Boosting Point Clouds Rendering via Radiance MappingXiaoyang Huang, Yi Zhang, Bingbing Ni et al.
Recent years we have witnessed rapid development in NeRF-based image rendering due to its high quality. However, point clouds rendering is somehow less explored. Compared to NeRF-based rendering which suffers from dense spatial sampling, point clouds rendering is naturally less computation intensive, which enables its deployment in mobile computing device. In this work, we focus on boosting the image quality of point clouds rendering with a compact model design. We first analyze the adaption of the volume rendering formulation on point clouds. Based on the analysis, we simplify the NeRF representation to a spatial mapping function which only requires single evaluation per pixel. Further, motivated by ray marching, we rectify the the noisy raw point clouds to the estimated intersection between rays and surfaces as queried coordinates, which could avoid \textit{spatial frequency collapse} and neighbor point disturbance. Composed of rasterization, spatial mapping and the refinement stages, our method achieves the state-of-the-art performance on point clouds rendering, outperforming prior works by notable margins, with a smaller model size. 3D shape analysis has been widely explored in the era of deep learning. Numerous models have been developed for various 3D data representation formats, e.g., MeshCNN for meshes, PointNet for point clouds and VoxNet for voxels. In this study, we present Representation-Agnostic Shape Fields (RASF), a generalizable and computation-efficient shape embedding module for 3D deep learning. RASF is implemented with a learnable 3D grid with multiple channels to store local geometry. Based on RASF, shape embeddings for various 3D shape representations (point clouds, meshes and voxels) are retrieved by coordinate indexing. While there are multiple ways to optimize the learnable parameters of RASF, we provide two effective schemes among all in this paper for RASF pre-training: shape reconstruction and normal estimation. Once trained, RASF becomes a plug-and-play performance booster with negligible cost. Extensive experiments on diverse 3D representation formats, networks and applications, validate the universal effectiveness of the proposed RASF. AudioEar: Single-View Ear Reconstruction for Personalized Spatial AudioXiaoyang Huang, Yanjun Wang, Yang Liu et al.
Spatial audio, which focuses on immersive 3D sound rendering, is widely applied in the acoustic industry. One of the key problems of current spatial audio rendering methods is the lack of personalization based on different anatomies of individuals, which is essential to produce accurate sound source positions. In this work, we address this problem from an interdisciplinary perspective. The rendering of spatial audio is strongly correlated with the 3D shape of human bodies, particularly ears. To this end, we propose to achieve personalized spatial audio by reconstructing 3D human ears with single-view images. First, to benchmark the ear reconstruction task, we introduce AudioEar3D, a high-quality 3D ear dataset consisting of 112 point cloud ear scans with RGB images. To self-supervisedly train a reconstruction model, we further collect a 2D ear dataset composed of 2,000 images, each one with manual annotation of occlusion and 55 landmarks, named AudioEar2D. To our knowledge, both datasets have the largest scale and best quality of their kinds for public use. Further, we propose AudioEarM, a reconstruction method guided by a depth estimation network that is trained on synthetic data, with two loss functions tailored for ear data. Lastly, to fill the gap between the vision and acoustics community, we develop a pipeline to integrate the reconstructed ear mesh with an off-the-shelf 3D human body and simulate a personalized Head-Related Transfer Function (HRTF), which is the core of spatial audio rendering. Boosting Video Object Segmentation via Space-time Correspondence LearningYurong Zhang, Liulei Li, Wenguan Wang et al.
Current top-leading solutions for video object segmentation (VOS) typically follow a matching-based regime: for each query frame, the segmentation mask is inferred according to its correspondence to previously processed and the first annotated frames. They simply exploit the supervisory signals from the groundtruth masks for learning mask prediction only, without posing any constraint on the space-time correspondence matching, which, however, is the fundamental building block of such regime. To alleviate this crucial yet commonly ignored issue, we devise a correspondence-aware training framework, which boosts matching-based VOS solutions by explicitly encouraging robust correspondence matching during network learning. Through comprehensively exploring the intrinsic coherence in videos on pixel and object levels, our algorithm reinforces the standard, fully supervised training of mask segmentation with label-free, contrastive correspondence learning. Without neither requiring extra annotation cost during training, nor causing speed delay during deployment, nor incurring architectural modification, our algorithm provides solid performance gains on four widely used benchmarks, i.e., DAVIS2016&2017, and YouTube-VOS2018&2019, on the top of famous matching-based VOS solutions.

Collaborative Perception for Autonomous Driving: Current Status and Future TrendShunli Ren, Siheng Chen, Wenjun Zhang
Perception is one of the crucial module of the autonomous driving system, which has made great progress recently. However, limited ability of individual vehicles results in the bottleneck of improvement of the perception performance. To break through the limits of individual perception, collaborative perception has been proposed which enables vehicles to share information to perceive the environments beyond line-of-sight and field-of-view. In this paper, we provide a review of the related work about the promising collaborative perception technology, including introducing the fundamental concepts, generalizing the collaboration modes and summarizing the key ingredients and applications of collaborative perception. Finally, we discuss the open challenges and issues of this research area and give some potential further directions.
Frequency-Modulated Point Cloud Rendering with Easy EditingYi Zhang, Xiaoyang Huang, Bingbing Ni et al.
We develop an effective point cloud rendering pipeline for novel view synthesis, which enables high fidelity local detail reconstruction, real-time rendering and user-friendly editing. In the heart of our pipeline is an adaptive frequency modulation module called Adaptive Frequency Net (AFNet), which utilizes a hypernetwork to learn the local texture frequency encoding that is consecutively injected into adaptive frequency activation layers to modulate the implicit radiance signal. This mechanism improves the frequency expressive ability of the network with richer frequency basis support, only at a small computational budget. To further boost performance, a preprocessing module is also proposed for point cloud geometry optimization via point opacity estimation. In contrast to implicit rendering, our pipeline supports high-fidelity interactive editing based on point cloud manipulation. Extensive experimental results on NeRF-Synthetic, ScanNet, DTU and Tanks and Temples datasets demonstrate the superior performances achieved by our method in terms of PSNR, SSIM and LPIPS, in comparison to the state-of-the-art.
Mipmap-GS: Let Gaussians Deform with Scale-specific Mipmap for Anti-aliasing RenderingJiameng Li, Yue Shi, Jiezhang Cao et al.
3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) has attracted great attention in novel view synthesis because of its superior rendering efficiency and high fidelity. However, the trained Gaussians suffer from severe zooming degradation due to non-adjustable representation derived from single-scale training. Though some methods attempt to tackle this problem via post-processing techniques such as selective rendering or filtering techniques towards primitives, the scale-specific information is not involved in Gaussians. In this paper, we propose a unified optimization method to make Gaussians adaptive for arbitrary scales by self-adjusting the primitive properties (e.g., color, shape and size) and distribution (e.g., position). Inspired by the mipmap technique, we design pseudo ground-truth for the target scale and propose a scale-consistency guidance loss to inject scale information into 3D Gaussians. Our method is a plug-in module, applicable for any 3DGS models to solve the zoom-in and zoom-out aliasing. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. Notably, our method outperforms 3DGS in PSNR by an average of 9.25 dB for zoom-in and 10.40 dB for zoom-out on the NeRF Synthetic dataset.

MambaJSCC: Adaptive Deep Joint Source-Channel Coding with Generalized State Space ModelTong Wu, Zhiyong Chen, Meixia Tao et al.
Lightweight and efficient neural network models for deep joint source-channel coding (JSCC) are crucial for semantic communications. In this paper, we propose a novel JSCC architecture, named MambaJSCC, that achieves state-of-the-art performance with low computational and parameter overhead. MambaJSCC utilizes the visual state space model with channel adaptation (VSSM-CA) blocks as its backbone for transmitting images over wireless channels, where the VSSM-CA primarily consists of the generalized state space models (GSSM) and the zero-parameter, zero-computational channel adaptation method (CSI-ReST). We design the GSSM module, leveraging reversible matrix transformations to express generalized scan expanding operations, and theoretically prove that two GSSM modules can effectively capture global information. We discover that GSSM inherently possesses the ability to adapt to channels, a form of endogenous intelligence. Based on this, we design the CSI-ReST method, which injects channel state information (CSI) into the initial state of GSSM to utilize its native response, and into the residual state to mitigate CSI forgetting, enabling effective channel adaptation without introducing additional computational and parameter overhead. Experimental results show that MambaJSCC not only outperforms existing JSCC methods (e.g., SwinJSCC) across various scenarios but also significantly reduces parameter size, computational overhead, and inference delay.

SSP-IR: Semantic and Structure Priors for Diffusion-based Realistic Image RestorationYuhong Zhang, Hengsheng Zhang, Zhengxue Cheng et al.
Realistic image restoration is a crucial task in computer vision, and diffusion-based models for image restoration have garnered significant attention due to their ability to produce realistic results. Restoration can be seen as a controllable generation conditioning on priors. However, due to the severity of image degradation, existing diffusion-based restoration methods cannot fully exploit priors from low-quality images and still have many challenges in perceptual quality, semantic fidelity, and structure accuracy. Based on the challenges, we introduce a novel image restoration method, SSP-IR. Our approach aims to fully exploit semantic and structure priors from low-quality images to guide the diffusion model in generating semantically faithful and structurally accurate natural restoration results. Specifically, we integrate the visual comprehension capabilities of Multimodal Large Language Models (explicit) and the visual representations of the original image (implicit) to acquire accurate semantic prior. To extract degradation-independent structure prior, we introduce a Processor with RGB and FFT constraints to extract structure prior from the low-quality images, guiding the diffusion model and preventing the generation of unreasonable artifacts. Lastly, we employ a multi-level attention mechanism to integrate the acquired semantic and structure priors. The qualitative and quantitative results demonstrate that our method outperforms other state-of-the-art methods overall on both synthetic and real-world datasets. Pragmatic Communication in Multi-Agent Collaborative PerceptionYue Hu, Xianghe Pang, Xiaoqi Qin et al.
Collaborative perception allows each agent to enhance its perceptual abilities by exchanging messages with others. It inherently results in a trade-off between perception ability and communication costs. Previous works transmit complete full-frame high-dimensional feature maps among agents, resulting in substantial communication costs. To promote communication efficiency, we propose only transmitting the information needed for the collaborator's downstream task. This pragmatic communication strategy focuses on three key aspects: i) pragmatic message selection, which selects task-critical parts from the complete data, resulting in spatially and temporally sparse feature vectors; ii) pragmatic message representation, which achieves pragmatic approximation of high-dimensional feature vectors with a task-adaptive dictionary, enabling communicating with integer indices; iii) pragmatic collaborator selection, which identifies beneficial collaborators, pruning unnecessary communication links. Following this strategy, we first formulate a mathematical optimization framework for the perception-communication trade-off and then propose PragComm, a multi-agent collaborative perception system with two key components: i) single-agent detection and tracking and ii) pragmatic collaboration. The proposed PragComm promotes pragmatic communication and adapts to a wide range of communication conditions. We evaluate PragComm for both collaborative 3D object detection and tracking tasks in both real-world, V2V4Real, and simulation datasets, OPV2V and V2X-SIM2.0. S2CFormer: Revisiting the RD-Latency Trade-off in Transformer-based Learned Image CompressionYunuo Chen, Qian Li, Bing He et al.
Transformer-based Learned Image Compression (LIC) suffers from a suboptimal trade-off between decoding latency and rate-distortion (R-D) performance. Moreover, the critical role of the FeedForward Network (FFN)-based channel aggregation module has been largely overlooked. Our research reveals that efficient channel aggregation-rather than complex and time-consuming spatial operations-is the key to achieving competitive LIC models. Based on this insight, we initiate the ``S2CFormer'' paradigm, a general architecture that simplifies spatial operations and enhances channel operations to overcome the previous trade-off. We present two instances of the S2CFormer: S2C-Conv, and S2C-Attention. Both models demonstrate state-of-the-art (SOTA) R-D performance and significantly faster decoding speed. Furthermore, we introduce S2C-Hybrid, an enhanced variant that maximizes the strengths of different S2CFormer instances to achieve a better performance-latency trade-off. This model outperforms all the existing methods on the Kodak, Tecnick, and CLIC Professional Validation datasets, setting a new benchmark for efficient and high-performance LIC. Learning Distilled Collaboration Graph for Multi-Agent PerceptionYiming Li, Shunli Ren, Pengxiang Wu et al.
To promote better performance-bandwidth trade-off for multi-agent perception, we propose a novel distilled collaboration graph (DiscoGraph) to model trainable, pose-aware, and adaptive collaboration among agents. Our key novelties lie in two aspects. First, we propose a teacher-student framework to train DiscoGraph via knowledge distillation. The teacher model employs an early collaboration with holistic-view inputs; the student model is based on intermediate collaboration with single-view inputs. Our framework trains DiscoGraph by constraining post-collaboration feature maps in the student model to match the correspondences in the teacher model. Second, we propose a matrix-valued edge weight in DiscoGraph. In such a matrix, each element reflects the inter-agent attention at a specific spatial region, allowing an agent to adaptively highlight the informative regions. During inference, we only need to use the student model named as the distilled collaboration network (DiscoNet). Attributed to the teacher-student framework, multiple agents with the shared DiscoNet could collaboratively approach the performance of a hypothetical teacher model with a holistic view. Our approach is validated on V2X-Sim 1.0, a large-scale multi-agent perception dataset that we synthesized using CARLA and SUMO co-simulation. Our quantitative and qualitative experiments in multi-agent 3D object detection show that DiscoNet could not only achieve a better performance-bandwidth trade-off than the state-of-the-art collaborative perception methods, but also bring more straightforward design rationale. 3D Human Action Representation Learning via Cross-View Consistency PursuitLinguo Li, Minsi Wang, Bingbing Ni et al.
In this work, we propose a Cross-view Contrastive Learning framework for unsupervised 3D skeleton-based action Representation (CrosSCLR), by leveraging multi-view complementary supervision signal. CrosSCLR consists of both single-view contrastive learning (SkeletonCLR) and cross-view consistent knowledge mining (CVC-KM) modules, integrated in a collaborative learning manner. It is noted that CVC-KM works in such a way that high-confidence positive/negative samples and their distributions are exchanged among views according to their embedding similarity, ensuring cross-view consistency in terms of contrastive context, i.e., similar distributions. Extensive experiments show that CrosSCLR achieves remarkable action recognition results on NTU-60 and NTU-120 datasets under unsupervised settings, with observed higher-quality action representations. Learning to Combine: Knowledge Aggregation for Multi-Source Domain AdaptationHang Wang, Minghao Xu, Bingbing Ni et al.
Transferring knowledges learned from multiple source domains to target domain is a more practical and challenging task than conventional single-source domain adaptation. Furthermore, the increase of modalities brings more difficulty in aligning feature distributions among multiple domains. To mitigate these problems, we propose a Learning to Combine for Multi-Source Domain Adaptation (LtC-MSDA) framework via exploring interactions among domains. In the nutshell, a knowledge graph is constructed on the prototypes of various domains to realize the information propagation among semantically adjacent representations. On such basis, a graph model is learned to predict query samples under the guidance of correlated prototypes. In addition, we design a Relation Alignment Loss (RAL) to facilitate the consistency of categories' relational interdependency and the compactness of features, which boosts features' intra-class invariance and inter-class separability. Comprehensive results on public benchmark datasets demonstrate that our approach outperforms existing methods with a remarkable margin. Cross-domain Detection via Graph-induced Prototype AlignmentMinghao Xu, Hang Wang, Bingbing Ni et al.
Applying the knowledge of an object detector trained on a specific domain directly onto a new domain is risky, as the gap between two domains can severely degrade model's performance. Furthermore, since different instances commonly embody distinct modal information in object detection scenario, the feature alignment of source and target domain is hard to be realized. To mitigate these problems, we propose a Graph-induced Prototype Alignment (GPA) framework to seek for category-level domain alignment via elaborate prototype representations. In the nutshell, more precise instance-level features are obtained through graph-based information propagation among region proposals, and, on such basis, the prototype representation of each class is derived for category-level domain alignment. In addition, in order to alleviate the negative effect of class-imbalance on domain adaptation, we design a Class-reweighted Contrastive Loss to harmonize the adaptation training process. Combining with Faster R-CNN, the proposed framework conducts feature alignment in a two-stage manner. Comprehensive results on various cross-domain detection tasks demonstrate that our approach outperforms existing methods with a remarkable margin. Generalized Medical Phrase GroundingWenjun Zhang, Shekhar S. Chandra, Aaron Nicolson
Medical phrase grounding (MPG) maps textual descriptions of radiological findings to corresponding image regions. These grounded reports are easier to interpret, especially for non-experts. Existing MPG systems mostly follow the referring expression comprehension (REC) paradigm and return exactly one bounding box per phrase. Real reports often violate this assumption. They contain multi-region findings, non-diagnostic text, and non-groundable phrases, such as negations or descriptions of normal anatomy. Motivated by this, we reformulate the task as generalised medical phrase grounding (GMPG), where each sentence is mapped to zero, one, or multiple scored regions. To realise this formulation, we introduce the first GMPG model: MedGrounder. We adopted a two-stage training regime: pre-training on report sentence--anatomy box alignment datasets and fine-tuning on report sentence--human annotated box datasets. Experiments on PadChest-GR and MS-CXR show that MedGrounder achieves strong zero-shot transfer and outperforms REC-style and grounded report generation baselines on multi-region and non-groundable phrases, while using far fewer human box annotations. Finally, we show that MedGrounder can be composed with existing report generators to produce grounded reports without retraining the generator.

Large Language Model for Lossless Image Compression with Visual PromptsJunhao Du, Chuqin Zhou, Ning Cao et al.
Recent advancements in deep learning have driven significant progress in lossless image compression. With the emergence of Large Language Models (LLMs), preliminary attempts have been made to leverage the extensive prior knowledge embedded in these pretrained models to enhance lossless image compression, particularly by improving the entropy model. However, a significant challenge remains in bridging the gap between the textual prior knowledge within LLMs and lossless image compression. To tackle this challenge and unlock the potential of LLMs, this paper introduces a novel paradigm for lossless image compression that incorporates LLMs with visual prompts. Specifically, we first generate a lossy reconstruction of the input image as visual prompts, from which we extract features to serve as visual embeddings for the LLM. The residual between the original image and the lossy reconstruction is then fed into the LLM along with these visual embeddings, enabling the LLM to function as an entropy model to predict the probability distribution of the residual. Extensive experiments on multiple benchmark datasets demonstrate our method achieves state-of-the-art compression performance, surpassing both traditional and learning-based lossless image codecs. Furthermore, our approach can be easily extended to images from other domains, such as medical and screen content images, achieving impressive performance. These results highlight the potential of LLMs for lossless image compression and may inspire further research in related directions.

Controllable Distortion-Perception Tradeoff Through Latent Diffusion for Neural Image CompressionChuqin Zhou, Guo Lu, Jiangchuan Li et al.
Neural image compression often faces a challenging trade-off among rate, distortion and perception. While most existing methods typically focus on either achieving high pixel-level fidelity or optimizing for perceptual metrics, we propose a novel approach that simultaneously addresses both aspects for a fixed neural image codec. Specifically, we introduce a plug-and-play module at the decoder side that leverages a latent diffusion process to transform the decoded features, enhancing either low distortion or high perceptual quality without altering the original image compression codec. Our approach facilitates fusion of original and transformed features without additional training, enabling users to flexibly adjust the balance between distortion and perception during inference. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our method significantly enhances the pretrained codecs with a wide, adjustable distortion-perception range while maintaining their original compression capabilities. For instance, we can achieve more than 150% improvement in LPIPS-BDRate without sacrificing more than 1 dB in PSNR.

AI2MMUM: AI-AI Oriented Multi-Modal Universal Model Leveraging Telecom Domain Large ModelTianyu Jiao, Zhuoran Xiao, Yihang Huang et al.
Designing a 6G-oriented universal model capable of processing multi-modal data and executing diverse air interface tasks has emerged as a common goal in future wireless systems. Building on our prior work in communication multi-modal alignment and telecom large language model (LLM), we propose a scalable, task-aware artificial intelligence-air interface multi-modal universal model (AI2MMUM), which flexibility and effectively perform various physical layer tasks according to subtle task instructions. The LLM backbone provides robust contextual comprehension and generalization capabilities, while a fine-tuning approach is adopted to incorporate domain-specific knowledge. To enhance task adaptability, task instructions consist of fixed task keywords and learnable, implicit prefix prompts. Frozen radio modality encoders extract universal representations and adapter layers subsequently bridge radio and language modalities. Moreover, lightweight task-specific heads are designed to directly output task objectives. Comprehensive evaluations demonstrate that AI2MMUM achieves SOTA performance across five representative physical environment/wireless channel-based downstream tasks using the WAIR-D and DeepMIMO datasets.

Multi-user Wireless Image Semantic Transmission over MIMO Multiple Access ChannelsBingyan Xie, Yongpeng Wu, Feng Shu et al.
This paper focuses on a typical uplink transmission scenario over multiple-input multiple-output multiple access channel (MIMO-MAC) and thus propose a multi-user learnable CSI fusion semantic communication (MU-LCFSC) framework. It incorporates CSI as the side information into both the semantic encoders and decoders to generate a proper feature mask map in order to produce a more robust attention weight distribution. Especially for the decoding end, a cooperative successive interference cancellation procedure is conducted along with a cooperative mask ratio generator, which flexibly controls the mask elements of feature mask maps. Numerical results verify the superiority of proposed MU-LCFSC compared to DeepJSCC-NOMA over 3 dB in terms of PSNR.

Learnable Residual-Based Latent Denoising in Semantic CommunicationMingkai Xu, Yongpeng Wu, Yuxuan Shi et al.
A latent denoising semantic communication (SemCom) framework is proposed for robust image transmission over noisy channels. By incorporating a learnable latent denoiser into the receiver, the received signals are preprocessed to effectively remove the channel noise and recover the semantic information, thereby enhancing the quality of the decoded images. Specifically, a latent denoising mapping is established by an iterative residual learning approach to improve the denoising efficiency while ensuring stable performance. Moreover, channel signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is utilized to estimate and predict the latent similarity score (SS) for conditional denoising, where the number of denoising steps is adapted based on the predicted SS sequence, further reducing the communication latency. Finally, simulations demonstrate that the proposed framework can effectively and efficiently remove the channel noise at various levels and reconstruct visual-appealing images.

4DGCPro: Efficient Hierarchical 4D Gaussian Compression for Progressive Volumetric Video StreamingZihan Zheng, Zhenlong Wu, Houqiang Zhong et al.
Achieving seamless viewing of high-fidelity volumetric video, comparable to 2D video experiences, remains an open challenge. Existing volumetric video compression methods either lack the flexibility to adjust quality and bitrate within a single model for efficient streaming across diverse networks and devices, or struggle with real-time decoding and rendering on lightweight mobile platforms. To address these challenges, we introduce 4DGCPro, a novel hierarchical 4D Gaussian compression framework that facilitates real-time mobile decoding and high-quality rendering via progressive volumetric video streaming in a single bitstream. Specifically, we propose a perceptually-weighted and compression-friendly hierarchical 4D Gaussian representation with motion-aware adaptive grouping to reduce temporal redundancy, preserve coherence, and enable scalable multi-level detail streaming. Furthermore, we present an end-to-end entropy-optimized training scheme, which incorporates layer-wise rate-distortion (RD) supervision and attribute-specific entropy modeling for efficient bitstream generation. Extensive experiments show that 4DGCPro enables flexible quality and multiple bitrate within a single model, achieving real-time decoding and rendering on mobile devices while outperforming existing methods in RD performance across multiple datasets. 4D-MoDe: Towards Editable and Scalable Volumetric Streaming via Motion-Decoupled 4D Gaussian CompressionHouqiang Zhong, Zihan Zheng, Qiang Hu et al.
Volumetric video has emerged as a key medium for immersive telepresence and augmented/virtual reality, enabling six-degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) navigation and realistic spatial interactions. However, delivering high-quality dynamic volumetric content at scale remains challenging due to massive data volume, complex motion, and limited editability of existing representations. In this paper, we present 4D-MoDe, a motion-decoupled 4D Gaussian compression framework designed for scalable and editable volumetric video streaming. Our method introduces a layered representation that explicitly separates static backgrounds from dynamic foregrounds using a lookahead-based motion decomposition strategy, significantly reducing temporal redundancy and enabling selective background/foreground streaming. To capture continuous motion trajectories, we employ a multi-resolution motion estimation grid and a lightweight shared MLP, complemented by a dynamic Gaussian compensation mechanism to model emergent content. An adaptive grouping scheme dynamically inserts background keyframes to balance temporal consistency and compression efficiency. Furthermore, an entropy-aware training pipeline jointly optimizes the motion fields and Gaussian parameters under a rate-distortion (RD) objective, while employing range-based and KD-tree compression to minimize storage overhead. Extensive experiments on multiple datasets demonstrate that 4D-MoDe consistently achieves competitive reconstruction quality with an order of magnitude lower storage cost (e.g., as low as \textbf{11.4} KB/frame) compared to state-of-the-art methods, while supporting practical applications such as background replacement and foreground-only streaming.

Cross-field SNR Analysis and Tensor Channel Estimation for Multi-UAV Near-field CommunicationsTianyu Huo, Jian Xiong, Yiyan Wu et al.
Extremely large antenna array (ELAA) is key to enhancing spectral efficiency in 6G networks. Leveraging the distributed nature of multi-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems enables the formation of distributed ELAA, which often operate in the near-field region with spatial sparsity, rendering the conventional far-field plane wave assumption invalid. This paper investigates channel estimation for distributed near-field multi-UAV communication systems. We first derive closed-form signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) expressions under the plane wave model (PWM), spherical wave model (SWM), and a hybrid spherical-plane wave model (HSPWM), also referred to as the cross-field model, within a distributed uniform planar array (UPA) scenario. The analysis shows that HSPWM achieves a good balance between modeling accuracy and analytical tractability. Based on this, we propose two channel estimation algorithms: the spherical-domain orthogonal matching pursuit (SD-OMP) and the tensor-OMP. The SD-OMP generalizes the polar domain to jointly consider elevation, azimuth, and range. Under the HSPWM, the channel is naturally formulated as a tensor, enabling the use of tensor-OMP. Simulation results demonstrate that tensor-OMP achieves normalized mean square error (NMSE) performance comparable to SD-OMP, while offering reduced computational complexity and improved scalability.

InstantSticker: Realistic Decal Blending via Disentangled Object ReconstructionYi Zhang, Xiaoyang Huang, Yishun Dou et al.
We present InstantSticker, a disentangled reconstruction pipeline based on Image-Based Lighting (IBL), which focuses on highly realistic decal blending, simulates stickers attached to the reconstructed surface, and allows for instant editing and real-time rendering. To achieve stereoscopic impression of the decal, we introduce shadow factor into IBL, which can be adaptively optimized during training. This allows the shadow brightness of surfaces to be accurately decomposed rather than baked into the diffuse color, ensuring that the edited texture exhibits authentic shading. To address the issues of warping and blurriness in previous methods, we apply As-Rigid-As-Possible (ARAP) parameterization to pre-unfold a specified area of the mesh and use the local UV mapping combined with a neural texture map to enhance the ability to express high-frequency details in that area. For instant editing, we utilize the Disney BRDF model, explicitly defining material colors with 3-channel diffuse albedo. This enables instant replacement of albedo RGB values during the editing process, avoiding the prolonged optimization required in previous approaches. In our experiment, we introduce the Ratio Variance Warping (RVW) metric to evaluate the local geometric warping of the decal area. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that our method surpasses previous decal blending methods in terms of editing quality, editing speed and rendering speed, achieving the state-of-the-art.
Anatomical grounding pre-training for medical phrase groundingWenjun Zhang, Shakes Chandra, Aaron Nicolson
Medical Phrase Grounding (MPG) maps radiological findings described in medical reports to specific regions in medical images. The primary obstacle hindering progress in MPG is the scarcity of annotated data available for training and validation. We propose anatomical grounding as an in-domain pre-training task that aligns anatomical terms with corresponding regions in medical images, leveraging large-scale datasets such as Chest ImaGenome. Our empirical evaluation on MS-CXR demonstrates that anatomical grounding pre-training significantly improves performance in both a zero-shot learning and fine-tuning setting, outperforming state-of-the-art MPG models. Our fine-tuned model achieved state-of-the-art performance on MS-CXR with an mIoU of 61.2, demonstrating the effectiveness of anatomical grounding pre-training for MPG.

Benchmarking Randomized Optimization Algorithms on Binary, Permutation, and Combinatorial Problem LandscapesJethro Odeyemi, Wenjun Zhang
In this paper, we evaluate the performance of four randomized optimization algorithms: Randomized Hill Climbing (RHC), Simulated Annealing (SA), Genetic Algorithms (GA), and MIMIC (Mutual Information Maximizing Input Clustering), across three distinct types of problems: binary, permutation, and combinatorial. We systematically compare these algorithms using a set of benchmark fitness functions that highlight the specific challenges and requirements of each problem category. Our study analyzes each algorithm's effectiveness based on key performance metrics, including solution quality, convergence speed, computational cost, and robustness. Results show that while MIMIC and GA excel in producing high-quality solutions for binary and combinatorial problems, their computational demands vary significantly. RHC and SA, while computationally less expensive, demonstrate limited performance in complex problem landscapes. The findings offer valuable insights into the trade-offs between different optimization strategies and provide practical guidance for selecting the appropriate algorithm based on the type of problems, accuracy requirements, and computational constraints.

Two Birds with One Stone: Multi-Task Semantic Communications Systems over Relay ChannelYujie Cao, Tong Wu, Zhiyong Chen et al.
In this paper, we propose a novel multi-task, multi-link relay semantic communications (MTML-RSC) scheme that enables the destination node to simultaneously perform image reconstruction and classification with one transmission from the source node. In the MTML-RSC scheme, the source node broadcasts a signal using semantic communications, and the relay node forwards the signal to the destination. We analyze the coupling relationship between the two tasks and the two links (source-to-relay and source-to-destination) and design a semantic-focused forward method for the relay node, where it selectively forwards only the semantics of the relevant class while ignoring others. At the destination, the node combines signals from both the source node and the relay node to perform classification, and then uses the classification result to assist in decoding the signal from the relay node for image reconstructing. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed MTML-RSC scheme achieves significant performance gains, e.g., $1.73$ dB improvement in peak-signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) for image reconstruction and increasing the accuracy from $64.89\%$ to $70.31\%$ for classification.

Multi-User Semantic Fusion for Semantic Communications over Degraded Broadcast ChannelsTong Wu, Zhiyong Chen, Meixia Tao et al.
Degraded broadcast channels (DBC) are a typical multiuser communication scenario, Semantic communications over DBC still lack in-depth research. In this paper, we design a semantic communications approach based on multi-user semantic fusion for wireless image transmission over DBC. In the proposed method, the transmitter extracts semantic features for two users separately. It then effectively fuses these semantic features for broadcasting by leveraging semantic similarity. Unlike traditional allocation of time, power, or bandwidth, the semantic fusion scheme can dynamically control the weight of the semantic features of the two users to balance the performance between the two users. Considering the different channel state information (CSI) of both users over DBC, a DBC-Aware method is developed that embeds the CSI of both users into the joint source-channel coding encoder and fusion module to adapt to the channel. Experimental results show that the proposed system outperforms the traditional broadcasting schemes.

In-Context Translation: Towards Unifying Image Recognition, Processing, and GenerationHan Xue, Qianru Sun, Li Song et al.
We propose In-Context Translation (ICT), a general learning framework to unify visual recognition (e.g., semantic segmentation), low-level image processing (e.g., denoising), and conditional image generation (e.g., edge-to-image synthesis). Thanks to unification, ICT significantly reduces the inherent inductive bias that comes with designing models for specific tasks, and it maximizes mutual enhancement across similar tasks. However, the unification across a large number of tasks is non-trivial due to various data formats and training pipelines. To this end, ICT introduces two designs. Firstly, it standardizes input-output data of different tasks into RGB image pairs, e.g., semantic segmentation data pairs an RGB image with its segmentation mask in the same RGB format. This turns different tasks into a general translation task between two RGB images. Secondly, it standardizes the training of different tasks into a general in-context learning, where "in-context" means the input comprises an example input-output pair of the target task and a query image. The learning objective is to generate the "missing" data paired with the query. The implicit translation process is thus between the query and the generated image. In experiments, ICT unifies ten vision tasks and showcases impressive performance on their respective benchmarks. Notably, ICT performs well across three major categories of computer vision tasks, while its two competitors (Painter and PromptDiffusion) are only effective in at most two of these task categories. In addition, compared to its competitors, ICT trained on only 4 RTX 3090 GPUs is shown to be more efficient and less costly in training.

Toward Better Understanding of Saliency Prediction in Augmented 360 Degree VideosYucheng Zhu, Xiongkuo Min, DanDan Zhu et al.
Augmented reality (AR) overlays digital content onto the reality. In AR system, correct and precise estimations of user's visual fixations and head movements can enhance the quality of experience by allocating more computation resources on the areas of interest. However, there is inadequate research about understanding the visual exploration of users when using an AR system or modeling AR visual attention. To bridge the gap between the saliency prediction on real-world scene and on scene augmented by virtual information, we construct the ARVR saliency dataset with 12 diverse videos viewed by 20 people. The virtual reality (VR) technique is employed to simulate the real-world. Annotations of object recognition and tracking as augmented contents are blended into the omnidirectional videos. The saliency annotations of head and eye movements for both original and augmented videos are collected and together constitute the ARVR dataset. We also design a model which is capable of solving the saliency prediction problem in AR. Local block images are extracted to simulate the viewport and offset the projection distortion. Conspicuous visual cues in local viewports are extracted to constitute the spatial features. The optical flow information is estimated as the important temporal feature. We also consider the interplay between virtual information and reality. The composition of the augmentation information is distinguished, and the joint effects of adversarial augmentation and complementary augmentation are estimated. We generate a graph by taking each block image as one node. Both the visual saliency mechanism and the characteristics of viewing behaviors are considered in the computation of edge weights on the graph which are interpreted as Markov chains. The fraction of the visual attention that is diverted to each block image is estimated through equilibrium distribution on of this chain.

Adversarial Domain Adaptation with Domain MixupMinghao Xu, Jian Zhang, Bingbing Ni et al.
Recent works on domain adaptation reveal the effectiveness of adversarial learning on filling the discrepancy between source and target domains. However, two common limitations exist in current adversarial-learning-based methods. First, samples from two domains alone are not sufficient to ensure domain-invariance at most part of latent space. Second, the domain discriminator involved in these methods can only judge real or fake with the guidance of hard label, while it is more reasonable to use soft scores to evaluate the generated images or features, i.e., to fully utilize the inter-domain information. In this paper, we present adversarial domain adaptation with domain mixup (DM-ADA), which guarantees domain-invariance in a more continuous latent space and guides the domain discriminator in judging samples' difference relative to source and target domains. Domain mixup is jointly conducted on pixel and feature level to improve the robustness of models. Extensive experiments prove that the proposed approach can achieve superior performance on tasks with various degrees of domain shift and data complexity.

Towards Locally Consistent Object Counting with Constrained Multi-stage Convolutional Neural NetworksMuming Zhao, Jian Zhang, Chongyang Zhang et al.
High-density object counting in surveillance scenes is challenging mainly due to the drastic variation of object scales. The prevalence of deep learning has largely boosted the object counting accuracy on several benchmark datasets. However, does the global counts really count? Armed with this question we dive into the predicted density map whose summation over the whole regions reports the global counts for more in-depth analysis. We observe that the object density map generated by most existing methods usually lacks of local consistency, i.e., counting errors in local regions exist unexpectedly even though the global count seems to well match with the ground-truth. Towards this problem, in this paper we propose a constrained multi-stage Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to jointly pursue locally consistent density map from two aspects. Different from most existing methods that mainly rely on the multi-column architectures of plain CNNs, we exploit a stacking formulation of plain CNNs. Benefited from the internal multi-stage learning process, the feature map could be repeatedly refined, allowing the density map to approach the ground-truth density distribution. For further refinement of the density map, we also propose a grid loss function. With finer local-region-based supervisions, the underlying model is constrained to generate locally consistent density values to minimize the training errors considering both the global and local counts accuracy. Experiments on two widely-tested object counting benchmarks with overall significant results compared with state-of-the-art methods demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

Online Multi-Object Tracking with Dual Matching Attention NetworksJi Zhu, Hua Yang, Nian Liu et al.
In this paper, we propose an online Multi-Object Tracking (MOT) approach which integrates the merits of single object tracking and data association methods in a unified framework to handle noisy detections and frequent interactions between targets. Specifically, for applying single object tracking in MOT, we introduce a cost-sensitive tracking loss based on the state-of-the-art visual tracker, which encourages the model to focus on hard negative distractors during online learning. For data association, we propose Dual Matching Attention Networks (DMAN) with both spatial and temporal attention mechanisms. The spatial attention module generates dual attention maps which enable the network to focus on the matching patterns of the input image pair, while the temporal attention module adaptively allocates different levels of attention to different samples in the tracklet to suppress noisy observations. Experimental results on the MOT benchmark datasets show that the proposed algorithm performs favorably against both online and offline trackers in terms of identity-preserving metrics.

Immersive media streaming, especially virtual reality (VR)/360-degree video streaming which is very bandwidth demanding, has become more and more popular due to the rapid growth of the multimedia and networking deployments. To better explore the usage of resource and achieve better quality of experience (QoE) perceived by users, this paper develops an application-layer scheme to jointly exploit the available bandwidth from the LTE and Wi-Fi networks in 360-degree video streaming. This newly proposed scheme and the corresponding solution algorithms utilize the saliency of video, prediction of users' view and the status information of users to obtain an optimal association of the users with different Wi-Fi access points (APs) for maximizing the system's utility. Besides, a novel buffer strategy is proposed to mitigate the influence of short-time prediction problem for transmitting 360-degree videos in time-varying networks. The promising performance and low complexity of the proposed scheme and algorithms are validated in simulations with various 360-degree videos.

Viewport Adaptation-Based Immersive Video Streaming: Perceptual Modeling and ApplicationsShaowei Xie, Qiu Shen, Yiling Xu et al.
Immersive video offers the freedom to navigate inside virtualized environment. Instead of streaming the bulky immersive videos entirely, a viewport (also referred to as field of view, FoV) adaptive streaming is preferred. We often stream the high-quality content within current viewport, while reducing the quality of representation elsewhere to save the network bandwidth consumption. Consider that we could refine the quality when focusing on a new FoV, in this paper, we model the perceptual impact of the quality variations (through adapting the quantization stepsize and spatial resolution) with respect to the refinement duration, and yield a product of two closed-form exponential functions that well explain the joint quantization and resolution induced quality impact. Analytical model is cross-validated using another set of data, where both Pearson and Spearman's rank correlation coefficients are close to 0.98. Our work is devised to optimize the adaptive FoV streaming of the immersive video under limited network resource. Numerical results show that our proposed model significantly improves the quality of experience of users, with about 9.36\% BD-Rate (Bjontegaard Delta Rate) improvement on average as compared to other representative methods, particularly under the limited bandwidth.

Performance Guaranteed Network Acceleration via High-Order Residual QuantizationZefan Li, Bingbing Ni, Wenjun Zhang et al.
Input binarization has shown to be an effective way for network acceleration. However, previous binarization scheme could be regarded as simple pixel-wise thresholding operations (i.e., order-one approximation) and suffers a big accuracy loss. In this paper, we propose a highorder binarization scheme, which achieves more accurate approximation while still possesses the advantage of binary operation. In particular, the proposed scheme recursively performs residual quantization and yields a series of binary input images with decreasing magnitude scales. Accordingly, we propose high-order binary filtering and gradient propagation operations for both forward and backward computations. Theoretical analysis shows approximation error guarantee property of proposed method. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme yields great recognition accuracy while being accelerated.

Deep Collaborative Learning for Visual RecognitionYan Wang, Lingxi Xie, Ya Zhang et al.
Deep neural networks are playing an important role in state-of-the-art visual recognition. To represent high-level visual concepts, modern networks are equipped with large convolutional layers, which use a large number of filters and contribute significantly to model complexity. For example, more than half of the weights of AlexNet are stored in the first fully-connected layer (4,096 filters). We formulate the function of a convolutional layer as learning a large visual vocabulary, and propose an alternative way, namely Deep Collaborative Learning (DCL), to reduce the computational complexity. We replace a convolutional layer with a two-stage DCL module, in which we first construct a couple of smaller convolutional layers individually, and then fuse them at each spatial position to consider feature co-occurrence. In mathematics, DCL can be explained as an efficient way of learning compositional visual concepts, in which the vocabulary size increases exponentially while the model complexity only increases linearly. We evaluate DCL on a wide range of visual recognition tasks, including a series of multi-digit number classification datasets, and some generic image classification datasets such as SVHN, CIFAR and ILSVRC2012. We apply DCL to several state-of-the-art network structures, improving the recognition accuracy meanwhile reducing the number of parameters (16.82% fewer in AlexNet).

Facial Expression Cloning with Elastic and Muscle ModelsYihao Zhang, Weiyao Lin, Bing Zhou et al.
Expression cloning plays an important role in facial expression synthesis. In this paper, a novel algorithm is proposed for facial expression cloning. The proposed algorithm first introduces a new elastic model to balance the global and local warping effects, such that the impacts from facial feature diversity among people can be minimized, and thus more effective geometric warping results can be achieved. Furthermore, a muscle-distribution-based (MD) model is proposed, which utilizes the muscle distribution of the human face and results in more accurate facial illumination details. In addition, we also propose a new distance-based metric to automatically select the optimal parameters such that the global and local warping effects in the elastic model can be suitably balanced. Experimental results show that our proposed algorithm outperforms the existing methods.
