Learning a Practical SDR-to-HDRTV Up-conversion using New Dataset and Degradation ModelsCheng Guo, Leidong Fan, Ziyu Xue et al.
In media industry, the demand of SDR-to-HDRTV up-conversion arises when users possess HDR-WCG (high dynamic range-wide color gamut) TVs while most off-the-shelf footage is still in SDR (standard dynamic range). The research community has started tackling this low-level vision task by learning-based approaches. When applied to real SDR, yet, current methods tend to produce dim and desaturated result, making nearly no improvement on viewing experience. Different from other network-oriented methods, we attribute such deficiency to training set (HDR-SDR pair). Consequently, we propose new HDRTV dataset (dubbed HDRTV4K) and new HDR-to-SDR degradation models. Then, it's used to train a luminance-segmented network (LSN) consisting of a global mapping trunk, and two Transformer branches on bright and dark luminance range. We also update assessment criteria by tailored metrics and subjective experiment. Finally, ablation studies are conducted to prove the effectiveness. Redistributing the Precision and Content in 3D-LUT-based Inverse Tone-mapping for HDR/WCG DisplayCheng Guo, Leidong Fan, Qian Zhang et al.
ITM(inverse tone-mapping) converts SDR (standard dynamic range) footage to HDR/WCG (high dynamic range /wide color gamut) for media production. It happens not only when remastering legacy SDR footage in front-end content provider, but also adapting on-theair SDR service on user-end HDR display. The latter requires more efficiency, thus the pre-calculated LUT (look-up table) has become a popular solution. Yet, conventional fixed LUT lacks adaptability, so we learn from research community and combine it with AI. Meanwhile, higher-bit-depth HDR/WCG requires larger LUT than SDR, so we consult traditional ITM for an efficiency-performance trade-off: We use 3 smaller LUTs, each has a non-uniform packing (precision) respectively denser in dark, middle and bright luma range. In this case, their results will have less error only in their own range, so we use a contribution map to combine their best parts to final result. With the guidance of this map, the elements (content) of 3 LUTs will also be redistributed during training. We conduct ablation studies to verify method's effectiveness, and subjective and objective experiments to show its practicability. Code is available at: https://github.com/AndreGuo/ITMLUT.

WMAttack: Automated Attack Search for Adversarial Evaluation of World-Model AgentsZhixiang Guo, Siyuan Liang, Shi Fu et al.
Despite the growing use of world models as decision-making agents, their adversarial robustness remains underexplored due to the lack of dedicated automated evaluation methods. A key obstacle is that attack evaluation must be both accurate and efficient: weak manually tuned attacks can overestimate robustness, while exhaustive hyperparameter search is prohibitively expensive because each candidate requires closed-loop rollouts through learned latent dynamics. We introduce WMAttack, an automated attack-search framework for adversarial evaluation of world-model agents. WMAttack formulates robustness evaluation as a finite-budget search over attack configurations, including attack families, perturbation budgets, optimization steps, restarts, and allocation rules. To improve search accuracy, Self-Correcting Attack Search (SCAS) refines the attack proposal distribution using feedback from reward degradation, action instability, runtime cost, and rollout variability. To improve search efficiency, Representation-Guided Attack Retrieval (RGAR) retrieves effective historical configurations from representation-similar tasks, providing a warm start for unseen environments. We provide a theoretical explanation showing that proposal refinement improves finite-budget search when it shifts probability mass toward high-utility attacks. Across Atari and DeepMind Control tasks, WMAttack consistently discovers stronger attacks than the evaluated baselines, improving normalized reward drop from 0.497 to 1.034 on DreamerV3 Atari and from 0.319 to 0.682 on DMC. Ablations further show that RGAR improves initial candidate quality and SCAS improves final attack utility under fixed evaluation budgets.

Concealed Object Detection for Passive Millimeter-Wave Security Imaging Based on Task-Aligned Detection TransformerCheng Guo, Fei Hu, Yan Hu
Passive millimeter-wave (PMMW) is a significant potential technique for human security screening. Several popular object detection networks have been used for PMMW images. However, restricted by the low resolution and high noise of PMMW images, PMMW hidden object detection based on deep learning usually suffers from low accuracy and low classification confidence. To tackle the above problems, this paper proposes a Task-Aligned Detection Transformer network, named PMMW-DETR. In the first stage, a Denoising Coarse-to-Fine Transformer (DCFT) backbone is designed to extract long- and short-range features in the different scales. In the second stage, we propose the Query Selection module to introduce learned spatial features into the network as prior knowledge, which enhances the semantic perception capability of the network. In the third stage, aiming to improve the classification performance, we perform a Task-Aligned Dual-Head block to decouple the classification and regression tasks. Based on our self-developed PMMW security screening dataset, experimental results including comparison with State-Of-The-Art (SOTA) methods and ablation study demonstrate that the PMMW-DETR obtains higher accuracy and classification confidence than previous works, and exhibits robustness to the PMMW images of low quality.

LHDR: HDR Reconstruction for Legacy Content using a Lightweight DNNCheng Guo, Xiuhua Jiang
High dynamic range (HDR) image is widely-used in graphics and photography due to the rich information it contains. Recently the community has started using deep neural network (DNN) to reconstruct standard dynamic range (SDR) images into HDR. Albeit the superiority of current DNN-based methods, their application scenario is still limited: (1) heavy model impedes real-time processing, and (2) inapplicable to legacy SDR content with more degradation types. Therefore, we propose a lightweight DNN-based method trained to tackle legacy SDR. For better design, we reform the problem modeling and emphasize degradation model. Experiments show that our method reached appealing performance with minimal computational cost compared with others.

FinRobot: An Open-Source AI Agent Platform for Financial Applications using Large Language ModelsHongyang Yang, Boyu Zhang, Neng Wang et al.
As financial institutions and professionals increasingly incorporate Large Language Models (LLMs) into their workflows, substantial barriers, including proprietary data and specialized knowledge, persist between the finance sector and the AI community. These challenges impede the AI community's ability to enhance financial tasks effectively. Acknowledging financial analysis's critical role, we aim to devise financial-specialized LLM-based toolchains and democratize access to them through open-source initiatives, promoting wider AI adoption in financial decision-making. In this paper, we introduce FinRobot, a novel open-source AI agent platform supporting multiple financially specialized AI agents, each powered by LLM. Specifically, the platform consists of four major layers: 1) the Financial AI Agents layer that formulates Financial Chain-of-Thought (CoT) by breaking sophisticated financial problems down into logical sequences; 2) the Financial LLM Algorithms layer dynamically configures appropriate model application strategies for specific tasks; 3) the LLMOps and DataOps layer produces accurate models by applying training/fine-tuning techniques and using task-relevant data; 4) the Multi-source LLM Foundation Models layer that integrates various LLMs and enables the above layers to access them directly. Finally, FinRobot provides hands-on for both professional-grade analysts and laypersons to utilize powerful AI techniques for advanced financial analysis. Efficient Representation of Natural Image PatchesCheng Guo
Utilizing an abstract information processing model based on minimal yet realistic assumptions inspired by biological systems, we study how to achieve the early visual system's two ultimate objectives: efficient information transmission and accurate sensor probability distribution modeling. We prove that optimizing for information transmission does not guarantee optimal probability distribution modeling in general. We illustrate, using a two-pixel (2D) system and image patches, that an efficient representation can be realized through a nonlinear population code driven by two types of biologically plausible loss functions that depend solely on output. After unsupervised learning, our abstract information processing model bears remarkable resemblances to biological systems, despite not mimicking many features of real neurons, such as spiking activity. A preliminary comparison with a contemporary deep learning model suggests that our model offers a significant efficiency advantage. Our model provides novel insights into the computational theory of early visual systems as well as a potential new approach to enhance the efficiency of deep learning models.

Monocular Models are Strong Learners for Multi-View Human Mesh RecoveryHaoyu Xie, Shengkai Xu, Cheng Guo et al.
Multi-view human mesh recovery (HMR) is broadly deployed in diverse domains where high accuracy and strong generalization are essential. Existing approaches can be broadly grouped into geometry-based and learning-based methods. However, geometry-based methods (e.g., triangulation) rely on cumbersome camera calibration, while learning-based approaches often generalize poorly to unseen camera configurations due to the lack of multi-view training data, limiting their performance in real-world scenarios. To enable calibration-free reconstruction that generalizes to arbitrary camera setups, we propose a training-free framework that leverages pretrained single-view HMR models as strong priors, eliminating the need for multi-view training data. Our method first constructs a robust and consistent multi-view initialization from single-view predictions, and then refines it via test-time optimization guided by multi-view consistency and anatomical constraints. Extensive experiments demonstrate state-of-the-art performance on standard benchmarks, surpassing multi-view models trained with explicit multi-view supervision.

Transferable Deployment of Semantic Edge Inference Systems via Unsupervised Domain AdaptionWeiqiang Jiao, Suzhi Bi, Xian Li et al.
This paper investigates deploying semantic edge inference systems for performing a common image clarification task. In particular, each system consists of multiple Internet of Things (IoT) devices that first locally encode the sensing data into semantic features and then transmit them to an edge server for subsequent data fusion and task inference. The inference accuracy is determined by efficient training of the feature encoder/decoder using labeled data samples. Due to the difference in sensing data and communication channel distributions, deploying the system in a new environment may induce high costs in annotating data labels and re-training the encoder/decoder models. To achieve cost-effective transferable system deployment, we propose an efficient Domain Adaptation method for Semantic Edge INference systems (DASEIN) that can maintain high inference accuracy in a new environment without the need for labeled samples. Specifically, DASEIN exploits the task-relevant data correlation between different deployment scenarios by leveraging the techniques of unsupervised domain adaptation and knowledge distillation. It devises an efficient two-step adaptation procedure that sequentially aligns the data distributions and adapts to the channel variations. Numerical results show that, under a substantial change in sensing data distributions, the proposed DASEIN outperforms the best-performing benchmark method by 7.09% and 21.33% in inference accuracy when the new environment has similar or 25 dB lower channel signal to noise power ratios (SNRs), respectively. This verifies the effectiveness of the proposed method in adapting both data and channel distributions in practical transfer deployment applications.

Online Action Recognition for Human Risk Prediction with Anticipated Haptic Alert via WearablesCheng Guo, Lorenzo Rapetti, Kourosh Darvish et al.
This paper proposes a framework that combines online human state estimation, action recognition and motion prediction to enable early assessment and prevention of worker biomechanical risk during lifting tasks. The framework leverages the NIOSH index to perform online risk assessment, thus fitting real-time applications. In particular, the human state is retrieved via inverse kinematics/dynamics algorithms from wearable sensor data. Human action recognition and motion prediction are achieved by implementing an LSTM-based Guided Mixture of Experts architecture, which is trained offline and inferred online. With the recognized actions, a single lifting activity is divided into a series of continuous movements and the Revised NIOSH Lifting Equation can be applied for risk assessment. Moreover, the predicted motions enable anticipation of future risks. A haptic actuator, embedded in the wearable system, can alert the subject of potential risk, acting as an active prevention device. The performance of the proposed framework is validated by executing real lifting tasks, while the subject is equipped with the iFeel wearable system.

Physics-Informed Learning for Human Whole-Body Kinematics Prediction via Sparse IMUsCheng Guo, Giuseppe L'Erario, Giulio Romualdi et al.
Accurate and physically feasible human motion prediction is crucial for safe and seamless human-robot collaboration. While recent advancements in human motion capture enable real-time pose estimation, the practical value of many existing approaches is limited by the lack of future predictions and consideration of physical constraints. Conventional motion prediction schemes rely heavily on past poses, which are not always available in real-world scenarios. To address these limitations, we present a physics-informed learning framework that integrates domain knowledge into both training and inference to predict human motion using inertial measurements from only 5 IMUs. We propose a network that accounts for the spatial characteristics of human movements. During training, we incorporate forward and differential kinematics functions as additional loss components to regularize the learned joint predictions. At the inference stage, we refine the prediction from the previous iteration to update a joint state buffer, which is used as extra inputs to the network. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach achieves high accuracy, smooth transitions between motions, and generalizes well to unseen subjects

Semantic Dense Reconstruction with Consistent Scene SegmentsYingcai Wan, Yanyan Li, Yingxuan You et al.
In this paper, a method for dense semantic 3D scene reconstruction from an RGB-D sequence is proposed to solve high-level scene understanding tasks. First, each RGB-D pair is consistently segmented into 2D semantic maps based on a camera tracking backbone that propagates objects' labels with high probabilities from full scans to corresponding ones of partial views. Then a dense 3D mesh model of an unknown environment is incrementally generated from the input RGB-D sequence. Benefiting from 2D consistent semantic segments and the 3D model, a novel semantic projection block (SP-Block) is proposed to extract deep feature volumes from 2D segments of different views. Moreover, the semantic volumes are fused into deep volumes from a point cloud encoder to make the final semantic segmentation. Extensive experimental evaluations on public datasets show that our system achieves accurate 3D dense reconstruction and state-of-the-art semantic prediction performances simultaneously.

Rapid Whole Slide Imaging via Learning-based Two-shot Virtual AutofocusingQiang Li, Xianming Liu, Kaige Han et al.
Whole slide imaging (WSI) is an emerging technology for digital pathology. The process of autofocusing is the main influence of the performance of WSI. Traditional autofocusing methods either are time-consuming due to repetitive mechanical motions, or require additional hardware and thus are not compatible to current WSI systems. In this paper, we propose the concept of \textit{virtual autofocusing}, which does not rely on mechanical adjustment to conduct refocusing but instead recovers in-focus images in an offline learning-based manner. With the initial focal position, we only perform two-shot imaging, in contrast traditional methods commonly need to conduct as many as 21 times image shooting in each tile scanning. Considering that the two captured out-of-focus images retain pieces of partial information about the underlying in-focus image, we propose a U-Net-inspired deep neural network based approach for fusing them into a recovered in-focus image. The proposed scheme is fast in tissue slides scanning, enabling a high-throughput generation of digital pathology images. Experimental results demonstrate that our scheme achieves satisfactory refocusing performance.

POG: Personalized Outfit Generation for Fashion Recommendation at Alibaba iFashionWen Chen, Pipei Huang, Jiaming Xu et al.
Increasing demand for fashion recommendation raises a lot of challenges for online shopping platforms and fashion communities. In particular, there exist two requirements for fashion outfit recommendation: the Compatibility of the generated fashion outfits, and the Personalization in the recommendation process. In this paper, we demonstrate these two requirements can be satisfied via building a bridge between outfit generation and recommendation. Through large data analysis, we observe that people have similar tastes in individual items and outfits. Therefore, we propose a Personalized Outfit Generation (POG) model, which connects user preferences regarding individual items and outfits with Transformer architecture. Extensive offline and online experiments provide strong quantitative evidence that our method outperforms alternative methods regarding both compatibility and personalization metrics. Furthermore, we deploy POG on a platform named Dida in Alibaba to generate personalized outfits for the users of the online application iFashion. This work represents a first step towards an industrial-scale fashion outfit generation and recommendation solution, which goes beyond generating outfits based on explicit queries, or merely recommending from existing outfit pools. As part of this work, we release a large-scale dataset consisting of 1.01 million outfits with rich context information, and 0.28 billion user click actions from 3.57 million users. To the best of our knowledge, this dataset is the largest, publicly available, fashion related dataset, and the first to provide user behaviors relating to both outfits and fashion items.

Entity Embeddings of Categorical VariablesCheng Guo, Felix Berkhahn
We map categorical variables in a function approximation problem into Euclidean spaces, which are the entity embeddings of the categorical variables. The mapping is learned by a neural network during the standard supervised training process. Entity embedding not only reduces memory usage and speeds up neural networks compared with one-hot encoding, but more importantly by mapping similar values close to each other in the embedding space it reveals the intrinsic properties of the categorical variables. We applied it successfully in a recent Kaggle competition and were able to reach the third position with relative simple features. We further demonstrate in this paper that entity embedding helps the neural network to generalize better when the data is sparse and statistics is unknown. Thus it is especially useful for datasets with lots of high cardinality features, where other methods tend to overfit. We also demonstrate that the embeddings obtained from the trained neural network boost the performance of all tested machine learning methods considerably when used as the input features instead. As entity embedding defines a distance measure for categorical variables it can be used for visualizing categorical data and for data clustering.
