Recurrent Generic Contour-based Instance Segmentation with Progressive Learning

Contour-based instance segmentation has been actively studied, thanks to its flexibility and elegance in processing visual objects within complex backgrounds. In this work, we propose a novel deep network architecture, i.e., PolySnake, for generic contour-based instance segmentation. Motivated by the classic Snake algorithm, the proposed PolySnake achieves superior and robust segmentation performance with an iterative and progressive contour refinement strategy. Technically, PolySnake introduces a recurrent update operator to estimate the object contour iteratively. It maintains a single estimate of the contour that is progressively deformed toward the object boundary. At each iteration, PolySnake builds a semantic-rich representation for the current contour and feeds it to the recurrent operator for further contour adjustment. Through the iterative refinements, the contour progressively converges to a stable status that tightly encloses the object instance. Beyond the scope of general instance segmentation, extensive experiments are conducted to validate the effectiveness and generalizability of our PolySnake in two additional specific task scenarios, including scene text detection and lane detection. The results demonstrate that the proposed PolySnake outperforms the existing advanced methods on several multiple prevalent benchmarks across the three tasks. Cyclic-Bootstrap Labeling for Weakly Supervised Object Detection

Recent progress in weakly supervised object detection is featured by a combination of multiple instance detection networks (MIDN) and ordinal online refinement. However, with only image-level annotation, MIDN inevitably assigns high scores to some unexpected region proposals when generating pseudo labels. These inaccurate high-scoring region proposals will mislead the training of subsequent refinement modules and thus hamper the detection performance. In this work, we explore how to ameliorate the quality of pseudo-labeling in MIDN. Formally, we devise Cyclic-Bootstrap Labeling (CBL), a novel weakly supervised object detection pipeline, which optimizes MIDN with rank information from a reliable teacher network. Specifically, we obtain this teacher network by introducing a weighted exponential moving average strategy to take advantage of various refinement modules. A novel class-specific ranking distillation algorithm is proposed to leverage the output of weighted ensembled teacher network for distilling MIDN with rank information. As a result, MIDN is guided to assign higher scores to accurate proposals among their neighboring ones, thus benefiting the subsequent pseudo labeling. Extensive experiments on the prevalent PASCAL VOC 2007 \& 2012 and COCO datasets demonstrate the superior performance of our CBL framework. Dual Decision Improves Open-Set Panoptic Segmentation

Open-set panoptic segmentation (OPS) problem is a new research direction aiming to perform segmentation for both \known classes and \unknown classes, i.e., the objects ("things") that are never annotated in the training set. The main challenges of OPS are twofold: (1) the infinite possibility of the \unknown object appearances makes it difficult to model them from a limited number of training data. (2) at training time, we are only provided with the "void" category, which essentially mixes the "unknown thing" and "background" classes. We empirically find that directly using "void" category to supervise \known class or "background" classifiers without screening will lead to an unsatisfied OPS result. In this paper, we propose a divide-and-conquer scheme to develop a dual decision process for OPS. We show that by properly combining a \known class discriminator with an additional class-agnostic object prediction head, the OPS performance can be significantly improved. Specifically, we first propose to create a classifier with only \known categories and let the "void" class proposals achieve low prediction probability from those categories. Then we distinguish the "unknown things" from the background by using the additional object prediction head. To further boost performance, we introduce "unknown things" pseudo-labels generated from up-to-date models to enrich the training set. Our extensive experimental evaluation shows that our approach significantly improves \unknown class panoptic quality, with more than 30\% relative improvements than the existing best-performed method.

AutoRPA: Efficient GUI Automation through LLM-Driven Code Synthesis from Interactions

Large Language Model (LLM) based agents have demonstrated proficiency in multi-step interactions with graphical user interfaces (GUIs). While most research focuses on improving single-task performance, practical scenarios often involve repetitive GUI tasks for which invoking LLM reasoning repeatedly, i.e., the ReAct paradigm, is inefficient. Prior to LLMs, traditional Robotic Process Automation (RPA) offers runtime efficiency but demands significant manual effort to develop and maintain. To bridge this gap, we propose AutoRPA, a framework that automatically distills the decision logic of ReAct-style agents into robust RPA functions. AutoRPA introduces two core innovations: (1) A translator-builder pipeline, where a translator agent converts hard-coded ReAct actions into soft-coded procedures, and a builder agent synthesizes robust RPA functions via retrieval-augmented generation over multiple trajectories; (2) A hybrid repair strategy during code verification, combining RPA execution with ReAct-based fallback for iterative refinement. Experiments across multiple GUI environments demonstrate that RPA functions generated by AutoRPA successfully solve similar tasks while reducing token usage by 82% to 96%, significantly improving runtime efficiency and reusability.

Learning step-level dynamic soaring in shear flow

Dynamic soaring enables sustained flight by extracting energy from wind shear, yet it is commonly understood as a cycle-level maneuver that assumes stable flow conditions. In realistic unsteady environments, however, such assumptions are often violated, raising the question of whether explicit cycle-level planning is necessary. Here, we show that dynamic soaring can emerge from step-level, state-feedback control using only local sensing, without explicit trajectory planning. Using deep reinforcement learning as a tool, we obtain policies that achieve robust omnidirectional navigation across diverse shear-flow conditions. The learned behavior organizes into a structured control law that coordinates turning and vertical motion, giving rise to a two-phase strategy governed by a trade-off between energy extraction and directional progress. The resulting policy generalizes across varying conditions and reproduces key features observed in biological flight and optimal-control solutions. These findings identify a feedback-based control structure underlying dynamic soaring, demonstrating that efficient energy-harvesting flight can emerge from local interactions with the flow without explicit planning, and providing insights for biological flight and autonomous systems in complex, flow-coupled environments.

EReCu: Pseudo-label Evolution Fusion and Refinement with Multi-Cue Learning for Unsupervised Camouflage Detection

Unsupervised Camouflaged Object Detection (UCOD) remains a challenging task due to the high intrinsic similarity between target objects and their surroundings, as well as the reliance on noisy pseudo-labels that hinder fine-grained texture learning. While existing refinement strategies aim to alleviate label noise, they often overlook intrinsic perceptual cues, leading to boundary overflow and structural ambiguity. In contrast, learning without pseudo-label guidance yields coarse features with significant detail loss. To address these issues, we propose a unified UCOD framework that enhances both the reliability of pseudo-labels and the fidelity of features. Our approach introduces the Multi-Cue Native Perception module, which extracts intrinsic visual priors by integrating low-level texture cues with mid-level semantics, enabling precise alignment between masks and native object information. Additionally, Pseudo-Label Evolution Fusion intelligently refines labels through teacher-student interaction and utilizes depthwise separable convolution for efficient semantic denoising. It also incorporates Spectral Tensor Attention Fusion to effectively balance semantic and structural information through compact spectral aggregation across multi-layer attention maps. Finally, Local Pseudo-Label Refinement plays a pivotal role in local detail optimization by leveraging attention diversity to restore fine textures and enhance boundary fidelity. Extensive experiments on multiple UCOD datasets demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance, characterized by superior detail perception, robust boundary alignment, and strong generalization under complex camouflage scenarios.

Masked Collaborative Contrast for Weakly Supervised Semantic Segmentation

This study introduces an efficacious approach, Masked Collaborative Contrast (MCC), to highlight semantic regions in weakly supervised semantic segmentation. MCC adroitly draws inspiration from masked image modeling and contrastive learning to devise a novel framework that induces keys to contract toward semantic regions. Unlike prevalent techniques that directly eradicate patch regions in the input image when generating masks, we scrutinize the neighborhood relations of patch tokens by exploring masks considering keys on the affinity matrix. Moreover, we generate positive and negative samples in contrastive learning by utilizing the masked local output and contrasting it with the global output. Elaborate experiments on commonly employed datasets evidences that the proposed MCC mechanism effectively aligns global and local perspectives within the image, attaining impressive performance. Multiple Consistent 2D-3D Mappings for Robust Zero-Shot 3D Visual Grounding

Zero-shot 3D Visual Grounding (3DVG) is a critical capability for open-world embodied AI. However, existing methods are fundamentally bottlenecked by the poor quality of open-vocabulary 3D proposals, suffering from inaccurate categories and imprecise geometries, as well as the spatial redundancy of exhaustive multi-view reasoning. To address these challenges, we propose MCM-VG, a novel framework that achieves robust zero-shot 3DVG by explicitly establishing Multiple Consistent 2D-3D Mappings. Instead of passively relying on noisy 3D segments, MCM-VG enforces 2D-3D consistency across three fundamental dimensions to achieve precise target localization and reliable reasoning. First, a Semantic Alignment module corrects category mismatches via LLM-driven query parsing and coarse-to-fine 2D-3D matching. Second, an Instance Rectification module leverages VLM-guided 2D segmentations to reconstruct missing targets, back-projecting these reliable visual priors to establish accurate 3D geometries. Finally, to eliminate spatial redundancy, a Viewpoint Distillation module clusters 3D camera directions to extract optimal frames. By pairing these optimal RGB frames with Bird's Eye View maps into concise visual prompt sets, we formulate the final target disambiguation as a multiple-choice reasoning task for Vision-Language Models. Extensive evaluations on ScanRefer and Nr3D benchmarks demonstrate that MCM-VG sets a new state-of-the-art for zero-shot 3D visual grounding. Remarkably, it achieves 62.0\% and 53.6\% in Acc@0.25 and Acc@0.5 on ScanRefer, outperforming previous baselines by substantial margins of 6.4\% and 4.0\%.

Progressive Video Condensation with MLLM Agent for Long-form Video Understanding

Understanding long videos requires extracting query-relevant information from long sequences under tight compute budgets. Existing text-then-LLM pipelines lose fine-grained visual cues, while video-based multimodal large language models (MLLMs) can keep visual details but are too frame-hungry and computationally expensive. In this work, we aim to harness MLLMs for efficient video understanding. We propose ProVCA, a progressive video condensation agent that iteratively locates key video frames at multiple granularities. ProVCA first adopts a segment localization module to identify the video segment relevant to the query, then a snippet selection module to select important snippets based on similarity, and finally a keyframe refinement module to pinpoint specific keyframes in those snippets. By progressively narrowing the scope from coarse segments to fine frames, ProVCA identifies a small set of keyframes for MLLM-based reasoning. ProVCA achieves state-of-the-art zero-shot accuracies of 69.3\% on EgoSchema, 80.5\% on NExT-QA, and 77.7\% on IntentQA, while using fewer frames than previous training-free methods.

Self-Classification Enhancement and Correction for Weakly Supervised Object Detection

In recent years, weakly supervised object detection (WSOD) has attracted much attention due to its low labeling cost. The success of recent WSOD models is often ascribed to the two-stage multi-class classification (MCC) task, i.e., multiple instance learning and online classification refinement. Despite achieving non-trivial progresses, these methods overlook potential classification ambiguities between these two MCC tasks and fail to leverage their unique strengths. In this work, we introduce a novel WSOD framework to ameliorate these two issues. For one thing, we propose a self-classification enhancement module that integrates intra-class binary classification (ICBC) to bridge the gap between the two distinct MCC tasks. The ICBC task enhances the network's discrimination between positive and mis-located samples in a class-wise manner and forges a mutually reinforcing relationship with the MCC task. For another, we propose a self-classification correction algorithm during inference, which combines the results of both MCC tasks to effectively reduce the mis-classified predictions. Extensive experiments on the prevalent VOC 2007 & 2012 datasets demonstrate the superior performance of our framework.

VideoARM: Agentic Reasoning over Hierarchical Memory for Long-Form Video Understanding

Long-form video understanding remains challenging due to the extended temporal structure and dense multimodal cues. Despite recent progress, many existing approaches still rely on hand-crafted reasoning pipelines or employ token-consuming video preprocessing to guide MLLMs in autonomous reasoning. To overcome these limitations, we introduce VideoARM, an Agentic Reasoning-over-hierarchical-Memory paradigm for long-form video understanding. Instead of static, exhaustive preprocessing, VideoARM performs adaptive, on-the-fly agentic reasoning and memory construction. Specifically, VideoARM performs an adaptive and continuous loop of observing, thinking, acting, and memorizing, where a controller autonomously invokes tools to interpret the video in a coarse-to-fine manner, thereby substantially reducing token consumption. In parallel, a hierarchical multimodal memory continuously captures and updates multi-level clues throughout the operation of the agent, providing precise contextual information to support the controller in decision-making. Experiments on prevalent benchmarks demonstrate that VideoARM outperforms the state-of-the-art method, DVD, while significantly reducing token consumption for long-form videos.

Unified Open-World Segmentation with Multi-Modal Prompts

In this work, we present COSINE, a unified open-world segmentation model that consolidates open-vocabulary segmentation and in-context segmentation with multi-modal prompts (e.g., text and image). COSINE exploits foundation models to extract representations for an input image and corresponding multi-modal prompts, and a SegDecoder to align these representations, model their interaction, and obtain masks specified by input prompts across different granularities. In this way, COSINE overcomes architectural discrepancies, divergent learning objectives, and distinct representation learning strategies of previous pipelines for open-vocabulary segmentation and in-context segmentation. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that COSINE has significant performance improvements in both open-vocabulary and in-context segmentation tasks. Our exploratory analyses highlight that the synergistic collaboration between using visual and textual prompts leads to significantly improved generalization over single-modality approaches.
