Neural Processes with Stochastic Attention: Paying more attention to the context datasetMingyu Kim, Kyeongryeol Go, Se-Young Yun
Neural processes (NPs) aim to stochastically complete unseen data points based on a given context dataset. NPs essentially leverage a given dataset as a context representation to derive a suitable identifier for a novel task. To improve the prediction accuracy, many variants of NPs have investigated context embedding approaches that generally design novel network architectures and aggregation functions satisfying permutation invariant. In this work, we propose a stochastic attention mechanism for NPs to capture appropriate context information. From the perspective of information theory, we demonstrate that the proposed method encourages context embedding to be differentiated from a target dataset, allowing NPs to consider features in a target dataset and context embedding independently. We observe that the proposed method can appropriately capture context embedding even under noisy data sets and restricted task distributions, where typical NPs suffer from a lack of context embeddings. We empirically show that our approach substantially outperforms conventional NPs in various domains through 1D regression, predator-prey model, and image completion. Moreover, the proposed method is also validated by MovieLens-10k dataset, a real-world problem.

"I see models being a whole other thing": An Empirical Study of Pre-Trained Model Naming Conventions and A Tool for Enhancing Naming ConsistencyWenxin Jiang, Mingyu Kim, Chingwo Cheung et al.
As innovation in deep learning continues, many engineers are incorporating Pre-Trained Models (PTMs) as components in computer systems. Some PTMs are foundation models, and others are fine-tuned variations adapted to different needs. When these PTMs are named well, it facilitates model discovery and reuse. However, prior research has shown that model names are not always well chosen and can sometimes be inaccurate and misleading. The naming practices for PTM packages have not been systematically studied, which hampers engineers' ability to efficiently search for and reliably reuse these models. In this paper, we conduct the first empirical investigation of PTM naming practices in the Hugging Face PTM registry. We begin by reporting on a survey of 108 Hugging Face users, highlighting differences from traditional software package naming and presenting findings on PTM naming practices. The survey results indicate a mismatch between engineers' preferences and current practices in PTM naming. We then introduce DARA, the first automated DNN ARchitecture Assessment technique designed to detect PTM naming inconsistencies. Our results demonstrate that architectural information alone is sufficient to detect these inconsistencies, achieving an accuracy of 94% in identifying model types and promising performance (over 70%) in other architectural metadata as well. We also highlight potential use cases for automated naming tools, such as model validation, PTM metadata generation and verification, and plagiarism detection. Our study provides a foundation for automating naming inconsistency detection. Finally, we envision future work focusing on automated tools for standardizing package naming, improving model selection and reuse, and strengthening the security of the PTM supply chain.

The StarCraft Multi-Agent Challenges+ : Learning of Multi-Stage Tasks and Environmental Factors without Precise Reward FunctionsMingyu Kim, Jihwan Oh, Yongsik Lee et al.
In this paper, we propose a novel benchmark called the StarCraft Multi-Agent Challenges+, where agents learn to perform multi-stage tasks and to use environmental factors without precise reward functions. The previous challenges (SMAC) recognized as a standard benchmark of Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning are mainly concerned with ensuring that all agents cooperatively eliminate approaching adversaries only through fine manipulation with obvious reward functions. This challenge, on the other hand, is interested in the exploration capability of MARL algorithms to efficiently learn implicit multi-stage tasks and environmental factors as well as micro-control. This study covers both offensive and defensive scenarios. In the offensive scenarios, agents must learn to first find opponents and then eliminate them. The defensive scenarios require agents to use topographic features. For example, agents need to position themselves behind protective structures to make it harder for enemies to attack. We investigate MARL algorithms under SMAC+ and observe that recent approaches work well in similar settings to the previous challenges, but misbehave in offensive scenarios. Additionally, we observe that an enhanced exploration approach has a positive effect on performance but is not able to completely solve all scenarios. This study proposes new directions for future research.

Factorized Multi-Resolution HashGrid for Efficient Neural Radiance Fields: Execution on Edge-DevicesKim Jun-Seong, Mingyu Kim, GeonU Kim et al.
We introduce Fact-Hash, a novel parameter-encoding method for training on-device neural radiance fields. Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) have proven pivotal in 3D representations, but their applications are limited due to large computational resources. On-device training can open large application fields, providing strength in communication limitations, privacy concerns, and fast adaptation to a frequently changing scene. However, challenges such as limited resources (GPU memory, storage, and power) impede their deployment. To handle this, we introduce Fact-Hash, a novel parameter-encoding merging Tensor Factorization and Hash-encoding techniques. This integration offers two benefits: the use of rich high-resolution features and the few-shot robustness. In Fact-Hash, we project 3D coordinates into multiple lower-dimensional forms (2D or 1D) before applying the hash function and then aggregate them into a single feature. Comparative evaluations against state-of-the-art methods demonstrate Fact-Hash's superior memory efficiency, preserving quality and rendering speed. Fact-Hash saves memory usage by over one-third while maintaining the PSNR values compared to previous encoding methods. The on-device experiment validates the superiority of Fact-Hash compared to alternative positional encoding methods in computational efficiency and energy consumption. These findings highlight Fact-Hash as a promising solution to improve feature grid representation, address memory constraints, and improve quality in various applications. Safety-Guided Flow (SGF): A Unified Framework for Negative Guidance in Safe GenerationMingyu Kim, Young-Heon Kim, Mijung Park
Safety mechanisms for diffusion and flow models have recently been developed along two distinct paths. In robot planning, control barrier functions are employed to guide generative trajectories away from obstacles at every denoising step by explicitly imposing geometric constraints. In parallel, recent data-driven, negative guidance approaches have been shown to suppress harmful content and promote diversity in generated samples. However, they rely on heuristics without clearly stating when safety guidance is actually necessary. In this paper, we first introduce a unified probabilistic framework using a Maximum Mean Discrepancy (MMD) potential for image generation tasks that recasts both Shielded Diffusion and Safe Denoiser as instances of our energy-based negative guidance against unsafe data samples. Furthermore, we leverage control-barrier functions analysis to justify the existence of a critical time window in which negative guidance must be strong; outside of this window, the guidance should decay to zero to ensure safe and high-quality generation. We evaluate our unified framework on several realistic safe generation scenarios, confirming that negative guidance should be applied in the early stages of the denoising process for successful safe generation.

Training-Free Safe Denoisers for Safe Use of Diffusion ModelsMingyu Kim, Dongjun Kim, Amman Yusuf et al.
There is growing concern over the safety of powerful diffusion models (DMs), as they are often misused to produce inappropriate, not-safe-for-work (NSFW) content or generate copyrighted material or data of individuals who wish to be forgotten. Many existing methods tackle these issues by heavily relying on text-based negative prompts or extensively retraining DMs to eliminate certain features or samples. In this paper, we take a radically different approach, directly modifying the sampling trajectory by leveraging a negation set (e.g., unsafe images, copyrighted data, or datapoints needed to be excluded) to avoid specific regions of data distribution, without needing to retrain or fine-tune DMs. We formally derive the relationship between the expected denoised samples that are safe and those that are not safe, leading to our $\textit{safe}$ denoiser which ensures its final samples are away from the area to be negated. Inspired by the derivation, we develop a practical algorithm that successfully produces high-quality samples while avoiding negation areas of the data distribution in text-conditional, class-conditional, and unconditional image generation scenarios. These results hint at the great potential of our training-free safe denoiser for using DMs more safely.

Advancing Jailbreak Strategies: A Hybrid Approach to Exploiting LLM Vulnerabilities and Bypassing Modern DefensesMohamed Ahmed, Mohamed Abdelmouty, Mingyu Kim et al.
The advancement of Pre-Trained Language Models (PTLMs) and Large Language Models (LLMs) has led to their widespread adoption across diverse applications. Despite their success, these models remain vulnerable to attacks that exploit their inherent weaknesses to bypass safety measures. Two primary inference-phase threats are token-level and prompt-level jailbreaks. Token-level attacks embed adversarial sequences that transfer well to black-box models like GPT but leave detectable patterns and rely on gradient-based token optimization, whereas prompt-level attacks use semantically structured inputs to elicit harmful responses yet depend on iterative feedback that can be unreliable. To address the complementary limitations of these methods, we propose two hybrid approaches that integrate token- and prompt-level techniques to enhance jailbreak effectiveness across diverse PTLMs. GCG + PAIR and the newly explored GCG + WordGame hybrids were evaluated across multiple Vicuna and Llama models. GCG + PAIR consistently raised attack-success rates over its constituent techniques on undefended models; for instance, on Llama-3, its Attack Success Rate (ASR) reached 91.6%, a substantial increase from PAIR's 58.4% baseline. Meanwhile, GCG + WordGame matched the raw performance of WordGame maintaining a high ASR of over 80% even under stricter evaluators like Mistral-Sorry-Bench. Crucially, both hybrids retained transferability and reliably pierced advanced defenses such as Gradient Cuff and JBShield, which fully blocked single-mode attacks. These findings expose previously unreported vulnerabilities in current safety stacks, highlight trade-offs between raw success and defensive robustness, and underscore the need for holistic safeguards against adaptive adversaries.

SteeringTTA: Guiding Diffusion Trajectories for Robust Test-Time-AdaptationJihyun Yu, Yoojin Oh, Wonho Bae et al.
Test-time adaptation (TTA) aims to correct performance degradation of deep models under distribution shifts by updating models or inputs using unlabeled test data. Input-only diffusion-based TTA methods improve robustness for classification to corruptions but rely on gradient guidance, limiting exploration and generalization across distortion types. We propose SteeringTTA, an inference-only framework that adapts Feynman-Kac steering to guide diffusion-based input adaptation for classification with rewards driven by pseudo-label. SteeringTTA maintains multiple particle trajectories, steered by a combination of cumulative top-K probabilities and an entropy schedule, to balance exploration and confidence. On ImageNet-C, SteeringTTA consistently outperforms the baseline without any model updates or source data.

Outlier Detection of Poisson-Distributed Targets Using a Seabed Sensor NetworkMingyu Kim, Daniel Stilwell, Jorge Jimenez
This paper presents a framework for classifying and detecting spatial commission outliers in maritime environments using seabed acoustic sensor networks and log Gaussian Cox processes (LGCPs). By modeling target arrivals as a mixture of normal and outlier processes, we estimate the probability that a newly observed event is an outlier. We propose a second-order approximation of this probability that incorporates both the mean and variance of the normal intensity function, providing improved classification accuracy compared to mean-only approaches. We analytically show that our method yields a tighter bound to the true probability using Jensen's inequality. To enhance detection, we integrate a real-time, near-optimal sensor placement strategy that dynamically adjusts sensor locations based on the evolving outlier intensity. The proposed framework is validated using real ship traffic data near Norfolk, Virginia, where numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in improving both classification performance and outlier detection through sensor deployment.

Bayesian Principles Improve Prompt Learning In Vision-Language ModelsMingyu Kim, Jongwoo Ko, Mijung Park
Prompt learning is a popular fine-tuning method for vision-language models due to its efficiency. It requires a small number of additional learnable parameters while significantly enhancing performance on target tasks. However, most existing methods suffer from overfitting to fine-tuning data, yielding poor generalizability. To address this, we propose a new training objective function based on a Bayesian learning principle to balance adaptability and generalizability. We derive a prior over the logits, where the mean function is parameterized by the pre-trained model, while the posterior corresponds to the fine-tuned model. This objective establishes a balance by allowing the fine-tuned model to adapt to downstream tasks while remaining close to the pre-trained model.

Synergistic Integration of Coordinate Network and Tensorial Feature for Improving Neural Radiance Fields from Sparse InputsMingyu Kim, Jun-Seong Kim, Se-Young Yun et al.
The multi-plane representation has been highlighted for its fast training and inference across static and dynamic neural radiance fields. This approach constructs relevant features via projection onto learnable grids and interpolating adjacent vertices. However, it has limitations in capturing low-frequency details and tends to overuse parameters for low-frequency features due to its bias toward fine details, despite its multi-resolution concept. This phenomenon leads to instability and inefficiency when training poses are sparse. In this work, we propose a method that synergistically integrates multi-plane representation with a coordinate-based MLP network known for strong bias toward low-frequency signals. The coordinate-based network is responsible for capturing low-frequency details, while the multi-plane representation focuses on capturing fine-grained details. We demonstrate that using residual connections between them seamlessly preserves their own inherent properties. Additionally, the proposed progressive training scheme accelerates the disentanglement of these two features. We demonstrate empirically that our proposed method not only outperforms baseline models for both static and dynamic NeRFs with sparse inputs, but also achieves comparable results with fewer parameters.
