Infrared and Visible Image Fusion via Interactive Compensatory Attention Adversarial Learning

Zhishe Wang, Wenyu Shao, Yanlin Chen et al.

The existing generative adversarial fusion methods generally concatenate source images and extract local features through convolution operation, without considering their global characteristics, which tends to produce an unbalanced result and is biased towards the infrared image or visible image. Toward this end, we propose a novel end-to-end mode based on generative adversarial training to achieve better fusion balance, termed as \textit{interactive compensatory attention fusion network} (ICAFusion). In particular, in the generator, we construct a multi-level encoder-decoder network with a triple path, and adopt infrared and visible paths to provide additional intensity and gradient information. Moreover, we develop interactive and compensatory attention modules to communicate their pathwise information, and model their long-range dependencies to generate attention maps, which can more focus on infrared target perception and visible detail characterization, and further increase the representation power for feature extraction and feature reconstruction. In addition, dual discriminators are designed to identify the similar distribution between fused result and source images, and the generator is optimized to produce a more balanced result. Extensive experiments illustrate that our ICAFusion obtains superior fusion performance and better generalization ability, which precedes other advanced methods in the subjective visual description and objective metric evaluation. Our codes will be public at \url{https://github.com/Zhishe-Wang/ICAFusion}

LLA-FLOW: A Lightweight Local Aggregation on Cost Volume for Optical Flow Estimation

Jiawei Xu, Zongqing Lu, Qingmin Liao

Lack of texture often causes ambiguity in matching, and handling this issue is an important challenge in optical flow estimation. Some methods insert stacked transformer modules that allow the network to use global information of cost volume for estimation. But the global information aggregation often incurs serious memory and time costs during training and inference, which hinders model deployment. We draw inspiration from the traditional local region constraint and design the local similarity aggregation (LSA) and the shifted local similarity aggregation (SLSA). The aggregation for cost volume is implemented with lightweight modules that act on the feature maps. Experiments on the final pass of Sintel show the lower cost required for our approach while maintaining competitive performance.

SeqNet: An Efficient Neural Network for Automatic Malware Detection

Jiawei Xu, Wenxuan Fu, Haoyu Bu et al.

Malware continues to evolve rapidly, and more than 450,000 new samples are captured every day, which makes manual malware analysis impractical. However, existing deep learning detection models need manual feature engineering or require high computational overhead for long training processes, which might be laborious to select feature space and difficult to retrain for mitigating model aging. Therefore, a crucial requirement for a detector is to realize automatic and efficient detection. In this paper, we propose a lightweight malware detection model called SeqNet which could be trained at high speed with low memory required on the raw binaries. By avoiding contextual confusion and reducing semantic loss, SeqNet maintains the detection accuracy when reducing the number of parameters to only 136K. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our methods and the low training cost requirement of SeqNet in our experiments. Besides, we make our datasets and codes public to stimulate further academic research.

Relative Policy-Transition Optimization for Fast Policy Transfer

Jiawei Xu, Cheng Zhou, Yizheng Zhang et al.

We consider the problem of policy transfer between two Markov Decision Processes (MDPs). We introduce a lemma based on existing theoretical results in reinforcement learning to measure the relativity gap between two arbitrary MDPs, that is the difference between any two cumulative expected returns defined on different policies and environment dynamics. Based on this lemma, we propose two new algorithms referred to as Relative Policy Optimization (RPO) and Relative Transition Optimization (RTO), which offer fast policy transfer and dynamics modelling, respectively. RPO transfers the policy evaluated in one environment to maximize the return in another, while RTO updates the parameterized dynamics model to reduce the gap between the dynamics of the two environments. Integrating the two algorithms results in the complete Relative Policy-Transition Optimization (RPTO) algorithm, in which the policy interacts with the two environments simultaneously, such that data collections from two environments, policy and transition updates are completed in one closed loop to form a principled learning framework for policy transfer. We demonstrate the effectiveness of RPTO on a set of MuJoCo continuous control tasks by creating policy transfer problems via variant dynamics.

Modular Multi-Rotors: From Quadrotors to Fully-Actuated Aerial Vehicles

Jiawei Xu, Diego S. D'Antonio, David Saldaña

Traditional aerial vehicles are constrained to perform specific tasks due to their adhoc designs. Based on modularity, we propose a versatile robot, H-ModQuad, that can adapt to different tasks by increasing its load capacity and actuated degrees of freedom. It is composed of cuboid modules propelled by quadrotors with tilted rotors. We present two families of module designs that bring scalable and versatile actuation to the aerial systems. By configuring multiple modules, H-ModQuad can increase its payload capacity and change its actuated degrees of freedom from 4 to 5 and 6. By modeling the actuation capability of H-ModQuad using actuation ellipsoids and wrench polytopes, we find the body frame of a vehicle that maximizes its thrusting efficiency. We also compare the vehicle capabilities against formally defined task requirements. We present the dynamics of H-ModQuad and integrate control strategies despite the vehicle design. The design and model are validated with experiments using actual robots, showing that H-ModQuad vehicles with different configurations provide different actuation properties.
