HardSATGEN: Understanding the Difficulty of Hard SAT Formula Generation and A Strong Structure-Hardness-Aware BaselineYang Li, Xinyan Chen, Wenxuan Guo et al.
Industrial SAT formula generation is a critical yet challenging task. Existing SAT generation approaches can hardly simultaneously capture the global structural properties and maintain plausible computational hardness. We first present an in-depth analysis for the limitation of previous learning methods in reproducing the computational hardness of original instances, which may stem from the inherent homogeneity in their adopted split-merge procedure. On top of the observations that industrial formulae exhibit clear community structure and oversplit substructures lead to the difficulty in semantic formation of logical structures, we propose HardSATGEN, which introduces a fine-grained control mechanism to the neural split-merge paradigm for SAT formula generation to better recover the structural and computational properties of the industrial benchmarks. Experiments including evaluations on private and practical corporate testbed show the superiority of HardSATGEN being the only method to successfully augment formulae maintaining similar computational hardness and capturing the global structural properties simultaneously. Compared to the best previous methods, the average performance gains achieve 38.5% in structural statistics, 88.4% in computational metrics, and over 140.7% in the effectiveness of guiding solver tuning by our generated instances. Human-M3: A Multi-view Multi-modal Dataset for 3D Human Pose Estimation in Outdoor ScenesBohao Fan, Siqi Wang, Wenxuan Guo et al.
3D human pose estimation in outdoor environments has garnered increasing attention recently. However, prevalent 3D human pose datasets pertaining to outdoor scenes lack diversity, as they predominantly utilize only one type of modality (RGB image or pointcloud), and often feature only one individual within each scene. This limited scope of dataset infrastructure considerably hinders the variability of available data. In this article, we propose Human-M3, an outdoor multi-modal multi-view multi-person human pose database which includes not only multi-view RGB videos of outdoor scenes but also corresponding pointclouds. In order to obtain accurate human poses, we propose an algorithm based on multi-modal data input to generate ground truth annotation. This benefits from robust pointcloud detection and tracking, which solves the problem of inaccurate human localization and matching ambiguity that may exist in previous multi-view RGB videos in outdoor multi-person scenes, and generates reliable ground truth annotations. Evaluation of multiple different modalities algorithms has shown that this database is challenging and suitable for future research. Furthermore, we propose a 3D human pose estimation algorithm based on multi-modal data input, which demonstrates the advantages of multi-modal data input for 3D human pose estimation. Machine Learning Methods in Solving the Boolean Satisfiability ProblemWenxuan Guo, Junchi Yan, Hui-Ling Zhen et al.
This paper reviews the recent literature on solving the Boolean satisfiability problem (SAT), an archetypal NP-complete problem, with the help of machine learning techniques. Despite the great success of modern SAT solvers to solve large industrial instances, the design of handcrafted heuristics is time-consuming and empirical. Under the circumstances, the flexible and expressive machine learning methods provide a proper alternative to solve this long-standing problem. We examine the evolving ML-SAT solvers from naive classifiers with handcrafted features to the emerging end-to-end SAT solvers such as NeuroSAT, as well as recent progress on combinations of existing CDCL and local search solvers with machine learning methods. Overall, solving SAT with machine learning is a promising yet challenging research topic. We conclude the limitations of current works and suggest possible future directions.

Distinguishing representational geometries with controversial stimuli: Bayesian experimental design and its application to face dissimilarity judgmentsTal Golan, Wenxuan Guo, Heiko H. Schütt et al.
Comparing representations of complex stimuli in neural network layers to human brain representations or behavioral judgments can guide model development. However, even qualitatively distinct neural network models often predict similar representational geometries of typical stimulus sets. We propose a Bayesian experimental design approach to synthesizing stimulus sets for adjudicating among representational models efficiently. We apply our method to discriminate among candidate neural network models of behavioral face dissimilarity judgments. Our results indicate that a neural network trained to invert a 3D-face-model graphics renderer is more human-aligned than the same architecture trained on identification, classification, or autoencoding. Our proposed stimulus synthesis objective is generally applicable to designing experiments to be analyzed by representational similarity analysis for model comparison.

Beyond Next-Token Alignment: Distilling Multimodal Large Language Models via Token InteractionsLin Chen, Xiaoke Zhao, Kun Ding et al.
Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) demonstrate impressive cross-modal capabilities, yet their substantial size poses significant deployment challenges. Knowledge distillation (KD) is a promising solution for compressing these models, but existing methods primarily rely on static next-token alignment, neglecting the dynamic token interactions, which embed essential capabilities for multimodal understanding and generation. To this end, we introduce Align-TI, a novel KD framework designed from the perspective of Token Interactions. Our approach is motivated by the insight that MLLMs rely on two primary interactions: vision-instruction token interactions to extract relevant visual information, and intra-response token interactions for coherent generation. Accordingly, Align-TI introduces two components: IVA enables the student model to imitate the teacher's instruction-relevant visual information extract capability by aligning on salient visual regions. TPA captures the teacher's dynamic generative logic by aligning the sequential token-to-token transition probabilities. Extensive experiments demonstrate Align-TI's superiority. Notably, our approach achieves $2.6\%$ relative improvement over Vanilla KD, and our distilled Align-TI-2B even outperforms LLaVA-1.5-7B (a much larger MLLM) by $7.0\%$, establishing a new state-of-the-art distillation framework for training parameter-efficient MLLMs. Code is available at https://github.com/lchen1019/Align-TI.

Camera-LiDAR Cross-modality Gait RecognitionWenxuan Guo, Yingping Liang, Zhiyu Pan et al.
Gait recognition is a crucial biometric identification technique. Camera-based gait recognition has been widely applied in both research and industrial fields. LiDAR-based gait recognition has also begun to evolve most recently, due to the provision of 3D structural information. However, in certain applications, cameras fail to recognize persons, such as in low-light environments and long-distance recognition scenarios, where LiDARs work well. On the other hand, the deployment cost and complexity of LiDAR systems limit its wider application. Therefore, it is essential to consider cross-modality gait recognition between cameras and LiDARs for a broader range of applications. In this work, we propose the first cross-modality gait recognition framework between Camera and LiDAR, namely CL-Gait. It employs a two-stream network for feature embedding of both modalities. This poses a challenging recognition task due to the inherent matching between 3D and 2D data, exhibiting significant modality discrepancy. To align the feature spaces of the two modalities, i.e., camera silhouettes and LiDAR points, we propose a contrastive pre-training strategy to mitigate modality discrepancy. To make up for the absence of paired camera-LiDAR data for pre-training, we also introduce a strategy for generating data on a large scale. This strategy utilizes monocular depth estimated from single RGB images and virtual cameras to generate pseudo point clouds for contrastive pre-training. Extensive experiments show that the cross-modality gait recognition is very challenging but still contains potential and feasibility with our proposed model and pre-training strategy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to address cross-modality gait recognition.

A Flexible Multi-view Multi-modal Imaging System for Outdoor ScenesMeng Zhang, Wenxuan Guo, Bohao Fan et al.
Multi-view imaging systems enable uniform coverage of 3D space and reduce the impact of occlusion, which is beneficial for 3D object detection and tracking accuracy. However, existing imaging systems built with multi-view cameras or depth sensors are limited by the small applicable scene and complicated composition. In this paper, we propose a wireless multi-view multi-modal 3D imaging system generally applicable to large outdoor scenes, which consists of a master node and several slave nodes. Multiple spatially distributed slave nodes equipped with cameras and LiDARs are connected to form a wireless sensor network. While providing flexibility and scalability, the system applies automatic spatio-temporal calibration techniques to obtain accurate 3D multi-view multi-modal data. This system is the first imaging system that integrates mutli-view RGB cameras and LiDARs in large outdoor scenes among existing 3D imaging systems. We perform point clouds based 3D object detection and long-term tracking using the 3D imaging dataset collected by this system. The experimental results show that multi-view point clouds greatly improve 3D object detection and tracking accuracy regardless of complex and various outdoor environments.

AwareVLN: Reasoning with Self-awareness for Vision-Language NavigationWenxuan Guo, Xiuwei Xu, Yichen Liu et al.
Vision-and-Language Navigation (VLN) requires an agent to ground language instructions to its own movement within a visual environment. While state-of-the-art methods leverage the reasoning capabilities of Vision-Language Models (VLMs) for end-to-end action prediction, they often lack an explicit and explainable understanding of the relationships between the agent, the instruction, and the scene. Conversely, explicitly building a scene map for heuristic planning is intuitively appealing but relies on additional 3D sensors and hinders large-scale vision-language pre-training. To bridge this gap, we propose AwareVLN, a novel framework that equips the navigation model with a self-aware reasoning mechanism, enabling it to understand the agent's state and task progress in a fully end-to-end and data-driven manner. Our approach features two key innovations: (1) a structural reasoning module that fosters spatial and task-oriented self-awareness, and (2) an automatic data engine with progress division for effective training. Extensive experiments on various datasets in Habitat simulator show our AwareVLN significantly outperforms previous state-of-the-art vision-language navigation methods. GesVLA: Gesture-Aware Vision-Language-Action Model Embedded RepresentationsWenxuan Guo, Ziyuan Li, Meng Zhang et al.
Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models have shown strong potential for general-purpose robot manipulation by unifying perception and action. However, existing VLA systems primarily rely on textual instructions and struggle to resolve spatial ambiguity in complex scenes with multiple similar objects. To address this limitation, we introduce gesture as a parallel instruction modality and propose a Gesture-aware Vision-Language-Action model (GesVLA). Our approach encodes gesture features directly into the latent space, enabling them to participate in both high-level reasoning and low-level action generation, and adopts a dual-VLM architecture to achieve tight coupling between gesture representations and action policies. At the data level, we construct a scalable gesture data generation pipeline by rendering hand models onto real-world scene images. This reduces the sim-to-real visual gap while producing rich data with diverse motion patterns and corresponding pointing annotations. In addition, we employ a two-stage training strategy to equip the model with both gesture perception and action prediction capabilities. We evaluate our approach on multiple real-world robotic tasks, including a controlled block manipulation task for validation and more practical scenarios such as product and produce selection. Experimental results show that incorporating gesture consistently improves target grounding accuracy and human-robot interaction efficiency, especially in complex and cluttered environments. TSP3D: Text-guided Sparse Voxel Pruning for Efficient 3D Visual GroundingWenxuan Guo, Xiuwei Xu, Ziwei Wang et al.
In this paper, we propose an efficient multi-level convolution architecture for 3D visual grounding. Conventional methods are difficult to meet the requirements of real-time inference due to the two-stage or point-based architecture. Inspired by the success of multi-level fully sparse convolutional architecture in 3D object detection, we aim to build a new 3D visual grounding framework following this technical route. However, as in 3D visual grounding task the 3D scene representation should be deeply interacted with text features, sparse convolution-based architecture is inefficient for this interaction due to the large amount of voxel features. To this end, we propose text-guided pruning (TGP) and completion-based addition (CBA) to deeply fuse 3D scene representation and text features in an efficient way by gradual region pruning and target completion. Specifically, TGP iteratively sparsifies the 3D scene representation and thus efficiently interacts the voxel features with text features by cross-attention. To mitigate the affect of pruning on delicate geometric information, CBA adaptively fixes the over-pruned region by voxel completion with negligible computational overhead. Compared with previous single-stage methods, our method achieves top inference speed and surpasses previous fastest method by 100\% FPS. Our method also achieves state-of-the-art accuracy even compared with two-stage methods, with $+1.13$ lead of Acc@0.5 on ScanRefer, and $+2.6$ and $+3.2$ leads on NR3D and SR3D respectively. HumanReg: Self-supervised Non-rigid Registration of Human Point CloudYifan Chen, Zhiyu Pan, Zhicheng Zhong et al.
In this paper, we present a novel registration framework, HumanReg, that learns a non-rigid transformation between two human point clouds end-to-end. We introduce body prior into the registration process to efficiently handle this type of point cloud. Unlike most exsisting supervised registration techniques that require expensive point-wise flow annotations, HumanReg can be trained in a self-supervised manner benefiting from a set of novel loss functions. To make our model better converge on real-world data, we also propose a pretraining strategy, and a synthetic dataset (HumanSyn4D) consists of dynamic, sparse human point clouds and their auto-generated ground truth annotations. Our experiments shows that HumanReg achieves state-of-the-art performance on CAPE-512 dataset and gains a qualitative result on another more challenging real-world dataset. Furthermore, our ablation studies demonstrate the effectiveness of our synthetic dataset and novel loss functions. Human face perception reflects inverse-generative and naturalistic discriminative objectivesWenxuan Guo, Heiko H. Schütt, Kamila Maria Jozwik et al.
The perceptual representations supporting our ability to recognize faces remain a computational mystery. Deep neural networks offer mechanistic hypotheses for human face perception, but theoretically distinct models often make indistinguishable representational predictions for randomly sampled faces. To expose diagnostic differences among these hypotheses, we compared six neural network models sharing an architecture but trained on distinct tasks, using face pairs optimized to elicit contrasting model predictions ("controversial" pairs) alongside randomly sampled pairs. We tested model predictions against face-dissimilarity judgments from 864 human participants across stimulus sets differing in realism and pose variation. Models prioritizing high-level, invariant structures (trained via inverse rendering, face identification, or object classification) most robustly matched human judgments. Furthermore, models trained on natural images typically outperformed synthetic-trained counterparts. Together, these findings suggest that human face perception is shaped by mechanisms that infer latent causes of facial appearance, discount nuisance variation, and are tuned by natural image statistics.

LiDAR-based Person Re-identificationWenxuan Guo, Zhiyu Pan, Yingping Liang et al.
Camera-based person re-identification (ReID) systems have been widely applied in the field of public security. However, cameras often lack the perception of 3D morphological information of human and are susceptible to various limitations, such as inadequate illumination, complex background, and personal privacy. In this paper, we propose a LiDAR-based ReID framework, ReID3D, that utilizes pre-training strategy to retrieve features of 3D body shape and introduces Graph-based Complementary Enhancement Encoder for extracting comprehensive features. Due to the lack of LiDAR datasets, we build LReID, the first LiDAR-based person ReID dataset, which is collected in several outdoor scenes with variations in natural conditions. Additionally, we introduce LReID-sync, a simulated pedestrian dataset designed for pre-training encoders with tasks of point cloud completion and shape parameter learning. Extensive experiments on LReID show that ReID3D achieves exceptional performance with a rank-1 accuracy of 94.0, highlighting the significant potential of LiDAR in addressing person ReID tasks. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to propose a solution for LiDAR-based ReID. The code and datasets will be released soon.

Sports Analysis and VR Viewing System Based on Player Tracking and Pose Estimation with Multimodal and Multiview SensorsWenxuan Guo, Zhiyu Pan, Ziheng Xi et al.
Sports analysis and viewing play a pivotal role in the current sports domain, offering significant value not only to coaches and athletes but also to fans and the media. In recent years, the rapid development of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies have introduced a new platform for watching games. Visualization of sports competitions in VR/AR represents a revolutionary technology, providing audiences with a novel immersive viewing experience. However, there is still a lack of related research in this area. In this work, we present for the first time a comprehensive system for sports competition analysis and real-time visualization on VR/AR platforms. First, we utilize multiview LiDARs and cameras to collect multimodal game data. Subsequently, we propose a framework for multi-player tracking and pose estimation based on a limited amount of supervised data, which extracts precise player positions and movements from point clouds and images. Moreover, we perform avatar modeling of players to obtain their 3D models. Ultimately, using these 3D player data, we conduct competition analysis and real-time visualization on VR/AR. Extensive quantitative experiments demonstrate the accuracy and robustness of our multi-player tracking and pose estimation framework. The visualization results showcase the immense potential of our sports visualization system on the domain of watching games on VR/AR devices. The multimodal competition dataset we collected and all related code will be released soon.

GC-VLN: Instruction as Graph Constraints for Training-free Vision-and-Language NavigationHang Yin, Haoyu Wei, Xiuwei Xu et al.
In this paper, we propose a training-free framework for vision-and-language navigation (VLN). Existing zero-shot VLN methods are mainly designed for discrete environments or involve unsupervised training in continuous simulator environments, which makes it challenging to generalize and deploy them in real-world scenarios. To achieve a training-free framework in continuous environments, our framework formulates navigation guidance as graph constraint optimization by decomposing instructions into explicit spatial constraints. The constraint-driven paradigm decodes spatial semantics through constraint solving, enabling zero-shot adaptation to unseen environments. Specifically, we construct a spatial constraint library covering all types of spatial relationship mentioned in VLN instructions. The human instruction is decomposed into a directed acyclic graph, with waypoint nodes, object nodes and edges, which are used as queries to retrieve the library to build the graph constraints. The graph constraint optimization is solved by the constraint solver to determine the positions of waypoints, obtaining the robot's navigation path and final goal. To handle cases of no solution or multiple solutions, we construct a navigation tree and the backtracking mechanism. Extensive experiments on standard benchmarks demonstrate significant improvements in success rate and navigation efficiency compared to state-of-the-art zero-shot VLN methods. We further conduct real-world experiments to show that our framework can effectively generalize to new environments and instruction sets, paving the way for a more robust and autonomous navigation framework.

IGL-Nav: Incremental 3D Gaussian Localization for Image-goal NavigationWenxuan Guo, Xiuwei Xu, Hang Yin et al.
Visual navigation with an image as goal is a fundamental and challenging problem. Conventional methods either rely on end-to-end RL learning or modular-based policy with topological graph or BEV map as memory, which cannot fully model the geometric relationship between the explored 3D environment and the goal image. In order to efficiently and accurately localize the goal image in 3D space, we build our navigation system upon the renderable 3D gaussian (3DGS) representation. However, due to the computational intensity of 3DGS optimization and the large search space of 6-DoF camera pose, directly leveraging 3DGS for image localization during agent exploration process is prohibitively inefficient. To this end, we propose IGL-Nav, an Incremental 3D Gaussian Localization framework for efficient and 3D-aware image-goal navigation. Specifically, we incrementally update the scene representation as new images arrive with feed-forward monocular prediction. Then we coarsely localize the goal by leveraging the geometric information for discrete space matching, which can be equivalent to efficient 3D convolution. When the agent is close to the goal, we finally solve the fine target pose with optimization via differentiable rendering. The proposed IGL-Nav outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods by a large margin across diverse experimental configurations. It can also handle the more challenging free-view image-goal setting and be deployed on real-world robotic platform using a cellphone to capture goal image at arbitrary pose. LiCamPose: Combining Multi-View LiDAR and RGB Cameras for Robust Single-frame 3D Human Pose EstimationZhiyu Pan, Zhicheng Zhong, Wenxuan Guo et al.
Several methods have been proposed to estimate 3D human pose from multi-view images, achieving satisfactory performance on public datasets collected under relatively simple conditions. However, there are limited approaches studying extracting 3D human skeletons from multimodal inputs, such as RGB and point cloud data. To address this gap, we introduce LiCamPose, a pipeline that integrates multi-view RGB and sparse point cloud information to estimate robust 3D human poses via single frame. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the volumetric architecture in combining these modalities. Furthermore, to circumvent the need for manually labeled 3D human pose annotations, we develop a synthetic dataset generator for pretraining and design an unsupervised domain adaptation strategy to train a 3D human pose estimator without manual annotations. To validate the generalization capability of our method, LiCamPose is evaluated on four datasets, including two public datasets, one synthetic dataset, and one challenging self-collected dataset named BasketBall, covering diverse scenarios. The results demonstrate that LiCamPose exhibits great generalization performance and significant application potential. The code, generator, and datasets will be made available upon acceptance of this paper.

Swap-based Deep Reinforcement Learning for Facility Location Problems in NetworksWenxuan Guo, Yanyan Xu, Yaohui Jin
Facility location problems on graphs are ubiquitous in real world and hold significant importance, yet their resolution is often impeded by NP-hardness. Recently, machine learning methods have been proposed to tackle such classical problems, but they are limited to the myopic constructive pattern and only consider the problems in Euclidean space. To overcome these limitations, we propose a general swap-based framework that addresses the p-median problem and the facility relocation problem on graphs and a novel reinforcement learning model demonstrating a keen awareness of complex graph structures. Striking a harmonious balance between solution quality and running time, our method surpasses handcrafted heuristics on intricate graph datasets. Additionally, we introduce a graph generation process to simulate real-world urban road networks with demand, facilitating the construction of large datasets for the classic problem. For the initialization of the locations of facilities, we introduce a physics-inspired strategy for the p-median problem, reaching more stable solutions than the random strategy. The proposed pipeline coupling the classic swap-based method with deep reinforcement learning marks a significant step forward in addressing the practical challenges associated with facility location on graphs.

Towards Interpretable Visual Decoding with Attention to Brain RepresentationsPinyuan Feng, Hossein Adeli, Wenxuan Guo et al.
Recent work has demonstrated that complex visual stimuli can be decoded from human brain activity using deep generative models, helping brain science researchers interpret how the brain represents real-world scenes. However, most current approaches leverage mapping brain signals into intermediate image or text feature spaces before guiding the generative process, masking the effect of contributions from different brain areas on the final reconstruction output. In this work, we propose NeuroAdapter, a visual decoding framework that directly conditions a latent diffusion model on brain representations, bypassing the need for intermediate feature spaces. Our method demonstrates competitive visual reconstruction quality on public fMRI datasets compared to prior work, while providing greater transparency into how brain signals shape the generation process. To this end, we contribute an Image-Brain BI-directional interpretability framework (IBBI) which investigates cross-attention mechanisms across diffusion denoising steps to reveal how different cortical areas influence the unfolding generative trajectory. Our results highlight the potential of end-to-end brain-to-image decoding and establish a path toward interpreting diffusion models through the lens of visual neuroscience.

Online Learning to Transport via the Minimal Selection PrincipleWenxuan Guo, YoonHaeng Hur, Tengyuan Liang et al.
Motivated by robust dynamic resource allocation in operations research, we study the \textit{Online Learning to Transport} (OLT) problem where the decision variable is a probability measure, an infinite-dimensional object. We draw connections between online learning, optimal transport, and partial differential equations through an insight called the minimal selection principle, originally studied in the Wasserstein gradient flow setting by \citet{Ambrosio_2005}. This allows us to extend the standard online learning framework to the infinite-dimensional setting seamlessly. Based on our framework, we derive a novel method called the \textit{minimal selection or exploration (MSoE) algorithm} to solve OLT problems using mean-field approximation and discretization techniques. In the displacement convex setting, the main theoretical message underpinning our approach is that minimizing transport cost over time (via the minimal selection principle) ensures optimal cumulative regret upper bounds. On the algorithmic side, our MSoE algorithm applies beyond the displacement convex setting, making the mathematical theory of optimal transport practically relevant to non-convex settings common in dynamic resource allocation.

ZARTS: On Zero-order Optimization for Neural Architecture SearchXiaoxing Wang, Wenxuan Guo, Junchi Yan et al.
Differentiable architecture search (DARTS) has been a popular one-shot paradigm for NAS due to its high efficiency. It introduces trainable architecture parameters to represent the importance of candidate operations and proposes first/second-order approximation to estimate their gradients, making it possible to solve NAS by gradient descent algorithm. However, our in-depth empirical results show that the approximation will often distort the loss landscape, leading to the biased objective to optimize and in turn inaccurate gradient estimation for architecture parameters. This work turns to zero-order optimization and proposes a novel NAS scheme, called ZARTS, to search without enforcing the above approximation. Specifically, three representative zero-order optimization methods are introduced: RS, MGS, and GLD, among which MGS performs best by balancing the accuracy and speed. Moreover, we explore the connections between RS/MGS and gradient descent algorithm and show that our ZARTS can be seen as a robust gradient-free counterpart to DARTS. Extensive experiments on multiple datasets and search spaces show the remarkable performance of our method. In particular, results on 12 benchmarks verify the outstanding robustness of ZARTS, where the performance of DARTS collapses due to its known instability issue. Also, we search on the search space of DARTS to compare with peer methods, and our discovered architecture achieves 97.54% accuracy on CIFAR-10 and 75.7% top-1 accuracy on ImageNet, which are state-of-the-art performance.

Reversible Gromov-Monge Sampler for Simulation-Based InferenceYoonHaeng Hur, Wenxuan Guo, Tengyuan Liang
This paper introduces a new simulation-based inference procedure to model and sample from multi-dimensional probability distributions given access to i.i.d.\ samples, circumventing the usual approaches of explicitly modeling the density function or designing Markov chain Monte Carlo. Motivated by the seminal work on distance and isomorphism between metric measure spaces, we propose a new notion called the Reversible Gromov-Monge (RGM) distance and study how RGM can be used to design new transform samplers to perform simulation-based inference. Our RGM sampler can also estimate optimal alignments between two heterogeneous metric measure spaces $(\cX, μ, c_{\cX})$ and $(\cY, ν, c_{\cY})$ from empirical data sets, with estimated maps that approximately push forward one measure $μ$ to the other $ν$, and vice versa. We study the analytic properties of the RGM distance and derive that under mild conditions, RGM equals the classic Gromov-Wasserstein distance. Curiously, drawing a connection to Brenier's polar factorization, we show that the RGM sampler induces bias towards strong isomorphism with proper choices of $c_{\cX}$ and $c_{\cY}$. Statistical rate of convergence, representation, and optimization questions regarding the induced sampler are studied. Synthetic and real-world examples showcasing the effectiveness of the RGM sampler are also demonstrated.

Spatial-temporal Multi-Task Learning for Within-field Cotton Yield PredictionLong Nguyen, Jia Zhen, Zhe Lin et al.
Understanding and accurately predicting within-field spatial variability of crop yield play a key role in site-specific management of crop inputs such as irrigation water and fertilizer for optimized crop production. However, such a task is challenged by the complex interaction between crop growth and environmental and managerial factors, such as climate, soil conditions, tillage, and irrigation. In this paper, we present a novel Spatial-temporal Multi-Task Learning algorithms for within-field crop yield prediction in west Texas from 2001 to 2003. This algorithm integrates multiple heterogeneous data sources to learn different features simultaneously, and to aggregate spatial-temporal features by introducing a weighted regularizer to the loss functions. Our comprehensive experimental results consistently outperform the results of other conventional methods, and suggest a promising approach, which improves the landscape of crop prediction research fields.
