AgentBench: Evaluating LLMs as AgentsXiao Liu, Hao Yu, Hanchen Zhang et al. · berkeley, microsoft-research
The potential of Large Language Model (LLM) as agents has been widely acknowledged recently. Thus, there is an urgent need to quantitatively \textit{evaluate LLMs as agents} on challenging tasks in interactive environments. We present AgentBench, a multi-dimensional benchmark that consists of 8 distinct environments to assess LLM-as-Agent's reasoning and decision-making abilities. Our extensive test over \num API-based and open-sourced (OSS) LLMs shows that, while top commercial LLMs present a strong ability of acting as agents in complex environments, there is a significant disparity in performance between them and many OSS competitors that are no larger than 70B. We identify the typical reasons of failures in environments and LLMs, showing that poor long-term reasoning, decision-making, and instruction following abilities are the main obstacles for developing usable LLM agents. Improving instruction following and training on high quality multi-round alignment data could improve agent performance. And different from existing assumptions, training on code present ambivalent impacts on different agent tasks. WebGLM: Towards An Efficient Web-Enhanced Question Answering System with Human PreferencesXiao Liu, Hanyu Lai, Hao Yu et al. · tsinghua
We present WebGLM, a web-enhanced question-answering system based on the General Language Model (GLM). Its goal is to augment a pre-trained large language model (LLM) with web search and retrieval capabilities while being efficient for real-world deployments. To achieve this, we develop WebGLM with strategies for the LLM-augmented retriever, bootstrapped generator, and human preference-aware scorer. Specifically, we identify and address the limitations of WebGPT (OpenAI), through which WebGLM is enabled with accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness advantages. In addition, we propose systematic criteria for evaluating web-enhanced QA systems. We conduct multi-dimensional human evaluation and quantitative ablation studies, which suggest the outperformance of the proposed WebGLM designs over existing systems. WebGLM with the 10-billion-parameter GLM (10B) is shown to perform better than the similar-sized WebGPT (13B) and even comparably to WebGPT (175B) in human evaluation. VisualAgentBench: Towards Large Multimodal Models as Visual Foundation AgentsXiao Liu, Tianjie Zhang, Yu Gu et al. · cmu, microsoft-research
Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) have ushered in a new era in artificial intelligence, merging capabilities in both language and vision to form highly capable Visual Foundation Agents. These agents are postulated to excel across a myriad of tasks, potentially approaching general artificial intelligence. However, existing benchmarks fail to sufficiently challenge or showcase the full potential of LMMs in complex, real-world environments. To address this gap, we introduce VisualAgentBench (VAB), a comprehensive and pioneering benchmark specifically designed to train and evaluate LMMs as visual foundation agents across diverse scenarios, including Embodied, Graphical User Interface, and Visual Design, with tasks formulated to probe the depth of LMMs' understanding and interaction capabilities. Through rigorous testing across nine proprietary LMM APIs and eight open models, we demonstrate the considerable yet still developing agent capabilities of these models. Additionally, VAB constructs a trajectory training set constructed through hybrid methods including Program-based Solvers, LMM Agent Bootstrapping, and Human Demonstrations, promoting substantial performance improvements in LMMs through behavior cloning. Our work not only aims to benchmark existing models but also provides a solid foundation for future development into visual foundation agents. GeoTransformer: Fast and Robust Point Cloud Registration with Geometric TransformerZheng Qin, Hao Yu, Changjian Wang et al.
We study the problem of extracting accurate correspondences for point cloud registration. Recent keypoint-free methods have shown great potential through bypassing the detection of repeatable keypoints which is difficult to do especially in low-overlap scenarios. They seek correspondences over downsampled superpoints, which are then propagated to dense points. Superpoints are matched based on whether their neighboring patches overlap. Such sparse and loose matching requires contextual features capturing the geometric structure of the point clouds. We propose Geometric Transformer, or GeoTransformer for short, to learn geometric feature for robust superpoint matching. It encodes pair-wise distances and triplet-wise angles, making it invariant to rigid transformation and robust in low-overlap cases. The simplistic design attains surprisingly high matching accuracy such that no RANSAC is required in the estimation of alignment transformation, leading to $100$ times acceleration. Extensive experiments on rich benchmarks encompassing indoor, outdoor, synthetic, multiway and non-rigid demonstrate the efficacy of GeoTransformer. Notably, our method improves the inlier ratio by $18{\sim}31$ percentage points and the registration recall by over $7$ points on the challenging 3DLoMatch benchmark. TMac: Temporal Multi-Modal Graph Learning for Acoustic Event ClassificationMeng Liu, Ke Liang, Dayu Hu et al.
Audiovisual data is everywhere in this digital age, which raises higher requirements for the deep learning models developed on them. To well handle the information of the multi-modal data is the key to a better audiovisual modal. We observe that these audiovisual data naturally have temporal attributes, such as the time information for each frame in the video. More concretely, such data is inherently multi-modal according to both audio and visual cues, which proceed in a strict chronological order. It indicates that temporal information is important in multi-modal acoustic event modeling for both intra- and inter-modal. However, existing methods deal with each modal feature independently and simply fuse them together, which neglects the mining of temporal relation and thus leads to sub-optimal performance. With this motivation, we propose a Temporal Multi-modal graph learning method for Acoustic event Classification, called TMac, by modeling such temporal information via graph learning techniques. In particular, we construct a temporal graph for each acoustic event, dividing its audio data and video data into multiple segments. Each segment can be considered as a node, and the temporal relationships between nodes can be considered as timestamps on their edges. In this case, we can smoothly capture the dynamic information in intra-modal and inter-modal. Several experiments are conducted to demonstrate TMac outperforms other SOTA models in performance. AfriqueLLM: How Data Mixing and Model Architecture Impact Continued Pre-training for African LanguagesHao Yu, Tianyi Xu, Michael A. Hedderich et al.
Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly multilingual, yet open models continue to underperform relative to proprietary systems, with the gap most pronounced for African languages. Continued pre-training (CPT) offers a practical route to language adaptation, but improvements on demanding capabilities such as mathematical reasoning often remain limited. This limitation is driven in part by the uneven domain coverage and missing task-relevant knowledge that characterize many low-resource language corpora. We present \texttt{AfriqueLLM}, a suite of open LLMs adapted to 20 African languages through CPT on 26B tokens. We perform a comprehensive empirical study across five base models spanning sizes and architectures, including Llama 3.1, Gemma 3, and Qwen 3, and systematically analyze how CPT data composition shapes downstream performance. In particular, we vary mixtures that include math, code, and synthetic translated data, and evaluate the resulting models on a range of multilingual benchmarks. Our results identify data composition as the primary driver of CPT gains. Adding math, code, and synthetic translated data yields consistent improvements, including on reasoning-oriented evaluations. Within a fixed architecture, larger models typically improve performance, but architectural choices dominate scale when comparing across model families. Moreover, strong multilingual performance in the base model does not reliably predict post-CPT outcomes; robust architectures coupled with task-aligned data provide a more dependable recipe. Where, What, Why, and Importance: Structured Defect Grounding for Text-to-Image FeedbackHuaisong Zhang, Hao Yu, Yuxuan Zhang et al.
Despite generating increasingly photorealistic images, text-to-image (T2I) models still exhibit localized, subtle, and structurally complex failures. Diagnosing these failures requires instance-level feedback that answers where a defect occurs, what type it is, why it is defective, and its importance to overall image quality. While recent dense-feedback methods move beyond scalar supervision, their heatmap-centric representations still formulate diagnosis as pixel-field regression, making it difficult to localize variable-cardinality defects and bind semantic reasons to individual failures. To address this representation bottleneck, we propose Structured Defect Grounding (SDG), which casts T2I diagnosis as structured set prediction by modeling each defect as a (location, type, reason, importance) tuple. To make this formulation trainable and measurable, we introduce SDG-30K, a 30K-image dataset with box-grounded annotations across four modern T2I generators, together with a dedicated evaluation protocol, SDG-Eval. Building on this structured representation, we further present a diagnosis-to-alignment framework in which a Vision-Language Model (VLM) serves as the SDG detector, and BoxFlow-GRPO converts predicted defect sets into box-derived, importance-weighted spatial rewards for diffusion model alignment. Extensive experiments show that our SDG detector outperforms leading proprietary VLMs on structured defect grounding, while SDG-guided rewards consistently improve T2I alignment and support localized image refinement. These results establish SDG as a unified, instance-level interface for diagnosing, evaluating, and enhancing modern generative models.

Open, Closed, or Small Language Models for Text Classification?Hao Yu, Zachary Yang, Kellin Pelrine et al.
Recent advancements in large language models have demonstrated remarkable capabilities across various NLP tasks. But many questions remain, including whether open-source models match closed ones, why these models excel or struggle with certain tasks, and what types of practical procedures can improve performance. We address these questions in the context of classification by evaluating three classes of models using eight datasets across three distinct tasks: named entity recognition, political party prediction, and misinformation detection. While larger LLMs often lead to improved performance, open-source models can rival their closed-source counterparts by fine-tuning. Moreover, supervised smaller models, like RoBERTa, can achieve similar or even greater performance in many datasets compared to generative LLMs. On the other hand, closed models maintain an advantage in hard tasks that demand the most generalizability. Deep Graph-based Spatial Consistency for Robust Non-rigid Point Cloud RegistrationZheng Qin, Hao Yu, Changjian Wang et al.
We study the problem of outlier correspondence pruning for non-rigid point cloud registration. In rigid registration, spatial consistency has been a commonly used criterion to discriminate outliers from inliers. It measures the compatibility of two correspondences by the discrepancy between the respective distances in two point clouds. However, spatial consistency no longer holds in non-rigid cases and outlier rejection for non-rigid registration has not been well studied. In this work, we propose Graph-based Spatial Consistency Network (GraphSCNet) to filter outliers for non-rigid registration. Our method is based on the fact that non-rigid deformations are usually locally rigid, or local shape preserving. We first design a local spatial consistency measure over the deformation graph of the point cloud, which evaluates the spatial compatibility only between the correspondences in the vicinity of a graph node. An attention-based non-rigid correspondence embedding module is then devised to learn a robust representation of non-rigid correspondences from local spatial consistency. Despite its simplicity, GraphSCNet effectively improves the quality of the putative correspondences and attains state-of-the-art performance on three challenging benchmarks. LLM-Barber: Block-Aware Rebuilder for Sparsity Mask in One-Shot for Large Language ModelsYupeng Su, Ziyi Guan, Xiaoqun Liu et al.
Large language models (LLMs) have seen substantial growth, necessitating efficient model pruning techniques. Existing post-training pruning methods primarily measure weight importance in converged dense models, often overlooking changes in weight significance during the pruning process, leading to performance degradation. To address this issue, we present LLM-Barber (Block-Aware Rebuilder for Sparsity Mask in One-Shot), a novel one-shot pruning framework that rebuilds the sparsity mask of pruned models without any retraining or weight reconstruction. LLM-Barber incorporates block-aware error optimization across Self-Attention and MLP blocks, facilitating global performance optimization. We are the first to employ the product of weights and gradients as a pruning metric in the context of LLM post-training pruning. This enables accurate identification of weight importance in massive models and significantly reduces computational complexity compared to methods using secondorder information. Our experiments show that LLM-Barber efficiently prunes models from LLaMA and OPT families (7B to 13B) on a single A100 GPU in just 30 minutes, achieving state-of-the-art results in both perplexity and zero-shot performance across various language benchmarks. Rotation-Invariant Transformer for Point Cloud MatchingHao Yu, Zheng Qin, Ji Hou et al.
The intrinsic rotation invariance lies at the core of matching point clouds with handcrafted descriptors. However, it is widely despised by recent deep matchers that obtain the rotation invariance extrinsically via data augmentation. As the finite number of augmented rotations can never span the continuous SO(3) space, these methods usually show instability when facing rotations that are rarely seen. To this end, we introduce RoITr, a Rotation-Invariant Transformer to cope with the pose variations in the point cloud matching task. We contribute both on the local and global levels. Starting from the local level, we introduce an attention mechanism embedded with Point Pair Feature (PPF)-based coordinates to describe the pose-invariant geometry, upon which a novel attention-based encoder-decoder architecture is constructed. We further propose a global transformer with rotation-invariant cross-frame spatial awareness learned by the self-attention mechanism, which significantly improves the feature distinctiveness and makes the model robust with respect to the low overlap. Experiments are conducted on both the rigid and non-rigid public benchmarks, where RoITr outperforms all the state-of-the-art models by a considerable margin in the low-overlapping scenarios. Especially when the rotations are enlarged on the challenging 3DLoMatch benchmark, RoITr surpasses the existing methods by at least 13 and 5 percentage points in terms of Inlier Ratio and Registration Recall, respectively.

NeRF-Pose: A First-Reconstruct-Then-Regress Approach for Weakly-supervised 6D Object Pose EstimationFu Li, Hao Yu, Ivan Shugurov et al.
Pose estimation of 3D objects in monocular images is a fundamental and long-standing problem in computer vision. Existing deep learning approaches for 6D pose estimation typically rely on the assumption of availability of 3D object models and 6D pose annotations. However, precise annotation of 6D poses in real data is intricate, time-consuming and not scalable, while synthetic data scales well but lacks realism. To avoid these problems, we present a weakly-supervised reconstruction-based pipeline, named NeRF-Pose, which needs only 2D object segmentation and known relative camera poses during training. Following the first-reconstruct-then-regress idea, we first reconstruct the objects from multiple views in the form of an implicit neural representation. Then, we train a pose regression network to predict pixel-wise 2D-3D correspondences between images and the reconstructed model. At inference, the approach only needs a single image as input. A NeRF-enabled PnP+RANSAC algorithm is used to estimate stable and accurate pose from the predicted correspondences. Experiments on LineMod and LineMod-Occlusion show that the proposed method has state-of-the-art accuracy in comparison to the best 6D pose estimation methods in spite of being trained only with weak labels. Besides, we extend the Homebrewed DB dataset with more real training images to support the weakly supervised task and achieve compelling results on this dataset. RIGA: Rotation-Invariant and Globally-Aware Descriptors for Point Cloud RegistrationHao Yu, Ji Hou, Zheng Qin et al.
Successful point cloud registration relies on accurate correspondences established upon powerful descriptors. However, existing neural descriptors either leverage a rotation-variant backbone whose performance declines under large rotations, or encode local geometry that is less distinctive. To address this issue, we introduce RIGA to learn descriptors that are Rotation-Invariant by design and Globally-Aware. From the Point Pair Features (PPFs) of sparse local regions, rotation-invariant local geometry is encoded into geometric descriptors. Global awareness of 3D structures and geometric context is subsequently incorporated, both in a rotation-invariant fashion. More specifically, 3D structures of the whole frame are first represented by our global PPF signatures, from which structural descriptors are learned to help geometric descriptors sense the 3D world beyond local regions. Geometric context from the whole scene is then globally aggregated into descriptors. Finally, the description of sparse regions is interpolated to dense point descriptors, from which correspondences are extracted for registration. To validate our approach, we conduct extensive experiments on both object- and scene-level data. With large rotations, RIGA surpasses the state-of-the-art methods by a margin of 8\degree in terms of the Relative Rotation Error on ModelNet40 and improves the Feature Matching Recall by at least 5 percentage points on 3DLoMatch.

Learning Aided Optimization for Energy Harvesting Devices with Outdated State InformationHao Yu, Michael J. Neely
This paper considers utility optimal power control for energy harvesting wireless devices with a finite capacity battery. The distribution information of the underlying wireless environment and harvestable energy is unknown and only outdated system state information is known at the device controller. This scenario shares similarity with Lyapunov opportunistic optimization and online learning but is different from both. By a novel combination of Zinkevich's online gradient learning technique and the drift-plus-penalty technique from Lyapunov opportunistic optimization, this paper proposes a learning-aided algorithm that achieves utility within $O(ε)$ of the optimal, for any desired $ε>0$, by using a battery with an $O(1/ε)$ capacity. The proposed algorithm has low complexity and makes power investment decisions based on system history, without requiring knowledge of the system state or its probability distribution.

A New Backpressure Algorithm for Joint Rate Control and Routing with Vanishing Utility Optimality Gaps and Finite Queue LengthsHao Yu, Michael J. Neely
The backpressure algorithm has been widely used as a distributed solution to the problem of joint rate control and routing in multi-hop data networks. By controlling a parameter $V$ in the algorithm, the backpressure algorithm can achieve an arbitrarily small utility optimality gap. However, this in turn brings in a large queue length at each node and hence causes large network delay. This phenomenon is known as the fundamental utility-delay tradeoff. The best known utility-delay tradeoff for general networks is $[O(1/V), O(V)]$ and is attained by a backpressure algorithm based on a drift-plus-penalty technique. This may suggest that to achieve an arbitrarily small utility optimality gap, the existing backpressure algorithms necessarily yield an arbitrarily large queue length. However, this paper proposes a new backpressure algorithm that has a vanishing utility optimality gap, so utility converges to exact optimality as the algorithm keeps running, while queue lengths are bounded throughout by a finite constant. The technique uses backpressure and drift concepts with a new method for convex programming.

Contrastive Continual Multi-view Clustering with Filtered Structural FusionXinhang Wan, Jiyuan Liu, Hao Yu et al.
Multi-view clustering thrives in applications where views are collected in advance by extracting consistent and complementary information among views. However, it overlooks scenarios where data views are collected sequentially, i.e., real-time data. Due to privacy issues or memory burden, previous views are not available with time in these situations. Some methods are proposed to handle it but are trapped in a stability-plasticity dilemma. In specific, these methods undergo a catastrophic forgetting of prior knowledge when a new view is attained. Such a catastrophic forgetting problem (CFP) would cause the consistent and complementary information hard to get and affect the clustering performance. To tackle this, we propose a novel method termed Contrastive Continual Multi-view Clustering with Filtered Structural Fusion (CCMVC-FSF). Precisely, considering that data correlations play a vital role in clustering and prior knowledge ought to guide the clustering process of a new view, we develop a data buffer with fixed size to store filtered structural information and utilize it to guide the generation of a robust partition matrix via contrastive learning. Furthermore, we theoretically connect CCMVC-FSF with semi-supervised learning and knowledge distillation. Extensive experiments exhibit the excellence of the proposed method.

PanGu-Coder: Program Synthesis with Function-Level Language ModelingFenia Christopoulou, Gerasimos Lampouras, Milan Gritta et al.
We present PanGu-Coder, a pretrained decoder-only language model adopting the PanGu-Alpha architecture for text-to-code generation, i.e. the synthesis of programming language solutions given a natural language problem description. We train PanGu-Coder using a two-stage strategy: the first stage employs Causal Language Modelling (CLM) to pre-train on raw programming language data, while the second stage uses a combination of Causal Language Modelling and Masked Language Modelling (MLM) training objectives that focus on the downstream task of text-to-code generation and train on loosely curated pairs of natural language program definitions and code functions. Finally, we discuss PanGu-Coder-FT, which is fine-tuned on a combination of competitive programming problems and code with continuous integration tests. We evaluate PanGu-Coder with a focus on whether it generates functionally correct programs and demonstrate that it achieves equivalent or better performance than similarly sized models, such as CodeX, while attending a smaller context window and training on less data.

Dynamic Hyperbolic Attention Network for Fine Hand-object ReconstructionZhiying Leng, Shun-Cheng Wu, Mahdi Saleh et al.
Reconstructing both objects and hands in 3D from a single RGB image is complex. Existing methods rely on manually defined hand-object constraints in Euclidean space, leading to suboptimal feature learning. Compared with Euclidean space, hyperbolic space better preserves the geometric properties of meshes thanks to its exponentially-growing space distance, which amplifies the differences between the features based on similarity. In this work, we propose the first precise hand-object reconstruction method in hyperbolic space, namely Dynamic Hyperbolic Attention Network (DHANet), which leverages intrinsic properties of hyperbolic space to learn representative features. Our method that projects mesh and image features into a unified hyperbolic space includes two modules, ie. dynamic hyperbolic graph convolution and image-attention hyperbolic graph convolution. With these two modules, our method learns mesh features with rich geometry-image multi-modal information and models better hand-object interaction. Our method provides a promising alternative for fine hand-object reconstruction in hyperbolic space. Extensive experiments on three public datasets demonstrate that our method outperforms most state-of-the-art methods.

Multi-Scale Context-Guided Lumbar Spine Disease Identification with Coarse-to-fine Localization and ClassificationZifan Chen, Jie Zhao, Hao Yu et al.
Accurate and efficient lumbar spine disease identification is crucial for clinical diagnosis. However, existing deep learning models with millions of parameters often fail to learn with only hundreds or dozens of medical images. These models also ignore the contextual relationship between adjacent objects, such as between vertebras and intervertebral discs. This work introduces a multi-scale context-guided network with coarse-to-fine localization and classification, named CCF-Net, for lumbar spine disease identification. Specifically, in learning, we divide the localization objective into two parallel tasks, coarse and fine, which are more straightforward and effectively reduce the number of parameters and computational cost. The experimental results show that the coarse-to-fine design presents the potential to achieve high performance with fewer parameters and data requirements. Moreover, the multi-scale context-guided module can significantly improve the performance by 6.45% and 5.51% with ResNet18 and ResNet50, respectively. G$^2$uardFL: Safeguarding Federated Learning Against Backdoor Attacks through Attributed Client Graph ClusteringHao Yu, Chuan Ma, Meng Liu et al.
Federated Learning (FL) offers collaborative model training without data sharing but is vulnerable to backdoor attacks, where poisoned model weights lead to compromised system integrity. Existing countermeasures, primarily based on anomaly detection, are prone to erroneous rejections of normal weights while accepting poisoned ones, largely due to shortcomings in quantifying similarities among client models. Furthermore, other defenses demonstrate effectiveness only when dealing with a limited number of malicious clients, typically fewer than 10%. To alleviate these vulnerabilities, we present G$^2$uardFL, a protective framework that reinterprets the identification of malicious clients as an attributed graph clustering problem, thus safeguarding FL systems. Specifically, this framework employs a client graph clustering approach to identify malicious clients and integrates an adaptive mechanism to amplify the discrepancy between the aggregated model and the poisoned ones, effectively eliminating embedded backdoors. We also conduct a theoretical analysis of convergence to confirm that G$^2$uardFL does not affect the convergence of FL systems. Through empirical evaluation, comparing G$^2$uardFL with cutting-edge defenses, such as FLAME (USENIX Security 2022) [28] and DeepSight (NDSS 2022) [36], against various backdoor attacks including 3DFed (SP 2023) [20], our results demonstrate its significant effectiveness in mitigating backdoor attacks while having a negligible impact on the aggregated model's performance on benign samples (i.e., the primary task performance). For instance, in an FL system with 25% malicious clients, G$^2$uardFL reduces the attack success rate to 10.61%, while maintaining a primary task performance of 73.05% on the CIFAR-10 dataset. This surpasses the performance of the best-performing baseline, which merely achieves a primary task performance of 19.54%.

SWE-bench-java: A GitHub Issue Resolving Benchmark for JavaDaoguang Zan, Zhirong Huang, Ailun Yu et al.
GitHub issue resolving is a critical task in software engineering, recently gaining significant attention in both industry and academia. Within this task, SWE-bench has been released to evaluate issue resolving capabilities of large language models (LLMs), but has so far only focused on Python version. However, supporting more programming languages is also important, as there is a strong demand in industry. As a first step toward multilingual support, we have developed a Java version of SWE-bench, called SWE-bench-java. We have publicly released the dataset, along with the corresponding Docker-based evaluation environment and leaderboard, which will be continuously maintained and updated in the coming months. To verify the reliability of SWE-bench-java, we implement a classic method SWE-agent and test several powerful LLMs on it. As is well known, developing a high-quality multi-lingual benchmark is time-consuming and labor-intensive, so we welcome contributions through pull requests or collaboration to accelerate its iteration and refinement, paving the way for fully automated programming.

Modality Unifying Network for Visible-Infrared Person Re-IdentificationHao Yu, Xu Cheng, Wei Peng et al.
Visible-infrared person re-identification (VI-ReID) is a challenging task due to large cross-modality discrepancies and intra-class variations. Existing methods mainly focus on learning modality-shared representations by embedding different modalities into the same feature space. As a result, the learned feature emphasizes the common patterns across modalities while suppressing modality-specific and identity-aware information that is valuable for Re-ID. To address these issues, we propose a novel Modality Unifying Network (MUN) to explore a robust auxiliary modality for VI-ReID. First, the auxiliary modality is generated by combining the proposed cross-modality learner and intra-modality learner, which can dynamically model the modality-specific and modality-shared representations to alleviate both cross-modality and intra-modality variations. Second, by aligning identity centres across the three modalities, an identity alignment loss function is proposed to discover the discriminative feature representations. Third, a modality alignment loss is introduced to consistently reduce the distribution distance of visible and infrared images by modality prototype modeling. Extensive experiments on multiple public datasets demonstrate that the proposed method surpasses the current state-of-the-art methods by a significant margin.

Task-Specific Context Decoupling for Object DetectionJiayuan Zhuang, Zheng Qin, Hao Yu et al.
Classification and localization are two main sub-tasks in object detection. Nonetheless, these two tasks have inconsistent preferences for feature context, i.e., localization expects more boundary-aware features to accurately regress the bounding box, while more semantic context is preferred for object classification. Exsiting methods usually leverage disentangled heads to learn different feature context for each task. However, the heads are still applied on the same input features, which leads to an imperfect balance between classifcation and localization. In this work, we propose a novel Task-Specific COntext DEcoupling (TSCODE) head which further disentangles the feature encoding for two tasks. For classification, we generate spatially-coarse but semantically-strong feature encoding. For localization, we provide high-resolution feature map containing more edge information to better regress object boundaries. TSCODE is plug-and-play and can be easily incorperated into existing detection pipelines. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method stably improves different detectors by over 1.0 AP with less computational cost. Our code and models will be publicly released.

Forest aboveground biomass estimation using GEDI and earth observation data through attention-based deep learningWenquan Dong, Edward T. A. Mitchard, Hao Yu et al.
Accurate quantification of forest aboveground biomass (AGB) is critical for understanding carbon accounting in the context of climate change. In this study, we presented a novel attention-based deep learning approach for forest AGB estimation, primarily utilizing openly accessible EO data, including: GEDI LiDAR data, C-band Sentinel-1 SAR data, ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 data, and Sentinel-2 multispectral data. The attention UNet (AU) model achieved markedly higher accuracy for biomass estimation compared to the conventional RF algorithm. Specifically, the AU model attained an R2 of 0.66, RMSE of 43.66 Mg ha-1, and bias of 0.14 Mg ha-1, while RF resulted in lower scores of R2 0.62, RMSE 45.87 Mg ha-1, and bias 1.09 Mg ha-1. However, the superiority of the deep learning approach was not uniformly observed across all tested models. ResNet101 only achieved an R2 of 0.50, an RMSE of 52.93 Mg ha-1, and a bias of 0.99 Mg ha-1, while the UNet reported an R2 of 0.65, an RMSE of 44.28 Mg ha-1, and a substantial bias of 1.84 Mg ha-1. Moreover, to explore the performance of AU in the absence of spatial information, fully connected (FC) layers were employed to eliminate spatial information from the remote sensing data. AU-FC achieved intermediate R2 of 0.64, RMSE of 44.92 Mgha-1, and bias of -0.56 Mg ha-1, outperforming RF but underperforming AU model using spatial information. We also generated 10m forest AGB maps across Guangdong for the year 2019 using AU and compared it with that produced by RF. The AGB distributions from both models showed strong agreement with similar mean values; the mean forest AGB estimated by AU was 102.18 Mg ha-1 while that of RF was 104.84 Mg ha-1. Additionally, it was observed that the AGB map generated by AU provided superior spatial information. Overall, this research substantiates the feasibility of employing deep learning for biomass estimation based on satellite data.

Multimodal deep learning for mapping forest dominant height by fusing GEDI with earth observation dataMan Chen, Wenquan Dong, Hao Yu et al.
The integration of multisource remote sensing data and deep learning models offers new possibilities for accurately mapping high spatial resolution forest height. We found that GEDI relative heights (RH) metrics exhibited strong correlation with the mean of the top 10 highest trees (dominant height) measured in situ at the corresponding footprint locations. Consequently, we proposed a novel deep learning framework termed the multi-modal attention remote sensing network (MARSNet) to estimate forest dominant height by extrapolating dominant height derived from GEDI, using Setinel-1 data, ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 data, Sentinel-2 optical data and ancillary data. MARSNet comprises separate encoders for each remote sensing data modality to extract multi-scale features, and a shared decoder to fuse the features and estimate height. Using individual encoders for each remote sensing imagery avoids interference across modalities and extracts distinct representations. To focus on the efficacious information from each dataset, we reduced the prevalent spatial and band redundancies in each remote sensing data by incorporating the extended spatial and band reconstruction convolution modules in the encoders. MARSNet achieved commendable performance in estimating dominant height, with an R2 of 0.62 and RMSE of 2.82 m, outperforming the widely used random forest approach which attained an R2 of 0.55 and RMSE of 3.05 m. Finally, we applied the trained MARSNet model to generate wall-to-wall maps at 10 m resolution for Jilin, China. Through independent validation using field measurements, MARSNet demonstrated an R2 of 0.58 and RMSE of 3.76 m, compared to 0.41 and 4.37 m for the random forest baseline. Our research demonstrates the effectiveness of a multimodal deep learning approach fusing GEDI with SAR and passive optical imagery for enhancing the accuracy of high resolution dominant height estimation.

Learning to Pose Problems: Reasoning-Driven and Solver-Adaptive Data Synthesis for Large Reasoning ModelsYongxian Wei, Yilin Zhao, Li Shen et al.
Data synthesis for training large reasoning models offers a scalable alternative to limited, human-curated datasets, enabling the creation of high-quality data. However, existing approaches face several challenges: (i) indiscriminate generation that ignores the solver's ability and yields low-value problems, or reliance on complex data pipelines to balance problem difficulty; and (ii) a lack of reasoning in problem generation, leading to shallow problem variants. In this paper, we develop a problem generator that reasons explicitly to plan problem directions before synthesis and adapts difficulty to the solver's ability. Specifically, we construct related problem pairs and augment them with intermediate problem-design CoT produced by a reasoning model. These data bootstrap problem-design strategies from the generator. Then, we treat the solver's feedback on synthetic problems as a reward signal, enabling the generator to calibrate difficulty and produce complementary problems near the edge of the solver's competence. Extensive experiments on 10 mathematical and general reasoning benchmarks show that our method achieves an average improvement of 2.5% and generalizes to both language and vision-language models. Moreover, a solver trained on the synthesized data provides improved rewards for continued generator training, enabling co-evolution and yielding a further 0.7% performance gain. Single-Cell Deep Clustering Method Assisted by Exogenous Gene Information: A Novel Approach to Identifying Cell TypesDayu Hu, Ke Liang, Hao Yu et al.
In recent years, the field of single-cell data analysis has seen a marked advancement in the development of clustering methods. Despite advancements, most of these algorithms still concentrate on analyzing the provided single-cell matrix data. However, in medical applications, single-cell data often involves a wealth of exogenous information, including gene networks. Overlooking this aspect could lead to information loss and clustering results devoid of significant clinical relevance. An innovative single-cell deep clustering method, incorporating exogenous gene information, has been proposed to overcome this limitation. This model leverages exogenous gene network information to facilitate the clustering process, generating discriminative representations. Specifically, we have developed an attention-enhanced graph autoencoder, which is designed to efficiently capture the topological features between cells. Concurrently, we conducted a random walk on an exogenous Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) network, thereby acquiring the gene's topological features. Ultimately, during the clustering process, we integrated both sets of information and reconstructed the features of both cells and genes to generate a discriminative representation. Extensive experiments have validated the effectiveness of our proposed method. This research offers enhanced insights into the characteristics and distribution of cells, thereby laying the groundwork for early diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

Web Retrieval Agents for Evidence-Based Misinformation DetectionJacob-Junqi Tian, Hao Yu, Yury Orlovskiy et al.
This paper develops an agent-based automated fact-checking approach for detecting misinformation. We demonstrate that combining a powerful LLM agent, which does not have access to the internet for searches, with an online web search agent yields better results than when each tool is used independently. Our approach is robust across multiple models, outperforming alternatives and increasing the macro F1 of misinformation detection by as much as 20 percent compared to LLMs without search. We also conduct extensive analyses on the sources our system leverages and their biases, decisions in the construction of the system like the search tool and the knowledge base, the type of evidence needed and its impact on the results, and other parts of the overall process. By combining strong performance with in-depth understanding, we hope to provide building blocks for future search-enabled misinformation mitigation systems.

ZooPFL: Exploring Black-box Foundation Models for Personalized Federated LearningWang Lu, Hao Yu, Jindong Wang et al.
When personalized federated learning (FL) meets large foundation models, new challenges arise from various limitations in resources. In addition to typical limitations such as data, computation, and communication costs, access to the models is also often limited. This paper endeavors to solve both the challenges of limited resources and personalization. i.e., distribution shifts between clients. To do so, we propose a method named ZOOPFL that uses Zeroth-Order Optimization for Personalized Federated Learning. ZOOPFL avoids direct interference with the foundation models and instead learns to adapt its inputs through zeroth-order optimization. In addition, we employ simple yet effective linear projections to remap its predictions for personalization. To reduce the computation costs and enhance personalization, we propose input surgery to incorporate an auto-encoder with low-dimensional and client-specific embeddings. We provide theoretical support for ZOOPFL to analyze its convergence. Extensive empirical experiments on computer vision and natural language processing tasks using popular foundation models demonstrate its effectiveness for FL on black-box foundation models.

AutoWebGLM: A Large Language Model-based Web Navigating AgentHanyu Lai, Xiao Liu, Iat Long Iong et al. · tsinghua
Large language models (LLMs) have fueled many intelligent web agents, but most existing ones perform far from satisfying in real-world web navigation tasks due to three factors: (1) the complexity of HTML text data (2) versatility of actions on webpages, and (3) task difficulty due to the open-domain nature of the web. In light of these challenges, we develop the open AutoWebGLM based on ChatGLM3-6B. AutoWebGLM can serve as a powerful automated web navigation agent that outperform GPT-4. Inspired by human browsing patterns, we first design an HTML simplification algorithm to represent webpages with vital information preserved succinctly. We then employ a hybrid human-AI method to build web browsing data for curriculum training. Finally, we bootstrap the model by reinforcement learning and rejection sampling to further facilitate webpage comprehension, browser operations, and efficient task decomposition by itself. For comprehensive evaluation, we establish a bilingual benchmark -- AutoWebBench -- for real-world web navigation tasks. We evaluate AutoWebGLM across diverse web navigation benchmarks, demonstrating its potential to tackle challenging tasks in real environments. Enhancing Geometric Perception in VLMs via Translator-Guided Reinforcement LearningHao Yu, Shuning Jia, Guanghao Li et al.
Vision-language models (VLMs) often struggle with geometric reasoning due to their limited perception of fundamental diagram elements. To tackle this challenge, we introduce GeoPerceive, a benchmark comprising diagram instances paired with domain-specific language (DSL) representations, along with an efficient automatic data generation pipeline. This design enables the isolated evaluation of geometric perception independently from reasoning. To exploit the data provided by GeoPerceive for enhancing the geometric perception capabilities of VLMs, we propose GeoDPO, a translator-guided reinforcement learning (RL) framework. GeoDPO employs an NL-to-DSL translator, which is trained on synthetic pairs generated by the data engine of GeoPerceive, to bridge natural language and DSL. This translator facilitates the computation of fine-grained, DSL-level scores, which serve as reward signals in reinforcement learning. We assess GeoDPO on both in-domain and out-of-domain datasets, spanning tasks in geometric perception as well as downstream reasoning. Experimental results demonstrate that, while supervised fine-tuning (SFT) offers only marginal improvements and may even impair performance in out-of-domain scenarios, GeoDPO achieves substantial gains: $+26.5\%$ on in-domain data, $+8.0\%$ on out-of-domain data, and $+39.0\%$ on downstream reasoning tasks. Online Camera-to-ground Calibration for Autonomous DrivingBinbin Li, Xinyu Du, Yao Hu et al.
Online camera-to-ground calibration is to generate a non-rigid body transformation between the camera and the road surface in a real-time manner. Existing solutions utilize static calibration, suffering from environmental variations such as tire pressure changes, vehicle loading volume variations, and road surface diversity. Other online solutions exploit the usage of road elements or photometric consistency between overlapping views across images, which require continuous detection of specific targets on the road or assistance with multiple cameras to facilitate calibration. In our work, we propose an online monocular camera-to-ground calibration solution that does not utilize any specific targets while driving. We perform a coarse-to-fine approach for ground feature extraction through wheel odometry and estimate the camera-to-ground calibration parameters through a sliding-window-based factor graph optimization. Considering the non-rigid transformation of camera-to-ground while driving, we provide metrics to quantify calibration performance and stopping criteria to report/broadcast our satisfying calibration results. Extensive experiments using real-world data demonstrate that our algorithm is effective and outperforms state-of-the-art techniques.

AndroidLab: Training and Systematic Benchmarking of Android Autonomous AgentsYifan Xu, Xiao Liu, Xueqiao Sun et al. · tsinghua
Autonomous agents have become increasingly important for interacting with the real world. Android agents, in particular, have been recently a frequently-mentioned interaction method. However, existing studies for training and evaluating Android agents lack systematic research on both open-source and closed-source models. In this work, we propose AndroidLab as a systematic Android agent framework. It includes an operation environment with different modalities, action space, and a reproducible benchmark. It supports both large language models (LLMs) and multimodal models (LMMs) in the same action space. AndroidLab benchmark includes predefined Android virtual devices and 138 tasks across nine apps built on these devices. By using the AndroidLab environment, we develop an Android Instruction dataset and train six open-source LLMs and LMMs, lifting the average success rates from 4.59% to 21.50% for LLMs and from 1.93% to 13.28% for LMMs. AndroidLab is open-sourced and publicly available at https://github.com/THUDM/Android-Lab.

Variational Robust Kalman Filters: A Unified FrameworkShilei Li, Dawei Shi, Hao Yu et al.
Robustness and adaptivity are two competing objectives in Kalman filters (KF). Robustness involves temporarily inflating prior estimates of noise covariances, while adaptivity updates prior beliefs by exploiting measurements. In practical applications, both process and measurement noise can be influenced by outliers, be time-varying, or both. In this work, we propose a variational robust Kalman filter, built on a Student's $t$-distribution induced loss function and variational inference, and solved in a computationally efficient manner. We demonstrate that robustness can be understood as a prerequisite for adaptivity, making it possible to merge the above two competing goals into a single framework through a probabilistic switching rule. Additionally, our proposed filter can recover conventional KF, robust KF, and adaptive KF by tuning parameters, and can suppress both the imperfect process and measurement noise, enabling it to perform superiorly in complex noise environments. Simulations verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

AI Code in the Wild: Measuring Security Risks and Ecosystem Shifts of AI-Generated Code in Modern SoftwareBin Wang, Wenjie Yu, Yilu Zhong et al.
Large language models (LLMs) for code generation are becoming integral to modern software development, but their real-world prevalence and security impact remain poorly understood. We present the first large-scale empirical study of AI-generated code (AIGCode) in the wild. We build a high-precision detection pipeline and a representative benchmark to distinguish AIGCode from human-written code, and apply them to (i) development commits from the top 1,000 GitHub repositories (2022-2025) and (ii) 7,000+ recent CVE-linked code changes. This lets us label commits, files, and functions along a human/AI axis and trace how AIGCode moves through projects and vulnerability life cycles. Our measurements show three ecological patterns. First, AIGCode is already a substantial fraction of new code, but adoption is structured: AI concentrates in glue code, tests, refactoring, documentation, and other boilerplate, while core logic and security-critical configurations remain mostly human-written. Second, adoption has security consequences: some CWE families are overrepresented in AI-tagged code, and near-identical insecure templates recur across unrelated projects, suggesting "AI-induced vulnerabilities" propagated by shared models rather than shared maintainers. Third, in human-AI edit chains, AI introduces high-throughput changes while humans act as security gatekeepers; when review is shallow, AI-introduced defects persist longer, remain exposed on network-accessible surfaces, and spread to more files and repositories. We will open-source the complete dataset and release analysis artifacts and fine-grained documentation of our methodology and findings.

Closed-Loop Hybrid Digital Twin Platform for Connected and Automated Vehicle ValidationKanglong Quan, Zhebing Xia, Linfeng Jiang et al.
Comprehensive and efficient validation of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) is critical prior to real-world deployment. While simulation-based testing offers scalability, existing approaches often lack seamless integration with real vehicles and field data, limiting their fidelity in capturing dynamic, real-world interactions. To bridge this gap, this paper proposes a novel real-time hybrid digital twin platform. Its core innovation lies in the tight coupling of a high-fidelity CARLA-SUMO co-simulation with a physical test site and vehicle via a low-latency Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication link. A custom-developed middleware serves as the critical bridge, synchronizing a real CAV's kinematic state as a shadow vehicle in the simulation and translating virtual control commands into chassis-actuating Controller Area Network (CAN) messages for closed-loop control. Detailed implementation includes using photogrammetry for full-scale asset reconstruction and a cloud-edge collaborative architecture for scalable, multi-user operation. Experimental results demonstrate stable synchronization and effective closed-loop control with low latency, confirming the platform's practicality for multi-scenario CAV verification.

Automated Proof Generation for Rust Code via Self-EvolutionTianyu Chen, Shuai Lu, Shan Lu et al.
Ensuring correctness is crucial for code generation. Formal verification offers a definitive assurance of correctness, but demands substantial human effort in proof construction and hence raises a pressing need for automation. The primary obstacle lies in the severe lack of data-there is much fewer proofs than code snippets for Large Language Models (LLMs) to train upon. In this paper, we introduce SAFE, a framework that overcomes the lack of human-written proofs to enable automated proof generation of Rust code. SAFE establishes a self-evolving cycle where data synthesis and fine-tuning collaborate to enhance the model capability, leveraging the definitive power of a symbolic verifier in telling correct proofs from incorrect ones. SAFE also re-purposes the large number of synthesized incorrect proofs to train the self-debugging capability of the fine-tuned models, empowering them to fix incorrect proofs based on the verifier's feedback. SAFE demonstrates superior efficiency and precision compared to GPT-4o. Through tens of thousands of synthesized proofs and the self-debugging mechanism, we improve the capability of open-source models, initially unacquainted with formal verification, to automatically write proofs for Rust code. This advancement leads to a significant improvement in performance, achieving a 52.52% accuracy rate in a benchmark crafted by human experts, a significant leap over GPT-4o's performance of 14.39%.

Deep neural networks, while achieving remarkable success across diverse tasks, demand significant resources, including computation, GPU memory, bandwidth, storage, and energy. Network quantization, as a standard compression and acceleration technique, reduces storage costs and enables potential inference acceleration by discretizing network weights and activations into a finite set of integer values. However, current quantization methods are often complex and sensitive, requiring extensive task-specific hyperparameters, where even a single misconfiguration can impair model performance, limiting generality across different models and tasks. In this paper, we propose Quantization without Tears (QwT), a method that simultaneously achieves quantization speed, accuracy, simplicity, and generality. The key insight of QwT is to incorporate a lightweight additional structure into the quantized network to mitigate information loss during quantization. This structure consists solely of a small set of linear layers, keeping the method simple and efficient. More importantly, it provides a closed-form solution, allowing us to improve accuracy effortlessly under 2 minutes. Extensive experiments across various vision, language, and multimodal tasks demonstrate that QwT is both highly effective and versatile. In fact, our approach offers a robust solution for network quantization that combines simplicity, accuracy, and adaptability, which provides new insights for the design of novel quantization paradigms. InfiBench: Evaluating the Question-Answering Capabilities of Code Large Language ModelsLinyi Li, Shijie Geng, Zhenwen Li et al.
Large Language Models for code (code LLMs) have witnessed tremendous progress in recent years. With the rapid development of code LLMs, many popular evaluation benchmarks, such as HumanEval, DS-1000, and MBPP, have emerged to measure the performance of code LLMs with a particular focus on code generation tasks. However, they are insufficient to cover the full range of expected capabilities of code LLMs, which span beyond code generation to answering diverse coding-related questions. To fill this gap, we propose InfiBench, the first large-scale freeform question-answering (QA) benchmark for code to our knowledge, comprising 234 carefully selected high-quality Stack Overflow questions that span across 15 programming languages. InfiBench uses four types of model-free automatic metrics to evaluate response correctness where domain experts carefully concretize the criterion for each question. We conduct a systematic evaluation for over 100 latest code LLMs on InfiBench, leading to a series of novel and insightful findings. Our detailed analyses showcase potential directions for further advancement of code LLMs. InfiBench is fully open source at https://infi-coder.github.io/infibench and continuously expanding to foster more scientific and systematic practices for code LLM evaluation.

ChemVA: Advancing Large Language Models on Chemical Reaction Diagrams UnderstandingMingyang Rao, Kehua Feng, Zhihui Zhu et al.
While Large Language Models (LLMs) have revolutionized scientific text processing, they exhibit a significant capability gap when interpreting chemical reaction diagrams. We identify two fundamental bottlenecks restricting current systems: a Visual Deficit, where generic vision encoders struggle to resolve the strict topological connectivity of dense molecular graphs, and a Semantic Disconnect, where standard linear strings, such as SMILES, fail to effectively activate the model's latent chemical reasoning. To bridge these gaps, we propose the Chemical Visual Activation (ChemVA) framework, which employs a Visual Anchor mechanism to ground functional groups via hybrid-granularity detection, followed by a semantic alignment approach that translates visual features into entity names to maximize knowledge activation in LLMs. We evaluate our approach on OCRD-Bench, a newly constructed dataset featuring dense visual-semantic contexts and comprehensive reaction coverage to evaluate the full spectrum from recognition to reasoning. Extensive experiments on OCRD-Bench demonstrate that ChemVA achieves 92.0% structural recognition accuracy. By bridging visual and semantic bottlenecks, our framework delivers a consistent performance gain of approximately 20 percentage points across 9 diverse LLMs, enabling open-weight models to rival proprietary SOTA systems in complex chemical reasoning tasks.

INJONGO: A Multicultural Intent Detection and Slot-filling Dataset for 16 African LanguagesHao Yu, Jesujoba O. Alabi, Andiswa Bukula et al.
Slot-filling and intent detection are well-established tasks in Conversational AI. However, current large-scale benchmarks for these tasks often exclude evaluations of low-resource languages and rely on translations from English benchmarks, thereby predominantly reflecting Western-centric concepts. In this paper, we introduce Injongo -- a multicultural, open-source benchmark dataset for 16 African languages with utterances generated by native speakers across diverse domains, including banking, travel, home, and dining. Through extensive experiments, we benchmark the fine-tuning multilingual transformer models and the prompting large language models (LLMs), and show the advantage of leveraging African-cultural utterances over Western-centric utterances for improving cross-lingual transfer from the English language. Experimental results reveal that current LLMs struggle with the slot-filling task, with GPT-4o achieving an average performance of 26 F1-score. In contrast, intent detection performance is notably better, with an average accuracy of 70.6%, though it still falls behind the fine-tuning baselines. Compared to the English language, GPT-4o and fine-tuning baselines perform similarly on intent detection, achieving an accuracy of approximately 81%. Our findings suggest that the performance of LLMs is still behind for many low-resource African languages, and more work is needed to further improve their downstream performance.

Reviving Undersampling for Long-Tailed LearningHao Yu, Yingxiao Du, Jianxin Wu
The training datasets used in long-tailed recognition are extremely unbalanced, resulting in significant variation in per-class accuracy across categories. Prior works mostly used average accuracy to evaluate their algorithms, which easily ignores those worst-performing categories. In this paper, we aim to enhance the accuracy of the worst-performing categories and utilize the harmonic mean and geometric mean to assess the model's performance. We revive the balanced undersampling idea to achieve this goal. In few-shot learning, balanced subsets are few-shot and will surely under-fit, hence it is not used in modern long-tailed learning. But, we find that it produces a more equitable distribution of accuracy across categories with much higher harmonic and geometric mean accuracy, and, but lower average accuracy. Moreover, we devise a straightforward model ensemble strategy, which does not result in any additional overhead and achieves improved harmonic and geometric mean while keeping the average accuracy almost intact when compared to state-of-the-art long-tailed learning methods. FDeID-Toolbox: Face De-Identification ToolboxHui Wei, Hao Yu, Guoying Zhao
Face de-identification (FDeID) aims to remove personally identifiable information from facial images while preserving task-relevant utility attributes such as age, gender, and expression. It is critical for privacy-preserving computer vision, yet the field suffers from fragmented implementations, inconsistent evaluation protocols, and incomparable results across studies. These challenges stem from the inherent complexity of the task: FDeID spans multiple downstream applications (e.g., age estimation, gender recognition, expression analysis) and requires evaluation across three dimensions (e.g., privacy protection, utility preservation, and visual quality), making existing codebases difficult to use and extend. To address these issues, we present FDeID-Toolbox, a comprehensive toolbox designed for reproducible FDeID research. Our toolbox features a modular architecture comprising four core components: (1) standardized data loaders for mainstream benchmark datasets, (2) unified method implementations spanning classical approaches to SOTA generative models, (3) flexible inference pipelines, and (4) systematic evaluation protocols covering privacy, utility, and quality metrics. Through experiments, we demonstrate that FDeID-Toolbox enables fair and reproducible comparison of diverse FDeID methods under consistent conditions.

ComRoPE: Scalable and Robust Rotary Position Embedding Parameterized by Trainable Commuting Angle MatricesHao Yu, Tangyu Jiang, Shuning Jia et al.
The Transformer architecture has revolutionized various regions since it was proposed, and its effectiveness largely depends on the ability to encode positional information. Traditional position encoding methods exhibit significant limitations due to lack of robustness and flexibility of position. Therefore, Rotary Positional Encoding (RoPE) was proposed to alleviate these issues, which integrates positional information by rotating the embeddings in the attention mechanism. However, RoPE requires manually defined rotation matrices with limited transformation space, constraining the model's capacity. In this work, we propose ComRoPE, which generalizes RoPE by defining it in terms of trainable commuting angle matrices. Specifically, we demonstrate that pairwise commutativity of these matrices is essential for RoPE to achieve scalability and positional robustness. We formally define the RoPE Equation, which is an essential condition that ensures consistent performance with position offsets. Based on the theoretical analysis, we present two types of trainable commuting angle matrices as sufficient solutions to the RoPE equation, which significantly improve performance, surpassing the current state-of-the-art method by 1.6% at training resolution and 2.9% at higher resolution on the ImageNet-1K dataset. Furthermore, our framework shows versatility in generalizing to existing RoPE formulations and offering new insights for future positional encoding research. Data-Driven Modelling for Harmonic Current Emission in Low-Voltage Grid Using MCReSANet with Interpretability AnalysisJieyu Yao, Hao Yu, Paul Judge et al.
Even though the use of power electronics PE loads offers enhanced electrical energy conversion efficiency and control, they remain the primary sources of harmonics in grids. When diverse loads are connected in the distribution system, their interactions complicate establishing analytical models for the relationship between harmonic voltages and currents. To solve this, our paper presents a data-driven model using MCReSANet to construct the highly nonlinear between harmonic voltage and current. Two datasets from PCCs in Finland and Germany are utilized, which demonstrates that MCReSANet is capable of establishing accurate nonlinear mappings, even in the presence of various network characteristics for selected Finland and Germany datasets. The model built by MCReSANet can improve the MAE by 10% and 14% compared to the CNN, and by 8% and 17% compared to the MLP for both Finnish and German datasets, also showing much lower model uncertainty than others. This is a crucial prerequisite for more precise SHAP value-based feature importance analysis, which is a method for the model interpretability analysis in this paper. The results by feature importance analysis show the detailed relationships between each order of harmonic voltage and current in the distribution system. There is an interactive impact on each order of harmonic current, but some orders of harmonic voltages have a dominant influence on harmonic current emissions: positive sequence and zero sequence harmonics have the dominant importance in the Finnish and German networks, respectively, which conforms to the pattern of connected load types in two selected Finnish and German datasets. This paper enhances the potential for understanding and predicting harmonic current emissions by diverse PE loads in distribution systems, which is beneficial to more effective management for optimizing power quality in diverse grid environments.

AlphaVAE: Unified End-to-End RGBA Image Reconstruction and Generation with Alpha-Aware Representation LearningZile Wang, Hao Yu, Jiabo Zhan et al.
Recent advances in latent diffusion models have achieved remarkable results in high-fidelity RGB image synthesis by leveraging pretrained VAEs to compress and reconstruct pixel data at low computational cost. However, the generation of transparent or layered content (RGBA image) remains largely unexplored, due to the lack of large-scale benchmarks. In this work, we propose ALPHA, the first comprehensive RGBA benchmark that adapts standard RGB metrics to four-channel images via alpha blending over canonical backgrounds. We further introduce ALPHAVAE, a unified end-to-end RGBA VAE that extends a pretrained RGB VAE by incorporating a dedicated alpha channel. The model is trained with a composite objective that combines alpha-blended pixel reconstruction, patch-level fidelity, perceptual consistency, and dual KL divergence constraints to ensure latent fidelity across both RGB and alpha representations. Our RGBA VAE, trained on only 8K images in contrast to 1M used by prior methods, achieves a +4.9 dB improvement in PSNR and a +3.2% increase in SSIM over LayerDiffuse in reconstruction. It also enables superior transparent image generation when fine-tuned within a latent diffusion framework. L2RW+: A Comprehensive Benchmark Towards Privacy-Preserved Visible-Infrared Person Re-IdentificationYan Jiang, Hao Yu, Mengting Wei et al.
Visible-infrared person re-identification (VI-ReID) is a challenging task that aims to match pedestrian images captured under varying lighting conditions, which has drawn intensive research attention and achieved promising results. However, existing methods adopt the centralized training, ignoring the potential privacy concerns as the data is distributed across multiple devices or entities in reality. In this paper, we propose L2RW+, a benchmark that brings VI-ReID closer to real-world applications. The core rationale behind L2RW+ is that incorporating decentralized training into VI-ReID can address privacy concerns in scenarios with limited data-sharing constrains. Specifically, we design protocols and corresponding algorithms for different privacy sensitivity levels. In our new benchmark, we simulate the training under real-world data conditions that: 1) data from each camera is completely isolated, or 2) different data entities (e.g., data controllers of a certain region) can selectively share the data. In this way, we simulate scenarios with strict privacy restrictions, which is closer to real-world conditions. Comprehensive experiments show the feasibility and potential of decentralized VI-ReID training at both image and video levels. In particular, with increasing data scales, the performance gap between decentralized and centralized training decreases, especially in video-level VI-ReID. In unseen domains, decentralized training even achieves performance comparable to SOTA centralized methods. Evaluation of Retrieval-Augmented Generation: A SurveyHao Yu, Aoran Gan, Kai Zhang et al.
Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) has recently gained traction in natural language processing. Numerous studies and real-world applications are leveraging its ability to enhance generative models through external information retrieval. Evaluating these RAG systems, however, poses unique challenges due to their hybrid structure and reliance on dynamic knowledge sources. To better understand these challenges, we conduct A Unified Evaluation Process of RAG (Auepora) and aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the evaluation and benchmarks of RAG systems. Specifically, we examine and compare several quantifiable metrics of the Retrieval and Generation components, such as relevance, accuracy, and faithfulness, within the current RAG benchmarks, encompassing the possible output and ground truth pairs. We then analyze the various datasets and metrics, discuss the limitations of current benchmarks, and suggest potential directions to advance the field of RAG benchmarks.

Attentive Convolution: Unifying the Expressivity of Self-Attention with Convolutional EfficiencyHao Yu, Haoyu Chen, Yan Jiang et al.
Self-attention (SA) has become the cornerstone of modern vision backbones for its powerful expressivity over traditional Convolutions (Conv). However, its quadratic complexity remains a critical bottleneck for practical applications. Given that Conv offers linear complexity and strong visual priors, continuing efforts have been made to promote the renaissance of Conv. However, a persistent performance chasm remains, highlighting that these modernizations have not yet captured the intrinsic expressivity that defines SA. In this paper, we re-examine the design of the CNNs, directed by a key question: what principles give SA its edge over Conv? As a result, we reveal two fundamental insights that challenge the long-standing design intuitions in prior research (e.g., Receptive field). The two findings are: (1) \textit{Adaptive routing}: SA dynamically regulates positional information flow according to semantic content, whereas Conv employs static kernels uniformly across all positions. (2) \textit{Lateral inhibition}: SA induces score competition among token weighting, effectively suppressing redundancy and sharpening representations, whereas Conv filters lack such inhibitory dynamics and exhibit considerable redundancy. Based on this, we propose \textit{Attentive Convolution} (ATConv), a principled reformulation of the convolutional operator that intrinsically injects these principles. Interestingly, with only $3\times3$ kernels, ATConv consistently outperforms various SA mechanisms in fundamental vision tasks. Building on ATConv, we introduce AttNet, a CNN family that can attain \textbf{84.4\%} ImageNet-1K Top-1 accuracy with only 27M parameters. In diffusion-based image generation, replacing all SA with the proposed $3\times 3$ ATConv in SiT-XL/2 reduces ImageNet FID by 0.15 in 400k steps with faster sampling. SimdBench: Benchmarking Large Language Models for SIMD-Intrinsic Code GenerationYibo He, Shuoran Zhao, Jiaming Huang et al.
SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data) instructions and their compiler intrinsics are widely supported by modern processors to accelerate performance-critical tasks. SIMD intrinsic programming, a trade-off between coding productivity and high performance, is widely used in the development of mainstream performance-critical libraries and daily computing tasks. Large Language Models (LLMs), which have demonstrated strong and comprehensive capabilities in code generation, show promise in assisting programmers with the challenges of SIMD intrinsic programming. However, existing code-generation benchmarks focus on only scalar code, and it is unclear how LLMs perform in generating vectorized code using SIMD intrinsics. To fill this gap, we propose SimdBench, the first code benchmark specifically designed for SIMD-intrinsic code generation, comprising 136 carefully crafted tasks and targeting five representative SIMD intrinsics: SSE (x86 Streaming SIMD Extension), AVX (x86 Advanced Vector Extension), Neon (ARM Advanced SIMD Extension), SVE (ARM Scalable Vector Extension), and RVV (RISC-V Vector Extension). We conduct a systematic evaluation (measuring both correctness and performance) of 18 representative LLMs on SimdBench, resulting in a series of novel and insightful findings. Our evaluation results demonstrate that LLMs exhibit a universal decrease in pass@k during SIMD-intrinsic code generation compared to scalar-code generation. Our in-depth analysis highlights promising directions for the further advancement of LLMs in the challenging domain of SIMD-intrinsic code generation.
