Less is More: Consistent Video Depth Estimation with Masked Frames ModelingYiran Wang, Zhiyu Pan, Xingyi Li et al.
Temporal consistency is the key challenge of video depth estimation. Previous works are based on additional optical flow or camera poses, which is time-consuming. By contrast, we derive consistency with less information. Since videos inherently exist with heavy temporal redundancy, a missing frame could be recovered from neighboring ones. Inspired by this, we propose the frame masking network (FMNet), a spatial-temporal transformer network predicting the depth of masked frames based on their neighboring frames. By reconstructing masked temporal features, the FMNet can learn intrinsic inter-frame correlations, which leads to consistency. Compared with prior arts, experimental results demonstrate that our approach achieves comparable spatial accuracy and higher temporal consistency without any additional information. Design What You Desire: Icon Generation from Orthogonal Application and Theme LabelsYinpeng Chen, Zhiyu Pan, Min Shi et al.
Generative adversarial networks (GANs) have been trained to be professional artists able to create stunning artworks such as face generation and image style transfer. In this paper, we focus on a realistic business scenario: automated generation of customizable icons given desired mobile applications and theme styles. We first introduce a theme-application icon dataset, termed AppIcon, where each icon has two orthogonal theme and app labels. By investigating a strong baseline StyleGAN2, we observe mode collapse caused by the entanglement of the orthogonal labels. To solve this challenge, we propose IconGAN composed of a conditional generator and dual discriminators with orthogonal augmentations, and a contrastive feature disentanglement strategy is further designed to regularize the feature space of the two discriminators. Compared with other approaches, IconGAN indicates a superior advantage on the AppIcon benchmark. Further analysis also justifies the effectiveness of disentangling app and theme representations. When Epipolar Constraint Meets Non-local Operators in Multi-View StereoTianqi Liu, Xinyi Ye, Weiyue Zhao et al.
Learning-based multi-view stereo (MVS) method heavily relies on feature matching, which requires distinctive and descriptive representations. An effective solution is to apply non-local feature aggregation, e.g., Transformer. Albeit useful, these techniques introduce heavy computation overheads for MVS. Each pixel densely attends to the whole image. In contrast, we propose to constrain non-local feature augmentation within a pair of lines: each point only attends the corresponding pair of epipolar lines. Our idea takes inspiration from the classic epipolar geometry, which shows that one point with different depth hypotheses will be projected to the epipolar line on the other view. This constraint reduces the 2D search space into the epipolar line in stereo matching. Similarly, this suggests that the matching of MVS is to distinguish a series of points lying on the same line. Inspired by this point-to-line search, we devise a line-to-point non-local augmentation strategy. We first devise an optimized searching algorithm to split the 2D feature maps into epipolar line pairs. Then, an Epipolar Transformer (ET) performs non-local feature augmentation among epipolar line pairs. We incorporate the ET into a learning-based MVS baseline, named ET-MVSNet. ET-MVSNet achieves state-of-the-art reconstruction performance on both the DTU and Tanks-and-Temples benchmark with high efficiency. Code is available at https://github.com/TQTQliu/ET-MVSNet.

Find Beauty in the Rare: Contrastive Composition Feature Clustering for Nontrivial Cropping Box RegressionZhiyu Pan, Yinpeng Chen, Jiale Zhang et al.
Automatic image cropping algorithms aim to recompose images like human-being photographers by generating the cropping boxes with improved composition quality. Cropping box regression approaches learn the beauty of composition from annotated cropping boxes. However, the bias of annotations leads to quasi-trivial recomposing results, which has an obvious tendency to the average location of training samples. The crux of this predicament is that the task is naively treated as a box regression problem, where rare samples might be dominated by normal samples, and the composition patterns of rare samples are not well exploited. Observing that similar composition patterns tend to be shared by the cropping boundaries annotated nearly, we argue to find the beauty of composition from the rare samples by clustering the samples with similar cropping boundary annotations, ie, similar composition patterns. We propose a novel Contrastive Composition Clustering (C2C) to regularize the composition features by contrasting dynamically established similar and dissimilar pairs. In this way, common composition patterns of multiple images can be better summarized, which especially benefits the rare samples and endows our model with better generalizability to render nontrivial results. Extensive experimental results show the superiority of our model compared with prior arts. We also illustrate the philosophy of our design with an interesting analytical visualization.

Exposure Completing for Temporally Consistent Neural High Dynamic Range Video RenderingJiahao Cui, Wei Jiang, Zhan Peng et al.
High dynamic range (HDR) video rendering from low dynamic range (LDR) videos where frames are of alternate exposure encounters significant challenges, due to the exposure change and absence at each time stamp. The exposure change and absence make existing methods generate flickering HDR results. In this paper, we propose a novel paradigm to render HDR frames via completing the absent exposure information, hence the exposure information is complete and consistent. Our approach involves interpolating neighbor LDR frames in the time dimension to reconstruct LDR frames for the absent exposures. Combining the interpolated and given LDR frames, the complete set of exposure information is available at each time stamp. This benefits the fusing process for HDR results, reducing noise and ghosting artifacts therefore improving temporal consistency. Extensive experimental evaluations on standard benchmarks demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance, highlighting the importance of absent exposure completing in HDR video rendering. Through the Lens of Contrast: Self-Improving Visual Reasoning in VLMsZhiyu Pan, Yizheng Wu, Jiashen Hua et al.
Reasoning has emerged as a key capability of large language models. In linguistic tasks, this capability can be enhanced by self-improving techniques that refine reasoning paths for subsequent finetuning. However, extending these language-based self-improving approaches to vision language models (VLMs) presents a unique challenge:~visual hallucinations in reasoning paths cannot be effectively verified or rectified. Our solution starts with a key observation about visual contrast: when presented with a contrastive VQA pair, i.e., two visually similar images with synonymous questions, VLMs identify relevant visual cues more precisely. Motivated by this observation, we propose Visual Contrastive Self-Taught Reasoner (VC-STaR), a novel self-improving framework that leverages visual contrast to mitigate hallucinations in model-generated rationales. We collect a diverse suite of VQA datasets, curate contrastive pairs according to multi-modal similarity, and generate rationales using VC-STaR. Consequently, we obtain a new visual reasoning dataset, VisCoR-55K, which is then used to boost the reasoning capability of various VLMs through supervised finetuning. Extensive experiments show that VC-STaR not only outperforms existing self-improving approaches but also surpasses models finetuned on the SoTA visual reasoning datasets, demonstrating that the inherent contrastive ability of VLMs can bootstrap their own visual reasoning. Camera-LiDAR Cross-modality Gait RecognitionWenxuan Guo, Yingping Liang, Zhiyu Pan et al.
Gait recognition is a crucial biometric identification technique. Camera-based gait recognition has been widely applied in both research and industrial fields. LiDAR-based gait recognition has also begun to evolve most recently, due to the provision of 3D structural information. However, in certain applications, cameras fail to recognize persons, such as in low-light environments and long-distance recognition scenarios, where LiDARs work well. On the other hand, the deployment cost and complexity of LiDAR systems limit its wider application. Therefore, it is essential to consider cross-modality gait recognition between cameras and LiDARs for a broader range of applications. In this work, we propose the first cross-modality gait recognition framework between Camera and LiDAR, namely CL-Gait. It employs a two-stream network for feature embedding of both modalities. This poses a challenging recognition task due to the inherent matching between 3D and 2D data, exhibiting significant modality discrepancy. To align the feature spaces of the two modalities, i.e., camera silhouettes and LiDAR points, we propose a contrastive pre-training strategy to mitigate modality discrepancy. To make up for the absence of paired camera-LiDAR data for pre-training, we also introduce a strategy for generating data on a large scale. This strategy utilizes monocular depth estimated from single RGB images and virtual cameras to generate pseudo point clouds for contrastive pre-training. Extensive experiments show that the cross-modality gait recognition is very challenging but still contains potential and feasibility with our proposed model and pre-training strategy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to address cross-modality gait recognition.

Fixed-length Dense Descriptor for Efficient Fingerprint MatchingZhiyu Pan, Yongjie Duan, Jianjiang Feng et al.
In fingerprint matching, fixed-length descriptors generally offer greater efficiency compared to minutiae set, but the recognition accuracy is not as good as that of the latter. Although much progress has been made in deep learning based fixed-length descriptors recently, they often fall short when dealing with incomplete or partial fingerprints, diverse fingerprint poses, and significant background noise. In this paper, we propose a three-dimensional representation called Fixed-length Dense Descriptor (FDD) for efficient fingerprint matching. FDD features great spatial properties, enabling it to capture the spatial relationships of the original fingerprints, thereby enhancing interpretability and robustness. Our experiments on various fingerprint datasets reveal that FDD outperforms other fixed-length descriptors, especially in matching fingerprints of different areas, cross-modal fingerprint matching, and fingerprint matching with background noise.

Identity-Consistent Multi-Pose Generation of Contactless FingerprintsZhiyu Pan, Xiongjun Guan, Jianjiang Feng et al.
Contactless fingerprint recognition has gained increasing attention due to its advantages in hygiene and acquisition flexibility. However, the absence of physical contact constraints introduces severe nonlinear geometric distortions caused by free finger poses in 3D space, resulting in a substantial cross-modal domain gap between contactless and conventional contact-based fingerprints. Existing solutions largely rely on explicit geometric correction or image enhancement, which are fragile under extreme pose variations. In this paper, we propose Identity-Consistent Multi-Pose Generation of Contactless Fingerprints (IMPOSE), a physics-inspired framework that synthesizes identity-preserving, multi-pose contactless fingerprint samples to empower recognition models. IMPOSE consists of three stages: (1) rolled fingerprint identity generation via latent diffusion with discrete codebook representations, (2) cross-modal translation from rolled to contactless modality guided by Sauvola-based local adaptive binarization as an identity anchor, and (3) physics-based multi-pose simulation through 3D finger model texture mapping and projection. The generated samples maintain strict identity consistency at the ridge topology level and spatial alignment with standard fingerprint coordinate space. Extensive experiments on the UWA and PolyU CL2CB databases demonstrate that fine-tuning fixed-length dense descriptors (FDD) with IMPOSE-synthesized data achieves state-of-the-art cross-modal matching, reducing EER to 8.74% on UWA and 2.26% on PolyU CL2CB. Synthetic data also yields consistent gains across mainstream representations including DeepPrint and AFRNet, and the hybrid strategy combining synthetic and real data achieves the best overall results. Semi-Supervised Class-Agnostic Motion Prediction with Pseudo Label Regeneration and BEVMixKewei Wang, Yizheng Wu, Zhiyu Pan et al.
Class-agnostic motion prediction methods aim to comprehend motion within open-world scenarios, holding significance for autonomous driving systems. However, training a high-performance model in a fully-supervised manner always requires substantial amounts of manually annotated data, which can be both expensive and time-consuming to obtain. To address this challenge, our study explores the potential of semi-supervised learning (SSL) for class-agnostic motion prediction. Our SSL framework adopts a consistency-based self-training paradigm, enabling the model to learn from unlabeled data by generating pseudo labels through test-time inference. To improve the quality of pseudo labels, we propose a novel motion selection and re-generation module. This module effectively selects reliable pseudo labels and re-generates unreliable ones. Furthermore, we propose two data augmentation strategies: temporal sampling and BEVMix. These strategies facilitate consistency regularization in SSL. Experiments conducted on nuScenes demonstrate that our SSL method can surpass the self-supervised approach by a large margin by utilizing only a tiny fraction of labeled data. Furthermore, our method exhibits comparable performance to weakly and some fully supervised methods. Geometry-aware Reconstruction and Fusion-refined Rendering for Generalizable Neural Radiance FieldsTianqi Liu, Xinyi Ye, Min Shi et al.
Generalizable NeRF aims to synthesize novel views for unseen scenes. Common practices involve constructing variance-based cost volumes for geometry reconstruction and encoding 3D descriptors for decoding novel views. However, existing methods show limited generalization ability in challenging conditions due to inaccurate geometry, sub-optimal descriptors, and decoding strategies. We address these issues point by point. First, we find the variance-based cost volume exhibits failure patterns as the features of pixels corresponding to the same point can be inconsistent across different views due to occlusions or reflections. We introduce an Adaptive Cost Aggregation (ACA) approach to amplify the contribution of consistent pixel pairs and suppress inconsistent ones. Unlike previous methods that solely fuse 2D features into descriptors, our approach introduces a Spatial-View Aggregator (SVA) to incorporate 3D context into descriptors through spatial and inter-view interaction. When decoding the descriptors, we observe the two existing decoding strategies excel in different areas, which are complementary. A Consistency-Aware Fusion (CAF) strategy is proposed to leverage the advantages of both. We incorporate the above ACA, SVA, and CAF into a coarse-to-fine framework, termed Geometry-aware Reconstruction and Fusion-refined Rendering (GeFu). OmniVideoBench: Towards Audio-Visual Understanding Evaluation for Omni MLLMsCaorui Li, Yu Chen, Yiyan Ji et al. · pku
Recent advances in multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have demonstrated substantial potential in video understanding. However, existing benchmarks fail to comprehensively evaluate synergistic reasoning capabilities across audio and visual modalities, often neglecting either one of the modalities or integrating them in a logically inconsistent manner. To bridge this gap, we introduce OmniVideoBench, a large-scale and rigorously designed benchmark dedicated to assessing synergistic audio-visual understanding, with a strong emphasis on modality complementarity and logical consistency. Specifically, OmniVideoBench comprises 1000 high-quality question-answer(QA) pairs, each annotated with step-by-step reasoning traces, derived from 628 diverse videos ranging from several seconds to 30 minutes, and manually verified to guarantee complete correctness and uniqueness. Moreover, OmniVideoBench encompasses 13 carefully designed question types, covering temporal reasoning, spatial localization, counting, causal inference, summarization, and beyond, thereby capturing the essential challenges of video understanding. Evaluation of multiple MLLMs on OmniVideoBench reveals a pronounced gap between model performance and human reasoning, with open-source models lagging significantly behind their closed-source counterparts, underscoring the inherent difficulty of genuine audio-visual reasoning. We will release OmniVideoBench to foster the development of MLLMs with stronger and more generalizable reasoning capabilities.

MT-Video-Bench: A Holistic Video Understanding Benchmark for Evaluating Multimodal LLMs in Multi-Turn DialoguesYaning Pan, Zekun Wang, Qianqian Xie et al.
The recent development of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) has significantly advanced AI's ability to understand visual modalities. However, existing evaluation benchmarks remain limited to single-turn question answering, overlooking the complexity of multi-turn dialogues in real-world scenarios. To bridge this gap, we introduce MT-Video-Bench, a holistic video understanding benchmark for evaluating MLLMs in multi-turn dialogues. Specifically, our MT-Video-Bench mainly assesses six core competencies that focus on perceptivity and interactivity, encompassing 987 meticulously curated multi-turn dialogues from diverse domains. These capabilities are rigorously aligned with real-world applications, such as interactive sports analysis and multi-turn video-based intelligent tutoring. With MT-Video-Bench, we extensively evaluate various state-of-the-art open-source and closed-source MLLMs, revealing their significant performance discrepancies and limitations in handling multi-turn video dialogues. The benchmark will be publicly available to foster future research.

Exploring Contextual Attribute Density in Referring Expression CountingZhicheng Wang, Zhiyu Pan, Zhan Peng et al.
Referring expression counting (REC) algorithms are for more flexible and interactive counting ability across varied fine-grained text expressions. However, the requirement for fine-grained attribute understanding poses challenges for prior arts, as they struggle to accurately align attribute information with correct visual patterns. Given the proven importance of ''visual density'', it is presumed that the limitations of current REC approaches stem from an under-exploration of ''contextual attribute density'' (CAD). In the scope of REC, we define CAD as the measure of the information intensity of one certain fine-grained attribute in visual regions. To model the CAD, we propose a U-shape CAD estimator in which referring expression and multi-scale visual features from GroundingDINO can interact with each other. With additional density supervision, we can effectively encode CAD, which is subsequently decoded via a novel attention procedure with CAD-refined queries. Integrating all these contributions, our framework significantly outperforms state-of-the-art REC methods, achieves $30\%$ error reduction in counting metrics and a $10\%$ improvement in localization accuracy. Fixed-Length Dense Fingerprint RepresentationZhiyu Pan, Xiongjun Guan, Yongjie Duan et al.
Fixed-length fingerprint representations, which map each fingerprint to a compact and fixed-size feature vector, are computationally efficient and well-suited for large-scale matching. However, designing a robust representation that effectively handles diverse fingerprint modalities, pose variations, and noise interference remains a significant challenge. In this work, we propose a fixed-length dense descriptor of fingerprints, and introduce FLARE-a fingerprint matching framework that integrates the Fixed-Length dense descriptor with pose-based Alignment and Robust Enhancement. This fixed-length representation employs a three-dimensional dense descriptor to effectively capture spatial relationships among fingerprint ridge structures, enabling robust and locally discriminative representations. To ensure consistency within this dense feature space, FLARE incorporates pose-based alignment using complementary estimation methods, along with dual enhancement strategies that refine ridge clarity while preserving the original fingerprint modality. The proposed dense descriptor supports fixed-length representation while maintaining spatial correspondence, enabling fast and accurate similarity computation. Extensive experiments demonstrate that FLARE achieves superior performance across rolled, plain, latent, and contactless fingerprints, significantly outperforming existing methods in cross-modality and low-quality scenarios. Further analysis validates the effectiveness of the dense descriptor design, as well as the impact of alignment and enhancement modules on the accuracy of dense descriptor matching. Experimental results highlight the effectiveness and generalizability of FLARE as a unified and scalable solution for robust fingerprint representation and matching. Finger Pose Estimation for Under-screen Fingerprint SensorXiongjun Guan, Zhiyu Pan, Jianjiang Feng et al.
Two-dimensional pose estimation plays a crucial role in fingerprint recognition by facilitating global alignment and reduce pose-induced variations. However, existing methods are still unsatisfactory when handling with large angle or small area inputs. These limitations are particularly pronounced on fingerprints captured by under-screen fingerprint sensors in smartphones. In this paper, we present a novel dual-modal input based network for under-screen fingerprint pose estimation. Our approach effectively integrates two distinct yet complementary modalities: texture details extracted from ridge patches through the under-screen fingerprint sensor, and rough contours derived from capacitive images obtained via the touch screen. This collaborative integration endows our network with more comprehensive and discriminative information, substantially improving the accuracy and stability of pose estimation. A decoupled probability distribution prediction task is designed, instead of the traditional supervised forms of numerical regression or heatmap voting, to facilitate the training process. Additionally, we incorporate a Mixture of Experts (MoE) based feature fusion mechanism and a relationship driven cross-domain knowledge transfer strategy to further strengthen feature extraction and fusion capabilities. Extensive experiments are conducted on several public datasets and two private datasets. The results indicate that our method is significantly superior to previous state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods and remarkably boosts the recognition ability of fingerprint recognition algorithms. HumanReg: Self-supervised Non-rigid Registration of Human Point CloudYifan Chen, Zhiyu Pan, Zhicheng Zhong et al.
In this paper, we present a novel registration framework, HumanReg, that learns a non-rigid transformation between two human point clouds end-to-end. We introduce body prior into the registration process to efficiently handle this type of point cloud. Unlike most exsisting supervised registration techniques that require expensive point-wise flow annotations, HumanReg can be trained in a self-supervised manner benefiting from a set of novel loss functions. To make our model better converge on real-world data, we also propose a pretraining strategy, and a synthetic dataset (HumanSyn4D) consists of dynamic, sparse human point clouds and their auto-generated ground truth annotations. Our experiments shows that HumanReg achieves state-of-the-art performance on CAPE-512 dataset and gains a qualitative result on another more challenging real-world dataset. Furthermore, our ablation studies demonstrate the effectiveness of our synthetic dataset and novel loss functions. Pseudo-Labeling by Multi-Policy Viewfinder Network for Image CroppingZhiyu Pan, Kewei Wang, Yizheng Wu et al.
Automatic image cropping models predict reframing boxes to enhance image aesthetics. Yet, the scarcity of labeled data hinders the progress of this task. To overcome this limitation, we explore the possibility of utilizing both labeled and unlabeled data together to expand the scale of training data for image cropping models. This idea can be implemented in a pseudo-labeling way: producing pseudo labels for unlabeled data by a teacher model and training a student model with these pseudo labels. However, the student may learn from teacher's mistakes. To address this issue, we propose the multi-policy viewfinder network (MPV-Net) that offers diverse refining policies to rectify the mistakes in original pseudo labels from the teacher. The most reliable policy is selected to generate trusted pseudo labels. The reliability of policies is evaluated via the robustness against box jittering. The efficacy of our method can be evaluated by the improvement compared to the supervised baseline which only uses labeled data. Notably, our MPV-Net outperforms off-the-shelf pseudo-labeling methods, yielding the most substantial improvement over the supervised baseline. Furthermore, our approach achieves state-of-the-art results on both the FCDB and FLMS datasets, signifying the superiority of our approach.

BiFingerPose: Bimodal Finger Pose Estimation for Touch DevicesXiongjun Guan, Zhiyu Pan, Jianjiang Feng et al.
Finger pose offers promising opportunities to expand human computer interaction capability of touchscreen devices. Existing finger pose estimation algorithms that can be implemented in portable devices predominantly rely on capacitive images, which are currently limited to estimating pitch and yaw angles and exhibit reduced accuracy when processing large-angle inputs (especially when it is greater than 45 degrees). In this paper, we propose BiFingerPose, a novel bimodal based finger pose estimation algorithm capable of simultaneously and accurately predicting comprehensive finger pose information. A bimodal input is explored, including a capacitive image and a fingerprint patch obtained from the touchscreen with an under-screen fingerprint sensor. Our approach leads to reliable estimation of roll angle, which is not achievable using only a single modality. In addition, the prediction performance of other pose parameters has also been greatly improved. The evaluation of a 12-person user study on continuous and discrete interaction tasks further validated the advantages of our approach. Specifically, BiFingerPose outperforms previous SOTA methods with over 21% improvement in prediction performance, 2.5 times higher task completion efficiency, and 23% better user operation accuracy, demonstrating its practical superiority. Finally, we delineate the application space of finger pose with respect to enhancing authentication security and improving interactive experiences, and develop corresponding prototypes to showcase the interaction potential. Minutiae-Anchored Local Dense Representation for Fingerprint MatchingZhiyu Pan, Xiongjun Guan, Yongjie Duan et al.
Fingerprint matching under diverse capture conditions remains a fundamental challenge in biometric recognition. To achieve robust and accurate performance in such scenarios, we propose DMD, a minutiae-anchored local dense representation which captures both fine-grained ridge textures and discriminative minutiae features in a spatially structured manner. Specifically, descriptors are extracted from local patches centered and oriented on each detected minutia, forming a three-dimensional tensor, where two dimensions represent spatial locations on the fingerprint plane and the third encodes semantic features. This representation explicitly captures abstract features of local image patches, enabling a multi-level, fine-grained description that aggregates information from multiple minutiae and their surrounding ridge structures. Furthermore, thanks to its strong spatial correspondence with the patch image, DMD allows for the use of foreground segmentation masks to identify valid descriptor regions. During matching, comparisons are then restricted to overlapping foreground areas, improving efficiency and robustness. Extensive experiments on rolled, plain, parital, contactless, and latent fingerprint datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and generalizability of the proposed method. It achieves state-of-the-art accuracy across multiple benchmarks while maintaining high computational efficiency, showing strong potential for large-scale fingerprint recognition. Instance Consistency Regularization for Semi-Supervised 3D Instance SegmentationYizheng Wu, Zhiyu Pan, Kewei Wang et al.
Large-scale datasets with point-wise semantic and instance labels are crucial to 3D instance segmentation but also expensive. To leverage unlabeled data, previous semi-supervised 3D instance segmentation approaches have explored self-training frameworks, which rely on high-quality pseudo labels for consistency regularization. They intuitively utilize both instance and semantic pseudo labels in a joint learning manner. However, semantic pseudo labels contain numerous noise derived from the imbalanced category distribution and natural confusion of similar but distinct categories, which leads to severe collapses in self-training. Motivated by the observation that 3D instances are non-overlapping and spatially separable, we ask whether we can solely rely on instance consistency regularization for improved semi-supervised segmentation. To this end, we propose a novel self-training network InsTeacher3D to explore and exploit pure instance knowledge from unlabeled data. We first build a parallel base 3D instance segmentation model DKNet, which distinguishes each instance from the others via discriminative instance kernels without reliance on semantic segmentation. Based on DKNet, we further design a novel instance consistency regularization framework to generate and leverage high-quality instance pseudo labels. Experimental results on multiple large-scale datasets show that the InsTeacher3D significantly outperforms prior state-of-the-art semi-supervised approaches. Camera-based person re-identification (ReID) systems have been widely applied in the field of public security. However, cameras often lack the perception of 3D morphological information of human and are susceptible to various limitations, such as inadequate illumination, complex background, and personal privacy. In this paper, we propose a LiDAR-based ReID framework, ReID3D, that utilizes pre-training strategy to retrieve features of 3D body shape and introduces Graph-based Complementary Enhancement Encoder for extracting comprehensive features. Due to the lack of LiDAR datasets, we build LReID, the first LiDAR-based person ReID dataset, which is collected in several outdoor scenes with variations in natural conditions. Additionally, we introduce LReID-sync, a simulated pedestrian dataset designed for pre-training encoders with tasks of point cloud completion and shape parameter learning. Extensive experiments on LReID show that ReID3D achieves exceptional performance with a rank-1 accuracy of 94.0, highlighting the significant potential of LiDAR in addressing person ReID tasks. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to propose a solution for LiDAR-based ReID. The code and datasets will be released soon.

Latent Fingerprint Matching via Dense Minutia DescriptorZhiyu Pan, Yongjie Duan, Xiongjun Guan et al.
Latent fingerprint matching is a daunting task, primarily due to the poor quality of latent fingerprints. In this study, we propose a deep-learning based dense minutia descriptor (DMD) for latent fingerprint matching. A DMD is obtained by extracting the fingerprint patch aligned by its central minutia, capturing detailed minutia information and texture information. Our dense descriptor takes the form of a three-dimensional representation, with two dimensions associated with the original image plane and the other dimension representing the abstract features. Additionally, the extraction process outputs the fingerprint segmentation map, ensuring that the descriptor is only valid in the foreground region. The matching between two descriptors occurs in their overlapping regions, with a score normalization strategy to reduce the impact brought by the differences outside the valid area. Our descriptor achieves state-of-the-art performance on several latent fingerprint datasets. Overall, our DMD is more representative and interpretable compared to previous methods.

Joint Identity Verification and Pose Alignment for Partial FingerprintsXiongjun Guan, Zhiyu Pan, Jianjiang Feng et al.
Currently, portable electronic devices are becoming more and more popular. For lightweight considerations, their fingerprint recognition modules usually use limited-size sensors. However, partial fingerprints have few matchable features, especially when there are differences in finger pressing posture or image quality, which makes partial fingerprint verification challenging. Most existing methods regard fingerprint position rectification and identity verification as independent tasks, ignoring the coupling relationship between them -- relative pose estimation typically relies on paired features as anchors, and authentication accuracy tends to improve with more precise pose alignment. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for joint identity verification and pose alignment of partial fingerprint pairs, aiming to leverage their inherent correlation to improve each other. To achieve this, we present a multi-task CNN (Convolutional Neural Network)-Transformer hybrid network, and design a pre-training task to enhance the feature extraction capability. Experiments on multiple public datasets (NIST SD14, FVC2002 DB1A & DB3A, FVC2004 DB1A & DB2A, FVC2006 DB1A) and an in-house dataset show that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance in both partial fingerprint verification and relative pose estimation, while being more efficient than previous methods.

Sports Analysis and VR Viewing System Based on Player Tracking and Pose Estimation with Multimodal and Multiview SensorsWenxuan Guo, Zhiyu Pan, Ziheng Xi et al.
Sports analysis and viewing play a pivotal role in the current sports domain, offering significant value not only to coaches and athletes but also to fans and the media. In recent years, the rapid development of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies have introduced a new platform for watching games. Visualization of sports competitions in VR/AR represents a revolutionary technology, providing audiences with a novel immersive viewing experience. However, there is still a lack of related research in this area. In this work, we present for the first time a comprehensive system for sports competition analysis and real-time visualization on VR/AR platforms. First, we utilize multiview LiDARs and cameras to collect multimodal game data. Subsequently, we propose a framework for multi-player tracking and pose estimation based on a limited amount of supervised data, which extracts precise player positions and movements from point clouds and images. Moreover, we perform avatar modeling of players to obtain their 3D models. Ultimately, using these 3D player data, we conduct competition analysis and real-time visualization on VR/AR. Extensive quantitative experiments demonstrate the accuracy and robustness of our multi-player tracking and pose estimation framework. The visualization results showcase the immense potential of our sports visualization system on the domain of watching games on VR/AR devices. The multimodal competition dataset we collected and all related code will be released soon.

Self-Supervised Class-Agnostic Motion Prediction with Spatial and Temporal Consistency RegularizationsKewei Wang, Yizheng Wu, Jun Cen et al.
The perception of motion behavior in a dynamic environment holds significant importance for autonomous driving systems, wherein class-agnostic motion prediction methods directly predict the motion of the entire point cloud. While most existing methods rely on fully-supervised learning, the manual labeling of point cloud data is laborious and time-consuming. Therefore, several annotation-efficient methods have been proposed to address this challenge. Although effective, these methods rely on weak annotations or additional multi-modal data like images, and the potential benefits inherent in the point cloud sequence are still underexplored. To this end, we explore the feasibility of self-supervised motion prediction with only unlabeled LiDAR point clouds. Initially, we employ an optimal transport solver to establish coarse correspondences between current and future point clouds as the coarse pseudo motion labels. Training models directly using such coarse labels leads to noticeable spatial and temporal prediction inconsistencies. To mitigate these issues, we introduce three simple spatial and temporal regularization losses, which facilitate the self-supervised training process effectively. Experimental results demonstrate the significant superiority of our approach over the state-of-the-art self-supervised methods.

LiCamPose: Combining Multi-View LiDAR and RGB Cameras for Robust Single-frame 3D Human Pose EstimationZhiyu Pan, Zhicheng Zhong, Wenxuan Guo et al.
Several methods have been proposed to estimate 3D human pose from multi-view images, achieving satisfactory performance on public datasets collected under relatively simple conditions. However, there are limited approaches studying extracting 3D human skeletons from multimodal inputs, such as RGB and point cloud data. To address this gap, we introduce LiCamPose, a pipeline that integrates multi-view RGB and sparse point cloud information to estimate robust 3D human poses via single frame. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the volumetric architecture in combining these modalities. Furthermore, to circumvent the need for manually labeled 3D human pose annotations, we develop a synthetic dataset generator for pretraining and design an unsupervised domain adaptation strategy to train a 3D human pose estimator without manual annotations. To validate the generalization capability of our method, LiCamPose is evaluated on four datasets, including two public datasets, one synthetic dataset, and one challenging self-collected dataset named BasketBall, covering diverse scenarios. The results demonstrate that LiCamPose exhibits great generalization performance and significant application potential. Semi-Supervised High Dynamic Range Image Reconstructing via Bi-Level Uncertain Area MaskingWei Jiang, Jiahao Cui, Yizheng Wu et al.
Reconstructing high dynamic range (HDR) images from low dynamic range (LDR) bursts plays an essential role in the computational photography. Impressive progress has been achieved by learning-based algorithms which require LDR-HDR image pairs. However, these pairs are hard to obtain, which motivates researchers to delve into the problem of annotation-efficient HDR image reconstructing: how to achieve comparable performance with limited HDR ground truths (GTs). This work attempts to address this problem from the view of semi-supervised learning where a teacher model generates pseudo HDR GTs for the LDR samples without GTs and a student model learns from pseudo GTs. Nevertheless, the confirmation bias, i.e., the student may learn from the artifacts in pseudo HDR GTs, presents an impediment. To remove this impediment, an uncertainty-based masking process is proposed to discard unreliable parts of pseudo GTs at both pixel and patch levels, then the trusted areas can be learned from by the student. With this novel masking process, our semi-supervised HDR reconstructing method not only outperforms previous annotation-efficient algorithms, but also achieves comparable performance with up-to-date fully-supervised methods by using only 6.7% HDR GTs.
