CgT-GAN: CLIP-guided Text GAN for Image CaptioningJiarui Yu, Haoran Li, Yanbin Hao et al.
The large-scale visual-language pre-trained model, Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training (CLIP), has significantly improved image captioning for scenarios without human-annotated image-caption pairs. Recent advanced CLIP-based image captioning without human annotations follows a text-only training paradigm, i.e., reconstructing text from shared embedding space. Nevertheless, these approaches are limited by the training/inference gap or huge storage requirements for text embeddings. Given that it is trivial to obtain images in the real world, we propose CLIP-guided text GAN (CgT-GAN), which incorporates images into the training process to enable the model to "see" real visual modality. Particularly, we use adversarial training to teach CgT-GAN to mimic the phrases of an external text corpus and CLIP-based reward to provide semantic guidance. The caption generator is jointly rewarded based on the caption naturalness to human language calculated from the GAN's discriminator and the semantic guidance reward computed by the CLIP-based reward module. In addition to the cosine similarity as the semantic guidance reward (i.e., CLIP-cos), we further introduce a novel semantic guidance reward called CLIP-agg, which aligns the generated caption with a weighted text embedding by attentively aggregating the entire corpus. Experimental results on three subtasks (ZS-IC, In-UIC and Cross-UIC) show that CgT-GAN outperforms state-of-the-art methods significantly across all metrics. Domain Adaptive Nuclei Instance Segmentation and Classification via Category-aware Feature Alignment and Pseudo-labellingCanran Li, Dongnan Liu, Haoran Li et al. · meta-ai
Unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) methods have been broadly utilized to improve the models' adaptation ability in general computer vision. However, different from the natural images, there exist huge semantic gaps for the nuclei from different categories in histopathology images. It is still under-explored how could we build generalized UDA models for precise segmentation or classification of nuclei instances across different datasets. In this work, we propose a novel deep neural network, namely Category-Aware feature alignment and Pseudo-Labelling Network (CAPL-Net) for UDA nuclei instance segmentation and classification. Specifically, we first propose a category-level feature alignment module with dynamic learnable trade-off weights. Second, we propose to facilitate the model performance on the target data via self-supervised training with pseudo labels based on nuclei-level prototype features. Comprehensive experiments on cross-domain nuclei instance segmentation and classification tasks demonstrate that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art UDA methods with a remarkable margin.

You Don't Know My Favorite Color: Preventing Dialogue Representations from Revealing Speakers' Private PersonasHaoran Li, Yangqiu Song, Lixin Fan · meta-ai
Social chatbots, also known as chit-chat chatbots, evolve rapidly with large pretrained language models. Despite the huge progress, privacy concerns have arisen recently: training data of large language models can be extracted via model inversion attacks. On the other hand, the datasets used for training chatbots contain many private conversations between two individuals. In this work, we further investigate the privacy leakage of the hidden states of chatbots trained by language modeling which has not been well studied yet. We show that speakers' personas can be inferred through a simple neural network with high accuracy. To this end, we propose effective defense objectives to protect persona leakage from hidden states. We conduct extensive experiments to demonstrate that our proposed defense objectives can greatly reduce the attack accuracy from 37.6% to 0.5%. Meanwhile, the proposed objectives preserve language models' powerful generation ability.

With the rapid development of deep learning, training Big Models (BMs) for multiple downstream tasks becomes a popular paradigm. Researchers have achieved various outcomes in the construction of BMs and the BM application in many fields. At present, there is a lack of research work that sorts out the overall progress of BMs and guides the follow-up research. In this paper, we cover not only the BM technologies themselves but also the prerequisites for BM training and applications with BMs, dividing the BM review into four parts: Resource, Models, Key Technologies and Application. We introduce 16 specific BM-related topics in those four parts, they are Data, Knowledge, Computing System, Parallel Training System, Language Model, Vision Model, Multi-modal Model, Theory&Interpretability, Commonsense Reasoning, Reliability&Security, Governance, Evaluation, Machine Translation, Text Generation, Dialogue and Protein Research. In each topic, we summarize clearly the current studies and propose some future research directions. At the end of this paper, we conclude the further development of BMs in a more general view.

Continual learning (CL) has two main objectives: preventing catastrophic forgetting (CF) and encouraging knowledge transfer (KT). The existing literature mainly focused on overcoming CF. Some work has also been done on KT when the tasks are similar. To our knowledge, only one method has been proposed to learn a sequence of mixed tasks. However, these techniques still suffer from CF and/or limited KT. This paper proposes a new CL method to achieve both. It overcomes CF by isolating the knowledge of each task via discovering a subnetwork for it. A soft-masking mechanism is also proposed to preserve the previous knowledge and to enable the new task to leverage the past knowledge to achieve KT. Experiments using classification, generation, information extraction, and their mixture (i.e., heterogeneous tasks) show that the proposed method consistently outperforms strong baselines.

STRUDEL: Structured Dialogue Summarization for Dialogue ComprehensionBorui Wang, Chengcheng Feng, Arjun Nair et al. · berkeley, meta-ai
Abstractive dialogue summarization has long been viewed as an important standalone task in natural language processing, but no previous work has explored the possibility of whether abstractive dialogue summarization can also be used as a means to boost an NLP system's performance on other important dialogue comprehension tasks. In this paper, we propose a novel type of dialogue summarization task - STRUctured DiaLoguE Summarization - that can help pre-trained language models to better understand dialogues and improve their performance on important dialogue comprehension tasks. We further collect human annotations of STRUDEL summaries over 400 dialogues and introduce a new STRUDEL dialogue comprehension modeling framework that integrates STRUDEL into a graph-neural-network-based dialogue reasoning module over transformer encoder language models to improve their dialogue comprehension abilities. In our empirical experiments on two important downstream dialogue comprehension tasks - dialogue question answering and dialogue response prediction - we show that our STRUDEL dialogue comprehension model can significantly improve the dialogue comprehension performance of transformer encoder language models.

RULE: Reliable Multimodal RAG for Factuality in Medical Vision Language ModelsPeng Xia, Kangyu Zhu, Haoran Li et al.
The recent emergence of Medical Large Vision Language Models (Med-LVLMs) has enhanced medical diagnosis. However, current Med-LVLMs frequently encounter factual issues, often generating responses that do not align with established medical facts. Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), which utilizes external knowledge, can improve the factual accuracy of these models but introduces two major challenges. First, limited retrieved contexts might not cover all necessary information, while excessive retrieval can introduce irrelevant and inaccurate references, interfering with the model's generation. Second, in cases where the model originally responds correctly, applying RAG can lead to an over-reliance on retrieved contexts, resulting in incorrect answers. To address these issues, we propose RULE, which consists of two components. First, we introduce a provably effective strategy for controlling factuality risk through the calibrated selection of the number of retrieved contexts. Second, based on samples where over-reliance on retrieved contexts led to errors, we curate a preference dataset to fine-tune the model, balancing its dependence on inherent knowledge and retrieved contexts for generation. We demonstrate the effectiveness of RULE on medical VQA and report generation tasks across three datasets, achieving an average improvement of 47.4% in factual accuracy. Prompt-driven efficient Open-set Semi-supervised LearningHaoran Li, Chun-Mei Feng, Tao Zhou et al. · meta-ai
Open-set semi-supervised learning (OSSL) has attracted growing interest, which investigates a more practical scenario where out-of-distribution (OOD) samples are only contained in unlabeled data. Existing OSSL methods like OpenMatch learn an OOD detector to identify outliers, which often update all modal parameters (i.e., full fine-tuning) to propagate class information from labeled data to unlabeled ones. Currently, prompt learning has been developed to bridge gaps between pre-training and fine-tuning, which shows higher computational efficiency in several downstream tasks. In this paper, we propose a prompt-driven efficient OSSL framework, called OpenPrompt, which can propagate class information from labeled to unlabeled data with only a small number of trainable parameters. We propose a prompt-driven joint space learning mechanism to detect OOD data by maximizing the distribution gap between ID and OOD samples in unlabeled data, thereby our method enables the outliers to be detected in a new way. The experimental results on three public datasets show that OpenPrompt outperforms state-of-the-art methods with less than 1% of trainable parameters. More importantly, OpenPrompt achieves a 4% improvement in terms of AUROC on outlier detection over a fully supervised model on CIFAR10.

We consider a continual learning (CL) problem with two linear regression tasks in the fixed design setting, where the feature vectors are assumed fixed and the labels are assumed to be random variables. We consider an $\ell_2$-regularized CL algorithm, which computes an Ordinary Least Squares parameter to fit the first dataset, then computes another parameter that fits the second dataset under an $\ell_2$-regularization penalizing its deviation from the first parameter, and outputs the second parameter. For this algorithm, we provide tight bounds on the average risk over the two tasks. Our risk bounds reveal a provable trade-off between forgetting and intransigence of the $\ell_2$-regularized CL algorithm: with a large regularization parameter, the algorithm output forgets less information about the first task but is intransigent to extract new information from the second task; and vice versa. Our results suggest that catastrophic forgetting could happen for CL with dissimilar tasks (under a precise similarity measurement) and that a well-tuned $\ell_2$-regularization can partially mitigate this issue by introducing intransigence.

Multi-step Jailbreaking Privacy Attacks on ChatGPTHaoran Li, Dadi Guo, Wei Fan et al.
With the rapid progress of large language models (LLMs), many downstream NLP tasks can be well solved given appropriate prompts. Though model developers and researchers work hard on dialog safety to avoid generating harmful content from LLMs, it is still challenging to steer AI-generated content (AIGC) for the human good. As powerful LLMs are devouring existing text data from various domains (e.g., GPT-3 is trained on 45TB texts), it is natural to doubt whether the private information is included in the training data and what privacy threats can these LLMs and their downstream applications bring. In this paper, we study the privacy threats from OpenAI's ChatGPT and the New Bing enhanced by ChatGPT and show that application-integrated LLMs may cause new privacy threats. To this end, we conduct extensive experiments to support our claims and discuss LLMs' privacy implications.

Abstractive summarization models typically generate content unfaithful to the input, thus highlighting the significance of evaluating the faithfulness of generated summaries. Most faithfulness metrics are only evaluated on news domain, can they be transferred to other summarization tasks? In this work, we first present a systematic study of faithfulness metrics for dialogue summarization. We evaluate common faithfulness metrics on dialogue datasets and observe that most metrics correlate poorly with human judgements despite performing well on news datasets. Given these findings, to improve existing metrics' performance on dialogue summarization, we first finetune on in-domain dataset, then apply unlikelihood training on negative samples, and show that they can successfully improve metric performance on dialogue data. Inspired by the strong zero-shot performance of the T0 language model, we further propose T0-Score -- a new metric for faithfulness evaluation, which shows consistent improvement against baseline metrics across multiple domains.

Steering LLM Viewpoints through Fabricated Evidence InjectionXi Yang, Chang Liu, Zhenglin Huang et al.
As chatbots increasingly influence daily decision-making, their potential to produce misleading responses poses substantial risks to users. This paper investigates a critical cognitive vulnerability in LLMs: their tendency to uncritically trust external context when presented with fabricated evidence bearing markers of credibility. We introduce Ghostwriter, a two-phase attack framework that first repackages misleading statements with fabricated rationales, then instruct target LLMs to incorporate these viewpoints when responding to relevant queries. Experiments on BBQ, ToxiGen, and our specialized dataset reveal that commercial LLMs without external safety classifiers remain highly vulnerable, while even frontier classifier-guarded models (e.g., GPT-5.4) reduce but do not eliminate the attack. Building on this, we explore multiple defense strategies, among which a tailored safety policy enables gpt-oss-safeguard to achieve 81% detection rate.

Improving Faithfulness of Abstractive Summarization by Controlling Confounding Effect of Irrelevant SentencesAsish Ghoshal, Arash Einolghozati, Ankit Arun et al. · berkeley, meta-ai
Lack of factual correctness is an issue that still plagues state-of-the-art summarization systems despite their impressive progress on generating seemingly fluent summaries. In this paper, we show that factual inconsistency can be caused by irrelevant parts of the input text, which act as confounders. To that end, we leverage information-theoretic measures of causal effects to quantify the amount of confounding and precisely quantify how they affect the summarization performance. Based on insights derived from our theoretical results, we design a simple multi-task model to control such confounding by leveraging human-annotated relevant sentences when available. Crucially, we give a principled characterization of data distributions where such confounding can be large thereby necessitating the use of human annotated relevant sentences to generate factual summaries. Our approach improves faithfulness scores by 20\% over strong baselines on AnswerSumm \citep{fabbri2021answersumm}, a conversation summarization dataset where lack of faithfulness is a significant issue due to the subjective nature of the task. Our best method achieves the highest faithfulness score while also achieving state-of-the-art results on standard metrics like ROUGE and METEOR. We corroborate these improvements through human evaluation.

LDA-1B: Scaling Latent Dynamics Action Model via Universal Embodied Data IngestionJiangran Lyu, Kai Liu, Xuheng Zhang et al.
Recent robot foundation models largely rely on large-scale behavior cloning, which imitates expert actions but discards transferable dynamics knowledge embedded in heterogeneous embodied data. While the Unified World Model (UWM) formulation has the potential to leverage such diverse data, existing instantiations struggle to scale to foundation-level due to coarse data usage and fragmented datasets. We introduce LDA-1B, a robot foundation model that scales through universal embodied data ingestion by jointly learning dynamics, policy, and visual forecasting, assigning distinct roles to data of varying quality. To support this regime at scale, we assemble and standardize EI-30k, an embodied interaction dataset comprising over 30k hours of human and robot trajectories in a unified format. Scalable dynamics learning over such heterogeneous data is enabled by prediction in a structured DINO latent space, which avoids redundant pixel-space appearance modeling. Complementing this representation, LDA-1B employs a multi-modal diffusion transformer to handle asynchronous vision and action streams, enabling stable training at the 1B-parameter scale. Experiments in simulation and the real world show LDA-1B outperforms prior methods (e.g., $π_{0.5}$) by up to 21\%, 48\%, and 23\% on contact-rich, dexterous, and long-horizon tasks, respectively. Notably, LDA-1B enables data-efficient fine-tuning, gaining 10\% by leveraging 30\% low-quality trajectories typically harmful and discarded.

TANDEM: Bi-Level Data Mixture Optimization with Twin NetworksJiaxing Wang, Deping Xiang, Jin Xu et al.
The capabilities of large language models (LLMs) significantly depend on training data drawn from various domains. Optimizing domain-specific mixture ratios can be modeled as a bi-level optimization problem, which we simplify into a single-level penalized form and solve with twin networks: a proxy model trained on primary data and a dynamically updated reference model trained with additional data. Our proposed method, Twin Networks for bi-level DatA mixturE optiMization (TANDEM), measures the data efficacy through the difference between the twin models and up-weights domains that benefit more from the additional data. TANDEM provides theoretical guarantees and wider applicability, compared to prior approaches. Furthermore, our bi-level perspective suggests new settings to study domain reweighting such as data-restricted scenarios and supervised fine-tuning, where optimized mixture ratios significantly improve the performance. Extensive experiments validate TANDEM's effectiveness in all scenarios.

Echo-Infinity: Learning Evolving Memory for Real-Time Infinite Video GenerationYuxuan Bian, Zeyue Xue, Songchun Zhang et al.
We present Echo Infinity, an autoregressive (AR) framework towards real-time infinite video generation that employs a learnable evolving memory to dynamically filter, abstract, and compress any-length history at constant cost. Existing methods mainly curate memory with predefined KV-cache schedules, fixed-ratio heuristic compression, or inference-time RoPE adaptation. These designs inevitably lose historical information and amplify compounding errors due to their limited cache window and ignorance of autoregressive generation noise. Inspired by human memory consolidation, Echo-Infinity replaces handcrafted memory curation with learnable Memory Query, which are updated by attention and a gating mechanism when past frames are evicted from the local window. The queries are optimized end-to-end with the video diffusion transformers (DiTs), forming an evolving memory that supports arbitrary compression ratios with constant computation independent of video length. They also act as a generalizable generation prior, improving quality even when only the optimized initial state is used. We further introduce Unified Relative RoPE Recipe, which anchors the sink frames to start from id 0 and lets the newest frame id grow at most to the DiTs' pretrained maximum temporal RoPE id throughout training and inference, freeing the model from the finite RoPE constraint and closing the train-test RoPE extrapolation gap. In long and short video generation, Echo-Infinity achieves state-of-the-art performance, and, to our knowledge, demonstrates promising 24-hour (>1.3 M frames) real-time rollouts for the first time, suggesting a practical path toward infinite video generation.

Can LLMs Time Travel? Enhancing Temporal Consistency in Legal Agentic Search through Reinforcement LearningWei Fan, Yining Zhou, Mufan Zhang et al.
While large language models (LLMs) augmented with agentic search capabilities show promise for legal reasoning, they overlook a fundamental constraint that applicable law must match the temporal context of each case, as retroactive application of statutes violates core legal principles and leads to erroneous conclusions. Our observations reveal that current legal LLMs suffer from temporal bias anchored to their training cutoff, while search agents rarely incorporate temporal constraints into queries, and that web search alone cannot provide the precise statute and precedent citations that legal reasoning demands. To address these challenges, we propose LegalSearch-R1, an end-to-end reinforcement learning framework that pairs local statute RAG for precise article matching with online web search for broader legal knowledge, trained on temporally-indexed data spanning multiple amendment periods to enforce temporal consistency. Extensive experiments on our benchmark covering 13 legal tasks demonstrate that our 7B-parameter agent outperforms state-of-the-art deep research frameworks and specialized legal LLMs by 12.9% to 29.8%, surpasses baselines by 57.7% to 80.3% on temporal consistency, and exhibits robust out-of-domain generalization. Tuna: Instruction Tuning using Feedback from Large Language ModelsHaoran Li, Yiran Liu, Xingxing Zhang et al.
Instruction tuning of open-source large language models (LLMs) like LLaMA, using direct outputs from more powerful LLMs such as Instruct-GPT and GPT-4, has proven to be a cost-effective way to align model behaviors with human preferences. However, the instruction-tuned model has only seen one response per instruction, lacking the knowledge of potentially better responses. In this paper, we propose finetuning an instruction-tuned LLM using our novel \textit{probabilistic ranking} and \textit{contextual ranking} approaches to increase the likelihood of generating better responses. Probabilistic ranking enables the instruction-tuned model to inherit the relative rankings of high-quality and low-quality responses from the teacher LLM. On the other hand, learning with contextual ranking allows the model to refine its own response distribution using the contextual understanding ability of stronger LLMs. Furthermore, we apply probabilistic ranking and contextual ranking sequentially to the instruction-tuned LLM. The resulting model, which we call \textbf{Tuna}, consistently improves the performance on Super Natural Instructions (119 test tasks), LMentry (25 test tasks), Vicuna QA, and can even obtain better results than several strong reinforcement learning baselines. AFL: A Single-Round Analytic Approach for Federated Learning with Pre-trained ModelsRun He, Kai Tong, Di Fang et al.
In this paper, we introduce analytic federated learning (AFL), a new training paradigm that brings analytical (i.e., closed-form) solutions to the federated learning (FL) with pre-trained models. Our AFL draws inspiration from analytic learning -- a gradient-free technique that trains neural networks with analytical solutions in one epoch. In the local client training stage, the AFL facilitates a one-epoch training, eliminating the necessity for multi-epoch updates. In the aggregation stage, we derive an absolute aggregation (AA) law. This AA law allows a single-round aggregation, reducing heavy communication overhead and achieving fast convergence by removing the need for multiple aggregation rounds. More importantly, the AFL exhibits a property that \textit{invariance to data partitioning}, meaning that regardless of how the full dataset is distributed among clients, the aggregated result remains identical. This could spawn various potentials, such as data heterogeneity invariance and client-number invariance. We conduct experiments across various FL settings including extremely non-IID ones, and scenarios with a large number of clients (e.g., $\ge 1000$). In all these settings, our AFL constantly performs competitively while existing FL techniques encounter various obstacles. CoNSoLe: Convex Neural Symbolic LearningHaoran Li, Yang Weng, Hanghang Tong
Learning the underlying equation from data is a fundamental problem in many disciplines. Recent advances rely on Neural Networks (NNs) but do not provide theoretical guarantees in obtaining the exact equations owing to the non-convexity of NNs. In this paper, we propose Convex Neural Symbolic Learning (CoNSoLe) to seek convexity under mild conditions. The main idea is to decompose the recovering process into two steps and convexify each step. In the first step of searching for right symbols, we convexify the deep Q-learning. The key is to maintain double convexity for both the negative Q-function and the negative reward function in each iteration, leading to provable convexity of the negative optimal Q function to learn the true symbol connections. Conditioned on the exact searching result, we construct a Locally Convex equation Learner (LoCaL) neural network to convexify the estimation of symbol coefficients. With such a design, we quantify a large region with strict convexity in the loss surface of LoCaL for commonly used physical functions. Finally, we demonstrate the superior performance of the CoNSoLe framework over the state-of-the-art on a diverse set of datasets.

SkillRevise: Improving LLM-Authored Agent Skills via Trace-Conditioned Skill RevisionYuxuan Liu, Zhaochen Su, Lingyun Xie et al.
Agent skills are procedural artifacts that enable LLM agents to execute workflows, verify constraints, and recover from failures. Existing self-evolving methods refine skills using accumulated trajectories. However, they struggle in cold-start settings, where only an initial, imperfect skill is available. Consequently, skill construction defaults to expert authoring or one-shot LLM generation. Expert-authored skills are costly and may not align with how LLM agents actually execute tasks, while one-shot generated skills can be syntactically well formed yet behaviorally weak. To bridge this gap, we propose SkillRevise, an execution-grounded framework designed to iteratively refine these initial skills. SkillRevise diagnoses skill defects from execution evidence, retrieves relevant repair principles from a general memory, and applies execution-anchored edits. By re-executing candidates and measuring empirical utility, it systematically retains the optimal skill version. Evaluated across three benchmarks and five LLMs, SkillRevise substantially outperforms one-shot baselines, improving the base agent's success rate on SkillsBench from 36.05% to 61.63%. Furthermore, the revised skills exhibit strong cross-model transferability, capturing generalized procedural knowledge over model-specific artifacts.

CoPE: Clipped RoPE as A Scalable Free Lunch for Long Context LLMsHaoran Li, Sucheng Ren, Alan Yuille et al.
Rotary Positional Embedding (RoPE) is a key component of context scaling in Large Language Models (LLMs). While various methods have been proposed to adapt RoPE to longer contexts, their guiding principles generally fall into two categories: (1) out-of-distribution (OOD) mitigation, which scales RoPE frequencies to accommodate unseen positions, and (2) Semantic Modeling, which posits that the attention scores computed with RoPE should always prioritize semantically similar tokens. In this work, we unify these seemingly distinct objectives through a minimalist intervention, namely CoPE: soft clipping lowfrequency components of RoPE. CoPE not only eliminates OOD outliers and refines semantic signals, but also prevents spectral leakage caused by hard clipping. Extensive experiments demonstrate that simply applying our soft clipping strategy to RoPE yields significant performance gains that scale up to 256k context length, validating our theoretical analysis and establishing CoPE as a new state-of-the-art for length generalization. Towards Long-Lived Robots: Continual Learning VLA Models via Reinforcement Fine-TuningYuan Liu, Haoran Li, Shuai Tian et al.
Pretrained on large-scale and diverse datasets, VLA models demonstrate strong generalization and adaptability as general-purpose robotic policies. However, Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT), which serves as the primary mechanism for adapting VLAs to downstream domains, requires substantial amounts of task-specific data and is prone to catastrophic forgetting. To address these limitations, we propose LifeLong-RFT, a simple yet effective Reinforcement Fine-Tuning (RFT) strategy for VLA models independent of online environmental feedback and pre-trained reward models. By integrating chunking-level on-policy reinforcement learning with the proposed multi-dimensional process reward mechanism, LifeLong-RFT quantifies the heterogeneous contributions of intermediate action chunks across three dimensions to facilitate policy optimization. Specifically, (1) the Quantized Action Consistency Reward (QACR) ensures accurate action prediction within the discrete action space; (2) the Continuous Trajectory Alignment Reward (CTAR) aligns decoded continuous action chunks with reference trajectories to ensure precise control; (3) the Format Compliance Reward (FCR) guarantees the structural validity of outputs. Comprehensive experiments across SimplerEnv, LIBERO, and real-world tasks demonstrate that LifeLong-RFT exhibits strong performance in multi-task learning. Furthermore, for continual learning on the LIBERO benchmark, our method achieves a 22% gain in average success rate over SFT, while effectively adapting to new tasks using only 20% of the training data. While large-scale video diffusion models have demonstrated impressive capabilities in generating high-resolution and semantically rich content, a significant gap remains between their pretraining performance and real-world deployment requirements due to critical issues such as prompt sensitivity, temporal inconsistency, and prohibitive inference costs. To bridge this gap, we propose a comprehensive post-training framework that systematically aligns pretrained models with user intentions through four synergistic stages: we first employ Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) to transform the base model into a stable instruction-following policy, followed by a Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) stage that utilizes a novel Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) method tailored for video diffusion to enhance perceptual quality and temporal coherence; subsequently, we integrate Prompt Enhancement via a specialized language model to refine user inputs, and finally address system efficiency through Inference Optimization. Together, these components provide a systematic approach to improving visual quality, temporal coherence, and instruction following, while preserving the controllability learned during pretraining. The result is a practical blueprint for building scalable post-training pipelines that are stable, adaptable, and effective in real-world deployment. Extensive experiments demonstrate that this unified pipeline effectively mitigates common artifacts and significantly improves controllability and visual aesthetics while adhering to strict sampling cost constraints.

Advancing Event Causality Identification via Heuristic Semantic Dependency Inquiry NetworkHaoran Li, Qiang Gao, Hongmei Wu et al.
Event Causality Identification (ECI) focuses on extracting causal relations between events in texts. Existing methods for ECI primarily rely on causal features and external knowledge. However, these approaches fall short in two dimensions: (1) causal features between events in a text often lack explicit clues, and (2) external knowledge may introduce bias, while specific problems require tailored analyses. To address these issues, we propose SemDI - a simple and effective Semantic Dependency Inquiry Network for ECI. SemDI captures semantic dependencies within the context using a unified encoder. Then, it utilizes a Cloze Analyzer to generate a fill-in token based on comprehensive context understanding. Finally, this fill-in token is used to inquire about the causal relation between two events. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of SemDI, surpassing state-of-the-art methods on three widely used benchmarks. Code is available at https://github.com/hrlics/SemDI.

SciCustom: A Framework for Custom Evaluation of Scientific Capabilities in Large Language ModelsYiyang Gu, Junwei Yang, Junyu Luo et al.
Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly applied to scientific research, yet existing evaluations often fail to reflect the fine-grained capabilities required in practice. Most benchmarks are manually curated or domain-generic, limiting scalability and alignment with real scientific use cases. In this paper, we propose a new framework named SciCustom to address the problem. It enables the custom construction of benchmarks from large-scale scientific data to evaluate application-specific scientific capabilities in LLMs. SciCustom first organizes scientific knowledge into ontology-grounded knowledge units with controlled granularity and trains a tagger to map large-scale data instances into this knowledge space. Given a custom requirement, relevant knowledge units are identified via voting-based multi-model consensus. These units enable relevance-aware benchmark retrieval via binary search, followed by proxy subset selection and data-grounded benchmark generation for efficient evaluation. Experiments in chemistry and healthcare demonstrate that SciCustom reveals fine-grained differences in LLM scientific capabilities that standard benchmarks overlook, while requiring neither expert annotation nor synthetic question generation. The advancement of large language models (LLMs) has significantly enhanced the ability to effectively tackle various downstream NLP tasks and unify these tasks into generative pipelines. On the one hand, powerful language models, trained on massive textual data, have brought unparalleled accessibility and usability for both models and users. On the other hand, unrestricted access to these models can also introduce potential malicious and unintentional privacy risks. Despite ongoing efforts to address the safety and privacy concerns associated with LLMs, the problem remains unresolved. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive analysis of the current privacy attacks targeting LLMs and categorize them according to the adversary's assumed capabilities to shed light on the potential vulnerabilities present in LLMs. Then, we present a detailed overview of prominent defense strategies that have been developed to counter these privacy attacks. Beyond existing works, we identify upcoming privacy concerns as LLMs evolve. Lastly, we point out several potential avenues for future exploration.

PrivLM-Bench: A Multi-level Privacy Evaluation Benchmark for Language ModelsHaoran Li, Dadi Guo, Donghao Li et al.
The rapid development of language models (LMs) brings unprecedented accessibility and usage for both models and users. On the one hand, powerful LMs achieve state-of-the-art performance over numerous downstream NLP tasks. On the other hand, more and more attention is paid to unrestricted model accesses that may bring malicious privacy risks of data leakage. To address these issues, many recent works propose privacy-preserving language models (PPLMs) with differential privacy (DP). Unfortunately, different DP implementations make it challenging for a fair comparison among existing PPLMs. In this paper, we present PrivLM-Bench, a multi-perspective privacy evaluation benchmark to empirically and intuitively quantify the privacy leakage of LMs. Instead of only reporting DP parameters, PrivLM-Bench sheds light on the neglected inference data privacy during actual usage. PrivLM-Bench first clearly defines multi-faceted privacy objectives. Then, PrivLM-Bench constructs a unified pipeline to perform private fine-tuning. Lastly, PrivLM-Bench performs existing privacy attacks on LMs with pre-defined privacy objectives as the empirical evaluation results. The empirical attack results are used to fairly and intuitively evaluate the privacy leakage of various PPLMs. We conduct extensive experiments on three datasets of GLUE for mainstream LMs.

Robust Hidden Topology Identification in Distribution SystemsHaoran Li, Yang Weng, Yizheng Liao et al.
With more distributed energy resources (DERs) connected to distribution grids, better monitoring and control are needed, where identifying the topology accurately is the prerequisite. However, due to frequent re-configurations, operators usually cannot know a complete structure in distribution grids. Luckily, the growing data from smart sensors, restricted by Ohm law, provides the possibility of topology inference. In this paper, we show how line parameters of Ohm equation can be estimated for topology identification even when there are hidden nodes. Specifically, the introduced learning method recursively conducts hidden-node detection and impedance calculation. However, the assumptions on uncorrelated data, availability of phasor measurements, and a balanced system, are not met in practices, causing large errors. To resolve these problems, we employ Cholesky whitening first with a proof for measurement decorrelations. For increasing robustness further, we show how to handle practical scenarios when only measurement magnitudes are available or when the grid is three-phase unbalanced. Numerical performance is verified on multi-size distribution grids with both simulation and real-world data.

AM$^3$Safety: Towards Data Efficient Alignment of Multi-modal Multi-turn Safety for MLLMsHan Zhu, Jiale Chen, Chengkun Cai et al.
Multi-modal Large Language Models (MLLMs) are increasingly deployed in interactive applications. However, their safety vulnerabilities become pronounced in multi-turn multi-modal scenarios, where harmful intent can be gradually reconstructed across turns, and security protocols fade into oblivion as the conversation progresses. Existing Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) alignment methods are largely developed for single-turn visual question-answer (VQA) task and often require costly manual preference annotations, limiting their effectiveness and scalability in dialogues. To address this challenge, we present InterSafe-V, an open-source multi-modal dialogue dataset containing 11,270 dialogues and 500 specially designed refusal VQA samples. This dataset, constructed through interaction between several models, is designed to more accurately reflect real-world scenarios and includes specialized VQA pairs tailored for specific domains. Building on this dataset, we propose AM$^3$Safety, a framework that combines a cold-start refusal phase with Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) fine-tuning using turn-aware dual-objective rewards across entire dialogues. Experiments on Qwen2.5-VL-7B-Instruct and LLaVA-NeXT-7B show more than 10\% decrease in Attack Success Rate (ASR) together with an increment of at least 8\% in harmless dimension and over 13\% in helpful dimension of MLLMs on multi-modal multi-turn safety benchmarks, while preserving their general abilities.

Cross-domain Random Pre-training with Prototypes for Reinforcement LearningXin Liu, Yaran Chen, Haoran Li et al.

Unsupervised cross-domain Reinforcement Learning (RL) pre-training shows great potential for challenging continuous visual control but poses a big challenge. In this paper, we propose \textbf{C}ross-domain \textbf{R}andom \textbf{P}re-\textbf{T}raining with \textbf{pro}totypes (CRPTpro), a novel, efficient, and effective self-supervised cross-domain RL pre-training framework. CRPTpro decouples data sampling from encoder pre-training, proposing decoupled random collection to easily and quickly generate a qualified cross-domain pre-training dataset. Moreover, a novel prototypical self-supervised algorithm is proposed to pre-train an effective visual encoder that is generic across different domains. Without finetuning, the cross-domain encoder can be implemented for challenging downstream tasks defined in different domains, either seen or unseen. Compared with recent advanced methods, CRPTpro achieves better performance on downstream policy learning without extra training on exploration agents for data collection, greatly reducing the burden of pre-training. We conduct extensive experiments across eight challenging continuous visual-control domains, including balance control, robot locomotion, and manipulation. CRPTpro significantly outperforms the next best Proto-RL(C) on 11/12 cross-domain downstream tasks with only 54.5\% wall-clock pre-training time, exhibiting state-of-the-art pre-training performance with greatly improved pre-training efficiency.

DIGEST: Deeply supervIsed knowledGE tranSfer neTwork learning for brain tumor segmentation with incomplete multi-modal MRI scansHaoran Li, Cheng Li, Weijian Huang et al.
Brain tumor segmentation based on multi-modal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays a pivotal role in assisting brain cancer diagnosis, treatment, and postoperative evaluations. Despite the achieved inspiring performance by existing automatic segmentation methods, multi-modal MRI data are still unavailable in real-world clinical applications due to quite a few uncontrollable factors (e.g. different imaging protocols, data corruption, and patient condition limitations), which lead to a large performance drop during practical applications. In this work, we propose a Deeply supervIsed knowledGE tranSfer neTwork (DIGEST), which achieves accurate brain tumor segmentation under different modality-missing scenarios. Specifically, a knowledge transfer learning frame is constructed, enabling a student model to learn modality-shared semantic information from a teacher model pretrained with the complete multi-modal MRI data. To simulate all the possible modality-missing conditions under the given multi-modal data, we generate incomplete multi-modal MRI samples based on Bernoulli sampling. Finally, a deeply supervised knowledge transfer loss is designed to ensure the consistency of the teacher-student structure at different decoding stages, which helps the extraction of inherent and effective modality representations. Experiments on the BraTS 2020 dataset demonstrate that our method achieves promising results for the incomplete multi-modal MR image segmentation task.

Robustness via Referencing: Defending against Prompt Injection Attacks by Referencing the Executed InstructionYulin Chen, Haoran Li, Yuan Sui et al.
Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated impressive performance and have come to dominate the field of natural language processing (NLP) across various tasks. However, due to their strong instruction-following capabilities and inability to distinguish between instructions and data content, LLMs are vulnerable to prompt injection attacks. These attacks manipulate LLMs into deviating from the original input instructions and executing maliciously injected instructions within data content, such as web documents retrieved from search engines. Existing defense methods, including prompt-engineering and fine-tuning approaches, typically instruct models to follow the original input instructions while suppressing their tendencies to execute injected instructions. However, our experiments reveal that suppressing instruction-following tendencies is challenging. Through analyzing failure cases, we observe that although LLMs tend to respond to any recognized instructions, they are aware of which specific instructions they are executing and can correctly reference them within the original prompt. Motivated by these findings, we propose a novel defense method that leverages, rather than suppresses, the instruction-following abilities of LLMs. Our approach prompts LLMs to generate responses that include both answers and their corresponding instruction references. Based on these references, we filter out answers not associated with the original input instructions. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms prompt-engineering baselines and achieves performance comparable to fine-tuning methods, reducing the attack success rate (ASR) to 0 percent in some scenarios. Moreover, our approach has minimal impact on overall utility.

FedHPro: Federated Hyper-Prototype Learning via Gradient MatchingHuan Wang, Jun Shen, Haoran Li et al.
Federated Learning (FL) enables collaborative training of distributed clients while protecting privacy. To enhance generalization capability in FL, prototype-based FL is in the spotlight, since shared global prototypes offer semantic anchors for aligning client-specific local prototypes. However, existing methods update global prototypes at the prototype-level via averaging local prototypes or refining global anchors, which often leads to semantic drift across clients and subsequently yields a misaligned global signal. To alleviate this issue, we introduce hyper-prototypes, defined by a set of learnable global class-wise prototypes to preserve underlying semantic knowledge across clients. The hyper-prototypes are optimized via gradient matching to align with class-relevant characteristics distilled directly from clients' real samples, rather than prototype-level descriptors. We further propose FedHPro, a Federated Hyper-Prototype Learning framework, to leverage hyper-prototypes to promote inter-class separability via mutual-contrastive learning with client-specific margin, while encouraging intra-class uniformity through a consistency penalty. Comprehensive experiments under diverse heterogeneous scenarios confirm that 1) hyper-prototypes produce a more semantically consistent global signal, and 2) FedHPro achieves state-of-the-art performance on several benchmark datasets. Boosting Continuous Control with Consistency PolicyYuhui Chen, Haoran Li, Dongbin Zhao
Due to its training stability and strong expression, the diffusion model has attracted considerable attention in offline reinforcement learning. However, several challenges have also come with it: 1) The demand for a large number of diffusion steps makes the diffusion-model-based methods time inefficient and limits their applications in real-time control; 2) How to achieve policy improvement with accurate guidance for diffusion model-based policy is still an open problem. Inspired by the consistency model, we propose a novel time-efficiency method named Consistency Policy with Q-Learning (CPQL), which derives action from noise by a single step. By establishing a mapping from the reverse diffusion trajectories to the desired policy, we simultaneously address the issues of time efficiency and inaccurate guidance when updating diffusion model-based policy with the learned Q-function. We demonstrate that CPQL can achieve policy improvement with accurate guidance for offline reinforcement learning, and can be seamlessly extended for online RL tasks. Experimental results indicate that CPQL achieves new state-of-the-art performance on 11 offline and 21 online tasks, significantly improving inference speed by nearly 45 times compared to Diffusion-QL. Privacy Checklist: Privacy Violation Detection Grounding on Contextual Integrity TheoryHaoran Li, Wei Fan, Yulin Chen et al.
Privacy research has attracted wide attention as individuals worry that their private data can be easily leaked during interactions with smart devices, social platforms, and AI applications. Computer science researchers, on the other hand, commonly study privacy issues through privacy attacks and defenses on segmented fields. Privacy research is conducted on various sub-fields, including Computer Vision (CV), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Computer Networks. Within each field, privacy has its own formulation. Though pioneering works on attacks and defenses reveal sensitive privacy issues, they are narrowly trapped and cannot fully cover people's actual privacy concerns. Consequently, the research on general and human-centric privacy research remains rather unexplored. In this paper, we formulate the privacy issue as a reasoning problem rather than simple pattern matching. We ground on the Contextual Integrity (CI) theory which posits that people's perceptions of privacy are highly correlated with the corresponding social context. Based on such an assumption, we develop the first comprehensive checklist that covers social identities, private attributes, and existing privacy regulations. Unlike prior works on CI that either cover limited expert annotated norms or model incomplete social context, our proposed privacy checklist uses the whole Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) as an example, to show that we can resort to large language models (LLMs) to completely cover the HIPAA's regulations. Additionally, our checklist also gathers expert annotations across multiple ontologies to determine private information including but not limited to personally identifiable information (PII). We use our preliminary results on the HIPAA to shed light on future context-centric privacy research to cover more privacy regulations, social norms and standards.

REFORGE: Multi-modal Attacks Reveal Vulnerable Concept Unlearning in Image Generation ModelsYong Zou, Haoran Li, Fanxiao Li et al.
Recent progress in image generation models (IGMs) enables high-fidelity content creation but also amplifies risks, including the reproduction of copyrighted content and the generation of offensive content. Image Generation Model Unlearning (IGMU) mitigates these risks by removing harmful concepts without full retraining. Despite growing attention, the robustness under adversarial inputs, particularly image-side threats in black-box settings, remains underexplored. To bridge this gap, we present REFORGE, a black-box red-teaming framework that evaluates IGMU robustness via adversarial image prompts. REFORGE initializes stroke-based images and optimizes perturbations with a cross-attention-guided masking strategy that allocates noise to concept-relevant regions, balancing attack efficacy and visual fidelity. Extensive experiments across representative unlearning tasks and defenses demonstrate that REFORGE significantly improves attack success rate while achieving stronger semantic alignment and higher efficiency than involved baselines. These results expose persistent vulnerabilities in current IGMU methods and highlight the need for robustness-aware unlearning against multi-modal adversarial attacks. Multi-Agent Coordination Adaptation via Structure-Guided OrchestrationHaoran Li, Shulun Chen, Shaoyuan Sun et al.
As large language model (LLM)-based multi-agent systems scale to handle increasingly complex tasks, balancing structural stability and dynamic adaptability becomes increasingly challenging. Existing systems typically adopt either structure-centric methods, committing to structures determined upfront that limit fine-grained control, or orchestration-centric methods, adapting decisions dynamically while leaving coordination structure implicit and unstable. To address this challenge, we revisit multi-agent coordination from a probabilistic perspective, casting it as posterior inference over the joint distribution of structure and orchestration. We introduce MACA, an automated coordination framework that learns a task- and budget-conditioned structural prior over agent participation and interactions. This prior guides a policy-based orchestration as an approximation to posterior inference, enabling efficient solutions with fine-grained control. Across benchmarks, MACA outperforms adaptive multi-agent baselines by an average of 8.42% while using 43.19% fewer tokens. Further investigation reveals that joint adaptation of structure and orchestration suppresses redundant interactions, converging coordination toward task-effective execution.

Mechanics-related problems often present unique challenges in achieving accurate geometric and physical representations, particularly for non-uniform structures. Graph neural networks (GNNs) have emerged as a promising tool to tackle these challenges by adeptly learning from graph data with irregular underlying structures. Consequently, recent years have witnessed a surge in complex mechanics-related applications inspired by the advancements of GNNs. Despite this process, there is a notable absence of a systematic review addressing the recent advancement of GNNs in solving mechanics-related problems. To bridge this gap, this review article aims to provide an in-depth overview of the GNN applications in mechanics-related domains while identifying key challenges and outlining potential future research directions. In this review article, we begin by introducing the fundamental algorithms of GNNs that are widely employed in mechanics-related applications. We provide a concise explanation of their underlying principles to establish a solid understanding that will serve as a basis for exploring the applications of GNNs in mechanics-related domains. The scope of this paper is intended to cover the categorisation of literature into solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, and interdisciplinary mechanics-related domains, providing a comprehensive summary of graph representation methodologies, GNN architectures, and further discussions in their respective subdomains. Additionally, open data and source codes relevant to these applications are summarised for the convenience of future researchers. This article promotes an interdisciplinary integration of GNNs and mechanics and provides a guide for researchers interested in applying GNNs to solve complex mechanics-related problems.

Towards Practical Lossless Neural Compression for LiDAR Point CloudsPengpeng Yu, Haoran Li, Runqing Jiang et al.
LiDAR point clouds are fundamental to various applications, yet the extreme sparsity of high-precision geometric details hinders efficient context modeling, thereby limiting the compression speed and performance of existing methods. To address this challenge, we propose a compact representation for efficient predictive lossless coding. Our framework comprises two lightweight modules. First, the Geometry Re-Densification Module iteratively densifies encoded sparse geometry, extracts features at a dense scale, and then sparsifies the features for predictive coding. This module avoids costly computation on highly sparse details while maintaining a lightweight prediction head. Second, the Cross-scale Feature Propagation Module leverages occupancy cues from multiple resolution levels to guide hierarchical feature propagation, enabling information sharing across scales and reducing redundant feature extraction. Additionally, we introduce an integer-only inference pipeline to enable bit-exact cross-platform consistency, which avoids the entropy-coding collapse observed in existing neural compression methods and further accelerates coding. X-DiffVLA: X-Embodied Diffusion Action Heads for Vision-Language-Action ModelsBoyu Li, Chaoyi Xu, Haoqi Yuan et al.
Learning universal policies from cross-embodied data remains a fundamental challenge in robotics. Although Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models are pre-trained on large and diverse datasets, they typically rely on embodiment-specific fine-tuning to achieve strong performance in downstream tasks. This requirement severely limits their generalization capability and restricts knowledge transfer across embodiments performing similar tasks. To overcome these limitations, we focus on cross-embodied settings with shared robotic bases and heterogeneous end-effectors, and propose X-DiffVLA, a diffusion-based VLA model featuring a unified cross-embodied action head. X-DiffVLA can leverage the generative strengths of diffusion models to capture both the diversity and latent correlations in cross-embodied datasets. Specifically, we introduce Embodiment Forcing, a classifier-free guidance technique to implicitly steer action generation toward embodiment-specific functional components, capturing fine-grained structural nuances without explicit supervision. In addition, a Morphological Tree Diffusion approach is designed to strengthen behavioral correlations across diverse end-effectors, maximizing the transferability of heterogeneous demonstrations. Experimental results across RoboCasa and Isaac Gym, covering different embodiments from grippers to dexterous hands, show that X-DiffVLA achieves state-of-the-art performance, with improvements of 15.3% and 12.5%, respectively. Real-world evaluations further validate the robustness of the proposed framework and its effectiveness in scalable cross-embodied policy learning.

Reinforcement learning offers a promising approach for scan-order optimisation in laser additive manufacturing, where sequential scan decisions critically influence thermal accumulation, residual stress, distortion, and final part quality. A central challenge in applying RL to this domain lies in reward and world-model fidelity: full finite-element analysis is computationally prohibitive for dense in-the-loop evaluation, while cheap thermo-inspired proxy metrics, though efficient, may capture only partial aspects of the true thermo-mechanical objectives. This paper investigates a bilevel Proxy--FEA diagnostic framework for reward and world-model diagnosis in reinforcement-learning-guided scan-order optimisation. The lower level employs lightweight scan-path and thermo-inspired proxies for rapid candidate generation and preliminary policy-side screening, while the upper level utilises sparse Abaqus FEA simulations to provide simulation-based reference labels. The framework is examined on a simplified whole-track heating LDED32 stripe benchmark comprising ten representative scan strategies. Final-cooling residual Mises stress, U3 vertical distortion, and PEEQ plasticity metrics reveal an observed stress--distortion trade-off rather than a single monotonic quality objective. Within the evaluated set, the center_out strategy emerges as a robust compromise candidate, while raster_left_to_right and edge_in form opposing endpoints of the trade-off. Proxy--FEA alignment analysis shows that current cheap path-based metrics predominantly capture distortion-related (U3) behaviour and exhibit only weak correlation with the sparse FEA reference labels. These findings highlight that proxy-only reward designs risk misalignment in future RL training and underscore the value of sparse FEA reference signals for diagnostic-guided reward and world-model refinement prior to large-scale policy optimisation.

Into the Gray Zone: Domain Contexts Can Blur LLM Safety BoundariesKi Sen Hung, Xi Yang, Chang Liu et al.
A central goal of LLM alignment is to balance helpfulness with harmlessness, yet these objectives conflict when the same knowledge serves both legitimate and malicious purposes. This tension is amplified by context-sensitive alignment: we observe that domain-specific contexts (e.g., chemistry) selectively relax defenses for domain-relevant harmful knowledge, while safety-research contexts (e.g., jailbreak studies) trigger broader relaxation spanning all harm categories. To systematically exploit this vulnerability, we propose Jargon, a framework combining safety-research contexts with multi-turn adversarial interactions that achieves attack success rates exceeding 93% across seven frontier models, including GPT-5.2, Claude-4.5, and Gemini-3, substantially outperforming existing methods. Activation space analysis reveals that Jargon queries occupy an intermediate region between benign and harmful inputs, a gray zone where refusal decisions become unreliable. To mitigate this vulnerability, we design a policy-guided safeguard that steers models toward helpful yet harmless responses, and internalize this capability through alignment fine-tuning, reducing attack success rates while preserving helpfulness.

Maximizing mutual information between user-contexts and responses improve LLM personalization with no additional dataHyunji Nam, Haoran Li, Natasha Jaques
While post-training has successfully improved large language models (LLMs) across a variety of domains, these gains heavily rely on human-labeled data or external verifiers. Existing data has already been exploited, and new high-quality data is expensive to collect. More fundamentally, true intelligence goes far beyond tasks that are easily verifiable. Therefore, we need self-improvement frameworks that allow models to improve without external oversight. We propose *Mutual Information Preference Optimization (MIPO)*, a contrastive data augmentation method that constructs preference pairs by generating a positive response conditioning on the correct prompt, and a negative response by conditioning on a random, unrelated prompt. We show that using Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) to learn from this paired data maximizes pointwise conditional mutual information (MI) (under the base LLM) between prompts and model responses. Empirical results with various-sized Llama- and Qwen-Instruct models show that when used to maximize MI between user context and response, MIPO provides an effective personalization technique, achieving 3-40% improvements on personalization tasks using real-user datasets compared to strong baselines. Surprisingly, MIPO can also be applied to improve performance on math and multiple-choice problems, yielding 1-18% **without any additional data or human supervision**. These results suggest a promising direction for self-improvement.

MMed-RAG: Versatile Multimodal RAG System for Medical Vision Language ModelsPeng Xia, Kangyu Zhu, Haoran Li et al.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has demonstrated significant potential in healthcare, particularly in disease diagnosis and treatment planning. Recent progress in Medical Large Vision-Language Models (Med-LVLMs) has opened up new possibilities for interactive diagnostic tools. However, these models often suffer from factual hallucination, which can lead to incorrect diagnoses. Fine-tuning and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) have emerged as methods to address these issues. However, the amount of high-quality data and distribution shifts between training data and deployment data limit the application of fine-tuning methods. Although RAG is lightweight and effective, existing RAG-based approaches are not sufficiently general to different medical domains and can potentially cause misalignment issues, both between modalities and between the model and the ground truth. In this paper, we propose a versatile multimodal RAG system, MMed-RAG, designed to enhance the factuality of Med-LVLMs. Our approach introduces a domain-aware retrieval mechanism, an adaptive retrieved contexts selection method, and a provable RAG-based preference fine-tuning strategy. These innovations make the RAG process sufficiently general and reliable, significantly improving alignment when introducing retrieved contexts. Experimental results across five medical datasets (involving radiology, ophthalmology, pathology) on medical VQA and report generation demonstrate that MMed-RAG can achieve an average improvement of 43.8% in the factual accuracy of Med-LVLMs. Our data and code are available in https://github.com/richard-peng-xia/MMed-RAG.

Multi-modal Learning based Prediction for DiseaseYaran Chen, Xueyu Chen, Yu Han et al.
Non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common cause of chronic liver disease, which can be predicted accurately to prevent advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis. While, a liver biopsy, the gold standard for NAFLD diagnosis, is invasive, expensive, and prone to sampling errors. Therefore, non-invasive studies are extremely promising, yet they are still in their infancy due to the lack of comprehensive research data and intelligent methods for multi-modal data. This paper proposes a NAFLD diagnosis system (DeepFLDDiag) combining a comprehensive clinical dataset (FLDData) and a multi-modal learning based NAFLD prediction method (DeepFLD). The dataset includes over 6000 participants physical examinations, laboratory and imaging studies, extensive questionnaires, and facial images of partial participants, which is comprehensive and valuable for clinical studies. From the dataset, we quantitatively analyze and select clinical metadata that most contribute to NAFLD prediction. Furthermore, the proposed DeepFLD, a deep neural network model designed to predict NAFLD using multi-modal input, including metadata and facial images, outperforms the approach that only uses metadata. Satisfactory performance is also verified on other unseen datasets. Inspiringly, DeepFLD can achieve competitive results using only facial images as input rather than metadata, paving the way for a more robust and simpler non-invasive NAFLD diagnosis.

WebAgentGuard: A Reasoning-Driven Guard Model for Detecting Prompt Injection Attacks in Web AgentsYulin Chen, Tri Cao, Haoran Li et al.
Web agents powered by vision-language models (VLMs) enable autonomous interaction with web environments by perceiving and acting on both visual and textual webpage content to accomplish user-specified tasks. However, they are highly vulnerable to prompt injection attacks, where adversarial instructions embedded in HTML or rendered screenshots can manipulate agent behavior and lead to harmful outcomes such as information leakage. Existing defenses, including system prompt defenses and direct fine-tuning of agents, have shown limited effectiveness. To address this issue, we propose a defense framework in which a web agent operates in parallel with a dedicated guard agent, decoupling prompt injection detection from the agent's own reasoning. Building on this framework, we introduce WebAgentGuard, a reasoning-driven, multimodal guard model for prompt injection detection. We construct a synthetic multimodal dataset using GPT-5 spanning 164 topics and 230 visual and UI design styles, and train the model via reasoning-intensive supervised fine-tuning followed by reinforcement learning. Experiments across multiple benchmarks show that WebAgentGuard consistently outperforms strong baselines while preserving agent utility, without introducing additional latency.

PWAVEP: Purifying Imperceptible Adversarial Perturbations in 3D Point Clouds via Spectral Graph WaveletsHaoran Li, Renyang Liu, Hongjia Liu et al.
Recent progress in adversarial attacks on 3D point clouds, particularly in achieving spatial imperceptibility and high attack performance, presents significant challenges for defenders. Current defensive approaches remain cumbersome, often requiring invasive model modifications, expensive training procedures or auxiliary data access. To address these threats, in this paper, we propose a plug-and-play and non-invasive defense mechanism in the spectral domain, grounded in a theoretical and empirical analysis of the relationship between imperceptible perturbations and high-frequency spectral components. Building upon these insights, we introduce a novel purification framework, termed PWAVEP, which begins by computing a spectral graph wavelet domain saliency score and local sparsity score for each point. Guided by these values, PWAVEP adopts a hierarchical strategy, it eliminates the most salient points, which are identified as hardly recoverable adversarial outliers. Simultaneously, it applies a spectral filtering process to a broader set of moderately salient points. This process leverages a graph wavelet transform to attenuate high-frequency coefficients associated with the targeted points, thereby effectively suppressing adversarial noise. Extensive evaluations demonstrate that the proposed PWAVEP achieves superior accuracy and robustness compared to existing approaches, advancing the state-of-the-art in 3D point cloud purification. Generalizing Consistency Policy to Visual RL with Prioritized Proximal Experience RegularizationHaoran Li, Zhennan Jiang, Yuhui Chen et al.
With high-dimensional state spaces, visual reinforcement learning (RL) faces significant challenges in exploitation and exploration, resulting in low sample efficiency and training stability. As a time-efficient diffusion model, although consistency models have been validated in online state-based RL, it is still an open question whether it can be extended to visual RL. In this paper, we investigate the impact of non-stationary distribution and the actor-critic framework on consistency policy in online RL, and find that consistency policy was unstable during the training, especially in visual RL with the high-dimensional state space. To this end, we suggest sample-based entropy regularization to stabilize the policy training, and propose a consistency policy with prioritized proximal experience regularization (CP3ER) to improve sample efficiency. CP3ER achieves new state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance in 21 tasks across DeepMind control suite and Meta-world. To our knowledge, CP3ER is the first method to apply diffusion/consistency models to visual RL and demonstrates the potential of consistency models in visual RL. SDPL: Shifting-Dense Partition Learning for UAV-View Geo-LocalizationQuan Chen, Tingyu Wang, Zihao Yang et al.
Cross-view geo-localization aims to match images of the same target from different platforms, e.g., drone and satellite. It is a challenging task due to the changing appearance of targets and environmental content from different views. Most methods focus on obtaining more comprehensive information through feature map segmentation, while inevitably destroying the image structure, and are sensitive to the shifting and scale of the target in the query. To address the above issues, we introduce simple yet effective part-based representation learning, shifting-dense partition learning (SDPL). We propose a dense partition strategy (DPS), dividing the image into multiple parts to explore contextual information while explicitly maintaining the global structure. To handle scenarios with non-centered targets, we further propose the shifting-fusion strategy, which generates multiple sets of parts in parallel based on various segmentation centers, and then adaptively fuses all features to integrate their anti-offset ability. Extensive experiments show that SDPL is robust to position shifting, and performs com-petitively on two prevailing benchmarks, University-1652 and SUES-200.
