Towards Personalized Review Summarization by Modeling Historical Reviews from Customer and Product SeparatelyXin Cheng, Shen Gao, Yuchi Zhang et al.
Review summarization is a non-trivial task that aims to summarize the main idea of the product review in the E-commerce website. Different from the document summary which only needs to focus on the main facts described in the document, review summarization should not only summarize the main aspects mentioned in the review but also reflect the personal style of the review author. Although existing review summarization methods have incorporated the historical reviews of both customer and product, they usually simply concatenate and indiscriminately model this two heterogeneous information into a long sequence. Moreover, the rating information can also provide a high-level abstraction of customer preference, it has not been used by the majority of methods. In this paper, we propose the Heterogeneous Historical Review aware Review Summarization Model (HHRRS) which separately models the two types of historical reviews with the rating information by a graph reasoning module with a contrastive loss. We employ a multi-task framework that conducts the review sentiment classification and summarization jointly. Extensive experiments on four benchmark datasets demonstrate the superiority of HHRRS on both tasks.

IPPO: Obstacle Avoidance for Robotic Manipulators in Joint Space via Improved Proximal Policy OptimizationYongliang Wang, Hamidreza Kasaei
Reaching tasks with random targets and obstacles is a challenging task for robotic manipulators. In this study, we propose a novel model-free reinforcement learning approach based on proximal policy optimization (PPO) for training a deep policy to map the task space to the joint space of a 6-DoF manipulator. To facilitate the training process in a large workspace, we develop an efficient representation of environmental inputs and outputs. The calculation of the distance between obstacles and manipulator links is incorporated into the state representation using a geometry-based method. Additionally, to enhance the performance of the model in reaching tasks, we introduce the action ensembles method and design the policy to directly participate in value function updates in PPO. To overcome the challenges associated with training in real-robot environments, we develop a simulation environment in Gazebo to train the model as it produces a smaller Sim-to-Real gap compared to other simulators. However, training in Gazebo is time-intensive. To address this issue, we propose a Sim-to-Sim method to significantly reduce the training time. The trained model is then directly applied in a real-robot setup without fine-tuning. To evaluate the performance of the proposed approach, we perform several rounds of experiments in both simulated and real robots. We also compare the performance of the proposed approach with six baselines. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in performing reaching tasks with and without obstacles. our method outperformed the selected baselines by a large margin in different reaching task scenarios. A video of these experiments has been attached to the paper as supplementary material.

Precognition in Task-oriented Dialogue Understanding: Posterior Regularization by Future ContextNan Su, Yuchi Zhang, Chao Liu et al.
Task-oriented dialogue systems have become overwhelmingly popular in recent researches. Dialogue understanding is widely used to comprehend users' intent, emotion and dialogue state in task-oriented dialogue systems. Most previous works on such discriminative tasks only models current query or historical conversations. Even if in some work the entire dialogue flow was modeled, it is not suitable for the real-world task-oriented conversations as the future contexts are not visible in such cases. In this paper, we propose to jointly model historical and future information through the posterior regularization method. More specifically, by modeling the current utterance and past contexts as prior, and the entire dialogue flow as posterior, we optimize the KL distance between these distributions to regularize our model during training. And only historical information is used for inference. Extensive experiments on two dialogue datasets validate the effectiveness of our proposed method, achieving superior results compared with all baseline models.

Utterance Rewriting with Contrastive Learning in Multi-turn DialogueZhihao Wang, Tangjian Duan, Zihao Wang et al.
Context modeling plays a significant role in building multi-turn dialogue systems. In order to make full use of context information, systems can use Incomplete Utterance Rewriting(IUR) methods to simplify the multi-turn dialogue into single-turn by merging current utterance and context information into a self-contained utterance. However, previous approaches ignore the intent consistency between the original query and rewritten query. The detection of omitted or coreferred locations in the original query can be further improved. In this paper, we introduce contrastive learning and multi-task learning to jointly model the problem. Our method benefits from carefully designed self-supervised objectives, which act as auxiliary tasks to capture semantics at both sentence-level and token-level. The experiments show that our proposed model achieves state-of-the-art performance on several public datasets.
ImageRef-VL: Enabling Contextual Image Referencing in Vision-Language ModelsJingwei Yi, Junhao Yin, Ju Xu et al.
Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have demonstrated remarkable capabilities in understanding multimodal inputs and have been widely integrated into Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) based conversational systems. While current VLM-powered chatbots can provide textual source references in their responses, they exhibit significant limitations in referencing contextually relevant images during conversations. In this paper, we introduce Contextual Image Reference -- the ability to appropriately reference relevant images from retrieval documents based on conversation context -- and systematically investigate VLMs' capability in this aspect. We conduct the first evaluation for contextual image referencing, comprising a dedicated testing dataset and evaluation metrics. Furthermore, we propose ImageRef-VL, a method that significantly enhances open-source VLMs' image referencing capabilities through instruction fine-tuning on a large-scale, manually curated multimodal conversation dataset. Experimental results demonstrate that ImageRef-VL not only outperforms proprietary models but also achieves an 88% performance improvement over state-of-the-art open-source VLMs in contextual image referencing tasks. Learning Dual-Arm Coordination for Grasping Large Flat ObjectsYongliang Wang, Hamidreza Kasaei
Grasping large flat objects, such as books or keyboards lying horizontally, presents significant challenges for single-arm robotic systems, often requiring extra actions like pushing objects against walls or moving them to the edge of a surface to facilitate grasping. In contrast, dual-arm manipulation, inspired by human dexterity, offers a more refined solution by directly coordinating both arms to lift and grasp the object without the need for complex repositioning. In this paper, we propose a model-free deep reinforcement learning (DRL) framework to enable dual-arm coordination for grasping large flat objects. We utilize a large-scale grasp pose detection model as a backbone to extract high-dimensional features from input images, which are then used as the state representation in a reinforcement learning (RL) model. A CNN-based Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) algorithm with shared Actor-Critic layers is employed to learn coordinated dual-arm grasp actions. The system is trained and tested in Isaac Gym and deployed to real robots. Experimental results demonstrate that our policy can effectively grasp large flat objects without requiring additional maneuvers. Furthermore, the policy exhibits strong generalization capabilities, successfully handling unseen objects. Importantly, it can be directly transferred to real robots without fine-tuning, consistently outperforming baseline methods.

LADB: Latent Aligned Diffusion Bridges for Semi-Supervised Domain TranslationXuqin Wang, Tao Wu, Yanfeng Zhang et al.
Diffusion models excel at generating high-quality outputs but face challenges in data-scarce domains, where exhaustive retraining or costly paired data are often required. To address these limitations, we propose Latent Aligned Diffusion Bridges (LADB), a semi-supervised framework for sample-to-sample translation that effectively bridges domain gaps using partially paired data. By aligning source and target distributions within a shared latent space, LADB seamlessly integrates pretrained source-domain diffusion models with a target-domain Latent Aligned Diffusion Model (LADM), trained on partially paired latent representations. This approach enables deterministic domain mapping without the need for full supervision. Compared to unpaired methods, which often lack controllability, and fully paired approaches that require large, domain-specific datasets, LADB strikes a balance between fidelity and diversity by leveraging a mixture of paired and unpaired latent-target couplings. Our experimental results demonstrate superior performance in depth-to-image translation under partial supervision. Furthermore, we extend LADB to handle multi-source translation (from depth maps and segmentation masks) and multi-target translation in a class-conditioned style transfer task, showcasing its versatility in handling diverse and heterogeneous use cases. Ultimately, we present LADB as a scalable and versatile solution for real-world domain translation, particularly in scenarios where data annotation is costly or incomplete.

Relation Aware Semi-autoregressive Semantic Parsing for NL2SQLJunyang Huang, Yongbo Wang, Yongliang Wang et al.
Natural language to SQL (NL2SQL) aims to parse a natural language with a given database into a SQL query, which widely appears in practical Internet applications. Jointly encode database schema and question utterance is a difficult but important task in NL2SQL. One solution is to treat the input as a heterogeneous graph. However, it failed to learn good word representation in question utterance. Learning better word representation is important for constructing a well-designed NL2SQL system. To solve the challenging task, we present a Relation aware Semi-autogressive Semantic Parsing (\MODN) ~framework, which is more adaptable for NL2SQL. It first learns relation embedding over the schema entities and question words with predefined schema relations with ELECTRA and relation aware transformer layer as backbone. Then we decode the query SQL with a semi-autoregressive parser and predefined SQL syntax. From empirical results and case study, our model shows its effectiveness in learning better word representation in NL2SQL.
