Transformer-Patcher: One Mistake worth One NeuronZeyu Huang, Yikang Shen, Xiaofeng Zhang et al. · tencent-ai
Large Transformer-based Pretrained Language Models (PLMs) dominate almost all Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks. Nevertheless, they still make mistakes from time to time. For a model deployed in an industrial environment, fixing these mistakes quickly and robustly is vital to improve user experiences. Previous works formalize such problems as Model Editing (ME) and mostly focus on fixing one mistake. However, the one-mistake-fixing scenario is not an accurate abstraction of the real-world challenge. In the deployment of AI services, there are ever-emerging mistakes, and the same mistake may recur if not corrected in time. Thus a preferable solution is to rectify the mistakes as soon as they appear nonstop. Therefore, we extend the existing ME into Sequential Model Editing (SME) to help develop more practical editing methods. Our study shows that most current ME methods could yield unsatisfying results in this scenario. We then introduce Transformer-Patcher, a novel model editor that can shift the behavior of transformer-based models by simply adding and training a few neurons in the last Feed-Forward Network layer. Experimental results on both classification and generation tasks show that Transformer-Patcher can successively correct up to thousands of errors (Reliability) and generalize to their equivalent inputs (Generality) while retaining the model's accuracy on irrelevant inputs (Locality). Our method outperforms previous fine-tuning and HyperNetwork-based methods and achieves state-of-the-art performance for Sequential Model Editing (SME). NTIRE 2022 Challenge on Super-Resolution and Quality Enhancement of Compressed Video: Dataset, Methods and ResultsRen Yang, Radu Timofte, Meisong Zheng et al. · tencent-ai
This paper reviews the NTIRE 2022 Challenge on Super-Resolution and Quality Enhancement of Compressed Video. In this challenge, we proposed the LDV 2.0 dataset, which includes the LDV dataset (240 videos) and 95 additional videos. This challenge includes three tracks. Track 1 aims at enhancing the videos compressed by HEVC at a fixed QP. Track 2 and Track 3 target both the super-resolution and quality enhancement of HEVC compressed video. They require x2 and x4 super-resolution, respectively. The three tracks totally attract more than 600 registrations. In the test phase, 8 teams, 8 teams and 12 teams submitted the final results to Tracks 1, 2 and 3, respectively. The proposed methods and solutions gauge the state-of-the-art of super-resolution and quality enhancement of compressed video. Mixture of Attention Heads: Selecting Attention Heads Per TokenXiaofeng Zhang, Yikang Shen, Zeyu Huang et al. · tencent-ai
Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) networks have been proposed as an efficient way to scale up model capacity and implement conditional computing. However, the study of MoE components mostly focused on the feedforward layer in Transformer architecture. This paper proposes the Mixture of Attention Heads (MoA), a new architecture that combines multi-head attention with the MoE mechanism. MoA includes a set of attention heads that each has its own set of parameters. Given an input, a router dynamically selects a subset of $k$ attention heads per token. This conditional computation schema allows MoA to achieve stronger performance than the standard multi-head attention layer. Furthermore, the sparsely gated MoA can easily scale up the number of attention heads and the number of parameters while preserving computational efficiency. In addition to the performance improvements, MoA also automatically differentiates heads' utilities, providing a new perspective to discuss the model's interpretability. We conducted experiments on several important tasks, including Machine Translation and Masked Language Modeling. Experiments have shown promising results on several tasks against strong baselines that involve large and very deep models.

Enlighten Anything: When Segment Anything Model Meets Low-Light Image EnhancementQihan Zhao, Xiaofeng Zhang, Hao Tang et al.
Image restoration is a low-level visual task, and most CNN methods are designed as black boxes, lacking transparency and intrinsic aesthetics. Many unsupervised approaches ignore the degradation of visible information in low-light scenes, which will seriously affect the aggregation of complementary information and also make the fusion algorithm unable to produce satisfactory fusion results under extreme conditions. In this paper, we propose Enlighten-anything, which is able to enhance and fuse the semantic intent of SAM segmentation with low-light images to obtain fused images with good visual perception. The generalization ability of unsupervised learning is greatly improved, and experiments on LOL dataset are conducted to show that our method improves 3db in PSNR over baseline and 8 in SSIM. Zero-shot learning of SAM introduces a powerful aid for unsupervised low-light enhancement. Power Efficient Video Super-Resolution on Mobile NPUs with Deep Learning, Mobile AI & AIM 2022 challenge: ReportAndrey Ignatov, Radu Timofte, Cheng-Ming Chiang et al.
Video super-resolution is one of the most popular tasks on mobile devices, being widely used for an automatic improvement of low-bitrate and low-resolution video streams. While numerous solutions have been proposed for this problem, they are usually quite computationally demanding, demonstrating low FPS rates and power efficiency on mobile devices. In this Mobile AI challenge, we address this problem and propose the participants to design an end-to-end real-time video super-resolution solution for mobile NPUs optimized for low energy consumption. The participants were provided with the REDS training dataset containing video sequences for a 4X video upscaling task. The runtime and power efficiency of all models was evaluated on the powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9000 platform with a dedicated AI processing unit capable of accelerating floating-point and quantized neural networks. All proposed solutions are fully compatible with the above NPU, demonstrating an up to 500 FPS rate and 0.2 [Watt / 30 FPS] power consumption. A detailed description of all models developed in the challenge is provided in this paper.

SAM-helps-Shadow:When Segment Anything Model meet shadow removalXiaofeng Zhang, Chaochen Gu, Shanying Zhu
The challenges surrounding the application of image shadow removal to real-world images and not just constrained datasets like ISTD/SRD have highlighted an urgent need for zero-shot learning in this field. In this study, we innovatively adapted the SAM (Segment anything model) for shadow removal by introducing SAM-helps-Shadow, effectively integrating shadow detection and removal into a single stage. Our approach utilized the model's detection results as a potent prior for facilitating shadow detection, followed by shadow removal using a second-order deep unfolding network. Unlocking the Black Box of Latent Reasoning: An Interpretability-Guided Approach to InterventionShuochen Chang, Tong Bai, Xiaofeng Zhang et al.
Latent reasoning enables Large Language Models (LLMs) to perform multi-step inference within continuous hidden states, offering efficiency gains over explicit Chain-of-Thought (CoT). However, the opacity of these continuous thought vectors hinders their reliability and controllability. This paper bridges the gap between mechanistic interpretability and actionable control. We first present a systematic analysis using structural, causal, and geometric probes, revealing that latent vectors encode compressed, faithful representations of reasoning steps, with early vectors acting as critical causal hubs. Building on this, we operationalize these interpretability insights into a suite of training-free, decode-time interventions that refine the latent reasoning process by imposing the identified geometric and semantic priors. Extensive experiments across multiple model scales and diverse task domains demonstrate that our approaches consistently improve reasoning accuracy. Our interpretability-guided interventions consistently unlock latent capabilities and improve reasoning accuracy without any parameter updates.

C^2ROPE: Causal Continuous Rotary Positional Encoding for 3D Large Multimodal-Models ReasoningGuanting Ye, Qiyan Zhao, Wenhao Yu et al.
Recent advances in 3D Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) built on Large Language Models (LLMs) have established the alignment of 3D visual features with LLM representations as the dominant paradigm. However, the inherited Rotary Position Embedding (RoPE) introduces limitations for multimodal processing. Specifically, applying 1D temporal positional indices disrupts the continuity of visual features along the column dimension, resulting in spatial locality loss. Moreover, RoPE follows the prior that temporally closer image tokens are more causally related, leading to long-term decay in attention allocation and causing the model to progressively neglect earlier visual tokens as the sequence length increases. To address these issues, we propose C^2RoPE, an improved RoPE that explicitly models local spatial Continuity and spatial Causal relationships for visual processing. C^2RoPE introduces a spatio-temporal continuous positional embedding mechanism for visual tokens. It first integrates 1D temporal positions with Cartesian-based spatial coordinates to construct a triplet hybrid positional index, and then employs a frequency allocation strategy to encode spatio-temporal positional information across the three index components. Additionally, we introduce Chebyshev Causal Masking, which determines causal dependencies by computing the Chebyshev distance of image tokens in 2D space. Evaluation results across various benchmarks, including 3D scene reasoning and 3D visual question answering, demonstrate C^2RoPE's effectiveness. GSim: A Graph Neural Network based Relevance Measure for Heterogeneous GraphsLinhao Luo, Yixiang Fang, Moli Lu et al.
Heterogeneous graphs, which contain nodes and edges of multiple types, are prevalent in various domains, including bibliographic networks, social media, and knowledge graphs. As a fundamental task in analyzing heterogeneous graphs, relevance measure aims to calculate the relevance between two objects of different types, which has been used in many applications such as web search, recommendation, and community detection. Most of existing relevance measures focus on homogeneous networks where objects are of the same type, and a few measures are developed for heterogeneous graphs, but they often need the pre-defined meta-path. Defining meaningful meta-paths requires much domain knowledge, which largely limits their applications, especially on schema-rich heterogeneous graphs like knowledge graphs. Recently, the Graph Neural Network (GNN) has been widely applied in many graph mining tasks, but it has not been applied for measuring relevance yet. To address the aforementioned problems, we propose a novel GNN-based relevance measure, namely GSim. Specifically, we first theoretically analyze and show that GNN is effective for measuring the relevance of nodes in the graph. We then propose a context path-based graph neural network (CP-GNN) to automatically leverage the semantics in heterogeneous graphs. Moreover, we exploit CP-GNN to support relevance measures between two objects of any type. Extensive experiments demonstrate that GSim outperforms existing measures.

Causal-Story: Local Causal Attention Utilizing Parameter-Efficient Tuning For Visual Story SynthesisTianyi Song, Jiuxin Cao, Kun Wang et al.
The excellent text-to-image synthesis capability of diffusion models has driven progress in synthesizing coherent visual stories. The current state-of-the-art method combines the features of historical captions, historical frames, and the current captions as conditions for generating the current frame. However, this method treats each historical frame and caption as the same contribution. It connects them in order with equal weights, ignoring that not all historical conditions are associated with the generation of the current frame. To address this issue, we propose Causal-Story. This model incorporates a local causal attention mechanism that considers the causal relationship between previous captions, frames, and current captions. By assigning weights based on this relationship, Causal-Story generates the current frame, thereby improving the global consistency of story generation. We evaluated our model on the PororoSV and FlintstonesSV datasets and obtained state-of-the-art FID scores, and the generated frames also demonstrate better storytelling in visuals.

FinVis-GPT: A Multimodal Large Language Model for Financial Chart AnalysisZiao Wang, Yuhang Li, Junda Wu et al.
In this paper, we propose FinVis-GPT, a novel multimodal large language model (LLM) specifically designed for financial chart analysis. By leveraging the power of LLMs and incorporating instruction tuning and multimodal capabilities, FinVis-GPT is capable of interpreting financial charts and providing valuable analysis. To train FinVis-GPT, a financial task oriented dataset was generated for pre-training alignment and instruction tuning, comprising various types of financial charts and their corresponding descriptions. We evaluate the model performance via several case studies due to the time limit, and the promising results demonstrated that FinVis-GPT is superior in various financial chart related tasks, including generating descriptions, answering questions and predicting future market trends, surpassing existing state-of-the-art multimodal LLMs. The proposed FinVis-GPT serves as a pioneering effort in utilizing multimodal LLMs in the finance domain and our generated dataset will be release for public use in the near future to speedup related research.

Hallucination Begins Where Saliency DropsXiaofeng Zhang, Yuanchao Zhu, Chaochen Gu et al.
Recent studies have examined attention dynamics in large vision-language models (LVLMs) to detect hallucinations. However, existing approaches remain limited in reliably distinguishing hallucinated from factually grounded outputs, as they rely solely on forward-pass attention patterns and neglect gradient-based signals that reveal how token influence propagates through the network. To bridge this gap, we introduce LVLMs-Saliency, a gradient-aware diagnostic framework that quantifies the visual grounding strength of each output token by fusing attention weights with their input gradients. Our analysis uncovers a decisive pattern: hallucinations frequently arise when preceding output tokens exhibit low saliency toward the prediction of the next token, signaling a breakdown in contextual memory retention. Leveraging this insight, we propose a dual-mechanism inference-time framework to mitigate hallucinations: (1) Saliency-Guided Rejection Sampling (SGRS), which dynamically filters candidate tokens during autoregressive decoding by rejecting those whose saliency falls below a context-adaptive threshold, thereby preventing coherence-breaking tokens from entering the output sequence; and (2) Local Coherence Reinforcement (LocoRE), a lightweight, plug-and-play module that strengthens attention from the current token to its most recent predecessors, actively counteracting the contextual forgetting behavior identified by LVLMs-Saliency. Extensive experiments across multiple LVLMs demonstrate that our method significantly reduces hallucination rates while preserving fluency and task performance, offering a robust and interpretable solution for enhancing model reliability. Improving Depth Gradient Continuity in Transformers: A Comparative Study on Monocular Depth Estimation with CNNJiawei Yao, Tong Wu, Xiaofeng Zhang
Monocular depth estimation is an ongoing challenge in computer vision. Recent progress with Transformer models has demonstrated notable advantages over conventional CNNs in this area. However, there's still a gap in understanding how these models prioritize different regions in 2D images and how these regions affect depth estimation performance. To explore the differences between Transformers and CNNs, we employ a sparse pixel approach to contrastively analyze the distinctions between the two. Our findings suggest that while Transformers excel in handling global context and intricate textures, they lag behind CNNs in preserving depth gradient continuity. To further enhance the performance of Transformer models in monocular depth estimation, we propose the Depth Gradient Refinement (DGR) module that refines depth estimation through high-order differentiation, feature fusion, and recalibration. Additionally, we leverage optimal transport theory, treating depth maps as spatial probability distributions, and employ the optimal transport distance as a loss function to optimize our model. Experimental results demonstrate that models integrated with the plug-and-play Depth Gradient Refinement (DGR) module and the proposed loss function enhance performance without increasing complexity and computational costs on both outdoor KITTI and indoor NYU-Depth-v2 datasets. This research not only offers fresh insights into the distinctions between Transformers and CNNs in depth estimation but also paves the way for novel depth estimation methodologies.

Instance-adaptive Zero-shot Chain-of-Thought PromptingXiaosong Yuan, Chen Shen, Shaotian Yan et al.
Zero-shot Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting emerges as a simple and effective strategy for enhancing the performance of large language models (LLMs) in real-world reasoning tasks. Nonetheless, the efficacy of a singular, task-level prompt uniformly applied across the whole of instances is inherently limited since one prompt cannot be a good partner for all, a more appropriate approach should consider the interaction between the prompt and each instance meticulously. This work introduces an instance-adaptive prompting algorithm as an alternative zero-shot CoT reasoning scheme by adaptively differentiating good and bad prompts. Concretely, we first employ analysis on LLMs through the lens of information flow to detect the mechanism under zero-shot CoT reasoning, in which we discover that information flows from question to prompt and question to rationale jointly influence the reasoning results most. We notice that a better zero-shot CoT reasoning needs the prompt to obtain semantic information from the question then the rationale aggregates sufficient information from the question directly and via the prompt indirectly. On the contrary, lacking any of those would probably lead to a bad one. Stem from that, we further propose an instance-adaptive prompting strategy (IAP) for zero-shot CoT reasoning. Experiments conducted with LLaMA-2, LLaMA-3, and Qwen on math, logic, and commonsense reasoning tasks (e.g., GSM8K, MMLU, Causal Judgement) obtain consistent improvement, demonstrating that the instance-adaptive zero-shot CoT prompting performs better than other task-level methods with some curated prompts or sophisticated procedures, showing the significance of our findings in the zero-shot CoT reasoning mechanism.

Context Tokens are Anchors: Understanding the Repetition Curse in dMLLMs from an Information Flow PerspectiveQiyan Zhao, Xiaofeng Zhang, Shuochen Chang et al.
Recent diffusion-based Multimodal Large Language Models (dMLLMs) suffer from high inference latency and therefore rely on caching techniques to accelerate decoding. However, the application of cache mechanisms often introduces undesirable repetitive text generation, a phenomenon we term the \textbf{Repeat Curse}. To better investigate underlying mechanism behind this issue, we analyze repetition generation through the lens of information flow. Our work reveals three key findings: (1) context tokens aggregate semantic information as anchors and guide the final predictions; (2) as information propagates across layers, the entropy of context tokens converges in deeper layers, reflecting the model's growing prediction certainty; (3) Repetition is typically linked to disruptions in the information flow of context tokens and to the inability of their entropy to converge in deeper layers. Based on these insights, we present \textbf{CoTA}, a plug-and-play method for mitigating repetition. CoTA enhances the attention of context tokens to preserve intrinsic information flow patterns, while introducing a penalty term to the confidence score during decoding to avoid outputs driven by uncertain context tokens. With extensive experiments, CoTA demonstrates significant effectiveness in alleviating repetition and achieves consistent performance improvements on general tasks. Remember Me: Bridging the Long-Range Gap in LVLMs with Three-Step Inference-Only Decay Resilience StrategiesPeng Gao, Yujian Lee, Xiaofeng Zhang et al.
Large Vision-Language Models (LVLMs) have achieved impressive performance across a wide range of multimodal tasks. However, they still face critical challenges in modeling long-range dependencies under the usage of Rotary Positional Encoding (ROPE). Although it can facilitate precise modeling of token positions, it induces progressive attention decay as token distance increases, especially with progressive attention decay over distant token pairs, which severely impairs the model's ability to remember global context. To alleviate this issue, we propose inference-only Three-step Decay Resilience Strategies (T-DRS), comprising (1) Semantic-Driven DRS (SD-DRS), amplifying semantically meaningful but distant signals via content-aware residuals, (2) Distance-aware Control DRS (DC-DRS), which can purify attention by smoothly modulating weights based on positional distances, suppressing noise while preserving locality, and (3) re-Reinforce Distant DRS (reRD-DRS), consolidating the remaining informative remote dependencies to maintain global coherence. Together, the T-DRS recover suppressed long-range token pairs without harming local inductive biases. Extensive experiments on Vision Question Answering (VQA) benchmarks demonstrate that T-DRS can consistently improve performance in a training-free manner. Inference-time Physics Alignment of Video Generative Models with Latent World ModelsJianhao Yuan, Xiaofeng Zhang, Felix Friedrich et al.
State-of-the-art video generative models produce promising visual content yet often violate basic physics principles, limiting their utility. While some attribute this deficiency to insufficient physics understanding from pre-training, we find that the shortfall in physics plausibility also stems from suboptimal inference strategies. We therefore introduce WMReward and treat improving physics plausibility of video generation as an inference-time alignment problem. In particular, we leverage the strong physics prior of a latent world model (here, VJEPA-2) as a reward to search and steer multiple candidate denoising trajectories, enabling scaling test-time compute for better generation performance. Empirically, our approach substantially improves physics plausibility across image-conditioned, multiframe-conditioned, and text-conditioned generation settings, with validation from human preference study. Notably, in the ICCV 2025 Perception Test PhysicsIQ Challenge, we achieve a final score of 62.64%, winning first place and outperforming the previous state of the art by 7.42%. Our work demonstrates the viability of using latent world models to improve physics plausibility of video generation, beyond this specific instantiation or parameterization.

D$^{3}$ToM: Decider-Guided Dynamic Token Merging for Accelerating Diffusion MLLMsShuochen Chang, Xiaofeng Zhang, Qingyang Liu et al.
Diffusion-based multimodal large language models (Diffusion MLLMs) have recently demonstrated impressive non-autoregressive generative capabilities across vision-and-language tasks. However, Diffusion MLLMs exhibit substantially slower inference than autoregressive models: Each denoising step employs full bidirectional self-attention over the entire sequence, resulting in cubic decoding complexity that becomes computationally impractical with thousands of visual tokens. To address this challenge, we propose D$^{3}$ToM, a Decider-guided dynamic token merging method that dynamically merges redundant visual tokens at different denoising steps to accelerate inference in Diffusion MLLMs. At each denoising step, D$^{3}$ToM uses decider tokens-the tokens generated in the previous denoising step-to build an importance map over all visual tokens. Then it maintains a proportion of the most salient tokens and merges the remainder through similarity-based aggregation. This plug-and-play module integrates into a single transformer layer, physically shortening the visual token sequence for all subsequent layers without altering model parameters. Moreover, D$^{3}$ToM employs a merge ratio that dynamically varies with each denoising step, aligns with the native decoding process of Diffusion MLLMs, achieving superior performance under equivalent computational budgets. Building Lane-Level Maps from Aerial ImagesJiawei Yao, Xiaochao Pan, Tong Wu et al.
Detecting lane lines from sensors is becoming an increasingly significant part of autonomous driving systems. However, less development has been made on high-definition lane-level mapping based on aerial images, which could automatically build and update offline maps for auto-driving systems. To this end, our work focuses on extracting fine-level detailed lane lines together with their topological structures. This task is challenging since it requires large amounts of data covering different lane types, terrain and regions. In this paper, we introduce for the first time a large-scale aerial image dataset built for lane detection, with high-quality polyline lane annotations on high-resolution images of around 80 kilometers of road. Moreover, we developed a baseline deep learning lane detection method from aerial images, called AerialLaneNet, consisting of two stages. The first stage is to produce coarse-grained results at point level, and the second stage exploits the coarse-grained results and feature to perform the vertex-matching task, producing fine-grained lanes with topology. The experiments show our approach achieves significant improvement compared with the state-of-the-art methods on our new dataset. Image Encryption via Data-Identified Discrete Chaotic MapsWenyuan Lia, Xiao-Yun Wang, Zhigang Zhu et al.
In this work, we propose a data-driven image encryption framework that identifies chaotic maps directly from data using the SINDy-PI algorithm. Unlike conventional encryption schemes relying on predefined maps, our method learns the full explicit dynamics -- including cross-terms and higher-order nonlinearities -- from observational data. The validity of this approach is verified on three distinct chaotic systems: the H{é}non map, the three-dimensional logistic map, and the piecewise-linear Lozi map, demonstrating its generality. The encryption key consists solely of initial conditions; the map structure itself becomes data-dependent, introducing an extra layer of security. Moreover, even when the initial conditions are fixed, different training data (e.g., with a tiny noise seed) lead to slightly different maps, which produce completely different ciphertexts (NPCR $\approx 99.6\%$, UACI $\approx 33.5\%$). Numerical experiments on the H{é}non system show near-ideal information entropy ($\approx 8$ bits), negligible inter-pixel correlation, and extreme sensitivity to initial conditions: a perturbation of $10^{-16}$ causes total decryption failure. The scheme resists both differential and statistical attacks, with NPCR and UACI values matching theoretical ideals. Our results establish a new paradigm for chaos-based cryptography beyond fixed maps.

An Effective Data Creation Pipeline to Generate High-quality Financial Instruction Data for Large Language ModelZiao Wang, Jianning Wang, Junda Wu et al.
At the beginning era of large language model, it is quite critical to generate a high-quality financial dataset to fine-tune a large language model for financial related tasks. Thus, this paper presents a carefully designed data creation pipeline for this purpose. Particularly, we initiate a dialogue between an AI investor and financial expert using ChatGPT and incorporate the feedback of human financial experts, leading to the refinement of the dataset. This pipeline yielded a robust instruction tuning dataset comprised of 103k multi-turn chats. Extensive experiments have been conducted on this dataset to evaluate the model's performance by adopting an external GPT-4 as the judge. The promising experimental results verify that our approach led to significant advancements in generating accurate, relevant, and financial-style responses from AI models, and thus providing a powerful tool for applications within the financial sector.

Efficient Remote Sensing Segmentation With Generative Adversarial TransformerLuyi Qiu, Dayu Yu, Xiaofeng Zhang et al.
Most deep learning methods that achieve high segmentation accuracy require deep network architectures that are too heavy and complex to run on embedded devices with limited storage and memory space. To address this issue, this paper proposes an efficient Generative Adversarial Transfomer (GATrans) for achieving high-precision semantic segmentation while maintaining an extremely efficient size. The framework utilizes a Global Transformer Network (GTNet) as the generator, efficiently extracting multi-level features through residual connections. GTNet employs global transformer blocks with progressively linear computational complexity to reassign global features based on a learnable similarity function. To focus on object-level and pixel-level information, the GATrans optimizes the objective function by combining structural similarity losses. We validate the effectiveness of our approach through extensive experiments on the Vaihingen dataset, achieving an average F1 score of 90.17% and an overall accuracy of 91.92%.

Diffusion-CAM: Faithful Visual Explanations for dMLLMsHaomin Zuo, Yidi Li, Luoxiao Yang et al.
While diffusion Multimodal Large Language Models (dMLLMs) have recently achieved remarkable strides in multimodal generation, the development of interpretability mechanisms has lagged behind their architectural evolution. Unlike traditional autoregressive models that produce sequential activations, diffusion-based architectures generate tokens via parallel denoising, resulting in smooth, distributed activation patterns across the entire sequence. Consequently, existing Class Activation Mapping (CAM) methods, which are tailored for local, sequential dependencies, are ill-suited for interpreting these non-autoregressive behaviors. To bridge this gap, we propose Diffusion-CAM, the first interpretability method specifically tailored for dMLLMs. We derive raw activation maps by differentiably probing intermediate representations in the transformer backbone, accordingly capturing both latent features and their class-specific gradients. To address the inherent stochasticity of these raw signals, we incorporate four key modules to resolve spatial ambiguity and mitigate intra-image confounders and redundant token correlations. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Diffusion-CAM significantly outperforms SoTA methods in both localization accuracy and visual fidelity, establishing a new standard for understanding the parallel generation process of diffusion multimodal systems.

SoPE: Spherical Coordinate-Based Positional Embedding for Enhancing Spatial Perception of 3D LVLMsGuanting Ye, Qiyan Zhao, Wenhao Yu et al.
3D Large Vision-Language Models (3D LVLMs) built upon Large Language Models (LLMs) have achieved remarkable progress across various multimodal tasks. However, their inherited position-dependent modeling mechanism, Rotary Position Embedding (RoPE), remains suboptimal for 3D multimodal understanding. The vanilla RoPE formulation fails to preserve essential three-dimensional spatial structures when encoding 3D tokens, and its relative distance computation overlooks angular dependencies, hindering the model's ability to capture directional variations in visual representations. To overcome these limitations, we introduce Spherical Coordinate-based Positional Embedding (SoPE). Our method maps point-cloud token indices into a 3D spherical coordinate space, enabling unified modeling of spatial locations and directional angles. This formulation preserves the inherent geometric structure of point-cloud data, enhances spatial awareness, and yields more consistent and expressive geometric representations for multimodal learning. In addition, we introduce a multi-scale frequency mixing strategy to fuse feature information across different frequency domains. Experimental results on multiple 3D scene benchmarks validate the effectiveness of our approach, while real-world deployment experiments further demonstrate its strong generalization capability.

DOPRA: Decoding Over-accumulation Penalization and Re-allocation in Specific Weighting LayerJinfeng Wei, Xiaofeng Zhang
In this work, we introduce DOPRA, a novel approach designed to mitigate hallucinations in multi-modal large language models (MLLMs). Unlike existing solutions that typically involve costly supplementary training data or the integration of external knowledge sources, DOPRA innovatively addresses hallucinations by decoding specific weighted layer penalties and redistribution, offering an economical and effective solution without additional resources. DOPRA is grounded in unique insights into the intrinsic mechanisms controlling hallucinations within MLLMs, especially the models' tendency to over-rely on a subset of summary tokens in the self-attention matrix, neglecting critical image-related information. This phenomenon is particularly pronounced in certain strata. To counteract this over-reliance, DOPRA employs a strategy of weighted overlay penalties and redistribution in specific layers, such as the 12th layer, during the decoding process. Furthermore, DOPRA includes a retrospective allocation process that re-examines the sequence of generated tokens, allowing the algorithm to reallocate token selection to better align with the actual image content, thereby reducing the incidence of hallucinatory descriptions in auto-generated captions. Overall, DOPRA represents a significant step forward in improving the output quality of MLLMs by systematically reducing hallucinations through targeted adjustments during the decoding process.

A Dual Attentive Generative Adversarial Network for Remote Sensing Image Change DetectionLuyi Qiu, Xiaofeng Zhang, ChaoChen Gu et al.
Remote sensing change detection between bi-temporal images receives growing concentration from researchers. However, comparing two bi-temporal images for detecting changes is challenging, as they demonstrate different appearances. In this paper, we propose a dual attentive generative adversarial network for achieving very high-resolution remote sensing image change detection tasks, which regards the detection model as a generator and attains the optimal weights of the detection model without increasing the parameters of the detection model through generative-adversarial strategy, boosting the spatial contiguity of predictions. Moreover, We design a multi-level feature extractor for effectively fusing multi-level features, which adopts the pre-trained model to extract multi-level features from bi-temporal images and introduces aggregate connections to fuse them. To strengthen the identification of multi-scale objects, we propose a multi-scale adaptive fusion module to adaptively fuse multi-scale features through various receptive fields and design a context refinement module to explore contextual dependencies. Moreover, the DAGAN framework utilizes the 4-layer convolution network as a discriminator to identify whether the synthetic image is fake or real. Extensive experiments represent that the DAGAN framework has better performance with 85.01% mean IoU and 91.48% mean F1 score than advanced methods on the LEVIR dataset.

LensNet: An End-to-End Learning Framework for Empirical Point Spread Function Modeling and Lensless Imaging ReconstructionJiesong Bai, Yuhao Yin, Yihang Dong et al.
Lensless imaging stands out as a promising alternative to conventional lens-based systems, particularly in scenarios demanding ultracompact form factors and cost-effective architectures. However, such systems are fundamentally governed by the Point Spread Function (PSF), which dictates how a point source contributes to the final captured signal. Traditional lensless techniques often require explicit calibrations and extensive pre-processing, relying on static or approximate PSF models. These rigid strategies can result in limited adaptability to real-world challenges, including noise, system imperfections, and dynamic scene variations, thus impeding high-fidelity reconstruction. In this paper, we propose LensNet, an end-to-end deep learning framework that integrates spatial-domain and frequency-domain representations in a unified pipeline. Central to our approach is a learnable Coded Mask Simulator (CMS) that enables dynamic, data-driven estimation of the PSF during training, effectively mitigating the shortcomings of fixed or sparsely calibrated kernels. By embedding a Wiener filtering component, LensNet refines global structure and restores fine-scale details, thus alleviating the dependency on multiple handcrafted pre-processing steps. Extensive experiments demonstrate LensNet's robust performance and superior reconstruction quality compared to state-of-the-art methods, particularly in preserving high-frequency details and attenuating noise. The proposed framework establishes a novel convergence between physics-based modeling and data-driven learning, paving the way for more accurate, flexible, and practical lensless imaging solutions for applications ranging from miniature sensors to medical diagnostics. DDFAV: Remote Sensing Large Vision Language Models Dataset and Evaluation BenchmarkHaodong Li, Haicheng Qu, Xiaofeng Zhang
With the rapid development of large vision language models (LVLMs), these models have shown excellent results in various multimodal tasks. Since LVLMs are prone to hallucinations and there are currently few datasets and evaluation methods specifically designed for remote sensing, their performance is typically poor when applied to remote sensing tasks. To address these issues, this paper introduces a high quality remote sensing LVLMs dataset, DDFAV, created using data augmentation and data mixing strategies. Next, a training instruction set is produced based on some high-quality remote sensing images selected from the proposed dataset. MCA-LLaVA: Manhattan Causal Attention for Reducing Hallucination in Large Vision-Language ModelsQiyan Zhao, Xiaofeng Zhang, Yiheng Li et al.
Hallucinations pose a significant challenge in Large Vision Language Models (LVLMs), with misalignment between multimodal features identified as a key contributing factor. This paper reveals the negative impact of the long-term decay in Rotary Position Encoding (RoPE), used for positional modeling in LVLMs, on multimodal alignment. Concretely, under long-term decay, instruction tokens exhibit uneven perception of image tokens located at different positions within the two-dimensional space: prioritizing image tokens from the bottom-right region since in the one-dimensional sequence, these tokens are positionally closer to the instruction tokens. This biased perception leads to insufficient image-instruction interaction and suboptimal multimodal alignment. We refer to this phenomenon as image alignment bias. To enhance instruction's perception of image tokens at different spatial locations, we propose MCA-LLaVA, based on Manhattan distance, which extends the long-term decay to a two-dimensional, multi-directional spatial decay. MCA-LLaVA integrates the one-dimensional sequence order and two-dimensional spatial position of image tokens for positional modeling, mitigating hallucinations by alleviating image alignment bias. Complementarily, we introduce a Semantic Feature Fusion (SFM) plug-and-play module that synergizes semantic context with low-light enhancement operations, sharpening the algorithm's efficacy. CMAMRNet: A Contextual Mask-Aware Network Enhancing Mural Restoration Through Comprehensive Mask GuidanceYingtie Lei, Fanghai Yi, Yihang Dong et al.
Murals, as invaluable cultural artifacts, face continuous deterioration from environmental factors and human activities. Digital restoration of murals faces unique challenges due to their complex degradation patterns and the critical need to preserve artistic authenticity. Existing learning-based methods struggle with maintaining consistent mask guidance throughout their networks, leading to insufficient focus on damaged regions and compromised restoration quality. We propose CMAMRNet, a Contextual Mask-Aware Mural Restoration Network that addresses these limitations through comprehensive mask guidance and multi-scale feature extraction. Our framework introduces two key components: (1) the Mask-Aware Up/Down-Sampler (MAUDS), which ensures consistent mask sensitivity across resolution scales through dedicated channel-wise feature selection and mask-guided feature fusion; and (2) the Co-Feature Aggregator (CFA), operating at both the highest and lowest resolutions to extract complementary features for capturing fine textures and global structures in degraded regions. Experimental results on benchmark datasets demonstrate that CMAMRNet outperforms state-of-the-art methods, effectively preserving both structural integrity and artistic details in restored murals. Weakly supervised learning for pattern classification in serial femtosecond crystallographyJianan Xie, Ji Liu, Chi Zhang et al.
Serial femtosecond crystallography at X-ray free electron laser facilities opens a new era for the determination of crystal structure. However, the data processing of those experiments is facing unprecedented challenge, because the total number of diffraction patterns needed to determinate a high-resolution structure is huge. Machine learning methods are very likely to play important roles in dealing with such a large volume of data. Convolutional neural networks have made a great success in the field of pattern classification, however, training of the networks need very large datasets with labels. Th is heavy dependence on labeled datasets will seriously restrict the application of networks, because it is very costly to annotate a large number of diffraction patterns. In this article we present our job on the classification of diffraction pattern by weakly supervised algorithms, with the aim of reducing as much as possible the size of the labeled dataset required for training. Our result shows that weakly supervised methods can significantly reduce the need for the number of labeled patterns while achieving comparable accuracy to fully supervised methods.

MLGIB: Multi-Label Graph Information Bottleneck for Expressive and Robust Message PassingChaokai Wu, Haofu Shi, Ningxuan Ma et al.
Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) suffer from over-squashing in deep message passing, where information from exponentially growing neighborhoods is compressed into fixed-dimensional representations. We show that this issue becomes a distinct failure mode in multi-label graphs: neighboring nodes often share only limited labels while differing across many irrelevant ones, causing predictive signals to be diluted by noisy label information. To address this challenge, we propose the Multi-Label Graph Information Bottleneck (MLGIB), which formulates multi-label message passing as constrained information transmission under irrelevant label noise. MLGIB balances expressiveness and robustness by preserving predictive label signals while suppressing irrelevant noise. Specifically, it constructs a Markovian dependence space and derives tractable variational bounds, where the lower bound maximizes mutual information with target labels and the upper bound constrains redundant source information. These bounds lead to an end-to-end label-aware message-passing architecture. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmarks demonstrate consistent improvements over existing methods, validating the effectiveness and generality of the proposed framework.

GRACE: Gradient-aligned Reasoning Data Curation for Efficient Post-trainingJunjie Li, Ziao Wang, NingXuan Ma et al.
Existing reasoning data curation pipelines score whole samples, treating every intermediate step as equally valuable. In reality, steps within a trace contribute very unevenly, and selecting reasoning data well requires assessing them individually. We present GRACE, a gradient-aligned curation method that views each reasoning trace as a sequence of optimization events and scores every step by two complementary signals: its alignment with the answer-oriented gradient direction, and its consistency with the preceding reasoning trajectory. Step-level scores are aggregated into a sample-level value for subset selection, using only the model's internal optimization signals and no external reward models or step annotations. To make this scalable, GRACE introduces a representation-level gradient proxy that estimates step-level alignment from token-level upstream signals in a single forward pass. Post-training Qwen3-VL-2B-Instruct on MMathCoT-1M, GRACE reaches 108.8% of the full-data performance with 20% of the data and retains 100.2% with only 5%, with subsets that transfer effectively across model backbones.

Reasoning Fails Where Step Flow BreaksXiaoyu Xu, Yulan Pan, Xiaosong Yuan et al.
Large reasoning models (LRMs) that generate long chains of thought now perform well on multi-step math, science, and coding tasks. However, their behavior is still unstable and hard to interpret, and existing analysis tools struggle with such long, structured reasoning traces. We introduce Step-Saliency, which pools attention--gradient scores into step-to-step maps along the question--thinking--summary trajectory. Across several models, Step-Saliency reveals two recurring information-flow failures: Shallow Lock-in, where shallow layers over-focus on the current step and barely use earlier context, and Deep Decay, where deep layers gradually lose saliency on the thinking segment and the summary increasingly attends to itself and the last few steps. Motivated by these patterns, we propose StepFlow, a saliency-inspired test-time intervention that adjusts shallow saliency patterns measured by Step-Saliency via Odds-Equal Bridge and adds a small step-level residual in deep layers via Step Momentum Injection. StepFlow improves accuracy on math, science, and coding tasks across multiple LRMs without retraining, indicating that repairing information flow can recover part of their missing reasoning performance.

Diversity Recommendation via Causal Deconfounding of Co-purchase Relations and Counterfactual ExposureJingmao Zhang, Zhiting Zhao, Yunqi Lin et al.
Beyond user-item modeling, item-to-item relationships are increasingly used to enhance recommendation. However, common methods largely rely on co-occurrence, making them prone to item popularity bias and user attributes, which degrades embedding quality and performance. Meanwhile, although diversity is acknowledged as a key aspect of recommendation quality, existing research offers limited attention to it, with a notable lack of causal perspectives and theoretical grounding. To address these challenges, we propose Cadence: Diversity Recommendation via Causal Deconfounding of Co-purchase Relations and Counterfactual Exposure - a plug-and-play framework built upon LightGCN as the backbone, primarily designed to enhance recommendation diversity while preserving accuracy. First, we compute the Unbiased Asymmetric Co-purchase Relationship (UACR) between items - excluding item popularity and user attributes - to construct a deconfounded directed item graph, with an aggregation mechanism to refine embeddings. Second, we leverage UACR to identify diverse categories of items that exhibit strong causal relevance to a user's interacted items but have not yet been engaged with. We then simulate their behavior under high-exposure scenarios, thereby significantly enhancing recommendation diversity while preserving relevance. Extensive experiments on real-world datasets demonstrate that our method consistently outperforms state-of-the-art diversity models in both diversity and accuracy, and further validates its effectiveness, transferability, and efficiency over baselines.

ART: Attention Replacement Technique to Improve Factuality in LLMsZiqin Luo, Yihao Quan, Xiaofeng Zhang et al.
Hallucination in large language models (LLMs) continues to be a significant issue, particularly in tasks like question answering, where models often generate plausible yet incorrect or irrelevant information. Although various methods have been proposed to mitigate hallucinations, the relationship between attention patterns and hallucinations has not been fully explored. In this paper, we analyze the distribution of attention scores across each layer and attention head of LLMs, revealing a common and intriguing phenomenon: shallow layers of LLMs primarily rely on uniform attention patterns, where the model distributes its attention evenly across the entire sequence. This uniform attention pattern can lead to hallucinations, as the model fails to focus on the most relevant information. To mitigate this issue, we propose a training-free method called Attention Replacement Technique (ART), which replaces these uniform attention patterns in the shallow layers with local attention patterns. This change directs the model to focus more on the relevant contexts, thus reducing hallucinations. Through extensive experiments, ART demonstrates significant reductions in hallucinations across multiple LLM architectures, proving its effectiveness and generalizability without requiring fine-tuning or additional training data.

From Redundancy to Relevance: Information Flow in LVLMs Across Reasoning TasksXiaofeng Zhang, Yihao Quan, Chen Shen et al.
Large Vision Language Models (LVLMs) achieve great performance on visual-language reasoning tasks, however, the black-box nature of LVLMs hinders in-depth research on the reasoning mechanism. As all images need to be converted into image tokens to fit the input format of large language models (LLMs) along with natural language prompts, sequential visual representation is essential to the performance of LVLMs, and the information flow analysis approach can be an effective tool for determining interactions between these representations. In this paper, we propose integrating attention analysis with LLaVA-CAM, concretely, attention scores highlight relevant regions during forward propagation, while LLaVA-CAM captures gradient changes through backward propagation, revealing key image features. By exploring the information flow from the perspective of visual representation contribution, we observe that it tends to converge in shallow layers but diversify in deeper layers. To validate our analysis, we conduct comprehensive experiments with truncation strategies across various LVLMs for visual question answering and image captioning tasks, and experimental results not only verify our hypothesis but also reveal a consistent pattern of information flow convergence in the corresponding layers, and the information flow cliff layer will be different due to different contexts. Enhancing Multimodal Large Language Models Complex Reason via Similarity ComputationXiaofeng Zhang, Fanshuo Zeng, Yihao Quan et al.
Multimodal large language models have experienced rapid growth, and numerous different models have emerged. The interpretability of LVLMs remains an under-explored area. Especially when faced with more complex tasks such as chain-of-thought reasoning, its internal mechanisms still resemble a black box that is difficult to decipher. By studying the interaction and information flow between images and text, we noticed that in models such as LLaVA1.5, image tokens that are semantically related to text are more likely to have information flow convergence in the LLM decoding layer, and these image tokens receive higher attention scores. However, those image tokens that are less relevant to the text do not have information flow convergence, and they only get very small attention scores. To efficiently utilize the image information, we propose a new image token reduction method, Simignore, which aims to improve the complex reasoning ability of LVLMs by computing the similarity between image and text embeddings and ignoring image tokens that are irrelevant and unimportant to the text. DADA: Deep Adversarial Data Augmentation for Extremely Low Data Regime ClassificationXiaofeng Zhang, Zhangyang Wang, Dong Liu et al.
Deep learning has revolutionized the performance of classification, but meanwhile demands sufficient labeled data for training. Given insufficient data, while many techniques have been developed to help combat overfitting, the challenge remains if one tries to train deep networks, especially in the ill-posed extremely low data regimes: only a small set of labeled data are available, and nothing -- including unlabeled data -- else. Such regimes arise from practical situations where not only data labeling but also data collection itself is expensive. We propose a deep adversarial data augmentation (DADA) technique to address the problem, in which we elaborately formulate data augmentation as a problem of training a class-conditional and supervised generative adversarial network (GAN). Specifically, a new discriminator loss is proposed to fit the goal of data augmentation, through which both real and augmented samples are enforced to contribute to and be consistent in finding the decision boundaries. Tailored training techniques are developed accordingly. To quantitatively validate its effectiveness, we first perform extensive simulations to show that DADA substantially outperforms both traditional data augmentation and a few GAN-based options. We then extend experiments to three real-world small labeled datasets where existing data augmentation and/or transfer learning strategies are either less effective or infeasible. All results endorse the superior capability of DADA in enhancing the generalization ability of deep networks trained in practical extremely low data regimes. BrickPal: Augmented Reality-based Assembly Instructions for Brick ModelsYao Shi, Xiaofeng Zhang, Ran zhang et al.
The assembly instruction is a mandatory component of Lego-like brick sets.The conventional production of assembly instructions requires a considerable amount of manual fine-tuning, which is intractable for casual users and customized brick sets.Moreover, the traditional paper-based instructions lack expressiveness and interactivity.To tackle the two problems above, we present BrickPal, an augmented reality-based system, which visualizes assembly instructions in an augmented reality head-mounted display. It utilizes Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to generate plausible assembly sequences, and provide real-time guidance in the AR headset.Our user study demonstrates BrickPal's effectiveness at assisting users in brick assembly compared to traditional assembly methods. Additionally, the NLP algorithm-generated assembly sequences achieve the same usability with manually adapted sequences.

Seeing Clearly by Layer Two: Enhancing Attention Heads to Alleviate Hallucination in LVLMsXiaofeng Zhang, Yihao Quan, Chaochen Gu et al.
The hallucination problem in multimodal large language models (MLLMs) remains a common issue. Although image tokens occupy a majority of the input sequence of MLLMs, there is limited research to explore the relationship between image tokens and hallucinations. In this paper, we analyze the distribution of attention scores for image tokens across each layer and head of the model, revealing an intriguing and common phenomenon: most hallucinations are closely linked to the pattern of attention sinks in the self-attention matrix of image tokens, where shallow layers exhibit dense attention sinks and deeper layers show sparse attention sinks. We further analyze the attention heads of different layers and find that heads with high-density attention sink in the image part play a positive role in alleviating hallucinations. In this paper, we propose a training-free method named \textcolor{red}{\textbf{E}}nhancing \textcolor{red}{\textbf{A}}ttention \textcolor{red}{\textbf{H}}eads (EAH), an approach designed to enhance the convergence of image tokens attention sinks in the shallow layers. EAH identifies the attention head that shows the vision sink in a shallow layer and extracts its attention matrix. This attention map is then broadcast to other heads in the layer, thereby strengthening the layer to pay more attention to the image itself. With extensive experiments, EAH shows significant hallucination-mitigating performance on different MLLMs and metrics, proving its effectiveness and generality.

High-Fidelity Document Stain Removal via A Large-Scale Real-World Dataset and A Memory-Augmented TransformerMingxian Li, Hao Sun, Yingtie Lei et al.
Document images are often degraded by various stains, significantly impacting their readability and hindering downstream applications such as document digitization and analysis. The absence of a comprehensive stained document dataset has limited the effectiveness of existing document enhancement methods in removing stains while preserving fine-grained details. To address this challenge, we construct StainDoc, the first large-scale, high-resolution ($2145\times2245$) dataset specifically designed for document stain removal. StainDoc comprises over 5,000 pairs of stained and clean document images across multiple scenes. This dataset encompasses a diverse range of stain types, severities, and document backgrounds, facilitating robust training and evaluation of document stain removal algorithms. Furthermore, we propose StainRestorer, a Transformer-based document stain removal approach. StainRestorer employs a memory-augmented Transformer architecture that captures hierarchical stain representations at part, instance, and semantic levels via the DocMemory module. The Stain Removal Transformer (SRTransformer) leverages these feature representations through a dual attention mechanism: an enhanced spatial attention with an expanded receptive field, and a channel attention captures channel-wise feature importance. This combination enables precise stain removal while preserving document content integrity. Extensive experiments demonstrate StainRestorer's superior performance over state-of-the-art methods on the StainDoc dataset and its variants StainDoc\_Mark and StainDoc\_Seal, establishing a new benchmark for document stain removal. Our work highlights the potential of memory-augmented Transformers for this task and contributes a valuable dataset to advance future research.

PKRD-CoT: A Unified Chain-of-thought Prompting for Multi-Modal Large Language Models in Autonomous DrivingXuewen Luo, Fan Ding, Yinsheng Song et al.
There is growing interest in leveraging the capabilities of robust Multi-Modal Large Language Models (MLLMs) directly within autonomous driving contexts. However, the high costs and complexity of designing and training end-to-end autonomous driving models make them challenging for many enterprises and research entities. To address this, our study explores a seamless integration of MLLMs into autonomous driving systems by proposing a Zero-Shot Chain-of-Thought (Zero-Shot-CoT) prompt design named PKRD-CoT. PKRD-CoT is based on the four fundamental capabilities of autonomous driving: perception, knowledge, reasoning, and decision-making. This makes it particularly suitable for understanding and responding to dynamic driving environments by mimicking human thought processes step by step, thus enhancing decision-making in real-time scenarios. Our design enables MLLMs to tackle problems without prior experience, thereby increasing their utility within unstructured autonomous driving environments. In experiments, we demonstrate the exceptional performance of GPT-4.0 with PKRD-CoT across autonomous driving tasks, highlighting its effectiveness in autonomous driving scenarios. Additionally, our benchmark analysis reveals the promising viability of PKRD-CoT for other MLLMs, such as Claude, LLava1.6, and Qwen-VL-Plus. Overall, this study contributes a novel and unified prompt-design framework for GPT-4.0 and other MLLMs in autonomous driving, while also rigorously evaluating the efficacy of these widely recognized MLLMs in the autonomous driving domain through comprehensive comparisons.

How to Determine the Most Powerful Pre-trained Language Model without Brute Force Fine-tuning? An Empirical SurveyJun Bai, Xiaofeng Zhang, Chen Li et al.
Transferability estimation has been attached to great attention in the computer vision fields. Researchers try to estimate with low computational cost the performance of a model when transferred from a source task to a given target task. Considering the effectiveness of such estimations, the communities of natural language processing also began to study similar problems for the selection of pre-trained language models. However, there is a lack of a comprehensive comparison between these estimation methods yet. Also, the differences between vision and language scenarios make it doubtful whether previous conclusions can be established across fields. In this paper, we first conduct a thorough survey of existing transferability estimation methods being able to find the most suitable model, then we conduct a detailed empirical study for the surveyed methods based on the GLUE benchmark. From qualitative and quantitative analyses, we demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses of existing methods and show that H-Score generally performs well with superiorities in effectiveness and efficiency. We also outline the difficulties of consideration of training details, applicability to text generation, and consistency to certain metrics which shed light on future directions.

Wavelet-Decoupling Contrastive Enhancement Network for Fine-Grained Skeleton-Based Action RecognitionHaochen Chang, Jing Chen, Yilin Li et al.
Skeleton-based action recognition has attracted much attention, benefiting from its succinctness and robustness. However, the minimal inter-class variation in similar action sequences often leads to confusion. The inherent spatiotemporal coupling characteristics make it challenging to mine the subtle differences in joint motion trajectories, which is critical for distinguishing confusing fine-grained actions. To alleviate this problem, we propose a Wavelet-Attention Decoupling (WAD) module that utilizes discrete wavelet transform to effectively disentangle salient and subtle motion features in the time-frequency domain. Then, the decoupling attention adaptively recalibrates their temporal responses. To further amplify the discrepancies in these subtle motion features, we propose a Fine-grained Contrastive Enhancement (FCE) module to enhance attention towards trajectory features by contrastive learning. Extensive experiments are conducted on the coarse-grained dataset NTU RGB+D and the fine-grained dataset FineGYM. Our methods perform competitively compared to state-of-the-art methods and can discriminate confusing fine-grained actions well.

Improving Complex Reasoning with Dynamic Prompt Corruption: A soft prompt Optimization ApproachSinan Fan, Liang Xie, Chen Shen et al.
Prompt-tuning (PT) for large language models (LLMs) can facilitate the performance on various conventional NLP tasks with significantly fewer trainable parameters. However, our investigation reveals that PT provides limited improvement and may even degrade the primitive performance of LLMs on complex reasoning tasks. Such a phenomenon suggests that soft prompts can positively impact certain instances while negatively affecting others, particularly during the later phases of reasoning. To address these challenges, We first identify an information accumulation within the soft prompts. Through detailed analysis, we demonstrate that this phenomenon is often accompanied by erroneous information flow patterns in the deeper layers of the model, which ultimately lead to incorrect reasoning outcomes. we propose a novel method called Dynamic Prompt Corruption (DPC) to take better advantage of soft prompts in complex reasoning tasks, which dynamically adjusts the influence of soft prompts based on their impact on the reasoning process. Specifically, DPC consists of two stages: Dynamic Trigger and Dynamic Corruption. First, Dynamic Trigger measures the impact of soft prompts, identifying whether beneficial or detrimental. Then, Dynamic Corruption mitigates the negative effects of soft prompts by selectively masking key tokens that interfere with the reasoning process. We validate the proposed approach through extensive experiments on various LLMs and reasoning tasks, including GSM8K, MATH, and AQuA. Experimental results demonstrate that DPC can consistently enhance the performance of PT, achieving 4%-8% accuracy gains compared to vanilla prompt tuning, highlighting the effectiveness of our approach and its potential to enhance complex reasoning in LLMs.

CulturalFrames: Assessing Cultural Expectation Alignment in Text-to-Image Models and Evaluation MetricsShravan Nayak, Mehar Bhatia, Xiaofeng Zhang et al. · eth-zurich
The increasing ubiquity of text-to-image (T2I) models as tools for visual content generation raises concerns about their ability to accurately represent diverse cultural contexts -- where missed cues can stereotype communities and undermine usability. In this work, we present the first study to systematically quantify the alignment of T2I models and evaluation metrics with respect to both explicit (stated) as well as implicit (unstated, implied by the prompt's cultural context) cultural expectations. To this end, we introduce CulturalFrames, a novel benchmark designed for rigorous human evaluation of cultural representation in visual generations. Spanning 10 countries and 5 socio-cultural domains, CulturalFrames comprises 983 prompts, 3637 corresponding images generated by 4 state-of-the-art T2I models, and over 10k detailed human annotations. We find that across models and countries, cultural expectations are missed an average of 44% of the time. Among these failures, explicit expectations are missed at a surprisingly high average rate of 68%, while implicit expectation failures are also significant, averaging 49%. Furthermore, we show that existing T2I evaluation metrics correlate poorly with human judgments of cultural alignment, irrespective of their internal reasoning. Collectively, our findings expose critical gaps, provide a concrete testbed, and outline actionable directions for developing culturally informed T2I models and metrics that improve global usability.

Increasing the Utility of Synthetic Images through Chamfer GuidanceNicola Dall'Asen, Xiaofeng Zhang, Reyhane Askari Hemmat et al.
Conditional image generative models hold considerable promise to produce infinite amounts of synthetic training data. Yet, recent progress in generation quality has come at the expense of generation diversity, limiting the utility of these models as a source of synthetic training data. Although guidance-based approaches have been introduced to improve the utility of generated data by focusing on quality or diversity, the (implicit or explicit) utility functions oftentimes disregard the potential distribution shift between synthetic and real data. In this work, we introduce Chamfer Guidance: a training-free guidance approach which leverages a handful of real exemplar images to characterize the quality and diversity of synthetic data. We show that by leveraging the proposed Chamfer Guidance, we can boost the diversity of the generations w.r.t. a dataset of real images while maintaining or improving the generation quality on ImageNet-1k and standard geo-diversity benchmarks. Our approach achieves state-of-the-art few-shot performance with as little as 2 exemplar real images, obtaining 96.4% in terms of precision, and 86.4% in terms of distributional coverage, which increase to 97.5% and 92.7%, respectively, when using 32 real images. We showcase the benefits of the Chamfer Guidance generation by training downstream image classifiers on synthetic data, achieving accuracy boost of up to 15% for in-distribution over the baselines, and up to 16% in out-of-distribution. Furthermore, our approach does not require using the unconditional model, and thus obtains a 31% reduction in FLOPs w.r.t. classifier-free-guidance-based approaches at sampling time.

Fine-Grained Preference Optimization Improves Spatial Reasoning in VLMsYifan Shen, Yuanzhe Liu, Jingyuan Zhu et al.
Current Vision-Language Models (VLMs) struggle with fine-grained spatial reasoning, particularly when multi-step logic and precise spatial alignment are required. In this work, we introduce SpatialReasoner-R1, a vision-language reasoning model designed to address these limitations. To construct high-quality supervision for spatial reasoning, we design a Multi-Model Monte Carlo Tree Search (M3CTS) method that generates diverse, logically consistent Long Chain-of-Thought (LongCoT) reasoning trajectories. In addition, we propose fine-grained Direct Preference Optimization (fDPO), which introduces segment-specific preference granularity for descriptive grounding and logical reasoning, guided by a spatial reward mechanism that evaluates candidate responses based on visual consistency, spatial grounding, and logical coherence. Experimental results demonstrate that fDPO achieves an average improvement of 4.1% over standard DPO across spatial quality tasks, and a 9.0% gain in spatial quantity tasks. SpatialReasoner-R1, trained with fDPO, sets a new SoTA on SPATIALRGPT-Bench, outperforming the strongest baseline by 9.8% in average accuracy, while maintaining competitive performance on general vision-language tasks.
