Efficient Long-Range Attention Network for Image Super-resolutionXindong Zhang, Hui Zeng, Shi Guo et al.
Recently, transformer-based methods have demonstrated impressive results in various vision tasks, including image super-resolution (SR), by exploiting the self-attention (SA) for feature extraction. However, the computation of SA in most existing transformer based models is very expensive, while some employed operations may be redundant for the SR task. This limits the range of SA computation and consequently the SR performance. In this work, we propose an efficient long-range attention network (ELAN) for image SR. Specifically, we first employ shift convolution (shift-conv) to effectively extract the image local structural information while maintaining the same level of complexity as 1x1 convolution, then propose a group-wise multi-scale self-attention (GMSA) module, which calculates SA on non-overlapped groups of features using different window sizes to exploit the long-range image dependency. A highly efficient long-range attention block (ELAB) is then built by simply cascading two shift-conv with a GMSA module, which is further accelerated by using a shared attention mechanism. Without bells and whistles, our ELAN follows a fairly simple design by sequentially cascading the ELABs. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ELAN obtains even better results against the transformer-based SR models but with significantly less complexity. A Differentiable Two-stage Alignment Scheme for Burst Image Reconstruction with Large ShiftShi Guo, Xi Yang, Jianqi Ma et al.
Denoising and demosaicking are two essential steps to reconstruct a clean full-color image from the raw data. Recently, joint denoising and demosaicking (JDD) for burst images, namely JDD-B, has attracted much attention by using multiple raw images captured in a short time to reconstruct a single high-quality image. One key challenge of JDD-B lies in the robust alignment of image frames. State-of-the-art alignment methods in feature domain cannot effectively utilize the temporal information of burst images, where large shifts commonly exist due to camera and object motion. In addition, the higher resolution (e.g., 4K) of modern imaging devices results in larger displacement between frames. To address these challenges, we design a differentiable two-stage alignment scheme sequentially in patch and pixel level for effective JDD-B. The input burst images are firstly aligned in the patch level by using a differentiable progressive block matching method, which can estimate the offset between distant frames with small computational cost. Then we perform implicit pixel-wise alignment in full-resolution feature domain to refine the alignment results. The two stages are jointly trained in an end-to-end manner. Spatial-Frequency Attention for Image DenoisingShi Guo, Hongwei Yong, Xindong Zhang et al.
The recently developed transformer networks have achieved impressive performance in image denoising by exploiting the self-attention (SA) in images. However, the existing methods mostly use a relatively small window to compute SA due to the quadratic complexity of it, which limits the model's ability to model long-term image information. In this paper, we propose the spatial-frequency attention network (SFANet) to enhance the network's ability in exploiting long-range dependency. For spatial attention module (SAM), we adopt dilated SA to model long-range dependency. In the frequency attention module (FAM), we exploit more global information by using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) by designing a window-based frequency channel attention (WFCA) block to effectively model deep frequency features and their dependencies. To make our module applicable to images of different sizes and keep the model consistency between training and inference, we apply window-based FFT with a set of fixed window sizes. In addition, channel attention is computed on both real and imaginary parts of the Fourier spectrum, which further improves restoration performance. The proposed WFCA block can effectively model image long-range dependency with acceptable complexity. Experiments on multiple denoising benchmarks demonstrate the leading performance of SFANet network.

TMP: Temporal Motion Propagation for Online Video Super-ResolutionZhengqiang Zhang, Ruihuang Li, Shi Guo et al.
Online video super-resolution (online-VSR) highly relies on an effective alignment module to aggregate temporal information, while the strict latency requirement makes accurate and efficient alignment very challenging. Though much progress has been achieved, most of the existing online-VSR methods estimate the motion fields of each frame separately to perform alignment, which is computationally redundant and ignores the fact that the motion fields of adjacent frames are correlated. In this work, we propose an efficient Temporal Motion Propagation (TMP) method, which leverages the continuity of motion field to achieve fast pixel-level alignment among consecutive frames. Specifically, we first propagate the offsets from previous frames to the current frame, and then refine them in the neighborhood, which significantly reduces the matching space and speeds up the offset estimation process. Furthermore, to enhance the robustness of alignment, we perform spatial-wise weighting on the warped features, where the positions with more precise offsets are assigned higher importance. Experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate that the proposed TMP method achieves leading online-VSR accuracy as well as inference speed. EGVD: Event-Guided Video Diffusion Model for Physically Realistic Large-Motion Frame InterpolationZiran Zhang, Xiaohui Li, Yihao Liu et al.
Video frame interpolation (VFI) in scenarios with large motion remains challenging due to motion ambiguity between frames. While event cameras can capture high temporal resolution motion information, existing event-based VFI methods struggle with limited training data and complex motion patterns. In this paper, we introduce Event-Guided Video Diffusion Model (EGVD), a novel framework that leverages the powerful priors of pre-trained stable video diffusion models alongside the precise temporal information from event cameras. Our approach features a Multi-modal Motion Condition Generator (MMCG) that effectively integrates RGB frames and event signals to guide the diffusion process, producing physically realistic intermediate frames. We employ a selective fine-tuning strategy that preserves spatial modeling capabilities while efficiently incorporating event-guided temporal information. We incorporate input-output normalization techniques inspired by recent advances in diffusion modeling to enhance training stability across varying noise levels. To improve generalization, we construct a comprehensive dataset combining both real and simulated event data across diverse scenarios. Extensive experiments on both real and simulated datasets demonstrate that EGVD significantly outperforms existing methods in handling large motion and challenging lighting conditions, achieving substantial improvements in perceptual quality metrics (27.4% better LPIPS on Prophesee and 24.1% on BSRGB) while maintaining competitive fidelity measures. Toward Accurate and Temporally Consistent Video Restoration from Raw DataShi Guo, Jianqi Ma, Xi Yang et al.
Denoising and demosaicking are two fundamental steps in reconstructing a clean full-color video from raw data, while performing video denoising and demosaicking jointly, namely VJDD, could lead to better video restoration performance than performing them separately. In addition to restoration accuracy, another key challenge to VJDD lies in the temporal consistency of consecutive frames. This issue exacerbates when perceptual regularization terms are introduced to enhance video perceptual quality. To address these challenges, we present a new VJDD framework by consistent and accurate latent space propagation, which leverages the estimation of previous frames as prior knowledge to ensure consistent recovery of the current frame. A data temporal consistency (DTC) loss and a relational perception consistency (RPC) loss are accordingly designed. Compared with the commonly used flow-based losses, the proposed losses can circumvent the error accumulation problem caused by inaccurate flow estimation and effectively handle intensity changes in videos, improving much the temporal consistency of output videos while preserving texture details. Extensive experiments demonstrate the leading VJDD performance of our method in term of restoration accuracy, perceptual quality and temporal consistency. Toward Convolutional Blind Denoising of Real PhotographsShi Guo, Zifei Yan, Kai Zhang et al.
While deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have achieved impressive success in image denoising with additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), their performance remains limited on real-world noisy photographs. The main reason is that their learned models are easy to overfit on the simplified AWGN model which deviates severely from the complicated real-world noise model. In order to improve the generalization ability of deep CNN denoisers, we suggest training a convolutional blind denoising network (CBDNet) with more realistic noise model and real-world noisy-clean image pairs. On the one hand, both signal-dependent noise and in-camera signal processing pipeline is considered to synthesize realistic noisy images. On the other hand, real-world noisy photographs and their nearly noise-free counterparts are also included to train our CBDNet. To further provide an interactive strategy to rectify denoising result conveniently, a noise estimation subnetwork with asymmetric learning to suppress under-estimation of noise level is embedded into CBDNet. Extensive experimental results on three datasets of real-world noisy photographs clearly demonstrate the superior performance of CBDNet over state-of-the-arts in terms of quantitative metrics and visual quality. AsyncEvGS: Asynchronous Event-Assisted Gaussian Splatting for Handheld Motion-Blurred ScenesJun Dai, Renbiao Jin, Bo Xu et al.
3D reconstruction methods such as 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) and Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) achieve impressive photorealism but fail when input images suffer from severe motion blur. While event cameras provide high-temporal-resolution motion cues, existing event-assisted approaches rely on low-resolution sensors and strict synchronization, limiting their practicality for handheld 3D capture on common devices, such as smartphones. We introduce a flexible, high-resolution asynchronous RGB-Event dual-camera system and a corresponding reconstruction framework. Our approach first reconstructs sharp images from the event data and then employs a cross-domain pose estimation module based on the Visual Geometry Transformer (VGGT) to obtain robust initialization for 3DGS. During optimization, we employ a structure-driven event loss and view-specific consistency regularizers to mitigate the ill-posed behavior of traditional event losses and deblurring losses, ensuring both stable and high-fidelity reconstruction. We further contribute AsyncEv-Deblur, a new high-resolution RGB-Event dataset captured with our asynchronous system. Experiments demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on both our challenging dataset and existing benchmarks, substantially improving reconstruction robustness under severe motion blur. AnyRecon: Arbitrary-View 3D Reconstruction with Video Diffusion ModelYutian Chen, Shi Guo, Renbiao Jin et al.
Sparse-view 3D reconstruction is essential for modeling scenes from casual captures, but remain challenging for non-generative reconstruction. Existing diffusion-based approaches mitigates this issues by synthesizing novel views, but they often condition on only one or two capture frames, which restricts geometric consistency and limits scalability to large or diverse scenes. We propose AnyRecon, a scalable framework for reconstruction from arbitrary and unordered sparse inputs that preserves explicit geometric control while supporting flexible conditioning cardinality. To support long-range conditioning, our method constructs a persistent global scene memory via a prepended capture view cache, and removes temporal compression to maintain frame-level correspondence under large viewpoint changes. Beyond better generative model, we also find that the interplay between generation and reconstruction is crucial for large-scale 3D scenes. Thus, we introduce a geometry-aware conditioning strategy that couples generation and reconstruction through an explicit 3D geometric memory and geometry-driven capture-view retrieval. To ensure efficiency, we combine 4-step diffusion distillation with context-window sparse attention to reduce quadratic complexity. Extensive experiments demonstrate robust and scalable reconstruction across irregular inputs, large viewpoint gaps, and long trajectories.

UltraFusion: Ultra High Dynamic Imaging using Exposure FusionZixuan Chen, Yujin Wang, Xin Cai et al.
Capturing high dynamic range (HDR) scenes is one of the most important issues in camera design. Majority of cameras use exposure fusion, which fuses images captured by different exposure levels, to increase dynamic range. However, this approach can only handle images with limited exposure difference, normally 3-4 stops. When applying to very high dynamic range scenes where a large exposure difference is required, this approach often fails due to incorrect alignment or inconsistent lighting between inputs, or tone mapping artifacts. In this work, we propose \model, the first exposure fusion technique that can merge inputs with 9 stops differences. The key idea is that we model exposure fusion as a guided inpainting problem, where the under-exposed image is used as a guidance to fill the missing information of over-exposed highlights in the over-exposed region. Using an under-exposed image as a soft guidance, instead of a hard constraint, our model is robust to potential alignment issue or lighting variations. Moreover, by utilizing the image prior of the generative model, our model also generates natural tone mapping, even for very high-dynamic range scenes. Our approach outperforms HDR-Transformer on latest HDR benchmarks. Moreover, to test its performance in ultra high dynamic range scenes, we capture a new real-world exposure fusion benchmark, UltraFusion dataset, with exposure differences up to 9 stops, and experiments show that UltraFusion can generate beautiful and high-quality fusion results under various scenarios. Detecting and magnifying imperceptible high-frequency motions in real-world scenarios has substantial implications for industrial and medical applications. These motions are characterized by small amplitudes and high frequencies. Traditional motion magnification methods rely on costly high-speed cameras or active light sources, which limit the scope of their applications. In this work, we propose a dual-camera system consisting of an event camera and a conventional RGB camera for video motion magnification, providing temporally-dense information from the event stream and spatially-dense data from the RGB images. This innovative combination enables a broad and cost-effective amplification of high-frequency motions. By revisiting the physical camera model, we observe that estimating motion direction and magnitude necessitates the integration of event streams with additional image features. On this basis, we propose a novel deep network tailored for event-based motion magnification. Our approach utilizes the Second-order Recurrent Propagation module to proficiently interpolate multiple frames while addressing artifacts and distortions induced by magnified motions. Additionally, we employ a temporal filter to distinguish between noise and useful signals, thus minimizing the impact of noise. We also introduced the first event-based motion magnification dataset, which includes a synthetic subset and a real-captured subset for training and benchmarking. Through extensive experiments in magnifying small-amplitude, high-frequency motions, we demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of our dual-camera system and network, offering a cost-effective and flexible solution for motion detection and magnification.

4DSloMo: 4D Reconstruction for High Speed Scene with Asynchronous CaptureYutian Chen, Shi Guo, Tianshuo Yang et al.
Reconstructing fast-dynamic scenes from multi-view videos is crucial for high-speed motion analysis and realistic 4D reconstruction. However, the majority of 4D capture systems are limited to frame rates below 30 FPS (frames per second), and a direct 4D reconstruction of high-speed motion from low FPS input may lead to undesirable results. In this work, we propose a high-speed 4D capturing system only using low FPS cameras, through novel capturing and processing modules. On the capturing side, we propose an asynchronous capture scheme that increases the effective frame rate by staggering the start times of cameras. By grouping cameras and leveraging a base frame rate of 25 FPS, our method achieves an equivalent frame rate of 100-200 FPS without requiring specialized high-speed cameras. On processing side, we also propose a novel generative model to fix artifacts caused by 4D sparse-view reconstruction, as asynchrony reduces the number of viewpoints at each timestamp. Specifically, we propose to train a video-diffusion-based artifact-fix model for sparse 4D reconstruction, which refines missing details, maintains temporal consistency, and improves overall reconstruction quality. Experimental results demonstrate that our method significantly enhances high-speed 4D reconstruction compared to synchronous capture.

EvMic: Event-based Non-contact sound recovery from effective spatial-temporal modelingHao Yin, Shi Guo, Xu Jia et al.
When sound waves hit an object, they induce vibrations that produce high-frequency and subtle visual changes, which can be used for recovering the sound. Early studies always encounter trade-offs related to sampling rate, bandwidth, field of view, and the simplicity of the optical path. Recent advances in event camera hardware show good potential for its application in visual sound recovery, because of its superior ability in capturing high-frequency signals. However, existing event-based vibration recovery methods are still sub-optimal for sound recovery. In this work, we propose a novel pipeline for non-contact sound recovery, fully utilizing spatial-temporal information from the event stream. We first generate a large training set using a novel simulation pipeline. Then we designed a network that leverages the sparsity of events to capture spatial information and uses Mamba to model long-term temporal information. Lastly, we train a spatial aggregation block to aggregate information from different locations to further improve signal quality. To capture event signals caused by sound waves, we also designed an imaging system using a laser matrix to enhance the gradient and collected multiple data sequences for testing. Experimental results on synthetic and real-world data demonstrate the effectiveness of our method.

Event-assisted 12-stop HDR Imaging of Dynamic SceneShi Guo, Zixuan Chen, Ziran Zhang et al.
High dynamic range (HDR) imaging is a crucial task in computational photography, which captures details across diverse lighting conditions. Traditional HDR fusion methods face limitations in dynamic scenes with extreme exposure differences, as aligning low dynamic range (LDR) frames becomes challenging due to motion and brightness variation. In this work, we propose a novel 12-stop HDR imaging approach for dynamic scenes, leveraging a dual-camera system with an event camera and an RGB camera. The event camera provides temporally dense, high dynamic range signals that improve alignment between LDR frames with large exposure differences, reducing ghosting artifacts caused by motion. Also, a real-world finetuning strategy is proposed to increase the generalization of alignment module on real-world events. Additionally, we introduce a diffusion-based fusion module that incorporates image priors from pre-trained diffusion models to address artifacts in high-contrast regions and minimize errors from the alignment process. To support this work, we developed the ESHDR dataset, the first dataset for 12-stop HDR imaging with synchronized event signals, and validated our approach on both simulated and real-world data. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance, successfully extending HDR imaging to 12 stops in dynamic scenes.

FlashVSR: Towards Real-Time Diffusion-Based Streaming Video Super-ResolutionJunhao Zhuang, Shi Guo, Xin Cai et al.
Diffusion models have recently advanced video restoration, but applying them to real-world video super-resolution (VSR) remains challenging due to high latency, prohibitive computation, and poor generalization to ultra-high resolutions. Our goal in this work is to make diffusion-based VSR practical by achieving efficiency, scalability, and real-time performance. To this end, we propose FlashVSR, the first diffusion-based one-step streaming framework towards real-time VSR. FlashVSR runs at approximately 17 FPS for 768x1408 videos on a single A100 GPU by combining three complementary innovations: (i) a train-friendly three-stage distillation pipeline that enables streaming super-resolution, (ii) locality-constrained sparse attention that cuts redundant computation while bridging the train-test resolution gap, and (iii) a tiny conditional decoder that accelerates reconstruction without sacrificing quality. To support large-scale training, we also construct VSR-120K, a new dataset with 120k videos and 180k images. Extensive experiments show that FlashVSR scales reliably to ultra-high resolutions and achieves state-of-the-art performance with up to 12x speedup over prior one-step diffusion VSR models. We will release the code, pretrained models, and dataset to foster future research in efficient diffusion-based VSR.

From Sim-to-Real: Toward General Event-based Low-light Frame Interpolation with Per-scene OptimizationZiran Zhang, Yongrui Ma, Yueting Chen et al.
Video Frame Interpolation (VFI) is important for video enhancement, frame rate up-conversion, and slow-motion generation. The introduction of event cameras, which capture per-pixel brightness changes asynchronously, has significantly enhanced VFI capabilities, particularly for high-speed, nonlinear motions. However, these event-based methods encounter challenges in low-light conditions, notably trailing artifacts and signal latency, which hinder their direct applicability and generalization. Addressing these issues, we propose a novel per-scene optimization strategy tailored for low-light conditions. This approach utilizes the internal statistics of a sequence to handle degraded event data under low-light conditions, improving the generalizability to different lighting and camera settings. To evaluate its robustness in low-light condition, we further introduce EVFI-LL, a unique RGB+Event dataset captured under low-light conditions. Image-Adaptive YOLO for Object Detection in Adverse Weather ConditionsWenyu Liu, Gaofeng Ren, Runsheng Yu et al.
Though deep learning-based object detection methods have achieved promising results on the conventional datasets, it is still challenging to locate objects from the low-quality images captured in adverse weather conditions. The existing methods either have difficulties in balancing the tasks of image enhancement and object detection, or often ignore the latent information beneficial for detection. To alleviate this problem, we propose a novel Image-Adaptive YOLO (IA-YOLO) framework, where each image can be adaptively enhanced for better detection performance. Specifically, a differentiable image processing (DIP) module is presented to take into account the adverse weather conditions for YOLO detector, whose parameters are predicted by a small convolutional neural net-work (CNN-PP). We learn CNN-PP and YOLOv3 jointly in an end-to-end fashion, which ensures that CNN-PP can learn an appropriate DIP to enhance the image for detection in a weakly supervised manner. Our proposed IA-YOLO approach can adaptively process images in both normal and adverse weather conditions. The experimental results are very encouraging, demonstrating the effectiveness of our proposed IA-YOLO method in both foggy and low-light scenarios.

Text Prior Guided Scene Text Image Super-resolutionJianqi Ma, Shi Guo, Lei Zhang
Scene text image super-resolution (STISR) aims to improve the resolution and visual quality of low-resolution (LR) scene text images, and consequently boost the performance of text recognition. However, most of existing STISR methods regard text images as natural scene images, ignoring the categorical information of text. In this paper, we make an inspiring attempt to embed categorical text prior into STISR model training. Specifically, we adopt the character probability sequence as the text prior, which can be obtained conveniently from a text recognition model. The text prior provides categorical guidance to recover high-resolution (HR) text images. On the other hand, the reconstructed HR image can refine the text prior in return. Finally, we present a multi-stage text prior guided super-resolution (TPGSR) framework for STISR. Our experiments on the benchmark TextZoom dataset show that TPGSR can not only effectively improve the visual quality of scene text images, but also significantly improve the text recognition accuracy over existing STISR methods. Our model trained on TextZoom also demonstrates certain generalization capability to the LR images in other datasets.

HDR Video Reconstruction: A Coarse-to-fine Network and A Real-world Benchmark DatasetGuanying Chen, Chaofeng Chen, Shi Guo et al.
High dynamic range (HDR) video reconstruction from sequences captured with alternating exposures is a very challenging problem. Existing methods often align low dynamic range (LDR) input sequence in the image space using optical flow, and then merge the aligned images to produce HDR output. However, accurate alignment and fusion in the image space are difficult due to the missing details in the over-exposed regions and noise in the under-exposed regions, resulting in unpleasing ghosting artifacts. To enable more accurate alignment and HDR fusion, we introduce a coarse-to-fine deep learning framework for HDR video reconstruction. Firstly, we perform coarse alignment and pixel blending in the image space to estimate the coarse HDR video. Secondly, we conduct more sophisticated alignment and temporal fusion in the feature space of the coarse HDR video to produce better reconstruction. Considering the fact that there is no publicly available dataset for quantitative and comprehensive evaluation of HDR video reconstruction methods, we collect such a benchmark dataset, which contains $97$ sequences of static scenes and 184 testing pairs of dynamic scenes. Extensive experiments show that our method outperforms previous state-of-the-art methods. Our dataset, code and model will be made publicly available.

Joint Denoising and Demosaicking with Green Channel Prior for Real-world Burst ImagesShi Guo, Zhetong Liang, Lei Zhang
Denoising and demosaicking are essential yet correlated steps to reconstruct a full color image from the raw color filter array (CFA) data. By learning a deep convolutional neural network (CNN), significant progress has been achieved to perform denoising and demosaicking jointly. However, most existing CNN-based joint denoising and demosaicking (JDD) methods work on a single image while assuming additive white Gaussian noise, which limits their performance on real-world applications. In this work, we study the JDD problem for real-world burst images, namely JDD-B. Considering the fact that the green channel has twice the sampling rate and better quality than the red and blue channels in CFA raw data, we propose to use this green channel prior (GCP) to build a GCP-Net for the JDD-B task. In GCP-Net, the GCP features extracted from green channels are utilized to guide the feature extraction and feature upsampling of the whole image. To compensate for the shift between frames, the offset is also estimated from GCP features to reduce the impact of noise. Our GCP-Net can preserve more image structures and details than other JDD methods while removing noise. Experiments on synthetic and real-world noisy images demonstrate the effectiveness of GCP-Net quantitatively and qualitatively.
