Latent Disentanglement for Low Light Image Enhancement

Zhihao Zheng, Mooi Choo Chuah

Many learning-based low-light image enhancement (LLIE) algorithms are based on the Retinex theory. However, the Retinex-based decomposition techniques in such models introduce corruptions which limit their enhancement performance. In this paper, we propose a Latent Disentangle-based Enhancement Network (LDE-Net) for low light vision tasks. The latent disentanglement module disentangles the input image in latent space such that no corruption remains in the disentangled Content and Illumination components. For LLIE task, we design a Content-Aware Embedding (CAE) module that utilizes Content features to direct the enhancement of the Illumination component. For downstream tasks (e.g. nighttime UAV tracking and low-light object detection), we develop an effective light-weight enhancer based on the latent disentanglement framework. Comprehensive quantitative and qualitative experiments demonstrate that our LDE-Net significantly outperforms state-of-the-art methods on various LLIE benchmarks. In addition, the great results obtained by applying our framework on the downstream tasks also demonstrate the usefulness of our latent disentanglement design.

PredMapNet: Future and Historical Reasoning for Consistent Online HD Vectorized Map Construction

Bo Lang, Nirav Savaliya, Zhihao Zheng et al.

High-definition (HD) maps are crucial to autonomous driving, providing structured representations of road elements to support navigation and planning. However, existing query-based methods often employ random query initialization and depend on implicit temporal modeling, which lead to temporal inconsistencies and instabilities during the construction of a global map. To overcome these challenges, we introduce a novel end-to-end framework for consistent online HD vectorized map construction, which jointly performs map instance tracking and short-term prediction. First, we propose a Semantic-Aware Query Generator that initializes queries with spatially aligned semantic masks to capture scene-level context globally. Next, we design a History Rasterized Map Memory to store fine-grained instance-level maps for each tracked instance, enabling explicit historical priors. A History-Map Guidance Module then integrates rasterized map information into track queries, improving temporal continuity. Finally, we propose a Short-Term Future Guidance module to forecast the immediate motion of map instances based on the stored history trajectories. These predicted future locations serve as hints for tracked instances to further avoid implausible predictions and keep temporal consistency. Extensive experiments on the nuScenes and Argoverse2 datasets demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods with good efficiency.

MBD: A Model-Based Debiasing Framework Across User, Content, and Model Dimensions

Yuantong Li, Lei Yuan, Zhihao Zheng et al.

Modern recommendation systems rank candidates by aggregating multiple behavioral signals through a value model. However, many commonly used signals are inherently affected by heterogeneous biases. For example, watch time naturally favors long-form content, loop rate favors short - form content, and comment probability favors videos over images. Such biases introduce two critical issues: (1) value model scores may be systematically misaligned with users' relative preferences - for instance, a seemingly low absolute like probability may represent exceptionally strong interest for a user who rarely engages; and (2) changes in value modeling rules can trigger abrupt and undesirable ecosystem shifts. In this work, we ask a fundamental question: can biased behavioral signals be systematically transformed into unbiased signals, under a user - defined notion of ``unbiasedness'', that are both personalized and adaptive? We propose a general, model-based debiasing (MBD) framework that addresses this challenge by augmenting it with distributional modeling. By conditioning on a flexible subset of features (partial feature set), we explicitly estimate the contextual mean and variance of the engagement distribution for arbitrary cohorts (e.g., specific video lengths or user regions) directly alongside the main prediction. This integration allows the framework to convert biased raw signals into unbiased representations, enabling the construction of higher-level, calibrated signals (such as percentiles or z - scores) suitable for the value model. Importantly, the definition of unbiasedness is flexible and controllable, allowing the system to adapt to different personalization objectives and modeling preferences. Crucially, this is implemented as a lightweight, built-in branch of the existing MTML ranking model, requiring no separate serving infrastructure.

MICCAI STS 2024 Challenge: Semi-Supervised Instance-Level Tooth Segmentation in Panoramic X-ray and CBCT Images

Yaqi Wang, Zhi Li, Chengyu Wu et al.

Orthopantomogram (OPGs) and Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) are vital for dentistry, but creating large datasets for automated tooth segmentation is hindered by the labor-intensive process of manual instance-level annotation. This research aimed to benchmark and advance semi-supervised learning (SSL) as a solution for this data scarcity problem. We organized the 2nd Semi-supervised Teeth Segmentation (STS 2024) Challenge at MICCAI 2024. We provided a large-scale dataset comprising over 90,000 2D images and 3D axial slices, which includes 2,380 OPG images and 330 CBCT scans, all featuring detailed instance-level FDI annotations on part of the data. The challenge attracted 114 (OPG) and 106 (CBCT) registered teams. To ensure algorithmic excellence and full transparency, we rigorously evaluated the valid, open-source submissions from the top 10 (OPG) and top 5 (CBCT) teams, respectively. All successful submissions were deep learning-based SSL methods. The winning semi-supervised models demonstrated impressive performance gains over a fully-supervised nnU-Net baseline trained only on the labeled data. For the 2D OPG track, the top method improved the Instance Affinity (IA) score by over 44 percentage points. For the 3D CBCT track, the winning approach boosted the Instance Dice score by 61 percentage points. This challenge confirms the substantial benefit of SSL for complex, instance-level medical image segmentation tasks where labeled data is scarce. The most effective approaches consistently leveraged hybrid semi-supervised frameworks that combined knowledge from foundational models like SAM with multi-stage, coarse-to-fine refinement pipelines. Both the challenge dataset and the participants' submitted code have been made publicly available on GitHub (https://github.com/ricoleehduu/STS-Challenge-2024), ensuring transparency and reproducibility.
