HeLoM: Hierarchical Learning for Whole-Body Loco-Manipulation by a Hexapod Robot

Xinrong Yang, Peizhuo Li, Hongyi Li et al.

In nature, animals often need to move/manipulate objects comparable in weight/size to their own bodies. Compared to grasping and carrying, pushing provides a more straightforward and efficient non-prehensile manipulation strategy, avoiding complex grasp design while leveraging direct contact to regulate an object's pose during interaction. Achieving effective pushing, however, requires both sufficient manipulation capability and stable whole-body coordination, which is particularly challenging when dealing with heavy or irregular objects. To address these challenges, we propose HeLoM, a learning-based hierarchical whole-body manipulation framework for hexapod robots that exploits coordinated multi-limb control and is applicable to multi-legged robotic systems. Inspired by the cooperative strategies of multi-legged insects, our framework leverages multiple contact points and high degrees of freedom to enable efficient and dynamic whole-body coordination during object interaction. HeLoM's high-level planner plans pushing behaviors, while its low-level controller maintains locomotion stability and generates dynamically consistent joint actions. This design enables the robot to maintain balance while executing continuous and controllable pushing behaviors through coordinated foreleg interaction and supportive hind-leg propulsion. We validate the effectiveness of HeLoM through both simulation and real-world experiments. Results show that our framework can stably push objects of varying sizes and unknown physical properties to designated goal poses in the real world.

Hgformer: Hyperbolic Graph Transformer for Recommendation

Xin Yang, Xingrun Li, Heng Chang et al.

The cold start problem is a challenging problem faced by most modern recommender systems. By leveraging knowledge from other domains, cross-domain recommendation can be an effective method to alleviate the cold start problem. However, the modelling distortion for long-tail data, which is widely present in recommender systems, is often overlooked in cross-domain recommendation. In this research, we propose a hyperbolic manifold based cross-domain collaborative filtering model using BiTGCF as the base model. We introduce the hyperbolic manifold and construct new propagation layer and transfer layer to address these challenges. The significant performance improvements across various datasets compared to the baseline models demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed model.

NaTex: Seamless Texture Generation as Latent Color Diffusion

Zeqiang Lai, Yunfei Zhao, Zibo Zhao et al.

We present NaTex, a native texture generation framework that predicts texture color directly in 3D space. In contrast to previous approaches that rely on baking 2D multi-view images synthesized by geometry-conditioned Multi-View Diffusion models (MVDs), NaTex avoids several inherent limitations of the MVD pipeline. These include difficulties in handling occluded regions that require inpainting, achieving precise mesh-texture alignment along boundaries, and maintaining cross-view consistency and coherence in both content and color intensity. NaTex features a novel paradigm that addresses the aforementioned issues by viewing texture as a dense color point cloud. Driven by this idea, we propose latent color diffusion, which comprises a geometry-awared color point cloud VAE and a multi-control diffusion transformer (DiT), entirely trained from scratch using 3D data, for texture reconstruction and generation. To enable precise alignment, we introduce native geometry control that conditions the DiT on direct 3D spatial information via positional embeddings and geometry latents. We co-design the VAE-DiT architecture, where the geometry latents are extracted via a dedicated geometry branch tightly coupled with the color VAE, providing fine-grained surface guidance that maintains strong correspondence with the texture. With these designs, NaTex demonstrates strong performance, significantly outperforming previous methods in texture coherence and alignment. Moreover, NaTex also exhibits strong generalization capabilities, either training-free or with simple tuning, for various downstream applications, e.g., material generation, texture refinement, and part segmentation and texturing.

TrajBooster: Boosting Humanoid Whole-Body Manipulation via Trajectory-Centric Learning

Jiacheng Liu, Pengxiang Ding, Qihang Zhou et al.

Recent Vision-Language-Action models show potential to generalize across embodiments but struggle to quickly align with a new robot's action space when high-quality demonstrations are scarce, especially for bipedal humanoids. We present TrajBooster, a cross-embodiment framework that leverages abundant wheeled-humanoid data to boost bipedal VLA. Our key idea is to use end-effector trajectories as a morphology-agnostic interface. TrajBooster (i) extracts 6D dual-arm end-effector trajectories from real-world wheeled humanoids, (ii) retargets them in simulation to Unitree G1 with a whole-body controller trained via a heuristic-enhanced harmonized online DAgger to lift low-dimensional trajectory references into feasible high-dimensional whole-body actions, and (iii) forms heterogeneous triplets that couple source vision/language with target humanoid-compatible actions to post-pre-train a VLA, followed by only 10 minutes of teleoperation data collection on the target humanoid domain. Deployed on Unitree G1, our policy achieves beyond-tabletop household tasks, enabling squatting, cross-height manipulation, and coordinated whole-body motion with markedly improved robustness and generalization. Results show that TrajBooster allows existing wheeled-humanoid data to efficiently strengthen bipedal humanoid VLA performance, reducing reliance on costly same-embodiment data while enhancing action space understanding and zero-shot skill transfer capabilities. Apprenticeship-Inspired Elegance: Synergistic Knowledge Distillation Empowers Spiking Neural Networks for Efficient Single-Eye Emotion Recognition

Yang Wang, Haiyang Mei, Qirui Bao et al.

We introduce a novel multimodality synergistic knowledge distillation scheme tailored for efficient single-eye motion recognition tasks. This method allows a lightweight, unimodal student spiking neural network (SNN) to extract rich knowledge from an event-frame multimodal teacher network. The core strength of this approach is its ability to utilize the ample, coarser temporal cues found in conventional frames for effective emotion recognition. Consequently, our method adeptly interprets both temporal and spatial information from the conventional frame domain, eliminating the need for specialized sensing devices, e.g., event-based camera. The effectiveness of our approach is thoroughly demonstrated using both existing and our compiled single-eye emotion recognition datasets, achieving unparalleled performance in accuracy and efficiency over existing state-of-the-art methods.

Searching Collaborative Agents for Multi-plane Localization in 3D Ultrasound

Xin Yang, Yuhao Huang, Ruobing Huang et al.

3D ultrasound (US) has become prevalent due to its rich spatial and diagnostic information not contained in 2D US. Moreover, 3D US can contain multiple standard planes (SPs) in one shot. Thus, automatically localizing SPs in 3D US has the potential to improve user-independence and scanning-efficiency. However, manual SP localization in 3D US is challenging because of the low image quality, huge search space and large anatomical variability. In this work, we propose a novel multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) framework to simultaneously localize multiple SPs in 3D US. Our contribution is four-fold. First, our proposed method is general and it can accurately localize multiple SPs in different challenging US datasets. Second, we equip the MARL system with a recurrent neural network (RNN) based collaborative module, which can strengthen the communication among agents and learn the spatial relationship among planes effectively. Third, we explore to adopt the neural architecture search (NAS) to automatically design the network architecture of both the agents and the collaborative module. Last, we believe we are the first to realize automatic SP localization in pelvic US volumes, and note that our approach can handle both normal and abnormal uterus cases. Extensively validated on two challenging datasets of the uterus and fetal brain, our proposed method achieves the average localization accuracy of 7.03 degrees/1.59mm and 9.75 degrees/1.19mm. Experimental results show that our light-weight MARL model has higher accuracy than state-of-the-art methods.
