Structure Matters: Brain Graph Augmentation via Learnable Edge Masking for Data-efficient Psychiatric DiagnosisMujie Liu, Chenze Wang, Liping Chen et al.
The limited availability of labeled brain network data makes it challenging to achieve accurate and interpretable psychiatric diagnoses. While self-supervised learning (SSL) offers a promising solution, existing methods often rely on augmentation strategies that can disrupt crucial structural semantics in brain graphs. To address this, we propose SAM-BG, a two-stage framework for learning brain graph representations with structural semantic preservation. In the pre-training stage, an edge masker is trained on a small labeled subset to capture key structural semantics. In the SSL stage, the extracted structural priors guide a structure-aware augmentation process, enabling the model to learn more semantically meaningful and robust representations. Experiments on two real-world psychiatric datasets demonstrate that SAM-BG outperforms state-of-the-art methods, particularly in small-labeled data settings, and uncovers clinically relevant connectivity patterns that enhance interpretability. Heterogeneous network-based drug repurposing for COVID-19Shuting Jin, Xiangxiang Zeng, Wei Huang et al.
The Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) belongs to human coronaviruses (HCoVs), which spreads rapidly around the world. Compared with new drug development, drug repurposing may be the best shortcut for treating COVID-19. Therefore, we constructed a comprehensive heterogeneous network based on the HCoVs-related target proteins and use the previously proposed deepDTnet, to discover potential drug candidates for COVID-19. We obtain high performance in predicting the possible drugs effective for COVID-19 related proteins. In summary, this work utilizes a powerful heterogeneous network-based deep learning method, which may be beneficial to quickly identify candidate repurposable drugs toward future clinical trials for COVID-19. The code and data are available at https://github.com/stjin-XMU/HnDR-COVID.

Capturing Rich Behavior Representations: A Dynamic Action Semantic-Aware Graph Transformer for Video CaptioningCaihua Liu, Xu Li, Wenjing Xue et al.
Existing video captioning methods merely provide shallow or simplistic representations of object behaviors, resulting in superficial and ambiguous descriptions. However, object behavior is dynamic and complex. To comprehensively capture the essence of object behavior, we propose a dynamic action semantic-aware graph transformer. Firstly, a multi-scale temporal modeling module is designed to flexibly learn long and short-term latent action features. It not only acquires latent action features across time scales, but also considers local latent action details, enhancing the coherence and sensitiveness of latent action representations. Secondly, a visual-action semantic aware module is proposed to adaptively capture semantic representations related to object behavior, enhancing the richness and accurateness of action representations. By harnessing the collaborative efforts of these two modules,we can acquire rich behavior representations to generate human-like natural descriptions. Finally, this rich behavior representations and object representations are used to construct a temporal objects-action graph, which is fed into the graph transformer to model the complex temporal dependencies between objects and actions. To avoid adding complexity in the inference phase, the behavioral knowledge of the objects will be distilled into a simple network through knowledge distillation. The experimental results on MSVD and MSR-VTT datasets demonstrate that the proposed method achieves significant performance improvements across multiple metrics.
