Domain Generalized Stereo Matching with Uncertainty-guided Data AugmentationShuangli Du, Jing Wang, Minghua Zhao et al.
State-of-the-art stereo matching (SM) models trained on synthetic data often fail to generalize to real data domains due to domain differences, such as color, illumination, contrast, and texture. To address this challenge, we leverage data augmentation to expand the training domain, encouraging the model to acquire robust cross-domain feature representations instead of domain-dependent shortcuts. This paper proposes an uncertainty-guided data augmentation (UgDA) method, which argues that the image statistics in RGB space (mean and standard deviation) carry the domain characteristics. Thus, samples in unseen domains can be generated by properly perturbing these statistics. Furthermore, to simulate more potential domains, Gaussian distributions founded on batch-level statistics are poposed to model the unceratinty of perturbation direction and intensity. Additionally, we further enforce feature consistency between original and augmented data for the same scene, encouraging the model to learn structure aware, shortcuts-invariant feature representations. Our approach is simple, architecture-agnostic, and can be integrated into any SM networks. Extensive experiments on several challenging benchmarks have demonstrated that our method can significantly improve the generalization performance of existing SM networks.

A New Method in Facial Registration in Clinics Based on Structure Light ImagesPengfei Li, Ziyue Ma, Hong Wang et al.
Background and Objective: In neurosurgery, fusing clinical images and depth images that can improve the information and details is beneficial to surgery. We found that the registration of face depth images was invalid frequently using existing methods. To abundant traditional image methods with depth information, a method in registering with depth images and traditional clinical images was investigated. Methods: We used the dlib library, a C++ library that could be used in face recognition, and recognized the key points on faces from the structure light camera and CT image. The two key point clouds were registered for coarse registration by the ICP method. Fine registration was finished after coarse registration by the ICP method. Results: RMSE after coarse and fine registration is as low as 0.995913 mm. Compared with traditional methods, it also takes less time. Conclusions: The new method successfully registered the facial depth image from structure light images and CT with a low error, and that would be promising and efficient in clinical application of neurosurgery.
VisDrone-CC2020: The Vision Meets Drone Crowd Counting Challenge ResultsDawei Du, Longyin Wen, Pengfei Zhu et al.
Crowd counting on the drone platform is an interesting topic in computer vision, which brings new challenges such as small object inference, background clutter and wide viewpoint. However, there are few algorithms focusing on crowd counting on the drone-captured data due to the lack of comprehensive datasets. To this end, we collect a large-scale dataset and organize the Vision Meets Drone Crowd Counting Challenge (VisDrone-CC2020) in conjunction with the 16th European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV 2020) to promote the developments in the related fields. The collected dataset is formed by $3,360$ images, including $2,460$ images for training, and $900$ images for testing. Specifically, we manually annotate persons with points in each video frame. There are $14$ algorithms from $15$ institutes submitted to the VisDrone-CC2020 Challenge. We provide a detailed analysis of the evaluation results and conclude the challenge. PHI-MVS: Plane Hypothesis Inference Multi-view Stereo for Large-Scale Scene ReconstructionShang Sun, Yunan Zheng, Xuelei Shi et al.
PatchMatch based Multi-view Stereo (MVS) algorithms have achieved great success in large-scale scene reconstruction tasks. However, reconstruction of texture-less planes often fails as similarity measurement methods may become ineffective on these regions. Thus, a new plane hypothesis inference strategy is proposed to handle the above issue. The procedure consists of two steps: First, multiple plane hypotheses are generated using filtered initial depth maps on regions that are not successfully recovered; Second, depth hypotheses are selected using Markov Random Field (MRF). The strategy can significantly improve the completeness of reconstruction results with only acceptable computing time increasing. Besides, a new acceleration scheme similar to dilated convolution can speed up the depth map estimating process with only a slight influence on the reconstruction. We integrated the above ideas into a new MVS pipeline, Plane Hypothesis Inference Multi-view Stereo (PHI-MVS). The result of PHI-MVS is validated on ETH3D public benchmarks, and it demonstrates competing performance against the state-of-the-art.

Learning Structral coherence Via Generative Adversarial Network for Single Image Super-ResolutionYuanzhuo Li, Yunan Zheng, Jie Chen et al.
Among the major remaining challenges for single image super resolution (SISR) is the capacity to recover coherent images with global shapes and local details conforming to human vision system. Recent generative adversarial network (GAN) based SISR methods have yielded overall realistic SR images, however, there are always unpleasant textures accompanied with structural distortions in local regions. To target these issues, we introduce the gradient branch into the generator to preserve structural information by restoring high-resolution gradient maps in SR process. In addition, we utilize a U-net based discriminator to consider both the whole image and the detailed per-pixel authenticity, which could encourage the generator to maintain overall coherence of the reconstructed images. Moreover, we have studied objective functions and LPIPS perceptual loss is added to generate more realistic and natural details. Experimental results show that our proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art perceptual-driven SR methods in perception index (PI), and obtains more geometrically consistent and visually pleasing textures in natural image restoration.

AIM 2020 Challenge on Real Image Super-Resolution: Methods and ResultsPengxu Wei, Hannan Lu, Radu Timofte et al.
This paper introduces the real image Super-Resolution (SR) challenge that was part of the Advances in Image Manipulation (AIM) workshop, held in conjunction with ECCV 2020. This challenge involves three tracks to super-resolve an input image for $\times$2, $\times$3 and $\times$4 scaling factors, respectively. The goal is to attract more attention to realistic image degradation for the SR task, which is much more complicated and challenging, and contributes to real-world image super-resolution applications. 452 participants were registered for three tracks in total, and 24 teams submitted their results. They gauge the state-of-the-art approaches for real image SR in terms of PSNR and SSIM.

NTIRE 2020 Challenge on Perceptual Extreme Super-Resolution: Methods and ResultsKai Zhang, Shuhang Gu, Radu Timofte et al.
This paper reviews the NTIRE 2020 challenge on perceptual extreme super-resolution with focus on proposed solutions and results. The challenge task was to super-resolve an input image with a magnification factor 16 based on a set of prior examples of low and corresponding high resolution images. The goal is to obtain a network design capable to produce high resolution results with the best perceptual quality and similar to the ground truth. The track had 280 registered participants, and 19 teams submitted the final results. They gauge the state-of-the-art in single image super-resolution.
