Unified-modal Salient Object Detection via Adaptive Prompt LearningKunpeng Wang, Chenglong Li, Zhengzheng Tu et al.
Existing single-modal and multi-modal salient object detection (SOD) methods focus on designing specific architectures tailored for their respective tasks. However, developing completely different models for different tasks leads to labor and time consumption, as well as high computational and practical deployment costs. In this paper, we attempt to address both single-modal and multi-modal SOD in a unified framework called UniSOD, which fully exploits the overlapping prior knowledge between different tasks. Nevertheless, assigning appropriate strategies to modality variable inputs is challenging. To this end, UniSOD learns modality-aware prompts with task-specific hints through adaptive prompt learning, which are plugged into the proposed pre-trained baseline SOD model to handle corresponding tasks, while only requiring few learnable parameters compared to training the entire model. Each modality-aware prompt is generated from a switchable prompt generation block, which adaptively performs structural switching based on single-modal and multi-modal inputs without human intervention. Through end-to-end joint training, UniSOD achieves overall performance improvement on 14 benchmark datasets for RGB, RGB-D, and RGB-T SOD, which demonstrates that our method effectively and efficiently unifies single-modal and multi-modal SOD tasks.The code and results are available at https://github.com/Angknpng/UniSOD.

Adapting Segment Anything Model to Multi-modal Salient Object Detection with Semantic Feature Fusion GuidanceKunpeng Wang, Danying Lin, Chenglong Li et al.
Although most existing multi-modal salient object detection (SOD) methods demonstrate effectiveness through training models from scratch, the limited multi-modal data hinders these methods from reaching optimality. In this paper, we propose a novel framework to explore and exploit the powerful feature representation and zero-shot generalization ability of the pre-trained Segment Anything Model (SAM) for multi-modal SOD. Despite serving as a recent vision fundamental model, driving the class-agnostic SAM to comprehend and detect salient objects accurately is non-trivial, especially in challenging scenes. To this end, we develop \underline{SAM} with se\underline{m}antic f\underline{e}ature fu\underline{s}ion guidanc\underline{e} (Sammese), which incorporates multi-modal saliency-specific knowledge into SAM to adapt SAM to multi-modal SOD tasks. However, it is difficult for SAM trained on single-modal data to directly mine the complementary benefits of multi-modal inputs and comprehensively utilize them to achieve accurate saliency prediction. To address these issues, we first design a multi-modal complementary fusion module to extract robust multi-modal semantic features by integrating information from visible and thermal or depth image pairs. Then, we feed the extracted multi-modal semantic features into both the SAM image encoder and mask decoder for fine-tuning and prompting, respectively. Specifically, in the image encoder, a multi-modal adapter is proposed to adapt the single-modal SAM to multi-modal information. In the mask decoder, a semantic-geometric prompt generation strategy is proposed to produce corresponding embeddings with various saliency cues. Erasure-based Interaction Network for RGBT Video Object Detection and A Unified BenchmarkZhengzheng Tu, Qishun Wang, Hongshun Wang et al.
Recently, many breakthroughs are made in the field of Video Object Detection (VOD), but the performance is still limited due to the imaging limitations of RGB sensors in adverse illumination conditions. To alleviate this issue, this work introduces a new computer vision task called RGB-thermal (RGBT) VOD by introducing the thermal modality that is insensitive to adverse illumination conditions. To promote the research and development of RGBT VOD, we design a novel Erasure-based Interaction Network (EINet) and establish a comprehensive benchmark dataset (VT-VOD50) for this task. Traditional VOD methods often leverage temporal information by using many auxiliary frames, and thus have large computational burden. Considering that thermal images exhibit less noise than RGB ones, we develop a negative activation function that is used to erase the noise of RGB features with the help of thermal image features. Furthermore, with the benefits from thermal images, we rely only on a small temporal window to model the spatio-temporal information to greatly improve efficiency while maintaining detection accuracy. VT-VOD50 dataset consists of 50 pairs of challenging RGBT video sequences with complex backgrounds, various objects and different illuminations, which are collected in real traffic scenarios. Extensive experiments on VT-VOD50 dataset demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed method against existing mainstream VOD methods. The code of EINet and the dataset will be released to the public for free academic usage.

Magic Tokens: Select Diverse Tokens for Multi-modal Object Re-IdentificationPingping Zhang, Yuhao Wang, Yang Liu et al.
Single-modal object re-identification (ReID) faces great challenges in maintaining robustness within complex visual scenarios. In contrast, multi-modal object ReID utilizes complementary information from diverse modalities, showing great potentials for practical applications. However, previous methods may be easily affected by irrelevant backgrounds and usually ignore the modality gaps. To address above issues, we propose a novel learning framework named \textbf{EDITOR} to select diverse tokens from vision Transformers for multi-modal object ReID. We begin with a shared vision Transformer to extract tokenized features from different input modalities. Then, we introduce a Spatial-Frequency Token Selection (SFTS) module to adaptively select object-centric tokens with both spatial and frequency information. Afterwards, we employ a Hierarchical Masked Aggregation (HMA) module to facilitate feature interactions within and across modalities. Finally, to further reduce the effect of backgrounds, we propose a Background Consistency Constraint (BCC) and an Object-Centric Feature Refinement (OCFR). They are formulated as two new loss functions, which improve the feature discrimination with background suppression. As a result, our framework can generate more discriminative features for multi-modal object ReID. Extensive experiments on three multi-modal ReID benchmarks verify the effectiveness of our methods. TOP-ReID: Multi-spectral Object Re-Identification with Token PermutationYuhao Wang, Xuehu Liu, Pingping Zhang et al.
Multi-spectral object Re-identification (ReID) aims to retrieve specific objects by leveraging complementary information from different image spectra. It delivers great advantages over traditional single-spectral ReID in complex visual environment. However, the significant distribution gap among different image spectra poses great challenges for effective multi-spectral feature representations. In addition, most of current Transformer-based ReID methods only utilize the global feature of class tokens to achieve the holistic retrieval, ignoring the local discriminative ones. To address the above issues, we step further to utilize all the tokens of Transformers and propose a cyclic token permutation framework for multi-spectral object ReID, dubbled TOP-ReID. More specifically, we first deploy a multi-stream deep network based on vision Transformers to preserve distinct information from different image spectra. Then, we propose a Token Permutation Module (TPM) for cyclic multi-spectral feature aggregation. It not only facilitates the spatial feature alignment across different image spectra, but also allows the class token of each spectrum to perceive the local details of other spectra. Meanwhile, we propose a Complementary Reconstruction Module (CRM), which introduces dense token-level reconstruction constraints to reduce the distribution gap across different image spectra. With the above modules, our proposed framework can generate more discriminative multi-spectral features for robust object ReID. Extensive experiments on three ReID benchmarks (i.e., RGBNT201, RGBNT100 and MSVR310) verify the effectiveness of our methods. The code is available at https://github.com/924973292/TOP-ReID.

Unity is Strength: Unifying Convolutional and Transformeral Features for Better Person Re-IdentificationYuhao Wang, Pingping Zhang, Xuehu Liu et al.
Person Re-identification (ReID) aims to retrieve the specific person across non-overlapping cameras, which greatly helps intelligent transportation systems. As we all know, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Transformers have the unique strengths to extract local and global features, respectively. Considering this fact, we focus on the mutual fusion between them to learn more comprehensive representations for persons. In particular, we utilize the complementary integration of deep features from different model structures. We propose a novel fusion framework called FusionReID to unify the strengths of CNNs and Transformers for image-based person ReID. More specifically, we first deploy a Dual-branch Feature Extraction (DFE) to extract features through CNNs and Transformers from a single image. Moreover, we design a novel Dual-attention Mutual Fusion (DMF) to achieve sufficient feature fusions. The DMF comprises Local Refinement Units (LRU) and Heterogenous Transmission Modules (HTM). LRU utilizes depth-separable convolutions to align deep features in channel dimensions and spatial sizes. HTM consists of a Shared Encoding Unit (SEU) and two Mutual Fusion Units (MFU). Through the continuous stacking of HTM, deep features after LRU are repeatedly utilized to generate more discriminative features. Extensive experiments on three public ReID benchmarks demonstrate that our method can attain superior performances than most state-of-the-arts. Ultrasound SAM Adapter: Adapting SAM for Breast Lesion Segmentation in Ultrasound ImagesZhengzheng Tu, Le Gu, Xixi Wang et al.
Segment Anything Model (SAM) has recently achieved amazing results in the field of natural image segmentation. However, it is not effective for medical image segmentation, owing to the large domain gap between natural and medical images. In this paper, we mainly focus on ultrasound image segmentation. As we know that it is very difficult to train a foundation model for ultrasound image data due to the lack of large-scale annotated ultrasound image data. To address these issues, in this paper, we develop a novel Breast Ultrasound SAM Adapter, termed Breast Ultrasound Segment Anything Model (BUSSAM), which migrates the SAM to the field of breast ultrasound image segmentation by using the adapter technique. To be specific, we first design a novel CNN image encoder, which is fully trained on the BUS dataset. Our CNN image encoder is more lightweight, and focuses more on features of local receptive field, which provides the complementary information to the ViT branch in SAM. Then, we design a novel Cross-Branch Adapter to allow the CNN image encoder to fully interact with the ViT image encoder in SAM module. Finally, we add both of the Position Adapter and the Feature Adapter to the ViT branch to fine-tune the original SAM. The experimental results on AMUBUS and BUSI datasets demonstrate that our proposed model outperforms other medical image segmentation models significantly. A light field camera can reconstruct 3D scenes using captured multi-focus images that contain rich spatial geometric information, enhancing applications in stereoscopic photography, virtual reality, and robotic vision. In this work, a state-of-the-art salient object detection model for multi-focus light field images, called LFSamba, is introduced to emphasize four main insights: (a) Efficient feature extraction, where SAM is used to extract modality-aware discriminative features; (b) Inter-slice relation modeling, leveraging Mamba to capture long-range dependencies across multiple focal slices, thus extracting implicit depth cues; (c) Inter-modal relation modeling, utilizing Mamba to integrate all-focus and multi-focus images, enabling mutual enhancement; (d) Weakly supervised learning capability, developing a scribble annotation dataset from an existing pixel-level mask dataset, establishing the first scribble-supervised baseline for light field salient object detection.https://github.com/liuzywen/LFScribble

Alignment-Free RGB-T Salient Object Detection: A Large-scale Dataset and Progressive Correlation NetworkKunpeng Wang, Keke Chen, Chenglong Li et al.
Alignment-free RGB-Thermal (RGB-T) salient object detection (SOD) aims to achieve robust performance in complex scenes by directly leveraging the complementary information from unaligned visible-thermal image pairs, without requiring manual alignment. However, the labor-intensive process of collecting and annotating image pairs limits the scale of existing benchmarks, hindering the advancement of alignment-free RGB-T SOD. In this paper, we construct a large-scale and high-diversity unaligned RGB-T SOD dataset named UVT20K, comprising 20,000 image pairs, 407 scenes, and 1256 object categories. All samples are collected from real-world scenarios with various challenges, such as low illumination, image clutter, complex salient objects, and so on. To support the exploration for further research, each sample in UVT20K is annotated with a comprehensive set of ground truths, including saliency masks, scribbles, boundaries, and challenge attributes. In addition, we propose a Progressive Correlation Network (PCNet), which models inter- and intra-modal correlations on the basis of explicit alignment to achieve accurate predictions in unaligned image pairs. Learning Adaptive Fusion Bank for Multi-modal Salient Object DetectionKunpeng Wang, Zhengzheng Tu, Chenglong Li et al.
Multi-modal salient object detection (MSOD) aims to boost saliency detection performance by integrating visible sources with depth or thermal infrared ones. Existing methods generally design different fusion schemes to handle certain issues or challenges. Although these fusion schemes are effective at addressing specific issues or challenges, they may struggle to handle multiple complex challenges simultaneously. To solve this problem, we propose a novel adaptive fusion bank that makes full use of the complementary benefits from a set of basic fusion schemes to handle different challenges simultaneously for robust MSOD. We focus on handling five major challenges in MSOD, namely center bias, scale variation, image clutter, low illumination, and thermal crossover or depth ambiguity. The fusion bank proposed consists of five representative fusion schemes, which are specifically designed based on the characteristics of each challenge, respectively. The bank is scalable, and more fusion schemes could be incorporated into the bank for more challenges. To adaptively select the appropriate fusion scheme for multi-modal input, we introduce an adaptive ensemble module that forms the adaptive fusion bank, which is embedded into hierarchical layers for sufficient fusion of different source data. Moreover, we design an indirect interactive guidance module to accurately detect salient hollow objects via the skip integration of high-level semantic information and low-level spatial details. Extensive experiments on three RGBT datasets and seven RGBD datasets demonstrate that the proposed method achieves the outstanding performance compared to the state-of-the-art methods. Alignment-Free RGBT Salient Object Detection: Semantics-guided Asymmetric Correlation Network and A Unified BenchmarkKunpeng Wang, Danying Lin, Chenglong Li et al.
RGB and Thermal (RGBT) Salient Object Detection (SOD) aims to achieve high-quality saliency prediction by exploiting the complementary information of visible and thermal image pairs, which are initially captured in an unaligned manner. However, existing methods are tailored for manually aligned image pairs, which are labor-intensive, and directly applying these methods to original unaligned image pairs could significantly degrade their performance. In this paper, we make the first attempt to address RGBT SOD for initially captured RGB and thermal image pairs without manual alignment. Specifically, we propose a Semantics-guided Asymmetric Correlation Network (SACNet) that consists of two novel components: 1) an asymmetric correlation module utilizing semantics-guided attention to model cross-modal correlations specific to unaligned salient regions; 2) an associated feature sampling module to sample relevant thermal features according to the corresponding RGB features for multi-modal feature integration. In addition, we construct a unified benchmark dataset called UVT2000, containing 2000 RGB and thermal image pairs directly captured from various real-world scenes without any alignment, to facilitate research on alignment-free RGBT SOD. Extensive experiments on both aligned and unaligned datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and superior performance of our method. Multi-interactive Dual-decoder for RGB-thermal Salient Object DetectionZhengzheng Tu, Zhun Li, Chenglong Li et al.
RGB-thermal salient object detection (SOD) aims to segment the common prominent regions of visible image and corresponding thermal infrared image that we call it RGBT SOD. Existing methods don't fully explore and exploit the potentials of complementarity of different modalities and multi-type cues of image contents, which play a vital role in achieving accurate results. In this paper, we propose a multi-interactive dual-decoder to mine and model the multi-type interactions for accurate RGBT SOD. In specific, we first encode two modalities into multi-level multi-modal feature representations. Then, we design a novel dual-decoder to conduct the interactions of multi-level features, two modalities and global contexts. With these interactions, our method works well in diversely challenging scenarios even in the presence of invalid modality. Finally, we carry out extensive experiments on public RGBT and RGBD SOD datasets, and the results show that the proposed method achieves the outstanding performance against state-of-the-art algorithms. Compositional-Degradation UAV Image Restoration: Conditional Decoupled MoE Network and A BenchmarkJinquan Yan, Zhicheng Zhao, Zhengzheng Tu et al.
UAV images are critical for applications such as large-area mapping, infrastructure inspection, and emergency response. However, in real-world flight environments, a single image is often affected by multiple degradation factors, including rain, haze, and noise, undermining downstream task performance. Current unified restoration approaches typically rely on implicit degradation representations that entangle multiple factors into a single condition, causing mutual interference among heterogeneous corrections. To this end, we propose DAME-Net, a Degradation-Aware Mixture-of-Experts Network that decouples explicit degradation perception from degradation-conditioned reconstruction for compositional UAV image restoration. Specifically, we design a Factor-wise Degradation Perception module(FDPM) to provide explicit per-factor degradation cues for the restoration stage through multi-label prediction with label-similarity-guided soft alignment, replacing implicit entangled conditions with interpretable and generalizable degradation descriptions. Moreover, we develop a Conditioned Decoupled MoE module(CDMM) that leverages these cues for stage-wise conditioning, spatial-frequency hybrid processing, and mask-constrained decoupled expert routing, enabling selective factor-specific correction while suppressing irrelevant interference. In addition, we construct the Multi-Degradation UAV Restoration benchmark (MDUR), the first large-scale UAV benchmark for compositional UAV image restoration, with 43 degradation configurations from single degradations to four-factor composites and standardized seen/unseen splits.Extensive experiments on MDUR demonstrate consistent improvements over representative unified restoration methods, with greater gains on unseen and higher-order composite degradations. Downstream experiments further validate benefits for UAV object detection.

Mixture of Scale Experts for Alignment-free RGBT Video Object Detection and A Unified BenchmarkQishun Wang, Zhengzheng Tu, Kunpeng Wang et al.
Existing RGB-Thermal Video Object Detection (RGBT VOD) methods predominantly rely on the manual alignment of image pairs, that is both labor-intensive and time-consuming. This dependency significantly restricts the scalability and practical applicability of these methods in real-world scenarios. To address this critical limitation, we propose a novel framework termed the Mixture of Scale Experts Network (MSENet). MSENet integrates multiple experts trained at different perceptual scales, enabling the capture of scale discrepancies between RGB and thermal image pairs without the need for explicit alignment. Specifically, to address the issue of unaligned scales, MSENet introduces a set of experts designed to perceive the correlation between RGBT image pairs across various scales. These experts are capable of identifying and quantifying the scale differences inherent in the image pairs. Subsequently, a dynamic routing mechanism is incorporated to assign adaptive weights to each expert, allowing the network to dynamically select the most appropriate experts based on the specific characteristics of the input data. Furthermore, to address the issue of weakly unaligned positions, we integrate deformable convolution into the network. Deformable convolution is employed to learn position displacements between the RGB and thermal modalities, thereby mitigating the impact of spatial misalignment. To provide a comprehensive evaluation platform for alignment-free RGBT VOD, we introduce a new benchmark dataset. This dataset includes eleven common object categories, with a total of 60,988 images and 271,835 object instances. The dataset encompasses a wide range of scenes from both daily life and natural environments, ensuring high content diversity and complexity.

A Spatial-Temporal Progressive Fusion Network for Breast Lesion Segmentation in Ultrasound VideosZhengzheng Tu, Zigang Zhu, Yayang Duan et al.
Ultrasound video-based breast lesion segmentation provides a valuable assistance in early breast lesion detection and treatment. However, existing works mainly focus on lesion segmentation based on ultrasound breast images which usually can not be adapted well to obtain desirable results on ultrasound videos. The main challenge for ultrasound video-based breast lesion segmentation is how to exploit the lesion cues of both intra-frame and inter-frame simultaneously. To address this problem, we propose a novel Spatial-Temporal Progressive Fusion Network (STPFNet) for video based breast lesion segmentation problem. The main aspects of the proposed STPFNet are threefold. First, we propose to adopt a unified network architecture to capture both spatial dependences within each ultrasound frame and temporal correlations between different frames together for ultrasound data representation. Second, we propose a new fusion module, termed Multi-Scale Feature Fusion (MSFF), to fuse spatial and temporal cues together for lesion detection. MSFF can help to determine the boundary contour of lesion region to overcome the issue of lesion boundary blurring. Third, we propose to exploit the segmentation result of previous frame as the prior knowledge to suppress the noisy background and learn more robust representation. In particular, we introduce a new publicly available ultrasound video breast lesion segmentation dataset, termed UVBLS200, which is specifically dedicated to breast lesion segmentation. It contains 200 videos, including 80 videos of benign lesions and 120 videos of malignant lesions. Experiments on the proposed dataset demonstrate that the proposed STPFNet achieves better breast lesion detection performance than state-of-the-art methods.

SAMSOD: Rethinking SAM Optimization for RGB-T Salient Object DetectionZhengyi Liu, Xinrui Wang, Xianyong Fang et al.
RGB-T salient object detection (SOD) aims to segment attractive objects by combining RGB and thermal infrared images. To enhance performance, the Segment Anything Model has been fine-tuned for this task. However, the imbalance convergence of two modalities and significant gradient difference between high- and low- activations are ignored, thereby leaving room for further performance enhancement. In this paper, we propose a model called \textit{SAMSOD}, which utilizes unimodal supervision to enhance the learning of non-dominant modality and employs gradient deconfliction to reduce the impact of conflicting gradients on model convergence. The method also leverages two decoupled adapters to separately mask high- and low-activation neurons, emphasizing foreground objects by enhancing background learning. Fundamental experiments on RGB-T SOD benchmark datasets and generalizability experiments on scribble supervised RGB-T SOD, fully supervised RGB-D SOD datasets and full-supervised RGB-D rail surface defect detection all demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.

Multimodal Spatio-temporal Graph Learning for Alignment-free RGBT Video Object DetectionQishun Wang, Zhengzheng Tu, Chenglong Li et al.
RGB-Thermal Video Object Detection (RGBT VOD) can address the limitation of traditional RGB-based VOD in challenging lighting conditions, making it more practical and effective in many applications. However, similar to most RGBT fusion tasks, it still mainly relies on manually aligned multimodal image pairs. In this paper, we propose a novel Multimodal Spatio-temporal Graph learning Network (MSGNet) for alignment-free RGBT VOD problem by leveraging the robust graph representation learning model. Specifically, we first design an Adaptive Partitioning Layer (APL) to estimate the corresponding regions of the Thermal image within the RGB image (high-resolution), achieving a preliminary inexact alignment. Then, we introduce the Spatial Sparse Graph Learning Module (S-SGLM) which employs a sparse information passing mechanism on the estimated inexact alignment to achieve reliable information interaction between different modalities. Moreover, to fully exploit the temporal cues for RGBT VOD problem, we introduce Hybrid Structured Temporal Modeling (HSTM), which involves a Temporal Sparse Graph Learning Module (T-SGLM) and Temporal Star Block (TSB). T-SGLM aims to filter out some redundant information between adjacent frames by employing the sparse aggregation mechanism on the temporal graph. Meanwhile, TSB is dedicated to achieving the complementary learning of local spatial relationships. Extensive comparative experiments conducted on both the aligned dataset VT-VOD50 and the unaligned dataset UVT-VOD2024 demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of our proposed method. TriTransNet: RGB-D Salient Object Detection with a Triplet Transformer Embedding NetworkZhengyi Liu, Yuan Wang, Zhengzheng Tu et al.
Salient object detection is the pixel-level dense prediction task which can highlight the prominent object in the scene. Recently U-Net framework is widely used, and continuous convolution and pooling operations generate multi-level features which are complementary with each other. In view of the more contribution of high-level features for the performance, we propose a triplet transformer embedding module to enhance them by learning long-range dependencies across layers. It is the first to use three transformer encoders with shared weights to enhance multi-level features. By further designing scale adjustment module to process the input, devising three-stream decoder to process the output and attaching depth features to color features for the multi-modal fusion, the proposed triplet transformer embedding network (TriTransNet) achieves the state-of-the-art performance in RGB-D salient object detection, and pushes the performance to a new level. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed modules and the competition of TriTransNet.

RGBT Salient Object Detection: A Large-scale Dataset and BenchmarkZhengzheng Tu, Yan Ma, Zhun Li et al.
Salient object detection in complex scenes and environments is a challenging research topic. Most works focus on RGB-based salient object detection, which limits its performance of real-life applications when confronted with adverse conditions such as dark environments and complex backgrounds. Taking advantage of RGB and thermal infrared images becomes a new research direction for detecting salient object in complex scenes recently, as thermal infrared spectrum imaging provides the complementary information and has been applied to many computer vision tasks. However, current research for RGBT salient object detection is limited by the lack of a large-scale dataset and comprehensive benchmark. This work contributes such a RGBT image dataset named VT5000, including 5000 spatially aligned RGBT image pairs with ground truth annotations. VT5000 has 11 challenges collected in different scenes and environments for exploring the robustness of algorithms. With this dataset, we propose a powerful baseline approach, which extracts multi-level features within each modality and aggregates these features of all modalities with the attention mechanism, for accurate RGBT salient object detection. Extensive experiments show that the proposed baseline approach outperforms the state-of-the-art methods on VT5000 dataset and other two public datasets. In addition, we carry out a comprehensive analysis of different algorithms of RGBT salient object detection on VT5000 dataset, and then make several valuable conclusions and provide some potential research directions for RGBT salient object detection.

M$^5$L: Multi-Modal Multi-Margin Metric Learning for RGBT TrackingZhengzheng Tu, Chun Lin, Chenglong Li et al.
Classifying the confusing samples in the course of RGBT tracking is a quite challenging problem, which hasn't got satisfied solution. Existing methods only focus on enlarging the boundary between positive and negative samples, however, the structured information of samples might be harmed, e.g., confusing positive samples are closer to the anchor than normal positive samples.To handle this problem, we propose a novel Multi-Modal Multi-Margin Metric Learning framework, named M$^5$L for RGBT tracking in this paper. In particular, we design a multi-margin structured loss to distinguish the confusing samples which play a most critical role in tracking performance boosting. To alleviate this problem, we additionally enlarge the boundaries between confusing positive samples and normal ones, between confusing negative samples and normal ones with predefined margins, by exploiting the structured information of all samples in each modality.Moreover, a cross-modality constraint is employed to reduce the difference between modalities and push positive samples closer to the anchor than negative ones from two modalities.In addition, to achieve quality-aware RGB and thermal feature fusion, we introduce the modality attentions and learn them using a feature fusion module in our network. Extensive experiments on large-scale datasets testify that our framework clearly improves the tracking performance and outperforms the state-of-the-art RGBT trackers.

Edge-guided Non-local Fully Convolutional Network for Salient Object DetectionZhengzheng Tu, Yan Ma, Chenglong Li et al.
Fully Convolutional Neural Network (FCN) has been widely applied to salient object detection recently by virtue of high-level semantic feature extraction, but existing FCN based methods still suffer from continuous striding and pooling operations leading to loss of spatial structure and blurred edges. To maintain the clear edge structure of salient objects, we propose a novel Edge-guided Non-local FCN (ENFNet) to perform edge guided feature learning for accurate salient object detection. In a specific, we extract hierarchical global and local information in FCN to incorporate non-local features for effective feature representations. To preserve good boundaries of salient objects, we propose a guidance block to embed edge prior knowledge into hierarchical feature maps. The guidance block not only performs feature-wise manipulation but also spatial-wise transformation for effective edge embeddings. Our model is trained on the MSRA-B dataset and tested on five popular benchmark datasets. Comparing with the state-of-the-art methods, the proposed method achieves the best performance on all datasets.

Multi-Adapter RGBT TrackingChenglong Li, Andong Lu, Aihua Zheng et al.
The task of RGBT tracking aims to take the complementary advantages from visible spectrum and thermal infrared data to achieve robust visual tracking, and receives more and more attention in recent years. Existing works focus on modality-specific information integration by introducing modality weights to achieve adaptive fusion or learning robust feature representations of different modalities. Although these methods could effectively deploy the modality-specific properties, they ignore the potential values of modality-shared cues as well as instance-aware information, which are crucial for effective fusion of different modalities in RGBT tracking. In this paper, we propose a novel Multi-Adapter convolutional Network (MANet) to jointly perform modality-shared, modality-specific and instance-aware feature learning in an end-to-end trained deep framework for RGBT tracking. We design three kinds of adapters within our network. In a specific, the generality adapter is to extract shared object representations, the modality adapter aims at encoding modality-specific information to deploy their complementary advantages, and the instance adapter is to model the appearance properties and temporal variations of a certain object. Moreover, to reduce computational complexity for real-time demand of visual tracking, we design a parallel structure of generic adapter and modality adapter. Extensive experiments on two RGBT tracking benchmark datasets demonstrate the outstanding performance of the proposed tracker against other state-of-the-art RGB and RGBT tracking algorithms.

RGB-T Image Saliency Detection via Collaborative Graph LearningZhengzheng Tu, Tian Xia, Chenglong Li et al.
Image saliency detection is an active research topic in the community of computer vision and multimedia. Fusing complementary RGB and thermal infrared data has been proven to be effective for image saliency detection. In this paper, we propose an effective approach for RGB-T image saliency detection. Our approach relies on a novel collaborative graph learning algorithm. In particular, we take superpixels as graph nodes, and collaboratively use hierarchical deep features to jointly learn graph affinity and node saliency in a unified optimization framework. Moreover, we contribute a more challenging dataset for the purpose of RGB-T image saliency detection, which contains 1000 spatially aligned RGB-T image pairs and their ground truth annotations. Extensive experiments on the public dataset and the newly created dataset suggest that the proposed approach performs favorably against the state-of-the-art RGB-T saliency detection methods.
