Multi-objective Deep Data Generation with Correlated Property ControlShiyu Wang, Xiaojie Guo, Xuanyang Lin et al.
Developing deep generative models has been an emerging field due to the ability to model and generate complex data for various purposes, such as image synthesis and molecular design. However, the advancement of deep generative models is limited by challenges to generate objects that possess multiple desired properties: 1) the existence of complex correlation among real-world properties is common but hard to identify; 2) controlling individual property enforces an implicit partially control of its correlated properties, which is difficult to model; 3) controlling multiple properties under various manners simultaneously is hard and under-explored. We address these challenges by proposing a novel deep generative framework that recovers semantics and the correlation of properties through disentangled latent vectors. The correlation is handled via an explainable mask pooling layer, and properties are precisely retained by generated objects via the mutual dependence between latent vectors and properties. Our generative model preserves properties of interest while handling correlation and conflicts of properties under a multi-objective optimization framework. The experiments demonstrate our model's superior performance in generating data with desired properties.
MOPI-HFRS: A Multi-objective Personalized Health-aware Food Recommendation System with LLM-enhanced InterpretationZheyuan Zhang, Zehong Wang, Tianyi Ma et al.
The prevalence of unhealthy eating habits has become an increasingly concerning issue in the United States. However, major food recommendation platforms (e.g., Yelp) continue to prioritize users' dietary preferences over the healthiness of their choices. Although efforts have been made to develop health-aware food recommendation systems, the personalization of such systems based on users' specific health conditions remains under-explored. In addition, few research focus on the interpretability of these systems, which hinders users from assessing the reliability of recommendations and impedes the practical deployment of these systems. In response to this gap, we first establish two large-scale personalized health-aware food recommendation benchmarks at the first attempt. We then develop a novel framework, Multi-Objective Personalized Interpretable Health-aware Food Recommendation System (MOPI-HFRS), which provides food recommendations by jointly optimizing the three objectives: user preference, personalized healthiness and nutritional diversity, along with an large language model (LLM)-enhanced reasoning module to promote healthy dietary knowledge through the interpretation of recommended results. Specifically, this holistic graph learning framework first utilizes two structure learning and a structure pooling modules to leverage both descriptive features and health data. Then it employs Pareto optimization to achieve designed multi-facet objectives. Finally, to further promote the healthy dietary knowledge and awareness, we exploit an LLM by utilizing knowledge-infusion, prompting the LLMs with knowledge obtained from the recommendation model for interpretation.

Toward a Human-Centered Evaluation Framework for Trustworthy LLM-Powered GUI AgentsChaoran Chen, Zhiping Zhang, Ibrahim Khalilov et al.
The rise of Large Language Models (LLMs) has revolutionized Graphical User Interface (GUI) automation through LLM-powered GUI agents, yet their ability to process sensitive data with limited human oversight raises significant privacy and security risks. This position paper identifies three key risks of GUI agents and examines how they differ from traditional GUI automation and general autonomous agents. Despite these risks, existing evaluations focus primarily on performance, leaving privacy and security assessments largely unexplored. We review current evaluation metrics for both GUI and general LLM agents and outline five key challenges in integrating human evaluators for GUI agent assessments. To address these gaps, we advocate for a human-centered evaluation framework that incorporates risk assessments, enhances user awareness through in-context consent, and embeds privacy and security considerations into GUI agent design and evaluation.
CoTexT: Multi-task Learning with Code-Text TransformerLong Phan, Hieu Tran, Daniel Le et al.
We present CoTexT, a pre-trained, transformer-based encoder-decoder model that learns the representative context between natural language (NL) and programming language (PL). Using self-supervision, CoTexT is pre-trained on large programming language corpora to learn a general understanding of language and code. CoTexT supports downstream NL-PL tasks such as code summarizing/documentation, code generation, defect detection, and code debugging. We train CoTexT on different combinations of available PL corpus including both "bimodal" and "unimodal" data. Here, bimodal data is the combination of text and corresponding code snippets, whereas unimodal data is merely code snippets. We first evaluate CoTexT with multi-task learning: we perform Code Summarization on 6 different programming languages and Code Refinement on both small and medium size featured in the CodeXGLUE dataset. We further conduct extensive experiments to investigate CoTexT on other tasks within the CodeXGlue dataset, including Code Generation and Defect Detection. We consistently achieve SOTA results in these tasks, demonstrating the versatility of our models.

Arms Race in Adversarial Malware Detection: A SurveyDeqiang Li, Qianmu Li, Yanfang Ye et al.
Malicious software (malware) is a major cyber threat that has to be tackled with Machine Learning (ML) techniques because millions of new malware examples are injected into cyberspace on a daily basis. However, ML is vulnerable to attacks known as adversarial examples. In this paper, we survey and systematize the field of Adversarial Malware Detection (AMD) through the lens of a unified conceptual framework of assumptions, attacks, defenses, and security properties. This not only leads us to map attacks and defenses to partial order structures, but also allows us to clearly describe the attack-defense arms race in the AMD context. We draw a number of insights, including: knowing the defender's feature set is critical to the success of transfer attacks; the effectiveness of practical evasion attacks largely depends on the attacker's freedom in conducting manipulations in the problem space; knowing the attacker's manipulation set is critical to the defender's success; the effectiveness of adversarial training depends on the defender's capability in identifying the most powerful attack. We also discuss a number of future research directions.

Joint Demosaicing and Super-Resolution (JDSR): Network Design and Perceptual OptimizationXuan Xu, Yanfang Ye, Xin Li
Image demosaicing and super-resolution are two important tasks in color imaging pipeline. So far they have been mostly independently studied in the open literature of deep learning; little is known about the potential benefit of formulating a joint demosaicing and super-resolution (JDSR) problem. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end optimization solution to the JDSR problem and demonstrate its practical significance in computational imaging. Our technical contributions are mainly two-fold. On network design, we have developed a Residual-Dense Squeeze-and-Excitation Networks (RDSEN) supported by a pre-demosaicing network (PDNet) as the pre-processing step. We address the issue of spatio-spectral attention for color-filter-array (CFA) data and discuss how to achieve better information flow by concatenating Residue-Dense Squeeze-and-Excitation Blocks (RDSEBs) for JDSR. Experimental results have shown that significant PSNR/SSIM gain can be achieved by RDSEN over previous network architectures including state-of-the-art RCAN. On perceptual optimization, we propose to leverage the latest ideas including relativistic discriminator and pre-excitation perceptual loss function to further improve the visual quality of textured regions in reconstructed images. Our extensive experiment results have shown that Texture-enhanced Relativistic average Generative Adversarial Network (TRaGAN) can produce both subjectively more pleasant images and objectively lower perceptual distortion scores than standard GAN for JDSR. Finally, we have verified the benefit of JDSR to high-quality image reconstruction from real-world Bayer pattern data collected by NASA Mars Curiosity.

AiDroid: When Heterogeneous Information Network Marries Deep Neural Network for Real-time Android Malware DetectionYanfang Ye, Shifu Hou, Lingwei Chen et al.
The explosive growth and increasing sophistication of Android malware call for new defensive techniques that are capable of protecting mobile users against novel threats. In this paper, we first extract the runtime Application Programming Interface (API) call sequences from Android apps, and then analyze higher-level semantic relations within the ecosystem to comprehensively characterize the apps. To model different types of entities (i.e., app, API, IMEI, signature, affiliation) and the rich semantic relations among them, we then construct a structural heterogeneous information network (HIN) and present meta-path based approach to depict the relatedness over apps. To efficiently classify nodes (e.g., apps) in the constructed HIN, we propose the HinLearning method to first obtain in-sample node embeddings and then learn representations of out-of-sample nodes without rerunning/adjusting HIN embeddings at the first attempt. Afterwards, we design a deep neural network (DNN) classifier taking the learned HIN representations as inputs for Android malware detection. A comprehensive experimental study on the large-scale real sample collections from Tencent Security Lab is performed to compare various baselines. Promising experimental results demonstrate that our developed system AiDroid which integrates our proposed method outperforms others in real-time Android malware detection. AiDroid has already been incorporated into Tencent Mobile Security product that serves millions of users worldwide.
