GenTSE: Enhancing Target Speaker Extraction via a Coarse-to-Fine Generative Language Model

Language Model (LM)-based generative modeling has emerged as a promising direction for TSE, offering potential for improved generalization and high-fidelity speech. We present GenTSE, a two-stage decoder-only generative LM approach for TSE: Stage-1 predicts coarse semantic tokens, and Stage-2 generates fine acoustic tokens. Separating semantics and acoustics stabilizes decoding and yields more faithful, content-aligned target speech. Both stages use continuous SSL or codec embeddings, offering richer context than discretized-prompt methods. To reduce exposure bias, we employ a Frozen-LM Conditioning training strategy that conditions the LMs on predicted tokens from earlier checkpoints to reduce the gap between teacher-forcing training and autoregressive inference. We further employ DPO to better align outputs with human perceptual preferences. Experiments on Libri2Mix show that GenTSE surpasses previous LM-based systems in speech quality, intelligibility, and speaker consistency.

Evaluating Bias in Spoken Dialogue LLMs for Real-World Decisions and Recommendations

While biases in large language models (LLMs), such as stereotypes and cultural tendencies in outputs, have been examined and identified, their presence and characteristics in spoken dialogue models (SDMs) with audio input and output remain largely unexplored. Paralinguistic features, such as age, gender, and accent, can affect model outputs; when compounded by multi-turn conversations, these effects may exacerbate biases, with potential implications for fairness in decision-making and recommendation tasks. In this paper, we systematically evaluate biases in speech LLMs and study the impact of multi-turn dialogues with repeated negative feedback. Bias is measured using Group Unfairness Score (GUS) for decisions and similarity-based normalized statistics rate (SNSR) for recommendations, across both open-source models like Qwen2.5-Omni and GLM-4-Voice, as well as closed-source APIs such as GPT-4o Audio and Gemini-2.5-Flash. Our analysis reveals that closed-source models generally exhibit lower bias, while open-source models are more sensitive to age and gender, and recommendation tasks tend to amplify cross-group disparities. We found that biased decisions may persist in multi-turn conversations. This work provides the first systematic study of biases in end-to-end spoken dialogue models, offering insights towards fair and reliable audio-based interactive systems. To facilitate further research, we release the FairDialogue dataset and evaluation code.

Deep Interaction between Masking and Mapping Targets for Single-Channel Speech Enhancement

The most recent deep neural network (DNN) models exhibit impressive denoising performance in the time-frequency (T-F) magnitude domain. However, the phase is also a critical component of the speech signal that is easily overlooked. In this paper, we propose a multi-branch dilated convolutional network (DCN) to simultaneously enhance the magnitude and phase of noisy speech. A causal and robust monaural speech enhancement system is achieved based on the multi-objective learning framework of the complex spectrum and the ideal ratio mask (IRM) targets. In the process of joint learning, the intermediate estimation of IRM targets is used as a way of generating feature attention factors to realize the information interaction between the two targets. Moreover, the proposed multi-scale dilated convolution enables the DCN model to have a more efficient temporal modeling capability. Experimental results show that compared with other state-of-the-art models, this model achieves better speech quality and intelligibility with less computation.
