Evaluating Point Cloud from Moving Camera Videos: A No-Reference MetricZicheng Zhang, Wei Sun, Yucheng Zhu et al.
Point cloud is one of the most widely used digital representation formats for three-dimensional (3D) contents, the visual quality of which may suffer from noise and geometric shift distortions during the production procedure as well as compression and downsampling distortions during the transmission process. To tackle the challenge of point cloud quality assessment (PCQA), many PCQA methods have been proposed to evaluate the visual quality levels of point clouds by assessing the rendered static 2D projections. Although such projection-based PCQA methods achieve competitive performance with the assistance of mature image quality assessment (IQA) methods, they neglect that the 3D model is also perceived in a dynamic viewing manner, where the viewpoint is continually changed according to the feedback of the rendering device. Therefore, in this paper, we evaluate the point clouds from moving camera videos and explore the way of dealing with PCQA tasks via using video quality assessment (VQA) methods. First, we generate the captured videos by rotating the camera around the point clouds through several circular pathways. Then we extract both spatial and temporal quality-aware features from the selected key frames and the video clips through using trainable 2D-CNN and pre-trained 3D-CNN models respectively. Finally, the visual quality of point clouds is represented by the video quality values. The experimental results reveal that the proposed method is effective for predicting the visual quality levels of the point clouds and even competitive with full-reference (FR) PCQA methods. The ablation studies further verify the rationality of the proposed framework and confirm the contributions made by the quality-aware features extracted via the dynamic viewing manner. Perceptual Quality Assessment of Omnidirectional Audio-visual SignalsXilei Zhu, Huiyu Duan, Yuqin Cao et al.
Omnidirectional videos (ODVs) play an increasingly important role in the application fields of medical, education, advertising, tourism, etc. Assessing the quality of ODVs is significant for service-providers to improve the user's Quality of Experience (QoE). However, most existing quality assessment studies for ODVs only focus on the visual distortions of videos, while ignoring that the overall QoE also depends on the accompanying audio signals. In this paper, we first establish a large-scale audio-visual quality assessment dataset for omnidirectional videos, which includes 375 distorted omnidirectional audio-visual (A/V) sequences generated from 15 high-quality pristine omnidirectional A/V contents, and the corresponding perceptual audio-visual quality scores. Then, we design three baseline methods for full-reference omnidirectional audio-visual quality assessment (OAVQA), which combine existing state-of-the-art single-mode audio and video QA models via multimodal fusion strategies. We validate the effectiveness of the A/V multimodal fusion method for OAVQA on our dataset, which provides a new benchmark for omnidirectional QoE evaluation. Skeleton2Humanoid: Animating Simulated Characters for Physically-plausible Motion In-betweeningYunhao Li, Zhenbo Yu, Yucheng Zhu et al.
Human motion synthesis is a long-standing problem with various applications in digital twins and the Metaverse. However, modern deep learning based motion synthesis approaches barely consider the physical plausibility of synthesized motions and consequently they usually produce unrealistic human motions. In order to solve this problem, we propose a system ``Skeleton2Humanoid'' which performs physics-oriented motion correction at test time by regularizing synthesized skeleton motions in a physics simulator. Concretely, our system consists of three sequential stages: (I) test time motion synthesis network adaptation, (II) skeleton to humanoid matching and (III) motion imitation based on reinforcement learning (RL). Stage I introduces a test time adaptation strategy, which improves the physical plausibility of synthesized human skeleton motions by optimizing skeleton joint locations. Stage II performs an analytical inverse kinematics strategy, which converts the optimized human skeleton motions to humanoid robot motions in a physics simulator, then the converted humanoid robot motions can be served as reference motions for the RL policy to imitate. Stage III introduces a curriculum residual force control policy, which drives the humanoid robot to mimic complex converted reference motions in accordance with the physical law. We verify our system on a typical human motion synthesis task, motion-in-betweening. Experiments on the challenging LaFAN1 dataset show our system can outperform prior methods significantly in terms of both physical plausibility and accuracy. Perceptual Quality Assessment of Omnidirectional ImagesHuiyu Duan, Guangtao Zhai, Xiongkuo Min et al.
Omnidirectional images and videos can provide immersive experience of real-world scenes in Virtual Reality (VR) environment. We present a perceptual omnidirectional image quality assessment (IQA) study in this paper since it is extremely important to provide a good quality of experience under the VR environment. We first establish an omnidirectional IQA (OIQA) database, which includes 16 source images and 320 distorted images degraded by 4 commonly encountered distortion types, namely JPEG compression, JPEG2000 compression, Gaussian blur and Gaussian noise. Then a subjective quality evaluation study is conducted on the OIQA database in the VR environment. Considering that humans can only see a part of the scene at one movement in the VR environment, visual attention becomes extremely important. Thus we also track head and eye movement data during the quality rating experiments. The original and distorted omnidirectional images, subjective quality ratings, and the head and eye movement data together constitute the OIQA database. State-of-the-art full-reference (FR) IQA measures are tested on the OIQA database, and some new observations different from traditional IQA are made.

Confusing Image Quality Assessment: Towards Better Augmented Reality ExperienceHuiyu Duan, Xiongkuo Min, Yucheng Zhu et al.
With the development of multimedia technology, Augmented Reality (AR) has become a promising next-generation mobile platform. The primary value of AR is to promote the fusion of digital contents and real-world environments, however, studies on how this fusion will influence the Quality of Experience (QoE) of these two components are lacking. To achieve better QoE of AR, whose two layers are influenced by each other, it is important to evaluate its perceptual quality first. In this paper, we consider AR technology as the superimposition of virtual scenes and real scenes, and introduce visual confusion as its basic theory. A more general problem is first proposed, which is evaluating the perceptual quality of superimposed images, i.e., confusing image quality assessment. A ConFusing Image Quality Assessment (CFIQA) database is established, which includes 600 reference images and 300 distorted images generated by mixing reference images in pairs. Then a subjective quality perception study and an objective model evaluation experiment are conducted towards attaining a better understanding of how humans perceive the confusing images. An objective metric termed CFIQA is also proposed to better evaluate the confusing image quality. Moreover, an extended ARIQA study is further conducted based on the CFIQA study. We establish an ARIQA database to better simulate the real AR application scenarios, which contains 20 AR reference images, 20 background (BG) reference images, and 560 distorted images generated from AR and BG references, as well as the correspondingly collected subjective quality ratings. We also design three types of full-reference (FR) IQA metrics to study whether we should consider the visual confusion when designing corresponding IQA algorithms. An ARIQA metric is finally proposed for better evaluating the perceptual quality of AR images.

EEP-3DQA: Efficient and Effective Projection-based 3D Model Quality AssessmentZicheng Zhang, Wei Sun, Yingjie Zhou et al.
Currently, great numbers of efforts have been put into improving the effectiveness of 3D model quality assessment (3DQA) methods. However, little attention has been paid to the computational costs and inference time, which is also important for practical applications. Unlike 2D media, 3D models are represented by more complicated and irregular digital formats, such as point cloud and mesh. Thus it is normally difficult to perform an efficient module to extract quality-aware features of 3D models. In this paper, we address this problem from the aspect of projection-based 3DQA and develop a no-reference (NR) \underline{E}fficient and \underline{E}ffective \underline{P}rojection-based \underline{3D} Model \underline{Q}uality \underline{A}ssessment (\textbf{EEP-3DQA}) method. The input projection images of EEP-3DQA are randomly sampled from the six perpendicular viewpoints of the 3D model and are further spatially downsampled by the grid-mini patch sampling strategy. Further, the lightweight Swin-Transformer tiny is utilized as the backbone to extract the quality-aware features. Finally, the proposed EEP-3DQA and EEP-3DQA-t (tiny version) achieve the best performance than the existing state-of-the-art NR-3DQA methods and even outperforms most full-reference (FR) 3DQA methods on the point cloud and mesh quality assessment databases while consuming less inference time than the compared 3DQA methods.

Audio-visual Saliency for Omnidirectional VideosYuxin Zhu, Xilei Zhu, Huiyu Duan et al.
Visual saliency prediction for omnidirectional videos (ODVs) has shown great significance and necessity for omnidirectional videos to help ODV coding, ODV transmission, ODV rendering, etc.. However, most studies only consider visual information for ODV saliency prediction while audio is rarely considered despite its significant influence on the viewing behavior of ODV. This is mainly due to the lack of large-scale audio-visual ODV datasets and corresponding analysis. Thus, in this paper, we first establish the largest audio-visual saliency dataset for omnidirectional videos (AVS-ODV), which comprises the omnidirectional videos, audios, and corresponding captured eye-tracking data for three video sound modalities including mute, mono, and ambisonics. Then we analyze the visual attention behavior of the observers under various omnidirectional audio modalities and visual scenes based on the AVS-ODV dataset. Furthermore, we compare the performance of several state-of-the-art saliency prediction models on the AVS-ODV dataset and construct a new benchmark. Our AVS-ODV datasets and the benchmark will be released to facilitate future research.

How Does Audio Influence Visual Attention in Omnidirectional Videos? Database and ModelYuxin Zhu, Huiyu Duan, Kaiwei Zhang et al.
Understanding and predicting viewer attention in omnidirectional videos (ODVs) is crucial for enhancing user engagement in virtual and augmented reality applications. Although both audio and visual modalities are essential for saliency prediction in ODVs, the joint exploitation of these two modalities has been limited, primarily due to the absence of large-scale audio-visual saliency databases and comprehensive analyses. This paper comprehensively investigates audio-visual attention in ODVs from both subjective and objective perspectives. Specifically, we first introduce a new audio-visual saliency database for omnidirectional videos, termed AVS-ODV database, containing 162 ODVs and corresponding eye movement data collected from 60 subjects under three audio modes including mute, mono, and ambisonics. Based on the constructed AVS-ODV database, we perform an in-depth analysis of how audio influences visual attention in ODVs. To advance the research on audio-visual saliency prediction for ODVs, we further establish a new benchmark based on the AVS-ODV database by testing numerous state-of-the-art saliency models, including visual-only models and audio-visual models. In addition, given the limitations of current models, we propose an innovative omnidirectional audio-visual saliency prediction network (OmniAVS), which is built based on the U-Net architecture, and hierarchically fuses audio and visual features from the multimodal aligned embedding space. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed OmniAVS model outperforms other state-of-the-art models on both ODV AVS prediction and traditional AVS predcition tasks. The AVS-ODV database and OmniAVS model will be released to facilitate future research.

SG-JND: Semantic-Guided Just Noticeable Distortion Predictor For Image CompressionLinhan Cao, Wei Sun, Xiongkuo Min et al.
Just noticeable distortion (JND), representing the threshold of distortion in an image that is minimally perceptible to the human visual system (HVS), is crucial for image compression algorithms to achieve a trade-off between transmission bit rate and image quality. However, traditional JND prediction methods only rely on pixel-level or sub-band level features, lacking the ability to capture the impact of image content on JND. To bridge this gap, we propose a Semantic-Guided JND (SG-JND) network to leverage semantic information for JND prediction. In particular, SG-JND consists of three essential modules: the image preprocessing module extracts semantic-level patches from images, the feature extraction module extracts multi-layer features by utilizing the cross-scale attention layers, and the JND prediction module regresses the extracted features into the final JND value. Experimental results show that SG-JND achieves the state-of-the-art performance on two publicly available JND datasets, which demonstrates the effectiveness of SG-JND and highlight the significance of incorporating semantic information in JND assessment.

Market-Bench: Benchmarking Large Language Models on Economic and Trade CompetitionYushuo Zheng, Huiyu Duan, Zicheng Zhang et al.
The ability of large language models (LLMs) to manage and acquire economic resources remains unclear. In this paper, we introduce \textbf{Market-Bench}, a comprehensive benchmark that evaluates the capabilities of LLMs in economically-relevant tasks through economic and trade competition. Specifically, we construct a configurable multi-agent supply chain economic model where LLMs act as retailer agents responsible for procuring and retailing merchandise. In the \textbf{procurement} stage, LLMs bid for limited inventory in budget-constrained auctions. In the \textbf{retail} stage, LLMs set retail prices, generate marketing slogans, and provide them to buyers through a role-based attention mechanism for purchase. Market-Bench logs complete trajectories of bids, prices, slogans, sales, and balance-sheet states, enabling automatic evaluation with economic, operational, and semantic metrics. Benchmarking on 20 open- and closed-source LLM agents reveals significant performance disparities and winner-take-most phenomenon, \textit{i.e.}, only a small subset of LLM retailers can consistently achieve capital appreciation, while many hover around the break-even point despite similar semantic matching scores. Market-Bench provides a reproducible testbed for studying how LLMs interact in competitive markets.

Enhancing Image Quality Assessment Ability of LMMs via Retrieval-Augmented GenerationKang Fu, Huiyu Duan, Zicheng Zhang et al.
Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) have recently shown remarkable promise in low-level visual perception tasks, particularly in Image Quality Assessment (IQA), demonstrating strong zero-shot capability. However, achieving state-of-the-art performance often requires computationally expensive fine-tuning methods, which aim to align the distribution of quality-related token in output with image quality levels. Inspired by recent training-free works for LMM, we introduce IQARAG, a novel, training-free framework that enhances LMMs' IQA ability. IQARAG leverages Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to retrieve some semantically similar but quality-variant reference images with corresponding Mean Opinion Scores (MOSs) for input image. These retrieved images and input image are integrated into a specific prompt. Retrieved images provide the LMM with a visual perception anchor for IQA task. IQARAG contains three key phases: Retrieval Feature Extraction, Image Retrieval, and Integration & Quality Score Generation. Extensive experiments across multiple diverse IQA datasets, including KADID, KonIQ, LIVE Challenge, and SPAQ, demonstrate that the proposed IQARAG effectively boosts the IQA performance of LMMs, offering a resource-efficient alternative to fine-tuning for quality assessment.

Robust Mesh Saliency Ground Truth Acquisition in VR via View Cone Sampling and Manifold DiffusionGuoquan Zheng, Jie Hao, Huiyu Duan et al.
As the complexity of 3D digital content grows exponentially, understanding human visual attention is critical for optimizing rendering and processing resources. Therefore, reliable 3D mesh saliency ground truth (GT) is essential for human-centric visual modeling in virtual reality (VR). However, existing VR eye-tracking frameworks are fundamentally bottlenecked by their underlying acquisition and generation mechanisms. The reliance on zero-area single ray sampling (SRS) fails to capture contextual features, leading to severe texture aliasing and discontinuous saliency signals. And the conventional application of Euclidean smoothing propagates saliency across disconnected physical gaps, resulting in semantic confusion on complex 3D manifolds. This paper proposes a robust framework to address these limitations. We first introduce a view cone sampling (VCS) strategy, which simulates the human foveal receptive field via Gaussian-distributed ray bundles to improve sampling robustness for complex topologies. Furthermore, a hybrid Manifold-Euclidean constrained diffusion (HCD) algorithm is developed, fusing manifold geodesic constraints with Euclidean scales to ensure topologically-consistent saliency propagation. We demonstrate the improvement in performance over baseline methods and the benefits for downstream tasks through subjective experiments and qualitative and quantitative methods. By mitigating "topological short-circuits" and aliasing, our framework provides a high-fidelity 3D attention acquisition paradigm that aligns with natural human perception, offering a more accurate and robust baseline for 3D mesh saliency research.

NTIRE 2025 Challenge on Short-form UGC Video Quality Assessment and Enhancement: Methods and ResultsXin Li, Kun Yuan, Bingchen Li et al.
This paper presents a review for the NTIRE 2025 Challenge on Short-form UGC Video Quality Assessment and Enhancement. The challenge comprises two tracks: (i) Efficient Video Quality Assessment (KVQ), and (ii) Diffusion-based Image Super-Resolution (KwaiSR). Track 1 aims to advance the development of lightweight and efficient video quality assessment (VQA) models, with an emphasis on eliminating reliance on model ensembles, redundant weights, and other computationally expensive components in the previous IQA/VQA competitions. Track 2 introduces a new short-form UGC dataset tailored for single image super-resolution, i.e., the KwaiSR dataset. It consists of 1,800 synthetically generated S-UGC image pairs and 1,900 real-world S-UGC images, which are split into training, validation, and test sets using a ratio of 8:1:1. The primary objective of the challenge is to drive research that benefits the user experience of short-form UGC platforms such as Kwai and TikTok. This challenge attracted 266 participants and received 18 valid final submissions with corresponding fact sheets, significantly contributing to the progress of short-form UGC VQA and image superresolution. Omni$^2$: Unifying Omnidirectional Image Generation and Editing in an Omni ModelLiu Yang, Huiyu Duan, Yucheng Zhu et al.
$360^{\circ}$ omnidirectional images (ODIs) have gained considerable attention recently, and are widely used in various virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) applications. However, capturing such images is expensive and requires specialized equipment, making ODI synthesis increasingly important. While common 2D image generation and editing methods are rapidly advancing, these models struggle to deliver satisfactory results when generating or editing ODIs due to the unique format and broad 360$^{\circ}$ Field-of-View (FoV) of ODIs. To bridge this gap, we construct \textbf{\textit{Any2Omni}}, the first comprehensive ODI generation-editing dataset comprises 60,000+ training data covering diverse input conditions and up to 9 ODI generation and editing tasks. Built upon Any2Omni, we propose an \textbf{\underline{Omni}} model for \textbf{\underline{Omni}}-directional image generation and editing (\textbf{\textit{Omni$^2$}}), with the capability of handling various ODI generation and editing tasks under diverse input conditions using one model. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed Omni$^2$ model for both the ODI generation and editing tasks. Can Large Models Fool the Eye? A New Turing Test for Biological AnimationZijian Chen, Lirong Deng, Zhengyu Chen et al.
Evaluating the abilities of large models and manifesting their gaps are challenging. Current benchmarks adopt either ground-truth-based score-form evaluation on static datasets or indistinct textual chatbot-style human preferences collection, which may not provide users with immediate, intuitive, and perceptible feedback on performance differences. In this paper, we introduce BioMotion Arena, a novel framework for evaluating large language models (LLMs) and multimodal large language models (MLLMs) via visual animation. Our methodology draws inspiration from the inherent visual perception of motion patterns characteristic of living organisms that utilizes point-light source imaging to amplify the performance discrepancies between models. Specifically, we employ a pairwise comparison evaluation and collect more than 45k votes for 53 mainstream LLMs and MLLMs on 90 biological motion variants. Data analyses show that the crowd-sourced human votes are in good agreement with those of expert raters, demonstrating the superiority of our BioMotion Arena in offering discriminative feedback. We also find that over 90\% of evaluated models, including the cutting-edge open-source InternVL3 and proprietary Claude-4 series, fail to produce fundamental humanoid point-light groups, much less smooth and biologically plausible motions. This enables BioMotion Arena to serve as a challenging benchmark for performance visualization and a flexible evaluation framework without restrictions on ground-truth.

ESVQA: Perceptual Quality Assessment of Egocentric Spatial VideosXilei Zhu, Huiyu Duan, Liu Yang et al.
With the rapid development of eXtended Reality (XR), egocentric spatial shooting and display technologies have further enhanced immersion and engagement for users, delivering more captivating and interactive experiences. Assessing the quality of experience (QoE) of egocentric spatial videos is crucial to ensure a high-quality viewing experience. However, the corresponding research is still lacking. In this paper, we use the concept of embodied experience to highlight this more immersive experience and study the new problem, i.e., embodied perceptual quality assessment for egocentric spatial videos. Specifically, we introduce the first Egocentric Spatial Video Quality Assessment Database (ESVQAD), which comprises 600 egocentric spatial videos captured using the Apple Vision Pro and their corresponding mean opinion scores (MOSs). Furthermore, we propose a novel multi-dimensional binocular feature fusion model, termed ESVQAnet, which integrates binocular spatial, motion, and semantic features to predict the overall perceptual quality. Experimental results demonstrate the ESVQAnet significantly outperforms 16 state-of-the-art VQA models on the embodied perceptual quality assessment task, and exhibits strong generalization capability on traditional VQA tasks. Perceptual Video Quality Assessment: A SurveyXiongkuo Min, Huiyu Duan, Wei Sun et al.
Perceptual video quality assessment plays a vital role in the field of video processing due to the existence of quality degradations introduced in various stages of video signal acquisition, compression, transmission and display. With the advancement of internet communication and cloud service technology, video content and traffic are growing exponentially, which further emphasizes the requirement for accurate and rapid assessment of video quality. Therefore, numerous subjective and objective video quality assessment studies have been conducted over the past two decades for both generic videos and specific videos such as streaming, user-generated content (UGC), 3D, virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR), high frame rate (HFR), audio-visual, etc. This survey provides an up-to-date and comprehensive review of these video quality assessment studies. Specifically, we first review the subjective video quality assessment methodologies and databases, which are necessary for validating the performance of video quality metrics. Second, the objective video quality assessment algorithms for general purposes are surveyed and concluded according to the methodologies utilized in the quality measures. Third, we overview the objective video quality assessment measures for specific applications and emerging topics. Finally, the performances of the state-of-the-art video quality assessment measures are compared and analyzed. This survey provides a systematic overview of both classical works and recent progresses in the realm of video quality assessment, which can help other researchers quickly access the field and conduct relevant research.

Generative Inverse Design of Cold Metals for Low-Power ElectronicsKedeng Wu, Yucheng Zhu, Yan Chen et al.
Cold metals are a class of metals with an intrinsic energy gap located close to the Fermi level, which enables cold-carrier injection for steep-slope transistors and is therefore promising for low-power electronic applications. High-throughput screening has revealed 252 three-dimensional (3D) cold metals in the Materials Project database, but database searches are inherently limited to known compounds. Here we present an inverse-design workflow that generates 3D cold metals using MatterGPT, a conditional autoregressive Transformer trained on SLICES, an invertible and symmetry-invariant crystal string representation. We curate a training set of 26,309 metallic structures labeled with energy above hull and a unified band-edge distance descriptor that merges p-type and n-type cold-metal characteristics to address severe label imbalance. Property-conditioned generation targeting thermodynamic stability and 50-500 meV band-edge distances produces 148,506 unique candidates; 92.1% are successfully reconstructed to 3D structures and down-selected by symmetry, uniqueness and novelty filters, followed by high-throughput DFT validation. We identify 257 cold metals verified as novel with respect to the Materials Project database, with gaps around the Fermi level spanning 50-500 meV. First-principles phonon, electronic-structure, and work-function calculations for representative candidates confirm dynamical stability and contact-relevant work functions. Our results demonstrate that SLICES-enabled generative transformers can expand the chemical space of cold metals beyond high-throughput screening, providing a route to low-power electronic materials discovery.

AIGCOIQA2024: Perceptual Quality Assessment of AI Generated Omnidirectional ImagesLiu Yang, Huiyu Duan, Long Teng et al.
In recent years, the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) has attracted widespread attention. Among the AIGC, AI generated omnidirectional images hold significant potential for Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) applications, hence omnidirectional AIGC techniques have also been widely studied. AI-generated omnidirectional images exhibit unique distortions compared to natural omnidirectional images, however, there is no dedicated Image Quality Assessment (IQA) criteria for assessing them. This study addresses this gap by establishing a large-scale AI generated omnidirectional image IQA database named AIGCOIQA2024 and constructing a comprehensive benchmark. We first generate 300 omnidirectional images based on 5 AIGC models utilizing 25 text prompts. A subjective IQA experiment is conducted subsequently to assess human visual preferences from three perspectives including quality, comfortability, and correspondence. Finally, we conduct a benchmark experiment to evaluate the performance of state-of-the-art IQA models on our database. The database will be released to facilitate future research.

AGHI-QA: A Subjective-Aligned Dataset and Metric for AI-Generated Human ImagesYunhao Li, Sijing Wu, Wei Sun et al.
The rapid development of text-to-image (T2I) generation approaches has attracted extensive interest in evaluating the quality of generated images, leading to the development of various quality assessment methods for general-purpose T2I outputs. However, existing image quality assessment (IQA) methods are limited to providing global quality scores, failing to deliver fine-grained perceptual evaluations for structurally complex subjects like humans, which is a critical challenge considering the frequent anatomical and textural distortions in AI-generated human images (AGHIs). To address this gap, we introduce AGHI-QA, the first large-scale benchmark specifically designed for quality assessment of AGHIs. The dataset comprises 4,000 images generated from 400 carefully crafted text prompts using 10 state of-the-art T2I models. We conduct a systematic subjective study to collect multidimensional annotations, including perceptual quality scores, text-image correspondence scores, visible and distorted body part labels. Based on AGHI-QA, we evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of current T2I methods in generating human images from multiple dimensions. Furthermore, we propose AGHI-Assessor, a novel quality metric that integrates the large multimodal model (LMM) with domain-specific human features for precise quality prediction and identification of visible and distorted body parts in AGHIs. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that AGHI-Assessor showcases state-of-the-art performance, significantly outperforming existing IQA methods in multidimensional quality assessment and surpassing leading LMMs in detecting structural distortions in AGHIs.

VQualA 2025 Challenge on Visual Quality Comparison for Large Multimodal Models: Methods and ResultsHanwei Zhu, Haoning Wu, Zicheng Zhang et al.
This paper presents a summary of the VQualA 2025 Challenge on Visual Quality Comparison for Large Multimodal Models (LMMs), hosted as part of the ICCV 2025 Workshop on Visual Quality Assessment. The challenge aims to evaluate and enhance the ability of state-of-the-art LMMs to perform open-ended and detailed reasoning about visual quality differences across multiple images. To this end, the competition introduces a novel benchmark comprising thousands of coarse-to-fine grained visual quality comparison tasks, spanning single images, pairs, and multi-image groups. Each task requires models to provide accurate quality judgments. The competition emphasizes holistic evaluation protocols, including 2AFC-based binary preference and multi-choice questions (MCQs). Around 100 participants submitted entries, with five models demonstrating the emerging capabilities of instruction-tuned LMMs on quality assessment. This challenge marks a significant step toward open-domain visual quality reasoning and comparison and serves as a catalyst for future research on interpretable and human-aligned quality evaluation systems.

SingingHead: A Large-scale 4D Dataset for Singing Head AnimationSijing Wu, Yunhao Li, Weitian Zhang et al.
Singing, as a common facial movement second only to talking, can be regarded as a universal language across ethnicities and cultures, plays an important role in emotional communication, art, and entertainment. However, it is often overlooked in the field of audio-driven facial animation due to the lack of singing head datasets and the domain gap between singing and talking in rhythm and amplitude. To this end, we collect a high-quality large-scale singing head dataset, SingingHead, which consists of more than 27 hours of synchronized singing video, 3D facial motion, singing audio, and background music from 76 individuals and 8 types of music. Along with the SingingHead dataset, we benchmark existing audio-driven 3D facial animation methods and 2D talking head methods on the singing task. Furthermore, we argue that 3D and 2D facial animation tasks can be solved together, and propose a unified singing head animation framework named UniSinger to achieve both singing audio-driven 3D singing head animation and 2D singing portrait video synthesis, which achieves competitive results on both 3D and 2D benchmarks. Extensive experiments demonstrate the significance of the proposed singing-specific dataset in promoting the development of singing head animation tasks, as well as the promising performance of our unified facial animation framework.

MVBIND: Self-Supervised Music Recommendation For Videos Via Embedding Space BindingJiajie Teng, Huiyu Duan, Yucheng Zhu et al.
Recent years have witnessed the rapid development of short videos, which usually contain both visual and audio modalities. Background music is important to the short videos, which can significantly influence the emotions of the viewers. However, at present, the background music of short videos is generally chosen by the video producer, and there is a lack of automatic music recommendation methods for short videos. This paper introduces MVBind, an innovative Music-Video embedding space Binding model for cross-modal retrieval. MVBind operates as a self-supervised approach, acquiring inherent knowledge of intermodal relationships directly from data, without the need of manual annotations. Additionally, to compensate the lack of a corresponding musical-visual pair dataset for short videos, we construct a dataset, SVM-10K(Short Video with Music-10K), which mainly consists of meticulously selected short videos. On this dataset, MVBind manifests significantly improved performance compared to other baseline methods. The constructed dataset and code will be released to facilitate future research.

Exploring Instruction Data Quality for Explainable Image Quality AssessmentYunhao Li, Sijing Wu, Huiyu Duan et al.
In recent years, with the rapid development of powerful multimodal large language models (MLLMs), explainable image quality assessment (IQA) has gradually become popular, aiming at providing quality-related descriptions and answers of images. To achieve this goal, recent methods seek to construct a large-scale instruction tuning dataset to empower the MLLM with quality perception ability following the well-known scaling law. However, a large amount of instruction tuning data may cause substantial computational costs and redundant data, which in turn will cause harm to the performance of the model. To cope with this problem, in this paper, we challenge the scaling law and systematically investigate the role of data quality of the instruction tuning dataset for explainable IQA. Using a powerful pre-trained MLLM, we first investigate the changes in model performance after fine-tuning with different sizes of instruction tuning data. We find that selecting a subset of the data set randomly using an appropriate ratio can even lead to better results than training with the entire instruction tuning dataset, demonstrating the redundancy of current explainable IQA instruction tuning data. Beyond randomly sampling a subset, we propose a clustering-based data selection framework with three stages: clustering feature extraction, cluster quota allocation, and cluster sampling strategy. Then we systematically analyze the choices of each stage and propose a simple but efficient data selection method IQA-Select for explainable IQA. The experimental results demonstrate that IQA-Select can achieve 102.1% and 103.7% performance of full fine-tuning using only 10% selected data in Q-Bench and AesBench respectively, significantly reducing computational costs while achieving better performance.

DHQA-4D: Perceptual Quality Assessment of Dynamic 4D Digital HumanYunhao Li, Sijing Wu, Yucheng Zhu et al.
With the rapid development of 3D scanning and reconstruction technologies, dynamic digital human avatars based on 4D meshes have become increasingly popular. A high-precision dynamic digital human avatar can be applied to various fields such as game production, animation generation, and remote immersive communication. However, these 4D human avatar meshes are prone to being degraded by various types of noise during the processes of collection, compression, and transmission, thereby affecting the viewing experience of users. In light of this fact, quality assessment of dynamic 4D digital humans becomes increasingly important. In this paper, we first propose a large-scale dynamic digital human quality assessment dataset, DHQA-4D, which contains 32 high-quality real-scanned 4D human mesh sequences, 1920 distorted textured 4D human meshes degraded by 11 textured distortions, as well as their corresponding textured and non-textured mean opinion scores (MOSs). Equipped with DHQA-4D dataset, we analyze the influence of different types of distortion on human perception for textured dynamic 4D meshes and non-textured dynamic 4D meshes. Additionally, we propose DynaMesh-Rater, a novel large multimodal model (LMM) based approach that is able to assess both textured 4D meshes and non-textured 4D meshes. Concretely, DynaMesh-Rater elaborately extracts multi-dimensional features, including visual features from a projected 2D video, motion features from cropped video clips, and geometry features from the 4D human mesh to provide comprehensive quality-related information. Then we utilize a LMM model to integrate the multi-dimensional features and conduct a LoRA-based instruction tuning technique to teach the LMM model to predict the quality scores. Extensive experimental results on the DHQA-4D dataset demonstrate the superiority of our DynaMesh-Rater method over previous quality assessment methods.

Toward Better Understanding of Saliency Prediction in Augmented 360 Degree VideosYucheng Zhu, Xiongkuo Min, DanDan Zhu et al.
Augmented reality (AR) overlays digital content onto the reality. In AR system, correct and precise estimations of user's visual fixations and head movements can enhance the quality of experience by allocating more computation resources on the areas of interest. However, there is inadequate research about understanding the visual exploration of users when using an AR system or modeling AR visual attention. To bridge the gap between the saliency prediction on real-world scene and on scene augmented by virtual information, we construct the ARVR saliency dataset with 12 diverse videos viewed by 20 people. The virtual reality (VR) technique is employed to simulate the real-world. Annotations of object recognition and tracking as augmented contents are blended into the omnidirectional videos. The saliency annotations of head and eye movements for both original and augmented videos are collected and together constitute the ARVR dataset. We also design a model which is capable of solving the saliency prediction problem in AR. Local block images are extracted to simulate the viewport and offset the projection distortion. Conspicuous visual cues in local viewports are extracted to constitute the spatial features. The optical flow information is estimated as the important temporal feature. We also consider the interplay between virtual information and reality. The composition of the augmentation information is distinguished, and the joint effects of adversarial augmentation and complementary augmentation are estimated. We generate a graph by taking each block image as one node. Both the visual saliency mechanism and the characteristics of viewing behaviors are considered in the computation of edge weights on the graph which are interpreted as Markov chains. The fraction of the visual attention that is diverted to each block image is estimated through equilibrium distribution on of this chain.

Machine: The New Art ConnoisseurYucheng Zhu, Yanrong Ji, Yueying Zhang et al.
The process of identifying and understanding art styles to discover artistic influences is essential to the study of art history. Traditionally, trained experts review fine details of the works and compare them to other known works. To automate and scale this task, we use several state-of-the-art CNN architectures to explore how a machine may help perceive and quantify art styles. This study explores: (1) How accurately can a machine classify art styles? (2) What may be the underlying relationships among different styles and artists? To help answer the first question, our best-performing model using Inception V3 achieves a 9-class classification accuracy of 88.35%, which outperforms the model in Elgammal et al.'s study by more than 20 percent. Visualizations using Grad-CAM heat maps confirm that the model correctly focuses on the characteristic parts of paintings. To help address the second question, we conduct network analysis on the influences among styles and artists by extracting 512 features from the best-performing classification model. Through 2D and 3D T-SNE visualizations, we observe clear chronological patterns of development and separation among the art styles. The network analysis also appears to show anticipated artist level connections from an art historical perspective. This technique appears to help identify some previously unknown linkages that may shed light upon new directions for further exploration by art historians. We hope that humans and machines working in concert may bring new opportunities to the field.

Terahertz Security Image Quality Assessment by No-reference Model ObserversMenghan Hu, Xiongkuo Min, Guangtao Zhai et al.
To provide the possibility of developing objective image quality assessment (IQA) algorithms for THz security images, we constructed the THz security image database (THSID) including a total of 181 THz security images with the resolution of 127*380. The main distortion types in THz security images were first analyzed for the design of subjective evaluation criteria to acquire the mean opinion scores. Subsequently, the existing no-reference IQA algorithms, which were 5 opinion-aware approaches viz., NFERM, GMLF, DIIVINE, BRISQUE and BLIINDS2, and 8 opinion-unaware approaches viz., QAC, SISBLIM, NIQE, FISBLIM, CPBD, S3 and Fish_bb, were executed for the evaluation of the THz security image quality. The statistical results demonstrated the superiority of Fish_bb over the other testing IQA approaches for assessing the THz image quality with PLCC (SROCC) values of 0.8925 (-0.8706), and with RMSE value of 0.3993. The linear regression analysis and Bland-Altman plot further verified that the Fish__bb could substitute for the subjective IQA. Nonetheless, for the classification of THz security images, we tended to use S3 as a criterion for ranking THz security image grades because of the relatively low false positive rate in classifying bad THz image quality into acceptable category (24.69%). Interestingly, due to the specific property of THz image, the average pixel intensity gave the best performance than the above complicated IQA algorithms, with the PLCC, SROCC and RMSE of 0.9001, -0.8800 and 0.3857, respectively. This study will help the users such as researchers or security staffs to obtain the THz security images of good quality. Currently, our research group is attempting to make this research more comprehensive.
