Edit-DiffNeRF: Editing 3D Neural Radiance Fields using 2D Diffusion Model

Lu Yu, Wei Xiang, Kang Han

Recent research has demonstrated that the combination of pretrained diffusion models with neural radiance fields (NeRFs) has emerged as a promising approach for text-to-3D generation. Simply coupling NeRF with diffusion models will result in cross-view inconsistency and degradation of stylized view syntheses. To address this challenge, we propose the Edit-DiffNeRF framework, which is composed of a frozen diffusion model, a proposed delta module to edit the latent semantic space of the diffusion model, and a NeRF. Instead of training the entire diffusion for each scene, our method focuses on editing the latent semantic space in frozen pretrained diffusion models by the delta module. This fundamental change to the standard diffusion framework enables us to make fine-grained modifications to the rendered views and effectively consolidate these instructions in a 3D scene via NeRF training. As a result, we are able to produce an edited 3D scene that faithfully aligns to input text instructions. Furthermore, to ensure semantic consistency across different viewpoints, we propose a novel multi-view semantic consistency loss that extracts a latent semantic embedding from the input view as a prior, and aim to reconstruct it in different views. Our proposed method has been shown to effectively edit real-world 3D scenes, resulting in 25% improvement in the alignment of the performed 3D edits with text instructions compared to prior work.

GSCodec Studio: A Modular Framework for Gaussian Splat Compression

Sicheng Li, Chengzhen Wu, Hao Li et al.

3D Gaussian Splatting and its extension to 4D dynamic scenes enable photorealistic, real-time rendering from real-world captures, positioning Gaussian Splats (GS) as a promising format for next-generation immersive media. However, their high storage requirements pose significant challenges for practical use in sharing, transmission, and storage. Despite various studies exploring GS compression from different perspectives, these efforts remain scattered across separate repositories, complicating benchmarking and the integration of best practices. To address this gap, we present GSCodec Studio, a unified and modular framework for GS reconstruction, compression, and rendering. The framework incorporates a diverse set of 3D/4D GS reconstruction methods and GS compression techniques as modular components, facilitating flexible combinations and comprehensive comparisons. By integrating best practices from community research and our own explorations, GSCodec Studio supports the development of compact representation and compression solutions for static and dynamic Gaussian Splats, namely our Static and Dynamic GSCodec, achieving competitive rate-distortion performance in static and dynamic GS compression. The code for our framework is publicly available at https://github.com/JasonLSC/GSCodec_Studio , to advance the research on Gaussian Splats compression.

GPT-based Textile Pilling Classification Using 3D Point Cloud Data

Yu Lu, YuYu Chen, Gang Zhou et al.

Textile pilling assessment is critical for textile quality control. We collect thousands of 3D point cloud images in the actual test environment of textiles and organize and label them as TextileNet8 dataset. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first publicly available eight-categories 3D point cloud dataset in the field of textile pilling assessment. Based on PointGPT, the GPT-like big model of point cloud analysis, we incorporate the global features of the input point cloud extracted from the non-parametric network into it, thus proposing the PointGPT+NN model. Using TextileNet8 as a benchmark, the experimental results show that the proposed PointGPT+NN model achieves an overall accuracy (OA) of 91.8% and a mean per-class accuracy (mAcc) of 92.2%. Test results on other publicly available datasets also validate the competitive performance of the proposed PointGPT+NN model. The proposed TextileNet8 dataset will be publicly available.

Towards Multi-dimensional Explanation Alignment for Medical Classification

Lijie Hu, Songning Lai, Wenshuo Chen et al.

The lack of interpretability in the field of medical image analysis has significant ethical and legal implications. Existing interpretable methods in this domain encounter several challenges, including dependency on specific models, difficulties in understanding and visualization, as well as issues related to efficiency. To address these limitations, we propose a novel framework called Med-MICN (Medical Multi-dimensional Interpretable Concept Network). Med-MICN provides interpretability alignment for various angles, including neural symbolic reasoning, concept semantics, and saliency maps, which are superior to current interpretable methods. Its advantages include high prediction accuracy, interpretability across multiple dimensions, and automation through an end-to-end concept labeling process that reduces the need for extensive human training effort when working with new datasets. To demonstrate the effectiveness and interpretability of Med-MICN, we apply it to four benchmark datasets and compare it with baselines. The results clearly demonstrate the superior performance and interpretability of our Med-MICN.

GIFStream: 4D Gaussian-based Immersive Video with Feature Stream

Hao Li, Sicheng Li, Xiang Gao et al.

Immersive video offers a 6-Dof-free viewing experience, potentially playing a key role in future video technology. Recently, 4D Gaussian Splatting has gained attention as an effective approach for immersive video due to its high rendering efficiency and quality, though maintaining quality with manageable storage remains challenging. To address this, we introduce GIFStream, a novel 4D Gaussian representation using a canonical space and a deformation field enhanced with time-dependent feature streams. These feature streams enable complex motion modeling and allow efficient compression by leveraging temporal correspondence and motion-aware pruning. Additionally, we incorporate both temporal and spatial compression networks for end-to-end compression. Experimental results show that GIFStream delivers high-quality immersive video at 30 Mbps, with real-time rendering and fast decoding on an RTX 4090. Spectral Clustering with Variance Information for Group Structure Estimation in Panel Data

Lu Yu, Jiaying Gu, Stanislav Volgushev

Consider a panel data setting where repeated observations on individuals are available. Often it is reasonable to assume that there exist groups of individuals that share similar effects of observed characteristics, but the grouping is typically unknown in advance. We first conduct a local analysis which reveals that the variances of the individual coefficient estimates contain useful information for the estimation of group structure. We then propose a method to estimate unobserved groupings for general panel data models that explicitly account for the variance information. Our proposed method remains computationally feasible with a large number of individuals and/or repeated measurements on each individual. The developed ideas can also be applied even when individual-level data are not available and only parameter estimates together with some quantification of estimation uncertainty are given to the researcher. A thorough simulation study demonstrates superior performance of our method than existing methods and we apply the method to two empirical applications.

Compressing Facial Makeup Transfer Networks by Collaborative Distillation and Kernel Decomposition

Bianjiang Yang, Zi Hui, Haoji Hu et al.

Although the facial makeup transfer network has achieved high-quality performance in generating perceptually pleasing makeup images, its capability is still restricted by the massive computation and storage of the network architecture. We address this issue by compressing facial makeup transfer networks with collaborative distillation and kernel decomposition. The main idea of collaborative distillation is underpinned by a finding that the encoder-decoder pairs construct an exclusive collaborative relationship, which is regarded as a new kind of knowledge for low-level vision tasks. For kernel decomposition, we apply the depth-wise separation of convolutional kernels to build a light-weighted Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) from the original network. Extensive experiments show the effectiveness of the compression method when applied to the state-of-the-art facial makeup transfer network -- BeautyGAN.

Object Instance Mining for Weakly Supervised Object Detection

Chenhao Lin, Siwen Wang, Dongqi Xu et al.

Weakly supervised object detection (WSOD) using only image-level annotations has attracted growing attention over the past few years. Existing approaches using multiple instance learning easily fall into local optima, because such mechanism tends to learn from the most discriminative object in an image for each category. Therefore, these methods suffer from missing object instances which degrade the performance of WSOD. To address this problem, this paper introduces an end-to-end object instance mining (OIM) framework for weakly supervised object detection. OIM attempts to detect all possible object instances existing in each image by introducing information propagation on the spatial and appearance graphs, without any additional annotations. During the iterative learning process, the less discriminative object instances from the same class can be gradually detected and utilized for training. In addition, we design an object instance reweighted loss to learn larger portion of each object instance to further improve the performance. The experimental results on two publicly available databases, VOC 2007 and 2012, demonstrate the efficacy of proposed approach.

Three Dimensional Convolutional Neural Network Pruning with Regularization-Based Method

Yuxin Zhang, Huan Wang, Yang Luo et al.

Despite enjoying extensive applications in video analysis, three-dimensional convolutional neural networks (3D CNNs)are restricted by their massive computation and storage consumption. To solve this problem, we propose a threedimensional regularization-based neural network pruning method to assign different regularization parameters to different weight groups based on their importance to the network. Further we analyze the redundancy and computation cost for each layer to determine the different pruning ratios. Experiments show that pruning based on our method can lead to 2x theoretical speedup with only 0.41% accuracy loss for 3DResNet18 and 3.28% accuracy loss for C3D. The proposed method performs favorably against other popular methods for model compression and acceleration.
