Trident Segmentation CNN: A Spatiotemporal Transformation CNN for Punctate White Matter Lesions Segmentation in Preterm Neonates

Yalong Liu, Jie Li, Miaomiao Wang et al.

Accurate segmentation of punctate white matter lesions (PWML) in preterm neonates by an automatic algorithm can better assist doctors in diagnosis. However, the existing algorithms have many limitations, such as low detection accuracy and large resource consumption. In this paper, a novel spatiotemporal transformation deep learning method called Trident Segmentation CNN (TS-CNN) is proposed to segment PWML in MR images. It can convert spatial information into temporal information, which reduces the consumption of computing resources. Furthermore, a new improved training loss called Self-balancing Focal Loss (SBFL) is proposed to balance the loss during the training process. The whole model is evaluated on a dataset of 704 MR images. Overall the method achieves median DSC, sensitivity, specificity, and Hausdorff distance of 0.6355, 0.7126, 0.9998, and 24.5836 mm which outperforms the state-of-the-art algorithm. FADPNet: Frequency-Aware Dual-Path Network for Face Super-Resolution

Siyu Xu, Wenjie Li, Guangwei Gao et al.

Face super-resolution (FSR) under limited computational costs remains an open problem. Existing approaches typically treat all facial pixels equally, resulting in suboptimal allocation of computational resources and degraded FSR performance. CNN is relatively sensitive to high-frequency facial features, such as component contours and facial outlines. Meanwhile, Mamba excels at capturing low-frequency features like facial color and fine-grained texture, and does so with lower complexity than Transformers. Motivated by these observations, we propose FADPNet, a Frequency-Aware Dual-Path Network that decomposes facial features into low- and high-frequency components and processes them via dedicated branches. For low-frequency regions, we introduce a Mamba-based Low-Frequency Enhancement Block (LFEB), which combines state-space attention with squeeze-and-excitation operations to extract low-frequency global interactions and emphasize informative channels. For high-frequency regions, we design a CNN-based Deep Position-Aware Attention (DPA) module to enhance spatially-dependent structural details, complemented by a lightweight High-Frequency Refinement (HFR) module that further refines frequency-specific representations. Through the above designs, our method achieves an excellent balance between FSR quality and model efficiency, outperforming existing approaches.

Patch Triplet Similarity Purification for Guided Real-World Low-Dose CT Image Denoising

Junhao Long, Fengwei Yang, Juncheng Yan et al.

Image denoising of low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) is an important problem for clinical diagnosis with reduced radiation exposure. Previous methods are mostly trained with pairs of synthetic or misaligned LDCT and normal-dose CT (NDCT) images. However, trained with synthetic noise or misaligned LDCT/NDCT image pairs, the denoising networks would suffer from blurry structure or motion artifacts. Since non-contrast CT (NCCT) images share the content characteristics to the corresponding NDCT images in a three-phase scan, they can potentially provide useful information for real-world LDCT image denoising. To exploit this aspect, in this paper, we propose to incorporate clean NCCT images as useful guidance for the learning of real-world LDCT image denoising networks. To alleviate the issue of spatial misalignment in training data, we design a new Patch Triplet Similarity Purification (PTSP) strategy to select highly similar patch (instead of image) triplets of LDCT, NDCT, and NCCT images for network training. Furthermore, we modify two image denoising transformers of SwinIR and HAT to accommodate the NCCT image guidance, by replacing vanilla self-attention with cross-attention. On our collected clinical dataset, the modified transformers trained with the data selected by our PTSP strategy show better performance than 15 comparison methods on real-world LDCT image denoising. Ablation studies validate the effectiveness of our NCCT image guidance and PTSP strategy. We will publicly release our data and code.
