Social planning for social HRI
This work tackles the problem of improving human-robot interaction for researchers and developers by integrating social context into planning, though it appears incremental as it builds on recent work without introducing new methods or data.
The paper addresses the challenge of enabling computational agents to be 'social' by recognizing others' behaviors and making appropriate decisions in social contexts, focusing on social planning as a key approach.
Making a computational agent 'social' has implications for how it perceives itself and the environment in which it is situated, including the ability to recognise the behaviours of others. We point to recent work on social planning, i.e. planning in settings where the social context is relevant in the assessment of the beliefs and capabilities of others, and in making appropriate choices of what to do next.
