FMDNN: A Fuzzy-guided Multi-granular Deep Neural Network for Histopathological Image ClassificationWeiping Ding, Tianyi Zhou, Jiashuang Huang et al.
Histopathological image classification constitutes a pivotal task in computer-aided diagnostics. The precise identification and categorization of histopathological images are of paramount significance for early disease detection and treatment. In the diagnostic process of pathologists, a multi-tiered approach is typically employed to assess abnormalities in cell regions at different magnifications. However, feature extraction is often performed at a single granularity, overlooking the multi-granular characteristics of cells. To address this issue, we propose the Fuzzy-guided Multi-granularity Deep Neural Network (FMDNN). Inspired by the multi-granular diagnostic approach of pathologists, we perform feature extraction on cell structures at coarse, medium, and fine granularity, enabling the model to fully harness the information in histopathological images. We incorporate the theory of fuzzy logic to address the challenge of redundant key information arising during multi-granular feature extraction. Cell features are described from different perspectives using multiple fuzzy membership functions, which are fused to create universal fuzzy features. A fuzzy-guided cross-attention module guides universal fuzzy features toward multi-granular features. We propagate these features through an encoder to all patch tokens, aiming to achieve enhanced classification accuracy and robustness. In experiments on multiple public datasets, our model exhibits a significant improvement in accuracy over commonly used classification methods for histopathological image classification and shows commendable interpretability.
Seeking Common but Distinguishing Difference, A Joint Aspect-based Sentiment Analysis ModelHongjiang Jing, Zuchao Li, Hai Zhao et al.
Aspect-based sentiment analysis (ABSA) task consists of three typical subtasks: aspect term extraction, opinion term extraction, and sentiment polarity classification. These three subtasks are usually performed jointly to save resources and reduce the error propagation in the pipeline. However, most of the existing joint models only focus on the benefits of encoder sharing between subtasks but ignore the difference. Therefore, we propose a joint ABSA model, which not only enjoys the benefits of encoder sharing but also focuses on the difference to improve the effectiveness of the model. In detail, we introduce a dual-encoder design, in which a pair encoder especially focuses on candidate aspect-opinion pair classification, and the original encoder keeps attention on sequence labeling. Empirical results show that our proposed model shows robustness and significantly outperforms the previous state-of-the-art on four benchmark datasets.

Document-level Neural Machine Translation with Document EmbeddingsShu Jiang, Hai Zhao, Zuchao Li et al.
Standard neural machine translation (NMT) is on the assumption of document-level context independent. Most existing document-level NMT methods are satisfied with a smattering sense of brief document-level information, while this work focuses on exploiting detailed document-level context in terms of multiple forms of document embeddings, which is capable of sufficiently modeling deeper and richer document-level context. The proposed document-aware NMT is implemented to enhance the Transformer baseline by introducing both global and local document-level clues on the source end. Experiments show that the proposed method significantly improves the translation performance over strong baselines and other related studies.

Document-level Neural Machine Translation with Associated Memory NetworkShu Jiang, Rui Wang, Zuchao Li et al.
Standard neural machine translation (NMT) is on the assumption that the document-level context is independent. Most existing document-level NMT approaches are satisfied with a smattering sense of global document-level information, while this work focuses on exploiting detailed document-level context in terms of a memory network. The capacity of the memory network that detecting the most relevant part of the current sentence from memory renders a natural solution to model the rich document-level context. In this work, the proposed document-aware memory network is implemented to enhance the Transformer NMT baseline. Experiments on several tasks show that the proposed method significantly improves the NMT performance over strong Transformer baselines and other related studies.

Controllable Dual Skew Divergence Loss for Neural Machine TranslationZuchao Li, Hai Zhao, Yingting Wu et al.
In sequence prediction tasks like neural machine translation, training with cross-entropy loss often leads to models that overgeneralize and plunge into local optima. In this paper, we propose an extended loss function called \emph{dual skew divergence} (DSD) that integrates two symmetric terms on KL divergences with a balanced weight. We empirically discovered that such a balanced weight plays a crucial role in applying the proposed DSD loss into deep models. Thus we eventually develop a controllable DSD loss for general-purpose scenarios. Our experiments indicate that switching to the DSD loss after the convergence of ML training helps models escape local optima and stimulates stable performance improvements. Our evaluations on the WMT 2014 English-German and English-French translation tasks demonstrate that the proposed loss as a general and convenient mean for NMT training indeed brings performance improvement in comparison to strong baselines.

Judging Chemical Reaction Practicality From Positive Sample only LearningShu Jiang, Zhuosheng Zhang, Hai Zhao et al.
Chemical reaction practicality is the core task among all symbol intelligence based chemical information processing, for example, it provides indispensable clue for further automatic synthesis route inference. Considering that chemical reactions have been represented in a language form, we propose a new solution to generally judge the practicality of organic reaction without considering complex quantum physical modeling or chemistry knowledge. While tackling the practicality judgment as a machine learning task from positive and negative (chemical reaction) samples, all existing studies have to carefully handle the serious insufficiency issue on the negative samples. We propose an auto-construction method to well solve the extensively existed long-term difficulty. Experimental results show our model can effectively predict the practicality of chemical reactions, which achieves a high accuracy of 99.76\% on real large-scale chemical lab reaction practicality judgment.
