark datasets, HICO-DET and V-COCO. Results show our method outperforms existing Transformers-based methods by large margins (3.7 mAP gain on HICO-DET and 2.0 mAP gain on V-COCO) with fewer training epochs ($0.5 \times$).

AIM 2024 Challenge on Video Saliency Prediction: Methods and ResultsAndrey Moskalenko, Alexey Bryncev, Dmitry Vatolin et al.
This paper reviews the Challenge on Video Saliency Prediction at AIM 2024. The goal of the participants was to develop a method for predicting accurate saliency maps for the provided set of video sequences. Saliency maps are widely exploited in various applications, including video compression, quality assessment, visual perception studies, the advertising industry, etc. For this competition, a previously unused large-scale audio-visual mouse saliency (AViMoS) dataset of 1500 videos with more than 70 observers per video was collected using crowdsourced mouse tracking. The dataset collection methodology has been validated using conventional eye-tracking data and has shown high consistency. Over 30 teams registered in the challenge, and there are 7 teams that submitted the results in the final phase. The final phase solutions were tested and ranked by commonly used quality metrics on a private test subset. The results of this evaluation and the descriptions of the solutions are presented in this report. UniProcessor: A Text-induced Unified Low-level Image ProcessorHuiyu Duan, Xiongkuo Min, Sijing Wu et al.
Image processing, including image restoration, image enhancement, etc., involves generating a high-quality clean image from a degraded input. Deep learning-based methods have shown superior performance for various image processing tasks in terms of single-task conditions. However, they require to train separate models for different degradations and levels, which limits the generalization abilities of these models and restricts their applications in real-world. In this paper, we propose a text-induced unified image processor for low-level vision tasks, termed UniProcessor, which can effectively process various degradation types and levels, and support multimodal control. Specifically, our UniProcessor encodes degradation-specific information with the subject prompt and process degradations with the manipulation prompt. These context control features are injected into the UniProcessor backbone via cross-attention to control the processing procedure. For automatic subject-prompt generation, we further build a vision-language model for general-purpose low-level degradation perception via instruction tuning techniques. Our UniProcessor covers 30 degradation types, and extensive experiments demonstrate that our UniProcessor can well process these degradations without additional training or tuning and outperforms other competing methods. Moreover, with the help of degradation-aware context control, our UniProcessor first shows the ability to individually handle a single distortion in an image with multiple degradations.

Audio-visual Saliency for Omnidirectional VideosYuxin Zhu, Xilei Zhu, Huiyu Duan et al.
Visual saliency prediction for omnidirectional videos (ODVs) has shown great significance and necessity for omnidirectional videos to help ODV coding, ODV transmission, ODV rendering, etc.. However, most studies only consider visual information for ODV saliency prediction while audio is rarely considered despite its significant influence on the viewing behavior of ODV. This is mainly due to the lack of large-scale audio-visual ODV datasets and corresponding analysis. Thus, in this paper, we first establish the largest audio-visual saliency dataset for omnidirectional videos (AVS-ODV), which comprises the omnidirectional videos, audios, and corresponding captured eye-tracking data for three video sound modalities including mute, mono, and ambisonics. Then we analyze the visual attention behavior of the observers under various omnidirectional audio modalities and visual scenes based on the AVS-ODV dataset. Furthermore, we compare the performance of several state-of-the-art saliency prediction models on the AVS-ODV dataset and construct a new benchmark. Our AVS-ODV datasets and the benchmark will be released to facilitate future research.

Masked Autoencoders as Image ProcessorsHuiyu Duan, Wei Shen, Xiongkuo Min et al.
Transformers have shown significant effectiveness for various vision tasks including both high-level vision and low-level vision. Recently, masked autoencoders (MAE) for feature pre-training have further unleashed the potential of Transformers, leading to state-of-the-art performances on various high-level vision tasks. However, the significance of MAE pre-training on low-level vision tasks has not been sufficiently explored. In this paper, we show that masked autoencoders are also scalable self-supervised learners for image processing tasks. We first present an efficient Transformer model considering both channel attention and shifted-window-based self-attention termed CSformer. Then we develop an effective MAE architecture for image processing (MAEIP) tasks. Extensive experimental results show that with the help of MAEIP pre-training, our proposed CSformer achieves state-of-the-art performance on various image processing tasks, including Gaussian denoising, real image denoising, single-image motion deblurring, defocus deblurring, and image deraining.

How Does Audio Influence Visual Attention in Omnidirectional Videos? Database and ModelYuxin Zhu, Huiyu Duan, Kaiwei Zhang et al.
Understanding and predicting viewer attention in omnidirectional videos (ODVs) is crucial for enhancing user engagement in virtual and augmented reality applications. Although both audio and visual modalities are essential for saliency prediction in ODVs, the joint exploitation of these two modalities has been limited, primarily due to the absence of large-scale audio-visual saliency databases and comprehensive analyses. This paper comprehensively investigates audio-visual attention in ODVs from both subjective and objective perspectives. Specifically, we first introduce a new audio-visual saliency database for omnidirectional videos, termed AVS-ODV database, containing 162 ODVs and corresponding eye movement data collected from 60 subjects under three audio modes including mute, mono, and ambisonics. Based on the constructed AVS-ODV database, we perform an in-depth analysis of how audio influences visual attention in ODVs. To advance the research on audio-visual saliency prediction for ODVs, we further establish a new benchmark based on the AVS-ODV database by testing numerous state-of-the-art saliency models, including visual-only models and audio-visual models. In addition, given the limitations of current models, we propose an innovative omnidirectional audio-visual saliency prediction network (OmniAVS), which is built based on the U-Net architecture, and hierarchically fuses audio and visual features from the multimodal aligned embedding space. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed OmniAVS model outperforms other state-of-the-art models on both ODV AVS prediction and traditional AVS predcition tasks. The AVS-ODV database and OmniAVS model will be released to facilitate future research.

ITIScore: An Image-to-Text-to-Image Rating Framework for the Image Captioning Ability of MLLMsZitong Xu, Huiyu Duan, Shengyao Qin et al.
Recent advances in multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have greatly improved image understanding and captioning capabilities. However, existing image captioning benchmarks typically suffer from limited diversity in caption length, the absence of recent advanced MLLMs, and insufficient human annotations, which potentially introduces bias and limits the ability to comprehensively assess the performance of modern MLLMs. To address these limitations, we present a new large-scale image captioning benchmark, termed, ICBench, which covers 12 content categories and consists of both short and long captions generated by 10 advanced MLLMs on 2K images, resulting in 40K captions in total. We conduct extensive human subjective studies to obtain mean opinion scores (MOSs) across fine-grained evaluation dimensions, where short captions are assessed in terms of fluency, relevance, and conciseness, while long captions are evaluated based on fluency, relevance, and completeness. Furthermore, we propose an automated evaluation metric, \textbf{ITIScore}, based on an image-to-text-to-image framework, which measures caption quality through reconstruction consistency. Experimental results demonstrate strong alignment between our automatic metric and human judgments, as well as robust zero-shot generalization ability on other public captioning datasets. Both the dataset and model will be released upon publication.

Market-Bench: Benchmarking Large Language Models on Economic and Trade CompetitionYushuo Zheng, Huiyu Duan, Zicheng Zhang et al.
The ability of large language models (LLMs) to manage and acquire economic resources remains unclear. In this paper, we introduce \textbf{Market-Bench}, a comprehensive benchmark that evaluates the capabilities of LLMs in economically-relevant tasks through economic and trade competition. Specifically, we construct a configurable multi-agent supply chain economic model where LLMs act as retailer agents responsible for procuring and retailing merchandise. In the \textbf{procurement} stage, LLMs bid for limited inventory in budget-constrained auctions. In the \textbf{retail} stage, LLMs set retail prices, generate marketing slogans, and provide them to buyers through a role-based attention mechanism for purchase. Market-Bench logs complete trajectories of bids, prices, slogans, sales, and balance-sheet states, enabling automatic evaluation with economic, operational, and semantic metrics. Benchmarking on 20 open- and closed-source LLM agents reveals significant performance disparities and winner-take-most phenomenon, \textit{i.e.}, only a small subset of LLM retailers can consistently achieve capital appreciation, while many hover around the break-even point despite similar semantic matching scores. Market-Bench provides a reproducible testbed for studying how LLMs interact in competitive markets.

GeoR-Bench: Evaluating Geoscience Visual ReasoningYushuo Zheng, Zicheng Zhang, Huiyu Duan et al.
Geoscience intelligence is expected to understand, reason about, and predict earth system changes to support human decision-making in critical domains such as disaster response, climate adaptation and environmental protection. Although current research has shown promising progress on specific geoscience tasks, such as remote sensing interpretation, geographic question-answering, existing benchmarks remain largely task-specific which failing to capture the open-ended real world geoscience problems. As a result, it remains unclear how far current AI systems are from achieving genuine geoscience intelligence. To address this gap, we present \textbf{GeoR-Bench}, a \underline{Bench}mark for evaluating \underline{Geo}science visual \underline{R}easoning through reasoning informed visual editing tasks. GeoR-Bench contains 440 curated samples spanning 6 geoscience categories and 24 task types, covering earth observation imagery and structured scientific representations such as maps and diagrams. We evaluate outputs along three dimensions, including reasoning, consistency, and quality. Benchmark results of 21 closed- and open-source multimodal models reveal that geoscience reasoning remains a critical bottleneck. The highest-performing model achieves 42.7\% overall strict accuracy, while the best open-source models only get 10.3\%. Notably, the visual consistency and image quality of the outputs frequently surpass their scientific accuracy. Ultimately, these findings indicate that current models generate superficially plausible results but fail to capture underlying earth science processes.

Preference-Guided Debiasing for No-Reference Enhancement Image Quality AssessmentShiqi Gao, Kang Fu, Zitong Xu et al.
Current no-reference image quality assessment (NR-IQA) models for enhanced images often struggle to generalize, as they tend to overfit to the distinct patterns of specific enhancement algorithms rather than evaluating genuine perceptual quality. To address this issue, we propose a preference-guided debiasing framework for no-reference enhancement image quality assessment (EIQA). Specifically, we first learn a continuous enhancement-preference embedding space using supervised contrastive learning, where images generated by similar enhancement styles are encouraged to have closer representations. Based on this, we further estimate the enhancement-induced nuisance component contained in the raw quality representation and remove it before quality regression. In this way, the model is guided to focus on algorithm-invariant perceptual quality cues instead of enhancement-specific visual fingerprints. To facilitate stable optimization, we adopt a two-stage training strategy that first learns the enhancement-preference space and then performs debiased quality prediction. Extensive experiments on public EIQA benchmarks demonstrate that the proposed method effectively mitigates algorithm-induced representation bias and achieves superior robustness and cross-algorithm generalization compared with existing approaches.

Evaluating Image Editing with LLMs: A Comprehensive Benchmark and Intermediate-Layer Probing ApproachShiqi Gao, Zitong Xu, Kang Fu et al.
Evaluating text-guided image editing (TIE) methods remains a challenging problem, as reliable assessment should simultaneously consider perceptual quality, alignment with textual instructions, and preservation of original image content. Despite rapid progress in TIE models, existing evaluation benchmarks remain limited in scale and often show weak correlation with human perceptual judgments. In this work, we introduce TIEdit, a benchmark for systematic evaluation of text-guided image editing methods. TIEdit consists of 512 source images paired with editing prompts across eight representative editing tasks, producing 5,120 edited images generated by ten state-of-the-art TIE models. To obtain reliable subjective ratings, 20 experts are recruited to produce 307,200 raw subjective ratings, which accumulates into 15,360 mean opinion scores (MOSs) across three evaluation dimensions: perceptual quality, editing alignment, and content preservation. Beyond the benchmark itself, we further propose EditProbe, an LLM-based evaluator that estimates editing quality via intermediate-layer probing of hidden representations. Instead of relying solely on final model outputs, EditProbe extracts informative representations from intermediate layers of multimodal large language models to better capture semantic and perceptual relationships between source images, editing instructions, and edited results. Experimental results demonstrate that widely used automatic evaluation metrics show limited correlation with human judgments on editing tasks, while EditProbe achieves substantially stronger alignment with human perception. Together, TIEdit and EditProbe provide a foundation for more reliable and perceptually aligned evaluation of text-guided image editing methods.

Fine-Grained Human Pose Editing Assessment via Layer-Selective MLLMsNingyu Sun, Zhaolin Cai, Zitong Xu et al.
Text-guided human pose editing has gained significant traction in AIGC applications. However,it remains plagued by structural anomalies and generative artifacts. Existing evaluation metrics often isolate authenticity detection from quality assessment, failing to provide fine-grained insights into pose-specific inconsistencies. To address these limitations, we introduce HPE-Bench, a specialized benchmark comprising 1,700 standardized samples from 17 state-of-the-art editing models, offering both authenticity labels and multi-dimensional quality scores. Furthermore, we propose a unified framework based on layer-selective multimodal large language models (MLLMs). By employing contrastive LoRA tuning and a novel layer sensitivity analysis (LSA) mechanism, we identify the optimal feature layer for pose evaluation. Our framework achieves superior performance in both authenticity detection and multi-dimensional quality regression, effectively bridging the gap between forensic detection and quality assessment.

Generative Human-Object Interaction Detection via Differentiable Cognitive Steering of Multi-modal LLMsZhaolin Cai, Huiyu Duan, Zitong Xu et al.
Human-object interaction (HOI) detection aims to localize human-object pairs and the interactions between them. Existing methods operate under a closed-world assumption, treating the task as a classification problem over a small, predefined verb set, which struggles to generalize to the long-tail of unseen or ambiguous interactions in the wild. While recent multi-modal large language models (MLLMs) possess the rich world knowledge required for open-vocabulary understanding, they remain decoupled from existing HOI detectors since fine-tuning them is computationally prohibitive. To address these constraints, we propose \GRASP-HO}, a novel Generative Reasoning And Steerable Perception framework that reformulates HOI detection from the closed-set classification task to the open-vocabulary generation problem. To bridge the vision and cognitive, we first extract hybrid interaction representations, then design a lightweight learnable cognitive steering conduit (CSC) module to inject the fine-grained visual evidence into a frozen MLLM for effective reasoning. To address the supervision mismatch between classification-based HOI datasets and open-vocabulary generative models, we introduce a hybrid guidance strategy that coupling the language modeling loss and auxiliary classification loss, enabling discriminative grounding without sacrificing generative flexibility. Experiments demonstrate state-of-the-art closed-set performance and strong zero-shot generalization, achieving a unified paradigm that seamlessly bridges discriminative perception and generative reasoning for open-world HOI detection.

Enhancing Image Quality Assessment Ability of LMMs via Retrieval-Augmented GenerationKang Fu, Huiyu Duan, Zicheng Zhang et al.
Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) have recently shown remarkable promise in low-level visual perception tasks, particularly in Image Quality Assessment (IQA), demonstrating strong zero-shot capability. However, achieving state-of-the-art performance often requires computationally expensive fine-tuning methods, which aim to align the distribution of quality-related token in output with image quality levels. Inspired by recent training-free works for LMM, we introduce IQARAG, a novel, training-free framework that enhances LMMs' IQA ability. IQARAG leverages Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to retrieve some semantically similar but quality-variant reference images with corresponding Mean Opinion Scores (MOSs) for input image. These retrieved images and input image are integrated into a specific prompt. Retrieved images provide the LMM with a visual perception anchor for IQA task. IQARAG contains three key phases: Retrieval Feature Extraction, Image Retrieval, and Integration & Quality Score Generation. Extensive experiments across multiple diverse IQA datasets, including KADID, KonIQ, LIVE Challenge, and SPAQ, demonstrate that the proposed IQARAG effectively boosts the IQA performance of LMMs, offering a resource-efficient alternative to fine-tuning for quality assessment.

EditRefiner: A Human-Aligned Agentic Framework for Image Editing RefinementZitong Xu, Huiyu Duan, Yifei Nie et al.
Recent text-guided image editing (TIE) models have made remarkable progress, yet edited images still frequently suffer from fine-grained issues such as unnatural objects, lighting mismatch, and unexpected changes. Existing refinement approaches either rely on costly iterative regeneration or employ vision-language models (VLMs) with weak spatial grounding, often resulting in semantic drift and unreliable local corrections. To address these limitations, we first construct EditFHF-15K, a dataset of fine-grained human feedback for edited images, comprising (1) 15K images from 12 TIE models spanning 43 editing tasks, (2) 60K annotated artifact regions and 80K editing failure regions, each accompanied by textual reasoning, and (3) 45K mean opinion scores (MOSs) assessing perceptual quality, instruction following, and visual consistency. Based on EditFHF-15K, we propose EditRefiner, a hierarchical, interpretable, and human-aligned agentic framework that reformulates post-editing correction as a human-like perception-reasoning-action-evaluation loop. Specifically, we introduce: (1) a perception agent that detects contextual saliency maps of artifacts and editing failures, (2) a reasoning agent that interprets these perceptual cues to perform human-aligned diagnostic inference, (3) an action agent that uses the reasoning output to plan and execute localized re-editing, and (4) an evaluation agent that assesses the re-edited image and guides the action agent on whether further refinements are required. Extensive experiments demonstrate that EditRefiner consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods in distortion localization, diagnose accuracy and human perception alignment, establishing a new paradigm for self-corrective and perceptually reliable image editing. ReasonEdit: Towards Interpretable Image Editing Evaluation via Reinforcement LearningHonghua Chen, Zitong Xu, Huiyu Duan et al.
Recent text-guided image editing (TIE) models have achieved remarkable progress, however, many edited results still suffer from artifacts, unintended modifications, and suboptimal aesthetics. Although several benchmarks and evaluation methods have been proposed, most existing approaches rely on scalar scores and lack interpretability. This limitation largely stems from the absence of high-quality interpretation datasets for TIE and effective reward models to train interpretable evaluators. To address these challenges, we introduce ReasonEdit-22K, the first dataset that combines 22K edited images with 113K Chain-of-Thought (CoT) samples, along with 1.3M human judgments assessing these interpretations in terms of logicality, accuracy, and usefulness. Building upon this dataset, we propose RE-Reward, a multimodal large language model (MLLM)-based reward model designed to provide human-aligned feedback for evaluating interpretable reasoning in image editing. Furthermore, we develop ReasonEdit, which is trained using reward signals derived from RE-Reward and the Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) algorithm to learn an interpretable evaluation model. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ReasonEdit achieves superior alignment with human preferences and exhibits strong generalization across public benchmarks. In addition, it is capable of generating high-quality interpretable evaluation text, enabling more transparent and trustworthy assessment for image editing. Ges-QA: A Multidimensional Quality Assessment Dataset for Audio-to-3D Gesture GenerationZhilin Gao, Yunhao Li, Sijing Wu et al.
The Audio-to-3D-Gesture (A2G) task has enormous potential for various applications in virtual reality and computer graphics, etc. However, current evaluation metrics, such as Fréchet Gesture Distance or Beat Constancy, fail at reflecting the human preference of the generated 3D gestures. To cope with this problem, exploring human preference and an objective quality assessment metric for AI-generated 3D human gestures is becoming increasingly significant. In this paper, we introduce the Ges-QA dataset, which includes 1,400 samples with multidimensional scores for gesture quality and audio-gesture consistency. Moreover, we collect binary classification labels to determine whether the generated gestures match the emotions of the audio. Equipped with our Ges-QA dataset, we propose a multi-modal transformer-based neural network with 3 branches for video, audio and 3D skeleton modalities, which can score A2G contents in multiple dimensions. Comparative experimental results and ablation studies demonstrate that Ges-QAer yields state-of-the-art performance on our dataset.

Robust Mesh Saliency Ground Truth Acquisition in VR via View Cone Sampling and Manifold DiffusionGuoquan Zheng, Jie Hao, Huiyu Duan et al.
As the complexity of 3D digital content grows exponentially, understanding human visual attention is critical for optimizing rendering and processing resources. Therefore, reliable 3D mesh saliency ground truth (GT) is essential for human-centric visual modeling in virtual reality (VR). However, existing VR eye-tracking frameworks are fundamentally bottlenecked by their underlying acquisition and generation mechanisms. The reliance on zero-area single ray sampling (SRS) fails to capture contextual features, leading to severe texture aliasing and discontinuous saliency signals. And the conventional application of Euclidean smoothing propagates saliency across disconnected physical gaps, resulting in semantic confusion on complex 3D manifolds. This paper proposes a robust framework to address these limitations. We first introduce a view cone sampling (VCS) strategy, which simulates the human foveal receptive field via Gaussian-distributed ray bundles to improve sampling robustness for complex topologies. Furthermore, a hybrid Manifold-Euclidean constrained diffusion (HCD) algorithm is developed, fusing manifold geodesic constraints with Euclidean scales to ensure topologically-consistent saliency propagation. We demonstrate the improvement in performance over baseline methods and the benefits for downstream tasks through subjective experiments and qualitative and quantitative methods. By mitigating "topological short-circuits" and aliasing, our framework provides a high-fidelity 3D attention acquisition paradigm that aligns with natural human perception, offering a more accurate and robust baseline for 3D mesh saliency research.

Learning to Wander: Improving the Global Image Geolocation Ability of LMMs via Actionable ReasoningYushuo Zheng, Huiyu Duan, Zicheng Zhang et al.
Geolocation, the task of identifying the geographic location of an image, requires abundant world knowledge and complex reasoning abilities. Though advanced large multimodal models (LMMs) have shown superior aforementioned capabilities, their performance on the geolocation task remains unexplored. To this end, we introduce \textbf{WanderBench}, the first open access global geolocation benchmark designed for actionable geolocation reasoning in embodied scenarios. WanderBench contains over 32K panoramas across six continents, organized as navigable graphs that enable physical actions such as rotation and movement, transforming geolocation from static recognition into interactive exploration. Building on this foundation, we propose \textbf{GeoAoT} (Action of Thought), a \underline{Geo}location framework with \underline{A}ction of \underline{T}hough, which couples reasoning with embodied actions. Instead of generating textual reasoning chains, GeoAoT produces actionable plans such as, approaching landmarks or adjusting viewpoints, to actively reduce uncertainty. We further establish an evaluation protocol that jointly measures geolocation accuracy and difficulty-aware geolocation questioning ability. Experiments on 19 large multimodal models show that GeoAoT achieves superior fine-grained localization and stronger generalization in dynamic environments. WanderBench and GeoAoT define a new paradigm for actionable, reasoning driven geolocation in embodied visual understanding.

Text-to-image (T2I) diffusion models such as SDXL and FLUX have achieved impressive photorealism, yet small-scale distortions remain pervasive in limbs, face, text and so on. Existing refinement approaches either perform costly iterative re-generation or rely on vision-language models (VLMs) with weak spatial grounding, leading to semantic drift and unreliable local edits. To close this gap, we propose Agentic Retoucher, a hierarchical decision-driven framework that reformulates post-generation correction as a human-like perception-reasoning-action loop. Specifically, we design (1) a perception agent that learns contextual saliency for fine-grained distortion localization under text-image consistency cues, (2) a reasoning agent that performs human-aligned inferential diagnosis via progressive preference alignment, and (3) an action agent that adaptively plans localized inpainting guided by user preference. This design integrates perceptual evidence, linguistic reasoning, and controllable correction into a unified, self-corrective decision process. To enable fine-grained supervision and quantitative evaluation, we further construct GenBlemish-27K, a dataset of 6K T2I images with 27K annotated artifact regions across 12 categories. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Agentic Retoucher consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods in perceptual quality, distortion localization and human preference alignment, establishing a new paradigm for self-corrective and perceptually reliable T2I generation.

Quality Assessment for AI Generated Images with Instruction TuningJiarui Wang, Huiyu Duan, Guangtao Zhai et al.
Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) has grown rapidly in recent years, among which AI-based image generation has gained widespread attention due to its efficient and imaginative image creation ability. However, AI-generated Images (AIGIs) may not satisfy human preferences due to their unique distortions, which highlights the necessity to understand and evaluate human preferences for AIGIs. To this end, in this paper, we first establish a novel Image Quality Assessment (IQA) database for AIGIs, termed AIGCIQA2023+, which provides human visual preference scores and detailed preference explanations from three perspectives including quality, authenticity, and correspondence. Then, based on the constructed AIGCIQA2023+ database, this paper presents a MINT-IQA model to evaluate and explain human preferences for AIGIs from Multi-perspectives with INstruction Tuning. Specifically, the MINT-IQA model first learn and evaluate human preferences for AI-generated Images from multi-perspectives, then via the vision-language instruction tuning strategy, MINT-IQA attains powerful understanding and explanation ability for human visual preference on AIGIs, which can be used for feedback to further improve the assessment capabilities. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed MINT-IQA model achieves state-of-the-art performance in understanding and evaluating human visual preferences for AIGIs, and the proposed model also achieves competing results on traditional IQA tasks compared with state-of-the-art IQA models. LMM4LMM: Benchmarking and Evaluating Large-multimodal Image Generation with LMMsJiarui Wang, Huiyu Duan, Yu Zhao et al.
Recent breakthroughs in large multimodal models (LMMs) have significantly advanced both text-to-image (T2I) generation and image-to-text (I2T) interpretation. However, many generated images still suffer from issues related to perceptual quality and text-image alignment. Given the high cost and inefficiency of manual evaluation, an automatic metric that aligns with human preferences is desirable. To this end, we present EvalMi-50K, a comprehensive dataset and benchmark for evaluating large-multimodal image generation, which features (i) comprehensive tasks, encompassing 2,100 extensive prompts across 20 fine-grained task dimensions, and (ii) large-scale human-preference annotations, including 100K mean-opinion scores (MOSs) and 50K question-answering (QA) pairs annotated on 50,400 images generated from 24 T2I models. Based on EvalMi-50K, we propose LMM4LMM, an LMM-based metric for evaluating large multimodal T2I generation from multiple dimensions including perception, text-image correspondence, and task-specific accuracy. Extensive experimental results show that LMM4LMM achieves state-of-the-art performance on EvalMi-50K, and exhibits strong generalization ability on other AI-generated image evaluation benchmark datasets, manifesting the generality of both the EvalMi-50K dataset and LMM4LMM metric. How is Visual Attention Influenced by Text Guidance? Database and ModelYinan Sun, Xiongkuo Min, Huiyu Duan et al.
The analysis and prediction of visual attention have long been crucial tasks in the fields of computer vision and image processing. In practical applications, images are generally accompanied by various text descriptions, however, few studies have explored the influence of text descriptions on visual attention, let alone developed visual saliency prediction models considering text guidance. In this paper, we conduct a comprehensive study on text-guided image saliency (TIS) from both subjective and objective perspectives. Specifically, we construct a TIS database named SJTU-TIS, which includes 1200 text-image pairs and the corresponding collected eye-tracking data. Based on the established SJTU-TIS database, we analyze the influence of various text descriptions on visual attention. Then, to facilitate the development of saliency prediction models considering text influence, we construct a benchmark for the established SJTU-TIS database using state-of-the-art saliency models. Finally, considering the effect of text descriptions on visual attention, while most existing saliency models ignore this impact, we further propose a text-guided saliency (TGSal) prediction model, which extracts and integrates both image features and text features to predict the image saliency under various text-description conditions. Our proposed model significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art saliency models on both the SJTU-TIS database and the pure image saliency databases in terms of various evaluation metrics. Omni$^2$: Unifying Omnidirectional Image Generation and Editing in an Omni ModelLiu Yang, Huiyu Duan, Yucheng Zhu et al.
$360^{\circ}$ omnidirectional images (ODIs) have gained considerable attention recently, and are widely used in various virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) applications. However, capturing such images is expensive and requires specialized equipment, making ODI synthesis increasingly important. While common 2D image generation and editing methods are rapidly advancing, these models struggle to deliver satisfactory results when generating or editing ODIs due to the unique format and broad 360$^{\circ}$ Field-of-View (FoV) of ODIs. To bridge this gap, we construct \textbf{\textit{Any2Omni}}, the first comprehensive ODI generation-editing dataset comprises 60,000+ training data covering diverse input conditions and up to 9 ODI generation and editing tasks. Built upon Any2Omni, we propose an \textbf{\underline{Omni}} model for \textbf{\underline{Omni}}-directional image generation and editing (\textbf{\textit{Omni$^2$}}), with the capability of handling various ODI generation and editing tasks under diverse input conditions using one model. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed Omni$^2$ model for both the ODI generation and editing tasks. LMM4Edit: Benchmarking and Evaluating Multimodal Image Editing with LMMsZitong Xu, Huiyu Duan, Bingnan Liu et al.
The rapid advancement of Text-guided Image Editing (TIE) enables image modifications through text prompts. However, current TIE models still struggle to balance image quality, editing alignment, and consistency with the original image, limiting their practical applications. Existing TIE evaluation benchmarks and metrics have limitations on scale or alignment with human perception. To this end, we introduce EBench-18K, the first large-scale image Editing Benchmark including 18K edited images with fine-grained human preference annotations for evaluating TIE. Specifically, EBench-18K includes 1,080 source images with corresponding editing prompts across 21 tasks, 18K+ edited images produced by 17 state-of-the-art TIE models, 55K+ mean opinion scores (MOSs) assessed from three evaluation dimensions, and 18K+ question-answering (QA) pairs. Based on EBench-18K, we employ outstanding LMMs to assess edited images, while the evaluation results, in turn, provide insights into assessing the alignment between the LMMs' understanding ability and human preferences. Then, we propose LMM4Edit, a LMM-based metric for evaluating image Editing models from perceptual quality, editing alignment, attribute preservation, and task-specific QA accuracy in an all-in-one manner. Extensive experiments show that LMM4Edit achieves outstanding performance and aligns well with human preference. ESVQA: Perceptual Quality Assessment of Egocentric Spatial VideosXilei Zhu, Huiyu Duan, Liu Yang et al.
With the rapid development of eXtended Reality (XR), egocentric spatial shooting and display technologies have further enhanced immersion and engagement for users, delivering more captivating and interactive experiences. Assessing the quality of experience (QoE) of egocentric spatial videos is crucial to ensure a high-quality viewing experience. However, the corresponding research is still lacking. In this paper, we use the concept of embodied experience to highlight this more immersive experience and study the new problem, i.e., embodied perceptual quality assessment for egocentric spatial videos. Specifically, we introduce the first Egocentric Spatial Video Quality Assessment Database (ESVQAD), which comprises 600 egocentric spatial videos captured using the Apple Vision Pro and their corresponding mean opinion scores (MOSs). Furthermore, we propose a novel multi-dimensional binocular feature fusion model, termed ESVQAnet, which integrates binocular spatial, motion, and semantic features to predict the overall perceptual quality. Experimental results demonstrate the ESVQAnet significantly outperforms 16 state-of-the-art VQA models on the embodied perceptual quality assessment task, and exhibits strong generalization capability on traditional VQA tasks. Recent advancements in large multimodal models (LMMs) have driven substantial progress in both text-to-video (T2V) generation and video-to-text (V2T) interpretation tasks. However, current AI-generated videos (AIGVs) still exhibit limitations in terms of perceptual quality and text-video alignment. Therefore, a reliable and scalable automatic model for AIGV evaluation is desirable, which heavily relies on the scale and quality of human annotations. To this end, we present AIGVE-60K, a comprehensive dataset and benchmark for AI-Generated Video Evaluation, which features (i) comprehensive tasks, encompassing 3,050 extensive prompts across 20 fine-grained task dimensions, (ii) the largest human annotations, including 120K mean-opinion scores (MOSs) and 60K question-answering (QA) pairs annotated on 58,500 videos generated from 30 T2V models, and (iii) bidirectional benchmarking and evaluating for both T2V generation and V2T interpretation capabilities. Based on AIGVE-60K, we propose LOVE, a LMM-based metric for AIGV Evaluation from multiple dimensions including perceptual preference, text-video correspondence, and task-specific accuracy in terms of both instance level and model level. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that LOVE not only achieves state-of-the-art performance on the AIGVE-60K dataset, but also generalizes effectively to a wide range of other AIGV evaluation benchmarks. RGC-VQA: An Exploration Database for Robotic-Generated Video Quality AssessmentJianing Jin, Jiangyong Ying, Huiyu Duan et al.
As camera-equipped robotic platforms become increasingly integrated into daily life, robotic-generated videos have begun to appear on streaming media platforms, enabling us to envision a future where humans and robots coexist. We innovatively propose the concept of Robotic-Generated Content (RGC) to term these videos generated from egocentric perspective of robots. The perceptual quality of RGC videos is critical in human-robot interaction scenarios, and RGC videos exhibit unique distortions and visual requirements that differ markedly from those of professionally-generated content (PGC) videos and user-generated content (UGC) videos. However, dedicated research on quality assessment of RGC videos is still lacking. To address this gap and to support broader robotic applications, we establish the first Robotic-Generated Content Database (RGCD), which contains a total of 2,100 videos drawn from three robot categories and sourced from diverse platforms. A subjective VQA experiment is conducted subsequently to assess human visual perception of robotic-generated videos. Finally, we conduct a benchmark experiment to evaluate the performance of 11 state-of-the-art VQA models on our database. Experimental results reveal significant limitations in existing VQA models when applied to complex, robotic-generated content, highlighting a critical need for RGC-specific VQA models. Quality Assessment and Distortion-aware Saliency Prediction for AI-Generated Omnidirectional ImagesLiu Yang, Huiyu Duan, Jiarui Wang et al.
With the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) techniques, AI generated images (AIGIs) have attracted widespread attention, among which AI generated omnidirectional images (AIGODIs) hold significant potential for Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) applications. AI generated omnidirectional images exhibit unique quality issues, however, research on the quality assessment and optimization of AI-generated omnidirectional images is still lacking. To this end, this work first studies the quality assessment and distortion-aware saliency prediction problems for AIGODIs, and further presents a corresponding optimization process. Specifically, we first establish a comprehensive database to reflect human feedback for AI-generated omnidirectionals, termed OHF2024, which includes both subjective quality ratings evaluated from three perspectives and distortion-aware salient regions. Based on the constructed OHF2024 database, we propose two models with shared encoders based on the BLIP-2 model to evaluate the human visual experience and predict distortion-aware saliency for AI-generated omnidirectional images, which are named as BLIP2OIQA and BLIP2OISal, respectively. Finally, based on the proposed models, we present an automatic optimization process that utilizes the predicted visual experience scores and distortion regions to further enhance the visual quality of an AI-generated omnidirectional image. Extensive experiments show that our BLIP2OIQA model and BLIP2OISal model achieve state-of-the-art (SOTA) results in the human visual experience evaluation task and the distortion-aware saliency prediction task for AI generated omnidirectional images, and can be effectively used in the optimization process. DFBench: Benchmarking Deepfake Image Detection Capability of Large Multimodal ModelsJiarui Wang, Huiyu Duan, Juntong Wang et al.
With the rapid advancement of generative models, the realism of AI-generated images has significantly improved, posing critical challenges for verifying digital content authenticity. Current deepfake detection methods often depend on datasets with limited generation models and content diversity that fail to keep pace with the evolving complexity and increasing realism of the AI-generated content. Large multimodal models (LMMs), widely adopted in various vision tasks, have demonstrated strong zero-shot capabilities, yet their potential in deepfake detection remains largely unexplored. To bridge this gap, we present \textbf{DFBench}, a large-scale DeepFake Benchmark featuring (i) broad diversity, including 540,000 images across real, AI-edited, and AI-generated content, (ii) latest model, the fake images are generated by 12 state-of-the-art generation models, and (iii) bidirectional benchmarking and evaluating for both the detection accuracy of deepfake detectors and the evasion capability of generative models. Based on DFBench, we propose \textbf{MoA-DF}, Mixture of Agents for DeepFake detection, leveraging a combined probability strategy from multiple LMMs. MoA-DF achieves state-of-the-art performance, further proving the effectiveness of leveraging LMMs for deepfake detection. Embodied Image Quality Assessment for Robotic IntelligenceJianbo Zhang, Chunyi Li, Jie Hao et al.
Image Quality Assessment (IQA) of User-Generated Content (UGC) is a critical technique for human Quality of Experience (QoE). However, does the the image quality of Robot-Generated Content (RGC) demonstrate traits consistent with the Moravec paradox, potentially conflicting with human perceptual norms? Human subjective scoring is more based on the attractiveness of the image. Embodied agent are required to interact and perceive in the environment, and finally perform specific tasks. Visual images as inputs directly influence downstream tasks. In this paper, we explore the perception mechanism of embodied robots for image quality. We propose the first Embodied Preference Database (EPD), which contains 12,500 distorted image annotations. We establish assessment metrics based on the downstream tasks of robot. In addition, there is a gap between UGC and RGC. To address this, we propose a novel Multi-scale Attention Embodied Image Quality Assessment called MA-EIQA. For the proposed EPD dataset, this is the first no-reference IQA model designed for embodied robot. Finally, the performance of mainstream IQA algorithms on EPD dataset is verified. The experiments demonstrate that quality assessment of embodied images is different from that of humans. Perceptual Video Quality Assessment: A SurveyXiongkuo Min, Huiyu Duan, Wei Sun et al.
Perceptual video quality assessment plays a vital role in the field of video processing due to the existence of quality degradations introduced in various stages of video signal acquisition, compression, transmission and display. With the advancement of internet communication and cloud service technology, video content and traffic are growing exponentially, which further emphasizes the requirement for accurate and rapid assessment of video quality. Therefore, numerous subjective and objective video quality assessment studies have been conducted over the past two decades for both generic videos and specific videos such as streaming, user-generated content (UGC), 3D, virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR), high frame rate (HFR), audio-visual, etc. This survey provides an up-to-date and comprehensive review of these video quality assessment studies. Specifically, we first review the subjective video quality assessment methodologies and databases, which are necessary for validating the performance of video quality metrics. Second, the objective video quality assessment algorithms for general purposes are surveyed and concluded according to the methodologies utilized in the quality measures. Third, we overview the objective video quality assessment measures for specific applications and emerging topics. Finally, the performances of the state-of-the-art video quality assessment measures are compared and analyzed. This survey provides a systematic overview of both classical works and recent progresses in the realm of video quality assessment, which can help other researchers quickly access the field and conduct relevant research.

EEmo-Logic: A Unified Dataset and Multi-Stage Framework for Comprehensive Image-Evoked Emotion AssessmentLancheng Gao, Ziheng Jia, Zixuan Xing et al.
Understanding the multi-dimensional attributes and intensity nuances of image-evoked emotions is pivotal for advancing machine empathy and empowering diverse human-computer interaction applications. However, existing models are still limited to coarse-grained emotion perception or deficient reasoning capabilities. To bridge this gap, we introduce EEmoDB, the largest image-evoked emotion understanding dataset to date. It features $5$ analysis dimensions spanning $5$ distinct task categories, facilitating comprehensive interpretation. Specifically, we compile $1.2M$ question-answering (QA) pairs (EEmoDB-QA) from $125k$ images via automated generation, alongside a $36k$ dataset (EEmoDB-Assess) curated from $25k$ images for fine-grained assessment. Furthermore, we propose EEmo-Logic, an all-in-one multimodal large language model (MLLM) developed via instruction fine-tuning and task-customized group relative preference optimization (GRPO) with novel reward design. Extensive experiments demonstrate that EEmo-Logic achieves robust performance in in-domain and cross-domain datasets, excelling in emotion QA and fine-grained assessment. GeoX-Bench: Benchmarking Cross-View Geo-Localization and Pose Estimation Capabilities of Large Multimodal ModelsYushuo Zheng, Jiangyong Ying, Huiyu Duan et al.
Large multimodal models (LMMs) have demonstrated remarkable capabilities across a wide range of tasks, however their knowledge and abilities in the cross-view geo-localization and pose estimation domains remain unexplored, despite potential benefits for navigation, autonomous driving, outdoor robotics, \textit{etc}. To bridge this gap, we introduce \textbf{GeoX-Bench}, a comprehensive \underline{Bench}mark designed to explore and evaluate the capabilities of LMMs in \underline{cross}-view \underline{Geo}-localization and pose estimation. Specifically, GeoX-Bench contains 10,859 panoramic-satellite image pairs spanning 128 cities in 49 countries, along with corresponding 755,976 question-answering (QA) pairs. Among these, 42,900 QA pairs are designated for benchmarking, while the remaining are intended to enhance the capabilities of LMMs. Based on GeoX-Bench, we evaluate the capabilities of 25 state-of-the-art LMMs on cross-view geo-localization and pose estimation tasks, and further explore the empowered capabilities of instruction-tuning. Our benchmark demonstrate that while current LMMs achieve impressive performance in geo-localization tasks, their effectiveness declines significantly on the more complex pose estimation tasks, highlighting a critical area for future improvement, and instruction-tuning LMMs on the training data of GeoX-Bench can significantly improve the cross-view geo-sense abilities. Life-IQA: Boosting Blind Image Quality Assessment through GCN-enhanced Layer Interaction and MoE-based Feature DecouplingLong Tang, Guoquan Zhen, Jie Hao et al.
Blind image quality assessment (BIQA) plays a crucial role in evaluating and optimizing visual experience. Most existing BIQA approaches fuse shallow and deep features extracted from backbone networks, while overlooking the unequal contributions to quality prediction. Moreover, while various vision encoder backbones are widely adopted in BIQA, the effective quality decoding architectures remain underexplored. To address these limitations, this paper investigates the contributions of shallow and deep features to BIQA, and proposes a effective quality feature decoding framework via GCN-enhanced \underline{l}ayer\underline{i}nteraction and MoE-based \underline{f}eature d\underline{e}coupling, termed \textbf{(Life-IQA)}. Specifically, the GCN-enhanced layer interaction module utilizes the GCN-enhanced deepest-layer features as query and the penultimate-layer features as key, value, then performs cross-attention to achieve feature interaction. Moreover, a MoE-based feature decoupling module is proposed to decouple fused representations though different experts specialized for specific distortion types or quality dimensions. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Life-IQA shows more favorable balance between accuracy and cost than a vanilla Transformer decoder and achieves state-of-the-art performance on multiple BIQA benchmarks.The code is available at: \href{https://github.com/TANGLONG2/Life-IQA/tree/main}{\texttt{Life-IQA}}.

ODI-Bench: Can MLLMs Understand Immersive Omnidirectional Environments?Liu Yang, Huiyu Duan, Ran Tao et al.
Omnidirectional images (ODIs) provide full 360x180 view which are widely adopted in VR, AR and embodied intelligence applications. While multi-modal large language models (MLLMs) have demonstrated remarkable performance on conventional 2D image and video understanding benchmarks, their ability to comprehend the immersive environments captured by ODIs remains largely unexplored. To address this gap, we first present ODI-Bench, a novel comprehensive benchmark specifically designed for omnidirectional image understanding. ODI-Bench contains 2,000 high-quality omnidirectional images and over 4,000 manually annotated question-answering (QA) pairs across 10 fine-grained tasks, covering both general-level and spatial-level ODI understanding. Extensive experiments are conducted to benchmark 20 representative MLLMs, including proprietary and open-source models, under both close-ended and open-ended settings. Experimental results reveal that current MLLMs still struggle to capture the immersive context provided by ODIs. To this end, we further introduce Omni-CoT, a training-free method which significantly enhances MLLMs' comprehension ability in the omnidirectional environment through chain-of-thought reasoning across both textual information and visual cues. Quality-guided Skin Tone Enhancement for Portrait PhotographyShiqi Gao, Huiyu Duan, Xinyue Li et al.
In recent years, learning-based color and tone enhancement methods for photos have become increasingly popular. However, most learning-based image enhancement methods just learn a mapping from one distribution to another based on one dataset, lacking the ability to adjust images continuously and controllably. It is important to enable the learning-based enhancement models to adjust an image continuously, since in many cases we may want to get a slighter or stronger enhancement effect rather than one fixed adjusted result. In this paper, we propose a quality-guided image enhancement paradigm that enables image enhancement models to learn the distribution of images with various quality ratings. By learning this distribution, image enhancement models can associate image features with their corresponding perceptual qualities, which can be used to adjust images continuously according to different quality scores. To validate the effectiveness of our proposed method, a subjective quality assessment experiment is first conducted, focusing on skin tone adjustment in portrait photography. Guided by the subjective quality ratings obtained from this experiment, our method can adjust the skin tone corresponding to different quality requirements. Furthermore, an experiment conducted on 10 natural raw images corroborates the effectiveness of our model in situations with fewer subjects and fewer shots, and also demonstrates its general applicability to natural images. Facial Attractiveness Prediction in Live Streaming: A New Benchmark and Multi-modal MethodHui Li, Xiaoyu Ren, Hongjiu Yu et al.
Facial attractiveness prediction (FAP) has long been an important computer vision task, which could be widely applied in live streaming for facial retouching, content recommendation, etc. However, previous FAP datasets are either small, closed-source, or lack diversity. Moreover, the corresponding FAP models exhibit limited generalization and adaptation ability. To overcome these limitations, in this paper we present LiveBeauty, the first large-scale live-specific FAP dataset, in a more challenging application scenario, i.e., live streaming. 10,000 face images are collected from a live streaming platform directly, with 200,000 corresponding attractiveness annotations obtained from a well-devised subjective experiment, making LiveBeauty the largest open-access FAP dataset in the challenging live scenario. Furthermore, a multi-modal FAP method is proposed to measure the facial attractiveness in live streaming. Specifically, we first extract holistic facial prior knowledge and multi-modal aesthetic semantic features via a Personalized Attractiveness Prior Module (PAPM) and a Multi-modal Attractiveness Encoder Module (MAEM), respectively, then integrate the extracted features through a Cross-Modal Fusion Module (CMFM). Extensive experiments conducted on both LiveBeauty and other open-source FAP datasets demonstrate that our proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance. Dataset will be available soon.
