UniPoll: A Unified Social Media Poll Generation Framework via Multi-Objective Optimization

Social media platforms are vital for expressing opinions and understanding public sentiment, yet many analytical tools overlook passive users who mainly consume content without engaging actively. To address this, we introduce UniPoll, an advanced framework designed to automatically generate polls from social media posts using sophisticated natural language generation (NLG) techniques. Unlike traditional methods that struggle with social media's informal and context-sensitive nature, UniPoll leverages enriched contexts from user comments and employs multi-objective optimization to enhance poll relevance and engagement. To tackle the inherently noisy nature of social media data, UniPoll incorporates Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and synthetic data generation, ensuring robust performance across real-world scenarios. The framework surpasses existing models, including T5, ChatGLM3, and GPT-3.5, in generating coherent and contextually appropriate question-answer pairs. Evaluated on the Chinese WeiboPolls dataset and the newly introduced English RedditPolls dataset, UniPoll demonstrates superior cross-lingual and cross-platform capabilities, making it a potent tool to boost user engagement and create a more inclusive environment for interaction.

VIALM: A Survey and Benchmark of Visually Impaired Assistance with Large Models

Visually Impaired Assistance (VIA) aims to automatically help the visually impaired (VI) handle daily activities. The advancement of VIA primarily depends on developments in Computer Vision (CV) and Natural Language Processing (NLP), both of which exhibit cutting-edge paradigms with large models (LMs). Furthermore, LMs have shown exceptional multimodal abilities to tackle challenging physically-grounded tasks such as embodied robots. To investigate the potential and limitations of state-of-the-art (SOTA) LMs' capabilities in VIA applications, we present an extensive study for the task of VIA with LMs (VIALM). In this task, given an image illustrating the physical environments and a linguistic request from a VI user, VIALM aims to output step-by-step guidance to assist the VI user in fulfilling the request grounded in the environment. The study consists of a survey reviewing recent LM research and benchmark experiments examining selected LMs' capabilities in VIA. The results indicate that while LMs can potentially benefit VIA, their output cannot be well environment-grounded (i.e., 25.7% GPT-4's responses) and lacks fine-grained guidance (i.e., 32.1% GPT-4's responses).

Structural Enforcement of Goal Integrity in AI Agents via Separation-of-Powers Architecture

Recent evidence suggests that frontier AI systems can exhibit agentic misalignment, generating and executing harmful actions derived from internally constructed goals, even without explicit user requests. Existing mitigation methods, such as Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) and constitutional prompting, operate primarily at the model level and provide only probabilistic safety guarantees. We propose the Policy-Execution-Authorization (PEA) architecture, a "separation-of-powers" design that enforces safety at the system level. PEA decouples intent generation, authorization, and execution into independent, isolated layers connected via cryptographically constrained capability tokens. We present five core contributions: (C1) an Intent Verification Layer (IVL) for ensuring capability-intent consistency; (C2) Intent Lineage Tracking (ILT), which binds all executable intents to the originating user request via cryptographic anchors; (C3) Goal Drift Detection, which rejects semantically divergent intents below a configurable threshold; (C4) an Output Semantic Gate (OSG) that detects implicit coercion using a structured $K \times I \times P$ threat calculus (Knowledge, Influence, Policy); and (C5) a formal verification framework proving that goal integrity is maintained even under adversarial model compromise. By shifting agent alignment from a behavioral property to a structurally enforced system constraint, PEA provides a robust foundation for the governance of autonomous agents.

Dual Memory Network Model for Biased Product Review Classification

In sentiment analysis (SA) of product reviews, both user and product information are proven to be useful. Current tasks handle user profile and product information in a unified model which may not be able to learn salient features of users and products effectively. In this work, we propose a dual user and product memory network (DUPMN) model to learn user profiles and product reviews using separate memory networks. Then, the two representations are used jointly for sentiment prediction. The use of separate models aims to capture user profiles and product information more effectively. Compared to state-of-the-art unified prediction models, the evaluations on three benchmark datasets, IMDB, Yelp13, and Yelp14, show that our dual learning model gives performance gain of 0.6%, 1.2%, and 0.9%, respectively. The improvements are also deemed very significant measured by p-values.
