Machine Unlearning Methodology base on Stochastic Teacher NetworkXulong Zhang, Jianzong Wang, Ning Cheng et al.
The rise of the phenomenon of the "right to be forgotten" has prompted research on machine unlearning, which grants data owners the right to actively withdraw data that has been used for model training, and requires the elimination of the contribution of that data to the model. A simple method to achieve this is to use the remaining data to retrain the model, but this is not acceptable for other data owners who continue to participate in training. Existing machine unlearning methods have been found to be ineffective in quickly removing knowledge from deep learning models. This paper proposes using a stochastic network as a teacher to expedite the mitigation of the influence caused by forgotten data on the model. We performed experiments on three datasets, and the findings demonstrate that our approach can efficiently mitigate the influence of target data on the model within a single epoch. This allows for one-time erasure and reconstruction of the model, and the reconstruction model achieves the same performance as the retrained model.
SDM-Car: A Dataset for Small and Dim Moving Vehicles Detection in Satellite VideosZhen Zhang, Tao Peng, Liang Liao et al.
Vehicle detection and tracking in satellite video is essential in remote sensing (RS) applications. However, upon the statistical analysis of existing datasets, we find that the dim vehicles with low radiation intensity and limited contrast against the background are rarely annotated, which leads to the poor effect of existing approaches in detecting moving vehicles under low radiation conditions. In this paper, we address the challenge by building a \textbf{S}mall and \textbf{D}im \textbf{M}oving Cars (SDM-Car) dataset with a multitude of annotations for dim vehicles in satellite videos, which is collected by the Luojia 3-01 satellite and comprises 99 high-quality videos. Furthermore, we propose a method based on image enhancement and attention mechanisms to improve the detection accuracy of dim vehicles, serving as a benchmark for evaluating the dataset. Finally, we assess the performance of several representative methods on SDM-Car and present insightful findings. The dataset is openly available at https://github.com/TanedaM/SDM-Car.

Input-Aware Sparse Attention for Real-Time Co-Speech Video GenerationBeijia Lu, Ziyi Chen, Jing Xiao et al.
Diffusion models can synthesize realistic co-speech video from audio for various applications, such as video creation and virtual agents. However, existing diffusion-based methods are slow due to numerous denoising steps and costly attention mechanisms, preventing real-time deployment. In this work, we distill a many-step diffusion video model into a few-step student model. Unfortunately, directly applying recent diffusion distillation methods degrades video quality and falls short of real-time performance. To address these issues, our new video distillation method leverages input human pose conditioning for both attention and loss functions. We first propose using accurate correspondence between input human pose keypoints to guide attention to relevant regions, such as the speaker's face, hands, and upper body. This input-aware sparse attention reduces redundant computations and strengthens temporal correspondences of body parts, improving inference efficiency and motion coherence. To further enhance visual quality, we introduce an input-aware distillation loss that improves lip synchronization and hand motion realism. By integrating our input-aware sparse attention and distillation loss, our method achieves real-time performance with improved visual quality compared to recent audio-driven and input-driven methods. We also conduct extensive experiments showing the effectiveness of our algorithmic design choices.
Variational Information Bottleneck for Effective Low-resource Audio ClassificationShijing Si, Jianzong Wang, Huiming Sun et al.
Large-scale deep neural networks (DNNs) such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have achieved impressive performance in audio classification for their powerful capacity and strong generalization ability. However, when training a DNN model on low-resource tasks, it is usually prone to overfitting the small data and learning too much redundant information. To address this issue, we propose to use variational information bottleneck (VIB) to mitigate overfitting and suppress irrelevant information. In this work, we conduct experiments ona 4-layer CNN. However, the VIB framework is ready-to-use and could be easily utilized with many other state-of-the-art network architectures. Evaluation on a few audio datasets shows that our approach significantly outperforms baseline methods, yielding more than 5.0% improvement in terms of classification accuracy in some low-source settings.

Image Inpainting Guided by Coherence Priors of Semantics and TexturesLiang Liao, Jing Xiao, Zheng Wang et al.
Existing inpainting methods have achieved promising performance in recovering defected images of specific scenes. However, filling holes involving multiple semantic categories remains challenging due to the obscure semantic boundaries and the mixture of different semantic textures. In this paper, we introduce coherence priors between the semantics and textures which make it possible to concentrate on completing separate textures in a semantic-wise manner. Specifically, we adopt a multi-scale joint optimization framework to first model the coherence priors and then accordingly interleavingly optimize image inpainting and semantic segmentation in a coarse-to-fine manner. A Semantic-Wise Attention Propagation (SWAP) module is devised to refine completed image textures across scales by exploring non-local semantic coherence, which effectively mitigates mix-up of textures. We also propose two coherence losses to constrain the consistency between the semantics and the inpainted image in terms of the overall structure and detailed textures. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our proposed method for challenging cases with complex holes.

Residual Recurrent CRNN for End-to-End Optical Music Recognition on Monophonic ScoresAozhi Liu, Lipei Zhang, Yaqi Mei et al.
One of the challenges of the Optical Music Recognition task is to transcript the symbols of the camera-captured images into digital music notations. Previous end-to-end model which was developed as a Convolutional Recurrent Neural Network does not explore sufficient contextual information from full scales and there is still a large room for improvement. We propose an innovative framework that combines a block of Residual Recurrent Convolutional Neural Network with a recurrent Encoder-Decoder network to map a sequence of monophonic music symbols corresponding to the notations present in the image. The Residual Recurrent Convolutional block can improve the ability of the model to enrich the context information. The experiment results are benchmarked against a publicly available dataset called CAMERA-PRIMUS, which demonstrates that our approach surpass the state-of-the-art end-to-end method using Convolutional Recurrent Neural Network.

Guidance and Evaluation: Semantic-Aware Image Inpainting for Mixed ScenesLiang Liao, Jing Xiao, Zheng Wang et al.
Completing a corrupted image with correct structures and reasonable textures for a mixed scene remains an elusive challenge. Since the missing hole in a mixed scene of a corrupted image often contains various semantic information, conventional two-stage approaches utilizing structural information often lead to the problem of unreliable structural prediction and ambiguous image texture generation. In this paper, we propose a Semantic Guidance and Evaluation Network (SGE-Net) to iteratively update the structural priors and the inpainted image in an interplay framework of semantics extraction and image inpainting. It utilizes semantic segmentation map as guidance in each scale of inpainting, under which location-dependent inferences are re-evaluated, and, accordingly, poorly-inferred regions are refined in subsequent scales. Extensive experiments on real-world images of mixed scenes demonstrated the superiority of our proposed method over state-of-the-art approaches, in terms of clear boundaries and photo-realistic textures.

Bone Suppression on Chest Radiographs With Adversarial LearningJia Liang, Yuxing Tang, Youbao Tang et al.
Dual-energy (DE) chest radiography provides the capability of selectively imaging two clinically relevant materials, namely soft tissues, and osseous structures, to better characterize a wide variety of thoracic pathology and potentially improve diagnosis in posteroanterior (PA) chest radiographs. However, DE imaging requires specialized hardware and a higher radiation dose than conventional radiography, and motion artifacts sometimes happen due to involuntary patient motion. In this work, we learn the mapping between conventional radiographs and bone suppressed radiographs. Specifically, we propose to utilize two variations of generative adversarial networks (GANs) for image-to-image translation between conventional and bone suppressed radiographs obtained by DE imaging technique. We compare the effectiveness of training with patient-wisely paired and unpaired radiographs. Experiments show both training strategies yield "radio-realistic'' radiographs with suppressed bony structures and few motion artifacts on a hold-out test set. While training with paired images yields slightly better performance than that of unpaired images when measuring with two objective image quality metrics, namely Structural Similarity Index (SSIM) and Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), training with unpaired images demonstrates better generalization ability on unseen anteroposterior (AP) radiographs than paired training.

Domain Fingerprints for No-reference Image Quality AssessmentWeihao Xia, Yujiu Yang, Jing-Hao Xue et al.
Human fingerprints are detailed and nearly unique markers of human identity. Such a unique and stable fingerprint is also left on each acquired image. It can reveal how an image was degraded during the image acquisition procedure and thus is closely related to the quality of an image. In this work, we propose a new no-reference image quality assessment (NR-IQA) approach called domain-aware IQA (DA-IQA), which for the first time introduces the concept of domain fingerprint to the NR-IQA field. The domain fingerprint of an image is learned from image collections of different degradations and then used as the unique characteristics to identify the degradation sources and assess the quality of the image. To this end, we design a new domain-aware architecture, which enables simultaneous determination of both the distortion sources and the quality of an image. With the distortion in an image better characterized, the image quality can be more accurately assessed, as verified by extensive experiments, which show that the proposed DA-IQA performs better than almost all the compared state-of-the-art NR-IQA methods.

EasiCSDeep: A deep learning model for Cervical Spondylosis Identification using surface electromyography signalNana Wang, Li Cui, Xi Huang et al.
Cervical spondylosis (CS) is a common chronic disease that affects up to two-thirds of the population and poses a serious burden on individuals and society. The early identification has significant value in improving cure rate and reducing costs. However, the pathology is complex, and the mild symptoms increase the difficulty of the diagnosis, especially in the early stage. Besides, the time-consuming and costliness of hospital medical service reduces the attention to the CS identification. Thus, a convenient, low-cost intelligent CS identification method is imperious demanded. In this paper, we present an intelligent method based on the deep learning to identify CS, using the surface electromyography (sEMG) signal. Faced with the complex, high dimensionality and weak usability of the sEMG signal, we proposed and developed a multi-channel EasiCSDeep algorithm based on the convolutional neural network, which consists of the feature extraction, spatial relationship representation and classification algorithm. To the best of our knowledge, this EasiCSDeep is the first effort to employ the deep learning and the sEMG data to identify CS. Compared with previous state-of-the-art algorithm, our algorithm achieves a significant improvement.
