Fine-grained Image-to-LiDAR Contrastive Distillation with Visual Foundation Models

Yifan Zhang, Junhui Hou

Contrastive image-to-LiDAR knowledge transfer, commonly used for learning 3D representations with synchronized images and point clouds, often faces a self-conflict dilemma. This issue arises as contrastive losses unintentionally dissociate features of unmatched points and pixels that share semantic labels, compromising the integrity of learned representations. To overcome this, we harness Visual Foundation Models (VFMs), which have revolutionized the acquisition of pixel-level semantics, to enhance 3D representation learning. Specifically, we utilize off-the-shelf VFMs to generate semantic labels for weakly-supervised pixel-to-point contrastive distillation. Additionally, we employ von Mises-Fisher distributions to structure the feature space, ensuring semantic embeddings within the same class remain consistent across varying inputs. Furthermore, we adapt sampling probabilities of points to address imbalances in spatial distribution and category frequency, promoting comprehensive and balanced learning. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach mitigates the challenges posed by traditional methods and consistently surpasses existing image-to-LiDAR contrastive distillation methods in downstream tasks. PATE-TripleGAN: Privacy-Preserving Image Synthesis with Gaussian Differential Privacy

Zepeng Jiang, Weiwei Ni, Yifan Zhang

Conditional Generative Adversarial Networks (CGANs) exhibit significant potential in supervised learning model training by virtue of their ability to generate realistic labeled images. However, numerous studies have indicated the privacy leakage risk in CGANs models. The solution DPCGAN, incorporating the differential privacy framework, faces challenges such as heavy reliance on labeled data for model training and potential disruptions to original gradient information due to excessive gradient clipping, making it difficult to ensure model accuracy. To address these challenges, we present a privacy-preserving training framework called PATE-TripleGAN. This framework incorporates a classifier to pre-classify unlabeled data, establishing a three-party min-max game to reduce dependence on labeled data. Furthermore, we present a hybrid gradient desensitization algorithm based on the Private Aggregation of Teacher Ensembles (PATE) framework and Differential Private Stochastic Gradient Descent (DPSGD) method. This algorithm allows the model to retain gradient information more effectively while ensuring privacy protection, thereby enhancing the model's utility. Privacy analysis and extensive experiments affirm that the PATE-TripleGAN model can generate a higher quality labeled image dataset while ensuring the privacy of the training data.

Improving Authorship Verification using Linguistic Divergence

Yifan Zhang, Dainis Boumber, Marjan Hosseinia et al.

We propose an unsupervised solution to the Authorship Verification task that utilizes pre-trained deep language models to compute a new metric called DV-Distance. The proposed metric is a measure of the difference between the two authors comparing against pre-trained language models. Our design addresses the problem of non-comparability in authorship verification, frequently encountered in small or cross-domain corpora. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first one to introduce a method designed with non-comparability in mind from the ground up, rather than indirectly. It is also one of the first to use Deep Language Models in this setting. The approach is intuitive, and it is easy to understand and interpret through visualization. Experiments on four datasets show our methods matching or surpassing current state-of-the-art and strong baselines in most tasks.
