Pay Self-Attention to Audio-Visual Navigation

Yinfeng Yu, Lele Cao, Fuchun Sun et al. · tsinghua

Audio-visual embodied navigation, as a hot research topic, aims training a robot to reach an audio target using egocentric visual (from the sensors mounted on the robot) and audio (emitted from the target) input. The audio-visual information fusion strategy is naturally important to the navigation performance, but the state-of-the-art methods still simply concatenate the visual and audio features, potentially ignoring the direct impact of context. Moreover, the existing approaches requires either phase-wise training or additional aid (e.g. topology graph and sound semantics). Up till this date, the work that deals with the more challenging setup with moving target(s) is still rare. As a result, we propose an end-to-end framework FSAAVN (feature self-attention audio-visual navigation) to learn chasing after a moving audio target using a context-aware audio-visual fusion strategy implemented as a self-attention module. Our thorough experiments validate the superior performance (both quantitatively and qualitatively) of FSAAVN in comparison with the state-of-the-arts, and also provide unique insights about the choice of visual modalities, visual/audio encoder backbones and fusion patterns.

Lightweight Spatial-Channel Adaptive Coordination of Multilevel Refinement Enhancement Network for Image Reconstruction

Yuxi Cai, Huicheng Lai, Zhenghong Jia

Benefiting from the vigorous development of deep learning, many CNN-based image super-resolution methods have emerged and achieved better results than traditional algorithms. However, it is difficult for most algorithms to adaptively adjust the spatial region and channel features at the same time, let alone the information exchange between them. In addition, the exchange of information between attention modules is even less visible to researchers. To solve these problems, we put forward a lightweight spatial-channel adaptive coordination of multilevel refinement enhancement networks(MREN). Specifically, we construct a space-channel adaptive coordination block, which enables the network to learn the spatial region and channel feature information of interest under different receptive fields. In addition, the information of the corresponding feature processing level between the spatial part and the channel part is exchanged with the help of jump connection to achieve the coordination between the two. We establish a communication bridge between attention modules through a simple linear combination operation, so as to more accurately and continuously guide the network to pay attention to the information of interest. Extensive experiments on several standard test sets have shown that our MREN achieves superior performance over other advanced algorithms with a very small number of parameters and very low computational complexity.

BSS-CFFMA: Cross-Domain Feature Fusion and Multi-Attention Speech Enhancement Network based on Self-Supervised Embedding

Alimjan Mattursun, Liejun Wang, Yinfeng Yu

Speech self-supervised learning (SSL) represents has achieved state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance in multiple downstream tasks. However, its application in speech enhancement (SE) tasks remains immature, offering opportunities for improvement. In this study, we introduce a novel cross-domain feature fusion and multi-attention speech enhancement network, termed BSS-CFFMA, which leverages self-supervised embeddings. BSS-CFFMA comprises a multi-scale cross-domain feature fusion (MSCFF) block and a residual hybrid multi-attention (RHMA) block. The MSCFF block effectively integrates cross-domain features, facilitating the extraction of rich acoustic information. The RHMA block, serving as the primary enhancement module, utilizes three distinct attention modules to capture diverse attention representations and estimate high-quality speech signals. We evaluate the performance of the BSS-CFFMA model through comparative and ablation studies on the VoiceBank-DEMAND dataset, achieving SOTA results. Furthermore, we select three types of data from the WHAMR! dataset, a collection specifically designed for speech enhancement tasks, to assess the capabilities of BSS-CFFMA in tasks such as denoising only, dereverberation only, and simultaneous denoising and dereverberation. This study marks the first attempt to explore the effectiveness of self-supervised embedding-based speech enhancement methods in complex tasks encompassing dereverberation and simultaneous denoising and dereverberation. The demo implementation of BSS-CFFMA is available online\footnote[2]{https://github.com/AlimMat/BSS-CFFMA. \label{s1}}.

One Small and One Large for Document-level Event Argument Extraction

Jiaren Peng, Hongda Sun, Wenzhong Yang et al.

Document-level Event Argument Extraction (EAE) faces two challenges due to increased input length: 1) difficulty in distinguishing semantic boundaries between events, and 2) interference from redundant information. To address these issues, we propose two methods. The first method introduces the Co and Structure Event Argument Extraction model (CsEAE) based on Small Language Models (SLMs). CsEAE includes a co-occurrences-aware module, which integrates information about all events present in the current input through context labeling and co-occurrences event prompts extraction. Additionally, CsEAE includes a structure-aware module that reduces interference from redundant information by establishing structural relationships between the sentence containing the trigger and other sentences in the document. The second method introduces new prompts to transform the extraction task into a generative task suitable for Large Language Models (LLMs), addressing gaps in EAE performance using LLMs under Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) conditions. We also fine-tuned multiple datasets to develop an LLM that performs better across most datasets. Finally, we applied insights from CsEAE to LLMs, achieving further performance improvements. This suggests that reliable insights validated on SLMs are also applicable to LLMs. We tested our models on the Rams, WikiEvents, and MLEE datasets. The CsEAE model achieved improvements of 2.1\%, 2.3\%, and 3.2\% in the Arg-C F1 metric compared to the baseline, PAIE~\cite{PAIE}. For LLMs, we demonstrated that their performance on document-level datasets is comparable to that of SLMs~\footnote{All code is available at https://github.com/simon-p-j-r/CsEAE}.

Similarity Memory Prior is All You Need for Medical Image Segmentation

Hao Tang, Zhiqing Guo, Liejun Wang et al.

In recent years, it has been found that "grandmother cells" in the primary visual cortex (V1) of macaques can directly recognize visual input with complex shapes. This inspires us to examine the value of these cells in promoting the research of medical image segmentation. In this paper, we design a Similarity Memory Prior Network (Sim-MPNet) for medical image segmentation. Specifically, we propose a Dynamic Memory Weights-Loss Attention (DMW-LA), which matches and remembers the category features of specific lesions or organs in medical images through the similarity memory prior in the prototype memory bank, thus helping the network to learn subtle texture changes between categories. DMW-LA also dynamically updates the similarity memory prior in reverse through Weight-Loss Dynamic (W-LD) update strategy, effectively assisting the network directly extract category features. In addition, we propose the Double-Similarity Global Internal Enhancement Module (DS-GIM) to deeply explore the internal differences in the feature distribution of input data through cosine similarity and euclidean distance. Extensive experiments on four public datasets show that Sim-MPNet has better segmentation performance than other state-of-the-art methods. Our code is available on https://github.com/vpsg-research/Sim-MPNet.

Argument-Centric Causal Intervention Method for Mitigating Bias in Cross-Document Event Coreference Resolution

Long Yao, Wenzhong Yang, Yabo Yin et al.

Cross-document Event Coreference Resolution (CD-ECR) is a fundamental task in natural language processing (NLP) that seeks to determine whether event mentions across multiple documents refer to the same real-world occurrence. However, current CD-ECR approaches predominantly rely on trigger features within input mention pairs, which induce spurious correlations between surface-level lexical features and coreference relationships, impairing the overall performance of the models. To address this issue, we propose a novel cross-document event coreference resolution method based on Argument-Centric Causal Intervention (ACCI). Specifically, we construct a structural causal graph to uncover confounding dependencies between lexical triggers and coreference labels, and introduce backdoor-adjusted interventions to isolate the true causal effect of argument semantics. To further mitigate spurious correlations, ACCI integrates a counterfactual reasoning module that quantifies the causal influence of trigger word perturbations, and an argument-aware enhancement module to promote greater sensitivity to semantically grounded information. In contrast to prior methods that depend on costly data augmentation or heuristic-based filtering, ACCI enables effective debiasing in a unified end-to-end framework without altering the underlying training procedure. Extensive experiments demonstrate that ACCI achieves CoNLL F1 of 88.4% on ECB+ and 85.2% on GVC, achieving state-of-the-art performance. The implementation and materials are available at https://github.com/era211/ACCI.

WaveGuard: Robust Deepfake Detection and Source Tracing via Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet and Graph Neural Networks

Ziyuan He, Zhiqing Guo, Liejun Wang et al.

Deepfake technology poses increasing risks such as privacy invasion and identity theft. To address these threats, we propose WaveGuard, a proactive watermarking framework that enhances robustness and imperceptibility via frequency-domain embedding and graph-based structural consistency. Specifically, we embed watermarks into high-frequency sub-bands using Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform (DT-CWT) and employ a Structural Consistency Graph Neural Network (SC-GNN) to preserve visual quality. We also design an attention module to refine embedding precision. Experimental results on face swap and reenactment tasks demonstrate that WaveGuard outperforms state-of-the-art methods in both robustness and visual quality. Code is available at https://github.com/vpsg-research/WaveGuard.

Magnitude-Phase Dual-Path Speech Enhancement Network based on Self-Supervised Embedding and Perceptual Contrast Stretch Boosting

Alimjan Mattursun, Liejun Wang, Yinfeng Yu et al.

Speech self-supervised learning (SSL) has made great progress in various speech processing tasks, but there is still room for improvement in speech enhancement (SE). This paper presents BSP-MPNet, a dual-path framework that combines self-supervised features with magnitude-phase information for SE. The approach starts by applying the perceptual contrast stretching (PCS) algorithm to enhance the magnitude-phase spectrum. A magnitude-phase 2D coarse (MP-2DC) encoder then extracts coarse features from the enhanced spectrum. Next, a feature-separating self-supervised learning (FS-SSL) model generates self-supervised embeddings for the magnitude and phase components separately. These embeddings are fused to create cross-domain feature representations. Finally, two parallel RNN-enhanced multi-attention (REMA) mask decoders refine the features, apply them to the mask, and reconstruct the speech signal. We evaluate BSP-MPNet on the VoiceBank+DEMAND and WHAMR! datasets. Experimental results show that BSP-MPNet outperforms existing methods under various noise conditions, providing new directions for self-supervised speech enhancement research. The implementation of the BSP-MPNet code is available online\footnote[2]{https://github.com/AlimMat/BSP-MPNet. \label{s1}}

Heterogeneous Space Fusion and Dual-Dimension Attention: A New Paradigm for Speech Enhancement

Tao Zheng, Liejun Wang, Yinfeng Yu

Self-supervised learning has demonstrated impressive performance in speech tasks, yet there remains ample opportunity for advancement in the realm of speech enhancement research. In addressing speech tasks, confining the attention mechanism solely to the temporal dimension poses limitations in effectively focusing on critical speech features. Considering the aforementioned issues, our study introduces a novel speech enhancement framework, HFSDA, which skillfully integrates heterogeneous spatial features and incorporates a dual-dimension attention mechanism to significantly enhance speech clarity and quality in noisy environments. By leveraging self-supervised learning embeddings in tandem with Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) spectrogram features, our model excels at capturing both high-level semantic information and detailed spectral data, enabling a more thorough analysis and refinement of speech signals. Furthermore, we employ the innovative Omni-dimensional Dynamic Convolution (ODConv) technology within the spectrogram input branch, enabling enhanced extraction and integration of crucial information across multiple dimensions. Additionally, we refine the Conformer model by enhancing its feature extraction capabilities not only in the temporal dimension but also across the spectral domain. Extensive experiments on the VCTK-DEMAND dataset show that HFSDA is comparable to existing state-of-the-art models, confirming the validity of our approach.

FSDENet: A Frequency and Spatial Domains based Detail Enhancement Network for Remote Sensing Semantic Segmentation

Jiahao Fu, Yinfeng Yu, Liejun Wang

To fully leverage spatial information for remote sensing image segmentation and address semantic edge ambiguities caused by grayscale variations (e.g., shadows and low-contrast regions), we propose the Frequency and Spatial Domains based Detail Enhancement Network (FSDENet). Our framework employs spatial processing methods to extract rich multi-scale spatial features and fine-grained semantic details. By effectively integrating global and frequency-domain information through the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) in global mappings, the model's capability to discern global representations under grayscale variations is significantly strengthened. Additionally, we utilize Haar wavelet transform to decompose features into high- and low-frequency components, leveraging their distinct sensitivity to edge information to refine boundary segmentation. The model achieves dual-domain synergy by integrating spatial granularity with frequency-domain edge sensitivity, substantially improving segmentation accuracy in boundary regions and grayscale transition zones. Comprehensive experimental results demonstrate that FSDENet achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance on four widely adopted datasets: LoveDA, Vaihingen, Potsdam, and iSAID.

AMNet: An Acoustic Model Network for Enhanced Mandarin Speech Synthesis

Yubing Cao, Yinfeng Yu, Yongming Li et al.

This paper presents AMNet, an Acoustic Model Network designed to improve the performance of Mandarin speech synthesis by incorporating phrase structure annotation and local convolution modules. AMNet builds upon the FastSpeech 2 architecture while addressing the challenge of local context modeling, which is crucial for capturing intricate speech features such as pauses, stress, and intonation. By embedding a phrase structure parser into the model and introducing a local convolution module, AMNet enhances the model's sensitivity to local information. Additionally, AMNet decouples tonal characteristics from phonemes, providing explicit guidance for tone modeling, which improves tone accuracy and pronunciation. Experimental results demonstrate that AMNet outperforms baseline models in subjective and objective evaluations. The proposed model achieves superior Mean Opinion Scores (MOS), lower Mel Cepstral Distortion (MCD), and improved fundamental frequency fitting $F0 (R^2)$, confirming its ability to generate high-quality, natural, and expressive Mandarin speech.

Leveraging Label Potential for Enhanced Multimodal Emotion Recognition

Xuechun Shao, Yinfeng Yu, Liejun Wang

Multimodal emotion recognition (MER) seeks to integrate various modalities to predict emotional states accurately. However, most current research focuses solely on the fusion of audio and text features, overlooking the valuable information in emotion labels. This oversight could potentially hinder the performance of existing methods, as emotion labels harbor rich, insightful information that could significantly aid MER. We introduce a novel model called Label Signal-Guided Multimodal Emotion Recognition (LSGMER) to overcome this limitation. This model aims to fully harness the power of emotion label information to boost the classification accuracy and stability of MER. Specifically, LSGMER employs a Label Signal Enhancement module that optimizes the representation of modality features by interacting with audio and text features through label embeddings, enabling it to capture the nuances of emotions precisely. Furthermore, we propose a Joint Objective Optimization(JOO) approach to enhance classification accuracy by introducing the Attribution-Prediction Consistency Constraint (APC), which strengthens the alignment between fused features and emotion categories. Extensive experiments conducted on the IEMOCAP and MELD datasets have demonstrated the effectiveness of our proposed LSGMER model.

Modality-Invariant Bidirectional Temporal Representation Distillation Network for Missing Multimodal Sentiment Analysis

Xincheng Wang, Liejun Wang, Yinfeng Yu et al.

Multimodal Sentiment Analysis (MSA) integrates diverse modalities(text, audio, and video) to comprehensively analyze and understand individuals' emotional states. However, the real-world prevalence of incomplete data poses significant challenges to MSA, mainly due to the randomness of modality missing. Moreover, the heterogeneity issue in multimodal data has yet to be effectively addressed. To tackle these challenges, we introduce the Modality-Invariant Bidirectional Temporal Representation Distillation Network (MITR-DNet) for Missing Multimodal Sentiment Analysis. MITR-DNet employs a distillation approach, wherein a complete modality teacher model guides a missing modality student model, ensuring robustness in the presence of modality missing. Simultaneously, we developed the Modality-Invariant Bidirectional Temporal Representation Learning Module (MIB-TRL) to mitigate heterogeneity.

Revenue and Energy Efficiency-Driven Delay Constrained Computing Task Offloading and Resource Allocation in a Vehicular Edge Computing Network: A Deep Reinforcement Learning Approach

Xinyu Huang, Lijun He, Xing Chen et al.

For in-vehicle application, task type and vehicle state information, i.e., vehicle speed, bear a significant impact on the task delay requirement. However, the joint impact of task type and vehicle speed on the task delay constraint has not been studied, and this lack of study may cause a mismatch between the requirement of the task delay and allocated computation and wireless resources. In this paper, we propose a joint task type and vehicle speed-aware task offloading and resource allocation strategy to decrease the vehicl's energy cost for executing tasks and increase the revenue of the vehicle for processing tasks within the delay constraint. First, we establish the joint task type and vehicle speed-aware delay constraint model. Then, the delay, energy cost and revenue for task execution in the vehicular edge computing (VEC) server, local terminal and terminals of other vehicles are calculated. Based on the energy cost and revenue from task execution, the utility function of the vehicle is acquired. Next, we formulate a joint optimization of task offloading and resource allocation to maximize the utility level of the vehicles subject to the constraints of task delay, computation resources and wireless resources. To obtain a near-optimal solution of the formulated problem, a joint offloading and resource allocation based on the multi-agent deep deterministic policy gradient (JORA-MADDPG) algorithm is proposed to maximize the utility level of vehicles. Simulation results show that our algorithm can achieve superior performance in task completion delay, vehicles' energy cost and processing revenue.

Towards 5G: Joint Optimization of Video Segment Cache, Transcoding and Resource Allocation for Adaptive Video Streaming in a Muti-access Edge Computing Network

Xinyu Huang, Lijun He, Liejun Wang et al.

The cache and transcoding of the multi-access edge computing (MEC) server and wireless resource allocation in eNodeB interact and determine the quality of experience (QoE) of dynamic adaptive streaming over HTTP (DASH) clients in MEC networks. However, the relationship among the three factors has not been explored, which has led to limited improvement in clients' QoE. Therefore, we propose a joint optimization framework of video segment cache and transcoding in MEC servers and resource allocation to improve the QoE of DASH clients. Based on the established framework, we develop a MEC cache management mechanism that consists of the MEC cache partition, video segment deletion, and MEC cache space transfer. Then, a joint optimization algorithm that combines video segment cache and transcoding in the MEC server and resource allocation is proposed. In the algorithm, the clients' channel state and the playback status and cooperation among MEC servers are employed to estimate the client's priority, video segment presentation switch and continuous playback time. Considering the above four factors, we develop a utility function model of clients' QoE. Then, we formulate a mixed-integer nonlinear programming mathematical model to maximize the total utility of DASH clients, where the video segment cache and transcoding strategy and resource allocation strategy are jointly optimized. To solve this problem, we propose a low-complexity heuristic algorithm that decomposes the original problem into multiple subproblems. The simulation results show that our proposed algorithms efficiently improve client's throughput, received video quality and hit ratio of video segments while decreasing the playback rebuffering time, video segment presentation switch and system backhaul traffic.
