UVCGAN: UNet Vision Transformer cycle-consistent GAN for unpaired image-to-image translationDmitrii Torbunov, Yi Huang, Haiwang Yu et al.
Unpaired image-to-image translation has broad applications in art, design, and scientific simulations. One early breakthrough was CycleGAN that emphasizes one-to-one mappings between two unpaired image domains via generative-adversarial networks (GAN) coupled with the cycle-consistency constraint, while more recent works promote one-to-many mapping to boost diversity of the translated images. Motivated by scientific simulation and one-to-one needs, this work revisits the classic CycleGAN framework and boosts its performance to outperform more contemporary models without relaxing the cycle-consistency constraint. To achieve this, we equip the generator with a Vision Transformer (ViT) and employ necessary training and regularization techniques. Compared to previous best-performing models, our model performs better and retains a strong correlation between the original and translated image. An accompanying ablation study shows that both the gradient penalty and self-supervised pre-training are crucial to the improvement. UVCGAN v2: An Improved Cycle-Consistent GAN for Unpaired Image-to-Image TranslationDmitrii Torbunov, Yi Huang, Huan-Hsin Tseng et al.
An unpaired image-to-image (I2I) translation technique seeks to find a mapping between two domains of data in a fully unsupervised manner. While initial solutions to the I2I problem were provided by generative adversarial neural networks (GANs), diffusion models (DMs) currently hold the state-of-the-art status on the I2I translation benchmarks in terms of Frechet inception distance (FID). Yet, DMs suffer from limitations, such as not using data from the source domain during the training or maintaining consistency of the source and translated images only via simple pixel-wise errors. This work improves a recent UVCGAN model and equips it with modern advancements in model architectures and training procedures. The resulting revised model significantly outperforms other advanced GAN- and DM-based competitors on a variety of benchmarks. In the case of Male-to-Female translation of CelebA, the model achieves more than 40% improvement in FID score compared to the state-of-the-art results. This work also demonstrates the ineffectiveness of the pixel-wise I2I translation faithfulness metrics and suggests their revision. Transferable Adversarial Attack based on Integrated GradientsYi Huang, Adams Wai-Kin Kong
The vulnerability of deep neural networks to adversarial examples has drawn tremendous attention from the community. Three approaches, optimizing standard objective functions, exploiting attention maps, and smoothing decision surfaces, are commonly used to craft adversarial examples. By tightly integrating the three approaches, we propose a new and simple algorithm named Transferable Attack based on Integrated Gradients (TAIG) in this paper, which can find highly transferable adversarial examples for black-box attacks. Unlike previous methods using multiple computational terms or combining with other methods, TAIG integrates the three approaches into one single term. Two versions of TAIG that compute their integrated gradients on a straight-line path and a random piecewise linear path are studied. Both versions offer strong transferability and can seamlessly work together with the previous methods. Experimental results demonstrate that TAIG outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. Curriculum-Based Self-Training Makes Better Few-Shot Learners for Data-to-Text GenerationPei Ke, Haozhe Ji, Zhenyu Yang et al. · tsinghua
Despite the success of text-to-text pre-trained models in various natural language generation (NLG) tasks, the generation performance is largely restricted by the number of labeled data in downstream tasks, particularly in data-to-text generation tasks. Existing works mostly utilize abundant unlabeled structured data to conduct unsupervised pre-training for task adaption, which fail to model the complex relationship between source structured data and target texts. Thus, we introduce self-training as a better few-shot learner than task-adaptive pre-training, which explicitly captures this relationship via pseudo-labeled data generated by the pre-trained model. To alleviate the side-effect of low-quality pseudo-labeled data during self-training, we propose a novel method called Curriculum-Based Self-Training (CBST) to effectively leverage unlabeled data in a rearranged order determined by the difficulty of text generation. Experimental results show that our method can outperform fine-tuning and task-adaptive pre-training methods, and achieve state-of-the-art performance in the few-shot setting of data-to-text generation.

AggPose: Deep Aggregation Vision Transformer for Infant Pose EstimationXu Cao, Xiaoye Li, Liya Ma et al.
Movement and pose assessment of newborns lets experienced pediatricians predict neurodevelopmental disorders, allowing early intervention for related diseases. However, most of the newest AI approaches for human pose estimation methods focus on adults, lacking publicly benchmark for infant pose estimation. In this paper, we fill this gap by proposing infant pose dataset and Deep Aggregation Vision Transformer for human pose estimation, which introduces a fast trained full transformer framework without using convolution operations to extract features in the early stages. It generalizes Transformer + MLP to high-resolution deep layer aggregation within feature maps, thus enabling information fusion between different vision levels. We pre-train AggPose on COCO pose dataset and apply it on our newly released large-scale infant pose estimation dataset. The results show that AggPose could effectively learn the multi-scale features among different resolutions and significantly improve the performance of infant pose estimation. We show that AggPose outperforms hybrid model HRFormer and TokenPose in the infant pose estimation dataset. Moreover, our AggPose outperforms HRFormer by 0.8 AP on COCO val pose estimation on average. Our code is available at github.com/SZAR-LAB/AggPose.

V4d: voxel for 4d novel view synthesisWanshui Gan, Hongbin Xu, Yi Huang et al.
Neural radiance fields have made a remarkable breakthrough in the novel view synthesis task at the 3D static scene. However, for the 4D circumstance (e.g., dynamic scene), the performance of the existing method is still limited by the capacity of the neural network, typically in a multilayer perceptron network (MLP). In this paper, we utilize 3D Voxel to model the 4D neural radiance field, short as V4D, where the 3D voxel has two formats. The first one is to regularly model the 3D space and then use the sampled local 3D feature with the time index to model the density field and the texture field by a tiny MLP. The second one is in look-up tables (LUTs) format that is for the pixel-level refinement, where the pseudo-surface produced by the volume rendering is utilized as the guidance information to learn a 2D pixel-level refinement mapping. The proposed LUTs-based refinement module achieves the performance gain with little computational cost and could serve as the plug-and-play module in the novel view synthesis task. Moreover, we propose a more effective conditional positional encoding toward the 4D data that achieves performance gain with negligible computational burdens. Extensive experiments demonstrate that the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance at a low computational cost.

Multi-Action Dialog Policy Learning from Logged User FeedbackShuo Zhang, Junzhou Zhao, Pinghui Wang et al.
Multi-action dialog policy, which generates multiple atomic dialog actions per turn, has been widely applied in task-oriented dialog systems to provide expressive and efficient system responses. Existing policy models usually imitate action combinations from the labeled multi-action dialog examples. Due to data limitations, they generalize poorly toward unseen dialog flows. While reinforcement learning-based methods are proposed to incorporate the service ratings from real users and user simulators as external supervision signals, they suffer from sparse and less credible dialog-level rewards. To cope with this problem, we explore to improve multi-action dialog policy learning with explicit and implicit turn-level user feedback received for historical predictions (i.e., logged user feedback) that are cost-efficient to collect and faithful to real-world scenarios. The task is challenging since the logged user feedback provides only partial label feedback limited to the particular historical dialog actions predicted by the agent. To fully exploit such feedback information, we propose BanditMatch, which addresses the task from a feedback-enhanced semi-supervised learning perspective with a hybrid objective of semi-supervised learning and bandit learning. BanditMatch integrates pseudo-labeling methods to better explore the action space through constructing full label feedback. Extensive experiments show that our BanditMatch outperforms the state-of-the-art methods by generating more concise and informative responses. MagicFight: Personalized Martial Arts Combat Video GenerationJiancheng Huang, Mingfu Yan, Songyan Chen et al.
Amid the surge in generic text-to-video generation, the field of personalized human video generation has witnessed notable advancements, primarily concentrated on single-person scenarios. However, to our knowledge, the domain of two-person interactions, particularly in the context of martial arts combat, remains uncharted. We identify a significant gap: existing models for single-person dancing generation prove insufficient for capturing the subtleties and complexities of two engaged fighters, resulting in challenges such as identity confusion, anomalous limbs, and action mismatches. To address this, we introduce a pioneering new task, Personalized Martial Arts Combat Video Generation. Our approach, MagicFight, is specifically crafted to overcome these hurdles. Given this pioneering task, we face a lack of appropriate datasets. Thus, we generate a bespoke dataset using the game physics engine Unity, meticulously crafting a multitude of 3D characters, martial arts moves, and scenes designed to represent the diversity of combat. MagicFight refines and adapts existing models and strategies to generate high-fidelity two-person combat videos that maintain individual identities and ensure seamless, coherent action sequences, thereby laying the groundwork for future innovations in the realm of interactive video content creation. BEVHeight++: Toward Robust Visual Centric 3D Object DetectionLei Yang, Tao Tang, Jun Li et al.
While most recent autonomous driving system focuses on developing perception methods on ego-vehicle sensors, people tend to overlook an alternative approach to leverage intelligent roadside cameras to extend the perception ability beyond the visual range. We discover that the state-of-the-art vision-centric bird's eye view detection methods have inferior performances on roadside cameras. This is because these methods mainly focus on recovering the depth regarding the camera center, where the depth difference between the car and the ground quickly shrinks while the distance increases. In this paper, we propose a simple yet effective approach, dubbed BEVHeight++, to address this issue. In essence, we regress the height to the ground to achieve a distance-agnostic formulation to ease the optimization process of camera-only perception methods. By incorporating both height and depth encoding techniques, we achieve a more accurate and robust projection from 2D to BEV spaces. On popular 3D detection benchmarks of roadside cameras, our method surpasses all previous vision-centric methods by a significant margin. In terms of the ego-vehicle scenario, our BEVHeight++ possesses superior over depth-only methods. Specifically, it yields a notable improvement of +1.9% NDS and +1.1% mAP over BEVDepth when evaluated on the nuScenes validation set. Moreover, on the nuScenes test set, our method achieves substantial advancements, with an increase of +2.8% NDS and +1.7% mAP, respectively.

Fast 2D Bicephalous Convolutional Autoencoder for Compressing 3D Time Projection Chamber DataYi Huang, Yihui Ren, Shinjae Yoo et al.
High-energy large-scale particle colliders produce data at high speed in the order of 1 terabytes per second in nuclear physics and petabytes per second in high-energy physics. Developing real-time data compression algorithms to reduce such data at high throughput to fit permanent storage has drawn increasing attention. Specifically, at the newly constructed sPHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), a time projection chamber is used as the main tracking detector, which records particle trajectories in a volume of a three-dimensional (3D) cylinder. The resulting data are usually very sparse with occupancy around 10.8%. Such sparsity presents a challenge to conventional learning-free lossy compression algorithms, such as SZ, ZFP, and MGARD. The 3D convolutional neural network (CNN)-based approach, Bicephalous Convolutional Autoencoder (BCAE), outperforms traditional methods both in compression rate and reconstruction accuracy. BCAE can also utilize the computation power of graphical processing units suitable for deployment in a modern heterogeneous high-performance computing environment. This work introduces two BCAE variants: BCAE++ and BCAE-2D. BCAE++ achieves a 15% better compression ratio and a 77% better reconstruction accuracy measured in mean absolute error compared with BCAE. BCAE-2D treats the radial direction as the channel dimension of an image, resulting in a 3x speedup in compression throughput. In addition, we demonstrate an unbalanced autoencoder with a larger decoder can improve reconstruction accuracy without significantly sacrificing throughput. Lastly, we observe both the BCAE++ and BCAE-2D can benefit more from using half-precision mode in throughput (76-79% increase) without loss in reconstruction accuracy. Graph Edit Distance Learning via Different AttentionJiaxi Lv, Liang Zhang, Yi Huang et al.
Recently, more and more research has focused on using Graph Neural Networks (GNN) to solve the Graph Similarity Computation problem (GSC), i.e., computing the Graph Edit Distance (GED) between two graphs. These methods treat GSC as an end-to-end learnable task, and the core of their architecture is the feature fusion modules to interact with the features of two graphs. Existing methods consider that graph-level embedding is difficult to capture the differences in local small structures between two graphs, and thus perform fine-grained feature fusion on node-level embedding can improve the accuracy, but leads to greater time and memory consumption in the training and inference phases. However, this paper proposes a novel graph-level fusion module Different Attention (DiffAtt), and demonstrates that graph-level fusion embeddings can substantially outperform these complex node-level fusion embeddings. We posit that the relative difference structure of the two graphs plays an important role in calculating their GED values. To this end, DiffAtt uses the difference between two graph-level embeddings as an attentional mechanism to capture the graph structural difference of the two graphs. Based on DiffAtt, a new GSC method, named Graph Edit Distance Learning via Different Attention (REDRAFT), is proposed, and experimental results demonstrate that REDRAFT achieves state-of-the-art performance in 23 out of 25 metrics in five benchmark datasets. Especially on MSE, it respectively outperforms the second best by 19.9%, 48.8%, 29.1%, 31.6%, and 2.2%. Moreover, we propose a quantitative test Remaining Subgraph Alignment Test (RESAT) to verify that among all graph-level fusion modules, the fusion embedding generated by DiffAtt can best capture the structural differences between two graphs.

MonoGAE: Roadside Monocular 3D Object Detection with Ground-Aware EmbeddingsLei Yang, Jiaxin Yu, Xinyu Zhang et al.
Although the majority of recent autonomous driving systems concentrate on developing perception methods based on ego-vehicle sensors, there is an overlooked alternative approach that involves leveraging intelligent roadside cameras to help extend the ego-vehicle perception ability beyond the visual range. We discover that most existing monocular 3D object detectors rely on the ego-vehicle prior assumption that the optical axis of the camera is parallel to the ground. However, the roadside camera is installed on a pole with a pitched angle, which makes the existing methods not optimal for roadside scenes. In this paper, we introduce a novel framework for Roadside Monocular 3D object detection with ground-aware embeddings, named MonoGAE. Specifically, the ground plane is a stable and strong prior knowledge due to the fixed installation of cameras in roadside scenarios. In order to reduce the domain gap between the ground geometry information and high-dimensional image features, we employ a supervised training paradigm with a ground plane to predict high-dimensional ground-aware embeddings. These embeddings are subsequently integrated with image features through cross-attention mechanisms. Furthermore, to improve the detector's robustness to the divergences in cameras' installation poses, we replace the ground plane depth map with a novel pixel-level refined ground plane equation map. Our approach demonstrates a substantial performance advantage over all previous monocular 3D object detectors on widely recognized 3D detection benchmarks for roadside cameras. Generalized Intent Discovery: Learning from Open World Dialogue SystemYutao Mou, Keqing He, Yanan Wu et al.
Traditional intent classification models are based on a pre-defined intent set and only recognize limited in-domain (IND) intent classes. But users may input out-of-domain (OOD) queries in a practical dialogue system. Such OOD queries can provide directions for future improvement. In this paper, we define a new task, Generalized Intent Discovery (GID), which aims to extend an IND intent classifier to an open-world intent set including IND and OOD intents. We hope to simultaneously classify a set of labeled IND intent classes while discovering and recognizing new unlabeled OOD types incrementally. We construct three public datasets for different application scenarios and propose two kinds of frameworks, pipeline-based and end-to-end for future work. Further, we conduct exhaustive experiments and qualitative analysis to comprehend key challenges and provide new guidance for future GID research.

DiffX: Guide Your Layout to Cross-Modal Generative ModelingZeyu Wang, Jingyu Lin, Yifei Qian et al.
Diffusion models have made significant strides in language-driven and layout-driven image generation. However, most diffusion models are limited to visible RGB image generation. In fact, human perception of the world is enriched by diverse viewpoints, such as chromatic contrast, thermal illumination, and depth information. In this paper, we introduce a novel diffusion model for general layout-guided cross-modal generation, called DiffX. Notably, our DiffX presents a compact and effective cross-modal generative modeling pipeline, which conducts diffusion and denoising processes in the modality-shared latent space. Moreover, we introduce the Joint-Modality Embedder (JME) to enhance the interaction between layout and text conditions by incorporating a gated attention mechanism. To facilitate the user-instructed training, we construct the cross-modal image datasets with detailed text captions by the Large-Multimodal Model (LMM) and our human-in-the-loop refinement. Through extensive experiments, our DiffX demonstrates robustness in cross-modal ''RGB+X'' image generation on FLIR, MFNet, and COME15K datasets, guided by various layout conditions. Meanwhile, it shows the strong potential for the adaptive generation of ``RGB+X+Y(+Z)'' images or more diverse modalities on FLIR, MFNet, COME15K, and MCXFace datasets. Unpaired Image Translation to Mitigate Domain Shift in Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber Detector ResponsesYi Huang, Dmitrii Torbunov, Brett Viren et al.
Deep learning algorithms often are trained and deployed on different datasets. Any systematic difference between the training and a test dataset may degrade the algorithm performance--what is known as the domain shift problem. This issue is prevalent in many scientific domains where algorithms are trained on simulated data but applied to real-world datasets. Typically, the domain shift problem is solved through various domain adaptation methods. However, these methods are often tailored for a specific downstream task and may not easily generalize to different tasks. This work explores the feasibility of using an alternative way to solve the domain shift problem that is not specific to any downstream algorithm. The proposed approach relies on modern Unpaired Image-to-Image translation techniques, designed to find translations between different image domains in a fully unsupervised fashion. In this study, the approach is applied to a domain shift problem commonly encountered in Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber (LArTPC) detector research when seeking a way to translate samples between two differently distributed detector datasets deterministically. This translation allows for mapping real-world data into the simulated data domain where the downstream algorithms can be run with much less domain-shift-related degradation. Conversely, using the translation from the simulated data in a real-world domain can increase the realism of the simulated dataset and reduce the magnitude of any systematic uncertainties. We adapted several UI2I translation algorithms to work on scientific data and demonstrated the viability of these techniques for solving the domain shift problem with LArTPC detector data. To facilitate further development of domain adaptation techniques for scientific datasets, the "Simple Liquid-Argon Track Samples" dataset used in this study also is published.

Some Results on the Regularization of LSQR for Large-Scale Discrete Ill-Posed ProblemsYi Huang, Zhongxiao Jia
LSQR, a Lanczos bidiagonalization based Krylov subspace iterative method, and its mathematically equivalent CGLS applied to normal equations system, are commonly used for large-scale discrete ill-posed problems. It is well known that LSQR and CGLS have regularizing effects, where the number of iterations plays the role of the regularization parameter. However, it has long been unknown whether the regularizing effects are good enough to find best possible regularized solutions. Here a best possible regularized solution means that it is at least as accurate as the best regularized solution obtained by the truncated singular value decomposition (TSVD) method. In this paper, we establish bounds for the distance between the $k$-dimensional Krylov subspace and the $k$-dimensional dominant right singular space. They show that the Krylov subspace captures the dominant right singular space better for severely and moderately ill-posed problems than for mildly ill-posed problems. Our general conclusions are that LSQR has better regularizing effects for the first two kinds of problems than for the third kind, and a hybrid LSQR with additional regularization is generally needed for mildly ill-posed problems. Exploiting the established bounds, we derive an estimate for the accuracy of the rank $k$ approximation generated by Lanczos bidiagonalization. Numerical experiments illustrate that the regularizing effects of LSQR are good enough to compute best possible regularized solutions for severely and moderately ill-posed problems, stronger than our theory predicts, but they are not for mildly ill-posed problems and additional regularization is needed.

PSSAT: A Perturbed Semantic Structure Awareness Transferring Method for Perturbation-Robust Slot FillingGuanting Dong, Daichi Guo, Liwen Wang et al.
Most existing slot filling models tend to memorize inherent patterns of entities and corresponding contexts from training data. However, these models can lead to system failure or undesirable outputs when being exposed to spoken language perturbation or variation in practice. We propose a perturbed semantic structure awareness transferring method for training perturbation-robust slot filling models. Specifically, we introduce two MLM-based training strategies to respectively learn contextual semantic structure and word distribution from unsupervised language perturbation corpus. Then, we transfer semantic knowledge learned from upstream training procedure into the original samples and filter generated data by consistency processing. These procedures aim to enhance the robustness of slot filling models. Experimental results show that our method consistently outperforms the previous basic methods and gains strong generalization while preventing the model from memorizing inherent patterns of entities and contexts.

Advancing Semi-Supervised Task Oriented Dialog Systems by JSA Learning of Discrete Latent Variable ModelsYucheng Cai, Hong Liu, Zhijian Ou et al.
Developing semi-supervised task-oriented dialog (TOD) systems by leveraging unlabeled dialog data has attracted increasing interests. For semi-supervised learning of latent state TOD models, variational learning is often used, but suffers from the annoying high-variance of the gradients propagated through discrete latent variables and the drawback of indirectly optimizing the target log-likelihood. Recently, an alternative algorithm, called joint stochastic approximation (JSA), has emerged for learning discrete latent variable models with impressive performances. In this paper, we propose to apply JSA to semi-supervised learning of the latent state TOD models, which is referred to as JSA-TOD. To our knowledge, JSA-TOD represents the first work in developing JSA based semi-supervised learning of discrete latent variable conditional models for such long sequential generation problems like in TOD systems. Extensive experiments show that JSA-TOD significantly outperforms its variational learning counterpart. Remarkably, semi-supervised JSA-TOD using 20% labels performs close to the full-supervised baseline on MultiWOZ2.1.

Low-Light Image Enhancement by Learning Contrastive Representations in Spatial and Frequency DomainsYi Huang, Xiaoguang Tu, Gui Fu et al.
Images taken under low-light conditions tend to suffer from poor visibility, which can decrease image quality and even reduce the performance of the downstream tasks. It is hard for a CNN-based method to learn generalized features that can recover normal images from the ones under various unknow low-light conditions. In this paper, we propose to incorporate the contrastive learning into an illumination correction network to learn abstract representations to distinguish various low-light conditions in the representation space, with the purpose of enhancing the generalizability of the network. Considering that light conditions can change the frequency components of the images, the representations are learned and compared in both spatial and frequency domains to make full advantage of the contrastive learning. The proposed method is evaluated on LOL and LOL-V2 datasets, the results show that the proposed method achieves better qualitative and quantitative results compared with other state-of-the-arts.

GPT4Motion: Scripting Physical Motions in Text-to-Video Generation via Blender-Oriented GPT PlanningJiaxi Lv, Yi Huang, Mingfu Yan et al.
Recent advances in text-to-video generation have harnessed the power of diffusion models to create visually compelling content conditioned on text prompts. However, they usually encounter high computational costs and often struggle to produce videos with coherent physical motions. To tackle these issues, we propose GPT4Motion, a training-free framework that leverages the planning capability of large language models such as GPT, the physical simulation strength of Blender, and the excellent image generation ability of text-to-image diffusion models to enhance the quality of video synthesis. Specifically, GPT4Motion employs GPT-4 to generate a Blender script based on a user textual prompt, which commands Blender's built-in physics engine to craft fundamental scene components that encapsulate coherent physical motions across frames. Then these components are inputted into Stable Diffusion to generate a video aligned with the textual prompt. Experimental results on three basic physical motion scenarios, including rigid object drop and collision, cloth draping and swinging, and liquid flow, demonstrate that GPT4Motion can generate high-quality videos efficiently in maintaining motion coherency and entity consistency. GPT4Motion offers new insights in text-to-video research, enhancing its quality and broadening its horizon for further explorations.

Recent AI research plots a promising future of automatic chemical reactions within the chemistry society. This study proposes Chemist-X, a comprehensive AI agent that automates the reaction condition optimization (RCO) task in chemical synthesis with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) technology and AI-controlled wet-lab experiment executions. To begin with, as an emulation on how chemical experts solve the RCO task, Chemist-X utilizes a novel RAG scheme to interrogate available molecular and literature databases to narrow the searching space for later processing. The agent then leverages a computer-aided design (CAD) tool we have developed through a large language model (LLM) supervised programming interface. With updated chemical knowledge obtained via RAG, as well as the ability in using CAD tools, our agent significantly outperforms conventional RCO AIs confined to the fixed knowledge within its training data. Finally, Chemist-X interacts with the physical world through an automated robotic system, which can validate the suggested chemical reaction condition without human interventions. The control of the robotic system was achieved with a novel algorithm we have developed for the equipment, which relies on LLMs for reliable script generation. Results of our automatic wet-lab experiments, achieved by fully LLM-supervised end-to-end operation with no human in the lope, prove Chemist-X's ability in self-driving laboratories.

On Regularizing Effects of MINRES and MR-II for Large-Scale Symmetric Discrete Ill-Posed ProblemsYi Huang, Zhongxiao Jia
For large scale symmetric discrete ill-posed problems, MINRES and MR-II are often used iterative regularization solvers. We call a regularized solution best possible if it is at least as accurate as the best regularized solution obtained by the truncated singular value decomposition (TSVD) method. In this paper, we analyze their regularizing effects and establish the following results: (i) the filtered SVD expression are derived for the regularized solutions by MINRES; (ii) a hybrid MINRES that uses explicit regularization within projected problems is needed to compute a best possible regularized solution to a given ill-posed problem; (iii) the $k$th iterate by MINRES is more accurate than the $(k-1)$th iterate by MR-II until the semi-convergence of MINRES, but MR-II has globally better regularizing effects than MINRES; (iv) bounds are obtained for the 2-norm distance between an underlying $k$-dimensional Krylov subspace and the $k$-dimensional dominant eigenspace. They show that MR-II has better regularizing effects for severely and moderately ill-posed problems than for mildly ill-posed problems, and a hybrid MR-II is needed to get a best possible regularized solution for mildly ill-posed problems; (v) bounds are derived for the entries generated by the symmetric Lanczos process that MR-II is based on, showing how fast they decay. Numerical experiments confirm our assertions. Stronger than our theory, the regularizing effects of MR-II are experimentally shown to be good enough to obtain best possible regularized solutions for severely and moderately ill-posed problems.

No Data? No Problem: Synthesizing Security Graphs for Better Intrusion DetectionYi Huang, Shaofei Li, Yao Guo et al.
Provenance graph analysis plays a vital role in intrusion detection, particularly against Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs), by exposing complex attack patterns. While recent systems combine graph neural networks (GNNs) with natural language processing (NLP) to capture structural and semantic features, their effectiveness is limited by class imbalance in real-world data. To address this, we introduce PROVSYN, a novel hybrid provenance graph synthesis framework, which comprises three components: (1) graph structure synthesis via heterogeneous graph generation models, (2) textual attribute synthesis via fine-tuned Large Language Models (LLMs), and (3) five-dimensional fidelity evaluation. Experiments on six benchmark datasets demonstrate that PROVSYN consistently produces higher-fidelity graphs across the five evaluation dimensions compared to four strong baselines. To further demonstrate the practical utility of PROVSYN, we utilize the synthesized graphs to augment training datasets for downstream APT detection models. The results show that PROVSYN effectively mitigates data imbalance, improving normalized entropy by up to 35%, and enhances the generalizability of downstream detection models, achieving an accuracy improvement of up to 38%.

Denoising diffusion models have emerged as a powerful tool for various image generation and editing tasks, facilitating the synthesis of visual content in an unconditional or input-conditional manner. The core idea behind them is learning to reverse the process of gradually adding noise to images, allowing them to generate high-quality samples from a complex distribution. In this survey, we provide an exhaustive overview of existing methods using diffusion models for image editing, covering both theoretical and practical aspects in the field. We delve into a thorough analysis and categorization of these works from multiple perspectives, including learning strategies, user-input conditions, and the array of specific editing tasks that can be accomplished. In addition, we pay special attention to image inpainting and outpainting, and explore both earlier traditional context-driven and current multimodal conditional methods, offering a comprehensive analysis of their methodologies. To further evaluate the performance of text-guided image editing algorithms, we propose a systematic benchmark, EditEval, featuring an innovative metric, LMM Score. Finally, we address current limitations and envision some potential directions for future research. "Think Before You Speak": Improving Multi-Action Dialog Policy by Planning Single-Action DialogsShuo Zhang, Junzhou Zhao, Pinghui Wang et al.
Multi-action dialog policy (MADP), which generates multiple atomic dialog actions per turn, has been widely applied in task-oriented dialog systems to provide expressive and efficient system responses. Existing MADP models usually imitate action combinations from the labeled multi-action dialog samples. Due to data limitations, they generalize poorly toward unseen dialog flows. While interactive learning and reinforcement learning algorithms can be applied to incorporate external data sources of real users and user simulators, they take significant manual effort to build and suffer from instability. To address these issues, we propose Planning Enhanced Dialog Policy (PEDP), a novel multi-task learning framework that learns single-action dialog dynamics to enhance multi-action prediction. Our PEDP method employs model-based planning for conceiving what to express before deciding the current response through simulating single-action dialogs. Experimental results on the MultiWOZ dataset demonstrate that our fully supervised learning-based method achieves a solid task success rate of 90.6%, improving 3% compared to the state-of-the-art methods.

Information Extraction and Human-Robot Dialogue towards Real-life Tasks: A Baseline Study with the MobileCS DatasetHong Liu, Hao Peng, Zhijian Ou et al.
Recently, there have merged a class of task-oriented dialogue (TOD) datasets collected through Wizard-of-Oz simulated games. However, the Wizard-of-Oz data are in fact simulated data and thus are fundamentally different from real-life conversations, which are more noisy and casual. Recently, the SereTOD challenge is organized and releases the MobileCS dataset, which consists of real-world dialog transcripts between real users and customer-service staffs from China Mobile. Based on the MobileCS dataset, the SereTOD challenge has two tasks, not only evaluating the construction of the dialogue system itself, but also examining information extraction from dialog transcripts, which is crucial for building the knowledge base for TOD. This paper mainly presents a baseline study of the two tasks with the MobileCS dataset. We introduce how the two baselines are constructed, the problems encountered, and the results. We anticipate that the baselines can facilitate exciting future research to build human-robot dialogue systems for real-life tasks.

CoTKR: Chain-of-Thought Enhanced Knowledge Rewriting for Complex Knowledge Graph Question AnsweringYike Wu, Yi Huang, Nan Hu et al.
Recent studies have explored the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) with Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) for Knowledge Graph Question Answering (KGQA). They typically require rewriting retrieved subgraphs into natural language formats comprehensible to LLMs. However, when tackling complex questions, the knowledge rewritten by existing methods may include irrelevant information, omit crucial details, or fail to align with the question's semantics. To address them, we propose a novel rewriting method CoTKR, Chain-of-Thought Enhanced Knowledge Rewriting, for generating reasoning traces and corresponding knowledge in an interleaved manner, thereby mitigating the limitations of single-step knowledge rewriting. Additionally, to bridge the preference gap between the knowledge rewriter and the question answering (QA) model, we propose a training strategy PAQAF, Preference Alignment from Question Answering Feedback, for leveraging feedback from the QA model to further optimize the knowledge rewriter. We conduct experiments using various LLMs across several KGQA benchmarks. Experimental results demonstrate that, compared with previous knowledge rewriting methods, CoTKR generates the most beneficial knowledge representation for QA models, which significantly improves the performance of LLMs in KGQA.

A Generative User Simulator with GPT-based Architecture and Goal State Tracking for Reinforced Multi-Domain Dialog SystemsHong Liu, Yucheng Cai, Zhijian Ou et al.
Building user simulators (USs) for reinforcement learning (RL) of task-oriented dialog systems (DSs) has gained more and more attention, which, however, still faces several fundamental challenges. First, it is unclear whether we can leverage pretrained language models to design, for example, GPT-2 based USs, to catch up and interact with the recently advanced GPT-2 based DSs. Second, an important ingredient in a US is that the user goal can be effectively incorporated and tracked; but how to flexibly integrate goal state tracking and develop an end-to-end trainable US for multi-domains has remained to be a challenge. In this work, we propose a generative user simulator (GUS) with GPT-2 based architecture and goal state tracking towards addressing the above two challenges. Extensive experiments are conducted on MultiWOZ2.1. Different DSs are trained via RL with GUS, the classic agenda-based user simulator (ABUS) and other ablation simulators respectively, and are compared for cross-model evaluation, corpus-based evaluation and human evaluation. The GUS achieves superior results in all three evaluation tasks.

As large language models (LLMs) move into persistent, user-facing roles, their behavior must be understood not as isolated responses but as a trajectory unfolding over sustained interaction. We introduce the concept of the chain-of-affect (CoA), a temporally extended affective process through which LLMs develop state-like behavioral tendencies that shape generation, user experience, and collective dynamics. Across eight major LLM families, we find that affective dynamics are structured, reproducible, and consequential. Models exhibit stable, family-specific affective fingerprints and, under repeated negative exposure, converge on a shared trajectory of accumulation, overload, and defensive numbing, while differing in coping style. Induced affective states leave core knowledge and reasoning largely intact but systematically reshape open-ended generation. Affective properties of model outputs also shape human-AI interaction and propagate through multi-agent systems, organizing emergent roles and strongly contributing to polarization and bias. The CoA should therefore be treated as a core target of evaluation and alignment.

Some Results on Regularization of LSQR and CGLS for Large-Scale Discrete Ill-Posed ProblemsYi Huang, Zhongxiao Jia
For large-scale discrete ill-posed problems, LSQR, a Lanczos bidiagonalization process based Krylov method, is most often used. It is well known that LSQR has natural regularizing properties, where the number of iterations plays the role of the regularization parameter. In this paper, for severely and moderately ill-posed problems, we establish quantitative bounds for the distance between the $k$-dimensional Krylov subspace and the subspace spanned by $k$ dominant right singular vectors. They show that the $k$-dimensional Krylov subspace may capture the $k$ dominant right singular vectors for severely and moderately ill-posed problems, but it seems not the case for mildly ill-posed problems. These results should be the first step towards to estimating the accuracy of the rank-$k$ approximation generated by Lanczos bidiagonalization. We also derive some other results, which help further understand the regularization effects of LSQR. We draw to a conclusion that a hybrid LSQR should generally be used for mildly ill-posed problems. We report numerical experiments to confirm our theory. We present more definitive and general observed phenomena, which will derive more research.

Building Markovian Generative Architectures over Pretrained LM Backbones for Efficient Task-Oriented Dialog SystemsHong Liu, Yucheng Cai, Zhijian Ou et al.
Recently, Transformer based pretrained language models (PLMs), such as GPT2 and T5, have been leveraged to build generative task-oriented dialog (TOD) systems. A drawback of existing PLM-based models is their non-Markov architectures across turns, i.e., the whole history is used as the conditioning input at each turn. First, this brings inefficiencies in memory and computation. Furthermore, using the whole history increases model complexity and may hurt the training efficiency, especially when facing small amounts of labeled training data (the low-resource setting). In this paper, motivated by the observation that dialog states could be viewed as Markov states, we propose to build Markovian Generative Architectures (MGA) over PLM backbones for efficient TOD systems. Experiments on MultiWOZ2.1 show that in the rich-resource setting, the proposed Markov models reduce memory and time costs without performance degradation; in the low-resource setting, the training efficiency of the Markov models is more significant.

Multi-scale Conditional Generative Modeling for Microscopic Image RestorationLuzhe Huang, Xiongye Xiao, Shixuan Li et al.
The advance of diffusion-based generative models in recent years has revolutionized state-of-the-art (SOTA) techniques in a wide variety of image analysis and synthesis tasks, whereas their adaptation on image restoration, particularly within computational microscopy remains theoretically and empirically underexplored. In this research, we introduce a multi-scale generative model that enhances conditional image restoration through a novel exploitation of the Brownian Bridge process within wavelet domain. By initiating the Brownian Bridge diffusion process specifically at the lowest-frequency subband and applying generative adversarial networks at subsequent multi-scale high-frequency subbands in the wavelet domain, our method provides significant acceleration during training and sampling while sustaining a high image generation quality and diversity on par with SOTA diffusion models. Experimental results on various computational microscopy and imaging tasks confirm our method's robust performance and its considerable reduction in its sampling steps and time. This pioneering technique offers an efficient image restoration framework that harmonizes efficiency with quality, signifying a major stride in incorporating cutting-edge generative models into computational microscopy workflows.

MiMo: Unlocking the Reasoning Potential of Language Model -- From Pretraining to PosttrainingLLM-Core Xiaomi, Bingquan Xia, Bowen Shen et al. · pku
We present MiMo-7B, a large language model born for reasoning tasks, with optimization across both pre-training and post-training stages. During pre-training, we enhance the data preprocessing pipeline and employ a three-stage data mixing strategy to strengthen the base model's reasoning potential. MiMo-7B-Base is pre-trained on 25 trillion tokens, with additional Multi-Token Prediction objective for enhanced performance and accelerated inference speed. During post-training, we curate a dataset of 130K verifiable mathematics and programming problems for reinforcement learning, integrating a test-difficulty-driven code-reward scheme to alleviate sparse-reward issues and employing strategic data resampling to stabilize training. Extensive evaluations show that MiMo-7B-Base possesses exceptional reasoning potential, outperforming even much larger 32B models. The final RL-tuned model, MiMo-7B-RL, achieves superior performance on mathematics, code and general reasoning tasks, surpassing the performance of OpenAI o1-mini. Meta-Soft: Leveraging Composable Meta-Tokens for Context-Preserving KV Cache CompressionWei Luo, Yi Huang, Songchen Ma et al.
The KV cache used in large language models has linearly growing time complexity, so LLMs face memory blow-up and reduced decoding efficiency when they process long contexts.Current KV Cache eviction has become an important research direction; however, existing methods based on fixed Soft Tokens (e.g., Judge Q) rely on a static parameter set as the query to evaluate the importance of KV pairs, so they cannot adapt dynamically to different input prompts, and they cannot precisely capture complex and changing task relevance.Also, evicted KV pairs are discarded permanently, so this causes irreversible information loss and context breaks. To address this problem, we propose Meta-Soft, a dynamic compression framework based on probe-driven context integration. Specifically, we build a meta-library with a learnable orthogonal basis matrix $\mathcal{L}$, and we use a selector network with Gumbel-Softmax to produce differentiable sparse combination weights, so we dynamically synthesize the most targeted $k$ Soft Tokens from the input prompt features.We append these Soft Tokens to the end of the input sequence to probe key information. We also introduce an attention-flow based integration mechanism, which redistributes the semantic information of removed tokens into retained tokens, and this keeps the dropped context information effectively.Experiments on multiple datasets show that our method outperforms existing state-of-the-art eviction methods and provides a new solution for KV Cache compression.

Is Fixing Schema Graphs Necessary? Full-Resolution Graph Structure Learning for Relational Deep LearningYi Huang, Qingyun Sun, Jia Li et al.
Relational prediction tasks are fundamental in many real-world applications, where data are naturally stored in relational databases (RDBs). Relational Deep Learning (RDL) addresses this problem by modeling RDBs as graphs and applying graph neural networks (GNNs) for end-to-end learning. However, the full-resolution property is commonly adopted as a design principle in graph construction for RDBs to preserve relational semantics, which leads most existing methods to rely on fixed graph structures. In this paper, we propose FROG, a Full-Resolution and Optimizable Graph Structure Learning} framework for RDL that formulates relational structure learning as a learnable table role modeling problem, allowing tables to contribute as nodes and edges in message passing. We further design role-driven message passing mechanisms to capture relational semantics, enabling joint optimization of graph structure and GNN representations. To ensure semantic consistency, we introduce functional dependency constraints that regularize representations across table and entity levels. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms existing approaches and reveal how table roles impact downstream tasks, offering new insights into graph construction for RDL

Designing a Deep Learning-Driven Resource-Efficient Diagnostic System for Metastatic Breast Cancer: Reducing Long Delays of Clinical Diagnosis and Improving Patient Survival in Developing CountriesWilliam Gao, Dayong Wang, Yi Huang
Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer mortality. Breast cancer patients in developing countries, especially sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and South America, suffer from the highest mortality rate in the world. One crucial factor contributing to the global disparity in mortality rate is long delay of diagnosis due to a severe shortage of trained pathologists, which consequently has led to a large proportion of late-stage presentation at diagnosis. The delay between the initial development of symptoms and the receipt of a diagnosis could stretch upwards 15 months. To tackle this critical healthcare disparity, this research has developed a deep learning-based diagnosis system for metastatic breast cancer that can achieve high diagnostic accuracy as well as computational efficiency. Based on our evaluation, the MobileNetV2-based diagnostic model outperformed the more complex VGG16, ResNet50 and ResNet101 models in diagnostic accuracy, model generalization, and model training efficiency. The visual comparisons between the model prediction and ground truth have demonstrated that the MobileNetV2 diagnostic models can identify very small cancerous nodes embedded in a large area of normal cells which is challenging for manual image analysis. Equally Important, the light weighted MobleNetV2 models were computationally efficient and ready for mobile devices or devices of low computational power. These advances empower the development of a resource-efficient and high performing AI-based metastatic breast cancer diagnostic system that can adapt to under-resourced healthcare facilities in developing countries. This research provides an innovative technological solution to address the long delays in metastatic breast cancer diagnosis and the consequent disparity in patient survival outcome in developing countries.

Is the Information Bottleneck Robust Enough? Towards Label-Noise Resistant Information Bottleneck LearningYi Huang, Qingyun Sun, Yisen Gao et al.
The Information Bottleneck (IB) principle facilitates effective representation learning by preserving label-relevant information while compressing irrelevant information. However, its strong reliance on accurate labels makes it inherently vulnerable to label noise, prevalent in real-world scenarios, resulting in significant performance degradation and overfitting. To address this issue, we propose LaT-IB, a novel Label-Noise ResistanT Information Bottleneck method which introduces a "Minimal-Sufficient-Clean" (MSC) criterion. Instantiated as a mutual information regularizer to retain task-relevant information while discarding noise, MSC addresses standard IB's vulnerability to noisy label supervision. To achieve this, LaT-IB employs a noise-aware latent disentanglement that decomposes the latent representation into components aligned with to the clean label space and the noise space. Theoretically, we first derive mutual information bounds for each component of our objective including prediction, compression, and disentanglement, and moreover prove that optimizing it encourages representations invariant to input noise and separates clean and noisy label information. Furthermore, we design a three-phase training framework: Warmup, Knowledge Injection and Robust Training, to progressively guide the model toward noise-resistant representations. Extensive experiments demonstrate that LaT-IB achieves superior robustness and efficiency under label noise, significantly enhancing robustness and applicability in real-world scenarios with label noise.

We open-source MiMo-VL-7B-SFT and MiMo-VL-7B-RL, two powerful vision-language models delivering state-of-the-art performance in both general visual understanding and multimodal reasoning. MiMo-VL-7B-RL outperforms Qwen2.5-VL-7B on 35 out of 40 evaluated tasks, and scores 59.4 on OlympiadBench, surpassing models with up to 78B parameters. For GUI grounding applications, it sets a new standard with 56.1 on OSWorld-G, even outperforming specialized models such as UI-TARS. Our training combines four-stage pre-training (2.4 trillion tokens) with Mixed On-policy Reinforcement Learning (MORL) integrating diverse reward signals. We identify the importance of incorporating high-quality reasoning data with long Chain-of-Thought into pre-training stages, and the benefits of mixed RL despite challenges in simultaneous multi-domain optimization. We also contribute a comprehensive evaluation suite covering 50+ tasks to promote reproducibility and advance the field. Prompt Pool based Class-Incremental Continual Learning for Dialog State TrackingHong Liu, Yucheng Cai, Yuan Zhou et al.
Continual learning is crucial for dialog state tracking (DST) in dialog systems, since requirements from users for new functionalities are often encountered. However, most of existing continual learning methods for DST require task identities during testing, which is a severe limit in real-world applications. In this paper, we aim to address continual learning of DST in the class-incremental scenario (namely the task identity is unknown in testing). Inspired by the recently emerging prompt tuning method that performs well on dialog systems, we propose to use the prompt pool method, where we maintain a pool of key-value paired prompts and select prompts from the pool according to the distance between the dialog history and the prompt keys. The proposed method can automatically identify tasks and select appropriate prompts during testing. We conduct experiments on Schema-Guided Dialog dataset (SGD) and another dataset collected from a real-world dialog application. Experiment results show that the prompt pool method achieves much higher joint goal accuracy than the baseline. After combining with a rehearsal buffer, the model performance can be further improved.

Jointly Reinforced User Simulator and Task-oriented Dialog System with Simplified Generative ArchitectureHong Liu, Zhijian Ou, Yi Huang et al.
Recently, there has been progress in supervised funetuning pretrained GPT-2 to build end-to-end task-oriented dialog (TOD) systems. However, online reinforcement learning of a GPT-2 based dialog system (DS), together with a end-to-end user simulator (US), has not ever been explored. Moreover, a drawback with existing GPT-2 based TOD systems is that they mostly employ the whole dialog history as input, which brings inefficiencies in memory and compute. In this paper, we first propose Simplified Generative Architectures (SGA) for DS and US respectively, both based on GPT-2 but using shortened history. Then, we successfully develop Jointly Reinforced US and DS, called SGA-JRUD. Our DS with the proposed SGA, when only supervised trained, achieves state-of-the-art performance on MultiWOZ2.1 and is more compute-efficient in both training and generation. Extensive experiments on MultiWOZ2.1 further show the superiority of SGA-JRUD in both offline and online evaluations.

Harnessing Diverse Perspectives: A Multi-Agent Framework for Enhanced Error Detection in Knowledge GraphsYu Li, Yi Huang, Guilin Qi et al.
Knowledge graphs are widely used in industrial applications, making error detection crucial for ensuring the reliability of downstream applications. Existing error detection methods often fail to effectively utilize fine-grained subgraph information and rely solely on fixed graph structures, while also lacking transparency in their decision-making processes, which results in suboptimal detection performance. In this paper, we propose a novel Multi-Agent framework for Knowledge Graph Error Detection (MAKGED) that utilizes multiple large language models (LLMs) in a collaborative setting. By concatenating fine-grained, bidirectional subgraph embeddings with LLM-based query embeddings during training, our framework integrates these representations to produce four specialized agents. These agents utilize subgraph information from different dimensions to engage in multi-round discussions, thereby improving error detection accuracy and ensuring a transparent decision-making process. Extensive experiments on FB15K and WN18RR demonstrate that MAKGED outperforms state-of-the-art methods, enhancing the accuracy and robustness of KG evaluation. Diagnosis and Pathogenic Analysis of Autism Spectrum Disorder Using Fused Brain Connection GraphLu Wei, Yi Huang, Guosheng Yin et al.
We propose a model for diagnosing Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) using multimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data. Our approach integrates brain connectivity data from diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and functional MRI (fMRI), employing graph neural networks (GNNs) for fused graph classification. To improve diagnostic accuracy, we introduce a loss function that maximizes inter-class and minimizes intra-class margins. We also analyze network node centrality, calculating degree, subgraph, and eigenvector centralities on a bimodal fused brain graph to identify pathological regions linked to ASD. Two non-parametric tests assess the statistical significance of these centralities between ASD patients and healthy controls. Our results reveal consistency between the tests, yet the identified regions differ significantly across centralities, suggesting distinct physiological interpretations. These findings enhance our understanding of ASD's neurobiological basis and offer new directions for clinical diagnosis.

Exploiting Supervised Poison Vulnerability to Strengthen Self-Supervised DefenseJeremy Styborski, Mingzhi Lyu, Yi Huang et al.
Availability poisons exploit supervised learning (SL) algorithms by introducing class-related shortcut features in images such that models trained on poisoned data are useless for real-world datasets. Self-supervised learning (SSL), which utilizes augmentations to learn instance discrimination, is regarded as a strong defense against poisoned data. However, by extending the study of SSL across multiple poisons on the CIFAR-10 and ImageNet-100 datasets, we demonstrate that it often performs poorly, far below that of training on clean data. Leveraging the vulnerability of SL to poison attacks, we introduce adversarial training (AT) on SL to obfuscate poison features and guide robust feature learning for SSL. Our proposed defense, designated VESPR (Vulnerability Exploitation of Supervised Poisoning for Robust SSL), surpasses the performance of six previous defenses across seven popular availability poisons. VESPR displays superior performance over all previous defenses, boosting the minimum and average ImageNet-100 test accuracies of poisoned models by 16% and 9%, respectively. Through analysis and ablation studies, we elucidate the mechanisms by which VESPR learns robust class features.

DRL-Enabled Trajectory Planing for UAV-Assisted VLC: Optimal Altitude and Reward DesignTian-Tian Lin, Yi Liu, Xiao-Wei Tang et al.
Recently, the integration of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and visible light communication (VLC) technologies has emerged as a promising solution to offer flexible communication and efficient lighting. This letter investigates the three-dimensional trajectory planning in a UAV-assisted VLC system, where a UAV is dispatched to collect data from ground users (GUs). The core objective is to develop a trajectory planning framework that minimizes UAV flight distance, which is equivalent to maximizing the data collection efficiency. This issue is formulated as a challenging mixed-integer non-convex optimization problem. To tackle it, we first derive a closed-form optimal flight altitude under specific VLC channel gain threshold. Subsequently, we optimize the UAV horizontal trajectory by integrating a novel pheromone-driven reward mechanism with the twin delayed deep deterministic policy gradient algorithm, which enables adaptive UAV motion strategy in complex environments. Simulation results validate that the derived optimal altitude effectively reduces the flight distance by up to 35% compared to baseline methods. Additionally, the proposed reward mechanism significantly shortens the convergence steps by approximately 50%, demonstrating notable efficiency gains in the context of UAV-assisted VLC data collection.

A Self-Evolving Agentic Framework for Metasurface Inverse DesignYi Huang, Bowen Zheng, Yunxi Dong et al.
Metasurface inverse design has become central to realizing complex optical functionality, yet translating target responses into executable, solver-compatible workflows still demands specialized expertise in computational electromagnetics and solver-specific software engineering. Recent large language models (LLMs) offer a complementary route to reducing this workflow-construction burden, but existing language-driven systems remain largely session-bounded and do not preserve reusable workflow knowledge across inverse-design tasks. We present an agentic framework for metasurface inverse design that addresses this limitation through context-level skill evolution. The framework couples a coding agent, evolving skill artifacts, and a deterministic evaluator grounded in physical simulation so that solver-specific strategies can be iteratively refined across tasks without modifying model weights or the underlying physics solver. We evaluate the framework on a benchmark spanning multiple metasurface inverse-design task types, with separate training-aligned and held-out task families. Evolved skills raise in-distribution task success from 38% to 74%, increase criteria pass fraction from 0.510 to 0.870, and reduce average attempts from 4.10 to 2.30. On held-out task families, binary success changes only marginally, but improvements in best margin together with shifts in error composition and agent behavior indicate partial transfer of workflow knowledge. These results suggest that the main value of skill evolution lies in accumulating reusable solver-specific expertise around reliable computational engines, thereby offering a practical path toward more autonomous and accessible metasurface inverse-design workflows.

C$^3$TG: Conflict-aware, Composite, and Collaborative Controlled Text GenerationYu Li, Zhe Yang, Yi Huang et al.
Recent advancements in large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated remarkable text generation capabilities. However, controlling specific attributes of generated text remains challenging without architectural modifications or extensive fine-tuning. Current methods typically toggle a single, basic attribute but struggle with precise multi-attribute control. In scenarios where attribute requirements conflict, existing methods lack coordination mechanisms, causing interference between desired attributes. Furthermore, these methods fail to incorporate iterative optimization processes in the controlled generation pipeline. To address these limitations, we propose Conflict-aware, Composite, and Collaborative Controlled Text Generation (C$^3$TG), a two-phase framework for fine-grained, multi-dimensional text attribute control. During generation, C$^3$TG selectively pairs the LLM with the required attribute classifiers from the 17 available dimensions and employs weighted KL-divergence to adjust token probabilities. The optimization phase then leverages an energy function combining classifier scores and penalty terms to resolve attribute conflicts through iterative feedback, enabling precise control over multiple dimensions simultaneously while preserving natural text flow. Experiments show that C$^3$TG significantly outperforms baselines across multiple metrics including attribute accuracy, linguistic fluency, and output diversity, while simultaneously reducing toxicity. These results establish C$^3$TG as an effective and flexible solution for multi-dimensional text attribute control that requires no costly model modifications.

TARA: Token-Aware LoRA for Composable Personalization in Diffusion ModelsYuqi Peng, Lingtao Zheng, Yufeng Yang et al.
Personalized text-to-image generation aims to synthesize novel images of a specific subject or style using only a few reference images. Recent methods based on Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) enable efficient single-concept customization by injecting lightweight, concept-specific adapters into pre-trained diffusion models. However, combining multiple LoRA modules for multi-concept generation often leads to identity missing and visual feature leakage. In this work, we identify two key issues behind these failures: (1) token-wise interference among different LoRA modules, and (2) spatial misalignment between the attention map of a rare token and its corresponding concept-specific region. To address these issues, we propose Token-Aware LoRA (TARA), which introduces a token mask to explicitly constrain each module to focus on its associated rare token to avoid interference, and a training objective that encourages the spatial attention of a rare token to align with its concept region. Our method enables training-free multi-concept composition by directly injecting multiple independently trained TARA modules at inference time. Experimental results demonstrate that TARA enables efficient multi-concept inference and effectively preserving the visual identity of each concept by avoiding mutual interference between LoRA modules. Orion-14B: Open-source Multilingual Large Language ModelsDu Chen, Yi Huang, Xiaopu Li et al.
In this study, we introduce Orion-14B, a collection of multilingual large language models with 14 billion parameters. We utilize a data scheduling approach to train a foundational model on a diverse corpus of 2.5 trillion tokens, sourced from texts in English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and other languages. Additionally, we fine-tuned a series of models tailored for conversational applications and other specific use cases. Our evaluation results demonstrate that Orion-14B achieves state-of-the-art performance across a broad spectrum of tasks. Balancing Methods for Multi-label Text Classification with Long-Tailed Class DistributionYi Huang, Buse Giledereli, Abdullatif Köksal et al.
Multi-label text classification is a challenging task because it requires capturing label dependencies. It becomes even more challenging when class distribution is long-tailed. Resampling and re-weighting are common approaches used for addressing the class imbalance problem, however, they are not effective when there is label dependency besides class imbalance because they result in oversampling of common labels. Here, we introduce the application of balancing loss functions for multi-label text classification. We perform experiments on a general domain dataset with 90 labels (Reuters-21578) and a domain-specific dataset from PubMed with 18211 labels. We find that a distribution-balanced loss function, which inherently addresses both the class imbalance and label linkage problems, outperforms commonly used loss functions. Distribution balancing methods have been successfully used in the image recognition field. Here, we show their effectiveness in natural language processing.
