DINO: DETR with Improved DeNoising Anchor Boxes for End-to-End Object Detection

We present DINO (\textbf{D}ETR with \textbf{I}mproved de\textbf{N}oising anch\textbf{O}r boxes), a state-of-the-art end-to-end object detector. % in this paper. DINO improves over previous DETR-like models in performance and efficiency by using a contrastive way for denoising training, a mixed query selection method for anchor initialization, and a look forward twice scheme for box prediction. DINO achieves $49.4$AP in $12$ epochs and $51.3$AP in $24$ epochs on COCO with a ResNet-50 backbone and multi-scale features, yielding a significant improvement of $\textbf{+6.0}$\textbf{AP} and $\textbf{+2.7}$\textbf{AP}, respectively, compared to DN-DETR, the previous best DETR-like model. DINO scales well in both model size and data size. Without bells and whistles, after pre-training on the Objects365 dataset with a SwinL backbone, DINO obtains the best results on both COCO \texttt{val2017} ($\textbf{63.2}$\textbf{AP}) and \texttt{test-dev} (\textbf{$\textbf{63.3}$AP}). Compared to other models on the leaderboard, DINO significantly reduces its model size and pre-training data size while achieving better results. DN-DETR: Accelerate DETR Training by Introducing Query DeNoising

We present in this paper a novel denoising training method to speedup DETR (DEtection TRansformer) training and offer a deepened understanding of the slow convergence issue of DETR-like methods. We show that the slow convergence results from the instability of bipartite graph matching which causes inconsistent optimization goals in early training stages. To address this issue, except for the Hungarian loss, our method additionally feeds ground-truth bounding boxes with noises into Transformer decoder and trains the model to reconstruct the original boxes, which effectively reduces the bipartite graph matching difficulty and leads to a faster convergence. Our method is universal and can be easily plugged into any DETR-like methods by adding dozens of lines of code to achieve a remarkable improvement. As a result, our DN-DETR results in a remarkable improvement ($+1.9$AP) under the same setting and achieves the best result (AP $43.4$ and $48.6$ with $12$ and $50$ epochs of training respectively) among DETR-like methods with ResNet-$50$ backbone. Mask DINO: Towards A Unified Transformer-based Framework for Object Detection and Segmentation

In this paper we present Mask DINO, a unified object detection and segmentation framework. Mask DINO extends DINO (DETR with Improved Denoising Anchor Boxes) by adding a mask prediction branch which supports all image segmentation tasks (instance, panoptic, and semantic). It makes use of the query embeddings from DINO to dot-product a high-resolution pixel embedding map to predict a set of binary masks. Some key components in DINO are extended for segmentation through a shared architecture and training process. Mask DINO is simple, efficient, and scalable, and it can benefit from joint large-scale detection and segmentation datasets. Our experiments show that Mask DINO significantly outperforms all existing specialized segmentation methods, both on a ResNet-50 backbone and a pre-trained model with SwinL backbone. Notably, Mask DINO establishes the best results to date on instance segmentation (54.5 AP on COCO), panoptic segmentation (59.4 PQ on COCO), and semantic segmentation (60.8 mIoU on ADE20K) among models under one billion parameters. Grounding DINO: Marrying DINO with Grounded Pre-Training for Open-Set Object Detection

In this paper, we present an open-set object detector, called Grounding DINO, by marrying Transformer-based detector DINO with grounded pre-training, which can detect arbitrary objects with human inputs such as category names or referring expressions. The key solution of open-set object detection is introducing language to a closed-set detector for open-set concept generalization. To effectively fuse language and vision modalities, we conceptually divide a closed-set detector into three phases and propose a tight fusion solution, which includes a feature enhancer, a language-guided query selection, and a cross-modality decoder for cross-modality fusion. While previous works mainly evaluate open-set object detection on novel categories, we propose to also perform evaluations on referring expression comprehension for objects specified with attributes. Grounding DINO performs remarkably well on all three settings, including benchmarks on COCO, LVIS, ODinW, and RefCOCO/+/g. Grounding DINO achieves a $52.5$ AP on the COCO detection zero-shot transfer benchmark, i.e., without any training data from COCO. Segment Everything Everywhere All at Once

In this work, we present SEEM, a promptable and interactive model for segmenting everything everywhere all at once in an image, as shown in Fig.1. In SEEM, we propose a novel decoding mechanism that enables diverse prompting for all types of segmentation tasks, aiming at a universal segmentation interface that behaves like large language models (LLMs). More specifically, SEEM is designed with four desiderata: i) Versatility. We introduce a new visual prompt to unify different spatial queries including points, boxes, scribbles and masks, which can further generalize to a different referring image; ii) Compositionality. We learn a joint visual-semantic space between text and visual prompts, which facilitates the dynamic composition of two prompt types required for various segmentation tasks; iii) Interactivity. We further incorporate learnable memory prompts into the decoder to retain segmentation history through mask-guided cross-attention from decoder to image features; and iv) Semantic-awareness. We use a text encoder to encode text queries and mask labels into the same semantic space for open-vocabulary segmentation. We conduct a comprehensive empirical study to validate the effectiveness of SEEM across diverse segmentation tasks. Notably, our single SEEM model achieves competitive performance across interactive segmentation, generic segmentation, referring segmentation, and video object segmentation on 9 datasets with minimum 1/100 supervision. Furthermore, SEEM showcases a remarkable capacity for generalization to novel prompts or their combinations, rendering it a readily universal image segmentation interface.

SAM 3: Segment Anything with Concepts

We present Segment Anything Model (SAM) 3, a unified model that detects, segments, and tracks objects in images and videos based on concept prompts, which we define as either short noun phrases (e.g., "yellow school bus"), image exemplars, or a combination of both. Promptable Concept Segmentation (PCS) takes such prompts and returns segmentation masks and unique identities for all matching object instances. To advance PCS, we build a scalable data engine that produces a high-quality dataset with 4M unique concept labels, including hard negatives, across images and videos. Our model consists of an image-level detector and a memory-based video tracker that share a single backbone. Recognition and localization are decoupled with a presence head, which boosts detection accuracy. SAM 3 doubles the accuracy of existing systems in both image and video PCS, and improves previous SAM capabilities on visual segmentation tasks. We open source SAM 3 along with our new Segment Anything with Concepts (SA-Co) benchmark for promptable concept segmentation.

Lite DETR : An Interleaved Multi-Scale Encoder for Efficient DETR

Recent DEtection TRansformer-based (DETR) models have obtained remarkable performance. Its success cannot be achieved without the re-introduction of multi-scale feature fusion in the encoder. However, the excessively increased tokens in multi-scale features, especially for about 75\% of low-level features, are quite computationally inefficient, which hinders real applications of DETR models. In this paper, we present Lite DETR, a simple yet efficient end-to-end object detection framework that can effectively reduce the GFLOPs of the detection head by 60\% while keeping 99\% of the original performance. Specifically, we design an efficient encoder block to update high-level features (corresponding to small-resolution feature maps) and low-level features (corresponding to large-resolution feature maps) in an interleaved way. In addition, to better fuse cross-scale features, we develop a key-aware deformable attention to predict more reliable attention weights. Comprehensive experiments validate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed Lite DETR, and the efficient encoder strategy can generalize well across existing DETR-based models. MP-Former: Mask-Piloted Transformer for Image Segmentation

We present a mask-piloted Transformer which improves masked-attention in Mask2Former for image segmentation. The improvement is based on our observation that Mask2Former suffers from inconsistent mask predictions between consecutive decoder layers, which leads to inconsistent optimization goals and low utilization of decoder queries. To address this problem, we propose a mask-piloted training approach, which additionally feeds noised ground-truth masks in masked-attention and trains the model to reconstruct the original ones. Compared with the predicted masks used in mask-attention, the ground-truth masks serve as a pilot and effectively alleviate the negative impact of inaccurate mask predictions in Mask2Former. Based on this technique, our \M achieves a remarkable performance improvement on all three image segmentation tasks (instance, panoptic, and semantic), yielding $+2.3$AP and $+1.6$mIoU on the Cityscapes instance and semantic segmentation tasks with a ResNet-50 backbone. Our method also significantly speeds up the training, outperforming Mask2Former with half of the number of training epochs on ADE20K with both a ResNet-50 and a Swin-L backbones. Learning Detail-Structure Alternative Optimization for Blind Super-Resolution

Existing convolutional neural networks (CNN) based image super-resolution (SR) methods have achieved impressive performance on bicubic kernel, which is not valid to handle unknown degradations in real-world applications. Recent blind SR methods suggest to reconstruct SR images relying on blur kernel estimation. However, their results still remain visible artifacts and detail distortion due to the estimation errors. To alleviate these problems, in this paper, we propose an effective and kernel-free network, namely DSSR, which enables recurrent detail-structure alternative optimization without blur kernel prior incorporation for blind SR. Specifically, in our DSSR, a detail-structure modulation module (DSMM) is built to exploit the interaction and collaboration of image details and structures. The DSMM consists of two components: a detail restoration unit (DRU) and a structure modulation unit (SMU). The former aims at regressing the intermediate HR detail reconstruction from LR structural contexts, and the latter performs structural contexts modulation conditioned on the learned detail maps at both HR and LR spaces. Besides, we use the output of DSMM as the hidden state and design our DSSR architecture from a recurrent convolutional neural network (RCNN) view. In this way, the network can alternatively optimize the image details and structural contexts, achieving co-optimization across time. Moreover, equipped with the recurrent connection, our DSSR allows low- and high-level feature representations complementary by observing previous HR details and contexts at every unrolling time. Extensive experiments on synthetic datasets and real-world images demonstrate that our method achieves the state-of-the-art against existing methods. Set-of-Mark Prompting Unleashes Extraordinary Visual Grounding in GPT-4V

We present Set-of-Mark (SoM), a new visual prompting method, to unleash the visual grounding abilities of large multimodal models (LMMs), such as GPT-4V. As illustrated in Fig. 1 (right), we employ off-the-shelf interactive segmentation models, such as SEEM/SAM, to partition an image into regions at different levels of granularity, and overlay these regions with a set of marks e.g., alphanumerics, masks, boxes. Using the marked image as input, GPT-4V can answer the questions that require visual grounding. We perform a comprehensive empirical study to validate the effectiveness of SoM on a wide range of fine-grained vision and multimodal tasks. For example, our experiments show that GPT-4V with SoM in zero-shot setting outperforms the state-of-the-art fully-finetuned referring expression comprehension and segmentation model on RefCOCOg. Progressive Semantic-Visual Mutual Adaption for Generalized Zero-Shot Learning

Generalized Zero-Shot Learning (GZSL) identifies unseen categories by knowledge transferred from the seen domain, relying on the intrinsic interactions between visual and semantic information. Prior works mainly localize regions corresponding to the sharing attributes. When various visual appearances correspond to the same attribute, the sharing attributes inevitably introduce semantic ambiguity, hampering the exploration of accurate semantic-visual interactions. In this paper, we deploy the dual semantic-visual transformer module (DSVTM) to progressively model the correspondences between attribute prototypes and visual features, constituting a progressive semantic-visual mutual adaption (PSVMA) network for semantic disambiguation and knowledge transferability improvement. Specifically, DSVTM devises an instance-motivated semantic encoder that learns instance-centric prototypes to adapt to different images, enabling the recast of the unmatched semantic-visual pair into the matched one. Then, a semantic-motivated instance decoder strengthens accurate cross-domain interactions between the matched pair for semantic-related instance adaption, encouraging the generation of unambiguous visual representations. Moreover, to mitigate the bias towards seen classes in GZSL, a debiasing loss is proposed to pursue response consistency between seen and unseen predictions. LLaVA-Plus: Learning to Use Tools for Creating Multimodal Agents

LLaVA-Plus is a general-purpose multimodal assistant that expands the capabilities of large multimodal models. It maintains a skill repository of pre-trained vision and vision-language models and can activate relevant tools based on users' inputs to fulfill real-world tasks. LLaVA-Plus is trained on multimodal instruction-following data to acquire the ability to use tools, covering visual understanding, generation, external knowledge retrieval, and compositions. Empirical results show that LLaVA-Plus outperforms LLaVA in existing capabilities and exhibits new ones. It is distinct in that the image query is directly grounded and actively engaged throughout the entire human-AI interaction sessions, significantly improving tool use performance and enabling new scenarios.

detrex: Benchmarking Detection Transformers

The DEtection TRansformer (DETR) algorithm has received considerable attention in the research community and is gradually emerging as a mainstream approach for object detection and other perception tasks. However, the current field lacks a unified and comprehensive benchmark specifically tailored for DETR-based models. To address this issue, we develop a unified, highly modular, and lightweight codebase called detrex, which supports a majority of the mainstream DETR-based instance recognition algorithms, covering various fundamental tasks, including object detection, segmentation, and pose estimation. We conduct extensive experiments under detrex and perform a comprehensive benchmark for DETR-based models. Moreover, we enhance the performance of detection transformers through the refinement of training hyper-parameters, providing strong baselines for supported algorithms.We hope that detrex could offer research communities a standardized and unified platform to evaluate and compare different DETR-based models while fostering a deeper understanding and driving advancements in DETR-based instance recognition. We encourage the community to use detrex codebase for further development and contributions.

Detection Transformer with Stable Matching

This paper is concerned with the matching stability problem across different decoder layers in DEtection TRansformers (DETR). We point out that the unstable matching in DETR is caused by a multi-optimization path problem, which is highlighted by the one-to-one matching design in DETR. To address this problem, we show that the most important design is to use and only use positional metrics (like IOU) to supervise classification scores of positive examples. Under the principle, we propose two simple yet effective modifications by integrating positional metrics to DETR's classification loss and matching cost, named position-supervised loss and position-modulated cost. We verify our methods on several DETR variants. Our methods show consistent improvements over baselines. By integrating our methods with DINO, we achieve 50.4 and 51.5 AP on the COCO detection benchmark using ResNet-50 backbones under 12 epochs and 24 epochs training settings, achieving a new record under the same setting. We achieve 63.8 AP on COCO detection test-dev with a Swin-Large backbone. Our code will be made available at https://github.com/IDEA-Research/Stable-DINO.

Multi-Contrast MRI Motion Correction via Parameter-Informed Disentanglement and Adaptive Experts

Motion artifacts in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) degrade diagnostic reliability. Existing deep learning methods are typically contrast-specific and fail to generalize across diverse modalities and artifact severities. We propose a unified framework combining parameter-informed contrast disentanglement with severity-aware adaptive correction. ScanCLIP, pretrained on over 30,000 MRI text-image pairs, derives contrast embeddings from acquisition parameters to disentangle contrast style from anatomical content, yielding contrast-free features. A Vision Transformer then estimates motion severity and routes features through a Mixture-of-Experts network, enabling targeted artifact correction. A dual-pathway decoder reconstructs both the clean image and residual artifact map, enforcing image-space consistency. On IXI and HCP benchmarks, our method improves PSNR by 0.75 dB and SSIM by up to 0.0279 over state-of-the-art approaches, with larger gains at higher artifact severities. It further demonstrates robust zero-shot generalization on real-world clinical data acquired with unseen scanning parameters, where existing methods either fail to remove artifacts or introduce additional distortions.

LLaVA-NeXT-Interleave: Tackling Multi-image, Video, and 3D in Large Multimodal Models

Visual instruction tuning has made considerable strides in enhancing the capabilities of Large Multimodal Models (LMMs). However, existing open LMMs largely focus on single-image tasks, their applications to multi-image scenarios remains less explored. Additionally, prior LMM research separately tackles different scenarios, leaving it impossible to generalize cross scenarios with new emerging capabilities. To this end, we introduce LLaVA-NeXT-Interleave, which simultaneously tackles Multi-image, Multi-frame (video), Multi-view (3D), and Multi-patch (single-image) scenarios in LMMs. To enable these capabilities, we regard the interleaved data format as a general template and compile the M4-Instruct dataset with 1,177.6k samples, spanning 4 primary domains with 14 tasks and 41 datasets. We also curate the LLaVA-Interleave Bench to comprehensively evaluate the multi-image performance of LMMs. Through extensive experiments, LLaVA-NeXT-Interleave achieves leading results in multi-image, video, and 3D benchmarks, while maintaining the performance of single-image tasks. Exploring Resolution Fields for Scalable Image Compression with Uncertainty Guidance

Recently, there are significant advancements in learning-based image compression methods surpassing traditional coding standards. Most of them prioritize achieving the best rate-distortion performance for a particular compression rate, which limits their flexibility and adaptability in various applications with complex and varying constraints. In this work, we explore the potential of resolution fields in scalable image compression and propose the reciprocal pyramid network (RPN) that fulfills the need for more adaptable and versatile compression. Specifically, RPN first builds a compression pyramid and generates the resolution fields at different levels in a top-down manner. The key design lies in the cross-resolution context mining module between adjacent levels, which performs feature enriching and distillation to mine meaningful contextualized information and remove unnecessary redundancy, producing informative resolution fields as residual priors. The scalability is achieved by progressive bitstream reusing and resolution field incorporation varying at different levels. Furthermore, between adjacent compression levels, we explicitly quantify the aleatoric uncertainty from the bottom decoded representations and develop an uncertainty-guided loss to update the upper-level compression parameters, forming a reverse pyramid process that enforces the network to focus on the textured pixels with high variance for more reliable and accurate reconstruction. Combining resolution field exploration and uncertainty guidance in a pyramid manner, RPN can effectively achieve spatial and quality scalable image compression. DQ-DETR: Dual Query Detection Transformer for Phrase Extraction and Grounding

In this paper, we study the problem of visual grounding by considering both phrase extraction and grounding (PEG). In contrast to the previous phrase-known-at-test setting, PEG requires a model to extract phrases from text and locate objects from images simultaneously, which is a more practical setting in real applications. As phrase extraction can be regarded as a $1$D text segmentation problem, we formulate PEG as a dual detection problem and propose a novel DQ-DETR model, which introduces dual queries to probe different features from image and text for object prediction and phrase mask prediction. Each pair of dual queries is designed to have shared positional parts but different content parts. Such a design effectively alleviates the difficulty of modality alignment between image and text (in contrast to a single query design) and empowers Transformer decoder to leverage phrase mask-guided attention to improve performance. To evaluate the performance of PEG, we also propose a new metric CMAP (cross-modal average precision), analogous to the AP metric in object detection. The new metric overcomes the ambiguity of Recall@1 in many-box-to-one-phrase cases in phrase grounding. As a result, our PEG pre-trained DQ-DETR establishes new state-of-the-art results on all visual grounding benchmarks with a ResNet-101 backbone. For example, it achieves $91.04\%$ and $83.51\%$ in terms of recall rate on RefCOCO testA and testB with a ResNet-101 backbone. Visual In-Context Prompting

In-context prompting in large language models (LLMs) has become a prevalent approach to improve zero-shot capabilities, but this idea is less explored in the vision domain. Existing visual prompting methods focus on referring segmentation to segment the most relevant object, falling short of addressing many generic vision tasks like open-set segmentation and detection. In this paper, we introduce a universal visual in-context prompting framework for both tasks. In particular, we build on top of an encoder-decoder architecture, and develop a versatile prompt encoder to support a variety of prompts like strokes, boxes, and points. We further enhance it to take an arbitrary number of reference image segments as the context. Our extensive explorations show that the proposed visual in-context prompting elicits extraordinary referring and generic segmentation capabilities to refer and detect, yielding competitive performance to close-set in-domain datasets and showing promising results on many open-set segmentation datasets. By joint training on COCO and SA-1B, our model achieves $57.7$ PQ on COCO and $23.2$ PQ on ADE20K. Code will be available at https://github.com/UX-Decoder/DINOv.

Explicit Box Detection Unifies End-to-End Multi-Person Pose Estimation

This paper presents a novel end-to-end framework with Explicit box Detection for multi-person Pose estimation, called ED-Pose, where it unifies the contextual learning between human-level (global) and keypoint-level (local) information. Different from previous one-stage methods, ED-Pose re-considers this task as two explicit box detection processes with a unified representation and regression supervision. First, we introduce a human detection decoder from encoded tokens to extract global features. It can provide a good initialization for the latter keypoint detection, making the training process converge fast. Second, to bring in contextual information near keypoints, we regard pose estimation as a keypoint box detection problem to learn both box positions and contents for each keypoint. A human-to-keypoint detection decoder adopts an interactive learning strategy between human and keypoint features to further enhance global and local feature aggregation. In general, ED-Pose is conceptually simple without post-processing and dense heatmap supervision. It demonstrates its effectiveness and efficiency compared with both two-stage and one-stage methods. Notably, explicit box detection boosts the pose estimation performance by 4.5 AP on COCO and 9.9 AP on CrowdPose. For the first time, as a fully end-to-end framework with a L1 regression loss, ED-Pose surpasses heatmap-based Top-down methods under the same backbone by 1.2 AP on COCO and achieves the state-of-the-art with 76.6 AP on CrowdPose without bells and whistles. You Can Mask More For Extremely Low-Bitrate Image Compression

Learned image compression (LIC) methods have experienced significant progress during recent years. However, these methods are primarily dedicated to optimizing the rate-distortion (R-D) performance at medium and high bitrates (> 0.1 bits per pixel (bpp)), while research on extremely low bitrates is limited. Besides, existing methods fail to explicitly explore the image structure and texture components crucial for image compression, treating them equally alongside uninformative components in networks. This can cause severe perceptual quality degradation, especially under low-bitrate scenarios. In this work, inspired by the success of pre-trained masked autoencoders (MAE) in many downstream tasks, we propose to rethink its mask sampling strategy from structure and texture perspectives for high redundancy reduction and discriminative feature representation, further unleashing the potential of LIC methods. Therefore, we present a dual-adaptive masking approach (DA-Mask) that samples visible patches based on the structure and texture distributions of original images. We combine DA-Mask and pre-trained MAE in masked image modeling (MIM) as an initial compressor that abstracts informative semantic context and texture representations. Such a pipeline can well cooperate with LIC networks to achieve further secondary compression while preserving promising reconstruction quality. Consequently, we propose a simple yet effective masked compression model (MCM), the first framework that unifies MIM and LIC end-to-end for extremely low-bitrate image compression. Extensive experiments have demonstrated that our approach outperforms recent state-of-the-art methods in R-D performance, visual quality, and downstream applications, at very low bitrates. Neural Interactive Keypoint Detection

This work proposes an end-to-end neural interactive keypoint detection framework named Click-Pose, which can significantly reduce more than 10 times labeling costs of 2D keypoint annotation compared with manual-only annotation. Click-Pose explores how user feedback can cooperate with a neural keypoint detector to correct the predicted keypoints in an interactive way for a faster and more effective annotation process. Specifically, we design the pose error modeling strategy that inputs the ground truth pose combined with four typical pose errors into the decoder and trains the model to reconstruct the correct poses, which enhances the self-correction ability of the model. Then, we attach an interactive human-feedback loop that allows receiving users' clicks to correct one or several predicted keypoints and iteratively utilizes the decoder to update all other keypoints with a minimum number of clicks (NoC) for efficient annotation. We validate Click-Pose in in-domain, out-of-domain scenes, and a new task of keypoint adaptation. For annotation, Click-Pose only needs 1.97 and 6.45 NoC@95 (at precision 95%) on COCO and Human-Art, reducing 31.4% and 36.3% efforts than the SOTA model (ViTPose) with manual correction, respectively. Besides, without user clicks, Click-Pose surpasses the previous end-to-end model by 1.4 AP on COCO and 3.0 AP on Human-Art. The code is available at https://github.com/IDEA-Research/Click-Pose.

Forecasting large collections of time series: feature-based methods

Semantic-SAM: Segment and Recognize Anything at Any Granularity

In this paper, we introduce Semantic-SAM, a universal image segmentation model to enable segment and recognize anything at any desired granularity. Our model offers two key advantages: semantic-awareness and granularity-abundance. To achieve semantic-awareness, we consolidate multiple datasets across three granularities and introduce decoupled classification for objects and parts. This allows our model to capture rich semantic information. For the multi-granularity capability, we propose a multi-choice learning scheme during training, enabling each click to generate masks at multiple levels that correspond to multiple ground-truth masks. Notably, this work represents the first attempt to jointly train a model on SA-1B, generic, and part segmentation datasets. Experimental results and visualizations demonstrate that our model successfully achieves semantic-awareness and granularity-abundance. Furthermore, combining SA-1B training with other segmentation tasks, such as panoptic and part segmentation, leads to performance improvements. We will provide code and a demo for further exploration and evaluation.

A Simple Framework for Open-Vocabulary Segmentation and Detection

We present OpenSeeD, a simple Open-vocabulary Segmentation and Detection framework that jointly learns from different segmentation and detection datasets. To bridge the gap of vocabulary and annotation granularity, we first introduce a pre-trained text encoder to encode all the visual concepts in two tasks and learn a common semantic space for them. This gives us reasonably good results compared with the counterparts trained on segmentation task only. To further reconcile them, we locate two discrepancies: $i$) task discrepancy -- segmentation requires extracting masks for both foreground objects and background stuff, while detection merely cares about the former; $ii$) data discrepancy -- box and mask annotations are with different spatial granularity, and thus not directly interchangeable. To address these issues, we propose a decoupled decoding to reduce the interference between foreground/background and a conditioned mask decoding to assist in generating masks for given boxes. To this end, we develop a simple encoder-decoder model encompassing all three techniques and train it jointly on COCO and Objects365. After pre-training, our model exhibits competitive or stronger zero-shot transferability for both segmentation and detection. Specifically, OpenSeeD beats the state-of-the-art method for open-vocabulary instance and panoptic segmentation across 5 datasets, and outperforms previous work for open-vocabulary detection on LVIS and ODinW under similar settings. When transferred to specific tasks, our model achieves new SoTA for panoptic segmentation on COCO and ADE20K, and instance segmentation on ADE20K and Cityscapes. Finally, we note that OpenSeeD is the first to explore the potential of joint training on segmentation and detection, and hope it can be received as a strong baseline for developing a single model for both tasks in open world.

DPDL: Towards Differential Privacy Preservation in Decentralized Stochastic Learning on Non-IID Data

In the paradigm of decentralized learning, a group of agents collaborate to train a global model using distributed datasets without a central server. Although the power of collaboration has been verified by many state-of-the-art studies, it entails extensive gradient information exchanging among the agents and thus induces high risk of privacy leakage for the individual agents. Moreover, in real-world applications, the training data are usually non-identically and independently distributed across the agents, inducing more challenges to enable privacy-preserved decentralized learning. To address these issues, we propose a privacy-preserved decentralized learning algorithm with non-IID data, DPDL, which leverages the notion of Differential Privacy (DP) in cross-gradient aggregation through a similarity-based calibration technique. Specifically, in each round, each agent perturbs the cross-gradients (i.e., the derivatives of its neighbors' local model in its private local data) by Gaussian noise mechanism before sharing them with its neighbors; it then adopt cosine similarity to calibrate the received perturbed cross-gradients such that the aggregation of the calibrated cross-gradients can be utilized to effectively update local model in a momentum-like manner. Our rigorous theoretical analysis not only reveals the minimum noise level required to achieve a specific level of privacy preservation, but also illustrates that our algorithm still achieves a linear speedup in training with non-IID data. We finally conduct extensive experiments on real-world dataset to validate the effectiveness of our algorithm in defending privacy attacks and in training accurate models.

A Locally Deployed RAG-Based Academic Advising System for Course Selection

The correct sequence of courses in the curriculum based on prerequisites between courses is of great importance for students to develop their knowledge and skills holistically. However, students crafting this sequence in isolation frequently struggle with recognition limitations and information overload that leads to confusion. Simultaneously, education institutions encounter difficulties in providing adequate academic advice for the correct sequence due to limited education resources. To address these challenges, we propose a locally deployed RAG-based academic advising system grounded in syllabus information. By combining large language models with retrieval from structured syllabus data, the system is designed to support course selection, prerequisite understanding, and personalized study planning in a privacy-preserving manner.

DECA: Decentralizing Block-Wise Adam for Efficient LLM Full-Parameter Fine-Tuning on Non-IID Data

Fine-tuning large language models (LLMs) in privacy-sensitive and resource-constrained environments remains challenging. Since training data are often distributed across multiple clients, decentralized fine-tuning offers a natural paradigm for collaborative adaptation without a central server. However, enabling full-parameter fine-tuning (FPFT) in this decentralized setting is difficult: FPFT provides strong adaptation capacity but incurs prohibitive resource consumption for billion-scale models. Existing decentralized LLM fine-tuning methods therefore mainly rely on parameter-efficient updates, which improve efficiency but may restrict downstream performance. Moreover, client data are typically non-IID, making decentralized optimization more vulnerable to client drift and unstable convergence. To address these challenges, we propose DECA, a resource-efficient decentralized FPFT framework for LLMs on non-IID data. DECA partitions model parameters into disjoint blocks and performs sequential block-wise Adam optimization, reducing resource consumption while preserving decentralized full-parameter adaptation. To stabilize training, DECA further introduces first- and second-order block-wise moment estimates with fresh local gradient statistics and consensus-derived discrepancy signals. We provide rigorous theoretical analysis and extensive experiments, showing that DECA achieves fast convergence, strong downstream performance, and significant resource efficiency.

FGRPO: Federated GRPO with Adaptive Aggregation on Non-IID Data

Recent advances in language models have established reinforcement learning as the primary paradigm for eliciting self-correction and long-chain reasoning. While group relative policy optimization (GRPO) offers superior scalability by eliminating the critic network, deploying it on a central infrastructure entails collecting a large volume of data from distributed owners, which poses significant privacy risks. To address these concerns, we introduce federated GRPO (FGRPO), a framework designed to decentralize the fine-tuning of reasoning models across heterogeneous data owners. To effectively mitigate the instability caused by divergent reward scales across heterogeneous tasks, FGRPO incorporates an adaptive aggregation mechanism based on relative performance gain. By characterizing each client's improvement relative to its personalized historical baseline, the framework dynamically prioritizes effective learning trajectories regardless of local task difficulty. FGRPO ensures robust convergence on non-IID data while preserving data privacy.

Vision-Language Intelligence: Tasks, Representation Learning, and Large Models

This paper presents a comprehensive survey of vision-language (VL) intelligence from the perspective of time. This survey is inspired by the remarkable progress in both computer vision and natural language processing, and recent trends shifting from single modality processing to multiple modality comprehension. We summarize the development in this field into three time periods, namely task-specific methods, vision-language pre-training (VLP) methods, and larger models empowered by large-scale weakly-labeled data. We first take some common VL tasks as examples to introduce the development of task-specific methods. Then we focus on VLP methods and comprehensively review key components of the model structures and training methods. After that, we show how recent work utilizes large-scale raw image-text data to learn language-aligned visual representations that generalize better on zero or few shot learning tasks. Finally, we discuss some potential future trends towards modality cooperation, unified representation, and knowledge incorporation. We believe that this review will be of help for researchers and practitioners of AI and ML, especially those interested in computer vision and natural language processing.

LLaVA-OneVision: Easy Visual Task Transfer

We present LLaVA-OneVision, a family of open large multimodal models (LMMs) developed by consolidating our insights into data, models, and visual representations in the LLaVA-NeXT blog series. Our experimental results demonstrate that LLaVA-OneVision is the first single model that can simultaneously push the performance boundaries of open LMMs in three important computer vision scenarios: single-image, multi-image, and video scenarios. Importantly, the design of LLaVA-OneVision allows strong transfer learning across different modalities/scenarios, yielding new emerging capabilities. In particular, strong video understanding and cross-scenario capabilities are demonstrated through task transfer from images to videos.

Bridging Component Learning with Degradation Modelling for Blind Image Super-Resolution

Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)-based image super-resolution (SR) has exhibited impressive success on known degraded low-resolution (LR) images. However, this type of approach is hard to hold its performance in practical scenarios when the degradation process is unknown. Despite existing blind SR methods proposed to solve this problem using blur kernel estimation, the perceptual quality and reconstruction accuracy are still unsatisfactory. In this paper, we analyze the degradation of a high-resolution (HR) image from image intrinsic components according to a degradation-based formulation model. We propose a components decomposition and co-optimization network (CDCN) for blind SR. Firstly, CDCN decomposes the input LR image into structure and detail components in feature space. Then, the mutual collaboration block (MCB) is presented to exploit the relationship between both two components. In this way, the detail component can provide informative features to enrich the structural context and the structure component can carry structural context for better detail revealing via a mutual complementary manner. After that, we present a degradation-driven learning strategy to jointly supervise the HR image detail and structure restoration process. Finally, a multi-scale fusion module followed by an upsampling layer is designed to fuse the structure and detail features and perform SR reconstruction. Empowered by such degradation-based components decomposition, collaboration, and mutual optimization, we can bridge the correlation between component learning and degradation modelling for blind SR, thereby producing SR results with more accurate textures. Extensive experiments on both synthetic SR datasets and real-world images show that the proposed method achieves the state-of-the-art performance compared to existing methods.

Learn To Remember: Transformer with Recurrent Memory for Document-Level Machine Translation

The Transformer architecture has led to significant gains in machine translation. However, most studies focus on only sentence-level translation without considering the context dependency within documents, leading to the inadequacy of document-level coherence. Some recent research tried to mitigate this issue by introducing an additional context encoder or translating with multiple sentences or even the entire document. Such methods may lose the information on the target side or have an increasing computational complexity as documents get longer. To address such problems, we introduce a recurrent memory unit to the vanilla Transformer, which supports the information exchange between the sentence and previous context. The memory unit is recurrently updated by acquiring information from sentences, and passing the aggregated knowledge back to subsequent sentence states. We follow a two-stage training strategy, in which the model is first trained at the sentence level and then finetuned for document-level translation. We conduct experiments on three popular datasets for document-level machine translation and our model has an average improvement of 0.91 s-BLEU over the sentence-level baseline. We also achieve state-of-the-art results on TED and News, outperforming the previous work by 0.36 s-BLEU and 1.49 d-BLEU on average.

MME-RealWorld: Could Your Multimodal LLM Challenge High-Resolution Real-World Scenarios that are Difficult for Humans?

Comprehensive evaluation of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) has recently garnered widespread attention in the research community. However, we observe that existing benchmarks present several common barriers that make it difficult to measure the significant challenges that models face in the real world, including: 1) small data scale leads to a large performance variance; 2) reliance on model-based annotations results in restricted data quality; 3) insufficient task difficulty, especially caused by the limited image resolution. To tackle these issues, we introduce MME-RealWorld. Specifically, we collect more than $300$K images from public datasets and the Internet, filtering $13,366$ high-quality images for annotation. This involves the efforts of professional $25$ annotators and $7$ experts in MLLMs, contributing to $29,429$ question-answer pairs that cover $43$ subtasks across $5$ real-world scenarios, extremely challenging even for humans. As far as we know, MME-RealWorld is the largest manually annotated benchmark to date, featuring the highest resolution and a targeted focus on real-world applications. We further conduct a thorough evaluation involving $28$ prominent MLLMs, such as GPT-4o, Gemini 1.5 Pro, and Claude 3.5 Sonnet. Our results show that even the most advanced models struggle with our benchmarks, where none of them reach $60\%$ accuracy. The challenges of perceiving high-resolution images and understanding complex real-world scenarios remain urgent issues to be addressed. Robotic Ultrasound Makes CBCT Alive

Intraoperative Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) provides a reliable 3D anatomical context essential for interventional planning. However, its static nature fails to provide continuous monitoring of soft-tissue deformations induced by respiration, probe pressure, and surgical manipulation, leading to navigation discrepancies. We propose a deformation-aware CBCT updating framework that leverages robotic ultrasound as a dynamic proxy to infer tissue motion and update static CBCT slices in real time. Starting from calibration-initialized alignment with linear correlation of linear combination (LC2)-based rigid refinement, our method establishes accurate multimodal correspondence. To capture intraoperative dynamics, we introduce the ultrasound correlation UNet (USCorUNet), a lightweight network trained with optical flow-guided supervision to learn deformation-aware correlation representations, enabling accurate, real-time dense deformation field estimation from ultrasound streams. The inferred deformation is spatially regularized and transferred to the CBCT reference to produce deformation-consistent visualizations without repeated radiation exposure. We validate the proposed approach through deformation estimation and ultrasound-guided CBCT updating experiments. Results demonstrate real-time end-to-end CBCT slice updating and physically plausible deformation estimation, enabling dynamic refinement of static CBCT guidance during robotic ultrasound-assisted interventions. Exploring Data Geometry for Continual Learning

Continual learning aims to efficiently learn from a non-stationary stream of data while avoiding forgetting the knowledge of old data. In many practical applications, data complies with non-Euclidean geometry. As such, the commonly used Euclidean space cannot gracefully capture non-Euclidean geometric structures of data, leading to inferior results. In this paper, we study continual learning from a novel perspective by exploring data geometry for the non-stationary stream of data. Our method dynamically expands the geometry of the underlying space to match growing geometric structures induced by new data, and prevents forgetting by keeping geometric structures of old data into account. In doing so, making use of the mixed curvature space, we propose an incremental search scheme, through which the growing geometric structures are encoded. Then, we introduce an angular-regularization loss and a neighbor-robustness loss to train the model, capable of penalizing the change of global geometric structures and local geometric structures. Experiments show that our method achieves better performance than baseline methods designed in Euclidean space.

A Strong and Reproducible Object Detector with Only Public Datasets

This work presents Focal-Stable-DINO, a strong and reproducible object detection model which achieves 64.6 AP on COCO val2017 and 64.8 AP on COCO test-dev using only 700M parameters without any test time augmentation. It explores the combination of the powerful FocalNet-Huge backbone with the effective Stable-DINO detector. Different from existing SOTA models that utilize an extensive number of parameters and complex training techniques on large-scale private data or merged data, our model is exclusively trained on the publicly available dataset Objects365, which ensures the reproducibility of our approach.

Towards Localized and Disentangled Knowledge Editing for Multimodal Large Language Models

Existing methods in Multimodal Knowledge Editing (MKE) have advanced the ability to correct outdated or inaccurate knowledge in Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs). However, they exhibit a critical limitation: while effectively modifying target factual pairs, they fail to generalize edits to logically related queries and often cause unintended alterations to unrelated but visually or semantically linked information. We identify and formalize two underlying failure modes causing this issue: Causal Misalignment, which confines edits to the specific sample, and Feature Entanglement, which causes unintended alterations to coupled but irrelevant information. To address these issues, we propose Localized and Disentangled Knowledge Editing (LDKE), a new framework that achieves precise and generalized editing by localizing fact-specific model layers and disentangling target-relevant inputs from irrelevant ones. Our approach introduces a Fast Localization module to identify and update critical layers efficiently, along with a Disentanglement Classifier that routes inputs appropriately to preserve unrelated knowledge. Extensive experiments across various benchmarks and MLLMs demonstrate that LDKE achieves superior performance in propagating edits to related contexts while maintaining high locality.

T-Rex: Counting by Visual Prompting

We introduce T-Rex, an interactive object counting model designed to first detect and then count any objects. We formulate object counting as an open-set object detection task with the integration of visual prompts. Users can specify the objects of interest by marking points or boxes on a reference image, and T-Rex then detects all objects with a similar pattern. Guided by the visual feedback from T-Rex, users can also interactively refine the counting results by prompting on missing or falsely-detected objects. T-Rex has achieved state-of-the-art performance on several class-agnostic counting benchmarks. To further exploit its potential, we established a new counting benchmark encompassing diverse scenarios and challenges. Both quantitative and qualitative results show that T-Rex possesses exceptional zero-shot counting capabilities. We also present various practical application scenarios for T-Rex, illustrating its potential in the realm of visual prompting.

Optimal starting point for time series forecasting

Recent advances on time series forecasting mainly focus on improving the forecasting models themselves. However, when the time series data suffer from potential structural breaks or concept drifts, the forecasting performance might be significantly reduced. In this paper, we introduce a novel approach called Optimal Starting Point Time Series Forecast (OSP-TSP) for optimal forecasting, which can be combined with existing time series forecasting models. By adjusting the sequence length via leveraging the XGBoost and LightGBM models, the proposed approach can determine the optimal starting point (OSP) of the time series and then enhance the prediction performances of the base forecasting models. To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, comprehensive empirical analysis have been conducted on the M4 dataset and other real world datasets. Empirical results indicate that predictions based on the OSP-TSP approach consistently outperform those using the complete time series dataset. Moreover, comparison results reveals that combining our approach with existing forecasting models can achieve better prediction accuracy, which also reflect the advantages of the proposed approach.

TAPTRv2: Attention-based Position Update Improves Tracking Any Point

In this paper, we present TAPTRv2, a Transformer-based approach built upon TAPTR for solving the Tracking Any Point (TAP) task. TAPTR borrows designs from DEtection TRansformer (DETR) and formulates each tracking point as a point query, making it possible to leverage well-studied operations in DETR-like algorithms. TAPTRv2 improves TAPTR by addressing a critical issue regarding its reliance on cost-volume,which contaminates the point queryś content feature and negatively impacts both visibility prediction and cost-volume computation. In TAPTRv2, we propose a novel attention-based position update (APU) operation and use key-aware deformable attention to realize. For each query, this operation uses key-aware attention weights to combine their corresponding deformable sampling positions to predict a new query position. This design is based on the observation that local attention is essentially the same as cost-volume, both of which are computed by dot-production between a query and its surrounding features. By introducing this new operation, TAPTRv2 not only removes the extra burden of cost-volume computation, but also leads to a substantial performance improvement. Layer Consistency Matters: Elegant Latent Transition Discrepancy for Generalizable Synthetic Image Detection

Recent rapid advancement of generative models has significantly improved the fidelity and accessibility of AI-generated synthetic images. While enabling various innovative applications, the unprecedented realism of these synthetics makes them increasingly indistinguishable from authentic photographs, posing serious security risks, such as media credibility and content manipulation. Although extensive efforts have been dedicated to detecting synthetic images, most existing approaches suffer from poor generalization to unseen data due to their reliance on model-specific artifacts or low-level statistical cues. In this work, we identify a previously unexplored distinction that real images maintain consistent semantic attention and structural coherence in their latent representations, exhibiting more stable feature transitions across network layers, whereas synthetic ones present discernible distinct patterns. Therefore, we propose a novel approach termed latent transition discrepancy (LTD), which captures the inter-layer consistency differences of real and synthetic images. LTD adaptively identifies the most discriminative layers and assesses the transition discrepancies across layers. Benefiting from the proposed inter-layer discriminative modeling, our approach exceeds the base model by 14.35\% in mean Acc across three datasets containing diverse GANs and DMs. Extensive experiments demonstrate that LTD outperforms recent state-of-the-art methods, achieving superior detection accuracy, generalizability, and robustness. A Unified Mutual Supervision Framework for Referring Expression Segmentation and Generation

Reference Expression Segmentation (RES) and Reference Expression Generation (REG) are mutually inverse tasks that can be naturally jointly trained. Though recent work has explored such joint training, the mechanism of how RES and REG can benefit each other is still unclear. In this paper, we propose a unified mutual supervision framework that enables two tasks to improve each other. Our mutual supervision contains two directions. On the one hand, Disambiguation Supervision leverages the expression unambiguity measurement provided by RES to enhance the language generation of REG. On the other hand, Generation Supervision uses expressions automatically generated by REG to scale up the training of RES. Such unified mutual supervision effectively improves two tasks by solving their bottleneck problems. Extensive experiments show that our approach significantly outperforms all existing methods on REG and RES tasks under the same setting, and detailed ablation studies demonstrate the effectiveness of all components in our framework.

Multi-objective Optimization of Clustering-based Scheduling for Multi-workflow On Clouds Considering Fairness

Distributed computing, such as cloud computing, provides promising platforms to execute multiple workflows. Workflow scheduling plays an important role in multi-workflow execution with multi-objective requirements. Although there exist many multi-objective scheduling algorithms, they focus mainly on optimizing makespan and cost for a single workflow. There is a limited research on multi-objective optimization for multi-workflow scheduling. Considering multi-workflow scheduling, there is an additional key objective to maintain the fairness of workflows using the resources. To address such issues, this paper first defines a new multi-objective optimization model based on makespan, cost, and fairness, and then proposes a global clustering-based multi-workflow scheduling strategy for resource allocation. Experimental results show that the proposed approach performs better than the compared algorithms without significant compromise of the overall makespan and cost as well as individual fairness, which can guide the simulation workflow scheduling on clouds.

Thinking in Granularity: Dynamic Quantization for Image Super-Resolution by Intriguing Multi-Granularity Clues

Dynamic quantization has attracted rising attention in image super-resolution (SR) as it expands the potential of heavy SR models onto mobile devices while preserving competitive performance. Existing methods explore layer-to-bit configuration upon varying local regions, adaptively allocating the bit to each layer and patch. Despite the benefits, they still fall short in the trade-off of SR accuracy and quantization efficiency. Apart from this, adapting the quantization level for each layer individually can disturb the original inter-layer relationships, thus diminishing the representation capability of quantized models. In this work, we propose Granular-DQ, which capitalizes on the intrinsic characteristics of images while dispensing with the previous consideration for layer sensitivity in quantization. Granular-DQ conducts a multi-granularity analysis of local patches with further exploration of their information densities, achieving a distinctive patch-wise and layer-invariant dynamic quantization paradigm. Specifically, Granular-DQ initiates by developing a granularity-bit controller (GBC) to apprehend the coarse-to-fine granular representations of different patches, matching their proportional contribution to the entire image to determine the proper bit-width allocation. On this premise, we investigate the relation between bit-width and information density, devising an entropy-to-bit (E2B) mechanism that enables further fine-grained dynamic bit adaption of high-bit patches. Extensive experiments validate the superiority and generalization ability of Granular-DQ over recent state-of-the-art methods on various SR models. Infinite forecast combinations based on Dirichlet process

Forecast combination integrates information from various sources by consolidating multiple forecast results from the target time series. Instead of the need to select a single optimal forecasting model, this paper introduces a deep learning ensemble forecasting model based on the Dirichlet process. Initially, the learning rate is sampled with three basis distributions as hyperparameters to convert the infinite mixture into a finite one. All checkpoints are collected to establish a deep learning sub-model pool, and weight adjustment and diversity strategies are developed during the combination process. The main advantage of this method is its ability to generate the required base learners through a single training process, utilizing the decaying strategy to tackle the challenge posed by the stochastic nature of gradient descent in determining the optimal learning rate. To ensure the method's generalizability and competitiveness, this paper conducts an empirical analysis using the weekly dataset from the M4 competition and explores sensitivity to the number of models to be combined. The results demonstrate that the ensemble model proposed offers substantial improvements in prediction accuracy and stability compared to a single benchmark model.

Probabilistic Forecast Reconciliation with Kullback-Leibler Divergence Regularization

As the popularity of hierarchical point forecast reconciliation methods increases, there is a growing interest in probabilistic forecast reconciliation. Many studies have utilized machine learning or deep learning techniques to implement probabilistic forecasting reconciliation and have made notable progress. However, these methods treat the reconciliation step as a fixed and hard post-processing step, leading to a trade-off between accuracy and coherency. In this paper, we propose a new approach for probabilistic forecast reconciliation. Unlike existing approaches, our proposed approach fuses the prediction step and reconciliation step into a deep learning framework, making the reconciliation step more flexible and soft by introducing the Kullback-Leibler divergence regularization term into the loss function. The approach is evaluated using three hierarchical time series datasets, which shows the advantages of our approach over other probabilistic forecast reconciliation methods.

Emerging Properties in Unified Multimodal Pretraining

Unifying multimodal understanding and generation has shown impressive capabilities in cutting-edge proprietary systems. In this work, we introduce BAGEL, an open-source foundational model that natively supports multimodal understanding and generation. BAGEL is a unified, decoder-only model pretrained on trillions of tokens curated from large-scale interleaved text, image, video, and web data. When scaled with such diverse multimodal interleaved data, BAGEL exhibits emerging capabilities in complex multimodal reasoning. As a result, it significantly outperforms open-source unified models in both multimodal generation and understanding across standard benchmarks, while exhibiting advanced multimodal reasoning abilities such as free-form image manipulation, future frame prediction, 3D manipulation, and world navigation. In the hope of facilitating further opportunities for multimodal research, we share the key findings, pretraining details, data creation protocal, and release our code and checkpoints to the community. Introducing Depth into Transformer-based 3D Object Detection

In this paper, we present DAT, a Depth-Aware Transformer framework designed for camera-based 3D detection. Our model is based on observing two major issues in existing methods: large depth translation errors and duplicate predictions along depth axes. To mitigate these issues, we propose two key solutions within DAT. To address the first issue, we introduce a Depth-Aware Spatial Cross-Attention (DA-SCA) module that incorporates depth information into spatial cross-attention when lifting image features to 3D space. To address the second issue, we introduce an auxiliary learning task called Depth-aware Negative Suppression loss. First, based on their reference points, we organize features as a Bird's-Eye-View (BEV) feature map. Then, we sample positive and negative features along each object ray that connects an object and a camera and train the model to distinguish between them. The proposed DA-SCA and DNS methods effectively alleviate these two problems. We show that DAT is a versatile method that enhances the performance of all three popular models, BEVFormer, DETR3D, and PETR. Our evaluation on BEVFormer demonstrates that DAT achieves a significant improvement of +2.8 NDS on nuScenes val under the same settings. Moreover, when using pre-trained VoVNet-99 as the backbone, DAT achieves strong results of 60.0 NDS and 51.5 mAP on nuScenes test. Our code will be soon.
