Kinematic-aware Prompting for Generalizable Articulated Object Manipulation with LLMs

Wenke Xia, Dong Wang, Xincheng Pang et al.

Generalizable articulated object manipulation is essential for home-assistant robots. Recent efforts focus on imitation learning from demonstrations or reinforcement learning in simulation, however, due to the prohibitive costs of real-world data collection and precise object simulation, it still remains challenging for these works to achieve broad adaptability across diverse articulated objects. Recently, many works have tried to utilize the strong in-context learning ability of Large Language Models (LLMs) to achieve generalizable robotic manipulation, but most of these researches focus on high-level task planning, sidelining low-level robotic control. In this work, building on the idea that the kinematic structure of the object determines how we can manipulate it, we propose a kinematic-aware prompting framework that prompts LLMs with kinematic knowledge of objects to generate low-level motion trajectory waypoints, supporting various object manipulation. To effectively prompt LLMs with the kinematic structure of different objects, we design a unified kinematic knowledge parser, which represents various articulated objects as a unified textual description containing kinematic joints and contact location. Building upon this unified description, a kinematic-aware planner model is proposed to generate precise 3D manipulation waypoints via a designed kinematic-aware chain-of-thoughts prompting method. Our evaluation spanned 48 instances across 16 distinct categories, revealing that our framework not only outperforms traditional methods on 8 seen categories but also shows a powerful zero-shot capability for 8 unseen articulated object categories. Moreover, the real-world experiments on 7 different object categories prove our framework's adaptability in practical scenarios. Code is released at https://github.com/GeWu-Lab/LLM_articulated_object_manipulation/tree/main.

X4D-SceneFormer: Enhanced Scene Understanding on 4D Point Cloud Videos through Cross-modal Knowledge Transfer

Linglin Jing, Ying Xue, Xu Yan et al.

The field of 4D point cloud understanding is rapidly developing with the goal of analyzing dynamic 3D point cloud sequences. However, it remains a challenging task due to the sparsity and lack of texture in point clouds. Moreover, the irregularity of point cloud poses a difficulty in aligning temporal information within video sequences. To address these issues, we propose a novel cross-modal knowledge transfer framework, called X4D-SceneFormer. This framework enhances 4D-Scene understanding by transferring texture priors from RGB sequences using a Transformer architecture with temporal relationship mining. Specifically, the framework is designed with a dual-branch architecture, consisting of an 4D point cloud transformer and a Gradient-aware Image Transformer (GIT). During training, we employ multiple knowledge transfer techniques, including temporal consistency losses and masked self-attention, to strengthen the knowledge transfer between modalities. This leads to enhanced performance during inference using single-modal 4D point cloud inputs. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superior performance of our framework on various 4D point cloud video understanding tasks, including action recognition, action segmentation and semantic segmentation. The results achieve 1st places, i.e., 85.3% (+7.9%) accuracy and 47.3% (+5.0%) mIoU for 4D action segmentation and semantic segmentation, on the HOI4D challenge\footnote{\url{http://www.hoi4d.top/}.}, outperforming previous state-of-the-art by a large margin. We release the code at https://github.com/jinglinglingling/X4D

Cross from Left to Right Brain: Adaptive Text Dreamer for Vision-and-Language Navigation

Pingrui Zhang, Yifei Su, Pengyuan Wu et al.

Vision-and-Language Navigation (VLN) requires the agent to navigate by following natural instructions under partial observability, making it difficult to align perception with language. Recent methods mitigate this by imagining future scenes, yet they rely on vision-based synthesis, leading to high computational cost and redundant details. To this end, we propose to adaptively imagine key environmental semantics via \textit{language} form, enabling a more reliable and efficient strategy. Specifically, we introduce a novel Adaptive Text Dreamer (ATD), a dual-branch self-guided imagination policy built upon a large language model (LLM). ATD is designed with a human-like left-right brain architecture, where the left brain focuses on logical integration, and the right brain is responsible for imaginative prediction of future scenes. To achieve this, we fine-tune only the Q-former within both brains to efficiently activate domain-specific knowledge in the LLM, enabling dynamic updates of logical reasoning and imagination during navigation. Furthermore, we introduce a cross-interaction mechanism to regularize the imagined outputs and inject them into a navigation expert module, allowing ATD to jointly exploit both the reasoning capacity of the LLM and the expertise of the navigation model. We conduct extensive experiments on the R2R benchmark, where ATD achieves state-of-the-art performance with fewer parameters. FairKV: Balancing Per-Head KV Cache for Fast Multi-GPU Inference

Bingzhe Zhao, Ke Cheng, Aomufei Yuan et al.

KV cache techniques in Transformer models aim to reduce redundant computations at the expense of substantially increased memory usage, making KV cache compression an important and popular research topic. Recently, state-of-the-art KV cache compression methods implement imbalanced, per-head allocation algorithms that dynamically adjust the KV cache budget for each attention head, achieving excellent performance in single-GPU scenarios. However, we observe that such imbalanced compression leads to significant load imbalance when deploying multi-GPU inference, as some GPUs become overburdened while others remain underutilized. In this paper, we propose FairKV, a method designed to ensure fair memory usage among attention heads in systems employing imbalanced KV cache compression. The core technique of FairKV is Fair-Copying, which replicates a small subset of memory-intensive attention heads across GPUs using data parallelism to mitigate load imbalance. Our experiments on popular models, including LLaMA 70b and Mistral 24b model, demonstrate that FairKV increases throughput by 1.66x compared to standard tensor parallelism inference. Our code will be released as open source upon acceptance.

FastUMI-100K: Advancing Data-driven Robotic Manipulation with a Large-scale UMI-style Dataset

Kehui Liu, Zhongjie Jia, Yang Li et al.

Data-driven robotic manipulation learning depends on large-scale, high-quality expert demonstration datasets. However, existing datasets, which primarily rely on human teleoperated robot collection, are limited in terms of scalability, trajectory smoothness, and applicability across different robotic embodiments in real-world environments. In this paper, we present FastUMI-100K, a large-scale UMI-style multimodal demonstration dataset, designed to overcome these limitations and meet the growing complexity of real-world manipulation tasks. Collected by FastUMI, a novel robotic system featuring a modular, hardware-decoupled mechanical design and an integrated lightweight tracking system, FastUMI-100K offers a more scalable, flexible, and adaptable solution to fulfill the diverse requirements of real-world robot demonstration data. Specifically, FastUMI-100K contains over 100K+ demonstration trajectories collected across representative household environments, covering 54 tasks and hundreds of object types. Our dataset integrates multimodal streams, including end-effector states, multi-view wrist-mounted fisheye images and textual annotations. Each trajectory has a length ranging from 120 to 500 frames. Experimental results demonstrate that FastUMI-100K enables high policy success rates across various baseline algorithms, confirming its robustness, adaptability, and real-world applicability for solving complex, dynamic manipulation challenges. The source code and dataset will be released in this link https://github.com/MrKeee/FastUMI-100K.

LiveScene: Language Embedding Interactive Radiance Fields for Physical Scene Rendering and Control

Delin Qu, Qizhi Chen, Pingrui Zhang et al.

This paper scales object-level reconstruction to complex scenes, advancing interactive scene reconstruction. We introduce two datasets, OmniSim and InterReal, featuring 28 scenes with multiple interactive objects. To tackle the challenge of inaccurate interactive motion recovery in complex scenes, we propose LiveScene, a scene-level language-embedded interactive radiance field that efficiently reconstructs and controls multiple objects. By decomposing the interactive scene into local deformable fields, LiveScene enables separate reconstruction of individual object motions, reducing memory consumption. Additionally, our interaction-aware language embedding localizes individual interactive objects, allowing for arbitrary control using natural language. Our approach demonstrates significant superiority in novel view synthesis, interactive scene control, and language grounding performance through extensive experiments.
