Enhancing Dual-Encoders with Question and Answer Cross-Embeddings for Answer Retrieval

Yanmeng Wang, Jun Bai, Ye Wang et al.

Dual-Encoders is a promising mechanism for answer retrieval in question answering (QA) systems. Currently most conventional Dual-Encoders learn the semantic representations of questions and answers merely through matching score. Researchers proposed to introduce the QA interaction features in scoring function but at the cost of low efficiency in inference stage. To keep independent encoding of questions and answers during inference stage, variational auto-encoder is further introduced to reconstruct answers (questions) from question (answer) embeddings as an auxiliary task to enhance QA interaction in representation learning in training stage. However, the needs of text generation and answer retrieval are different, which leads to hardness in training. In this work, we propose a framework to enhance the Dual-Encoders model with question answer cross-embeddings and a novel Geometry Alignment Mechanism (GAM) to align the geometry of embeddings from Dual-Encoders with that from Cross-Encoders. Extensive experimental results show that our framework significantly improves Dual-Encoders model and outperforms the state-of-the-art method on multiple answer retrieval datasets.

TGAVC: Improving Autoencoder Voice Conversion with Text-Guided and Adversarial Training

Huaizhen Tang, Xulong Zhang, Jianzong Wang et al.

Non-parallel many-to-many voice conversion remains an interesting but challenging speech processing task. Recently, AutoVC, a conditional autoencoder based method, achieved excellent conversion results by disentangling the speaker identity and the speech content using information-constraining bottlenecks. However, due to the pure autoencoder training method, it is difficult to evaluate the separation effect of content and speaker identity. In this paper, a novel voice conversion framework, named $\boldsymbol T$ext $\boldsymbol G$uided $\boldsymbol A$utoVC(TGAVC), is proposed to more effectively separate content and timbre from speech, where an expected content embedding produced based on the text transcriptions is designed to guide the extraction of voice content. In addition, the adversarial training is applied to eliminate the speaker identity information in the estimated content embedding extracted from speech. Under the guidance of the expected content embedding and the adversarial training, the content encoder is trained to extract speaker-independent content embedding from speech. Experiments on AIShell-3 dataset show that the proposed model outperforms AutoVC in terms of naturalness and similarity of converted speech.

Data-free Knowledge Distillation with Diffusion Models

Xiaohua Qi, Renda Li, Long Peng et al.

Recently Data-Free Knowledge Distillation (DFKD) has garnered attention and can transfer knowledge from a teacher neural network to a student neural network without requiring any access to training data. Although diffusion models are adept at synthesizing high-fidelity photorealistic images across various domains, existing methods cannot be easiliy implemented to DFKD. To bridge that gap, this paper proposes a novel approach based on diffusion models, DiffDFKD. Specifically, DiffDFKD involves targeted optimizations in two key areas. Firstly, DiffDFKD utilizes valuable information from teacher models to guide the pre-trained diffusion models' data synthesis, generating datasets that mirror the training data distribution and effectively bridge domain gaps. Secondly, to reduce computational burdens, DiffDFKD introduces Latent CutMix Augmentation, an efficient technique, to enhance the diversity of diffusion model-generated images for DFKD while preserving key attributes for effective knowledge transfer. Extensive experiments validate the efficacy of DiffDFKD, yielding state-of-the-art results exceeding existing DFKD approaches. We release our code at https://github.com/xhqi0109/DiffDFKD.

Efficient Multi-Model Fusion with Adversarial Complementary Representation Learning

Zuheng Kang, Yayun He, Jianzong Wang et al.

Single-model systems often suffer from deficiencies in tasks such as speaker verification (SV) and image classification, relying heavily on partial prior knowledge during decision-making, resulting in suboptimal performance. Although multi-model fusion (MMF) can mitigate some of these issues, redundancy in learned representations may limits improvements. To this end, we propose an adversarial complementary representation learning (ACoRL) framework that enables newly trained models to avoid previously acquired knowledge, allowing each individual component model to learn maximally distinct, complementary representations. We make three detailed explanations of why this works and experimental results demonstrate that our method more efficiently improves performance compared to traditional MMF. Furthermore, attribution analysis validates the model trained under ACoRL acquires more complementary knowledge, highlighting the efficacy of our approach in enhancing efficiency and robustness across tasks.

An Alignment-Agnostic Model for Chinese Text Error Correction

Liying Zheng, Yue Deng, Weishun Song et al.

This paper investigates how to correct Chinese text errors with types of mistaken, missing and redundant characters, which is common for Chinese native speakers. Most existing models based on detect-correct framework can correct mistaken characters errors, but they cannot deal with missing or redundant characters. The reason is that lengths of sentences before and after correction are not the same, leading to the inconsistence between model inputs and outputs. Although the Seq2Seq-based or sequence tagging methods provide solutions to the problem and achieved relatively good results on English context, but they do not perform well in Chinese context according to our experimental results. In our work, we propose a novel detect-correct framework which is alignment-agnostic, meaning that it can handle both text aligned and non-aligned occasions, and it can also serve as a cold start model when there are no annotated data provided. Experimental results on three datasets demonstrate that our method is effective and achieves the best performance among existing published models.

A Robust Speaker Clustering Method Based on Discrete Tied Variational Autoencoder

Chen Feng, Jianzong Wang, Tongxu Li et al.

Recently, the speaker clustering model based on aggregation hierarchy cluster (AHC) is a common method to solve two main problems: no preset category number clustering and fix category number clustering. In general, model takes features like i-vectors as input of probability and linear discriminant analysis model (PLDA) aims to form the distance matric in long voice application scenario, and then clustering results are obtained through the clustering model. However, traditional speaker clustering method based on AHC has the shortcomings of long-time running and remains sensitive to environment noise. In this paper, we propose a novel speaker clustering method based on Mutual Information (MI) and a non-linear model with discrete variable, which under the enlightenment of Tied Variational Autoencoder (TVAE), to enhance the robustness against noise. The proposed method named Discrete Tied Variational Autoencoder (DTVAE) which shortens the elapsed time substantially. With experience results, it outperforms the general model and yields a relative Accuracy (ACC) improvement and significant time reduction.
