Harmonizing Pathological and Normal Pixels for Pseudo-healthy SynthesisYunlong Zhang, Xin Lin, Yihong Zhuang et al.
Synthesizing a subject-specific pathology-free image from a pathological image is valuable for algorithm development and clinical practice. In recent years, several approaches based on the Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) have achieved promising results in pseudo-healthy synthesis. However, the discriminator (i.e., a classifier) in the GAN cannot accurately identify lesions and further hampers from generating admirable pseudo-healthy images. To address this problem, we present a new type of discriminator, the segmentor, to accurately locate the lesions and improve the visual quality of pseudo-healthy images. Then, we apply the generated images into medical image enhancement and utilize the enhanced results to cope with the low contrast problem existing in medical image segmentation. Furthermore, a reliable metric is proposed by utilizing two attributes of label noise to measure the health of synthetic images. Comprehensive experiments on the T2 modality of BraTS demonstrate that the proposed method substantially outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. The method achieves better performance than the existing methods with only 30\% of the training data. The effectiveness of the proposed method is also demonstrated on the LiTS and the T1 modality of BraTS. Restore Anything with Masks: Leveraging Mask Image Modeling for Blind All-in-One Image RestorationChu-Jie Qin, Rui-Qi Wu, Zikun Liu et al.
All-in-one image restoration aims to handle multiple degradation types using one model. This paper proposes a simple pipeline for all-in-one blind image restoration to Restore Anything with Masks (RAM). We focus on the image content by utilizing Mask Image Modeling to extract intrinsic image information rather than distinguishing degradation types like other methods. Our pipeline consists of two stages: masked image pre-training and fine-tuning with mask attribute conductance. We design a straightforward masking pre-training approach specifically tailored for all-in-one image restoration. This approach enhances networks to prioritize the extraction of image content priors from various degradations, resulting in a more balanced performance across different restoration tasks and achieving stronger overall results. To bridge the gap of input integrity while preserving learned image priors as much as possible, we selectively fine-tuned a small portion of the layers. Specifically, the importance of each layer is ranked by the proposed Mask Attribute Conductance (MAC), and the layers with higher contributions are selected for finetuning. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance. Our code and model will be released at \href{https://github.com/Dragonisss/RAM}{https://github.com/Dragonisss/RAM}.
Shifting More Attention to Visual Backbone: Query-modulated Refinement Networks for End-to-End Visual GroundingJiabo Ye, Junfeng Tian, Ming Yan et al.
Visual grounding focuses on establishing fine-grained alignment between vision and natural language, which has essential applications in multimodal reasoning systems. Existing methods use pre-trained query-agnostic visual backbones to extract visual feature maps independently without considering the query information. We argue that the visual features extracted from the visual backbones and the features really needed for multimodal reasoning are inconsistent. One reason is that there are differences between pre-training tasks and visual grounding. Moreover, since the backbones are query-agnostic, it is difficult to completely avoid the inconsistency issue by training the visual backbone end-to-end in the visual grounding framework. In this paper, we propose a Query-modulated Refinement Network (QRNet) to address the inconsistent issue by adjusting intermediate features in the visual backbone with a novel Query-aware Dynamic Attention (QD-ATT) mechanism and query-aware multiscale fusion. The QD-ATT can dynamically compute query-dependent visual attention at the spatial and channel levels of the feature maps produced by the visual backbone. We apply the QRNet to an end-to-end visual grounding framework. Extensive experiments show that the proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art methods on five widely used datasets.
Re-boosting Self-Collaboration Parallel Prompt GAN for Unsupervised Image RestorationXin Lin, Yuyan Zhou, Jingtong Yue et al.
Unsupervised restoration approaches based on generative adversarial networks (GANs) offer a promising solution without requiring paired datasets. Yet, these GAN-based approaches struggle to surpass the performance of conventional unsupervised GAN-based frameworks without significantly modifying model structures or increasing the computational complexity. To address these issues, we propose a self-collaboration (SC) strategy for existing restoration models. This strategy utilizes information from the previous stage as feedback to guide subsequent stages, achieving significant performance improvement without increasing the framework's inference complexity. The SC strategy comprises a prompt learning (PL) module and a restorer ($Res$). It iteratively replaces the previous less powerful fixed restorer $\overline{Res}$ in the PL module with a more powerful $Res$. The enhanced PL module generates better pseudo-degraded/clean image pairs, leading to a more powerful $Res$ for the next iteration. Our SC can significantly improve the $Res$'s performance by over 1.5 dB without adding extra parameters or computational complexity during inference. Meanwhile, existing self-ensemble (SE) and our SC strategies enhance the performance of pre-trained restorers from different perspectives. As SE increases computational complexity during inference, we propose a re-boosting module to the SC (Reb-SC) to improve the SC strategy further by incorporating SE into SC without increasing inference time. This approach further enhances the restorer's performance by approximately 0.3 dB. Extensive experimental results on restoration tasks demonstrate that the proposed model performs favorably against existing state-of-the-art unsupervised restoration methods. Evolutionary Multiparty Distance MinimizationZeneng She, Wenjian Luo, Xin Lin et al.
In the field of evolutionary multiobjective optimization, the decision maker (DM) concerns conflicting objectives. In the real-world applications, there usually exist more than one DM and each DM concerns parts of these objectives. Multiparty multiobjective optimization problems (MPMOPs) are proposed to depict the MOP with multiple decision makers involved, where each party concerns about certain some objectives of all. However, in the evolutionary computation field, there is not much attention paid on MPMOPs. This paper constructs a series of MPMOPs based on distance minimization problems (DMPs), whose Pareto optimal solutions can be vividly visualized. To address MPMOPs, the new proposed algorithm OptMPNDS3 uses the multiparty initializing method to initialize the population and takes JADE2 operator to generate the offsprings. OptMPNDS3 is compared with OptAll, OptMPNDS and OptMPNDS2 on the problem suite. The result shows that OptMPNDS3 is strongly comparable to other algorithms
