Pyramid Diffusion for Fine 3D Large Scene GenerationYuheng Liu, Xinke Li, Xueting Li et al.
Diffusion models have shown remarkable results in generating 2D images and small-scale 3D objects. However, their application to the synthesis of large-scale 3D scenes has been rarely explored. This is mainly due to the inherent complexity and bulky size of 3D scenery data, particularly outdoor scenes, and the limited availability of comprehensive real-world datasets, which makes training a stable scene diffusion model challenging. In this work, we explore how to effectively generate large-scale 3D scenes using the coarse-to-fine paradigm. We introduce a framework, the Pyramid Discrete Diffusion model (PDD), which employs scale-varied diffusion models to progressively generate high-quality outdoor scenes. Experimental results of PDD demonstrate our successful exploration in generating 3D scenes both unconditionally and conditionally. We further showcase the data compatibility of the PDD model, due to its multi-scale architecture: a PDD model trained on one dataset can be easily fine-tuned with another dataset. Risk-optimized Outlier Removal for Robust 3D Point Cloud ClassificationXinke Li, Junchi Lu, Henghui Ding et al.
With the growth of 3D sensing technology, deep learning system for 3D point clouds has become increasingly important, especially in applications like autonomous vehicles where safety is a primary concern. However, there are also growing concerns about the reliability of these systems when they encounter noisy point clouds, whether occurring naturally or introduced with malicious intent. This paper highlights the challenges of point cloud classification posed by various forms of noise, from simple background noise to malicious backdoor attacks that can intentionally skew model predictions. While there's an urgent need for optimized point cloud denoising, current point outlier removal approaches, an essential step for denoising, rely heavily on handcrafted strategies and are not adapted for higher-level tasks, such as classification. To address this issue, we introduce an innovative point outlier cleansing method that harnesses the power of downstream classification models. By employing gradient-based attribution analysis, we define a novel concept: point risk. Drawing inspiration from tail risk minimization in finance, we recast the outlier removal process as an optimization problem, named PointCVaR. Extensive experiments show that our proposed technique not only robustly filters diverse point cloud outliers but also consistently and significantly enhances existing robust methods for point cloud classification.

Primitive3D: 3D Object Dataset Synthesis from Randomly Assembled PrimitivesXinke Li, Henghui Ding, Zekun Tong et al.
Numerous advancements in deep learning can be attributed to the access to large-scale and well-annotated datasets. However, such a dataset is prohibitively expensive in 3D computer vision due to the substantial collection cost. To alleviate this issue, we propose a cost-effective method for automatically generating a large amount of 3D objects with annotations. In particular, we synthesize objects simply by assembling multiple random primitives. These objects are thus auto-annotated with part labels originating from primitives. This allows us to perform multi-task learning by combining the supervised segmentation with unsupervised reconstruction. Considering the large overhead of learning on the generated dataset, we further propose a dataset distillation strategy to remove redundant samples regarding a target dataset. We conduct extensive experiments for the downstream tasks of 3D object classification. The results indicate that our dataset, together with multi-task pretraining on its annotations, achieves the best performance compared to other commonly used datasets. Further study suggests that our strategy can improve the model performance by pretraining and fine-tuning scheme, especially for the dataset with a small scale. In addition, pretraining with the proposed dataset distillation method can save 86\% of the pretraining time with negligible performance degradation. We expect that our attempt provides a new data-centric perspective for training 3D deep models.

Learning Against Distributional Uncertainty: On the Trade-off Between Robustness and SpecificityShixiong Wang, Haowei Wang, Xinke Li et al.
Trustworthy machine learning aims at combating distributional uncertainties in training data distributions compared to population distributions. Typical treatment frameworks include the Bayesian approach, (min-max) distributionally robust optimization (DRO), and regularization. However, three issues have to be raised: 1) the prior distribution in the Bayesian method and the regularizer in the regularization method are difficult to specify; 2) the DRO method tends to be overly conservative; 3) all the three methods are biased estimators of the true optimal cost. This paper studies a new framework that unifies the three approaches and addresses the three challenges above. The asymptotic properties (e.g., consistencies and asymptotic normalities), non-asymptotic properties (e.g., generalization bounds and unbiasedness), and solution methods of the proposed model are studied. The new model reveals the trade-off between the robustness to the unseen data and the specificity to the training data. Experiments on various real-world tasks validate the superiority of the proposed learning framework.

One World, Dual Timeline: Decoupled Spatio-Temporal Gaussian Scene Graph for 4D Cooperative Driving ReconstructionYulong Chen, Xiaoyun Dong, Haoyu Zhang et al.
Reconstructing dynamic scenes from Vehicle-to-Infrastructure Cooperative Autonomous Driving (VICAD) data is fundamentally complicated by temporal asynchrony: vehicle and infrastructure cameras operate on independent clocks, capturing the same dynamic agent such as cars and pedestrians at different physical times. Existing Gaussian Scene Graph methods implicitly assume synchronized observations and assign a single pose per agent per frame, which is an assumption that breaks in cooperative settings, where the resulting gradient conflicts cause severe ghosting on dynamic agents. We identify this as a representation-level failure, not an optimization artifact: we prove that any single-timeline formulation incurs an irreducible photometric loss scaling quadratically with agent velocity and cross-source time offset. To resolve this, we propose Dust (DecoUpled Spatio-Temporal) Gaussian Scene Graph for 4D Cooperative Driving Reconstruction. DUST Gaussian Scene Graph shares a canonical Gaussian set per agent for appearance consistency, while maintaining decouple pose trajectories aligned to each source's true capture timestamps. We prove that this decoupling enables the pose-gradient kernel block-diagonal, eliminating cross-source interference entirely. To make Dust practical, we further introduce a static anchor-based pose correction pipeline that corrects spatio misalignment between vehicle and infrastructure annotations, and a pose-regularized joint optimization scheme that prevents trajectory jitter and drift during early training. On 26 sequences from V2X-Seq, DUST achieves state-of-the-art performance, improving dynamic-area PSNR by 3.2 dB over the strongest baseline and reducing Fréchet Video Distance by 37.7%, with keeping robustness under larger temporal asynchrony. Data-Chain Backdoor: Do You Trust Diffusion Models as Generative Data Supplier?Junchi Lu, Xinke Li, Yuheng Liu et al.
The increasing use of generative models such as diffusion models for synthetic data augmentation has greatly reduced the cost of data collection and labeling in downstream perception tasks. However, this new data source paradigm may introduce important security concerns. Publicly available generative models are often reused without verification, raising a fundamental question of their safety and trustworthiness. This work investigates backdoor propagation in such emerging generative data supply chain, namely, Data-Chain Backdoor (DCB). Specifically, we find that open-source diffusion models can become hidden carriers of backdoors. Their strong distribution-fitting ability causes them to memorize and reproduce backdoor triggers in generation, which are subsequently inherited by downstream models, resulting in severe security risks. This threat is particularly concerning under clean-label attack scenarios, as it remains effective while having negligible impact on the utility of the synthetic data. We study two attacker choices to obtain a backdoor-carried generator, training from scratch and fine-tuning. While naive fine-tuning leads to weak inheritance of the backdoor, we find that novel designs in the loss objectives and trigger processing can substantially improve the generator's ability to preserve trigger patterns, making fine-tuning a low-cost attack path. We evaluate the effectiveness of DCB under the standard augmentation protocol and further assess data-scarce settings. Across multiple trigger types, we observe that the trigger pattern can be consistently retained in the synthetic data with attack efficacy comparable to the conventional backdoor attack.

OmniRoam: World Wandering via Long-Horizon Panoramic Video GenerationYuheng Liu, Xin Lin, Xinke Li et al.
Modeling scenes using video generation models has garnered growing research interest in recent years. However, most existing approaches rely on perspective video models that synthesize only limited observations of a scene, leading to issues of completeness and global consistency. We propose OmniRoam, a controllable panoramic video generation framework that exploits the rich per-frame scene coverage and inherent long-term spatial and temporal consistency of panoramic representation, enabling long-horizon scene wandering. Our framework begins with a preview stage, where a trajectory-controlled video generation model creates a quick overview of the scene from a given input image or video. Then, in the refine stage, this video is temporally extended and spatially upsampled to produce long-range, high-resolution videos, thus enabling high-fidelity world wandering. To train our model, we introduce two panoramic video datasets that incorporate both synthetic and real-world captured videos. Experiments show that our framework consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods in terms of visual quality, controllability, and long-term scene consistency, both qualitatively and quantitatively. Enhancing Sampling Protocol for Point Cloud Classification Against CorruptionsChongshou Li, Pin Tang, Xinke Li et al.
Established sampling protocols for 3D point cloud learning, such as Farthest Point Sampling (FPS) and Fixed Sample Size (FSS), have long been relied upon. However, real-world data often suffer from corruptions, such as sensor noise, which violates the benign data assumption in current protocols. As a result, these protocols are highly vulnerable to noise, posing significant safety risks in critical applications like autonomous driving. To address these issues, we propose an enhanced point cloud sampling protocol, PointSP, designed to improve robustness against point cloud corruptions. PointSP incorporates key point reweighting to mitigate outlier sensitivity and ensure the selection of representative points. It also introduces a local-global balanced downsampling strategy, which allows for scalable and adaptive sampling while maintaining geometric consistency. Additionally, a lightweight tangent plane interpolation method is used to preserve local geometry while enhancing the density of the point cloud. Unlike learning-based approaches that require additional model training, PointSP is architecture-agnostic, requiring no extra learning or modification to the network. This enables seamless integration into existing pipelines. Extensive experiments on synthetic and real-world corrupted datasets show that PointSP significantly improves the robustness and accuracy of point cloud classification, outperforming state-of-the-art methods across multiple benchmarks.

Speech Separation with Pretrained Frontend to Minimize Domain MismatchWupeng Wang, Zexu Pan, Xinke Li et al.
Speech separation seeks to separate individual speech signals from a speech mixture. Typically, most separation models are trained on synthetic data due to the unavailability of target reference in real-world cocktail party scenarios. As a result, there exists a domain gap between real and synthetic data when deploying speech separation models in real-world applications. In this paper, we propose a self-supervised domain-invariant pretrained (DIP) frontend that is exposed to mixture data without the need for target reference speech. The DIP frontend utilizes a Siamese network with two innovative pretext tasks, mixture predictive coding (MPC) and mixture invariant coding (MIC), to capture shared contextual cues between real and synthetic unlabeled mixtures. Subsequently, we freeze the DIP frontend as a feature extractor when training the downstream speech separation models on synthetic data. By pretraining the DIP frontend with the contextual cues, we expect that the speech separation skills learned from synthetic data can be effectively transferred to real data. To benefit from the DIP frontend, we introduce a novel separation pipeline to align the feature resolution of the separation models. We evaluate the speech separation quality on standard benchmarks and real-world datasets. The results confirm the superiority of our DIP frontend over existing speech separation models. This study underscores the potential of large-scale pretraining to enhance the quality and intelligibility of speech separation in real-world applications.

Controllable 3D Outdoor Scene Generation via Scene GraphsYuheng Liu, Xinke Li, Yuning Zhang et al.
Three-dimensional scene generation is crucial in computer vision, with applications spanning autonomous driving, gaming and the metaverse. Current methods either lack user control or rely on imprecise, non-intuitive conditions. In this work, we propose a method that uses, scene graphs, an accessible, user friendly control format to generate outdoor 3D scenes. We develop an interactive system that transforms a sparse scene graph into a dense BEV (Bird's Eye View) Embedding Map, which guides a conditional diffusion model to generate 3D scenes that match the scene graph description. During inference, users can easily create or modify scene graphs to generate large-scale outdoor scenes. We create a large-scale dataset with paired scene graphs and 3D semantic scenes to train the BEV embedding and diffusion models. Experimental results show that our approach consistently produces high-quality 3D urban scenes closely aligned with the input scene graphs. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first approach to generate 3D outdoor scenes conditioned on scene graphs.

Rethinking Gradient-based Adversarial Attacks on Point Cloud ClassificationJun Chen, Xinke Li, Mingyue Xu et al.
Gradient-based adversarial attacks have become a dominant approach for evaluating the robustness of point cloud classification models. However, existing methods often rely on uniform update rules that fail to consider the heterogeneous nature of point clouds, resulting in excessive and perceptible perturbations. In this paper, we rethink the design of gradient-based attacks by analyzing the limitations of conventional gradient update mechanisms and propose two new strategies to improve both attack effectiveness and imperceptibility. First, we introduce WAAttack, a novel framework that incorporates weighted gradients and an adaptive step-size strategy to account for the non-uniform contribution of points during optimization. This approach enables more targeted and subtle perturbations by dynamically adjusting updates according to the local structure and sensitivity of each point. Second, we propose SubAttack, a complementary strategy that decomposes the point cloud into subsets and focuses perturbation efforts on structurally critical regions. Together, these methods represent a principled rethinking of gradient-based adversarial attacks for 3D point cloud classification. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art baselines in generating highly imperceptible adversarial examples. Code will be released upon paper acceptance.

Learning Unified Representation of 3D Gaussian SplattingYuelin Xin, Yuheng Liu, Xiaohui Xie et al.
A well-designed vectorized representation is crucial for the learning systems natively based on 3D Gaussian Splatting. While 3DGS enables efficient and explicit 3D reconstruction, its parameter-based representation remains hard to learn as features, especially for neural-network-based models. Directly feeding raw Gaussian parameters into learning frameworks fails to address the non-unique and heterogeneous nature of the Gaussian parameterization, yielding highly data-dependent models. This challenge motivates us to explore a more principled approach to represent 3D Gaussian Splatting in neural networks that preserves the underlying color and geometric structure while enforcing unique mapping and channel homogeneity. In this paper, we propose an embedding representation of 3DGS based on continuous submanifold fields that encapsulate the intrinsic information of Gaussian primitives, thereby benefiting the learning of 3DGS.

Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) are increasingly used in critical domains, where reliable explanations are vital for supporting human decision-making. However, the common practice of graph symmetrization discards directional information, leading to significant information loss and misleading explanations. Our analysis demonstrates how this practice compromises explanation fidelity. Through theoretical and empirical studies, we show that preserving directional semantics significantly improves explanation quality, ensuring more faithful insights for human decision-makers. These findings highlight the need for direction-aware GNN explainability in security-critical applications.

Causal Self-supervised Pretrained Frontend with Predictive Code for Speech SeparationWupeng Wang, Zexu Pan, Xinke Li et al.
Speech separation (SS) seeks to disentangle a multi-talker speech mixture into single-talker speech streams. Although SS can be generally achieved using offline methods, such a processing paradigm is not suitable for real-time streaming applications. Causal separation models, which rely only on past and present information, offer a promising solution for real-time streaming. However, these models typically suffer from notable performance degradation due to the absence of future context. In this paper, we introduce a novel frontend that is designed to mitigate the mismatch between training and run-time inference by implicitly incorporating future information into causal models through predictive patterns. The pretrained frontend employs a transformer decoder network with a causal convolutional encoder as the backbone and is pretrained in a self-supervised manner with two innovative pretext tasks: autoregressive hybrid prediction and contextual knowledge distillation. These tasks enable the model to capture predictive patterns directly from mixtures in a self-supervised manner. The pretrained frontend subsequently serves as a feature extractor to generate high-quality predictive patterns. Comprehensive evaluations on synthetic and real-world datasets validated the effectiveness of the proposed pretrained frontend.

PointBA: Towards Backdoor Attacks in 3D Point CloudXinke Li, Zhirui Chen, Yue Zhao et al.
3D deep learning has been increasingly more popular for a variety of tasks including many safety-critical applications. However, recently several works raise the security issues of 3D deep models. Although most of them consider adversarial attacks, we identify that backdoor attack is indeed a more serious threat to 3D deep learning systems but remains unexplored. We present the backdoor attacks in 3D point cloud with a unified framework that exploits the unique properties of 3D data and networks. In particular, we design two attack approaches on point cloud: the poison-label backdoor attack (PointPBA) and the clean-label backdoor attack (PointCBA). The first one is straightforward and effective in practice, while the latter is more sophisticated assuming there are certain data inspections. The attack algorithms are mainly motivated and developed by 1) the recent discovery of 3D adversarial samples suggesting the vulnerability of deep models under spatial transformation; 2) the proposed feature disentanglement technique that manipulates the feature of the data through optimization methods and its potential to embed a new task. Extensive experiments show the efficacy of the PointPBA with over 95% success rate across various 3D datasets and models, and the more stealthy PointCBA with around 50% success rate. Our proposed backdoor attack in 3D point cloud is expected to perform as a baseline for improving the robustness of 3D deep models.

Machine-learning-based age estimation has received lots of attention. Traditional age estimation mechanism focuses estimation age error, but ignores that there is a deviation between the estimated age and real age due to disease. Pathological age estimation mechanism the author proposed before introduces age deviation to solve the above problem and improves classification capability of the estimated age significantly. However,it does not consider the age estimation error of the normal control (NC) group and results in a larger error between the estimated age and real age of NC group. Therefore, an integrated age estimation mechanism based on Decision-Level fusion of error and deviation orientation model is proposed to solve the problem.Firstly, the traditional age estimation and pathological age estimation mechanisms are weighted together.Secondly, their optimal weights are obtained by minimizing mean absolute error (MAE) between the estimated age and real age of normal people. In the experimental section, several representative age-related datasets are used for verification of the proposed method. The results show that the proposed age estimation mechanism achieves a good tradeoff effect of age estimation. It not only improves the classification ability of the estimated age, but also reduces the age estimation error of the NC group. In general, the proposed age estimation mechanism is effective. Additionally, the mechanism is a framework mechanism that can be used to construct different specific age estimation algorithms, contributing to relevant research.

Campus3D: A Photogrammetry Point Cloud Benchmark for Hierarchical Understanding of Outdoor SceneXinke Li, Chongshou Li, Zekun Tong et al.
Learning on 3D scene-based point cloud has received extensive attention as its promising application in many fields, and well-annotated and multisource datasets can catalyze the development of those data-driven approaches. To facilitate the research of this area, we present a richly-annotated 3D point cloud dataset for multiple outdoor scene understanding tasks and also an effective learning framework for its hierarchical segmentation task. The dataset was generated via the photogrammetric processing on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) images of the National University of Singapore (NUS) campus, and has been point-wisely annotated with both hierarchical and instance-based labels. Based on it, we formulate a hierarchical learning problem for 3D point cloud segmentation and propose a measurement evaluating consistency across various hierarchies. To solve this problem, a two-stage method including multi-task (MT) learning and hierarchical ensemble (HE) with consistency consideration is proposed. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed method and potential advantages of our hierarchical annotations. In addition, we benchmark results of semantic and instance segmentation, which is accessible online at https://3d.dataset.site with the dataset and all source codes.
