Machine Learning-Enhanced Ant Colony Optimization for Column GenerationHongjie Xu, Yunzhuang Shen, Yuan Sun et al.
Column generation (CG) is a powerful technique for solving optimization problems that involve a large number of variables or columns. This technique begins by solving a smaller problem with a subset of columns and gradually generates additional columns as needed. However, the generation of columns often requires solving difficult subproblems repeatedly, which can be a bottleneck for CG. To address this challenge, we propose a novel method called machine learning enhanced ant colony optimization (MLACO), to efficiently generate multiple high-quality columns from a subproblem. Specifically, we train a ML model to predict the optimal solution of a subproblem, and then integrate this ML prediction into the probabilistic model of ACO to sample multiple high-quality columns. Our experimental results on the bin packing problem with conflicts show that the MLACO method significantly improves the performance of CG compared to several state-of-the-art methods. Furthermore, when our method is incorporated into a Branch-and-Price method, it leads to a significant reduction in solution time.

Confused Modulo Projection based Somewhat Homomorphic Encryption -- Cryptosystem, Library and Applications on Secure Smart CitiesXin Jin, Hongyu Zhang, Xiaodong Li et al.
With the development of cloud computing, the storage and processing of massive visual media data has gradually transferred to the cloud server. For example, if the intelligent video monitoring system cannot process a large amount of data locally, the data will be uploaded to the cloud. Therefore, how to process data in the cloud without exposing the original data has become an important research topic. We propose a single-server version of somewhat homomorphic encryption cryptosystem based on confused modulo projection theorem named CMP-SWHE, which allows the server to complete blind data processing without \emph{seeing} the effective information of user data. On the client side, the original data is encrypted by amplification, randomization, and setting confusing redundancy. Operating on the encrypted data on the server side is equivalent to operating on the original data. As an extension, we designed and implemented a blind computing scheme of accelerated version based on batch processing technology to improve efficiency. To make this algorithm easy to use, we also designed and implemented an efficient general blind computing library based on CMP-SWHE. We have applied this library to foreground extraction, optical flow tracking and object detection with satisfactory results, which are helpful for building smart cities. We also discuss how to extend the algorithm to deep learning applications. Compared with other homomorphic encryption cryptosystems and libraries, the results show that our method has obvious advantages in computing efficiency. Although our algorithm has some tiny errors ($10^{-6}$) when the data is too large, it is very efficient and practical, especially suitable for blind image and video processing.

Single Reference Image based Scene Relighting via Material Guided FilteringXin Jin, Yannan Li, Ningning Liu et al.
Image relighting is to change the illumination of an image to a target illumination effect without known the original scene geometry, material information and illumination condition. We propose a novel outdoor scene relighting method, which needs only a single reference image and is based on material constrained layer decomposition. Firstly, the material map is extracted from the input image. Then, the reference image is warped to the input image through patch match based image warping. Lastly, the input image is relit using material constrained layer decomposition. The experimental results reveal that our method can produce similar illumination effect as that of the reference image on the input image using only a single reference image.

Efficient Privacy Preserving Viola-Jones Type Object Detection via Random Base Image RepresentationXin Jin, Peng Yuan, Xiaodong Li et al.
A cloud server spent a lot of time, energy and money to train a Viola-Jones type object detector with high accuracy. Clients can upload their photos to the cloud server to find objects. However, the client does not want the leakage of the content of his/her photos. In the meanwhile, the cloud server is also reluctant to leak any parameters of the trained object detectors. 10 years ago, Avidan & Butman introduced Blind Vision, which is a method for securely evaluating a Viola-Jones type object detector. Blind Vision uses standard cryptographic tools and is painfully slow to compute, taking a couple of hours to scan a single image. The purpose of this work is to explore an efficient method that can speed up the process. We propose the Random Base Image (RBI) Representation. The original image is divided into random base images. Only the base images are submitted randomly to the cloud server. Thus, the content of the image can not be leaked. In the meanwhile, a random vector and the secure Millionaire protocol are leveraged to protect the parameters of the trained object detector. The RBI makes the integral-image enable again for the great acceleration. The experimental results reveal that our method can retain the detection accuracy of that of the plain vision algorithm and is significantly faster than the traditional blind vision, with only a very low probability of the information leakage theoretically.
