LAMBDA: Covering the Multimodal Critical Scenarios for Automated Driving Systems by Search Space Quantization

Xinzheng Wu, Junyi Chen, Xingyu Xing et al.

Scenario-based virtual testing is one of the most significant methods to test and evaluate the safety of automated driving systems (ADSs). However, it is impractical to enumerate all concrete scenarios in a logical scenario space and test them exhaustively. Recently, Black-Box Optimization (BBO) was introduced to accelerate the scenario-based test of ADSs by utilizing the historical test information to generate new test cases. However, a single optimum found by the BBO algorithm is insufficient for the purpose of a comprehensive safety evaluation of ADSs in a logical scenario. In fact, all the subspaces representing danger in the logical scenario space, rather than only the most critical concrete scenario, play a more significant role for the safety evaluation. Covering as many of the critical concrete scenarios in a logical scenario space through a limited number of tests is defined as the Black-Box Coverage (BBC) problem in this paper. We formalized this problem in a sample-based search paradigm and constructed a coverage criterion with Confusion Matrix Analysis. Furthermore, we propose LAMBDA (Latent-Action Monte-Carlo Beam Search with Density Adaption) to solve BBC problems. LAMBDA can quickly focus on critical subspaces by recursively partitioning the logical scenario space into accepted and rejected parts. Compared with its predecessor LaMCTS, LAMBDA introduces sampling density to overcome the sampling bias from optimization and Beam Search to obtain more parallelizability. Experimental results show that LAMBDA achieves state-of-the-art performance among all baselines and can reach at most 33 and 6000 times faster than Random Search to get 95% coverage of the critical areas in 2- and 5-dimensional synthetic functions, respectively. Experiments also demonstrate that LAMBDA has a promising future in the safety evaluation of ADSs in virtual tests.

Efficient Re-parameterization Residual Attention Network For Nonhomogeneous Image Dehazing

Tian Ye, ErKang Chen, XinRui Huang et al.

This paper proposes an end-to-end Efficient Re-parameterizationResidual Attention Network(ERRA-Net) to directly restore the nonhomogeneous hazy image. The contribution of this paper mainly has the following three aspects: 1) A novel Multi-branch Attention (MA) block. The spatial attention mechanism better reconstructs high-frequency features, and the channel attention mechanism treats the features of different channels differently. Multi-branch structure dramatically improves the representation ability of the model and can be changed into a single path structure after re-parameterization to speed up the process of inference. Local Residual Connection allows the low-frequency information in the nonhomogeneous area to pass through the block without processing so that the block can focus on detailed features. 2) A lightweight network structure. We use cascaded MA blocks to extract high-frequency features step by step, and the Multi-layer attention fusion tail combines the shallow and deep features of the model to get the residual of the clean image finally. 3)We propose two novel loss functions to help reconstruct the hazy image ColorAttenuation loss and Laplace Pyramid loss. ERRA-Net has an impressive speed, processing 1200x1600 HD quality images with an average runtime of 166.11 fps. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that ERSANet performs favorably against the SOTA approaches on the real-world hazy images.

VisDrone-CC2020: The Vision Meets Drone Crowd Counting Challenge Results

Dawei Du, Longyin Wen, Pengfei Zhu et al.

Crowd counting on the drone platform is an interesting topic in computer vision, which brings new challenges such as small object inference, background clutter and wide viewpoint. However, there are few algorithms focusing on crowd counting on the drone-captured data due to the lack of comprehensive datasets. To this end, we collect a large-scale dataset and organize the Vision Meets Drone Crowd Counting Challenge (VisDrone-CC2020) in conjunction with the 16th European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV 2020) to promote the developments in the related fields. The collected dataset is formed by $3,360$ images, including $2,460$ images for training, and $900$ images for testing. Specifically, we manually annotate persons with points in each video frame. There are $14$ algorithms from $15$ institutes submitted to the VisDrone-CC2020 Challenge. We provide a detailed analysis of the evaluation results and conclude the challenge. Aligning Videos in Space and Time

Senthil Purushwalkam, Tian Ye, Saurabh Gupta et al.

In this paper, we focus on the task of extracting visual correspondences across videos. Given a query video clip from an action class, we aim to align it with training videos in space and time. Obtaining training data for such a fine-grained alignment task is challenging and often ambiguous. Hence, we propose a novel alignment procedure that learns such correspondence in space and time via cross video cycle-consistency. During training, given a pair of videos, we compute cycles that connect patches in a given frame in the first video by matching through frames in the second video. Cycles that connect overlapping patches together are encouraged to score higher than cycles that connect non-overlapping patches. Our experiments on the Penn Action and Pouring datasets demonstrate that the proposed method can successfully learn to correspond semantically similar patches across videos, and learns representations that are sensitive to object and action states.
