VA-$π$: Variational Policy Alignment for Pixel-Aware Autoregressive Generation

Xinyao Liao, Qiyuan He, Kai Xu et al.

Autoregressive (AR) visual generation relies on tokenizers to map images to and from discrete sequences. However, tokenizers are trained to reconstruct clean images from ground-truth tokens, while AR generators are optimized only for token likelihood. This misalignment leads to generated token sequences that may decode into low-quality images, without direct supervision from the pixel space. We propose VA-$π$, a lightweight post-training framework that directly optimizes AR models with a principled pixel-space objective. VA-$π$ formulates the generator-tokenizer alignment as a variational optimization, deriving an evidence lower bound (ELBO) that unifies pixel reconstruction and autoregressive modeling. To optimize under the discrete token space, VA-$π$ introduces a reinforcement-based alignment strategy that treats the AR generator as a policy, uses pixel-space reconstruction quality as its intrinsic reward. The reward is measured by how well the predicted token sequences can reconstruct the original image under teacher forcing, giving the model direct pixel-level guidance without expensive free-running sampling. The regularization term of the ELBO serves as a natural regularizer, maintaining distributional consistency of tokens. VA-$π$ enables rapid adaptation of existing AR generators, without neither tokenizer retraining nor external reward models. With only 1% ImageNet-1K data and 25 minutes of tuning, it reduces FID from 14.36 to 7.65 and improves IS from 86.55 to 116.70 on LlamaGen-XXL, while also yielding notable gains in the text-to-image task on GenEval for both visual generation model (LlamaGen: from 0.306 to 0.339) and unified multi-modal model (Janus-Pro: from 0.725 to 0.744). ViStoryBench: Comprehensive Benchmark Suite for Story Visualization

Cailin Zhuang, Ailin Huang, Wei Cheng et al.

Story visualization aims to generate coherent image sequences that faithfully depict a narrative and align with character references. Despite progress in generative models, existing benchmarks are narrow in scope, often limited to short prompts, no character reference, or single-image cases, and fall short of real-world storytelling complexity. This hinders a nuanced understanding of model capabilities and limitations. We present ViStoryBench, a comprehensive benchmark designed to evaluate story visualization models across diverse narrative structures, visual styles, and character settings. The benchmark features richly annotated multi-shot scripts derived from curated stories spanning literature, film, and folklore. Large language models assist in story summarization and script generation, with all outputs verified by humans to ensure coherence and fidelity. Character references are carefully curated to maintain intra-story consistency across varying artistic styles. To enable thorough evaluation, ViStoryBench introduces a set of automated metrics that assess character consistency, style similarity, prompt adherence, aesthetic quality, and generation artifacts such as copy-paste behavior. These metrics are validated through human studies, and used to benchmark a broad range of open-source and commercial models. ViStoryBench offers a high-fidelity, multi-dimensional evaluation suite that facilitates systematic analysis and fosters future progress in visual storytelling.

PR-NeuS: A Prior-based Residual Learning Paradigm for Fast Multi-view Neural Surface Reconstruction

Jianyao Xu, Qingshan Xu, Xinyao Liao et al.

Neural surfaces learning has shown impressive performance in multi-view surface reconstruction. However, most existing methods use large multilayer perceptrons (MLPs) to train their models from scratch, resulting in hours of training for a single scene. Recently, how to accelerate the neural surfaces learning has received a lot of attention and remains an open problem. In this work, we propose a prior-based residual learning paradigm for fast multi-view neural surface reconstruction. This paradigm consists of two optimization stages. In the first stage, we propose to leverage generalization models to generate a basis signed distance function (SDF) field. This initial field can be quickly obtained by fusing multiple local SDF fields produced by generalization models. This provides a coarse global geometry prior. Based on this prior, in the second stage, a fast residual learning strategy based on hash-encoding networks is proposed to encode an offset SDF field for the basis SDF field. Moreover, we introduce a prior-guided sampling scheme to help the residual learning stage converge better, and thus recover finer structures. With our designed paradigm, experimental results show that our method only takes about 3 minutes to reconstruct the surface of a single scene, while achieving competitive surface quality. Our code will be released upon publication.

VPG: Visual Prefix Guidance for Autoregressive Image and Video Generation

Xinyao Liao, Qiyuan He, Yicong Li et al.

Autoregressive image and video generators are trained with teacher-forced histories but must sample from their own generated prefixes at inference time, making them vulnerable to exposure bias and prefix drift. Existing remedies either modify training or apply sampling-time guidance aimed primarily at external semantic conditions, such as class labels or text prompts, rather than testing whether a next-step prediction provides strong posterior support for the generated prefix itself. We propose Visual Prefix Guidance (VPG), a training-free inference-time guidance method for autoregressive image and video generation. VPG improves next-step prediction by contrasting the model's output under the generated prefix with its output under a corrupted prefix, then extrapolating logits toward candidates that strengthen the posterior support of the generated prefix. Across class-conditional image generation with VAR, text-to-image generation with Infinity, and text-to-video generation with InfinityStar, VPG improves generation quality without retraining the base model, reducing FID on VAR by 0.36 on average and improving benchmark performance on both image and video generation.

MotionAgent: Fine-grained Controllable Video Generation via Motion Field Agent

Xinyao Liao, Xianfang Zeng, Liao Wang et al.

We propose MotionAgent, enabling fine-grained motion control for text-guided image-to-video generation. The key technique is the motion field agent that converts motion information in text prompts into explicit motion fields, providing flexible and precise motion guidance. Specifically, the agent extracts the object movement and camera motion described in the text and converts them into object trajectories and camera extrinsics, respectively. An analytical optical flow composition module integrates these motion representations in 3D space and projects them into a unified optical flow. An optical flow adapter takes the flow to control the base image-to-video diffusion model for generating fine-grained controlled videos. The significant improvement in the Video-Text Camera Motion metrics on VBench indicates that our method achieves precise control over camera motion. We construct a subset of VBench to evaluate the alignment of motion information in the text and the generated video, outperforming other advanced models on motion generation accuracy.

UniQ: Unified Decoder with Task-specific Queries for Efficient Scene Graph Generation

Xinyao Liao, Wei Wei, Dangyang Chen et al.

Scene Graph Generation(SGG) is a scene understanding task that aims at identifying object entities and reasoning their relationships within a given image. In contrast to prevailing two-stage methods based on a large object detector (e.g., Faster R-CNN), one-stage methods integrate a fixed-size set of learnable queries to jointly reason relational triplets <subject, predicate, object>. This paradigm demonstrates robust performance with significantly reduced parameters and computational overhead. However, the challenge in one-stage methods stems from the issue of weak entanglement, wherein entities involved in relationships require both coupled features shared within triplets and decoupled visual features. Previous methods either adopt a single decoder for coupled triplet feature modeling or multiple decoders for separate visual feature extraction but fail to consider both. In this paper, we introduce UniQ, a Unified decoder with task-specific Queries architecture, where task-specific queries generate decoupled visual features for subjects, objects, and predicates respectively, and unified decoder enables coupled feature modeling within relational triplets. Experimental results on the Visual Genome dataset demonstrate that UniQ has superior performance to both one-stage and two-stage methods.
