On the Trustworthiness Landscape of State-of-the-art Generative Models: A Survey and Outlook

Mingyuan Fan, Chengyu Wang, Cen Chen et al.

Diffusion models and large language models have emerged as leading-edge generative models, revolutionizing various aspects of human life. However, the practical implementations of these models have also exposed inherent risks, bringing to the forefront their evil sides and sparking concerns regarding their trustworthiness. Despite the wealth of literature on this subject, a comprehensive survey specifically delving into the intersection of large-scale generative models and their trustworthiness remains largely absent. To bridge this gap, this paper investigates both the long-standing and emerging threats associated with these models across four fundamental dimensions: 1) privacy, 2) security, 3) fairness, and 4) responsibility. Based on the investigation results, we develop an extensive map outlining the trustworthiness of large generative models. After that, we provide practical recommendations and potential research directions for future secure applications equipped with large generative models, ultimately promoting the trustworthiness of the models and benefiting the society as a whole.

Thinking with DistilQwen: A Tale of Four Distilled Reasoning and Reward Model Series

Wenrui Cai, Chengyu Wang, Junbing Yan et al.

Recently, the demand for small and efficient reasoning models to support real-world applications has driven the development of knowledge distillation techniques that balance reasoning performance and inference speed. In this paper, we further extend the DistilQwen model family, initialized from the Qwen models, by introducing four model series specifically designed to meet industrial requirements. The distilled model collection comprises: (1) slow-thinking models, optimized for reasoning tasks that require high accuracy; (2) two series of adaptive-thinking models, which dynamically adjust reasoning strategies based on input tasks to maximize efficiency across diverse scenarios; and (3) distilled reward models, which enable further reinforcement learning of reasoning models using distilled knowledge. Comprehensive evaluations across multiple benchmarks demonstrate both high inference efficiency and strong reasoning performance for these models, as well as the practical utility of distilled reward models. We further show that these models support industry practitioners by providing scalable training and inference functionalities on the Alibaba Cloud PAI (Platform for Artificial Intelligence) platform.

An Open API Architecture to Discover the Trustworthy Explanation of Cloud AI Services

Zerui Wang, Yan Liu, Jun Huang

This article presents the design of an open-API-based explainable AI (XAI) service to provide feature contribution explanations for cloud AI services. Cloud AI services are widely used to develop domain-specific applications with precise learning metrics. However, the underlying cloud AI services remain opaque on how the model produces the prediction. We argue that XAI operations are accessible as open APIs to enable the consolidation of the XAI operations into the cloud AI services assessment. We propose a design using a microservice architecture that offers feature contribution explanations for cloud AI services without unfolding the network structure of the cloud models. We can also utilize this architecture to evaluate the model performance and XAI consistency metrics showing cloud AI services trustworthiness. We collect provenance data from operational pipelines to enable reproducibility within the XAI service. Furthermore, we present the discovery scenarios for the experimental tests regarding model performance and XAI consistency metrics for the leading cloud vision AI services. The results confirm that the architecture, based on open APIs, is cloud-agnostic. Additionally, data augmentations result in measurable improvements in XAI consistency metrics for cloud AI services.

SwapText: Image Based Texts Transfer in Scenes

Qiangpeng Yang, Hongsheng Jin, Jun Huang et al.

Swapping text in scene images while preserving original fonts, colors, sizes and background textures is a challenging task due to the complex interplay between different factors. In this work, we present SwapText, a three-stage framework to transfer texts across scene images. First, a novel text swapping network is proposed to replace text labels only in the foreground image. Second, a background completion network is learned to reconstruct background images. Finally, the generated foreground image and background image are used to generate the word image by the fusion network. Using the proposing framework, we can manipulate the texts of the input images even with severe geometric distortion. Qualitative and quantitative results are presented on several scene text datasets, including regular and irregular text datasets. We conducted extensive experiments to prove the usefulness of our method such as image based text translation, text image synthesis, etc.
