AudioGPT: Understanding and Generating Speech, Music, Sound, and Talking HeadRongjie Huang, Mingze Li, Dongchao Yang et al.
Large language models (LLMs) have exhibited remarkable capabilities across a variety of domains and tasks, challenging our understanding of learning and cognition. Despite the recent success, current LLMs are not capable of processing complex audio information or conducting spoken conversations (like Siri or Alexa). In this work, we propose a multi-modal AI system named AudioGPT, which complements LLMs (i.e., ChatGPT) with 1) foundation models to process complex audio information and solve numerous understanding and generation tasks; and 2) the input/output interface (ASR, TTS) to support spoken dialogue. With an increasing demand to evaluate multi-modal LLMs of human intention understanding and cooperation with foundation models, we outline the principles and processes and test AudioGPT in terms of consistency, capability, and robustness. Experimental results demonstrate the capabilities of AudioGPT in solving AI tasks with speech, music, sound, and talking head understanding and generation in multi-round dialogues, which empower humans to create rich and diverse audio content with unprecedented ease. Dict-TTS: Learning to Pronounce with Prior Dictionary Knowledge for Text-to-SpeechZiyue Jiang, Zhe Su, Zhou Zhao et al. · cmu
Polyphone disambiguation aims to capture accurate pronunciation knowledge from natural text sequences for reliable Text-to-speech (TTS) systems. However, previous approaches require substantial annotated training data and additional efforts from language experts, making it difficult to extend high-quality neural TTS systems to out-of-domain daily conversations and countless languages worldwide. This paper tackles the polyphone disambiguation problem from a concise and novel perspective: we propose Dict-TTS, a semantic-aware generative text-to-speech model with an online website dictionary (the existing prior information in the natural language). Specifically, we design a semantics-to-pronunciation attention (S2PA) module to match the semantic patterns between the input text sequence and the prior semantics in the dictionary and obtain the corresponding pronunciations; The S2PA module can be easily trained with the end-to-end TTS model without any annotated phoneme labels. Experimental results in three languages show that our model outperforms several strong baseline models in terms of pronunciation accuracy and improves the prosody modeling of TTS systems. A Study of Syntactic Multi-Modality in Non-Autoregressive Machine TranslationKexun Zhang, Rui Wang, Xu Tan et al. · microsoft-research
It is difficult for non-autoregressive translation (NAT) models to capture the multi-modal distribution of target translations due to their conditional independence assumption, which is known as the "multi-modality problem", including the lexical multi-modality and the syntactic multi-modality. While the first one has been well studied, the syntactic multi-modality brings severe challenge to the standard cross entropy (XE) loss in NAT and is under studied. In this paper, we conduct a systematic study on the syntactic multi-modality problem. Specifically, we decompose it into short- and long-range syntactic multi-modalities and evaluate several recent NAT algorithms with advanced loss functions on both carefully designed synthesized datasets and real datasets. We find that the Connectionist Temporal Classification (CTC) loss and the Order-Agnostic Cross Entropy (OAXE) loss can better handle short- and long-range syntactic multi-modalities respectively. Furthermore, we take the best of both and design a new loss function to better handle the complicated syntactic multi-modality in real-world datasets. To facilitate practical usage, we provide a guide to use different loss functions for different kinds of syntactic multi-modality.

DA$^2$ Dataset: Toward Dexterity-Aware Dual-Arm GraspingGuangyao Zhai, Yu Zheng, Ziwei Xu et al.
In this paper, we introduce DA$^2$, the first large-scale dual-arm dexterity-aware dataset for the generation of optimal bimanual grasping pairs for arbitrary large objects. The dataset contains about 9M pairs of parallel-jaw grasps, generated from more than 6000 objects and each labeled with various grasp dexterity measures. In addition, we propose an end-to-end dual-arm grasp evaluation model trained on the rendered scenes from this dataset. We utilize the evaluation model as our baseline to show the value of this novel and nontrivial dataset by both online analysis and real robot experiments. Mega-TTS: Zero-Shot Text-to-Speech at Scale with Intrinsic Inductive BiasZiyue Jiang, Yi Ren, Zhenhui Ye et al.
Scaling text-to-speech to a large and wild dataset has been proven to be highly effective in achieving timbre and speech style generalization, particularly in zero-shot TTS. However, previous works usually encode speech into latent using audio codec and use autoregressive language models or diffusion models to generate it, which ignores the intrinsic nature of speech and may lead to inferior or uncontrollable results. We argue that speech can be decomposed into several attributes (e.g., content, timbre, prosody, and phase) and each of them should be modeled using a module with appropriate inductive biases. From this perspective, we carefully design a novel and large zero-shot TTS system called Mega-TTS, which is trained with large-scale wild data and models different attributes in different ways: 1) Instead of using latent encoded by audio codec as the intermediate feature, we still choose spectrogram as it separates the phase and other attributes very well. Phase can be appropriately constructed by the GAN-based vocoder and does not need to be modeled by the language model. 2) We model the timbre using global vectors since timbre is a global attribute that changes slowly over time. 3) We further use a VQGAN-based acoustic model to generate the spectrogram and a latent code language model to fit the distribution of prosody, since prosody changes quickly over time in a sentence, and language models can capture both local and long-range dependencies. We scale Mega-TTS to multi-domain datasets with 20K hours of speech and evaluate its performance on unseen speakers. Experimental results demonstrate that Mega-TTS surpasses state-of-the-art TTS systems on zero-shot TTS, speech editing, and cross-lingual TTS tasks, with superior naturalness, robustness, and speaker similarity due to the proper inductive bias of each module. Detector Guidance for Multi-Object Text-to-Image GenerationLuping Liu, Zijian Zhang, Yi Ren et al.
Diffusion models have demonstrated impressive performance in text-to-image generation. They utilize a text encoder and cross-attention blocks to infuse textual information into images at a pixel level. However, their capability to generate images with text containing multiple objects is still restricted. Previous works identify the problem of information mixing in the CLIP text encoder and introduce the T5 text encoder or incorporate strong prior knowledge to assist with the alignment. We find that mixing problems also occur on the image side and in the cross-attention blocks. The noisy images can cause different objects to appear similar, and the cross-attention blocks inject information at a pixel level, leading to leakage of global object understanding and resulting in object mixing. In this paper, we introduce Detector Guidance (DG), which integrates a latent object detection model to separate different objects during the generation process. DG first performs latent object detection on cross-attention maps (CAMs) to obtain object information. Based on this information, DG then masks conflicting prompts and enhances related prompts by manipulating the following CAMs. We evaluate the effectiveness of DG using Stable Diffusion on COCO, CC, and a novel multi-related object benchmark, MRO. Human evaluations demonstrate that DG provides an 8-22\% advantage in preventing the amalgamation of conflicting concepts and ensuring that each object possesses its unique region without any human involvement and additional iterations. Make-An-Audio: Text-To-Audio Generation with Prompt-Enhanced Diffusion ModelsRongjie Huang, Jiawei Huang, Dongchao Yang et al.
Large-scale multimodal generative modeling has created milestones in text-to-image and text-to-video generation. Its application to audio still lags behind for two main reasons: the lack of large-scale datasets with high-quality text-audio pairs, and the complexity of modeling long continuous audio data. In this work, we propose Make-An-Audio with a prompt-enhanced diffusion model that addresses these gaps by 1) introducing pseudo prompt enhancement with a distill-then-reprogram approach, it alleviates data scarcity with orders of magnitude concept compositions by using language-free audios; 2) leveraging spectrogram autoencoder to predict the self-supervised audio representation instead of waveforms. Together with robust contrastive language-audio pretraining (CLAP) representations, Make-An-Audio achieves state-of-the-art results in both objective and subjective benchmark evaluation. Moreover, we present its controllability and generalization for X-to-Audio with "No Modality Left Behind", for the first time unlocking the ability to generate high-definition, high-fidelity audios given a user-defined modality input. Improving Compositional Generalization Using Iterated Learning and Simplicial EmbeddingsYi Ren, Samuel Lavoie, Mikhail Galkin et al. · deepmind
Compositional generalization, the ability of an agent to generalize to unseen combinations of latent factors, is easy for humans but hard for deep neural networks. A line of research in cognitive science has hypothesized a process, ``iterated learning,'' to help explain how human language developed this ability; the theory rests on simultaneous pressures towards compressibility (when an ignorant agent learns from an informed one) and expressivity (when it uses the representation for downstream tasks). Inspired by this process, we propose to improve the compositional generalization of deep networks by using iterated learning on models with simplicial embeddings, which can approximately discretize representations. This approach is further motivated by an analysis of compositionality based on Kolmogorov complexity. We show that this combination of changes improves compositional generalization over other approaches, demonstrating these improvements both on vision tasks with well-understood latent factors and on real molecular graph prediction tasks where the latent structure is unknown.

FastDiff: A Fast Conditional Diffusion Model for High-Quality Speech SynthesisRongjie Huang, Max W. Y. Lam, Jun Wang et al.
Denoising diffusion probabilistic models (DDPMs) have recently achieved leading performances in many generative tasks. However, the inherited iterative sampling process costs hindered their applications to speech synthesis. This paper proposes FastDiff, a fast conditional diffusion model for high-quality speech synthesis. FastDiff employs a stack of time-aware location-variable convolutions of diverse receptive field patterns to efficiently model long-term time dependencies with adaptive conditions. A noise schedule predictor is also adopted to reduce the sampling steps without sacrificing the generation quality. Based on FastDiff, we design an end-to-end text-to-speech synthesizer, FastDiff-TTS, which generates high-fidelity speech waveforms without any intermediate feature (e.g., Mel-spectrogram). Our evaluation of FastDiff demonstrates the state-of-the-art results with higher-quality (MOS 4.28) speech samples. Also, FastDiff enables a sampling speed of 58x faster than real-time on a V100 GPU, making diffusion models practically applicable to speech synthesis deployment for the first time. We further show that FastDiff generalized well to the mel-spectrogram inversion of unseen speakers, and FastDiff-TTS outperformed other competing methods in end-to-end text-to-speech synthesis. Attributing Image Generative Models using Latent FingerprintsGuangyu Nie, Changhoon Kim, Yezhou Yang et al.
Generative models have enabled the creation of contents that are indistinguishable from those taken from nature. Open-source development of such models raised concerns about the risks of their misuse for malicious purposes. One potential risk mitigation strategy is to attribute generative models via fingerprinting. Current fingerprinting methods exhibit a significant tradeoff between robust attribution accuracy and generation quality while lacking design principles to improve this tradeoff. This paper investigates the use of latent semantic dimensions as fingerprints, from where we can analyze the effects of design variables, including the choice of fingerprinting dimensions, strength, and capacity, on the accuracy-quality tradeoff. Compared with previous SOTA, our method requires minimum computation and is more applicable to large-scale models. We use StyleGAN2 and the latent diffusion model to demonstrate the efficacy of our method.

NTIRE 2026 The Second Challenge on Day and Night Raindrop Removal for Dual-Focused Images: Methods and ResultsXin Li, Yeying Jin, Suhang Yao et al.
This paper presents an overview of the NTIRE 2026 Second Challenge on Day and Night Raindrop Removal for Dual-Focused Images. Building upon the success of the first edition, this challenge attracted a wide range of impressive solutions, all developed and evaluated on our real-world Raindrop Clarity dataset~\cite{jin2024raindrop}. For this edition, we adjust the dataset with 14,139 images for training, 407 images for validation, and 593 images for testing. The primary goal of this challenge is to establish a strong and practical benchmark for the removal of raindrops under various illumination and focus conditions. In total, 168 teams have registered for the competition, and 17 teams submitted valid final solutions and fact sheets for the testing phase. The submitted methods achieved strong performance on the Raindrop Clarity dataset, demonstrating the growing progress in this challenging task.

Diffusion Denoising Process for Perceptron Bias in Out-of-distribution DetectionLuping Liu, Yi Ren, Xize Cheng et al.
Out-of-distribution (OOD) detection is a crucial task for ensuring the reliability and safety of deep learning. Currently, discriminator models outperform other methods in this regard. However, the feature extraction process used by discriminator models suffers from the loss of critical information, leaving room for bad cases and malicious attacks. In this paper, we introduce a new perceptron bias assumption that suggests discriminator models are more sensitive to certain features of the input, leading to the overconfidence problem. To address this issue, we propose a novel framework that combines discriminator and generation models and integrates diffusion models (DMs) into OOD detection. We demonstrate that the diffusion denoising process (DDP) of DMs serves as a novel form of asymmetric interpolation, which is well-suited to enhance the input and mitigate the overconfidence problem. The discriminator model features of OOD data exhibit sharp changes under DDP, and we utilize the norm of this change as the indicator score. Our experiments on CIFAR10, CIFAR100, and ImageNet show that our method outperforms SOTA approaches. Notably, for the challenging InD ImageNet and OOD species datasets, our method achieves an AUROC of 85.7, surpassing the previous SOTA method's score of 77.4. Generative Expressive Conversational Speech SynthesisRui Liu, Yifan Hu, Yi Ren et al.
Conversational Speech Synthesis (CSS) aims to express a target utterance with the proper speaking style in a user-agent conversation setting. Existing CSS methods employ effective multi-modal context modeling techniques to achieve empathy understanding and expression. However, they often need to design complex network architectures and meticulously optimize the modules within them. In addition, due to the limitations of small-scale datasets containing scripted recording styles, they often fail to simulate real natural conversational styles. To address the above issues, we propose a novel generative expressive CSS system, termed GPT-Talker.We transform the multimodal information of the multi-turn dialogue history into discrete token sequences and seamlessly integrate them to form a comprehensive user-agent dialogue context. Leveraging the power of GPT, we predict the token sequence, that includes both semantic and style knowledge, of response for the agent. After that, the expressive conversational speech is synthesized by the conversation-enriched VITS to deliver feedback to the user.Furthermore, we propose a large-scale Natural CSS Dataset called NCSSD, that includes both naturally recorded conversational speech in improvised styles and dialogues extracted from TV shows. It encompasses both Chinese and English languages, with a total duration of 236 hours.We conducted comprehensive experiments on the reliability of the NCSSD and the effectiveness of our GPT-Talker. Both subjective and objective evaluations demonstrate that our model outperforms other state-of-the-art CSS systems significantly in terms of naturalness and expressiveness. ProDiff: Progressive Fast Diffusion Model For High-Quality Text-to-SpeechRongjie Huang, Zhou Zhao, Huadai Liu et al.
Denoising diffusion probabilistic models (DDPMs) have recently achieved leading performances in many generative tasks. However, the inherited iterative sampling process costs hinder their applications to text-to-speech deployment. Through the preliminary study on diffusion model parameterization, we find that previous gradient-based TTS models require hundreds or thousands of iterations to guarantee high sample quality, which poses a challenge for accelerating sampling. In this work, we propose ProDiff, on progressive fast diffusion model for high-quality text-to-speech. Unlike previous work estimating the gradient for data density, ProDiff parameterizes the denoising model by directly predicting clean data to avoid distinct quality degradation in accelerating sampling. To tackle the model convergence challenge with decreased diffusion iterations, ProDiff reduces the data variance in the target site via knowledge distillation. Specifically, the denoising model uses the generated mel-spectrogram from an N-step DDIM teacher as the training target and distills the behavior into a new model with N/2 steps. As such, it allows the TTS model to make sharp predictions and further reduces the sampling time by orders of magnitude. Our evaluation demonstrates that ProDiff needs only 2 iterations to synthesize high-fidelity mel-spectrograms, while it maintains sample quality and diversity competitive with state-of-the-art models using hundreds of steps. ProDiff enables a sampling speed of 24x faster than real-time on a single NVIDIA 2080Ti GPU, making diffusion models practically applicable to text-to-speech synthesis deployment for the first time. Our extensive ablation studies demonstrate that each design in ProDiff is effective, and we further show that ProDiff can be easily extended to the multi-speaker setting. GeneFace: Generalized and High-Fidelity Audio-Driven 3D Talking Face SynthesisZhenhui Ye, Ziyue Jiang, Yi Ren et al.
Generating photo-realistic video portrait with arbitrary speech audio is a crucial problem in film-making and virtual reality. Recently, several works explore the usage of neural radiance field in this task to improve 3D realness and image fidelity. However, the generalizability of previous NeRF-based methods to out-of-domain audio is limited by the small scale of training data. In this work, we propose GeneFace, a generalized and high-fidelity NeRF-based talking face generation method, which can generate natural results corresponding to various out-of-domain audio. Specifically, we learn a variaitional motion generator on a large lip-reading corpus, and introduce a domain adaptative post-net to calibrate the result. Moreover, we learn a NeRF-based renderer conditioned on the predicted facial motion. A head-aware torso-NeRF is proposed to eliminate the head-torso separation problem. Extensive experiments show that our method achieves more generalized and high-fidelity talking face generation compared to previous methods.

Toward Global Sensing Quality Maximization: A Configuration Optimization Scheme for Camera NetworksXuechao Zhang, Xuda Ding, Yi Ren et al.
The performance of a camera network monitoring a set of targets depends crucially on the configuration of the cameras. In this paper, we investigate the reconfiguration strategy for the parameterized camera network model, with which the sensing qualities of the multiple targets can be optimized globally and simultaneously. We first propose to use the number of pixels occupied by a unit-length object in image as a metric of the sensing quality of the object, which is determined by the parameters of the camera, such as intrinsic, extrinsic, and distortional coefficients. Then, we form a single quantity that measures the sensing quality of the targets by the camera network. This quantity further serves as the objective function of our optimization problem to obtain the optimal camera configuration. We verify the effectiveness of our approach through extensive simulations and experiments, and the results reveal its improved performance on the AprilTag detection tasks. TranSpeech: Speech-to-Speech Translation With Bilateral PerturbationRongjie Huang, Jinglin Liu, Huadai Liu et al.
Direct speech-to-speech translation (S2ST) with discrete units leverages recent progress in speech representation learning. Specifically, a sequence of discrete representations derived in a self-supervised manner are predicted from the model and passed to a vocoder for speech reconstruction, while still facing the following challenges: 1) Acoustic multimodality: the discrete units derived from speech with same content could be indeterministic due to the acoustic property (e.g., rhythm, pitch, and energy), which causes deterioration of translation accuracy; 2) high latency: current S2ST systems utilize autoregressive models which predict each unit conditioned on the sequence previously generated, failing to take full advantage of parallelism. In this work, we propose TranSpeech, a speech-to-speech translation model with bilateral perturbation. To alleviate the acoustic multimodal problem, we propose bilateral perturbation (BiP), which consists of the style normalization and information enhancement stages, to learn only the linguistic information from speech samples and generate more deterministic representations. With reduced multimodality, we step forward and become the first to establish a non-autoregressive S2ST technique, which repeatedly masks and predicts unit choices and produces high-accuracy results in just a few cycles. Experimental results on three language pairs demonstrate that BiP yields an improvement of 2.9 BLEU on average compared with a baseline textless S2ST model. Moreover, our parallel decoding shows a significant reduction of inference latency, enabling speedup up to 21.4x than autoregressive technique. GenerSpeech: Towards Style Transfer for Generalizable Out-Of-Domain Text-to-SpeechRongjie Huang, Yi Ren, Jinglin Liu et al.
Style transfer for out-of-domain (OOD) speech synthesis aims to generate speech samples with unseen style (e.g., speaker identity, emotion, and prosody) derived from an acoustic reference, while facing the following challenges: 1) The highly dynamic style features in expressive voice are difficult to model and transfer; and 2) the TTS models should be robust enough to handle diverse OOD conditions that differ from the source data. This paper proposes GenerSpeech, a text-to-speech model towards high-fidelity zero-shot style transfer of OOD custom voice. GenerSpeech decomposes the speech variation into the style-agnostic and style-specific parts by introducing two components: 1) a multi-level style adaptor to efficiently model a large range of style conditions, including global speaker and emotion characteristics, and the local (utterance, phoneme, and word-level) fine-grained prosodic representations; and 2) a generalizable content adaptor with Mix-Style Layer Normalization to eliminate style information in the linguistic content representation and thus improve model generalization. Our evaluations on zero-shot style transfer demonstrate that GenerSpeech surpasses the state-of-the-art models in terms of audio quality and style similarity. XNLI: Explaining and Diagnosing NLI-based Visual Data AnalysisYingchaojie Feng, Xingbo Wang, Bo Pan et al.
Natural language interfaces (NLIs) enable users to flexibly specify analytical intentions in data visualization. However, diagnosing the visualization results without understanding the underlying generation process is challenging. Our research explores how to provide explanations for NLIs to help users locate the problems and further revise the queries. We present XNLI, an explainable NLI system for visual data analysis. The system introduces a Provenance Generator to reveal the detailed process of visual transformations, a suite of interactive widgets to support error adjustments, and a Hint Generator to provide query revision hints based on the analysis of user queries and interactions. Two usage scenarios of XNLI and a user study verify the effectiveness and usability of the system. Results suggest that XNLI can significantly enhance task accuracy without interrupting the NLI-based analysis process.

Approximating Discontinuous Nash Equilibrial Values of Two-Player General-Sum Differential GamesLei Zhang, Mukesh Ghimire, Wenlong Zhang et al.
Finding Nash equilibrial policies for two-player differential games requires solving Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs (HJI) PDEs. Self-supervised learning has been used to approximate solutions of such PDEs while circumventing the curse of dimensionality. However, this method fails to learn discontinuous PDE solutions due to its sampling nature, leading to poor safety performance of the resulting controllers in robotics applications when player rewards are discontinuous. This paper investigates two potential solutions to this problem: a hybrid method that leverages both supervised Nash equilibria and the HJI PDE, and a value-hardening method where a sequence of HJIs are solved with a gradually hardening reward. We compare these solutions using the resulting generalization and safety performance in two vehicle interaction simulation studies with 5D and 9D state spaces, respectively. Results show that with informative supervision (e.g., collision and near-collision demonstrations) and the low cost of self-supervised learning, the hybrid method achieves better safety performance than the supervised, self-supervised, and value hardening approaches on equal computational budget. Value hardening fails to generalize in the higher-dimensional case without informative supervision. Lastly, we show that the neural activation function needs to be continuously differentiable for learning PDEs and its choice can be case dependent.

Learning 6-DoF Fine-grained Grasp Detection Based on Part Affordance GroundingYaoxian Song, Penglei Sun, Piaopiao Jin et al.
Robotic grasping is a fundamental ability for a robot to interact with the environment. Current methods focus on how to obtain a stable and reliable grasping pose in object level, while little work has been studied on part (shape)-wise grasping which is related to fine-grained grasping and robotic affordance. Parts can be seen as atomic elements to compose an object, which contains rich semantic knowledge and a strong correlation with affordance. However, lacking a large part-wise 3D robotic dataset limits the development of part representation learning and downstream applications. In this paper, we propose a new large Language-guided SHape grAsPing datasEt (named LangSHAPE) to promote 3D part-level affordance and grasping ability learning. From the perspective of robotic cognition, we design a two-stage fine-grained robotic grasping framework (named LangPartGPD), including a novel 3D part language grounding model and a part-aware grasp pose detection model, in which explicit language input from human or large language models (LLMs) could guide a robot to generate part-level 6-DoF grasping pose with textual explanation. Our method combines the advantages of human-robot collaboration and LLMs' planning ability using explicit language as a symbolic intermediate. To evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed method, we perform 3D part grounding and fine-grained grasp detection experiments on both simulation and physical robot settings, following language instructions across different degrees of textual complexity. Results show our method achieves competitive performance in 3D geometry fine-grained grounding, object affordance inference, and 3D part-aware grasping tasks. VarietySound: Timbre-Controllable Video to Sound Generation via Unsupervised Information DisentanglementChenye Cui, Yi Ren, Jinglin Liu et al.
Video to sound generation aims to generate realistic and natural sound given a video input. However, previous video-to-sound generation methods can only generate a random or average timbre without any controls or specializations of the generated sound timbre, leading to the problem that people cannot obtain the desired timbre under these methods sometimes. In this paper, we pose the task of generating sound with a specific timbre given a video input and a reference audio sample. To solve this task, we disentangle each target sound audio into three components: temporal information, acoustic information, and background information. We first use three encoders to encode these components respectively: 1) a temporal encoder to encode temporal information, which is fed with video frames since the input video shares the same temporal information as the original audio; 2) an acoustic encoder to encode timbre information, which takes the original audio as input and discards its temporal information by a temporal-corrupting operation; and 3) a background encoder to encode the residual or background sound, which uses the background part of the original audio as input. To make the generated result achieve better quality and temporal alignment, we also adopt a mel discriminator and a temporal discriminator for the adversarial training. Our experimental results on the VAS dataset demonstrate that our method can generate high-quality audio samples with good synchronization with events in video and high timbre similarity with the reference audio.

Better Supervisory Signals by Observing Learning PathsYi Ren, Shangmin Guo, Danica J. Sutherland
Better-supervised models might have better performance. In this paper, we first clarify what makes for good supervision for a classification problem, and then explain two existing label refining methods, label smoothing and knowledge distillation, in terms of our proposed criterion. To further answer why and how better supervision emerges, we observe the learning path, i.e., the trajectory of the model's predictions during training, for each training sample. We find that the model can spontaneously refine "bad" labels through a "zig-zag" learning path, which occurs on both toy and real datasets. Observing the learning path not only provides a new perspective for understanding knowledge distillation, overfitting, and learning dynamics, but also reveals that the supervisory signal of a teacher network can be very unstable near the best points in training on real tasks. Inspired by this, we propose a new knowledge distillation scheme, Filter-KD, which improves downstream classification performance in various settings.

MulliVC: Multi-lingual Voice Conversion With Cycle ConsistencyJiawei Huang, Chen Zhang, Yi Ren et al.
Voice conversion aims to modify the source speaker's voice to resemble the target speaker while preserving the original speech content. Despite notable advancements in voice conversion these days, multi-lingual voice conversion (including both monolingual and cross-lingual scenarios) has yet to be extensively studied. It faces two main challenges: 1) the considerable variability in prosody and articulation habits across languages; and 2) the rarity of paired multi-lingual datasets from the same speaker. In this paper, we propose MulliVC, a novel voice conversion system that only converts timbre and keeps original content and source language prosody without multi-lingual paired data. Specifically, each training step of MulliVC contains three substeps: In step one the model is trained with monolingual speech data; then, steps two and three take inspiration from back translation, construct a cyclical process to disentangle the timbre and other information (content, prosody, and other language-related information) in the absence of multi-lingual data from the same speaker. Both objective and subjective results indicate that MulliVC significantly surpasses other methods in both monolingual and cross-lingual contexts, demonstrating the system's efficacy and the viability of the three-step approach with cycle consistency. Unsupervised Video Domain Adaptation for Action Recognition: A Disentanglement PerspectivePengfei Wei, Lingdong Kong, Xinghua Qu et al.
Unsupervised video domain adaptation is a practical yet challenging task. In this work, for the first time, we tackle it from a disentanglement view. Our key idea is to handle the spatial and temporal domain divergence separately through disentanglement. Specifically, we consider the generation of cross-domain videos from two sets of latent factors, one encoding the static information and another encoding the dynamic information. A Transfer Sequential VAE (TranSVAE) framework is then developed to model such generation. To better serve for adaptation, we propose several objectives to constrain the latent factors. With these constraints, the spatial divergence can be readily removed by disentangling the static domain-specific information out, and the temporal divergence is further reduced from both frame- and video-levels through adversarial learning. Extensive experiments on the UCF-HMDB, Jester, and Epic-Kitchens datasets verify the effectiveness and superiority of TranSVAE compared with several state-of-the-art approaches. Video-Guided Curriculum Learning for Spoken Video GroundingYan Xia, Zhou Zhao, Shangwei Ye et al.
In this paper, we introduce a new task, spoken video grounding (SVG), which aims to localize the desired video fragments from spoken language descriptions. Compared with using text, employing audio requires the model to directly exploit the useful phonemes and syllables related to the video from raw speech. Moreover, we randomly add environmental noises to this speech audio, further increasing the difficulty of this task and better simulating real applications. To rectify the discriminative phonemes and extract video-related information from noisy audio, we develop a novel video-guided curriculum learning (VGCL) during the audio pre-training process, which can make use of the vital visual perceptions to help understand the spoken language and suppress the external noise. Considering during inference the model can not obtain ground truth video segments, we design a curriculum strategy that gradually shifts the input video from the ground truth to the entire video content during pre-training. Finally, the model can learn how to extract critical visual information from the entire video clip to help understand the spoken language. In addition, we collect the first large-scale spoken video grounding dataset based on ActivityNet, which is named as ActivityNet Speech dataset. Extensive experiments demonstrate our proposed video-guided curriculum learning can facilitate the pre-training process to obtain a mutual audio encoder, significantly promoting the performance of spoken video grounding tasks. Moreover, we prove that in the case of noisy sound, our model outperforms the method that grounding video with ASR transcripts, further demonstrating the effectiveness of our curriculum strategy.

MUG: A General Meeting Understanding and Generation BenchmarkQinglin Zhang, Chong Deng, Jiaqing Liu et al.
Listening to long video/audio recordings from video conferencing and online courses for acquiring information is extremely inefficient. Even after ASR systems transcribe recordings into long-form spoken language documents, reading ASR transcripts only partly speeds up seeking information. It has been observed that a range of NLP applications, such as keyphrase extraction, topic segmentation, and summarization, significantly improve users' efficiency in grasping important information. The meeting scenario is among the most valuable scenarios for deploying these spoken language processing (SLP) capabilities. However, the lack of large-scale public meeting datasets annotated for these SLP tasks severely hinders their advancement. To prompt SLP advancement, we establish a large-scale general Meeting Understanding and Generation Benchmark (MUG) to benchmark the performance of a wide range of SLP tasks, including topic segmentation, topic-level and session-level extractive summarization and topic title generation, keyphrase extraction, and action item detection. To facilitate the MUG benchmark, we construct and release a large-scale meeting dataset for comprehensive long-form SLP development, the AliMeeting4MUG Corpus, which consists of 654 recorded Mandarin meeting sessions with diverse topic coverage, with manual annotations for SLP tasks on manual transcripts of meeting recordings. To the best of our knowledge, the AliMeeting4MUG Corpus is so far the largest meeting corpus in scale and facilitates most SLP tasks. In this paper, we provide a detailed introduction of this corpus, SLP tasks and evaluation methods, baseline systems and their performance.

How to prepare your task head for finetuningYi Ren, Shangmin Guo, Wonho Bae et al.
In deep learning, transferring information from a pretrained network to a downstream task by finetuning has many benefits. The choice of task head plays an important role in fine-tuning, as the pretrained and downstream tasks are usually different. Although there exist many different designs for finetuning, a full understanding of when and why these algorithms work has been elusive. We analyze how the choice of task head controls feature adaptation and hence influences the downstream performance. By decomposing the learning dynamics of adaptation, we find that the key aspect is the training accuracy and loss at the beginning of finetuning, which determines the "energy" available for the feature's adaptation. We identify a significant trend in the effect of changes in this initial energy on the resulting features after fine-tuning. Specifically, as the energy increases, the Euclidean and cosine distances between the resulting and original features increase, while their dot products (and the resulting features' norm) first increase and then decrease. Inspired by this, we give several practical principles that lead to better downstream performance. We analytically prove this trend in an overparamterized linear setting and verify its applicability to different experimental settings.

A Full-Stack Performance Evaluation Infrastructure for 3D-DRAM-based LLM AcceleratorsCong Li, Chenhao Xue, Yi Ren et al.
Large language models (LLMs) exhibit memory-intensive behavior during decoding, making it a key bottleneck in LLM inference. To accelerate decoding execution, hybrid-bonding-based 3D-DRAM has been adopted in LLM accelerators. While this emerging technology provides strong performance gains over existing hardware, current 3D-DRAM accelerators (3D-Accelerators) rely on closed-source evaluation tools, limiting access to publicly available performance analysis methods. Moreover, existing designs are highly customized for specific scenarios, lacking a general and reusable full-stack modeling for 3D-Accelerators across diverse usecases. To bridge this fundamental gap, we present ATLAS, the first silicon-proven Architectural Three-dimesional-DRAM-based LLM Accelerator Simulation framework. Built on commercially deployed multi-layer 3D-DRAM technology, ATLAS introduces unified abstractions for both 3D-Accelerator system architecture and programming primitives to support arbitrary LLM inference scenarios. Validation against real silicon shows that ATLAS achieves $\le$8.57% simulation error and 97.26-99.96\% correlation with measured performance. Through design space exploration with ATLAS, we demonstrate its ability to guide architecture design and distill key takeaways for both 3D-DRAM memory system and 3D-Accelerator microarchitecture across scenarios. ATLAS will be open-sourced upon publication, enabling further research on 3D-Accelerators.

Ada-TTA: Towards Adaptive High-Quality Text-to-Talking Avatar SynthesisZhenhui Ye, Ziyue Jiang, Yi Ren et al.
We are interested in a novel task, namely low-resource text-to-talking avatar. Given only a few-minute-long talking person video with the audio track as the training data and arbitrary texts as the driving input, we aim to synthesize high-quality talking portrait videos corresponding to the input text. This task has broad application prospects in the digital human industry but has not been technically achieved yet due to two challenges: (1) It is challenging to mimic the timbre from out-of-domain audio for a traditional multi-speaker Text-to-Speech system. (2) It is hard to render high-fidelity and lip-synchronized talking avatars with limited training data. In this paper, we introduce Adaptive Text-to-Talking Avatar (Ada-TTA), which (1) designs a generic zero-shot multi-speaker TTS model that well disentangles the text content, timbre, and prosody; and (2) embraces recent advances in neural rendering to achieve realistic audio-driven talking face video generation. With these designs, our method overcomes the aforementioned two challenges and achieves to generate identity-preserving speech and realistic talking person video. Experiments demonstrate that our method could synthesize realistic, identity-preserving, and audio-visual synchronized talking avatar videos.

Learning Dynamics of LLM FinetuningYi Ren, Danica J. Sutherland
Learning dynamics, which describes how the learning of specific training examples influences the model's predictions on other examples, gives us a powerful tool for understanding the behavior of deep learning systems. We study the learning dynamics of large language models during different types of finetuning, by analyzing the step-wise decomposition of how influence accumulates among different potential responses. Our framework allows a uniform interpretation of many interesting observations about the training of popular algorithms for both instruction tuning and preference tuning. In particular, we propose a hypothetical explanation of why specific types of hallucination are strengthened after finetuning, e.g., the model might use phrases or facts in the response for question B to answer question A, or the model might keep repeating similar simple phrases when generating responses. We also extend our framework and highlight a unique "squeezing effect" to explain a previously observed phenomenon in off-policy direct preference optimization (DPO), where running DPO for too long makes even the desired outputs less likely. This framework also provides insights into where the benefits of on-policy DPO and other variants come from. The analysis not only provides a novel perspective of understanding LLM's finetuning but also inspires a simple, effective method to improve alignment performance.

C2G2: Controllable Co-speech Gesture Generation with Latent Diffusion ModelLongbin Ji, Pengfei Wei, Yi Ren et al.
Co-speech gesture generation is crucial for automatic digital avatar animation. However, existing methods suffer from issues such as unstable training and temporal inconsistency, particularly in generating high-fidelity and comprehensive gestures. Additionally, these methods lack effective control over speaker identity and temporal editing of the generated gestures. Focusing on capturing temporal latent information and applying practical controlling, we propose a Controllable Co-speech Gesture Generation framework, named C2G2. Specifically, we propose a two-stage temporal dependency enhancement strategy motivated by latent diffusion models. We further introduce two key features to C2G2, namely a speaker-specific decoder to generate speaker-related real-length skeletons and a repainting strategy for flexible gesture generation/editing. Extensive experiments on benchmark gesture datasets verify the effectiveness of our proposed C2G2 compared with several state-of-the-art baselines. Double Triangle Annotation: A Scalable Human-in-the-Loop Framework for High-Precision Historical Document AnnotationYi Ren
Evaluating structured-information extraction from historical documents at scale requires high-precision ground-truth annotations, yet traditional manual labeling is expensive and fully automated pipelines built on large language models are prone to hallucination. We propose Double Triangle Annotation, a two-layer human-in-the-loop framework that leverages cross-model consensus to automate the majority of annotation work while ensuring high-precision outputs. In the first layer, two architecturally independent Multimodal Large Language Models annotate each document in parallel; when they agree, the label is auto-accepted, and disagreements are routed to a human jury. A second layer cross-checks two such systems against each other, escalating residual conflicts to a domain expert. The framework rests on a single assumption -- error independence between models -- requires no distributional priors or task-specific calibration, and becomes more autonomous as model capability improves. On the Guides Rosenwald, a corpus of French medical directories spanning 1887-1906, the framework achieves a final Word Error Rate of 0.003. Applied at scale, model consensus auto-accepts over 85% of 13,595 fields. We release the resulting benchmark -- the first structured-extraction ground truth for the Rosenwald Guides -- to support future work on historical document processing.

SSR-GNNs: Stroke-based Sketch Representation with Graph Neural NetworksSheng Cheng, Yi Ren, Yezhou Yang
This paper follows cognitive studies to investigate a graph representation for sketches, where the information of strokes, i.e., parts of a sketch, are encoded on vertices and information of inter-stroke on edges. The resultant graph representation facilitates the training of a Graph Neural Networks for classification tasks, and achieves accuracy and robustness comparable to the state-of-the-art against translation and rotation attacks, as well as stronger attacks on graph vertices and topologies, i.e., modifications and addition of strokes, all without resorting to adversarial training. Prior studies on sketches, e.g., graph transformers, encode control points of stroke on vertices, which are not invariant to spatial transformations. In contrary, we encode vertices and edges using pairwise distances among control points to achieve invariance. Compared with existing generative sketch model for one-shot classification, our method does not rely on run-time statistical inference. Lastly, the proposed representation enables generation of novel sketches that are structurally similar to while separable from the existing dataset.

End-to-End Dexterous Grasp Learning from Single-View Point Clouds via a Multi-Object Scene DatasetTao Geng, Dapeng Yang, Ziwei Liu et al.
Dexterous grasping in multi-object scene constitutes a fundamental challenge in robotic manipulation. Current mainstream grasping datasets predominantly focus on single-object scenarios and predefined grasp configurations, often neglecting environmental interference and the modeling of dexterous pre-grasp gesture, thereby limiting their generalizability in real-world applications. To address this, we propose DGS-Net, an end-to-end grasp prediction network capable of learning dense grasp configurations from single-view point clouds in multi-object scene. Furthermore, we propose a two-stage grasp data generation strategy that progresses from dense single-object grasp synthesis to dense scene-level grasp generation. Our dataset comprises 307 objects, 240 multi-object scenes, and over 350k validated grasps. By explicitly modeling grasp offsets and pre-grasp configurations, the dataset provides more robust and accurate supervision for dexterous grasp learning. Experimental results show that DGS-Net achieves grasp success rates of 88.63\% in simulation and 78.98\% on a real robotic platform, while exhibiting lower penetration with a mean penetration depth of 0.375 mm and penetration volume of 559.45 mm^3, outperforming existing methods and demonstrating strong effectiveness and generalization capability. Towards Multi-Object Nonprehensile Transportation via Shared Teleoperation: A Framework Based on Virtual Object Model Predictive ControlXinyang Fan, Zhaoyang Chen, Shu Xin et al.
Multi-object nonprehensile transportation in teleoperation demands simultaneous trajectory tracking and tray orientation control. Existing methods often struggle with model dependency, uncertain parameters, and multi-object adaptability. We propose a shared teleoperation framework where humans and robots share positioning control, while the robot autonomously manages orientation to satisfy dynamic constraints. Key contributions include: 1) A theoretical dynamic constraint analysis utilizing a novel virtual object (VO)-based method to simplify constraints for trajectory planning. 2) An MPC-based trajectory smoothing algorithm that enforces real-time constraints and coordinates user tracking with orientation control. 3) Validations demonstrating stable manipulation of nine objects at accelerations up to 2.4 m/s2. Compared to the baseline, our approach reduces sliding distance by 72.45% and eliminates tip-overs (0% vs. 13.9%), proving robust adaptability in complex scenarios.

Emotion Rendering for Conversational Speech Synthesis with Heterogeneous Graph-Based Context ModelingRui Liu, Yifan Hu, Yi Ren et al.
Conversational Speech Synthesis (CSS) aims to accurately express an utterance with the appropriate prosody and emotional inflection within a conversational setting. While recognising the significance of CSS task, the prior studies have not thoroughly investigated the emotional expressiveness problems due to the scarcity of emotional conversational datasets and the difficulty of stateful emotion modeling. In this paper, we propose a novel emotional CSS model, termed ECSS, that includes two main components: 1) to enhance emotion understanding, we introduce a heterogeneous graph-based emotional context modeling mechanism, which takes the multi-source dialogue history as input to model the dialogue context and learn the emotion cues from the context; 2) to achieve emotion rendering, we employ a contrastive learning-based emotion renderer module to infer the accurate emotion style for the target utterance. To address the issue of data scarcity, we meticulously create emotional labels in terms of category and intensity, and annotate additional emotional information on the existing conversational dataset (DailyTalk). Both objective and subjective evaluations suggest that our model outperforms the baseline models in understanding and rendering emotions. Understanding Simplicity Bias towards Compositional Mappings via Learning DynamicsYi Ren, Danica J. Sutherland
Obtaining compositional mappings is important for the model to generalize well compositionally. To better understand when and how to encourage the model to learn such mappings, we study their uniqueness through different perspectives. Specifically, we first show that the compositional mappings are the simplest bijections through the lens of coding length (i.e., an upper bound of their Kolmogorov complexity). This property explains why models having such mappings can generalize well. We further show that the simplicity bias is usually an intrinsic property of neural network training via gradient descent. That partially explains why some models spontaneously generalize well when they are trained appropriately.

ASGO: Adaptive Structured Gradient OptimizationKang An, Yuxing Liu, Rui Pan et al.
Training deep neural networks is a structured optimization problem, because the parameters are naturally represented by matrices and tensors rather than by vectors. Under this structural representation, it has been widely observed that gradients are low-rank and Hessians are approximately block diagonal. These structured properties are crucial for designing efficient optimization algorithms, but are not utilized by many current popular optimizers like Adam. In this paper, we present a novel optimization algorithm ASGO that capitalizes on these properties by employing a preconditioner that is adaptively updated using structured gradients. By a fine-grained theoretical analysis, ASGO is proven to achieve superior convergence rates compared to existing structured gradient methods. Based on this convergence theory, we further demonstrate that ASGO can benefit from low-rank gradients and block diagonal Hessians. We also discuss practical modifications of ASGO and empirically verify ASGO's effectiveness on language model tasks. Code is available at https://github.com/infinity-stars/ASGO.

This technical report aims to fill a deficiency in the assessment of large multimodal models (LMMs) by specifically examining the self-consistency of their outputs when subjected to common corruptions. We investigate the cross-modal interactions between text, image, and speech, encompassing four essential generation tasks: text-to-image, image-to-text, text-to-speech, and speech-to-text. We create a comprehensive benchmark, named MMCBench, that covers more than 100 popular LMMs (totally over 150 model checkpoints). Unbiased Learning to Rank with Biased Continuous FeedbackYi Ren, Hongyan Tang, Siwen Zhu
It is a well-known challenge to learn an unbiased ranker with biased feedback. Unbiased learning-to-rank(LTR) algorithms, which are verified to model the relative relevance accurately based on noisy feedback, are appealing candidates and have already been applied in many applications with single categorical labels, such as user click signals. Nevertheless, the existing unbiased LTR methods cannot properly handle continuous feedback, which are essential for many industrial applications, such as content recommender systems. To provide personalized high-quality recommendation results, recommender systems need model both categorical and continuous biased feedback, such as click and dwell time. Accordingly, we design a novel unbiased LTR algorithm to tackle the challenges, which innovatively models position bias in the pairwise fashion and introduces the pairwise trust bias to separate the position bias, trust bias, and user relevance explicitly and can work for both continuous and categorical feedback. Experiment results on public benchmark datasets and internal live traffic of a large-scale recommender system at Tencent News show superior results for continuous labels and also competitive performance for categorical labels of the proposed method.

AdaFlood: Adaptive Flood RegularizationWonho Bae, Yi Ren, Mohamad Osama Ahmed et al.
Although neural networks are conventionally optimized towards zero training loss, it has been recently learned that targeting a non-zero training loss threshold, referred to as a flood level, often enables better test time generalization. Current approaches, however, apply the same constant flood level to all training samples, which inherently assumes all the samples have the same difficulty. We present AdaFlood, a novel flood regularization method that adapts the flood level of each training sample according to the difficulty of the sample. Intuitively, since training samples are not equal in difficulty, the target training loss should be conditioned on the instance. Experiments on datasets covering four diverse input modalities - text, images, asynchronous event sequences, and tabular - demonstrate the versatility of AdaFlood across data domains and noise levels.

Falcon: A Remote Sensing Vision-Language Foundation Model (Technical Report)Kelu Yao, Nuo Xu, Rong Yang et al.
This paper introduces a holistic vision-language foundation model tailored for remote sensing, named Falcon. Falcon offers a unified, prompt-based paradigm that effectively executes comprehensive and complex remote sensing tasks. Falcon demonstrates powerful understanding and reasoning abilities at the image, region, and pixel levels. Specifically, given simple natural language instructions and remote sensing images, Falcon can produce impressive results in text form across 14 distinct tasks, i.e., image classification, object detection, segmentation, image captioning, and etc. To facilitate Falcon's training and empower its representation capacity to encode rich spatial and semantic information, we developed Falcon_SFT, a large-scale, multi-task, instruction-tuning dataset in the field of remote sensing. The Falcon_SFT dataset consists of approximately 78 million high-quality data samples, covering 5.6 million multi-spatial resolution and multi-view remote sensing images with diverse instructions. It features hierarchical annotations and undergoes manual sampling verification to ensure high data quality and reliability. Extensive comparative experiments are conducted, which verify that Falcon achieves remarkable performance over 67 datasets and 14 tasks, despite having only 0.7B parameters. We release the complete dataset, code, and model weights at https://github.com/TianHuiLab/Falcon, hoping to help further develop the open-source community.

In this report, we present HoloMotion-1, a humanoid motion foundation model for zero-shot whole-body motion tracking. A key innovation of HoloMotion-1 is to scale control-policy training with a large-scale hybrid motion corpus, where video-reconstructed motions from in-the-wild videos provide the dominant source of motion diversity, while curated motion-capture and in-house motion data provide higher-fidelity supervision and deployment-oriented coverage. This data regime enables HoloMotion-1 to move beyond conventional MoCap-only training and exposes the policy to substantially broader behaviors, capture conditions, and motion styles. Learning from such heterogeneous data introduces new challenges, including reconstruction noise, source-domain mismatch, uneven motion quality, and the need for temporal modeling under large behavioral variation. To address these challenges, HoloMotion-1 integrates large-capacity temporal modeling, a sparsely activated Mixture-of-Experts Transformer with KV-cache inference for real-time control, and a sequence-level training strategy that improves learning efficiency on extended motion sequences. Extensive experiments on multiple unseen motion benchmarks show that HoloMotion-1 generalizes robustly across diverse motion types and capture conditions, significantly improves tracking accuracy over prior methods, and transfers directly to a real humanoid robot without task-specific fine-tuning.

ModaLink: Unifying Modalities for Efficient Image-to-PointCloud Place RecognitionWeidong Xie, Lun Luo, Nanfei Ye et al.
Place recognition is an important task for robots and autonomous cars to localize themselves and close loops in pre-built maps. While single-modal sensor-based methods have shown satisfactory performance, cross-modal place recognition that retrieving images from a point-cloud database remains a challenging problem. Current cross-modal methods transform images into 3D points using depth estimation for modality conversion, which are usually computationally intensive and need expensive labeled data for depth supervision. In this work, we introduce a fast and lightweight framework to encode images and point clouds into place-distinctive descriptors. We propose an effective Field of View (FoV) transformation module to convert point clouds into an analogous modality as images. This module eliminates the necessity for depth estimation and helps subsequent modules achieve real-time performance. We further design a non-negative factorization-based encoder to extract mutually consistent semantic features between point clouds and images. This encoder yields more distinctive global descriptors for retrieval. Experimental results on the KITTI dataset show that our proposed methods achieve state-of-the-art performance while running in real time. Additional evaluation on the HAOMO dataset covering a 17 km trajectory further shows the practical generalization capabilities. On GRPO Collapse in Search-R1: The Lazy Likelihood-Displacement Death SpiralWenlong Deng, Yushu Li, Boying Gong et al.
Tool-integrated (TI) reinforcement learning (RL) enables large language models (LLMs) to perform multi-step reasoning by interacting with external tools such as search engines and retrievers. Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO), exemplified by the recent Search-R1, offers fast convergence and a value-free formulation that makes it appealing for this setting, yet consistently suffers from training collapse. We identify Lazy Likelihood Displacement (LLD), a systematic reduction or stagnation in the likelihood of both correct and incorrect responses, as the core mechanism driving this failure. LLD emerges early and triggers a self-reinforcing LLD Death Spiral, where declining likelihood leads to low-confidence responses, inflating gradients, and ultimately causing collapse. We empirically characterize this process across models on a Search-R1-style, search-integrated question answering task, revealing a consistent three-phase trajectory: early stagnation, steady decay, and accelerated collapse. To address this, we propose a lightweight likelihood-preserving regularization LLDS for GRPO that activates only when a trajectory's likelihood decreases, and regularizes only the tokens responsible. This fine-grained structure mitigates LLD with minimal interference to optimization. Across seven open-domain and multi-hop QA benchmarks, our method stabilizes training, prevents gradient explosion, and yields substantial performance improvements, including +37.8% gains on Qwen2.5-3B and +32.0% gains on Qwen2.5-7B. Our results establish LLD as a fundamental bottleneck in GRPO-based TIRL and provide a practical path toward stable, scalable training of tool-integrated LLM.

A Novel Adaptive Fine-Tuning Algorithm for Multimodal Models: Self-Optimizing Classification and Selection of High-Quality Datasets in Remote SensingYi Ren, Tianyi Zhang, Zhixiong Han et al.
We propose an adaptive fine-tuning algorithm for multimodal large models. The core steps of this algorithm involve two stages of truncation. First, the vast amount of data is projected into a semantic vector space, and the MiniBatchKMeans algorithm is used for automated clustering. This classification ensures that the data within each cluster exhibit high semantic similarity. Next, we process the data in each cluster, calculating the translational difference between the original and perturbed data in the multimodal large model's vector space. This difference serves as a generalization metric for the data. Based on this metric, we select the data with high generalization potential for training. We applied this algorithm to train the InternLM-XComposer2-VL-7B model on two 3090 GPUs using one-third of the GeoChat multimodal remote sensing dataset. The results demonstrate that our algorithm outperforms the state-of-the-art baselines. various baselines. The model trained on our optimally chosen one-third dataset, based on experimental validation, exhibited only 1% reduction in performance across various remote sensing metrics compared to the model trained on the full dataset. This approach significantly preserved general-purpose capabilities while reducing training time by 68.2%. Furthermore, the model achieved scores of 89.86 and 77.19 on the UCMerced and AID evaluation datasets, respectively, surpassing the GeoChat dataset by 5.43 and 5.16 points. It only showed a 0.91-point average decrease on the LRBEN evaluation dataset.

Value Approximation for Two-Player General-Sum Differential Games with State ConstraintsLei Zhang, Mukesh Ghimire, Wenlong Zhang et al.
Solving Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs (HJI) PDEs numerically enables equilibrial feedback control in two-player differential games, yet faces the curse of dimensionality (CoD). While physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) have shown promise in alleviating CoD in solving PDEs, vanilla PINNs fall short in learning discontinuous solutions due to their sampling nature, leading to poor safety performance of the resulting policies when values are discontinuous due to state or temporal logic constraints. In this study, we explore three potential solutions to this challenge: (1) a hybrid learning method that is guided by both supervisory equilibria and the HJI PDE, (2) a value-hardening method where a sequence of HJIs are solved with increasing Lipschitz constant on the constraint violation penalty, and (3) the epigraphical technique that lifts the value to a higher dimensional state space where it becomes continuous. Evaluations through 5D and 9D vehicle and 13D drone simulations reveal that the hybrid method outperforms others in terms of generalization and safety performance by taking advantage of both the supervisory equilibrium values and costates, and the low cost of PINN loss gradients.

Hierarchical Vision-Language Interaction for Facial Action Unit DetectionYong Li, Yi Ren, Yizhe Zhang et al.
Facial Action Unit (AU) detection seeks to recognize subtle facial muscle activations as defined by the Facial Action Coding System (FACS). A primary challenge w.r.t AU detection is the effective learning of discriminative and generalizable AU representations under conditions of limited annotated data. To address this, we propose a Hierarchical Vision-language Interaction for AU Understanding (HiVA) method, which leverages textual AU descriptions as semantic priors to guide and enhance AU detection. Specifically, HiVA employs a large language model to generate diverse and contextually rich AU descriptions to strengthen language-based representation learning. To capture both fine-grained and holistic vision-language associations, HiVA introduces an AU-aware dynamic graph module that facilitates the learning of AU-specific visual representations. These features are further integrated within a hierarchical cross-modal attention architecture comprising two complementary mechanisms: Disentangled Dual Cross-Attention (DDCA), which establishes fine-grained, AU-specific interactions between visual and textual features, and Contextual Dual Cross-Attention (CDCA), which models global inter-AU dependencies. This collaborative, cross-modal learning paradigm enables HiVA to leverage multi-grained vision-based AU features in conjunction with refined language-based AU details, culminating in robust and semantically enriched AU detection capabilities. Extensive experiments show that HiVA consistently surpasses state-of-the-art approaches. Besides, qualitative analyses reveal that HiVA produces semantically meaningful activation patterns, highlighting its efficacy in learning robust and interpretable cross-modal correspondences for comprehensive facial behavior analysis.
